Positive Glaucoma – Omega 3 Treatment Benefits Vs. Negative Glaucoma Omega 3 Treatment

Glaucoma is an eye disorder characterized by extremely high pressure in the eyeball and causes the optic disk to be damaged. Although the symptoms may not show up until it is in the advanced stages and is irreversible. This causes the optic disk to be damaged. People should get regular eye exams especially after the age of 40.

In the later stages of Glaucoma there is a loss of peripheral or side vision capability. Blurred vision, blind spots, and halos around lights may occur. Poor night vision is also a late stage symptom of Glaucoma. Left untreated blindness could occur.

Typical treatment includes medicated eye drops and pills that are often effective in decreasing the pressure in the eye. This happens in one of two ways: by slowing down the production of fluid in the eye or by helping to drain extra fluid from the eye. Laser trabeculopathy or trabeculectomy are two surgical procedures that may be done to relieve the pressure and drain the fluid from the eye.

Omega 3 fatty acids include DHA-docosahexaenoic acid is important to eye health and brain functioning. EPA-eicosapentaenoic acid and alpha-linolenic Acid are also Omega 3 fatty acids and together are believed to support good health. Omega 6 fatty acids are Linoleic acid and Arachadonic acid. While these do have some health benefits most diets have an overabundance of Omega 6 and this has been linked to such problems as Heart disease, Macular Degeneration, Strokes, Diabetes, and Arthritis.

Specific studies have not been done to test the reliability of using Omega 3 fatty acids in the treatment of Glaucoma. They have been known to have benefits in other eye problems such as retinal issues and Macular Degeneration. It would be interesting to see studies that addressed the durability of Omega 3 treatments.

There have been studies done to test the benefits of Cod Live Oil according to one study has been shown to relieve intraocular pressure in dogs. Cod Liver Oil is one of the few fish oils that are very rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and since it is already known to relieve other eye conditions can we then believe it would help treat Glaucoma in humans? This definitely bears further study. If Cod Liver Oil does prove to be a positive treatment of Glaucoma it would be an important addition to current courses of treatment.

Alopecia Areata – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Alopecia areata affects men, women and children of all ages. While the resulting hair loss is not always permanent, the bald patches and thinning characteristic of this condition can cause sever loss of self-esteem. This article outlines the causes and symptoms of the disease and offers some suggestions for treatment.

Causes of Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder which causes the body's natural defense system to attack the follicles, damaging them and impairing their ability to produce hair. Although the damage is not always permanent, alopecia areata is a chronic disease with no known cure. Hair loss typically occurs periodically, with phases of hair loss and re-growth. In some cases, especially when the disease begins in early childhood, the loss of hair can become permanent.

While doctors do not completely understand why the disease occurs, there are some known risk factors. You are more likely to develop this condition if you:

  • have a family history of the disorder;
  • have problems with allergies;
  • have another autoimmune disorder, such as rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes;
  • have unusually textured, colored, or shaped fingernails and toenails.

Alopecia Areata Symptoms

The bald patterns associated with this disorder are typically small, round patches of hairlessness on the scalp. The loss of hair can also occur as a general thinning, rather than visible bald patches. In some cases, an individual may lose all the hair on his or her scalp and body.

Balding can come and go; you may experience hair loss in one area, then begin to re-grow the hair, only to begin losing hair in another area.

Your doctor can diagnose alopecia areata by a description of your symptoms, a physical examination of your pattern of balding, and laboratory testing of a hair sample.

Treatment Options

While hair that is lost due to alopecia areata normally grows back on its own within a year, many people choose to treat the balding for cosmetic reasons.

The most common treatment for alopecia areata is injecting corticosteroids at the sites that are affected; topical steroids may also be used in conjuction with a topical hair loss treatment such as minoxidil.

Atrophic Vaginitis Symptoms – How To Know If You're Suffering From Atrophic Vaginitis

Just the name of this disorder sounds scary. Atrophic vaginitis. Symptoms of this can be annoying to say the least. If you think you're suffering from this disorder, see if you have the following symptoms. If you do, you may want to consider traditional and alternative treatments.

Atrophic vaginitis is caused by lack of estrogen. This can afflict women in menopause, women are breast-feeding, and women who have lower levels of estrogen due to medication or surgical removal of the ovaries. It usually takes 5 to 7 years to develop. However, you may experience some of these symptoms before it is full-blown.

