Playing Guitar and the Wound 3rd String

We all know that guitar strings come in many flavors. They can initially be separated into categories according to what types of guitars they are made for.

There are strings that are designed for acoustic guitars, electric guitars and classical guitars. Within those categories they can be further separated according to thickness (gauge), material, and brand.

Furthermore, each set of strings can be separated into categories of "wound" and "un-wound" strings.

Wound strings are manufactured by "winding" a material around a central core. The result is a "thicker" string capable of producing lower bass tones.

Two common materials that wound strings are made of are "bronze wound" strings, typically found on acoustic guitars – and "nickel wound" strings typically found on electric guitars.

Quite often, the main difference between a set of acoustic guitar strings, and a set of electric guitar strings (other than material); is that an acoustic set contains a wound 3rd string. On an electric set of guitar strings the 3rd string is often un-wound.

A typical set of acoustic guitar strings will usually look like this:

1st (E) – un-wound

2nd (B) – un-wound

3rd (G) – wound

4th (D) – wound

5th (A) – wound

6th (E) – wound

The extra thickness of the wound 3rd on a set of acoustic guitar strings helps add a "fullness" to the tone of an acoustic guitar by increasing the "bottom end" of the sound.

From the perspective of a lead guitarist that plays electric guitar, a wound third string can have a down side. A wound string is much harder to "bend" than an un-wound string.

To prove this to yourself, pick up an acoustic guitar with a wound third and attempt to bend the string. It can be done, but will require a lot of extra finger pressure, and the string will not have as much "give".

This is why most electric guitar sets come with an un-wound 3rd, because so many string bends, when playing lead guitar, take place on the 3rd string.

But ironically there are electric guitar strings available with a wound 3rd string.

Why? Because some electric guitarists that typically play rhythm guitar, prefer the extra "meat" in tone that the wound 3rd string produces.

Which one is best for you? It's hard to say and greatly depends on your personal preference and playing style.

But for the time being, just be aware of the differences between string sets with wound 3rd strings and un-wound 3rd strings, and play around with each until you find the one that works best for you.

A Common Wound Problem After Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is a highly effective operation at downsizing and reshaping large breasts. It is a fairly complex procedure that uses a keyhole skin removal and reduction approach to lift the nipple upward and create a more conical shape to the breast. From a plastic surgery standpoint, this is known as the 'inferior pedicle' technique and is the most method by which plastic surgeons perform breast reductions in the United States. There are other techniques for performing breast reduction, but the inferior pedicure method is reliable and adaptable to all types of breast sizes and shapes.

One of the most common complications from this method of breast reduction is separation or opening of the anchor or inverted T portion of the closure at the lower breast crease. This occurs so often that I inform all patients to expect it in either one or both of their breasts. This opening after surgery occurs because this is the point of maximum tightness or tension of the skin closure and, as healing and inflammation set in, the wound edges will separate. Sometimes it will be small, a dime or nickel size, and in others it can develop into an opening much bigger.

What is feasible about this problem, and very disturbing to patients, is that it does not usually appear until at least three weeks after surgery. The incision lines from the breast reduction look great for weeks and then this developments. By three weeks most patients assume that all potential 'problems' are over and everything will just continue to get better. But the biology of healing goes against this perception as the sunset of inflammation and wound tension relief create this delayed wound problem. Despite its ominous appearance, this breast wound separation is a self-solving problem. It may take a week or so reach its maximum size but it will heal and fill in on its own over the ensuing weeks.

Therapeutic Benefit of Manuka Honey in Wound Care

In comparing the use of Manuka Honey dressings with topical antiseptics on wound infections, it has been found that Manuka Honey dressings significantly reduce the amount of fluid exuding from the wound. This, in part, is a result of the anti-inflammatory properties present in Manuka Honey. In addition, the anti-inflammatory properties in Manuka Honey also help to reduce pain and minimize scaring.

It has also been established that Manuka Honey dressings create a moist wound environment which facilitates the healing process. Manuka Honey draws lymph out of the deeper tissues of the wound by osmosis and continuously cleans the wound bed. Lymph fluid contains enzymes that degrade protein molecules. The constant reduction of wound fluids remove foreign body contamination, such as dirt or grit.

