Swine Flu H1N1 – Do not Get it This Flu Season

The swine flu virus has now been found in more than half of the world, s countries. The first cases which occurred in Mexico actually originated as an infection from pigs. This triggered a slaughter of pigs in some countries which was absolutely unnecessary since the virus while it may have originated from infected pigs is mainly spread by person to person contact. Anyone who is carrying the swine flu virus is a potential threat of infection to all others he comes in close contact with.

A vital question on everyone's mind is how do you protect yourself and your family from being infected with swine flu. With cases of rising especially in Asia and with an expected upsurge of infections in the Northern Hemisphere this flu season, it is imperative that people know how to properly protect themselves. However there is no foolproof way of protection but there are a number of things you can do which will minimize the risk of getting swine flu.

Firstly as we are told repeatedly by the media it is very important to wash your hands frequently. At any time when you have handled items which have been handled by other people you should wash your hands as soon as possible. Better still carry a small bottle of alcohol based hand sanitizer with you and use it whenever you can, t wash your hands. The obvious points where infection may be encountered are door handles, stairway and escalator hand rails, public transit door handles and support rails, counters and tables in fast food establishments and so on. Just a little thought about what you are handling and who may have handled it before you is a good idea.

As far as possible avoid putting your hands to your eyes, nose or mouth after handling anything and don, t handle food with hands that have not been washed or sanitized. Public places where large numbers of people are present are a prime source of airborne infection. When someone who is carrying the H1N1 swine flu virus coughs or sneezes tiny droplets of moisture laden with the virus drift in the air and if inhaled will infect you. Weaving a surgical type mask can help to avoid this if there are a lot of infections in your area. However a surgical mask is only partial protection at best since the virus can pass through it or around it and into your breathing passages.

It is a very good idea to avoid large crowds of people as much as possible. Shop early in the morning when supermarkets and stores have few people in them.Travel on public transit when it is least busy as much as you can. Again just a little thought about how you can best avoid exposure to the virus will go a long way to help in avoiding swine flu infection.

Avoid anyone who is coughing or sneezing in any public place. If someone at your workplace is showing any signs of infection they must be sent home immediately. Knowing them to spread swine flu to fellow employees will only result in more people having to stay home and may actually result in a shortage of manpower in some businesses. This will be minimized by ascertaining that anyone with the slightest sign of infection is immediately removed from the workplace.

Gamma Knife Surgery – Have Brain Surgery, Be Home in Time For Dinner

Gamma Knife Surgery is not really surgery as you know it. There is no knife, no scalpel. Why did they name it Gamma Knife Surgery? Beats me. But I can tell you it's an effective tool. Take it from someone who has had their head opened up more than once. Gamma Knife patients usually waltz out of the hospital the same day and still have their hair. I walked, or rather walked gingerly to my car the week after each of my craniotomies. And my head was shaved which did not qualify me as a fashion diva. So it's worth the effort to see if your brain tumor or brain disorder qualifies for gamma knife surgery.

It is important to note that Gamma Knife (GK) and Cyber Knife are not the same thing. The GK was specifically created, designed and built to treat brain tumors and disorders. The cyber knife was not. There are other distinctions, however, this will focus on the benefits of gamma knife and what to look for in terms of good GK treatment.

Gamma Knife is a life-saving treatment for patients previously considered untreatable

Many brain tumors and disorders that did not qualify as a Gamma Knife procedure in 1999 or 2000 when I had my surgery. But many of those do now. Many who have been diagnosed with inoperable brain tumors or inoperable neurological disorders can be treated with the GK. Patients who could not undergo the risk of a craniotomy now have this as an option.

How does it work?

Basically GK is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that focuses extremely precise cobalt radiation beams on the target area. Patients wear a Collimator, a sort of helmet that has little holes in it. Beams of radiation are focused through these holes in the collimator.

Individual beads are too weak to damage healthy tissue, but very powerful when they simultaneously merge at a single focal point. In particular, GK is a very effective tool in the treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia, a nerve disorder that causes intestinal facial pain.

GK treatment is designed to stop the growth of tumors or lesions, which means that the effect will happen over a period of weeks or months. It is usually more immediate in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. Your doctor will stay in contact with you to assess your progress, which may include follow-up MRI, CT or angiography images to assess the effectiveness.

What can GK be used to treat?

Determining whether or not you are a candidate for GK treatment is up to your doctor or team of doctors. But Gamma Knife treatment has been successfully used for the following:

o Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)

o Benign Brain Tumors – meningiomas, pituitary tumors, acoustic neuromas

o Intracranial tumors

o Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)

o Metastatic brain disease

o Research is being done for Parkinson's, epilepsy, chronic pain & glaucoma

The Advantages of Gamma Knife Surgery

Since there is no incision, the risks of infection, hemorrhage and adverse reactions to anesthesia are minimal. Most patients receive only local anesthesia and a mild sedative. No anesthesia means patients are up and about quicker. Here are other benefits:

o Surrounding tissue is spared from unnecessary radiation.

o Gamma Knife surgery is often more cost-effective because recovery time is reduced. Most patients leave the hospital on the same day as the treatment. (Medicare and most insurance companies cover this treatment.)

o Patients experience little, if any, discomfort during and after this minimally invasive procedure.

What to look for in a Gamma Knife Treatment Center

Not every city has a Gamma Knife Center. So it may mean traveling out of your city or state. So your first step should be to find out what insurance will pay for and if you need to make an appeal for a particular center.

Your doctor's office will often know what centers have good outcomes and experience and can assist in the insurance approval process. If you are having difficulty with insurance approval, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from the originating physician or from the center where you wish to have your treatment.