The symptoms include:

· Vaginal dryness.
· Pain during sexual intercourse.
· Bleeding after intercourse.
· Itching or burning in the vagina.

If you suspect you have it, your doctor will examine your vagina for signs of thinning or redness. If you are diagnosed with vaginal atrophy, you will most likely be starting on a low dose of estrogen therapy. This generally will relieve your symptoms in a few weeks. Many women have also found relief through natural estrogen replacements. These are plant-based forms of estrogen that are approved by the FDA for human consumption.

In the meantime, you should use lubrication during intercourse in order to avoid teething of the delicate tissue. After a few weeks of hormonal treatments, you should see things return to normal.

While atrophic vaginitis symptoms can be scary and annoying, they are easily treated. Use lubricants for short-term relief, and medical or natural estrogen replacement to solve the problem.

Stroke (Brain Attack) Part IX – How to Prevent and Treat Stroke With Chinese Acupuncture and Herbs

As we mentioned in previous articles, stroke is caused by uncontrolled diet that is high in saturated and trans fats resulting in cholesterol building up in the blood vessel in the brain that blocks the circulation of blood to the body, including cells in the brain. If not enough oxygen is delivered to the brain cells, some cells die off and can not reproduce, the you may have a stroke. Other strokes happen when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures causing the cells in your brain to be depleted of oxygen, so they die and never come back. In this article, we will discuss Chinese herbs and acupuncture that help to prevent stroke.

1. Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the most popular treatment modality for stroke patients in China, used effectively on 85% of the stroke patients there. The recent acceptance of acupuncture by western medical practitioners allows one more effective method in curing diseases especially stroke. Study shows that acupunctures helps to facilitate nerve regeneration, decrease blood viscosity, as well as helping survival nerve cells find new pathways, effectively bypassing damaged parts of the brain resulting in reduced risk of stroke.

2. Ginkgo biloba (bai guo yee).
Ginkgo biloba improves mental functioning as well as preventing blood cells from forming blood clots in the brain. Study shows that ginkgo improves blood circulation and lowers plasma cholesterol concentrations that help to lower the risk of stroke.

3. Gastrodia
Gastrodia was listed in the ancient Shennong Bencao Jing (ca. 100 AD) and was later reclassified by Tao Hong as a superior herb, meaning that it could be taken for a long time to protect health and prolong life, as well as for treating illnesses . Gastrodia is used by Chinese herbalist in treating stroke and chronic weaknesses of Qi that historically blocks the flow of blood to the brain.

4. Cinnamon bark
True Cinnamon is one form of the common spice. As we discussed before, cinnamon helps to lower blood sugar by mimicking insulin, activating insulin receptors and working with insulin in the cells to reduce blood sugar by up to 20%. Also cinnamon has some antioxidant benefits that helps to find new pathways for survival nerve cells after stroke.

5. Angelica
Angelica can help to warm up the chest-yang to remove obstruction of blood flow in the heart vessels as well as brain vessels.

6. Dragon's Blood
Dragon's Blood is used for increased power, purification, protection, consecration, and the development of strong ritual energy. It also helps to relieve pain in the heart due to blood stagnation and stimulate blood circulation to the brain resulting in reduced risk of stroke.

There are many other Chinese herbs that can help to prevent and treat strokes such as ginger root, mantis egg case, and tortoise plastron. Please consult with your doctor before taking any Chinese herb because some of these herbs may have side effects.

Cure Ear Infections Using These Natural Remedies

The official medical term for ear infection is otitis media. The word otitis means inflammation and media means middle, as the infection occurs in the middle ear. Children and babies are more likely to suffer from ear infections than adults. More often than not it should clear up on its on in just a few days.

What Are The Causes of Ear Infection?

Ear infections are more common in babies and youngger children because the Eustachian tubes (the narrow passage way that connects the middle ear to the nose) are narrower than an adult or older child's and, therefore, is easily blocked by fluid in the ear. They are also most likely to occur during a cold.

The swelling of the adenoids is another cause. The adenoids are located in the upper throat near the Eustachian tubes. When the adenoids become infected they become enlarged causing blockage of the Eustachian tubes which can cause infection.

Because the immune systems of small children and babies are not fully developed, they are more susceptible to ear infections.

Children exposed to cigarette smoke or other pollutants are at higher risk as well.

It is possible that cold air may also be a factor as ear infections occur more frequently in winter.