The most likely explanation for Manuka Honey's degradation activity involves the conversion of blood to plasmin, which is an enzyme that breaks down the protein in blood coagulation. This conversion minimizes dead tissue and scab formation on the wound. The osmotic action of Manuka honey draws moisture into the skin.

It has also been found that Manuka Honey has the ability to reduce malodor in wounds. Malodorous substances such as ammonia and sulphur compounds are produced when bacteria feeds on the protein in a wound. Because Manuka Honey provides bacteria an alternative source of energy (sugar), these noxious compounds are no longer produced and wounded malodor is eliminated.

In clinical observations, Manuka Honey has also been proven to have the ability to manage wound infection in circumstances where antibiotics and other conventional treatments have failed. More specifically, Manuka Honey has been found to be effective against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacterium such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) and other multi-resistant microorganisms. These mutated types of bacteria protect themselves from antimicrobial elements by forming a biofilm. Manuka Honey breaks down these clumpy biofilms as well as preventing the formation of biofilms. These findings are particularly encouraging, considering the growing number of cases involving Staph infections that do not respond to antibiotics. So far there has been no evidence of any bacterial resistance to Manuka Honey. It is highly unlikely that bacteria will ever be able to develop a resistance to Manuka Honey because bacteria rely on sugar as a source of food.

Manuka Honey's antibacterial properties are a result of the following:

1. The high sugar content and low water activity provides an osmotic action;

2. Acidic pH inhibits bacterial growth;

Glucose oxidase enzyme produces hydrogen peroxide;

4. Plant-derived factors such as UMF and Methylglyoxal.

Manuka Honey's antibacterial properties have the ability to penetrate below the surface of the skin, making it possible to clear deep-contained infections and boils with unbroken skin. In other words, Manuka Honey diffuses through the skin, getting to deeper tissues.

"The use of Manuka Honey dressings help prevent cross contamination," says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International which is a manufacturer of advanced wound and skin care products containing Active Manuka Honey as a healing agent. "The sticky nature of Manuka Honey provides a protective barrier that precedes cross contamination."

Three Secrets of A Consistent Golf Stroke

What you are about to read … will change your golf life forever! What are these three "secrets"? If you knew how would they effect your game ?. These three "secrets" are what the worlds best players do. Every player MUST know these "secrets" if they are to have a powerful, repeating golf stroke.

The problem with the majority of golfers is that they do not know what to do. Oh their friends, well wishers at best, tell them that they are "bending their left arm", "raising up through the shot", "coming over the top" and host of other swing faults. But these are the same people that shoot the same scores you do! What could they possibly tell you that would improve your game?

The information you are about to receive is not theory or conjecture but science. Ooooh, you say, this sounds complicated. Well it is not, it is simply the laws of force and motion that govern our entire lives and day to day living. Once you understand these simply laws your golf game will forever change … for the better!

Secret # 1: A Flat Left Wrist

Because the golf stroke involves a golf club, a left arm, and a wrist in between, it is called a "lever system". The left wrist acts as a "hinge pin" much like the old time "flail" used to beat wheat. This "hinge pin" can rotate, cock or uncock but NEVER Bends!

Golfers however routinely bend the left wrist causing the clubhead to reach the ball before the hands do. This causes a "quitting" motion, adds loft to the clubface, points the face to the left of target, makes the clubhead swing upward disabling the downward motion that ALL good golf shots MUST have. Good players DELOFT the clubface at Impact. Poor players ADD loft to the clubface costing them distance, direction, and trajectory.

A 5 iron, for example, has approximately 8 degrees for "forward lean" when soled properly. At Impact with good players the "lean" is approximately 15 degrees. This turns the 5 iron into a 4 iron. Poor players reach Impact with a "backward" leaving clubshaft thereby ADDING loft and turning the 5 iron into a 6-7 iron!

Secret # 2: A Staright Plane Line

You only have two choices when it comes to the swing plane, you are either on or you're off. There is no middle ground!

What exactly is the swing plane? The plane is the angle of the clubshaft as it sets at address – period! It is NOT Hogans plane of glass as many would have you to believe. There are only three planes available;

1. Horizontal – a wall

2. Vertical – the floor

3. Inclined somewhere in between

As golfers you and I use the Inclined Plane to swing the club back up and end, down out and forward, up back and in making the Golf Stroke three dimensional.