Here are some other things you might want to look for in a treatment center:

o Physician experience. You want to know that the surgeon performing gamma knife is not out on his maiden voyage.

o A team of specialists and a comprehensive treatment plan. A good center will develop a treatment plan for a patient depending on many factors and may include consults from neurosurgeons, oncologists, interventional radiologists to name a few.

o Look for a center that has more recent technology-a 4th generation or greater. The GK technology has been around a while so it is hard in a prototype state.

o A treatment center than is a Gamma Knife Host site. There is Peace of Mind when you're at a center that sets a standard for Gamma Knife Surgery. The manufacturer designates some centers as "host sites", meaning they are models by which they'd like other centers to follow.

o There is complementary technology available on site. Is there a PET scanner, a CT scanner, Digital angiography, 3DRA, a trilogy? A full suite of neurosurgery and oncology technology means it's a place dedicated to neurological and oncology treatment. It means there are more resources in terms of technology and physician experience.

o Comprehensive treatment plans. You are looking for a center that offers the most possible treatment options in one place. Going from one city to the next is inconvenient and stressful. Not only that, it's unnecessary today. – For example, if you seek treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, you would want to know if they offer gamma knife, medication options, glycerol injections and microvascular decompression.

Twenty years ago, a patient would have had to have divine intervention to leave the hospital the very same day he or she had brain surgery. The gamma knife makes this possible for over 30,000 patients every year. So if you are a candidate for gamma knife, you may not be in the kind of shape it takes to put together a thanksgiving feast, but you can certainly enjoy dinner at home. Even desert if you want.

Seizures: Have You Been Victim Of People's Ignorance

I have suffered from different types of seizures over the years. It does not matter what type of seizure disorder is affecting your life, people's reactions often hurt you more than they think. They often do not realize the importance of their reactions as they are primarily the reflection of their fears and ignorance on the subject.

As a toddler, I started suffering seizures that were later on diagnosed as Epilepsy. This was caused by a brain trauma that happened at birth. I had to take medications that were too strong for me resulting in not remembering years of my life. During this period which lasted for ten years as I was later told that I outgrew Epilepsy because of my body's changes during my teenage years I had to face people's reactions. I may not remember much of this decade but I vividly remember the pain related to the cruel comments, being excluded and especially, the ignorance of some members of my extended family.

You see, in these days, the terms Epilepsy and seizures cave life to uncontrollable fears in people. Some excluded me because they though I was mentally challenge, others thought that if they played with me, they would catch it. Others, like my own grandmother were convinced that I had to pray every night as she thought that I was possessed by an evil spirit as a punishment for my parents' sins. I was also picked on and laughed at by kids because of my lack of coordination and focus. It did not matter, who said nor did what, hurt and these painful memories still break my heart today.

As I later grew out of Epilepsy when I became a teenager, I started to suffer from seizures related to Hyperventilation. I was told that several people that had Epilepsy in the past were affected by this disorder as a result of extreme stress. Well, even my own mother thought that I had Hyperventilation episodes because I was looking for people's attention. Little did she know about the abuse that I enduring at the time.

Then during the first seven years of teaching, I experienced pseudo seizures which are also related to high level of stress and the fact that I was on heavy medications due to a wrong diagnosis of Epilepsy. Later on, I was told by a former principal that if I would look for a teaching position in her school, she would have to turn me down, not because of my teaching skills which she liked but for the fact that people with Epilepsy need to take more sick days than others according to her, which would be costly to the school division. Is not it a great example of discrimination or what?

Finally, since the birth of my youngest child, I have been experiencing some seizures related to my hypoglycemia. As a result, my husband has asked of me not to drive anymore as he is concerned for my safety, my children's and others should I have a seizure while driving. Others seem to think that I am not capable of handling stressful situations very well and tend to underestimate my potential and abilities which can make you feel inadequate at times.

What do I suggest as a solution to this problem? The answer is simple. Let's educate people and provide them with adequate information about any seizure disorder that you may be affected by right now. Ignorance is nobody's friend. It only creates heartache despites people's good intentions. Let's help them avoid hurting your feelings.

Display Fridges in Deli’s

If you own a deli, then the best way to display your products to the consumer would be by using a deli display fridge. Although they are labelled as used in a deli, many other types of business employ these types of display fridge such as sandwich shops, bakeries and any other type of business that needs some sort of refrigerated display space.

The Different Types of Display Fridge

The first type of deli display fridge available is the countertop refrigerator that doubles up as a counter whilst showing off your items to the customer. These types of display counter allow the customer to choice what they would like from one side and the shop assistant can serve from behind the counter top, retrieving the items through a slid door at the back. This is very useful as it only allows the staff access to the goods and this increases hygiene and cleanliness levels.

The second type of deli display fridge is the type that you see up against the wall with a clear front door on it, usually selling bottles of pop or some other item that is visibly seen without the need to open the door. Not only does this continue to keep the items chilled whilst the customer is browsing, but it also saves energy consumption and therefore the cost of your utility bills go down.

The third type of display fridge that you may wish to use in a deli is a bid of a hybrid between the counter top and drinks display fridges. It stands against a wall but has no door on it, just shelving, and they are perfect for keeping pre-packed sandwiches, cakes and chocolate chilled.

Optional Features

Although these are optional features, you would be totally lost without them if they weren’t part of your display fridge set up. The two main items are the ability to adjust shelving and a temperature gauge.

If you are selling different products all the time in your shop, it is vital that you can change the shop displays to suit what you are going to sell. The adjustable shelving feature is also good for keeping your display fridge clean as it allows you to remove shelves and panels from the unit completely.

If you have a temperature gauge built in to the unit then it is a lot easier for your staff to keep a close eye on the temperature without then need to get out the thermometer and leave it for a while so that it shows the true temperature of the fridge. This is a basic precaution in food hygiene and is one of the first things that local shop inspectors look at when checking out whether the shop is carrying out its duties to customers.