A cause for recurrent ear infections that may be overlooked is the medications given to your child for ear infections, colds and flues, such as aspirin, decongestants, Tylenol, antibiotics or other drugs.

Another cause may be airborne and food allergies.

Ear Infection Natural Cures

Colloidal Silver – Colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic and can be used both internally and externally. You can put one drop of colloidal silver in the ear twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. You may notice improvement in just one hour. If you want to use colloidal silver internally, just follow the instructions on the bottle. It is also available as a spray and can be sprayed into the nostrils to clear up the nasal passes.

Tea Tree Oil – You will need to use warm tea tree oil and olive oil. Put five to ten drops of tea tree oil into a tablespoon of olive oil and mix. Using a dropper put 2 to 3 drops in the infected ear twice a day.

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) – Buy grapefruit seed extract in liquid form. Put 3-5 drops of GSE in 1 oz. of glycerin or alcohol or both and stir well. Put 1-2 drops in the infected ear 1-2 times daily. Absolutely do not use GSE full strength in the ears as it is too strong.

Boosting the immune system will also help in stopping ear infections from recycling.

Helpful Diet and Lifestyle Changes

Avoid processed or packaged foods. Feed your child a healthy diet with lots of whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, eggs, whole grains, meat, etc.

Healthy fats such as flax seed oil, primrose oil, olive oil, borage seed oil, fish oil, coconut oil and organic butter boost the immune system and improve overall health. Absolutely stay away from hydrogenated oils found in deep fried foods, margarine, vegetable oils, peanut oil and soybean oil.

Your child's diet should be as sugar free as possible. Various studies have shown that sugar suppress the immune system significantly.

Find out if your child has any food allergies and remove them from their diet.

Keep your child away from cigarette smoke and other air pollutants such as air fresheners and chemically based perfumes, colognes, cleaning supplies, etc.

Most ear infections will heal by themselves and do not usually need antibiotics, but here are some warning signs you should watch out for: a high fever, stiff neck, listlessness and abnormal mental function. Take your child to a doctor immediately if you notice any of these symptoms.

Backache Herbal Remedies – All Natural Pain Relief

Thousands of years ago ancient human standing up of his two hind limbs and started walking with two legs instead of four, gradually the back and spine of human beings adapted to maintain this posture and bodily needs. This change in performance of body function has many advantages to humans by free his hands for attaining the skills to sustain life, but this also brought the problem of backache along, as the weight of entire body was transmitted to ground via the back and this makes backache the second most common reason to visit doctors clinic.

Pain occurs most commonly in lower back which is commonly called as lumbago. Most common cause of backache is herniation of inter vertebral disc. Backache may also be caused due to spinal tumor, ankylosing spondylitis, diseases in the pelvis, injury to the back sometimes caused due to lifting heavy weights.

Herbal remedies

Various different types of herbal remedies have been used since ages for this chronic painful condition, which aggravates off and on in patients of spinal diseases. Herbal remedies are considered better than the allopathic medicines by many due to its long lasting effects and less chances of producing adverse effects. These herbal preparations may be either for external application or may be for ingestion to cure the pain.

External herbal remedies

The external remedies are applied over the back with a gentle massage or just applied over the affected area and left as such, to relieve the pain cause. They may produce soothing effect either by warmth produced or by local release of chemicals in body by stimulating nerve endings in skin of back.

Hot pepper – It releases chemical 'capsaicin' which irritates and stimulates nerves to release the endorphins, the pain relieving chemicals in body. Preparations made by including pepper in creams are made for local applications over the back.

Ginger – Application of ginger, mixed with suitable other herbs is also believed to decrease the pain.

Herbal baths – By using herbs such as Chamomile, passion flower, Jamaican dogwood, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, ginger and St. Paul. John's Wort hops may be helpful to many patients.

Herbal oils – Herbal oils obtained from trees such as eucalyptus and many such trees are available in markets are backache relieving formulas. You can also use massage oil Rumatone Gold Oil for better result.

Herbal remedies for internal use

Many herbs are used as medicine to cure the chronic nature of backache. These herbs for use have been described in ancient Indian medicine literature of Ayurveda, although their exact mechanisms of action are not known, as we know of the allopathic medicines today.