The clubshaft, actually the sweetspot of the club, may travel to any other plane angle during the swing as long as it DOES NOT cross the base of the plane. Here is a simple way you can know if you are on plane or not. Whichever end of the club is near to the ground MUST also point at the base of the plane from horizon to horizon. If none end is nearer then the clubshaft MUST be horizontal to the ground and parallel to the base of plane.

Secret # 3: A Lagging Clubhead

Lag by definition means "trailing". When the clubhead passes the hands coming into Impact there is no "lag". Without "lag" the golf ball can not be compressed, we can not hit downwards, and we have a tremendous power loss. Clubhead lag promotes a steady and even acceleration giving us a dependent way to control distance.

Look at any picture of your favorite player at Impact. The left arm and clubshaft are in ONE LINE! Never two lines. This means that the player is utilizing "lag". When a ball is stuck with "lag" it explodes off the clubface! Without this "lag" the sound turns into one of mush, a soft Impact instead of a driving Impact.

————————————————– ———-

If you follow this outline, learn these three "Secrets" you will be hitting the ball with more compression than you ever thought possible.

For example, a Driver striking a golf ball with a 2 degree "backward" leaving clubshaft at 100 mph with 9.5 degrees of loft produces a launch angle of 6.4 degrees and a carry distance of 230 yards.

By changing Impact to a 2 degree forward lean clubshaft the player produces a launch angle of 10.4 degrees and a carry of 251 yards. A 21 YARD INCREASE WITHOUT buying a new Driver and simply having clubhead lag!

YOU can improve your game dramatically by following the steps above above. Become the best player YOU can be and start winning those 4 way presses! If you really want to elevate your game, hit it farther, straighter, and nearer the hole then practice what I've shared with you.

Symptoms And Signs Of A Stroke

When the brain does not get enough oxygen, it is unable to perform its usual functions. Symptoms of a stroke depend on the area of the brain that is affected and the amount of damage done to the brain tissue.

If a stroke is small, there are no symptoms but it does cause damage to the brain tissue. Such a stroke is called a silent stroke. However, symptoms of a stroke manifest themselves either in a few minutes or a few hours. Symptoms of a stroke may appear and disappear, or disappear completely, or become worse in few hours. Around one third of all strokes during sleep and symptoms of a stroke are felt and noticed after waking up.

Symptoms Of A Stroke

o Weakness in the arm or leg, or both on the same side of the body

o Numbness of feeling of pins and needles may be present on one side of the body or part of a side

o Problems in coordination. You may find it difficult to keep your balance or face problems in picking up things

o Facial muscles may start drooping

o Slurring in speech and you are not able to control the movements of your tongue and lips

o Having problems in swallowing

o Experiencing dizziness

o Sudden and severe headache

o Loss of peripheral vision or blindness

o Sudden confusion

o You may become unconscious

o Paralysis

o Vomiting

o Seizure

o You may face difficulty in walking

Signs Of A Stroke

Most people do not experience any signs of warning when a stroke is about to happen.

Do You Know How to Use Reflexology For Better Eyesight?

Our eyes are truly a precious gift from God. Only those who have been denied the gift of sight or those who have lost it truly understand its importance.

Reflexology has helped many in different stages of blindness. It can do no harm and it is always of some benefit even if it fails to give a person perfect eyesight. Reflex massage always relaxes, no matter what one is using it for, and that in its self is good.

You can also bring more beauty to the eyes by using reflex massage as directed.

Stimulating the Kidneys to Strengthen Your Eyes

Two of the most important organs effecting normal functioning of the eyes are the kidneys.

To stimulate the kidneys, massage the reflexes in the center of the feet and also the hands.

Now turn to the reflexes for the eyes themselves. Massage the reflexes just under the two toes next to the big toes where they fasten to the foot, doing this massage on both feet. Use the same massage on the two fingers next to the thumb. If these are tender, the reflexes are in need of massage to break loose certain blockages affecting the normal function of the eyes.

