The Three Types of Female Alopecia

Alopecia is the medical terminology used to describe hair loss. It is an especially disturbing condition in women, since it is less publicized and socially accepted than male alopecia. There are three major types of female alopecia: androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata and Telogen Effluvium.

The most common type of female alopecia is androgenetic alopecia, which is when women have thinning or diffuse hair loss at the top of the head while keeping their front bangs. What happens in this particular type of female alopecia is that hair follicles become sensitive to hormones and there before the follicles produce less hair. The growing cycle of the hair is shortened and, because of this, the production of hair moves slower (and can, at some point, stop in the area).

Causes for androgenetic alopecia are commonly hormonal. While it is not a single cause, stress can aggravate this type of female alopecia. Androgenetic alopecia by definition means related to hormones and genetics, since there seems to be some pattern of heredity (although this is widely disputed). The most common treatments are the popular Rogaine, Tricomin Therapy Spray and Nizoral. Also, antiandrogens are popular among those concretely diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia rather than any other kind of female alopecia. These drugs reverse the actions of the hormones in the body and can help stop hair loss.

When alopecia in women presents with patchy hair loss it is called alopecia areata. Aside from the hairless patches, this type also has "exclamation point hairs" that narrow closer to the scalp, hence the name. This type of hair loss can happen quickly or slowly. Alopecia areata happens due to inflammation of the hair follicles which then lose their supply of nutrients and therefore go into the shedding stage prematurely.

Causes of alopecia areata are mostly unknown, but it is thought generally that this female alopecia subtype is caused by stress, allergies, infection, genetics, poisoning by environmental exposure to toxins or trauma. The treatment for mild cases includes corticosteroid injections and treatment for intensive cases including topical contact sensitization therapy (chemical creams that may reverse the process). There is also an ointment called Anthralin. It is important to mention that it is rare for this specific type of female alopecia to be reversed.

The third and most typically harmless variation of female alopecia is telogen effluvium which is rapid, but temporary hair loss. It can get dangerous, however, when telogen effluvium triggers another subtype that lay dormant in the body and ends up being a permanent condition. With telogen effluvium, instead of the usual loss of 100 hairs per day, it can go up to 400 lost daily. Apart from hair loss, telogen effluvium can also be accompanied by pain in the scalp similar to the pain of hair being ripped out (this is called trichodynia).

Telogen effluvium usually happens because of stress, illness, recent childbirth or crash dieting. The causes for this alopecia in women can be divided into physiologic, injury / stress and drugs. Physiologic causes include postpartum hair loss, which is a natural condition. Typical stress factors include eating disorders, nutrient deficiencies, recent surgery or illness, infection or just plain stress. Drugs that are commonly associated with temporary female alopecia are anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, heavy metals, birth control pills, thyroid medications and antikeratinazing agents. Treatment of usually involves removing the underlying cause for the temporary hair loss which should solve the problem.

It is important to understand that female alopecia is a versatile condition with many types with different symptoms and causes for each one. Going to a doctor for a solid diagnosis is advisable and female alopecia is usually treatable with the affected female being able to lead on a healthy and normal life.

Diabetic Retinopathy – A Leading Cause of Blindness Worldwide

Diabetic retinopathy is the disease that diabetes (more commonly known as diabetes mellitus) causes in the eye. Symptoms range from mild blurriness to complete blindness. The disease is not curable, but severe vision loss can usually be preceded with early diagnosis and treatment.

The retina is the light sensitive tissue that lines the inside of the eye. It captures light and transmits images to our brain, thus creating "vision." The retina can be damaged by a variety of diseases, for instance, macular degeneration, retinal detachments and diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy affects the retina is a couple of ways. Most commonly, retina blood vessels become incompetent and leak fluid and blood into the surrounding tissue. If the fluid accumulates in the macula, causing macular edema, vision becomes blurred. Macular edema does not cause blindness.

Fewer patients develop the more aggressive and severe form of retinopathy, namely, proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The hallmark of this stage of the disease is the presence of neovascularization. Abnormal blood vessels grow on the surface of the eye and other internal eye structures. This abnormal tissue can lead to diabetic retinal detachments, causing blindness. A very rare, painful, type of glaucoma may develop as well.

