St Johns Wort – A Beautiful Red Infusion Oil For Nerve Damage, Inflammation, and Sensitive Skin

St. John's Wort is an infusion oil made from the fresh flowering tops of the Hypericum perforatum plant. It lends a beautiful red color to the oil and is used for muscle and joint pain and inflammation, for nerve-related pain such as neuralgia. It is present in many first-aid preparations.

The active ingredient in St. Louis John's Wort oil is believed to be hypericin, which is found in the viscid oily substance in the glands of the leaves, petals and stems of the plant. The highest concentration is in the leaves, flowers and buds. Hypercin is known as a psychotropic activator of neuronal metabolism. This possibly accounts for it's mood-lifting properties. It is recommended for nerve pain such as neuralgia, sciatica and for some rheumatic pain.

St. John's Wort is an anti-inflammatory oil useful on wounds where there is nerve tissue damage or in infected nerve conditions such as sciatica, tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome. St. John's Wort was first recorded as being used in ancient Greece. Native Americans also used the herb. It is not recommended that this oil be taken orally as it can cause side effects. However, it is very safe to use this infused oil topically.

I like to use this oil for cases of nerve damage, especially for carpal tunnel, or tennis elbow. It is a great oil for skin care such as burns, bruises, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, sores and ulcers. I like to use it as a base oil to add essential oils. I will often combine it with Calendula infused oil for various skin aliments. This seems to heighten the effectiveness of both.

Molybdenum deficiency is rare, and is primarily caused by eating foods grown in molybdenum-deficient soils or a diet high in refined and processed foods. The best food sources of sulfur are those high in protein, such as eggs, fish, legumes, meat, milk, and poultry. Plant food sources include Brussels sprouts, cage, garlic, onions, and turnips.

No deficiency symptoms for sulfur have been established.

Zinc

Zinc is one of the most important mineral nutrients. It is necessary for the proper function of over 200 enzymatic reactions in the body. It is a potent antioxidant and detoxifier, and is essential for growth and development, healthy body tissues, regulation of insulin, proper immune function, and, in men, the heath of the prostate gland. In addition, zinc plays a vital role in cellular membrane structure and function as well as to help maintain adequate levels of vitamin A in the body.

Zinc is found in herring, shellfish (especially oysters), egg yolk, milk, and beef and other meats. Whole grain cuts and cereals, nuts, and Brewer's yeast are other food sources. Zinc deficiency is quite common with vegetarians and vegans because they avoid animal foods. They have a particularly high risk unless they consume adequate amounts of whole grains and other non-animal foods containing zinc.

Symptoms of zinc deficiency will include impaired energy production and protein synthesis, and sub-optimal formation of collagen. Other symptoms include dermatitis, fatigue, greater risk of environmental sensitivity, hair loss, impaired immune function, diminished libido, and greater risk of prostate conditions.

Zinc can interfere with copper absorption, therefore zinc and copper supplements should be taken apart from each other.

As you can see these exercises are very easy to follow and you can do them just about anywhere. Exercising your eyes for short periods several times a day are more important than exercising them for longer periods.

Epilepsy, Food Sensitivity, and Heavy Metals: A Supplementary and Alternative Medicine Approach

November has been selected as "Epilepsy Awareness Month" according to the Center for Disease Control. This year, their focus is on seizure recognition and first aid.

There are four main categories of seizures include:

  • Generalized Seizures – affect entrain brain
  • Partial Seizures – affect part of the brain
  • Non-Epileptic Seizures – not caused by epilepsy, but other things such as diabetes, fever, etc
  • Status Epilepticus – a seizure that lasts more than 5 minutes

Epilepsy affects more than 2.7 million people in the United States, and some patients can experience over 100 seizures in a single day.

The CDC recommends that a person seek immediate medical care if someone has a seizure that meets any of the following criteria:

  • If the person is pregnant
  • If they injured themselves during the seizure (falls, broken bones, etc)
  • If this is the first time they have had a seizure
  • If the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes (Status Epilepticus)

Anything that disturbs the normal pattern of the brain can trigger epilepsy. Trauma, illness, brain damage, abnormal development, food intolerances, and heavy metal toxicity can all be factors with epileptic patients. It is estimated that over 75% of patients with epilepsy do not know what is causing their seizure activity. Patients are generally provided with toxic medications that attempt to alter the seizure activity without identifying the underline cause of the problem.

From a Complementary and Alternative standpoint, I often find that patients are able to reduce the frequency of their seizure activity through dietary modifications and removing heavy metals from the body. Certain food intolerances such as gluten (wheat, barley, rye, etc) casein (dairy), corn, or soy can be a major "triggers" for patients with epilepsy.

Heavy metal toxicity can induce a myriad of problems in our bodies, from epilepsy, to infertility, dementia, autoimmune diseases, and more. Once of the most common ways that we experience heavy metal toxicity is through our teeth. Mercury fills, gold crowns, and other metals that are placed in our mouth have the ability to "leak" into our bodies and accumulate in various organs, including the brain. Myopia Causes… Is it Really the Eye?

I started my last article titled “High Myopia – What Causes Myopia?” with saying that if you are easily offended by the truth, you better stop reading, and it applies for this article even more…

The truth is that the cause for myopia is not in your eyes at all. Your eye problem is merely a symptom of the cause. The real cause is psychological. And there are few psychological reasons, which we will cover over a serious of articles.

Today we start with my favorite, with the reason why so many younger people, mid to late teens, early twenties, get myopia. It is the fear of the future.