Massaging Eye Reflexes for Better Eyesight

Now we turn to massage of the reflexes near the eyes for correction of many eye problems. If there is tightness of muscles around the eyes, they may pull on the eyeball, distort this shape, and cut off circulation, causing near and far-sightedness. Tight eyelid muscles sometime cause friction on the eyeball that can lead to the formation of Cataracts. If the eye muscles in the back of the eye are tight, the drainage ducts will be squeezed shut and won’t empty properly. This can cause a buildup of fluid resulting in Glaucoma.

To loosen the eye muscles, take you middle fingers and massage along the reflexes underneath both eyes. Press in as you go across and feel for tight muscles. When you find that a muscle is tight, you will also probably find a hard spot or feel the muscles snap under your fingers. When you stimulate the reflexes to the eyes you immediately give renewed energy and life to your eyes.

Don’t do this very often at first. When you over stimulate the eyes, it can give you a terrible headache. Do this only once the first day: then increase as you feel that you can, without any over stimulation. This holds true for the other eye reflex massages and also for the eye exercises I will give you later.

Move to the bones on top of the eyes and repeat the procedure. It may be easier to use the thumbs for this position. Work across the muscles and not with them when you do this massage.

Take your middle finger or thumb and work across the muscles on top of the nose starting deep in the eye socket. You will probable find this very tender, but remember our moto,

“If it hurts, rub it out”

Do this to both eyes: then go across the muscles on the forehead just above the eyebrows. If you feel a hard core or a tight band, you will know that you have found a tight muscle that may restrict the natural flow of electric energy by way of the reflexes. It will probable be quite tender because the circulation of the vital lifeline is being blocked by these hard or tender areas.

Massaging these reflexes around the eyes can also help correct protruding eyes, eyes that hurt or are sensitive to light, and slanted eyes caused by muscle tension.

Please give this a try and you will be amazed about how much better you feel.

Nutrition and Stroke Patients

Nutrition augments stroke treatment and must be administrated accordingly by the caregiver and stroke patient's family. According to research, nutrition affects the course and outcome of a stroke patient's life and recovery.

A study conducted by Salah Gariballa of the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom notes that, "stroke patients are highly dependent on others for their nutritional requirements being met. Many are undernourished prior to the stroke and their nutritional status declines further in the hospital" .

Gariballa's research showed that due to poor diet provided to stroke patients, they become susceptible to diseases such as urinary tract infections, undernutrition, dehydration, among others.

A great way to avoid these from happening would be to undertake considering measures such as:

1. Get a reputable nutritionist – the first thing family members and caregivers of stroke patients should do to get a reputable nutritionist to identify what diet should be complied with. This ensures tailor-fitting meals that will help the stroke patient recover physical and mental strength to adapt to the various treatments, as well as absorb learning where applicable.

2. Subscribe to a health and wellness food magazine – exposure is one of the best ways to adapt to change. If the patient used to love unhealthy food it is relevant then to immerse him or her to literature that will boost the desire for healthy food. This is also a great way to improve memory and reorient the patient in relearning various topics, especially since food magazines are typically very visual and can pose as a great activity for learning images.

3. Watch cooking shows for the health-conscious – if food magazines are not available, find useful purpose for the television through cooking shows the inspire consumption of good food and health habits.

4. Encourage everyone to adapt to the new health lifestyle – any endeavor, to be effective, requires conscious group effort. The same goes to having a healthy lifestyle for the patient. This must be supported by family and friends – the best way of showing support is eating nutritious food yourself.

5. Enjoy the food together – there's no better way to enjoy good nutritious food than eating it with loved ones. Boost the patient's gusto for food by joining them in their meals.

Proper and good nutrition augments stroke treatment as it provides the necessary antioxidants and components for the body to recover from the deficiencies of stroke. It is the role of caregivers and family members to ensure the stroke patient gets the nutrition needed as the latter is solely dependent on the former for this.

Treating Epilepsy With Natural Remedies

Epilepsy is a nerve related physical disorder. In epilepsy the brain's normal electrical activity is disrupted and the patient experiences seizures as a result of that. In an Epilepsy attack patients may lose consciousness or his / her vision can turn blank for a few seconds. Patients lose control over their senses and start making queer movements like jerking or thrashing various parts of their body.