Retinal treatment for macular edema traditionally involves the use of laser treatment. Intravitalreal steroids and anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), delivered via intraocular injection, are becoming more of the mainstay of treatment.

Treatment of proliferative retinopathy starts with pan-retinal photocoagulation, another type of laser treatment. Proliferative diabetics can also develop retinal detachments or bleeding in the vitreous. In these cases, vitrectomy eye surgery may be helpful.

Most people believe, incorrectly, that good sugar control prevails the eye disease from developing. The largest risk factor to developing the disease is the number of years a patient has been diabetic. Period.

Diabetic retinopathy can be a devastating disease. Early detection and treatment is essential to maintaining excellent useful vision. All patients with diabetes, regardless of vision, should have a dilated eye exam at least annually. Waiting until there is noticeable vision loss may be too late.

Ways to Make Your Wounds Heal Faster

You might already know how to take care of your wounds for them to heal. But, there are methods that you can use in order to hasten the healing process. Once your wounds are healed, it may be easier for you to resume your activities of daily living. You will not have to worry about tending to your wounds.

Once you have been cut or injured, you have to decide whether or not you are going to seek medical treatment. Minor wounds can be taken care of with the first aid kit that you have at home. These wounds are not life threatening. There might be no need for you to visit a doctor or a clinic at any given time. Major wounds, on the other hand, may put your life at risk. These wounds can make you lose a lot of blood. If you suffer a burn injury, you may lose lots of fluids from your body at a very fast rate. These wounds will require you to go and see a doctor as soon as possible.

After emergency treatment measures have been given and you are now out of immediate danger, the next focus will be on how to heal your injuries. Doctors and medical professionals will first try to avoid more complications like a wound infection. You may be prescribed with the necessary antibiotics to avoid such things from happening.

On your own end, you need to take care of your wounds. Dressings keep your wounds from getting in contact with contaminants. But, remember to regularly change your wound dressings. Once they are soaked, you need to change to new ones as soon as possible. And if you no longer notice a great amount of drain from your wounds, you still have to regularly change your wound dressings. Some amount of dust and other debris might be present. Fresh dressing materials will make sure that your wounds will be kept away from infection.

Wounds that have dried can be freed from the dressing materials. Once the wounds are closed and dry, there will be no danger in letting them out in the open. This can even hasten the healing process as oxygen in the air can get to your wounds at a much better rate. Sometimes, using more aggressive methods to introduce oxygen into the body is something that you can do. There are oxygen therapies that you can undergo.

Disinfect your wounds using the right products. Soap and water can be effective for some wounds. However, for those who suffered huge and open wounds, this method might not be ideal. Instead, a wound disinfectant such as an iodine solution or a topical antibacterial agent is applied to the affected part.

As much as possible, do not touch your wounds. At a late healing phase, most wounds would itch a lot. Resist the urge to touch the affected part. Your hands can carry potentially dangerous organisms. Sometimes, scabs may be accidentally removed and will only cause you to suffer permanent scars once the wounds are completely healed.

Aquatic Physical Therapy As an Add-On to Stroke Recovery

Water is life and can restore life. It has many therapeutic properties, which includes reviving the use of bodily functions lost due to a stroke. Commonly known as hydrotherapy, water has been used as far back as ancient Egyptian civilization to relieve pain and treat diseases by improving circulation.

Water therapy is known to treat stress, rheumatism, arthritis, burns, hemorrhoids, spasticity, musculoskeletal disorders, and stroke patients with paralysis. Rehabilitation of stroke patients through hydrotherapy will also help improve not only their tissue’s health but also their joint health and movement, increase strength in weakened muscles, stretch spastic muscles, and uplift overall quality of life.

It is so effective that many hospitals and rehabilitation facilities have acquired machines for physical therapy that apply the use of water therapy.

