Below are common symptoms of a sore throat:

  • Scratchy, dry, and swollen throat

  • Pain when swallowing, talking, or breathing

In line with this, the following are safe pain relief treatments for sore throats that you can easily do at home:

  • Salt in warm water.

As soon as you feel symptoms of sore throat, gargle a glass of warm water with salt. Do this several times a day to lessen the extent of infection.

  • Warm liquids.

If you have a sore throat, avoid cold drinks. Instead opt for warm drinks like tea. Warm liquid can soothe your scratchy throat better than cold drinks. Also, better avoid acidic drinks, for these can lead to further irritation.

  • Lozenges or dry candies.

Suck on lozenges for sore throat every two to three hours, depending on what the    doctor recommends. These can soothe the pain brought about by sore throat.

  • Keep warm.

During the cold season, make it a point to wrap your neck with a comfy scarf to keep warm. This will also help comfort your sore throat.

  • Avoiding smoke and other air pollutants.

Smoke and other air pollutants can further irritate a sore throat. Hence, better stop smoking cigarettes and tobaccos for a while when you still have a sore throat to avoid complications.

  • Lemon and honey.

Stir lemon and honey into a glass of hot water. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before you start drinking it. While the lemon helps cut mucus, the honey soothes the pain in your throat.