Guggulu – This is a herb which is used in many herbal preparations to treats pains of chronic nature such as the backaches and the rheumatic pains of joints. The preparations in the form of tablets or powders marketed by companies have to be taken many times along with special medicinal solutions known as 'Kada'. Preparations of Guggulu such as Yograj guggulu and Kaishore guggulu are available in tablet forms and if taken for long time such as 2-3 months, are believed to tie chronic pains arriving from joints including the back.

Coriander and turmeric powder – Taking this powder along with water for few days is believed to tie the pains arising from joints of body.

Do We Really Know Ourselves and Others As Well As We Think We Do?

I suspect that very few of us will have avoided the feeling of either being betrayed, or having betrayed another – either by word or deed. The income is often a lack of trust, even if the betrayal was unintentional. How often does it happen because we assume that we know what the other person is thinking, and that our actions will be understood – and vice versa?

I, myself, lost a very dear friendship due to a misunderstanding of this kind. I told someone that I wanted them around, but that I did not need them. To my mind, that was the highest compliment I could have paid them – my interpretation, coming from my own perspective, was that if you need someone, then you might just keep them around because of that particular need – in whatever form it takes. However, if you want someone, it means that you care enough about them to want them in your life, even if the only thing they have to offer is their company. Unfortunately, our interpretations of the words 'need' and 'want' were very different and my words were taken as an insult, they were very hurt, disconnection ensued and the friendship surrendered broke down.

So often we absorb that people will automatically come from our own perspective, that what we believe they will also believe, and that they will interpret words the same way we will interpret them. As a graphologist, I always like to do 'off the cuff' analyzes – where a person sits in front of me and I talk to them about their writing. Living on the edge as it was, but the analysis has always been the thing that interested me and writing up the reports afterwards, not so much! It brings to mind a time when I was participating in festivals, which I did for over 14 years. I have analyzed thousands of writings in that time, but a few seem to stand out and be remembered for various reasons.

One young lady came to me and asked if her friend could sit in. As I was analyzing her writing I could see her friend out of the corner of my eye, busy shaking her head. When I was finished she exclaimed – 'that does not sound a bit like you'. To which her friend turned to her and said – 'that is exactly who I am'.

On one occasion, I was analyzing the handwriting of a young boy – he was under the age of 14 so it was not a full analysis – we can only do that when the writing itself becomes automatic and thought patterns predominate. His family were with him and, when I had finished, his mother asked for her writing to be analyzed. All went very well until I said that she was a private person – to which she took great exception and told me that she was 'very open'. I explained in detail why I was saying what I was saying, but she still was not particularly happy and turned to her husband and asked what he thought. He told her that he had to agree with me – around her family and friends she was indeed very open, but with strangers she was private and did not give much away. This is something that she had not actually realized about herself. On top of that, she had heard the word 'private' and translated it into 'secretive and there is deceptive'. Fortunately, possibly because they were paying me for a service, we went into great detail about what I actually meant – this does not always happen within friendships, where there in an emotional content to them.

Another instance comes to mind which happened during the time when I was studying graphology. I was working for an engineering company which regularly sent its employees overseas to build whatever needed building, where it needed to be built. One of the engineers was curious and asked me to have a look at his writing. He almost had apoplexy when I told him that he was cautious and careful – he was really offended and told me that he traveled the world at the drop of a hat and there was nothing careful about that. What he failed to take into account was that he traveled within the safety of a company, where his flight was booked, his accommodation was organized, someone would pick him up at the airport on his arrival, he was doing a job for which he would be paid a salary, plus his medical was all arranged. All he had to do was pack and turn up. We agreed to differ, but it had obviously bothered him a lot because about a week later he thought me out and triumphantly washed a letter in front of me – he told me he had resigned and there was nothing cautious about that. When I congratulated him and asked what he was going to do, he told me that he was going overseas to work for a company he had worked for in the past. The irony escaped him – he had this vision of himself as a buccaneer on the high seas, but his writing told me that there was no way he would travel the world with a backpack and no destination, but who was I to disillusion him?

I often say that the soul of a person can be seen through their handwriting, and this is true. I've even asked how I can sleep at night, because I can see both the negative and positive that is going on within a person. I find it interesting that the deer and more hidden aspects of a person's character can somehow be easier to see than the wonderful. That is probably why the young lady mentioned above was not able to recognize her friend during the analysis.