Nowadays, you can go to spas that offer different forms of hydrotherapy to clients. Spas have specially-designed showers that implore massage techniques that focus on different muscle parts through the use of pressurized hot or cold water. There are some spas that have aromatherapy pools just like the ones used by the royalty of ancient times where special oils like lavender are added to aid in the treatment.

If you love swimming or simply being in the water, a trip to a hydrotherapy spa in your area would really be a fun way for you to spend time while you relieve yourself from pain and recover from your disability due to stroke. It would also be a great time to bond with your family and relax from all the stress you’ve been through.

Now, if you’re looking for a more structured approach that you can use as part of your rehabilitation program, there are facilities that offer aquatic exercises specially meant for stroke patients. Aquatic exercise is another form of water therapy used for treatment of stroke patients and injured athletes, among others.

Aquatic exercises are actually a lot easier for stroke patients to do because the water’s buoyancy allows them to move freely. Unlike exercising on land, activities like walking, balancing, stretching, aerobics, coordination, and strengthening can be done by stroke patients without fear and difficulty as the water supports them.

The book “Aquatic Exercise for Rehabilitation & Training” by Lori Brody and Paula Geigle, which also comes in DVD and VCD, is a great reference to aquatic exercises. It prescribes the right aquatic exercise programs stroke patients can use for their recovery. The book also thoroughly explains everything stroke patients and their therapists need to efficiently carry out a rehabilitation program that meets the stroke patient’s abilities and limitations.

Hydrotherapy and aquatic physical exercises are great add ons to stroke treatment. It is an enjoyable way to recover from stroke, regain confidence, cultivate social skills, and invigorate family ties.

Basic Postoperative Wound Care

You've just come from the dermatologist's office where you had a skin biopsy to remove a suspicious mole and check it for cancer. How should you care for the biopsy site to have an optimal result and the smallest possible?

First, start taking some extra vitamin C. Surgeons have known for many years that vitamin C is a co-factor in collagen synthesis, helping to make the skin heal more quickly with a smaller scar. This should be continued for at least 3 months for best results.

Next, avoid removing the bandage for the first 24 hours as the area is more likely to bleed if it is disturbed. After the first day, you can usually remove the Band-Aid and shower, allowing the water to gently cleanse the area. Wash cloths, soaps or detergents should not be used on the biopsy site.

Make sure to follow all instructions you have been given and return at the appointed time to have your sutures removed. Removing sutures before the site is cured can result in opening of the skin and a large scar. Leaving sutures in too long can leave unsightly "railroad tracks" at the biopsy site.

Usually a topical antibiotic cream and a Band-Aid are all that are needed for small biopsies. Sometimes an allergic reaction can occur either from the Band-Aid adhesive or the antiseptic. If the skin become red and itches, you might try doing without the Band-Aid or the cream for a day to give the surrounding skin a rest ..

If the site itches, avoid scratching as this can dislodge the sutures and cause the scar to widen. If you experience pain at the site after the first day, especially if you notice redness or drain from the site, you should call your doctor to make sure it's not infected. Infection can delay healing and result in a less than optimal result.

Healing occurs more quickly after biopsies on the face while those on the trunk, arms or legs can take up to three weeks or longer to heal. During the healing phase, excessive use of that part of the body, can cause breakage of the sutures with widening of the scar. It's best to be patient and not rush back into an exercise program while your biopsy site is healing.

Application of topical vitamin C or vitamin E serums or creams can speed wound healing and keep the site hydrated and less dry. Newer remedies for minimizing scarring such as silicone sheets placed over the healing wound are showing promise, however the cost may be quite high. These are especially effective in persons predisposed to forming hypertrophic scars or keloids.

Complete healing may take several months while the redness of the site fades. This is absolutely normal. Best results are seen after 3-6 months. If you have questions be sure to call your physician.

How to Cure Stammering – What is the Root Cause?

Learning how to cure stammering was something that was top of my priority list not long ago. It was something I had suffered with since early childhood but I always assumed I would grow out of it; however as an adult I continued to suffer badly with speech. Read on to learn what I did to speak fluently and with confidence for the first time in my life and how you can do it too.