Freezer Apartments

If you find that your business will benefit from the use of freezer space but you don’t what to pay for a separate freezer then many manufacturers offer up dual freezer / fridge counter top display units. They will be exponentially more expensive than just a simple display fridge but the benefits to your business could be massive, depending on what you are offering to your customer.

Warranties

If you are spending a lot of money on an expensive product then it is always useful to know the warranty information. The main warranty will of course be from the manufacturer of the product and anything that goes wrong within the warranty period will mean that the manufacturer will repair or replace this unit. Sometimes it makes good business sense to extend those warranties, either with the manufacturer, retailer or some other third party in case of breakdown. Although it is another monthly cost, you have to bear in mind that if your fridge goes down for just one day, the business you lose because of it could be massive. It should always be a consideration!

Types of Glass Display Cabinets

Glass display cabinets are used as storage and display place for trophies and souvenirs. The display cabinets are made from combination of glass and wood. The base of the cabinet is built from wood and the front is made from glass. Cherry wood and oak are the ideal choice of material for building a glass cabinet. 7 Stages of Cancer Development

You must have heard of this statistic that out of every 3 of us, one of us will get cancer. But do you know that back in 1901, only 1 in 8,000 got cancer? Our body actually tries in so many ways to give us all the warnings and symptoms to tell us that something is not right and we need to do something about it!

Let us see from the Holistic Health Science point of view how cancer develops in 7 stages.

First stage, Enervation.

It is not recognized as a disease yet. Most people will just feel tired, exhausted and worn-out at this stage. The best way to recover from enervation is to get enough sleep as sleep is the greatest energy charger! Inadequate sleep and rest are the main causes of enervation.

Second stage, Toxemia or intoxication.

Toxemia is a state where toxins saturate our body. This happens when we fail to observe our capacities and ignore the symptoms of enervation. We continue to overwork, sleep late and are under great stress.

Third stage, Irritation is when we feel itchy and uncomfortable, or when we have irritating but not painful areas.
Irritation results from toxic substances being sensed by our nervous system. Our body is giving us signal to move away from this condition.

Fourth stage, Inflammation.

It’s only at this stage that doctors recognize it as disease as it involves pain. Maybe you’ve experienced this before: you completely lost your appetite; and you don’t feel hungry at all even you’ve not been eating for the whole day, all you want to do is just to sleep and rest! Sounds familiar? The area becomes inflamed due to the continuous irritation of toxic substances. Appendicitis (appendix), tonsillitis (tonsils), hepatitis (liver) and nephritis (kidney) are all inflammation but in different areas.

Fifth stage, Ulceration.
Our body use ulcer as a way to drain toxic built-up, it will heal if causes are stopped. Cells and tissue structures are being damaged due to our body’s inability to live in increasing toxin.

Sixth stage, Induration, or often called tumor formation.

Induration is the process where our tissue hardened so that ulcer and toxic materials can be kept inside and sealed off by the hardening of the tissue around them. This is a way of quarantining the toxins. This shows how our body tries so hard to protect us even at this stage! However, if we continue with our destructive lifestyles and diet patterns, our body will eventually dissolve the hard tissue when the toxin level is so high and it can no loner take it! This means the toxins will leak and circulate to other parts of the body, and that leads to cancer…

Final stage, Cancer.
Our cells have become parasitic at this stage. Cancer is usually fatal, it can ONLY be reversible with the condition of us stopping the causes and indulge in healthful practices, as healthful practices are the universal panacea!

Eye Myopia Myth – The Truth About Near-Sightedness

Eye myopia, or near-sightedness, as it is often called, is one of the most common and annoying eye ailments.

It is due to muscular imbalance. The myopic eyeball is elongated by pressure of the two oblique muscles which bind the eyeball about the middle. Because of the tightness of these muscles, the parallel rays of light are brought to a focus at a point in front of the retina. The result is blurred, distorted vision when trying to see a distant object. Myopia, in other words, involves a strain to see at the far point and it is our task to stretch the vision.

When the eyes are fitted with lenses, the light rays focus on the retina as in normal vision. But-since the shape of the eyeball remains unchanged-the cause of the difficulty is not remedied. On the contrary, the eyeball becomes more elongated as time goes on, and lenses must be made stronger and stronger to counteract the increasing myopia of the eye.

Myopia usually appears in school children between the ages of eight and fifteen. The reason appears to be that during puberty the child's physical and nervous system is undergoing such drastic changes that the anxieties and fears often accomplicing the confinement and competition of the school room create an entirely new series of strains.

These strains, in turn, are potent factors in the development of myopia and other visual defects. The effort to see words on the blackboard, fear of being unable to solve the problem as quickly as Mary or Johnny, dread of failure-all of these elements give rise to certain mental and physical tensions that, more often than not, result in the child's inability to see what is on the blackboard.

The result is that the child begins to strain to see, to develop a stooping post as he crouches lower and lower over his book or trips with head down, trying to see the sidewalk. He develops heads and nervous habits. Half-closing his eyes, he squints in an appeavor to clear his vision.

Little by little he begins to reveal the emotional characteristics of eye myopia. He withdraws from competitive games and places by himself. He draws into his shell, contented with his contracted world. He emerges from it only reluctantly and after persistent effort on the part of his anxious parents.

Too often the well-intentioned parents hustle the child off to the ophthalmologist who fits him with glasses. It is always an unpleasant sight to observe a child's face behind spectacles. Automatically, they cut him off from many games and forms of exercise which the growing body needs. But away from that, the vision generally gets worse and the glasses are increased in strength until, some ten or fifteen years later, the patient's eyes have lost much of their power of accommodation. The nerves and muscles of the eyes, depending on their glasses, have lost all flexibility of movement.

