If you become ill, stay home and stay there for at least 24 fever-free hours without the aid of medications

Improve your immune system by eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep and exercising regularly

Keep updated on the availability of the H1N1 vaccine, and get your seasonal flu vaccination as soon as it's available

H1N1 flu symptoms are much like other flu viruses: fever, cough, sore throat, runny / stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have also reported diarhea and vomiting. It's important to remember that the H1N1 flu is still the flu and panicking will not help anyone. No, you can not catch it from eating pork and no, racing to the nearest emergency room is not necessary. As a matter of fact, a visit to the emergency room could have exposed you to the very germs you should avoid. If you are seriously worried, always call your doctor's office first and listen to their instructions. You should especially call your doctor if your fever is unusually high or has lasted longer than three days, if you're having difficulties breathing or producing fluid, if your fever returns after a few days, or if you've developed dark spots on your hands or mouth.

What is Swine Flu?

Swine flu or swine influenza is a disease common in swine, with normal flu-like symptoms, but caused by any strain of the swine influenza virus (SIV – virus endemic in pigs). Although rare in humans, individuals with greater exposure to swine could contract swine influenza if the swine are carrying the particular rare strain of the SIV that is capable of affecting humans. Even then, it is a rare occurrence for the strain to be able to pass from human to human. This could occur if the SIV is able to mutate into a form that can easily be transmitted among humans.

The swine flu outbreak of 2009 is believed to be caused by such a mutated strain of the SIV. The current outbreak is called swine flu only because one of the surface proteins of the tested virus is similar to the one which infects pigs. It is still unknown if this is currently infecting pigs though it's clearly spreading among people, leading the World Health Organization to raise the Phase 4 pandemic alert. This new strain responsible for the outbreak has been found to be a re-assortment of strains of the influenza A virus subtype H1N1. These strains are separately endemic in humans and in swine.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir) would help in treatment and prevention. Antiviral drugs, if started within two days of the manifestation of symptoms, succeed in reducing the severity of the symptoms, preventing further complications, and hastening cure. The most effective method of prevention is to wash hands frequently with soap or with a foam or alcohol-based gel hand wash that helps wipe away bacteria and viruses. Vaccines against the 2009 H1N1 strain outbreak are in the development stage and are expected to be ready by June 2009.

Diseases Caused by Helminths

Diseases caused by Helminths are simply referred to as Heminthiasis and are common in the society today. It is estimated that more than 3 billion people live with helminths across the world. Heminthiasis refer to infections caused by parasites such as pin worms and wound worms. Normally, these worms target the intestinal tract, although an increase in number may force some of the worms to invade organs such as lungs and the heart.

The severity of the diseases caused by Helminths depends on the type of worm, as well as the affected body part. While in the intestinal tract, helminthes may cause abdominal pains, which may characterize stomach discomfort, cramps and stomach tenderness. Diarrhea is also a common symptom of helminthes. Other diseases caused by helminths include chest pains, skin symptoms, bloody diarrhea, dehydration, anemia, bowel obstruction and mal-absorption. Since they suck nutrients from consumed foods, humans rarely get to enjoy the nutritious benefits of the foods they eat. In very severe cases, weight loss is observed. In children, helminths make the abdomen distended, which can easily be confused with malnutrition symptoms. In humans who the helminths have gained access to the nervous system, neurological problems may be observed.

Flu Symptoms

For this an alternative medicine was to be conjured.

New drugs: Tamiflu and Relenza

It was at the turn of this century that new drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza were formulated. They were effective against both the type “A” and the type “B” influenza causing viruses. They belonged to a separate class of medicines called the neuraminidase inhibitors. Tamiflu contained the drug Oseltamivir and Relenza was made of Zanamivir. Both these drugs worked in a similar way. They too could stop the particles of the virus from being released in to the human cells. This limited the spread of the infection.

The medicine Tamiflu is taken as a pill. It comes in the form of a capsule, a yellow grey capsule with seventy five milligram of the drug encompassed in it. There is another form also in which Tamiflu s supplied, it is the suspension form. This suspension form is for children. They are given the medication as per their weight. For a child weighing less than 33 pounds he / she are given thirty milligrams of the medication. All weight categories the medication is given in proper proportions.