During my third and last year of study, about half a dozen of us formed a group with a professional graphologist as a tutor. I remember one incident when we were asked to analyze the writing of a person who was taking the company he worked for to court. The company had discovered that he had done this a number of times before with other employers and had often won damages. Nobody knew how to deal with him, hence a graphologist was hired. Our tutor wanted to see if we would come up with the same results that she had. We did. It transpired that this person was very arrogant and self-important, and the only way to affect him was to talk to him as though he was inconsequential. Following the graphologist's recommendation, during the hearing he was referred to as 'only the clerk and of little importance'. His fury got the better of his good sense, he showed his true colors and strangely lost the case.

Our tutor once told us a story about an experience she had had. A friend of hers had asked her to analyze the handwriting of all the heads of department in his company. This she did and the results were that there was only one person that was border line dishonest, and that was the accountant. She was told that she was talking absolute rubbish, the accountant had been a friend of his for years and that was that – until he contacted her 14 years later with an apology. The accountant had just run off with the new secretary and a great deal of the firm's money – she had been right all along. The secretary was the catalyst – if she had not turned up then he might have continued working without his honesty being tested – she was his tipping point.

In Conclusion

I think we need to 'absorb' less and 'listen' more, especially if the other person has already annoyed us, because we are then less incurred to give them the benefit of the doubt. I believe that a great deal of pain can be dispensed with if we take this route. If we then come to the conclusion that any negative action was intentional, we can walk away knowing that it is for the best.

I also believe that some regular self-analysis is of great benefit – if something, or someone, pushes our buttons then it's good to ask the question 'Why?' If we react to any situation, it is a clear indication that we have some unfinished business and unresolved issues in that area.

Baby DTaP Reaction

DIPTHERIA, TETANUS, AND ACELLULAR PERTUSSIS (DTaP)

DTaP combines vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis ( whooping cough ). It is currently given as a series of five doses, recommended at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 12 to 18 months, with a booster dose between 4 to 6 years.

Diphtheria generally causes a throat infection, though it can lead to problems in other parts of the body. The mucous membranes of the throat swell and then become thin and fragile. The infection can cause blockage of the airway, or it can spread into the bloodstream and then to the heart, nerves, or brain. Diphtheria is not common in the United States, but pockets of outbreak do occur. It is far more common in developing countries, so vaccination is considered important prior to international travel.

Tetanus is well known. If you step on a rusty nail or get a dirty cut, then the bacteria that carry tetanus toxin can enter the skin and multiply. The bacteria release a nerve toxin that causes muscle spasm, sometimes so severe that the muscles become completely rigid. Lockjaw (also called trismus ) is a classic symptom of tetanus. The breathing muscles can become spastic as well, a potentially life-threatening complication.

Pertussis is more commonly known as whooping cough. In older children, teens, and adults, pertussis causes a persistent "staccato" cough that goes on for so long that the infected person must gasp and inhale deeply to catch his breath. This is the "whoop" of whooping cough. In infants – especially those under six months – pertussis can cause regular breathing to stop suddenly (called apnea ) even before a cough is ever heard. If an infant with pertussis can not get emergency medical care, then he can stop breathing absolutely.

In some studies, it is estimated that 60 percent of adults who have been coughing for more than three weeks carry pertussis. One reason why pertussis is so prevalent is that the immunity against the infection disappears 5 to 10 years after the last dose of the vaccine. Because teens and adults are not routinely vaccinated against pertussis (they get a diphtheriatetanus vaccine without pertussis), anyone older than 10 or 12 years serves as a reservoir for this bacteria.

While older children and adults can get very sick with pertussis, this is quite rare. Rather, it is infants who are at greatest risk when they are infected.

The DTaP formulation of the vaccine has been readily available since 1996. Before that, DPT was used instead. DPT had wholecell pertussis, not acellular pertussis. The old DPT form was conceived with side effects. It often caused fevers up to 104 or 105 ° F that, in turn, led to febrile seizures in some children. It was also reasonably responsible for several infant deaths due to shock. When the formulation of pertussis was changed, the side effects of the vaccine became significantly less severe. DPT is no longer used in the United States.

The most common adverse reactions reported with DTaP include pain or soreness at the injection site (5 percent of children), low-grade fever (5 percent), fussiness (30 percent), and swelling at or around the injection site (8 percent) . Only 1 in 3,000 children experiences high fever. Other adverse reactions include continuous screaming or crying for more than three hours (1 in 2,000), seizures (6 in 10,000), and allergy to one of the components.