Epilepsy attack can be controlled but it can not be cured. Thereafter treatment of epilepsy has to be continued for the whole life. Patient has to continue remain health conscious. That's how he / she can lead a healthy life.

The natural remedies of epilepsy are more to do with life style management. The remedies include certain advises.

Epilepsy patients should follow strict diet; they should live in a relaxed environment and they should do minimum or less intensity exercise on a regular basis. Once in a week a fruit diet is good for these patients.

Instead of heavy large meals, epilepsy patients should prefer taking small meals during the day.
Application of mud pack is said to be a good cure to decrease the occurrence of epileptic attack in a patient.
Application of hot and cold compress at the back of head for 2-3 minutes proves beneficial in controlling epileptic seizures. At the same time bathing in Epsom salt treated water proves healthy for the patients suffering from epilepsy.
The patients of epilepsy should avoid all sorts of emotional outbursts. Strict avoidance of physical and mental stress and a relaxing life style is the secret of consistent well-being of an epileptic patient.
The sharp aroma of basil helps an epileptic patient to recover from a seizure attack quickly. It is thereby recommended that epilepsy patients should keep basil flower or basil essential oil fragrance in a hanky which they can inhale the moment the seizure strikes.

Fresh grape juice consumption works almost like a miracle for an epilepsy patient. The patient of epilepsy should drink 500ml grape juice three times daily for minimum three months. This simple natural remedy will certainly help him / her get better control over epileptic seizures.

Vitamin B6 is a good supportive diet remedy for epilepsy. Natural sources of vitamin B6 are milk, rice, brewer's yeast, green leafy vegetables, peanuts, and carrots and these ingredients should be included in the daily diet of epileptic persons.

Optical Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that are characterized by pressure that is too high for the optic nerve to withstand. The optic nerve is crucial in sight, as it is the nerve that sends all of the images created by the eye to the brain. Given its cruciality, damage to the nerve from glaucoma results first the loss of peripheral vision, and then central vision. Glaucoma can be treated in many different fashions with medication and often times surgery is required to stop it from completely damaging the optic nerve.

Glaucoma develops at a different rate for every individual, meaning that one individual might experience nerve damage from a relatively low amount of pressure, while another individual might have noticeably higher pressure and yet be able to withstand it for years without developing any damage.

There is several different types of glaucoma with the most commong type being: primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). POAG is dubbed the "sneak thief of sight" because it typically has no symptoms. Another type of glaucoma is acute angle-closure glaucoma, which is commonly characterized by an acute rise in the intraocular pressure. Acute angle-closure glaucoma occurs in eyes that are vulernible as the pupil dilates, thus blocking the flow of fluid through it. Acute angle-closure glaucoma will generally cause pain and blurred vision, and in more extreme cases leads to irreversible visual loss within a short time. In such cases immediate treatment is required.

Some symptoms of the disease are: halos around bright lights as well as the loss of sight (slowly or rapidly). If you suspect that you or someone you know is affected with glaucoma it is extremely important to have it checked out by an eye doctor immediately because untreated glaucoma can result in total loss of sight.

What is Areata Alopecia?

Alopecia Areata is the name given to a condition where round bald spots appear on your skin and scalp. The hair loss is very sudden and quite often drastic. Alopecia is a disorder that causes a patient's immune cells to attack their own hair-growing tissue for unknown reasons. Usually a trigger is needed to start the process (often in the form of a virus)

There are three basic stages of Alopecia Areata:

1. Sudden hair loss. The patient will notice a bald spot. Which may appear minimal at first.

2. The bald area will enlarge; hair loss will increase in the immediate area of sighted balding.

3. New hair will grow in place of the lost hair. This process is different for everyone. Hair may start growing in a matter of weeks, months, sometimes more than one year. Neverheless, it's very rare that hair does not grow back.

Not Just the Scalp

Patients who start losing hair from their body (including eyebrows and eyelashes) are very wrinkled. They have every reason to feel this way. Alopecia Areata acts in such a way that it's very unnatural. But these patients are not alone in their experiences. Most patients do not realize that the symptoms that they're experiencing are all attributes of Alopecia-a temporary condition.