Relenza is a drug that required an inhaler to take the drug. This drug is directly inhaled into the lungs. This drug was approved by the FDA at around the same time Tamiflu was approved. However, people who suffered from asthma and other respiratory related diseases faced fatalities after inhaling this drug. Experts in the field have weighed the options against the risk involved when taking this inhalation prescription drug. They have justified the risk involved against the risk of infection.

Tamiflu has been considered too expensive against the older drugs.

Learn to Kill Your Stutter

While it isn’t generally a speech problem that effect every body – a stammer is a massive problem for babies and children, teenagers and grownups today. What’s Behind the Ear Infection Epidemic in Children?

Frequent ear infections in infants and children are as common as colds that not only create great discomfort for the child, but may cause permanent hearing loss. They are often treated with round after round of antibiotics. Unfortunately, while this antidote seems to manage the problem, it often doesn’t seek to find the real cause behind the infection in the first place.

Many people do not know that ear infections are often caused by acid reflux. As refluxed liquid enters the upper throat, especially while lying down, it can inflame the adenoids causing them to swell. The swollen adenoids can block the passages from the sinuses and Eustachian tube and fluid can build in the sinuses and middle ear.

As acid reflux is also epidemic in our entire population–how can we connect the dots between both ear infections and this digestive disorder? How can we find what’s behind both of these problems and reach a true solution?

The first thing to understand is that acid reflux is most often the result of an abnormal overgrowth of Candida, or yeast, in the stomach, when the PH of the stomach is low. This causes digestion to slow down and foods to ferment. The Candida also attaches itself to the muscles of the esophageal sphincter causing them to become paralyzed. In reflux, the pressure of the fermentation gases push the acid up through the weakened esophageal sphincter muscles into the throat.

Today, acid reflux is so prevalent because people are no longer eating foods that support good digestion and healthy bacterial flora. Historically, people consumed a wealth of cultured and lacto-fermented drinks like kefir and yogurt from whole raw milk, beet kvass and kombucha, and cultured vegetables like homemade sauerkraut, pickled beets and Kimchee. These high-enzyme, probiotic foods kept yeast and other bacteria in check as well as helped to maintain proper stomach acidity and gut flora–all necessary for good digestion.

Gut flora is passed on to a child during its passage in birth through the birth canal. When the mother has poor gut flora, the child will inherit the same problem and suffer the health consequences of poor digestion and a tendency towards both acid reflux and frequent ear infections because of this deficiency. Therefore, through a familial inheritance, poor health is passed on to the next generation.

As Hippocrates said, “All disease begins in the gut,” we can see that both ear infections and acid reflux and also many of our epidemic health problems must be coming from a lack of foods necessary to promote good digestion. We must return to eating the high-enzyme, probiotic rich foods that our ancestors ate and remove the difficult-to-digest modern breads, crackers, processed foods and sugar that can cause a Candida overgrowth. We can also benefit from adding nutrient-dense, old-fashioned foods like bone broth soups and meats, poultry, eggs and dairy from pastured animals as well as wild-caught fish in place of the foods that upset normal digestion.

Osteoarthritis of the Elbow – Cure it With Chondroitin Liquid

The First Signs of Chicken Pox

What are the first signs of chicken pox?

These are usually the earliest signs of the disease that occurs, which about 1-2 days later is next followed by a rash or red spots. However, the first signs of chicken pox do not always occur before the rash developments.

When the rash appears, it most often appears on the face, scalp and trunk first. Then it is usually followed by about 50-500 blisters that consume the entire body. Although many of these factors are determined by age (for instance, adults get it much worse than children), as well as how your immune system is functioning.

There are over 26 potential symptoms, here's some just to name a few:

  • Severe itchiness
  • Red spots / blisters all over body

The best thing to do is make sure that your child or whomever is suffering from this disease is getting the proper care. A good start is lots of rest, drinking fluids, and staying away from other people as this illness is highly contagious and it's easy to pass it on.

If you have had any vaccination, then you are still not completely immune from the disease. The varicella zoster virus vaccination is only about 80-90% effective. However, if you do get this disease and have had the infection, then it usually will be more mild. But still, take precaution and take the necessary steps to get your health (or your child's health) back in order.