Many people ask if the components of DTaP are available separately. While some countries do carry pertussis vaccine on its own, this vaccine is either manufactured nor available in the United States. For now, the only way to be vaccinated against pertussis is to have the combined DTaP vaccine. Tetanus vaccine, on the other hand, is available either alone (T) or with diphtheria (TD).
However, neither T nor TD are recommended for children under seven.

DTaP does not contain thimerosal as a preservative. However, both TD and T do still have mercury.

Myoskeletal Alignment and Nerve Pain

Manual therapists often blame nerve root pressure for pain arising from spinal misalignment. Pinched nerves are commonly targeted as the reason for unexplained neck and back pain. For years, bodyworkers have blamed nerve root compression for pain due to spinal misalignment. However, today most of the medical community disregard the “pinched-nerve theory” because of an absence of neurological signs such as paresthesias, tingling, numbness, motor loss, etc.

Some researchers dismiss the nerve root as a pain sensitive structure. Most do agree that pinched nerves can occur in extreme cases of trauma, muscle entrapments, and chronic degenerative disc disease. To experience nerve entrapment… lie on your side, place an arm above your head, and rest on that arm for a few minutes. The arm will eventually lose sensation as the nerve is stretched and compressed. This is an example of ‘pinching’ of a nerve.

There is a catch (no pun intended). Severe compression of a ‘healthy’ nerve may cause paresthesias, motor loss, sensory deficits, and loss of normal reflexes…but pain is absent. On the other hand, if the compression continues and the nerve’s dural sheath is rubbed raw, becomes inflamed (intraneural edema) and then compressed…pain will be present. This “silent nerve root compression syndrome” was first hypothesized by James E. Wilberger, MD in the Journal of Neurosurgery. His research suggests that time is required before functional alterations create mechanical nerve fiber deformation and accompanying pain.

How’s it work? Compression on an inflamed sensory nerve or its surrounding capillary beds over a length of time can cause the brain to experience pain (nociception). The pressure on the tethered nerve causes muscle cell contraction which leads to altered firing order patterns, protective spasm, faulty posture, wasted energy, and pain. However, it is rare for extended pain to exist as a result of nerve compression.

Pain caused by oxygen deprivation of the sensitive nerve tissues is a far more typical occurrence. This harmless and reversible condition can be extremely painful. Chronic back pain is most commonly blamed on pathologies such as herniated discs, bone spurs, etc., The pain often results from mechanical strain on joint related tissues such as spinal ligaments, joint capsules and muscles.

Here’s the good news. There is a form of manual therapy that can effectively treat both types of problems; the reduction in nerve function (tingling and numbness) as seen in piriformis and thoracic outlet syndromes, and also pain due to nerve fiber irritation. The objective of Myoskeletal Alignment(R) is to improve joint mechanics in the affected area to allow healing of the joint and surrounding soft tissues.

In Myoskeletal Therapy, the joint is held in a specific position with one hand and the surrounding soft tissues are stretched with the other. The client/patient isometrically contracts to a count of 5 and relaxes as resistance is met. This isometric muscle contraction is followed by a pin-and-stretch articular mobilization which releases motion-fixated joints. This very effective manual therapy technique often alleviates pain immediately once the abnormal joint position is corrected. This allows better movement with less nerve pain.

There will always be a certain amount of discussion over what symptoms qualify to be called a pinched nerve. Many nerve compression experts will continue believing that neurological tissue can be only be compressed by bone. Others maintain that a herniated disc and osteoarthritis are the primary culprits leading to a weak nerve signal.

Ear Aches – Causes, Symptoms And Treatment

An Earache Can Be A Real Pain In The Ear!

But ear aches do not have to be.

Ear aches are a common problem for many children. Some children can go through childhood with very few ear aches or none at all. Other children may stay at the doctor's office with ear aches. In learning how to combat ear aches, it is important to learn what causes ear aches. This will help parents prevent earaches in their children.

What causes an ear ache?

The tube connecting the middle ear to the back of the nose is called the Eustachian. This tube allows fluid drain out of the middle ear. However, if that tube's lining is invaded by bacteria or viruses, the tube can become swollen and may fill up with a thick mucus. This leads to the inability of the fluid to drain normally. As bacteria grow in the fluid, pressure can build behind the ear drum and this causes pain.