Because every part of the body reacts on every other, it is important-especially so with myopia-to check on your posture. This business of stooping over as you walk and bending forward as you read does not help you to see. Actually, it impedes vision because the cramped neck muscles cut off the circulation of blood to the brain and the eyes.

Another effect of the stooping posture of myopes is that it promises to create an attitude of inferiority and failure. With your head bent down and your eyes peering up you are constantly in the physical position of a person looking up at a situation which is too big for him. Naturally, this creates a sensation of inadequacy.

Stand erect and look straight ahead. It gives you a new focus. You see better because you have the proper circulation to the eyes, and along with it you have gained a feeling of confidence. The situation is not too big for you-you are now on a physical par with it.

Relaxation exercises for the eyes can also often help improve eye myopia.

Getting Help For Ringing Ears With Lipoflavonoid

People always ask if there is a cure for Tinnitus. Tinnitus, or commonly known as ringing of the ears, makes sufferers hear many different sounds like hissing, buzzing, clicking, swishing, booming, and ringing. It is caused by the dislocation, damaged or infection of the cochlear canal or part of the middle ear which stabilizes the entrance of air and balances pressure inside our brain.

Drug companies along with medical scientists have long been engaged in coming up with products that can reverse the effect of Tinnitus. They have been quite successful but not enough to bring back normal hearing to some sufferers. Fortunately, there are alternative nutritional supplements such as Lipoflavonoid that can help in the treatment of tinnitus and also in repairing damaged parts of the inner ear. They are actually health supplements in the form of multi-vitamins that can increase circulation of blood and nutrients to the inner ear.

Doctors and researchers have discovered that lipoflavonoid can really help improve the circulatory system of the inner ear particularly ears of people who are suffering from Meniere’s disease. This disease is characterized by vertigo, deafness or ringing of ears. Since then, doctors recommend this nutritional formulation to patients suffering from this disease.

Today, capsules of lipoflavonoid contain Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex, niacin, panthothenic acid, choline, bioflavonoids with erioditryol glycoside and inositol. This fortification makes this multi-vitamin complete and more powerful in alleviating symptoms as well as an effective aid in the treatment of Tinnitus.

God, the Supernatural Healer

A missionary lady was sitting by her window as she opened her mail. In one letter she found a crisp, new, ten-dollar bill. She was pleasantly surprised, but then she noticed a poorly dressed stranger leaning on a post by her window. She could not get him off her mind. Thinking that he might be in greater need than her, she slipped the bill into an envelope and wrote "Do not despair". She handed the envelope through the window to the man. He read the note, smiled, tipped his hat and walked away.

The next day she heard a knock at the door. There the same man handed her a roll of bills. When she asked what they were, he said, "That's your sixty bucks, lady! 'Do not despair" paid five to one! "

The Old Testament reading from 2 Kings 5: 1-14 is a classic example of the conflict between man's way of doing things and God's way of doing things. Naaman wanted to be healed, but in his own way. He wanted Elisha to come out and perform some sort of healing ritual. He wanted to wash in rivers of his own choosing. When he did not get his way, he reacted like a small child does when it does not get its own way-he had a temper tantrum. It took the words of someone insignificant to convince Naaman to humble himself and submit to God's plan. All of us are lepers who need God's healing touch, but sometimes we can not see beyond our successes and shortcomings and realize that we need to be healed.

Leprosy was significant in the Bible for several reasons:

1. The leper was considered to be unclean and had to be isolated form the rest of society. Whenever he went out, he had to cry "unclean", and he had to wear black with a hood covering his face. He also had to live outside the city walls.

2. Leprosy was incurable in Bible times just as sin is incurable by man.

3. When Jesus healed a leper he always pronounced the person cleansed, not healed.

4. The rite of purification in the Old Testament only recognized the fact that a leper was clean. It did not cure the leper.

5. Leprosy begins on the outside and then erupts on the skin. Sin also begins with what we are and then erupts on the surface.

6. The priest was to examine the leper and pronounce the person clean or unclean depending on his observation of the facts. Since Christ has provided cleansing from sin, every believer as a believer priest is to detect sin in their own life and pronounce it as sin when it first appears.

7. The pain of leprosy was not severe because it also killed the nerves in the affected area. Portions of the body became numb, muscles wasted away and fingers and toes developed ulcers. Sin is like that. We are dead spiritually, so we do not feel the pain of our sin.

8. The leper was often considered to be dead, and people without Christ are nothing more than spiritual zombies.

9. Leprosy and sin occurs regardless of one's position, power, honor, possessions or wealth.

10. The restoration of the leper is a metaphor for the restoration of us to God when we accept him in faith.

11. Leprosy destroys the body, and sin destroys our relationship with Christ.

God does not work according to our ideas or plans. In fact, there is an old joke that goes, "How do you make God laugh? Tell him your plans". When we let God tell us what to do, we will be cleansed from our sins. When we follow God's plan for our lives instead of our own plans, we will be cleansed from our sins.

Believe it or not, God gave Naaman his victories. It was part of the greater purpose to reveal God's power and mercy to Naaman the foreigner. It shows that God is for everyone- both Jews and Gentiles. It foreshadows the opening of the Gospel to the Gentiles in the Book of Acts.

God often speaks through humble people. He used the Israeli slave girl to lead Naaman to Elisha-the first step in his healing. He used the soldier to convince Naaman to obey Elisha's orders-the second step in his healing. Elisha was also humble. He did not use any of his powers to heal Naaman-God did. Elisha did not even leave his house to meet Naaman in person. Humble people are used by God at any time and in any place he chooses and in any way he chooses.

