How Serious is Open Angle Glaucoma?

Open angle glaucoma, which is also known as chronic simple glaucoma, occurs in 80 percent of all people with it, yet it is an eye disease that can be cured if it is discovered early. There are generally no symptoms with glaucoma; so many people do not realize they have it until it is too late. This is unfortunate, because if treated early, vision can be saved and the disease cured. This is why it is extremely important to pay attention to any signs that might appear.

There are other types of this condition but open angle is the one that affects the eyesight of most people. The sad fact is that there are more than 3 million Americans who have this disease but are not aware of it yet, based on statistical research. This disease works by damaging the optic nerve through pressure in the eye or decreasing the blood supply to the optic nerve.

If it is done early enough by scheduling eye exams, then it can be arrested, and a person's vision can be saved. However, any damage that it has caused up to that point is not fixable. The people who are most at risk of contracting this disease are black people, people over 40, or anyone that has a history of it in their family.

Most people who contract it discover that they have open angle glaucoma. This type is the most common and occurs in over 80 percent of all glaucoma cases. Glaucoma destroys a person's vision by affecting the optic nerve, by putting pressure on and or stopping the blood supply to it. Whatever damage the glaucoma causes is permanent, yet if done early, then it is very treatable.

Many people do not realize that they have this disease because the loss of vision happens so slowly; they can not tell it is happening to them. The only way to make sure that you are safe from the ravages of glaucoma is to be diligent about your health of your optical system and seek attention for any eye problems. Make sure that you have your annual eye examination and you can perhaps save your vision.

Finding out that you have contracted an eye disease is very difficult to deal with. Open angle glaucoma affects over 80 percent of the people that contract it. The good news is that it is a treatable disease. If people make sure that they have regular exams with their optical doctor, then they will be safe from the damages of this disease.

Health Is Wealth – A Conceptual Critique

People have different preferences towards available life options. Same is true for the statement “health is wealth”. What exactly is it? A simple preference that signifies health is superior to wealth? Or a comprehensive statement that indicates health and wealth are linked with each other, systematically and dynamically?

Health is a comprehensive concept, it includes physical strength, mental power and spiritual-wellness of a person. On the other hand, wealth is the richness of a person i.e. abundance of money and worldly items. “Health is Wealth” is a simple statement but its meaning is so fabulous when deeply thought. People now a days refer the statement as when a person is healthy, he is capable of making wealth. On the contrary, if one is not healthy he/she cannot work productively, and hence won’t be able to generate income for independent living. This explanation is true but the deep meaning of this claim can be understood by the words of Virgil: “The greatest wealth is health.” Mr. Virgil is trying to enlighten the concept that the greatest wealth is health, not money or worldly items. There is nothing more valuable in our life than having a good health.

Patrick Meagher said: “Some people are so poor, all they have is money.” Nowadays people are influenced by wealth improperly that they don’t even care about their health, the greatest wealth. They don’t understand that without health there is no real happiness and enviable success. A person with poor health is unable to enjoy the pleasures of life. I think such people are foolish enough because they do not care about their health. Our first priority should be to maintain our health in the best way.

There are multiple methods and practices by which a person can stay healthy; Spending time in natural environment i.e. visiting parks and gardens. Physical exercise is also essential e.g. morning walks, playing sports, etc., it keeps a person smart and healthy. Water is the cure for all types of illness, so drink water to stay healthy and fit. Eating a balanced diet keeps people away from different illness and diseases. It is said that: “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” Abandon unhealthy practices and habits e.g. smoking, drinking and taking drugs because it harms internal parts of our body. Always be optimistic and cheerful because: “Laughter/smile is the best medicine.” On the contrary, an unhappy person is more prone to fatigue and other illness.

Remember, living a healthy life can be the greatest gift you can give yourself because one cannot enjoy life if he/she is unhealthy. In addition, we must not harm our health by running madly behind wealth. I would like to conclude my essay on the nice words of Mae West: “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”

Diabetic Retinopathy – A Leading Cause of Blindness Worldwide

Diabetic retinopathy is the disease that diabetes (more commonly known as diabetes mellitus) causes in the eye. Symptoms range from mild blurriness to complete blindness. The disease is not curable, but severe vision loss can usually be preceded with early diagnosis and treatment.