Epilepsy: Ten Tips for People with Seizures

1. The goal is zero seizures and zero side-effects.

If you are still having seizures or more than minimal side-effects from your anticonvulsant medication, then you have unfinished business. The holy grail of seizure management is to stop them entirely, and to do so without significant side-effects from the treatment used to stop them.

Continuing seizure activity is not good for either the brain or body. When seizures have not been stopped, the seizures you're still having might change the brain in a way that makes it easier for future seizures to occur. Also, people with uncontrolled seizures are more likely to fall and hurt themselves than people without seizures. Moreover, driving a car will probably not be possible until the seizures have been stopped.

2. Do not blab.

Your medical information is confidential, and you should play your medical cards close to your chest. Do not volunteer information to non-medical people who do not need to have it. Once the information is out, you have no control over how it is used or mis-used. Unfortunately, some individuals still have backwards ideas and attitudes about epilepsy. Do not give them an opening to mess with your life.

3. Do not lie.

If others have a legitimate need to know about your epilepsy, you should stick to the truth, though you should not need to add information that is not requested. People with a "need to know" may include your employer, your insurer and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Here is an example of one of many reasons you should not lie: Suppose you're the driver of a car involved in an accident. If you lied to your insurance company about your epilepsy, they might refuse to pay based on your fraudulent application, whether you had a seizure or not!

One escape case is that if you have had just one lifetime seizure, then it is medically correct to say you do not have epilepsy. A minimum of two seizures is required to establish the diagnosis of epilepsy.

4. Take your medication regularly.

The best medicine in the world will not work if you do not take it properly. I have the greatest sympathy for people who need to take medication for seizures. When I miss a dose of my antihistamine, the only consequence is that my nose runs, but people who miss a dose of seizure medication might pay for it with a seizure.

However, assuming you're human, at some point or another you'll screw up and forget a dose. Work out a plan with your doctor for what to do when that happens.

5. Do not fixate on drug blood-levels.

Do not confuse a tool with a goal. The goal is to have no seizures and no side-effects, not to produce a certain number on a laboratory report. In selected situations, drug blood-levels can be useful tools, but sometimes the patient, doctor, or both, get fixated on them and lose sight of the big picture.

A neurology professor summed this up nicely: "Managing a seizure disorder by only watching the blood-levels is like driving a car by only watching the speedometer.

Obsessing over drug blood-levels can lead to sad consequences. For example, if the blood-level happens to fall within the suggested range of numbers printed on the lab slip, the patient and doctor might conclude that everything humanly possible is already being done. But if the patient is still having seizures, more work is still needed.

It is also unfortunate when the patient and doctor assume that a blood-level outside the "normal range" is bad. Some patients may actually do best on a blood-level that is higher than the printed range, or, alternately, do just fine on a blood-level below the range. The printed range is just a rough guideline.

6. Keep regular hours.

I know that you are an exciting, vibrant human being. But sometimes it's in your best interest to have as if you are a dull person, waking up at the same hour every morning and retiring at the same hour every night. Disruptions in the sleep-cycle can lower the threshold for having seizures. As an example, one man in my practice never achieved perfect seizure control while working swing-shifts, but was perfectly seizure-free when he went on straight day-shifts.

7. Keep records.

In the process of medication adjustment leading to perfect seizure-control, an accurate tally of the numbers of seizures per span of time is an essential tool in judging whether or not you are on the right track. Women should also chart their menstrual periods. Sometimes there is a correlation between seizures and the menstrual cycle.

8. Communicate with your doctor.

The smartest doctors in the world can not fix problems that they do not know about. If you're still having seizures or experiencing side-effects from seizure medication, chances are that your doctor would appreciate a phone call about it. The advice you receive will allow you to make better use of your time than if you wait until the next appointment to report problems.

9. Talk to your doctor about pregnancy.

If you're planning on becoming pregnant, then the time to mention this to your doctor is before you become pregnant. Your medication might need to change in order to optimize your exit. Once you are pregnant, this option is less available. In any case, you and every other woman of child-bearing potential should take at least 800 micrograms (0.8 milligrams) of folic acid (also known as folate) daily in order to minimize the chance of fetal malformation. Once you discover you are pregnant, you might already be past the time at which the folic acid was most needed. Taking it regularly is the safest course of action.