The main problem when learning how to cure stammering was actually coming to terms that there was no cure. After going back and forth to my doctor who kept making me do these silly speaking exercises that never really helped, I began to think that maybe I would be stuck with this condition for the rest of my life.

Growing up as a teenager with a stutter is probably one of the worst things a guy can go through, especially because other kids can be so cruel. I suffered badly with a confidence problem because of my stutter and this made it much harder to meet new people and make new friends. My social life was pretty poor, not to mention my lack of any type of success with girls! I mean what girl want’s to be with a shy, low confident stuttering guy anyway?

I knew that this was something I wanted to get rid of completely, not just learn to control, I wanted total fluency. I remember my doctor telling me to speak slower, so I did for a while. OK it may have helped a little bit but it made me sound like I was some sort of thick idiot! I didn’t want that, I wanted to speak normally like everybody else!

So I stopped going to see this doctor and instead went about trying to find out how to cure stammering my own way. After doing a lot of reading I realised that that the fact I was very shy and maybe even had a mild form of social anxiety didn’t help my problem. I discovered that I had to attack the root cause of my stutter.

In order to learn how to cure stammering I had to build up my broken confidence, and this is where it all begins. I met up with others stutterers and we discussed our problems together which really helped and we began to build our confidence with meeting new people and trying to be more open with people.

Single Sided Deafness and Tinnitus

Unilateral or single sided deafness and tinnitus occurs when a person is suffering hearing loss in one ear and meets normal hearing in the other ear with no loss. Unfortunately, this condition is usually permanent. A single cause can not be determined but more often the sudden decrease of hearing ability can be caused by trauma, measles, mumps and high fever. It is possible and not all that uncommon for a patient to suffer from tinnitus in the same ear that the deafness occurs. Since tinnitus is difficult to understand and even more difficult to treat, this phenomena is hard to explain. For many, it can be very frustrating that the only thing audible is a constant ringing. The good news is that most treatments for tinnitus are effective regardless of the level of hearing.

If single sided deafness and tinnitus occurs this could be sign of other issues as well. When a person sufferers from both this sometimes means that the individual could have acoustic neuroma. Normally this is assumed until further tests can prove differently. Most doctors refer to acoustic neuromas as Vestibular Schwannomas. This occurs when the Schwann cell begins to cover the vestibular nerve. Most people suffering from this source of single sided deafness and tinnitus report symptoms of dizziness as well as more extreme symptoms of facial numbness and tingling.

If the sunset of tinnitus is caused by trauma to the head or any other neurological disorders then there is a good chance that damage to the auditory tube has occurred. These are extreme cases and require extensive treatments that may include surgery. It is also possible that tinnitus can be caused medication and if this is believed to be the case, consult a physician about stopping the medication. There are a large number of drugs that can cause tinnitus and sometimes just switching to a different brand can cure the tinnitus. There are also some very effective home remedies and exercises for tinnitus you can do that can cure cases of tinnitus.

Another reason for what may seem to be single sided deafness and tinnitus could have been a buildup of wax in the ear canal or auditory tube. This can often lead to complete blockage which will cause the symptoms of single sided deafness. Since there are a large number of reasons that cause tinnitus it is hard to diagnose and treat. Often the sunset of tinnitus could mean that there is another problem in the body. There have been a number of cases where people have been bitten by a tick or other insect this has caused single sided deafness and tinnitus. This occurrence is easy to treat but the diagnosis is often missed. However, there are many reports that once hearing is restored that the tinnitus is still present.

Health Insurance Vs Health Plans

There are four common reasons why most people do not have health insurance or health plans. These four reasons are: (1) You are self employed. (2) You are unemployed. (3) Your current job does not offer coverage. (4) You have been released from your parents' coverage. Whatever the reason may be, it is important for you to get covered.

While doing some research on healthcare, you may come across two different types of medical coverage. The first is "health insurance" which includes HMO's, PPO's, and traditional coverage. You may also come across something called discount "health plans". These healthcare types are a little different from one another and you should understand what they are all about before making a final decision on what kind of coverage you choose.