The retina is the light sensitive tissue that lines the inside of the eye. It captures light and transmits images to our brain, thus creating "vision." The retina can be damaged by a variety of diseases, for instance, macular degeneration, retinal detachments and diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy affects the retina is a couple of ways. Most commonly, retina blood vessels become incompetent and leak fluid and blood into the surrounding tissue. If the fluid accumulates in the macula, causing macular edema, vision becomes blurred. Macular edema does not cause blindness.

Fewer patients develop the more aggressive and severe form of retinopathy, namely, proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The hallmark of this stage of the disease is the presence of neovascularization. Abnormal blood vessels grow on the surface of the eye and other internal eye structures. This abnormal tissue can lead to diabetic retinal detachments, causing blindness. A very rare, painful, type of glaucoma may develop as well.

Retinal treatment for macular edema traditionally involves the use of laser treatment. Intravitalreal steroids and anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), delivered via intraocular injection, are becoming more of the mainstay of treatment.

Treatment of proliferative retinopathy starts with pan-retinal photocoagulation, another type of laser treatment. Proliferative diabetics can also develop retinal detachments or bleeding in the vitreous. In these cases, vitrectomy eye surgery may be helpful.

Most people believe, incorrectly, that good sugar control prevails the eye disease from developing. The largest risk factor to developing the disease is the number of years a patient has been diabetic. Period.

Diabetic retinopathy can be a devastating disease. Early detection and treatment is essential to maintaining excellent useful vision. All patients with diabetes, regardless of vision, should have a dilated eye exam at least annually. Waiting until there is noticeable vision loss may be too late.

Positive Glaucoma – Omega 3 Treatment Benefits Vs. Negative Glaucoma Omega 3 Treatment

Glaucoma is an eye disorder characterized by extremely high pressure in the eyeball and causes the optic disk to be damaged. Although the symptoms may not show up until it is in the advanced stages and is irreversible. This causes the optic disk to be damaged. People should get regular eye exams especially after the age of 40.

In the later stages of Glaucoma there is a loss of peripheral or side vision capability. Blurred vision, blind spots, and halos around lights may occur. Poor night vision is also a late stage symptom of Glaucoma. Left untreated blindness could occur.

Typical treatment includes medicated eye drops and pills that are often effective in decreasing the pressure in the eye. This happens in one of two ways: by slowing down the production of fluid in the eye or by helping to drain extra fluid from the eye. Laser trabeculopathy or trabeculectomy are two surgical procedures that may be done to relieve the pressure and drain the fluid from the eye.

Omega 3 fatty acids include DHA-docosahexaenoic acid is important to eye health and brain functioning. EPA-eicosapentaenoic acid and alpha-linolenic Acid are also Omega 3 fatty acids and together are believed to support good health. Omega 6 fatty acids are Linoleic acid and Arachadonic acid. While these do have some health benefits most diets have an overabundance of Omega 6 and this has been linked to such problems as Heart disease, Macular Degeneration, Strokes, Diabetes, and Arthritis.

Specific studies have not been done to test the reliability of using Omega 3 fatty acids in the treatment of Glaucoma. They have been known to have benefits in other eye problems such as retinal issues and Macular Degeneration. It would be interesting to see studies that addressed the durability of Omega 3 treatments.

There have been studies done to test the benefits of Cod Live Oil according to one study has been shown to relieve intraocular pressure in dogs. Cod Liver Oil is one of the few fish oils that are very rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and since it is already known to relieve other eye conditions can we then believe it would help treat Glaucoma in humans? This definitely bears further study. If Cod Liver Oil does prove to be a positive treatment of Glaucoma it would be an important addition to current courses of treatment.

Therapeutic Benefit of Manuka Honey in Wound Care

In comparing the use of Manuka Honey dressings with topical antiseptics on wound infections, it has been found that Manuka Honey dressings significantly reduce the amount of fluid exuding from the wound. This, in part, is a result of the anti-inflammatory properties present in Manuka Honey. In addition, the anti-inflammatory properties in Manuka Honey also help to reduce pain and minimize scaring.

It has also been established that Manuka Honey dressings create a moist wound environment which facilitates the healing process. Manuka Honey draws lymph out of the deeper tissues of the wound by osmosis and continuously cleans the wound bed. Lymph fluid contains enzymes that degrade protein molecules. The constant reduction of wound fluids remove foreign body contamination, such as dirt or grit.

The most likely explanation for Manuka Honey's degradation activity involves the conversion of blood to plasmin, which is an enzyme that breaks down the protein in blood coagulation. This conversion minimizes dead tissue and scab formation on the wound. The osmotic action of Manuka honey draws moisture into the skin.