Thyroid Cure

Hypothyroidism occurs when your thyroid gland fails to produce enough thyroid hormone. This could be a problem with the thyroid gland itself, or it could have to do with the hypothalamus or pituitary hormone. Both of these stimulate the production of the thyroid hormone. Hypothyroidism disease is an endocrine disorder which is quite common and is seen more in men than in women.

If you are wondering what causes hypothyroidism, most of the cases, around 95% or more, are caused from a problem in the thyroid gland. About 5% or less are caused by a pituitary gland problem or problem in the brain. Causes can include interference from drugs, radiation, treatment postpartum thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis, treatment of thyroid tumors and a condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Symptoms of hypothyroidism many times are subtle. They are not specific, meaning they might look like symptoms of other conditions, and they are often attributed to aging. People who have mild hypothyroidism may not even have any symptoms or signs. As the condition gets worse, the symptoms will usually become more apparent. The bulk of the complaints from this disease are in relation to the metabolic slowing of the body.

Digestive Symptoms – Even with loss of appetite, hypothyroidism can cause mild to moderate weight gain. It can also be the cause of constipation. Patients suffering from this disease can experience severe edema, especially in their lower extremities due to the weight gain mainly being fluid in nature.

Fatigue – A very common symptom, fatigue and also loss of energy will likely be seen when you have hypothyroidism. Plus, this may include low mental energy, which can lead to problems with your memory or concentration.

Sensory Disturbances – Decreased hearing, numbness or tingling in your feet and hands, plus blurred vision are also possible symptoms. Also not uncommon is an intolerance to cold or feeling cold even in warmer temperatures.

Dermatological – You may also see less perspiration, hair loss, and dry hair and skin with hypothyroidism.

Psychological Symptoms – Mood swings, depression and cognitive impairment can all point to this disease.

Pain – Joints and muscles may be achy or in pain, plus you can have feelings of muscle weakness. You could even experience muscle swelling.

Fertility – The inability to conceive and irregularities in menstrual cycles can also occur due to hypothyroidism.

Other symptoms of hypothyroidism can include the yellowing of your skin, brittle nails, hoarseness and a rise in your cholesterol levels.

Symptoms in Children, Teens and Infants

Hypothyroidism is rare in these age groups, but it can occur. For infants, symptoms can include choking on food and a poor appetite. It can also include scaly, dry skin. For teens and children the symptoms are behavioral and also changes in performance at school. They may also gain weight but have a low growth rate. Teens can also have delayed puberty and look a lot younger than their real age.

Progression of the Disease

As the disease progresses and becomes more severe, you may see puffiness around your eyes, a decrease in body temperature, your heart rate getting slower and also heart failure. At its worst, severe hypothyroidism can even lead to a life-threatening coma, or myxedema coma. This coma can be triggered because of a severe illness, stress, surgery or a traumatic injury. The patient then requires hospitalization and treatment right away with thyroid hormones by injection.

With the hypothyroidism tests and the right diagnosis, this disease can be easily easily and completely with thyroid hormone replacement. However, hypothyroidism that goes untreated can lead to cardiomyopathy, or a heart which is enlarged, which worsens your chance of your heart failing, and also pleural effusion, or the collection of fluid around your lungs.

Typically, the severity of your symptoms will depend on your age, how long you've had hypothyroidism and how serious your condition is. Your symptoms could be so mild and going so slowly that you do not notice them for many years. The older you get, however, the likelier you are to notice the symptoms.

One Technique to Try in Order to Cure Your Stammer

The reason you stammer is a result of blocks and triggers. Triggers are physical and mental states which cause you to stutter. Many exercises are devoted to avoiding triggers to avoid stuttering. We'll talk about triggers at another time.

Blocks, as you would imagine, are fluency obstacles you encounter when you try to speak. A typical block would be to repeat a particularly troublesome word. This is where the ccc-cat comes into your speech. You repeat "Cah" over and over because it is a block in your fluency. You with me?

Like triggers, if you can identify your blocks you can overcome them and speak more clearly. Here's one exercise to help you increase your blocks. Ready?

Block Busting Stammering Exercise

Step 1:
Read aloud for 1 minute from your favorite book or magazine. Try your best to speak fluently, but do not stress over it. At the end of the minute add up how many words you read. This is your baseline. For example maybe you read 50 words in 1 minute.