Common Misconceptions:

While many patients blame stress, medication, and poor diet; there is not any clinical proof that these claims coincide with the balding disorder. Unfortunately, doctors do not know why a patient's immune cells turn on the body and cause this condition. Despite this lack of information, studies do show that Alopecia Areata commonly occurs in patients who family members have had the condition. Alopecia Areata is not contagious.

Treatment:

While patience is an important asset with this condition, your physician may suggest cortisone shots (which promote and stimulate hair growth). Although Cortisone shots have been very successful with Alopecia patients, these shots are very painful. The average patient who opts for this treatment receives twenty to thirty shots into each patch, once per month. This treatment is only effective for the immediate area that has been injected. It does not assist hair growth in other bald areas.

Unfortunately, doctors can not predict if this treatment will work for you. There are no guaranteed results. A prescription cortisone cream is another solution, which can be applied to the bald area. Cortisone cream is not painful and can be easily applied in the privacy of your home.

Otitis Media Treatment – Discover the Secrets to the Most Successful

Typical otitis media treatment is with antibiotics. This may resolve the whole issue in many children. But an increasing number of children are becoming resistant to them. You can see this by the number of times the condition returns.

It's worth knowing that antibiotics lowers the immune system. Many parents are now becoming concerned, and rightly so, about using antibiotics on their children.

It's far better to allow a child's immune system to try to cure their ailments unaided. By allowing for this possibility, you are ensuring your child will grow up with a healthy immune system, one that will stand them in good stead all their lives.

However, there are times when you need to give them some help. And you can do that so elegantly by using homeopathic medicines.

One of the best homeopathic medicines for otitis media treatment is Chamomilla. This diverse medicine can resolve some ugly symptoms so easily.

But you need to be able to match the symptom picture of your child's condition to that of the medicine. So let's see what the strong keynote symptoms of Chamomilla are:

  • any ear condition, where the child seems to be over sensitive to the pain
  • any condition of your child, where you feel at the end of your patience
  • the pain is worse for touch and worse if wind blows on the affected part
  • the child may be irritable and / or capricious – demands something then throws it away
  • maybe worse at around 9 am or 9 pm
  • the child demands to be transported

The best otitis media treatment, the most successful, is with the use of homeopathic medicines, which work by boosting the immune system. You can not get better than that.

Chicken Pox Treatment – How To Get Rid Of Chicken Pox Quickly and Easily From Home

Follow the above home remedies and the tips below to relieve the symptoms and effects of chicken pox:

1. All juice diet – Put the patient on an all juice diet for a couple of days. Give the patient plenty of raw fruit and veggie juices. Lemon juice is known to be one of the best juices to give the patient.

2. Well-balanced diet – At first, put the patient on a 100% fruit diet. After the condition seems to be improving, switch the patient to a more well-balanced diet.

3. Well-ventilated room – Keep the patient in a well-ventilated room. Be sure to keep the patient from any direct light.

4. Warm baths with neem leaves – Give the patient a warm bath with neem leaves included in it. Neem leaves should be added to the water for the best results.

Nerve Pain: Try Using Visualizations And You May Get Some Relief

"Neuropathic" means nerve damage and returns to nerve pain. So far there's very little that science can do about it. But it's possible that your subconscious may be able to help you find some relief.

The two forms of neuropathic pain – peripheral and central – both occurs when a nerve is damaged from injury or some other source. If the damage is in the periphery of your body, you feel pain from touch immediately. If it's in the central nervous system, you only feel it after a delay of 20-30 seconds – and potentially the pain is more intense.

Peripheral Nerve Pain

Some major types of peripheral nerve pain include the following:

o Posttherpetic Neuralgia occurs after an outbreak of shingles has healed. Shingles damages the nerves, which then send unclear and overblown pain messages to the brain. The result can be aching, burning, or jabbing pain in the area of the former shinglees infection.

o Trigeminal Neuralgia affects the trigeminal nerve, which sends impulses from the face and head to the brain. The pain can be severe and is usually felt on one side of the jaw as being knife-like or electric in nature.

Central Nerve Pain

Central nerve pain is unique among the types of pain in that it is the only one that is caused by the central nervous system itself. All other types occur in the periphery and are transmitted to the central nervous system. This makes central pain unusually bizarre and severe – sometimes the worst pain known to humanity.