It has also been found that Manuka Honey has the ability to reduce malodor in wounds. Malodorous substances such as ammonia and sulphur compounds are produced when bacteria feeds on the protein in a wound. Because Manuka Honey provides bacteria an alternative source of energy (sugar), these noxious compounds are no longer produced and wounded malodor is eliminated.

In clinical observations, Manuka Honey has also been proven to have the ability to manage wound infection in circumstances where antibiotics and other conventional treatments have failed. More specifically, Manuka Honey has been found to be effective against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacterium such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) and other multi-resistant microorganisms. These mutated types of bacteria protect themselves from antimicrobial elements by forming a biofilm. Manuka Honey breaks down these clumpy biofilms as well as preventing the formation of biofilms. These findings are particularly encouraging, considering the growing number of cases involving Staph infections that do not respond to antibiotics. So far there has been no evidence of any bacterial resistance to Manuka Honey. It is highly unlikely that bacteria will ever be able to develop a resistance to Manuka Honey because bacteria rely on sugar as a source of food.

Manuka Honey's antibacterial properties are a result of the following:

1. The high sugar content and low water activity provides an osmotic action;

2. Acidic pH inhibits bacterial growth;

Glucose oxidase enzyme produces hydrogen peroxide;

4. Plant-derived factors such as UMF and Methylglyoxal.

Manuka Honey's antibacterial properties have the ability to penetrate below the surface of the skin, making it possible to clear deep-contained infections and boils with unbroken skin. In other words, Manuka Honey diffuses through the skin, getting to deeper tissues.

"The use of Manuka Honey dressings help prevent cross contamination," says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International which is a manufacturer of advanced wound and skin care products containing Active Manuka Honey as a healing agent. "The sticky nature of Manuka Honey provides a protective barrier that precedes cross contamination."

Boost Your Immune System This Flu Season

With the flu season upon us, all of us should take steps to get our immune systems ready to fend off germs. Boosting your immune system is a very good idea if you want to stay cold- and flu-free. Let's start with the very basics: good sleep, balanced diet, physical activity, and avoidance of tobacco smoke.

1. Good sleep

Why do we sleep? During sleep, our bodies rest and rejuvenate. Getting adequate amounts of sleep every night may even boost the immune system. According to a study reported in the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine (2003), people who were vaccinated against Hepatitis A and got a good night's sleep afterwards had almost 2 times the level of antibodies than the group of vaccinated people who did not sleep after the vaccination . The moral here is that sleep is important to keep your immune system in shape, so get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. School-age children and adolescents need at least 10 hours of sleep, so do not let your children convince you otherwise. Remember, there is always "tomorrow" if it comes to playing computer games or watching movies!

2. Balanced diet

Eating three meals a day, and nutritious snacks in between, will help your immune system work efficiently. By eating healthy, you provide your immune system as well as the rest of your body with all the necessary nutrients for optimal functioning. When your body is well nourished, it can fight off infections better. Therefore, fill your plate with fruits, vegetables, and lean meats or fish. Also, do not forget about 3 servings of dairy products to keep your teeth and bones strong! Good hydration is also very important, so have at least 5 glasses of water a day in addition to the other fluids that you usually drink.

3. Physical activity

Moderate physical activity improves the efficiency with which our immune systems fight viral and bacterial infections. Despite the efficiency of the immune system increments while exercising, when the exercising session is over, the efficiency reduces to baseline within a few hours. However, if you exercise regularly you may prolong this beneficial boost in the function of your immune system. The American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine issued new guidelines for physical activity for adults. Detailed guidelines are available at americanheaart.org/fitness. The recommendation stresses the importance of moderate physical activity for 30 minutes, 5 days a week, or vital physical activity three times per week. According to the guidelines, short bouts of activity can be combined to meet the 30-minute-a-day goal, so get off the couch and engage in an immune booster activity!

4. Avoidance of tobacco smoke

Did you know that exposure to cigarette smoke not only gives us wrinkles but also decrees levels of vitamin C in our bodies? This possibly lowers the efficiency of the immune system leaving us prone to catching colds and other infections. In addition, inhaled cigarette smoke damages cilia, tiny hairs that line up the respiratory system. Their function is to continue beat in one direction and move secrets from places where they are not suppose to stay for too long. When they get destroyed and mucus (produced during viral illnesses such as colds or the flu) is not clear efficiently anymore, we are more prone to bacterial sinus, ear, and lung infections. The key is to avoid cigarette smoke filled places and if you smoke, seriously consider quitting. Talk to your health care provider to discuss options for quitting smoking. You may also access information about how to quit here.