Health Insurance

When choosing a health insurance plan you are going to need to choose between three different subcategories: PPO's, HMO's, and Indemnity Plans. There is not much difference between a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) and an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization). They are both options that keep your premium costs down by only allowing you to see doctors or visit specialists that are members of their provider network. For example, when you see a member doctor, the doctor charges full price for the visit. You pay a co-pay amount of $ 5- $ 25 – depending on your policy, and the insurance company is billed for the rest. You must visit a doctor in the network or the insurance company may not pay their share of your visit.

Indemnity Plans are a little different. Also called "traditional insurance", they allow you to choose whatever doctor, hospital, or specialist you want, and your visit is covered. You pay your co-pay amount and your insurer will pay the rest. These plans may or may not be more expensive, so it is important for you to compare quotes between indemnity plans and PPO / HMO plans.

Discount Health Plans

These are great alternatives to PPO's, HMO's, and traditional insurance, and are becoming increasingly more popular. These plans offer discounts on doctor visits, emergency care, and prescriptions with participating providers in their network, and membership comes with affordable monthly payments. They offer financial relief in your time of need by preventing you from having to pay for 100% of your medical expenses on your own. For example if you have a 50% discount plan, get sick, and see a participating doctor that normally charges $ 70 for an office visit, being a discount plan member means you will only have to pay $ 35 for that visit. Many discount plans are offered by major medical insurance companies and were created for people on a budget.

So if you are debating on health insurance vs. health plans, just know that either way having some coverage is better than having no coverage at all. Pick a plan that allows you to stay healthy without breaking the bank. Staying healthy should be the number one priority.

What Are the Different Types of Wounds Responsible for Causing Tetanus?

Beside roadside injuries, tetanus may occur from various wounds caused by cuts, especially while working in fields / gardens, or when a deep punctured wound occurs in the case of mechanics engaged in various factories / workshops, etc. Tetanus may also manifest itself in patients with bed sores, or wounds caused by splints, or in cases of burns, skin ulcers or, following tooth extraction. It may be due to gunshot wound as well. A simple pinprick, injury by nail, thorn may also cause this problem. Fishermen may also suffer from it when they get an injury while handling the fish-hook. Frost-bite can also prove dangerous in some cases.

Tetanus may appear when injections or intravenous drips are given without proper sterilization. It is usually seen when drug addicts do not use properly sterilized needles / syringes.

The disease is known to occur when the wound is a tiny one, which can hardly be seen and is completely forgotten / healed. In such cases, the patient did suffer from an injury sometimes or the other.

Sometimes tetanus breaks out even in the wards of hospitals. It happens when the various materials used are not quite sterilized. As already mentioned, tetanus spores are highly resistant in nature, and require very high temperature for sterilization / autoclaving. Boiling. for at least 4-5 hours is required to eliminate these spores. In operation cases, tetanus spores get free from the unsterilized material, eg cat-gut, gauze, cotton, etc., the wounds caused by the operation serve as the ports of entry for tetanus spores, and their further germination into vegetative forms, which are responsible for the secretion of the toxin.

A pregnant woman may also become the victim of tetanus by a wound caused during labor / child-birth. It usually occurs when the woman has not been properly vaccinated against tetanus during her period of pregnancy.

Newborn babies may become infected, as a result of tetanus, when the cut ends of their umbilical cords, or any other injuries, they have suffered during their birth, have not been properly treated, with the result that such wound / s get infected by tetanus spores.

Tetanus may also develop in cases of ear discharge (otitis media), when the tetanus spores which may be present in the discharge of the ear, gain entry into the body through perforation / s in the ear-drum of these patients. Such cases are called 'otogenic tetanus'. This is of great importance, because such cases usually remain ignored till they get tetanus. This calls for energetic treatment of the continuing disease of the ear, as well as urgent vaccination against tetanus usually, these cases have not been vaccinated for tetanus earlier. Cases of otogenic tetanus are not uncommon. The author discussed such cases in one of the issues of Current Medical Practice. The disease is more common among children, and the parents should have the requisite awareness about this disease.