Allergies, cold and other illnesses can cause the Eustachian tube to become blocked. When the adenoids become enlarged they can block the Eustachian tubes as well. These are all referred to as ear infections. They usually clear up within a week or two, but in the meanime they can be extremely painful and include fever and other symptoms. There are also times that an ear infection will last even longer than two weeks and may even become chronic. Additionally, even after the infection clears, the fluid can remain in the middle ear which can lead to even more infections and, in extreme cases, hearing loss.

What are symptoms of an ear ache?

Older children can tell you that their ear hurts. Their ear pain may also be accompanied with fever. Babies, however, and children who are too young to tell you where it hurts may cry or pull on their ear or ears. A child with an ear infection, regardless of age, may show signs of irritability, listlessness, have difficulty hearing and may not feel like eating or sleeping. This is particularly true with breastfed babies who have an ear ache. Because a breastfed baby suckles in a certain way that is different and more difficult than suckling from a bottle, this motion can irritate the baby's sore ears causing him or her to "go off his feed."

What is the treatment for ear aches?

There are several ways that a doctor may approach treating an ear ache. If the doctor suspects the infection to be bacterial, he or she may prescribe an antibiotic. Pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol products) and ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin products) can offer some relief and reduce fever if it is present. Aspirin, however, is not recommended. Warm compresses or a heating pad applied over the ear may reduce the pain. There are also times when ear drops are prescribed.

When medications are prescribed, whether it is antibiotics or ear drops, it is imperative that they are administered as directed by the doctor. With antibiotics it is exceptionally crucial that they are given on time and that no doses are skipped.

What are some risk factors that may cause children to get ear aches?

Children who are around people who smoke are at a very high risk of getting ear infections. Additionally, if they have had previous ear infections or have a family history of ear infections can increase their risk. It is no big secret that children in day care are exposed to many more germs and viruses so this is a large risk. A child who was premature at birth or had a low birth weight may also be at a higher risk. If a child has frequent colds or other infections, takes a bottle to bed, uses a pacifier or has a nasal speech that is caused by large adenoids blocking the Eustachian tubes he or she may be more at risk of developing an ear ache. Interestingly, males tend to show a higher incidence of ear infections than females. However, knowing the risk factors and knowing if your child fits into any of these categories can be the best defense. Prevention can be the best medicine.

Cure For Stammering – How to Stop Stammering Through Hypnosis

The root cause of stammering is fear. You might be surprised to know that the reason of this fear lies deep in your memories (subconscious mind). There was a person, who used to stammer only on the ‘R’ alphabet. He would speak all other words right, but whenever he has to speak any word, which either starts with or includes letter ‘R’ in it, he would stammer!

When hypnotized, it was found out that he had a troubled childhood. His father was an alcoholic, and as a kid, he often used to beat him. When angry, his father used to swear at him, and he often used the word ‘Rascal’, which was followed by a hard slap or something equally violent. This left such a deep impression on him that he subconsciously developed a fear against the anything related with the letter ‘R’.

This is just one of the many cases that we can easily find around us. There are many people in this world that have the same problem. They stammer while speaking, and because of it, some people make fun of them, which makes them low in confidence.

Fear can indirectly result in creating many complex problems in our life. As it is a problem related with our mind, the solution for fear, and anxiety lies within us. There are lots of problems that are directly related to our subconscious mind. In the conscious state, we will not be able to imagine that the solutions of these problems lies deep within us, but through hypnosis, we can easily locate these problems, and through proper hypnotherapy, we can also cure them permanently

Stroke Treatment Using the Feldenkrais Method

Stroke is quite common worldwide, and is currently the third leading cause of death in the US If you or a loved one has had a stroke, there may be permanent loss of function on one or both sides of the body. A stroke occurs when the blood supply to a part of your brain is disturbed or reduced, robbing brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. A stroke can occur because of a clot or actual bleeding inside the brain. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. As a result, the affected area of the brain is unable to function, causing symptoms like the inability to move an extremity, laborated speech, and / or a headache. Treatment for a stroke is both immediate and ongoing. Immediate treatment often involves going to the hospital for testing and observation. Immediate treatment may also involve medications, physical therapy, and acute nursing care. Ongoing treatment is usually referred to as stroke rehabilitation. Stroke rehabilitation takes place in the hospital at first. And after a while, you can be transferred to outpatient care when you are functionally better.