There is no cure for a viral illness. However, let's talk about 3 potential immune system boosters that may help you in ward off the viruses: zinc, vitamin C, and Echinacea.

1. Zinc

So far, there are conflicting results as to whether zinc is effective in treatment of colds in adults. There is no sufficient evidence for its effectiveness in children and adolescents. Therefore it is not recommended for these age groups. The adult studies that determined zinc to be effective, claim that it may shorten the duration of a cold by 3-4 days if started within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms. Zinc has an unpleasant taste and may cause an upset stomach. Long-term use is not recommended because high levels may interfere with absorption of copper so leading to deficiency. Adults wishing to use zinc to treat their colds should follow package directions for dosage and limit zinc use to a week or shorter.

2. Vitamin C

Vitamin C does not prevent colds. However, if it is taken regularly, vitamin C may shorten the duration of cold symptoms. People with medical conditions, such as kidney disease or blood disorders, need to talk to their health care providers before starting the supplement. Mega doses of vitamin C are not recommended, because vitamin C's effectiveness in cold treatment is very slight. Therefore, just make sure that your diet contains the recommended daily amount (90 mg for men, and 75 mg for women).

3. Echinacea

For years, scientific studies would deliver contradictory results as to whether Echinacea helps banish colds. Today, the herb is in! A large meta-analysis suggested that the herb decreases the duration of a cold and lowers chances of catching one! Echinacea is believed to stimulate the immune system, so it's advantageous to start taking it at the first sign of cold symptoms and continue until all the symptom are gone. Buy products that have a mark "USP verified" and follow package directions while taking the herb.

What's USP?

The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is the official, science-based, public, standard-setting authority for all prescription and over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, and other healthcare products made and sold in the US USP sets standards for the quality of these products. By the federal law, prescription and over-the-counter medicines must meet the standards of the USP. To learn more about USP go to http://www.usp.org/aboutUSP/ .

An ounce of prevention will also go a long way:

1. Frequently wash hands with regular soap and rub hands for 15 seconds

2. Avoid contact with sick people

3. Clean the telephone receiver and door knobs with Lysol

4. Keep your hands away from the nose, eyes, and mouth

5. Cover you cough and sneeze with your sleeve

How to Treat Glaucoma With Acupuncture

Glaucoma is a condition of the eye in which if not treated early can lead to blindness. Since there is no pain or other symptoms, it usually remains undetected until vision is impaired. Peripheral vision is lost when the optic nerve gets damaged due to the increase in IOP or intraocular pressure. Eye drops and laser surgery can be used to control eye pressure. Laser surgery can help lower eye pressure for a certain percentage of patients, but patients need more surgery after a few years if the root cause of glaucoma is not addressed. If a patient has had more than two surgeries, usually scar tissue builds up and the pressure cannot be lowered by surgery easily. So many people prefer to try a non-invasive procedure at first, especially if eye pressure is not very high. One of these methods is acupuncture for glaucoma, which is a traditional and ancient form of Chinese medicine.

How Acupuncture Lowers Eye Pressure

If the patient has been diagnosed with glaucoma in its early stages, then acupuncture and acupressure can be very effective. In the later stages of glaucoma, it is better to combine eye drops with acupuncture and acupressure. The insertion of fine needles improves circulation of fluids around the eye without causing dry eyes or infection, if done by an experienced acupuncturist. Especially when patients already have a few laser surgeries and eye pressure is still very high, then acupuncture two to three times a week may be the best choice.

Acupuncture Takes Care of Overall Health of the Eye

Acupuncture also helps to improve vision and slow down degeneration of the optic nerve. Acupuncture for glaucoma supports the function and integrity of the optic nerve. The optic nerve usually is damaged because blood flow to the eyes decreases. Acupuncture increases retrobulbar circulation which helps not only in decreasing intraocular pressure but also speeding up fluid circulation in and out of the eyes. Researchers have found that even the visual acuity in people suffering from glaucoma can be improved when at least a couple of sessions of acupuncture are done every week.