Step 2:
Now, re-read the same passage again focusing on reading at a pace which allows you to continue moving forward without major stammering. This may be very slow – do not worry! How many words did you read this time in the 1 minute? It may be less, it may be slightly more. The key is to read at an even pace at a speed which allows you to continue reading without stuttering.

Step 3:
Continue this exercise of reading out loud and counting the words you get through in a minute. Slowly beginning speeding up as you read. Only speed up if you are able to get through the passage without a stammer. Focus on moving forward through the passage and slowly increasing speed over time.

This exercise allows you to work through your block until one day you realize you are able to read more words, in the 1 minute time without stammering at all. Lather, rinse, repeat from there until you are up to a comfortable speaking speed. Make sure you read different paths or different books as you work this exercise.

The Risk of a Stroke During Plastic Surgery

An Unspoken Concern

While most plastic surgeons will outline the risks of having an elective surgical procedure performed, very few tend to speak directly to the issues regarding safety and post operative complications. Often, a surgeon will make a general statement regarding the risks of surgery, such as, “All surgery carries risks which includes, bleeding, infection, difficulty breathing, swelling, clotting, and other illnesses in a small percentage of patients,” and then move directly into talking about the benefits of the procedure. Patients need to inform themselves of the actual risks associated with cosmetic surgical procedures, especially the risk of a stroke or cerebral vascular accident (CVA). As a physician, I understand that there is no value in frightening our patients without cause. Yet I still firmly believe that patients should never be too quick to decide on an elective surgical procedure without fully realizing the potential for devastating complications.

Patients and physicians alike need to recognize that most patients who are receiving some sort of cosmetic care are generally considered to be healthy individuals. Thus, neither patient nor physician is necessarily ready for the onset of a complication. This fact alone can make a complication much more serious than if the very same complication arose during a medically necessary procedure. For instance, even during a routine knee surgery, physicians do not see their patients as completely healthy, and are more guarded against the onset of blood clots or other risk factors for stroke.

While the approximated one to two percent of cosmetic surgery patients who will experience a stroke seems like a very limited number of patients, the effects of these strokes can be devastating

Who is at Risk?

Few patients really consider themselves at risk for a possible stroke because they associate the condition as an event that occurs to people over the age of 55. While in some cases age does bear a factor, it is far from the determining factor of a stroke. In fact, a healthy 65-year-old woman can be less likely to have a stroke than a 35-year-old woman who is undergoing invasive cosmetic surgery. Patients should understand the causes of a stroke in a post operative environment in order to assess more realistically their level of risk. However, as a physician I can testify to the fact that sometimes there simply is no way to ascertain why a stroke occurred for one individual and not for another with the same health history, the same risk factors, and the same surgical procedure.

Most post operative strokes occur when a blood clot dislodges, which typically occurs in the lower section of the body. This blood clot then travels through the body and may lodge itself in the brain or more commonly the lungs. This action of a blood clot traveling through the body post surgically is commonly referred to as an embolism and usually arises from a larger blood clot that usually forms in the lower body known as a deep venous thrombosis or “DVT”. DVT is a prime concern for surgeons, and can be considered a precursor to a stroke.

Understanding the Potential Danger

Blood clots generally become trapped in either the lung or the brain when they break free from other parts of the body. When the blood clot becomes caught in a blood vessel in the brain, it results in a CVA or stroke. When it becomes trapped in a blood vessel in the lung it is known as a pulmonary embolism or PE. Either condition is life threatening and can carry serious consequences.

While blood clots and strokes are a significant risk for all patients having any type of invasive surgery, plastic surgeons run into a unique scenario that generally makes it a little more difficult for our patients to get treatment and help in a short amount of time. Incidents of blood clots and stroke can happen anywhere between several hours post operatively up to about ten days after surgery. Thus, these incidents rarely occur within a medical environment and usually happen at home. Patients who remain in the hospital or a medical center after a medically necessary procedure are more likely to have these incidents in the hospital.