Naturally Remove Your Tonsil Stones Without Surgery

Hi,

Welcome. Tonsil stones is a very common problem, so don’t feel alone. I once had tonsil stones and I hated every minute of it. I did not know what it was at first so i researched it. I visited the doctor, which prescribed me some antibiotics. They did not work, only thing they did was reduce the aching in the back of my throat. After medications the last option that doctors tell you is to have your tonsils surgically removed. NOT TRUE.

Well I am going to tell you why you should not get your tonsils removed, as they play a major role in your body system. Best of all why you no longer need surgery to get rid of those awful tonsil stones. I did not want to have surgery, never have before and I did not plan to start. I didn’t have money laying around to pay for surgery, I could not afford it. Yes there are loans, but too much of a headache.

So what did I do? I did what you probably are doing now and I researched my stones learn a lot on the subject. Long story short I am sitting here stones free and I did not need surgery and neither do you. You can do it naturally just like I did. First lets learn what your tonsils are and why they are so important to have, then what you can do to get rid of tonsil stones naturally and never have to deal with them again.

Your tonsils are like glands made of fleshy tissue that contains lymphocytes, what are lymphocytes? They are cells that battle infections, viruses, and any other uninvited intruders.

They are like the gatekeepers right in the back of your throat, one on each side like nets trapping bacteria and viruses that pass through your throat.

They are part of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is like your blood system, except instead of carrying blood it carries lymph fluid. This lymph fluid is like your blood, but it does not have any red blood cells like your blood does. Red blood cells are too big to be able to get through the walls of the capillaries. The rest of the components in your blood however, like vitamins, minerals, and nutrients are able to get by.

This is how your cells absorb vitamins, minerals, nutrients and everything else they need. Once the cells get what they need, they dump toxins, garbage and everything that they dont need into the lymph fluid.

When all the unwanted garbage is in the lymph fluid the white blood cells in the lymph fluid attack and neutralize bacteria, viruses and the other foreign unwanted cells.

The lymph fluid delivered the nutrients and has to dispose of all the garbage. Where does it go now? It goes through the lymphatic system. There are lymph nodes, all over the lymphatic system which are like filters full of millions of white blood cells that clean the lymph fluid of any unwanted debris. Your tonsils are lymph nodes. This way when the lymph fluid has to go back to your blood, it doesn’t carry all the viruses and bacteria and make you sick.

When you get sick you might feel pain or get a sore throat. This is because your tonsils or lymph nodes swell and rise in temperature to fight off bacteria and viruses faster.

Your tonsils are super important lymph nodes!

They filter a lot of lymph fluid every day. Any unwanted cell, bacteria, or viruses, who try to enter the body through the mouth, nose, eyes, or ears, will end up getting killed by the tonsils. Only if your tonsils are functioning as they should.

Bacteria can get to other parts in the body if the lymph nodes are weak. This is how cancer and other severe illnesses are spread, through the use of the lymph system!

Those who doesn’t get killed by the white blood cells in the lymph fluid will for sure get terminated when they enter the tonsils. The tonsils are the last watchers at the gate to the rest of your body. If any bacteria would get past here, disease and illness would spread to other areas of your body. This can happen if you have weak or no tonsils at all.

So what does this tell you? Its a terribly idea to remove your tonsils! Who will protect you from all the viruses and diseases? If you have been diagnosed with tonsil stones you don’t need to get them surgically removed to cure your tonsil stones. There are other ways to permanently cure them. Natural ways. Now to learn of the many natural ways to get rid of your tonsil stones,

First of lets understand our enemy by learning what these stones are. Your tonsils are filled with tiny small openings. Your tonsils swell up and become infected. This means that they are on high alert and are fighting bacteria and viruses. They may also be covered with white goo. This is the byproduct of dead cells, mucous, bacteria, and viruses that get deposited in these openings. They all get accumulated in all different spots in your tonsils. When all this trapped debris hardens and calcifies, is when you have tonsillitis or tonsil stones.