Acupuncture and Acupressure with Medicines Offer Faster and Better Results

Most experts recommend those patients suffering from glaucoma consider going for a few sessions of acupuncture every month, because eye drops can cause severe dryness and reduce fluid circulation around the eyes. Clinically, when patients go to see an acupuncturist at least once a week and practice acupressure every day once or twice, they can lower the eye drop dosage to prevent dryness and infection in their eyes. Furthermore, patients reported vision acuity improved by combing glaucoma acupuncture and eye drops. The needles that are inserted are retained for about 30 minutes around eyes, neck, hands and feet, and the depth of the insertion is about 3-10mm.

Epilepsy Symptoms

The symptoms of epilepsy vary depending on what kind of seizure the person has. Possibly the simplest way of explaining this is to give an overview of what the different kinds of seizure would look like to an observer and feel like to the person experiencing them.

Partial seizures are often called ‘petit mal’. To the outside observer, the signs of this are not obvious ones. In the simple partial seizure the person first has what is famously called an ‘aura’. This is actually the first part of the seizure activity. There is no loss of awareness however, which can make it seem like a separate phenomenon. The aura is not necessarily a set of lights shimmering in front of the person. It is equally likely to involve a sense of numbness or tingling in some part of the body. Alternatively, there may be a compulsive twitching start in the face of some other familiar part of the body. It can be very unpleasant, like nausea or increased heart rate. However, the aura has also been described as ecstatic and may come in the form of hallucinations that are considered by the person to be worth the pain of the seizure that will inevitably follow.

The next type of epileptic seizure is the complex partial seizure. To the observer, the epilepsy symptoms are obvious and disturbing. In this type of seizure the person does lose consciousness and they can proceed to behavior that is so odd and out of character that they can be a danger to themselves and others. This behavior can involve taking off clothes, doing strange random actions, walking around and mumbling. The variety is endless and quite individual and these seizures can last from 30 seconds to 3 minutes.

The more common conception of an epileptic seizure is of someone having a ‘fit’. This is the generalized tonic-clonic seizure, or ‘grand mal’ beginning with a sudden cry and a fall. The stiffening of the body that starts the process is called the tonic, the spasms and jerking that follow is called the clonic. This can look quite alarming, especially if the person manages to bite their tongue and blood appears. It usually lasts for only about 2 minutes, which can feel like an eternity if you are the onlooker. The person usually needs some care and reassurance when they come around as they are likely to feel confused and extremely tired after the epilepsy symptoms pass.

Finally there is a general group of tonic and myclonic seizures. The myoclonics involve significant muscle jerks, causing the person to spill what they are holding or even to fall off the chair. Among the tonic disorders here are two types of ‘drop’ attack, so called because they cause the person to fall to the ground if they happen to be standing. The ‘tonic’ causes the person to go rigid, while the ‘atonic’ predictably causes the person to lose all tone and also fall for that reason. In none of these last seizures is there any noticeable loss of consciousness.

Atrophic Vaginitis Symptoms – How To Know If You're Suffering From Atrophic Vaginitis

Just the name of this disorder sounds scary. Atrophic vaginitis. Symptoms of this can be annoying to say the least. If you think you're suffering from this disorder, see if you have the following symptoms. If you do, you may want to consider traditional and alternative treatments.

Atrophic vaginitis is caused by lack of estrogen. This can afflict women in menopause, women are breast-feeding, and women who have lower levels of estrogen due to medication or surgical removal of the ovaries. It usually takes 5 to 7 years to develop. However, you may experience some of these symptoms before it is full-blown.

The symptoms include:

· Vaginal dryness.
· Pain during sexual intercourse.
· Bleeding after intercourse.
· Itching or burning in the vagina.

If you suspect you have it, your doctor will examine your vagina for signs of thinning or redness. If you are diagnosed with vaginal atrophy, you will most likely be starting on a low dose of estrogen therapy. This generally will relieve your symptoms in a few weeks. Many women have also found relief through natural estrogen replacements. These are plant-based forms of estrogen that are approved by the FDA for human consumption.

In the meantime, you should use lubrication during intercourse in order to avoid teething of the delicate tissue. After a few weeks of hormonal treatments, you should see things return to normal.

While atrophic vaginitis symptoms can be scary and annoying, they are easily treated. Use lubricants for short-term relief, and medical or natural estrogen replacement to solve the problem.

