The Problem With Sleep Aides & How to Get a Good Night's Sleep the Natural Way

If you are an insomniac and you are not getting the proper rest that you need night after night, you may have thought of taking sleep assistance products, or you are already taking sleep aides. I would like to explain to you why I think this is a bad idea, and discuss some options that will provide a natural cure for your insomnia.

Sleep aides will put you to sleep, at least when you first start taking them. But there are a number of side effects. Sleeping pills cut down on the amount of brain cell activity. What does this do? It affects your short term memory. Sleeping pills also are highly addictive, and it is easy to build a tolerance to sleep aides. So, if you are taking them each night for several weeks, you may feel the need to take even more pills, just to get to sleep. Sleep assistance products can lead to a number of physical problems, the most serious being nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness and feeling light headed, and even loss of libido. There are a whole other list of physical problems that is basically too long to list here.

Sleep assistance have also contributed to some people sleepwalking and even taking part in activities like driving their car! (And yes, you can get cited for driving under the influence if this happens). The final problem with sleep aides is that they do not cure insomnia. If and when you decided to stop using sleep medication, your insomnia is bound to return.