They are yellowish, white and look like stones. True to their name, these formations are not only physically hard, but they are also composed of minerals like phosphorous, calcium, and magnesium. In worst cases they are composed of ammonia residue and even carbonate material. Although these tonsil stones are not dangerous to human life, they can still cause major discomfort, especially if the tonsil stones become too big.

You will get ear and headaches all the time. Even though tonsil stones are nowhere near the ears, you will feel pain in your ears because there are shared nerve pathways.

It will be difficult to swallow food and drinks because your tonsils will be swollen. Always have sore throats from either the stone itself or the infection.

Worst of all tonsil stones smell awful so they will give you bad breath. One of the prime indicators of a tonsil stones that accompanies a tonsil infection. From the presence of the awful smelling compounds I mentioned earlier. Researchers found that 75% of people who had abnormally high concentrations of these compounds also had tonsil stones. Other researchers have suggested that tonsil stones be considered in situations when the cause of bad breath is in question.

Some of them can be visible in the back of your throat as a white solid stone. In other cases they are hidden behind the tonsils and only viewable through different scanning techniques.

How to get rid of stones naturally?

There is a combination of natural ways that you can adopt to your lifestyle to help you get rid of tonsil stones forever without the need of surgery. Complications That Arise From Untreated Strep Throat

When you get a sore throat, besides feeling miserable you may not do anything. However, just to warn you, it may be strep throat, which should not be taken lightly. There are several complications that can arise from untreated strep throat. Some of them include coronary heart disease, rheumatic fever and kidney problems.

Thanks to the invention of antibiotics, strep throat is no longer fatal as it was decades ago. Antibiotics allow strep throat to be treated so that complications do not arise. But many people fear use of antibiotics. Untreated strep throat can lead to scarlet fever or tonsillitis.

Many people who do not treat strep throat risk ear infections, sinusitis, mastoiditis (infection of the mastoid process, a part of the skull behind the ear, glomerulonephritis (infection of the blood vessels in the kidneys) and peritonsillar abscess (collection of pus near Egypt along the tonsils).

Remember, strep throat is contagious and if someone in the family has it, the chances of other family members getting the infection are very high. Strep throat is spread through close contact, sneezing and coughing.

You certainly will not be happy with a strep throat considering that you will be suffering from swollen lymph nodes, swollen and painful tonsil, cough and fever. Strep throat is often mistaken for a sore throat but you should leave the diagnosis to a qualified doctor. Rather than bear the discomfort and risk complications, it is best to visit a doctor and get proper treatment for this bacterial infection.

Fire Alarms For the Deaf

Living with deafness creates a world in which you are isolated from those around you just because you can not hear what they're hearing. Going through life this way can be especially challenging. You have to come up with ways to compensate for everything you're missing. When someone knocks at your door, you can not hear it.

If the phone rings, you never know. A person who's deaf living in a hearing world can find a lot that's frightening and frustrating. One way to make your world a little safer and less frightening is by installing a fire alarm for the deaf.

The Deaf Need Fire Protection, Too

If you have a deaf person living in your home or know one who comes to visit often, you really should install deaf fire alarms to help provide for their safety. Even if you're just installing it for the one person, is not that person important enough to elicit your care? You need to install an alarm unit in the room where the person sleeps in addition to rooms in which he spends time during his waking hours.

People who are deaf need adaptive technology in order to make sense of their world. Since a deaf person can not hear a regular fire alarm, he needs one that is specially-designed to meet his needs. You've got to realize that he is basically alone in his little world and feels isolated and vulnerable. We need to do everything we can to make his life a little easier as well as more secure. How would you like being home alone and knowing that if a fire started you'd have no way of being alerted in order to get out safely?

The Way Deaf Fire Alarms Work

A system which uses strobe lights is the best you can buy for a person who is deaf. Once a fire is detected and the lights begin flashing, it will be impossible for anyone to ignore them. The lights are bright enough to wake the deaf person when he is sleeping, and they will not take "no" for an answer as they remind him over and over as they flash their warning to get out of the building immediately.

By giving that deaf person you know the gift of safety and security, you'll be showing him just how much you do care about him. He will appreciate your little gift of love, and you'll feel good about it, too.