God also acts through simple acts of obedience that do not seem to be related to the problem. For example, washing seven times in the Jordan River might not seem to be related to Naaman's leprosy. The solution called for faith. The faith began with the little servant girl when she innocently assumed God's power. Because of the girl's faith, Naaman's wife told her husband, and he told the king. Naaman had his doubts, but he went. His servants had more faith, because they convinced Naaman to try Elisha's remedy.

This story also shows how our intentions can be misunderstood by others. Naaman introduced himself to the king of Israel as both a courtesy and the belief that the king had the power to heal Naaman. The king knew that he did not have the power to heal anyone and saw Naaman's request as an excuse to start war between Israel and Syria. You see, according to the custom at that time, the main object of a letter was the only item mentioned in letters that were delivered in person. Other issues were discussed in person. There was also a belief that if a king or other sacred person touched or washed his hand over a sore, the sore would be healed. (Pause)

The story of Naaman the leper is a story of salvation. Naaman's healing led him to believe in God and worship God. It is a picture of what God would do later on through Jesus Christ. It is a picture of what man was like before sin took its toll. Elisha knew that it was God's power that owed Naaman, not Elisha's.

Today, we, like Naaman, will do anything spectacular to ensure our salvation. We suffer, build churches, give money, or sacrifice privileges when all we have to do is wash in the blood of Jesus and receive his gift of eternal life. Because the plan is so simple, many of us turn away as Naaman did and refuse the greatest of all gifts.

Naaman's healing ritual was a step down for him in more ways than one. It was a step down from toxic success to new health and life. Naaman's skin became like the skin of a little child, and his heart found new life. Some of us probably know people who have been victims of their own success. Perhaps we have been victims of our own success. These people have gone from the top of the ladder to the bottom, sometimes yanked down a step, sometimes moving more or less at will.

Elisha was a wise man. He knew that Naaman's healing was not simply a cure for his leprosy. Naaman needed to submit, know his weakness and dependence on others, expand his view of who was connected to his life, get naked and humble, and let go and die to his old self. God's free grace is for everyone. It's too simple to deal with our sin and guilt (or so we think), so we punish ourselves. We, like Naaman, are at times due to accept God's free gift. We, like Naaman, must be committed to see our cleaning through.

Being made whole is something else. It is to be changed or transformed. It is to know that God is at work in our lives. It is to be welcomed by joy. It is to be enveloped by a peace that passes all understanding. It is to know an uncontrollable joy. It is to know the power of God's grace in our lives. It is to respond with thanks, gratitude and laughter.

Naaman was healed of his leprosy, but he was also healed of his identity as a warrior. When he accepted his weakness and dependency on someone else, when he realized that he could not live his whole life by only trusting in himself, when he met the God who is well beyond his control and manipulation, Naaman discovered his true healing and his transformation into a whole man who can let go and trust others and God.

God overturns our human expectations and imposed limitations and breaks into our world with healing and new life. God chooses to make all things clean. It involves clearing pride, dignity and authority from the path. There is little room for things as they should be or for those whose self-adequacy closes them off to God's healing help. That may be surprising, upsetting and world changing for us. It is also a little threatening as it involves radical personal and social changes.

How do we respond to people who come to us for help? Do we ignore them? Do we listen to them and then send them on their way instead of helping them? Do we just throw money at the problem by making a donation or do we lower ourselves like Naaman did and actually do something to help them? If we actively receive them like Elisha received Naaman, we will have responded with God's love and we will have received a gift to us through them where we can fulfill his call to show love, mercy and forgiveness to all.

If we obey God, that does not mean he will pay off five to one like the horse in the story at the beginning of my sermon, but he will bless us with many blessings, he will not be in debt to us for long, he will return even greater gifts and he will reward us.

SPG Nerve Block – A New Treatment That Gives Instant Relief for Migraines and Headaches

It is very common in people to experience headaches and migraines. The persistent nature of such kind of pain can cause exhaustion and disability. If you experience these for a long time, you may have to undergo steady, long-term treatment. But worry not; there is also a treatment that provides effective relief in an instant.

There is a new revolutionary treatment that offers instant relief for migraines and headaches without using pills or injections. The Sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) nerve block uses a unique nasal applicator to safely and painlessly eliminate the pain. Other than headaches and migraines, SPG nerve block has been providing successful relief to a variety of conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia and fibromyalgia.

SPG nerve block is a procedure that involves application of a topical anesthetic to the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) in the back of the sinus area. The nasal applicator has a plastic delivery tube that is soft and flexible so that it can comfortably extend to the back of the nasal cavity and place the anesthetic liquid right where it should be applied. It has a small flexible tip designed to help reduce irritation to the nasal lining. In the nasal cavity, the anesthetic liquid is sprayed directly onto the group of SPG nerves.

Also known as nasal ganglion, the SPG nerve is an internal part of the head located behind the nose and sinus area and near the throat. It is where neurons in the head are largely collected. SPG is also covered by a thin layer of connective tissues and mucous membrane.

The nasal ganglion plays a role in causing pain associated with acute and cluster headaches, migraines, trigeminal neuralgia, facial pain and more due to such a wide reach that the nerves from SPG expand to.

SPG nerve block is being performed by placing the plastic tube of the nasal applicator through one or both the nostrils to apply the anesthetic. The anesthetic then works on the ganglion area to relieve multiple head and facial pain conditions. This procedure is done as an outpatient.

The SPG nerve block helps in eliminating pain from a variety of head and face conditions such as acute and cluster headaches, migraines, shingles, head and neck cancer pain, reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, Sluder’s neuralgia, vasomotor rhinitis, and atypical facial pain.

Studies show that SPG nerve block is an excellent treatment for acute and chronic facial and head pain. In a 2009 study, SPG radiofrequency treatment had very high satisfactory results for patients with cluster headaches. Other studies showed that the treatment worked excellently for head and neck cancer pain and for chronic vasomotor rhinitis. It provided overwhelming relief and reduced the need for narcotic medication.