The Symptoms of Avian Human Influenza

Avian is another word for bird. When flu bugs first infect one species and then later infect humans, they are often called by a name that reflects the original animal that carried the virus. Swine and now avian human influence are examples. Whether it is called bird flu or avian influenza, efforts to fight it are the same. In order to fight avian influenza in humans, the public must be aware of the threat and practice good health habits to avoid contamination.

Although wild birds carry the viruses, they do not usually have symptoms. It is domestic birds (chickens, ducks and turkeys) in which avian influenza symptoms cause sickness and sometimes death. The symptoms in domesticated poultry may be mild causing ruffled feathers and low egg production or severe disease that affects multiple organisms and death in 90-100% of flocks in as little as 48 hours. It is believed that the degree of difference in the symptoms is related to the strain of the virus infecting the birds.

Avian human influenza cases are rare. However, 253 confirmed cases have been reported since 2003, according to statistics compiled by the World Health Organization (WHO). 148 deaths worldwide have been attributed to the H5N1 virus, which is why there is a major effort to control and fight avian influenza outbreaks and inform the public about safe handling practices.

Avian human influenza symptoms have been reported in many countries in Asia and the Middle East, but most have occurred in small villages and emerging areas of Indonesia and Vietnam. Most confirmed cases have been resolved from contact with infected domestic birds or contact with surfaces contaminated by the feces and fluids from infected birds. The symptoms of avian human influenza are typical flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough and muscle aches. But, in some confirmed cases the symptoms have included eye infections, pneumonia, severe respiratory diseases, acute respiratory distress and other severe and life-threatening complications. As with poultry, The Center for Disease Control (CDC) believes that the wide range of avian flu symptoms in humans may depend on which strain of avian human influenza virus the person was infected with.

In order to confirm a case of avian human influenza, the patient must have a positive swab from the throat or nose. Or, two separate blood tests most be performed. While highly contagious among birds, avian flu symptoms are not easily transmitted by human to human contact. The only confirmed cases of avian flu caused by contact with an infected person have been among family members who remained in close contact with the person suffering from the symptoms of the bird flu. This is unlike seasonal flu and SARS which are highly contagious viruses among humans. Government officials hope that efforts to control and fight avian influenza will prevent the likelihood that it will mutate into a form that spreads as easily among humans as other forms of the virus, but experts are not sure why viruses like this mutate and are unable to predict what the outcome of avian human influence will be. Health is Wealth – Do You Agree?

I agree whole-heartedly with the saying “Health Is Wealth”. If a person is not healthy then he or she will find it very difficult or even impossible to enjoy life, even though he or she may be very rich.

If I am asked to choose one from two of the following things, which will I prefer: health without wealth, or, wealth without health? Without hesitation I will choose the former. There is no doubt.

Wealth is generally associated with how much money a person has, that is, how rich he is. An uncle of mine is very rich. He has just about everything anyone can hope for, and some things no one dares to hope for. That is how rich he is. He lives in a huge mansion guarded by huge dobermans and sophisticated burglar alarms. He has expensive cars, furniture, paintings and other rich man’s toys. Well, he has everything except good health.

Everywhere he goes he carries with him a bag of medicine. He has to take pills everyday for his weak heart, diabetes and hypertension. He is about sixty years old and has spent his life accumulating wealth. Without doubt he has succeeded in becoming very rich. However he has also succeeded in becoming very unhealthy too. He laments about his lack of health and says that how he wished that he was young and healthy again. Unfortunately, he cannot regain his health again.

This example of wealth without health is not what I want to follow. It is ridiculous to have so much material wealth but being unable to enjoy it. What is the use of money when one has to take so much medicine everyday just to stay alive? How can one enjoy life when one’s body is weakened by disease and pain? No wonder my uncle laments so.

Health without wealth is far better. That is what I have now. I do not have to worry even a bit about what I can eat or do. I eat and do what I like because my body is healthy. Of course I do not abuse it by taking drugs or overexerting myself. I take good care of my body. In that way I stay healthy.

With health I can go about my work with joy. If I become rich, then that is fine. Then again, I may lose my riches, but that is all right too. I can always do the things I enjoy whether I am rich or not. I can play games, swim in the sea, climb hills, eat delicious fruits and appreciate the things of this beautiful Earth. This is indeed wealth – to be healthy and joyous.

Health and Numerology – Problems to Guard Against for Your Life Path

Your health is your most precious commodity. If you new you had a predisposition to certain health problems, wouldn’t you take steps to guard your good health? Numerology can predict certain health problems that you may encounter.