“What a load of B.S.”, I hear many say, “my optometrist says it has to do with the shape of my lens”, others might be thinking, but before you dismiss anything here, keep an open mind and let’s have a look on how it all belongs together.

Myopia Causes From A Different Perspective

You see, our mind is so strong, that it can literally cause us to black out what we don’t want to see. In our mid to late teens or early twenties we are faced with the question what we want or should do with the rest of our life. But the concept of days in relationship to a life-time can’t be understood as yet, that only comes around by the time we are 40 – 50 years old (see “The Continuum Concept” by Jean Liedloff, p 43). How should we understand what we want to do every day of our life?

So when we are faced with the question what to do for the rest of our life, we get scared, and I mean real scared. But what does that have to do with myopia causes? Great question, hang in there.

How Does THAT Cause Myopia?

Humans in a state of fear get stressed. So stressed that our muscles become tense and tighten up. Now if that happens in our eye muscles, the muscles flatten out the eyeball, extending it like the zoom on a photo lens, and thereby altering the shape of the lens. The shape of the lens becomes stepper because the eyeball is filled with liquid and when it is squashed together, the extension causes a steeper shape of the lens.

Now putting glasses in front of the stressed eyes doesn’t solve the problem because we are still under stress, in a state of fear, and our eye muscles are still tight as. The glasses only help us to see into the distance, the very distance we didn’t want to see in the first place. So, as strong as our mind is, it just tightens the muscles a bit more, squeezes the eyeball further, and viola there is the next level of myopia, and you need new glasses.

This keeps going until you resolve the underlying reasons. Resolving the underlying reasons is much easier than wearing glasses, totally natural, cheap as chips in comparison to a life-time of paying for glasses, and you and your mind can get rid of myopia easily. Glasses on the other hand won’t cut it, they will just increase the tension over time, worsening your eyesight every so often.

The Solution To Myopia Causes

The way to deal with your psychological causes for myopia is to do natural vision correction. That’s it!

Now the fear of the future is only one possible underlying cause for myopia, there are many more myopia causes, but the concept is always the same. Your mind is putting tension on the eye muscles, which extend the eyeball, and therefore alter the shape of the lens.

After emergency treatment measures have been given and you are now out of immediate danger, the next focus will be on how to heal your injuries. On your own end, you need to take care of your wounds. Dressings keep your wounds from getting in contact with contaminants. But, remember to regularly change your wound dressings. Once they are soaked, you need to change to new ones as soon as possible. And if you no longer notice a great amount of drain from your wounds, you still have to regularly change your wound dressings. Some amount of dust and other debris might be present. Fresh dressing materials will make sure that your wounds will be kept away from infection.

Wounds that have dried can be freed from the dressing materials. Once the wounds are closed and dry, there will be no danger in letting them out in the open. This can even hasten the healing process as oxygen in the air can get to your wounds at a much better rate. Sometimes, using more aggressive methods to introduce oxygen into the body is something that you can do. There are oxygen therapies that you can undergo.

Disinfect your wounds using the right products. Soap and water can be effective for some wounds. However, for those who suffered huge and open wounds, this method might not be ideal. Instead, a wound disinfectant such as an iodine solution or a topical antibacterial agent is applied to the affected part.

As much as possible, do not touch your wounds. At a late healing phase, most wounds would itch a lot. Resist the urge to touch the affected part. Your hands can carry potentially dangerous organisms. Sometimes, scabs may be accidentally removed and will only cause you to suffer permanent scars once the wounds are completely healed.

Possible Side Effects of Slimming Tea

Slimming tea is an herbal product that includes approximately 25% tea. Perhaps, the manufacturers and marketers are trying to latch onto the benefits of other pure teas by creating a beverage that is said to stimulate weight loss.

However, these herbal concoctions are filled with laxatives. There is a time in everyone’s life when a laxative may be warranted. Use for weight loss is not one of those times. Among the possible side effects of the use or abuse of these brewed beverages are:

  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach cramps
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fainting
  • Chronic Constipation
  • Dehydration
  • GI Tract problems
  • And possibly death from extended abuse by those who suffer from anorexia or bulimia
  • These side effects may not manifest with occasional use or the first use. However, for some who have “delicate” systems, diarrhea and stomach cramps may occur after the first cup. It must be noted that there are times when the product is useful, especially if one is suffering from constipation. However, it must be further noted that extended use of laxatives in any form will make the body become dependent on them to stimulate the bodily functions. The end result may be that the very product one uses to override constipation may create a never ending cycle on dependency and necessity.

    It goes without saying that pregnant women should not use the products during the nine months of pregnancy as there could be disastrous results.

    Generally, nausea and vomiting follow more than the occasional use. Fainting and dehydration go hand in hand. Often these side effects follow repeated daily use. While death is not likely to be attributed to drinking a laxative filled product, it is understandable that extended use followed by vomiting, dehydration and fainting could eventually lead to death.

    Of particular note, many anorexia nervosa sufferers and those who experience bulimia are more likely to suffer the dire consequences of taking, or drinking, these slimming products daily. The psychological dependence can lead to physical dependence and to death. While no one is suggesting that any of the products are directly responsible for death, the abuse of any weight loss product by someone with a weight related disease should be a consideration.

    Perhaps, there is a place for these products in the cupboard, especially for those times when a laxative is needed. However, before using these products as a weight loss tool, one should be fully aware of the consequences that can arise from regular use or abuse.

    Herpes Zoster Treatment