Obtaining relief for migraines and headaches is easy and need not to be painful. For someone who wants to easily get rid of chronic headache or severe migraine, SPG nerve block may just be the answer. This quick treatment needs no toxic medications. With SPG nerve block it only takes few moments to resume your normal lifestyle and live pain-free for the rest of your life.

Who Has Epilepsy?

Although epilepsy can start at any point during a person's life, most epilepsy is diagnosed in childhood, and most of all in the first year of life – around 140 out of every 100,000 babies under the age of one are diagnosed with epilepsy per year. This drops to 40 adults per 100,000. However, recent reports have shown that epilepsy is increasing in older people, who account for a quarter of all new diagnoses, according to a survey by the National Society for Epilepsy. The condition is twice as common in older people as it is in the population as a whole.

It may be even more common than is documented, because some of it probably goes unrecognized. Diagnosing epilepsy in the elderly can be difficult. In many cases the seizures are mild, and, while this is excellent news in terms of control, it may also mean that it's not so easy to spot them for what they are. Aunt Alice's daydreaming, Gran's 'funny turns', may form part of family folklore and certainly not be seen to warrant medical investigation. We tend to expect illness and absent-mindedness in older people as a matter of course. However, epilepsy in later life may well be among the more preventable cases of the condition. The older we get, the moreiable we become to reduced fitness and health, but, in particular, epilepsy in the older person is often due to cerebrovascular disease which leads to small scars in the brain. In general, the risk of epilepsy in older people may be reduced with proper attention to lifestyle, including healthy eating, enough exercise, not smoking, and drinking alcohol moderately. Paying attention to lifestyle issues may help people of any age gain better seizure control and improve general health, and may also prevent your epilepsy getting worse in older age.

Epilepsy is divided almost evenly between the sexes, though a few epilepsy syndromes occurs exclusively in girls. Epilepsy is slightly more common in men, and there are various reasons why this may be so. One reason is that men are more likely to suffer head injury and brain infection. Another theory is that the brains of boy and girl babies develop differently in the womb due to differences in male and female sex hormones. The brain matures more quickly in girl babies than boy ones, so that girls are less vulnerable to perinatal anoxia (lack of oxygen around birth) which can damage developing areas of the brain. The Y chromosome which produces maleness in unborn infants also slows development down, so that boys are born around two to three weeks behind in marriage than girls, so making them more vulnerable to injury. This vulnerability persists into adulthood – one study showed that, in women, 50 per cent of the risk of developing epilepsy was past by the time they were 19, but in men, this did not happen until they were 24. This risk is thought to outweigh men's larger brain size. Another study showed that the brains of men and women only became the same size when they are 100, when they have both shrunk enough to be similar! There is some evidence that the prognosis or outlook is slightly worse in women, and it has been suggested that this is because women's brains are tougher, a more severe event is needed to precipitate the epilepsy. But, in practice, most of these differences are slight – again, each person with epilepsy representations an individual case, and should be treated as such.

Despite its high prevalence, epilepsy, traditionally the 'Cinderella' of the health service, contributions little by way of research money – out of the UK's annual £ 2 billion medical research budget only £ 336,000 is spent on epilepsy, less than £ 1 per person with epilepsy, and comparing unfavorably with say the £ 250 per person with muscular dystrophy and £ 140 per person with multiple sclerosis.

A recent survey of health managers in the UK revealed that only 5 per cent had set service standards for epilepsy. However, this may change as epilepsy achieves greater media coverage and public interest, something which is taking place – over the past few years, according to the National Society for Epilepsy, epilepsy has become an 'interesting' subject as genetic research and modem brain- scanning methods reveal more about the condition.

Help For the Alopecia Sufferer

Although alopecia [al-oh-PEE-shah] is a common disease, its name is not widely known, and even though it is not life-threatening, it's sporadic nature and tendency towards recurrence often has considerable psychological effects on the alopecia sufferer. Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss or baldness. It is the name which designates the reliably redundant and early fall out of hair that appears previously weakened by follicular obstruction. While in come cases there can be no cure, many times new treatment options offer hope for the alopecia sufferer.

Hair Loss

While previous estimates on what substances 'normal' hair loss have been quoted as high as 100 to 150 hairs a day, recent studies show that number should actually be closer to 35 to 40 hairs a day. Yet what concerns us here is not the normal shedding of the hair, but rather abnormal hair loss, also known as alopecia. By the age of thirty-five, some forty percent of both men and women show some degree of hair loss. Partial or complete re-growth of hair can follow, but permanent loss of hair can occur when the roots of the hairs are severely damaged. Forms of this disease should be studied so that the alopecia sufferer can work towards a solution for their hair loss.

Types of Alopecia

Traction alopecia is a common cause of hair loss due to pulling forces exerted on the scalp hair. Traction alopecia is more common in women than in men because women are more involved with hairstyling practices such as braiding or chemical hair straightening, and they are more likely to use tight curlers and nylon brushes and to wear chignons or buns. Female pattern alopecia or baldness is less common than male pattern alopecia. Male and female pattern baldness is usually a genetic condition, although female pattern alopecia rarely leads to total loss of hair. The loss of hair from this type mostly starts at the front, the sides or on the top of the head. The hair loss from alopecia areata is typically seen in patches on the head and or body. Alopecia areata monolocularis means that hair loss occurs in one spot only, usually on the head. Alopecia areata multilocularis means that hair loss occurs in several spots, and loss may not be limited to the head. It can progress to the complete loss of hair from the head (called alopecia totalis) and can even spread to result in loss of all hair on the head and body. Called alopecia universalis, it is a severe form of alopecia areata. This alopecia sufferer experiences permanent loss of all body hair, including eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair in the pubic area and armpits. Toxic alopecia is characterized by the temporary loss of hair and is caused by an overuse of medications or some vitamins, or is bought on by certain diseases such as thyroid or postpartum disorders. Diffuse alopecia is the term for loss of hair after acute chronic systemic diseases, emotional stress, febrile illness or childbirth. Another common form of hair loss, postpartum alopecia is caused by hormonal changes during the course of a pregnancy. There is usually very little sign of these changes during the pregnancy itself, but rather a sudden and very excess loss of hair from three to nine months after the birth of the child. While this hair loss is often very traumatic for the new mother and alopecia sufferer, the hair growth cycle typically returns to normal within a year after the end of the pregnancy. Alopecia is a condition that is not limited to humans only, as it can also affect your cat or dog. As you can see there can be many types of alopecia sufferer.