Some major types of central pain include the following:

o Dysesthetic Burning is a blunt, metallic burning feeling that has a strangely cold quality to it. It goes on at a constant level over large areas of the body. Any light touch, particularly from clothing, triggers flares of unbearable pain.

o Hyperpathia is a sharp, overwhelming reaction to pain that people who do not have central nerve pain would find only some painful. It tends to occur on parts of the body where the dysstatic burning is the least. Ordinary bumps and abrasions can become excruciating.

o Allodynia is pain that occurs from stimuli that are not normally painful. It appears near but not on the area stimulated. The slightest of moves can trigger the pain.

o Other forms of central pain include permanent cramping in given muscles, shooting pains, pins and needles, and agonizing bladder and bowel pain.

Neuropathic Pain and the Subconscious

Through visualization statements it may be possible to focus your subconscious on the brain chemistry involved in central nerve pain.

Visualization statements represent the specific language that your subconscious desires you to read back to it to help ease your pain. They're simple and are targeted directly at the main factors that could bring you relief.

You can obtain these statements by learning how to communicate directly with your own subconscious mind. The process is straightforward and can be done at home by working with a facilitator over the telephone. You need no special skills and no previous experience in working with the subconscious.

We have not yet worked with neuropathic pain. However, the signals for this pain are transmitted by the same neurotransmitters that we normally deal with when focusing the subconscious on other kinds of pain:

o We have experience using visualization statements to address glutamate, substance P, norepinephrine, and acetylcholine, the four major pain transmitters.

o We've used visualizations to address endorphins / enkephalins, GABA, serotonin, and dopamine, the four major pain inhibitors.

Reducing the Pain Signal

The above eight neurotransmitters play a major role in increasing and inhibiting nerve pain. Putting these factors back in balance is that a preventive measure, one that helps to keep the pain signal from being generated in the first place.

But an important part of your pain relief strategy also needs also to be to attempt to reduce the pain signal once it has been generated. This can be approached by focusing the subconscious on numerous chemical weak points (we call them leverage points) where it may be possible to use visualizations to reduce the pain signal.

If you can learn to engage your subconscious, you most likely will be able to identify which leverage points apply to you. You can then use visualization statements to give your subconscious the daily reinforcement it needs to potentially take the edge off your pain at those points.

Help For the Alopecia Sufferer

Although alopecia [al-oh-PEE-shah] is a common disease, its name is not widely known, and even though it is not life-threatening, it's sporadic nature and tendency towards recurrence often has considerable psychological effects on the alopecia sufferer. Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss or baldness. It is the name which designates the reliably redundant and early fall out of hair that appears previously weakened by follicular obstruction. While in come cases there can be no cure, many times new treatment options offer hope for the alopecia sufferer.

Hair Loss

While previous estimates on what substances 'normal' hair loss have been quoted as high as 100 to 150 hairs a day, recent studies show that number should actually be closer to 35 to 40 hairs a day. Yet what concerns us here is not the normal shedding of the hair, but rather abnormal hair loss, also known as alopecia. By the age of thirty-five, some forty percent of both men and women show some degree of hair loss. Partial or complete re-growth of hair can follow, but permanent loss of hair can occur when the roots of the hairs are severely damaged. Forms of this disease should be studied so that the alopecia sufferer can work towards a solution for their hair loss.