Because the effects of a stroke feel permanent, it is hard to imagine that help for a stroke is possible. A Feldenkrais approach to stroke treatment takes the following neuroanatomy into consideration:

  • Areas of the brain responsible for specific functions are vastly underused.
  • The body has a way to communicate right and left (corpus collosum) the functional efforts of the unaffected side. This allows the affected side to have a "model" of function from which to learn.
  • New neural connections around areas of damaged brain can be formed, a process called neuroplasticity.
  • These new connections respond to stimuli in much the same way as the old connections, restoring lost function.

If physical therapy has not worked to your satisfaction, the Feldenkrais Method can be used to treat all problems for which surgery is not necessary. Feldenkrais uses simple, gentle movements to reorganize posture, flexibility, strength and coordination. Based on the neurological processes by which we learn movement skills, it is a novel approach to stroke therapy , harnessing the power of the brain to help the body function more efficiently. More efficient use of self creates environments within which chronic problems can improve. Limbs can move more freely, sitting and breathing improve, and everyday activities becomes possible again. Let Feldenkrais show you how to improve your ability to function after a stroke, and get more out of life.

Cure For Stammering

If you're searching for a cure for stammering then you will need to read this article. Stammering also known as stuttering that can completely dictate and destroy a persons' life. I should know because for over a decade I suffered with this speech disorder. I learned how to achieve fluency, however, and I want to share what I learn with you right now.

Before I figure out the cure for stammering for me, stammering was ruling everything I did. I literally could not answer the phone or the front door for fear of stuttering to the recipient. I had this crippling anxiety whenever I was out in public places and this really hindered my social life too. I was not prepared to live that way for the rest of my life so I thought help.

I found out some news that initially set me back and made me thought there was no cure for stammering. Well, this is because there simply is not a totally effective cure that works for everyone. This is why there are so many methods out there that have claimed to treat stuttering, such as visiting a speech therapist.

Perhaps you have been told to visit a speech therapist by someone you are close to, or by something you have read? It is very hard for somebody who has not been affected with a stammer to understand how damaging this condition can be on the sufferer. This is why I think speech therapists can not give you the help you really need to achieve fluency.

To find an effective cure for stammering for you, you have to realize the many ways there are out there to help you speak fluently. For example hypnotherapy is becoming rather popular because it makes you forget you have a stammer and therefore you simply speak normally again. For me this sounded a bit too good to be true and hypnotherapy had not worked for me in the past so I did not try this out.

Instead what I decided to do was two things. I first wanted to stop speaking the way I currently was and to do this I needed to re-train the way I spoke. I managed to get my hands on some speaking and breathing exercises that would stop my bad speaking habits such as speaking too fast and holding my breath while I spoke.

I also studied how fluent speaker were speaking and tried to imitate them so I could speak like them. After about six months using these methods my stutter was actually gone and my self confidence shot up.
I can now speak normally like everyone else and you can as well if you know what you're doing.

My cure for stammering was to find a way to tie the built up stress I had in my body. As you may know, stuttering is made worse due to stress. I decided to take up yoga which really helped with relaxation and my speech improved slightly. The could be your cure as well and there is no harm in trying yoga.

Pus in the Throat – Symptoms and Causes of Pus in the Throats?

While the glands of the throat typically produce one to two quarts of mucous daily, which filters the air and traps foreign matter you inhale, abnormal substance like pus in the throat is a symptom of a wide variety of throat problems ranging from strep throat to bacterial infections. However, one of the most common causes of pus or excess mucous in the throat is the presence of tonsil balls.

These stone-like balls are usually whitish in color and can be both irritating and painful. They tend to form in the back of the throat, on the base of the tongue, or most commonly in the pockets on the tonsils themselves. While they are essentially harmless, tonsil balls can cause a myriad of symptoms ranging from sore throat and pus in the throat to difficulty swallowing and coughing. The stones are caused by an accumulation of calcareous matter and sulfur-based bacteria or debris that can become lodged in the tonsils.

Pus in the throat and the presence of these stones can often be treated with basic home remedies, such as expressing them with a Q-tip, brushing them away gently with a toothbrush, or washing them out of the mouth with pulsating jets of water. In more difficult cases, doctors can use a surgical procedure to rid a person of the stones.

Occasionally, more severe infections can occur in the tonsils, like tonsillitis, and the tonsils must be removed in a relatively routine procedure. If you suffer from pus in the throat or other symptoms affecting the tonsils, such as chronic bad breath, stomachaches, excess phlegm, and the feeling of a lump in the throat, see your general physician for a further diagnosis and treatment.