Causes of Alopecia

Many autoimmune diseases, like lupus and AIDS can cause hair loss. An alopecia sufferer may have experienced mental or physical trauma. Those suffering from eczema may experience some hair loss as well. Vigorous combing and chemical bleaches and styling products can additionally irritate the scalp to cause further hair loss or it may be caused by the use of hair dryers, combs or any other heated metallic element capable of generating lesions on the scalp. Alopecia may occur because of nerve disorders, congenital abnormalities of the hair, genetic factors, heredity, alteration of the immune system, injuries and thyroid problems. Some medications like thallium, high doses of vitamin A and retinoid also cause a type of alopecia.

Treatments for the Alopecia Sufferer

As an alopecia sufferer , you should always discuss any medical treatment with your Health Care Provider. Physicians, especially dermatologists, must recognize this condition early to prevent irreparable hair loss. A professional will be able to advise you as to whether your condition will go away on its own, stop if you discontinue use of certain medications or end a habit, or if you can help yourself with a system of treatment. The most effective treatment is now available for purchase and use in the home. It consist of scalp hygiene products, nutritional supplements and a personal low level light laser brush that stimulates hair growth. Always buy from a reputable dealer that has FDA approval and a guarantee program.

The Homeopathic Treatment of Otitis Media

When you go searching for a holistic treatment of otitis media, do not skip over homeopathy. Homeopathy is one of the most effective treatments of all and any kind. It is wholly natural and holistic. It only works by improving your immune system. And the only reason for disease is because either you do not yet have an immune system (as in babies and toddlers), or yours is shot to pieces. Or moving toward that unenviable position.

Then you will get many health problems, which will recur endlessly or just will not go away.

There are many medicines that can be used in the homeopathic treatment of otitis media, but Hepar sulphuris is one of the most common.

To be effective, the symptoms of the personal otitis media should be a close match to the potentially effective homeopathic medicine. If you can not see this match, then it's illegally that the medicine will do any good.

Let's have a look at the keynotes of Hepar sulph:

  • the most important symptom is the exquisite pain that the patient suffers – the child will shriek and can not be comforted
  • the pain is worse at night
  • the pain is worse for cold, such as cold weather or especially a cold wind blowing into it

There may or may not be a discharge. If there is, it is normally yellowy in color and smells offensive – rather like rotten cheese. If the discharge is internal, there can be a host of potentially dangerous problems. If the discharge leaks into the brain, there is no capacity for the brain to expand to accommodate it. So brain symptoms can develop.

Apart from the dangers, you do not want to see someone in so much pain. And I'm sure you'd like to get back to bed and sleep sooner rather than later. Keep Hepar sulph handy for the effective treatment of otitis media, one which is characterized by the hyper sensitivity to pain.

A Parental Guide On How To Raise Your Child The Correct Way

There may be a sentence in this next paragraph that will either elate you or deflate you but you have to stand by it as the answer to the question. There is no correct way.

Yup, that's it. Your mother / father did it her way, got a couple of things wrong. Your local shop keepers mother / father made mistakes. That bloke across the street looking at jewelery in the window for his wife, his mother / father, now and again, got lost and confused. The leader of your favorite political party's mother / father sat in total frustration not knowing why their baby was crying. The great leaders of the world's mothers or fathers worried about whether they were doing the right thing. Am I getting this across yet?

On the whole as one body of parental animals, we worry about our little people. Even if the perfect parent exists out there they may be trying to bring up the most imperfect child that making their little person have the most unhappy childhood.

The best advice I have ever taken is … let your child be who they want to be. Trust in the fact that they are quite capable of becoming that which is best for them. This may be quite the opposite of what you desire or expect but, at the end of the day this is not your life it is THEIRS. By all means love, care and guide but guide only if requested.

The truth of the matter is us parents as a whole sometimes forget that children are after all sentient beings that will learn to walk, talk and just be, all in their own time. There is no medal or badge of honor given to those babies that crawl the earliest or talk their words at the youngest age, they just …. do and good for them. On the flip side there are some children that do not crawl until well after 8 months … but they do.

Yes, of course at a young and tender age they will want to be Superman, Fairies, Knights, Princesses, Wrestlers, Ballet Dancers or just invisible and why not? I have a friend who daughter wanted to go to playschool in her fairy outfit every day, so rather than making her conform to what everyone else dressed like, she let her daughter do just that. This little girl has now grown up and guess what, she does not walk around in a fairy outfit, she is a wonderful artistic little being who is at peace with the world and does not judge as in her mind everyone has the right to their own individuality and, if they so choose to wander round the streets in a fairy outfit then good for them!

Having faith in your child's personal ability is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. I met a man in Australia many years ago who had disabilities from birth, his parents were told that he would never be able to walk and would never reach past the mental age of a 5 year old. His parents refused to believe this, and always trusted in the fact that their son, despite his disabilities, would grow up to have a normal and fulfilled life.