People with a particular Life Path tend to have tendencies for certain kinds of health problems. By calculating your Life Path number, you can learn these potential problems and be on guard for them. And as in many things in Life, forewarned is forearmed.

Life Path Calculation

Your Life Path is your primary number in Numerology. It’s equivalent to your Sun sign in Astrology. You calculate your Life Path by adding together all the digits of your full date of birth, and then repeating the process until you get a single digit. This process is called fadic addition.

For example, actor Johnny Deep was born on June 9th, 1963, so his Life Path is a (7) as shown below.

06-09-1963 = (0 + 6 + 0 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 3) = (34) = (3 + 4) = (7)

Life Path (1) – Leaders

People with this life path are so driven and ambitious that they tend to ignore their physical health. Stress can be a major problem for them. They need to incorporate physical exercise into their lives as a coping mechanism to deal with high stress levels.

Life Path (2) – Cooperators

People with this life path tend to be great worriers. They need to guard against anxiety and the physical symptoms that come with it. Meditation is the ideal natural coping mechanism for these people. Medication may be necessary in extreme cases.

Life Path (3) – Entertainers

People with this life path tend to be generally healthy due to their sunny outlook on life. They need to guard against over indulgence in life’s pleasures. If they party too much, they don’t get enough rest and tire easily. Some self discipline on managing their time is in order.

Life Path (4) – Builders

People with this life path tend to work too hard and have a tendency to have problems sleeping. They need to learn to pace themselves and put their work aside at a reasonable hour. A caring spouse or friend can provide a needed reminder now and then to quit working and relax more.

Life Path (5) – Sellers

People with this life path tend to be easily annoyed by distractions or frustrating situations. They must learn to remain calm and avoid becoming angry or over-stressed. Learning anger management techniques, and turning to things that make them laugh are highly recommended.

Life Path (6) – Teachers

People with this life path tend to be more concerned for others than themselves. They frequently forget the basics of a healthy lifestyle when it comes to their own needs. Reminders from friends and family about the importance of taking care of themselves is useful.

Life Path (7) – Loners

People with this life path tend to live in tune with their bodies, and have few health problems. They have a strong intuition about what they need in terms of diet and exercise to keep themselves in top condition.

Life Path (8) – Warriors

People with this life path tend to be very strong and have great stamina; however the rigors of their combative nature can cause them to over-exert themselves in times of stress at work or play. They need to maintain a well balanced diet to keep their stores of energy up.

Life Path (9) – Humanitarian

People with this life path are very unselfish and tend to neglect their own welfare when those around them need their care. They need to remember to stay well and care for themselves so that they will always be there for others.

Baby Health – Immunization

'Prevention is better than cure' is the basis for the widely propagated immunization program for tiny tots. Perpetually, it is better to avert a disease than to cure it.

Not only do the vaccines protect those who have been administrated the dose, but also the un-vaccinated part of the population. Children who are vaccinated as per the immunization program have a heightened resistance towards potentially life threatening diseases.

The importance of immunization stays put even if your child has been consistently breast fed. Although the immunity boosting antibodies provided your milk are very essential, they do not last longer than a year after his birth.

Also, maternal immunization is not able to deal with more sinister diseases like whooping cough and polio which are also extremely contagious. Due to the world wide campaign for immunization and its significance, certain fatal diseases like small pox have been almost entirely wiped out.

The complete immunization program mostly works on eradicating the disease like Tetanus, hepatitis, whooping cough or pertussis, polio, rubella (German measles), mumps, haemophilus, influenza b and diphtheria.

Certain vaccines provide the child immunity for his entire life span, while others may have to be administrated more than once. When a disease infests itself in the human body, it turns into a battleground between the disease causing organisms (antigens) and our protectors, the antibodies. Our body retaliates against the invaders by rapidly producing antibodies which fight and annihilate the antigens. Vaccines are actually the dwindled or killed form of the pathogens that cause a particular disease. Once inside the body these bacteria or viruses do not harm but invoke the same reaction from it, that is, the rapid production of antibodies. These antibodies then remain active for a lifetime or less, depending on the vaccine.

After vaccination routine side-effects like fever or rash might make your baby little fussy, recommended doses of simple medicines like acetaminophen or ibuprofen will make him feel better. Although the usefulness of vaccines is debated at times, the boons of immunization outweigh any risks by far. Give you baby a lifetime of health and smiles by meticulously following the immunization schedule.