Types of Alopecia

Traction alopecia is a common cause of hair loss due to pulling forces exerted on the scalp hair. Traction alopecia is more common in women than in men because women are more involved with hairstyling practices such as braiding or chemical hair straightening, and they are more likely to use tight curlers and nylon brushes and to wear chignons or buns. Female pattern alopecia or baldness is less common than male pattern alopecia. Male and female pattern baldness is usually a genetic condition, although female pattern alopecia rarely leads to total loss of hair. The loss of hair from this type mostly starts at the front, the sides or on the top of the head. The hair loss from alopecia areata is typically seen in patches on the head and or body. Alopecia areata monolocularis means that hair loss occurs in one spot only, usually on the head. Alopecia areata multilocularis means that hair loss occurs in several spots, and loss may not be limited to the head. It can progress to the complete loss of hair from the head (called alopecia totalis) and can even spread to result in loss of all hair on the head and body. Called alopecia universalis, it is a severe form of alopecia areata. This alopecia sufferer experiences permanent loss of all body hair, including eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair in the pubic area and armpits. Toxic alopecia is characterized by the temporary loss of hair and is caused by an overuse of medications or some vitamins, or is bought on by certain diseases such as thyroid or postpartum disorders. Diffuse alopecia is the term for loss of hair after acute chronic systemic diseases, emotional stress, febrile illness or childbirth. Another common form of hair loss, postpartum alopecia is caused by hormonal changes during the course of a pregnancy. There is usually very little sign of these changes during the pregnancy itself, but rather a sudden and very excess loss of hair from three to nine months after the birth of the child. While this hair loss is often very traumatic for the new mother and alopecia sufferer, the hair growth cycle typically returns to normal within a year after the end of the pregnancy. Alopecia is a condition that is not limited to humans only, as it can also affect your cat or dog. As you can see there can be many types of alopecia sufferer.

Causes of Alopecia

Many autoimmune diseases, like lupus and AIDS can cause hair loss. An alopecia sufferer may have experienced mental or physical trauma. Those suffering from eczema may experience some hair loss as well. Vigorous combing and chemical bleaches and styling products can additionally irritate the scalp to cause further hair loss or it may be caused by the use of hair dryers, combs or any other heated metallic element capable of generating lesions on the scalp. Alopecia may occur because of nerve disorders, congenital abnormalities of the hair, genetic factors, heredity, alteration of the immune system, injuries and thyroid problems. Some medications like thallium, high doses of vitamin A and retinoid also cause a type of alopecia.

The Importance of Celibacy and Chastity

There exists considerable evidence from the field of psychiatry to indicate a definite relationship between the sex gland and the brain. Spermatozoa may have an internal function that is necessary for the normal metabolism of the brain, and dementia praecox (schizophrenia) may be due to an alteration of deficiency of their production due to degeneration of the seminiferous (pertaining to the formation of semen) tubules of auto-intoxication (due to having been poisoned). This may result from masturbation and sexual excess in causing a chemical withdrawal from the circulation necessary for the nutrition of the brain.

We must remember that lecithin is a chief constituent of the myelin sheaths of the nerve-cells and essential for their activity, during which it is consumed-for it is the nerve-oil that keeps the fire of nerve and brain activity burning. Since lecithin is also a principal constituent of the semen, we can readily understand why excessive sexual activity should lead to lecithin deficiency and under-nutrition of nerve and brain cells. The sex glands influence the brain. Their influence on the nerves, however, is more immediate and profound.

Conservation of semen means conservation of sex hormones and increased vigor, while loss of semen means loss of hormones and diminished vitality. Also chronic deficiency of such hormones leads to the symptoms of senility.

“We tell you that at every emission of semen you’re losing the nutrients and the best portion of the (blood) corpuscles, inasmuch as every particle of semen which is ejected will be replaced by more taken from the blood. This is enough to convince you that when you are ejecting semen, which should stay in the body and become reabsorbed so as to form the oil in the joints, in new muscles, in the brain tissues and as well as every other part of the body. That process gets restricted when one indulges in sex.

Lord Krishna says, “Real happiness is to transcend material happiness and unhappiness, and real misery is to be implicated in searching for sex pleasure (kama-sukha). A wretched person is one who cannot control his senses, whereas one who is not attached to sense gratification is a real controller. One who attaches himself to sense gratification is the opposite, a slave.”

The search for mundane sex pleasure, kama-sukha, is not appreciated by Krishna. The art of lust is portrayed in the book kama sutra, and of course, it is not meant for persons wishing to make spiritual advancement.

Gandhi: “The horror with which ancient literature regarded the fruitless loss of vital fluid was not a superstition born of ignorance. Surely it is criminal for a man to allow his most precious possession to run to waste.”

“But we tell you that when you see paralysis, palsy, apoplexy and brain softening you may set it down that there have been sexual losses and a waste of the bodily substance from the sexual orgasm. We assure you nothing can be so enervating as this sexual excess, and any sexual mating is an excess if it is not for the purpose of having children.”