I met this man at a friend's house. He was in his early thirties and was sitting next to the pool his walking stick to his left. He had become a molecular bio-chemist, well that was his second degree he was in-fact working in the hospital as their leading gynecologist. Not only was he a brilliant man, but incredibly funny and wonderful company. He sat and told me how much respect he had for his parents as they refused to put him in a "special" school and admitted he went to the local mainstream school even though they knew he might get bullied because of his deformities, but trusted in him and trusted in the fact that he would be fine. And, he was.

The famous author Napoleon Hill wrote about the story of his son Blair, who was born without ears that were told their son was a deaf mute. He describes how …… "the outlook was far from encouraging but DESIRE BACKED BY FAITH knows no such word as impossible …."

And through a series of events he learnt to hear and speak. Blair went to college, stumbled across a hearing aid that worked for him when he was 18, wrote to the company to thank them which lead him to obtain a position within the company reaching out to thousands of thousands of people showing them the technology which in turn helped them.

So, Napoleon Hill writes that although he was told his child may never hear or speak, through his belief in his son, his son endeavored and succeeded in doing both. Blair was later tested by Dr Irvine Voorhees, a specialist who was astounded at how well he could hear and speak, even though an x-ray showed there was no opening in Blairs skull from where his ears should be to his brain.

He put faith in his son, and trusted in the fact that his son would succeed.

Another thing to ponder when thinking about your childrens abilities to understand is how much information a child learners in one month of school, the maths, English, languages, history, science etc., how quickly they learn to play, skip, draw etc. Then you worry about their ability to walk down a flight of stairs! It just does not add up does it.

Recently I was at a skate park with my daughter, while she was whizzing merrily about I heard mothers telling their boys "be careful", "look out" etc. Immediately when you are told to be careful you are looking out for danger, as soon as you focus on danger, you are going to find it, as soon as you find it, it's going to hurt. How about just saying "go and have the best fun you can have" rather than taking all the fun out of the skate park! If you are careful while learning to BMX or skate or board you are not going to get very far. You have to trust in the fact your child will learn how to avoid the dangers.

Children by definition naturally take risks, they do this the moment they decide to flip over onto their fronts and crawl. So at the tender age of / XX / XXX amount of months they were allowed to flip over and crawl, so why not let them, when they want to flip about on a bike / roller blades or whatever just let them try it without pointing out the dangers. Babies do not understand danger this is why they are less likely to hurt themselves when they fall over. Adults expect pain and tension when falling and this is why more adults than children sustain more injury in a fall.

So to sum up, there is no right way to bring up your child, everyone does it differently but one thing is for sure if you trust in the fact your child will be OK, then, they will be. Love them eternally, forgive their mistakes and believe that they will be the best that they can be. Most importantly of all let your child be happiest when they are being themselves.

Swine Flu Virus

A Swine Flu virus has health officials around the world working to contain the growing outbreak. One out of every five residents of Mexico's most populous city wore masks to protect them against the virus as Mexico City appeared to be the epicenter of the outbreak. As many as 103 deaths have been attributed to the swine flu so far with many more feared to be on the horizon. The health department of Mexico said an additional 1,614 reported cases have been documented.

So far, however, only 18 of the deaths in Mexico have been confirmed by laboratory tests to be from swine flu virus and reported to the World Health Organization as such.

In the US preparations have been upgraded for a possible swine flu virus outbreak after 20 cases were reported, also the first cases of the virus was reported in Canada on Sunday – six mild cases.

Swine flu or Swine Influenza is a contagious respiratory sickness that is normally only found in pigs. It is caused by a type-A influenza virus. Outbreaks in pigs occur year-round. The current strain is a new variation of an H1N1 virus, which is a mix of human and animal versions.

Normaly the swine flu virus only spreads from animal to person containing the spread but when the flu spreads person-to-person, it can continue to mutate, making it harder to combat because people have no natural immunity.

The symptoms are similar to the common flu. They include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Learn more about swine flu and how to treat it in the link below.

The swine flu virus spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes around another person. People can become infected by touching something with the flu virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose or eyes.

Calling it a "public health emergency of international concern" the World Health Organization (WHO) is very concerned. The WHO also says a public health emergency is an occurrence or imminent threat of illness or health conditions caused by bioterrorism, epidemic or pandemic disease, or highly fatal infectious agents or toxins that pose serious risk to a significant number of people.

Swine Flu Virus Protection?

Advice of health experts is to follow common-sense instructions: Wash your hands, stay home if you're sick and listen to your local health authorities. Advice from the CDC about the situation is, "Very frequent hand-washing is something that we talk about time and time again and that is an effective way to reduce transmission of disease,". They also advise, "If you're sick, it's very important that people stay at home. you should not get on an airplane or another public transport to travel. Those things are part of personal responsibility in trying to reduce the impact. "

Swine Flu Symptoms

It is also noted that swine flu symptoms are relatively general and nonspecific. "So many different things can cause these symptoms." It is a dilemma, "says one doctor interviewed by CNN. "It is a challenge that we are wrestling with. There is not a perfect test right now to let a doctor know that a person has the Swine Flu." It has been noted that most individuals with Swine Flu had an early on set of fever. Also it was common to see dizziness, body aches and vomiting in addition to the common sneezing, headache and other cold symptoms.

If you become sick and notice early sunset of body aches, vomiting and dizziness you should consult with your doctor immediately. Although it is very unlucky that you have the Swine Flu virus, you should get medical confirmation just to be safe.

This Swine Flu virus outbreak could have been very dangerous epidemic or just another bump in the road. Health professionals are still trying to figure out where exactly the virus originated, how transmissible it is and why it is mild in some cases and deadlier in others. In the mean time. Wash your hands, use common sense and be on a heightened alert to signs and symptoms of the Swine Flu virus. See you doctor if any unusual flu like symptoms occurrence.