Patients, who are going to experience a cosmetic procedure, or any type of surgery for that matter, should familiarize themselves with the general symptoms of post surgical pulmonary embolism or stroke. Symptoms that include shortness of breath, chest pain, disorientation, and sometimes even a sense of altered mental status are likely either to be related to a pulmonary embolism or a stroke. Patients and physicians alike should also understand the basic risk factors for these complications and prior to a surgical procedure. While there are still studies being conducted, which will help determine a patient’s risk level in the future, there are some pretty basic factors, which point to a likely candidate.

Risk Factors For Patients

Women are more likely to experience these types of complications than men, as are smokers. There are numerous medications, which place patients at a higher risk for postoperative blood clots, including but not limited to hormone replacements and birth control pills. Weight plays a significant factor as does the level of activity the patient generally participates in. Patients who generally lead a sedentary lifestyle are at a higher risk. Obese patients are at an even higher risk. Increased age and a previous history of deep venous thrombosis are more obvious risk factors. Patients who have a current diagnosis of cancer are at a particularly high risk.

Reducing the Risk Factors for Safer Surgery

Whenever a patient is booked for surgery in my practice, I always insist that they have a medical clearance by an internist to help determine their general risk level for elective surgery and the possibility of medical complications, which includes the risk of abnormal blood clotting. I also take into consideration the type of surgery that I am performing on the patient. In general, surgical procedures that have a longer operative time and involve body contouring carry a higher risk than those that are minimally invasive and are performed on the head and neck. The internist will review a list of current and recent medications, as I do myself, and will verify that the patient is physically fit to tolerate the procedure that is desired. There are still no guarantees, but knowing a patient’s medical history, their obvious risk factors, and having a second pair of eyes look over the same information that I am presented with, ensures that I am taking all possible precautions.

I also use something known as pneumatic compression boots for every patient undergoing any surgical procedure and I urge other physicians to do so as well. These boots are able to keep the muscles of the lower extremities moving in a fashion similar to walking, which can help prevent blood clots. I insist that my patients carry on an active lifestyle, to help prevent DVT formation and to directly assist with both preoperative and postoperative care. Proper positioning in the operating room allows for additional prevention of blood clot formation as well.

Physicians and patients need to understand that the potential for serious complications related to cosmetic surgery can be devastating. Knowledge is power and education can help reduce the number of blood clots and such rare but devastating complications as strokes that occur after surgery. With current research and education practices, we should be able to reduce the number of post operative strokes and blood clots over the coming years.

Chair Massage – The Little Known Side Effects

Chair Massage (also called seated massage) was developed by American, David Palmer in the early 1980’s.

This 15 minute massage is performed with the recipient seated on, and supported by an ergonomically designed chair. Even though chair massage is used mainly for relaxation and stress release in the workplace environment, chair massage is also suitable for the pregnant woman who has difficulty lying in a suitable position on the massage table. The elderly and infirm can also benefit from seated massage.

An unexpected and uncommon side effect of seated massage can be nausea and fainting. This “fainting phenomenon” occurs with people (mainly women) who are predisposed to low blood pressure. Typical instances of clients fainting include Pregnant women, and Women experiencing menstruation Diabetics who have allowed their blood sugar level to drop can also be affected. Missing a meal or snack before their massage puts the diabetic person at risk of fainting on the chair. Sometimes a regular seated massage client can experience a ‘one-off’ fainting spell for no apparent reason. A person who has episodes of nausea or fainting may also be at risk of this side effect. For instance, a person who feels ‘queasy’ and nauseous when she gives blood. What then is the massage therapist to do?

During the intake interview the practitioner must inquire about the recipient’s blood pressure and any history of fainting. The therapist should always inform the client to report the slightest feeling of queasiness or nausea during the massage. If the client does faint on the chair, the therapist can either support the client to avoid any injury, or assist the unconscious person off the chair and raise his/her legs. Consciousness will soon return. There will be no ill effects from the experience once it passes. However, fainting can be a source of embarrassment for the client. The therapist needs to re-assure the person that fainting can indeed occur during a seated massage, but that there are no after effects.

It may be helpful to give a simple explanation of the fainting phenomenon. One of the well known benefits of massage is relaxation. When the body relaxes, blood pressure is lowered. When this occurs during a table massage, nothing happens until the client sits up after the massage. The client may feel a little ‘spaced out’ or ‘heady’. If the client gets off the table too quickly, that is when she may feel dizzy. However, during a seated massage, the effect of less blood flow to the brain is immediate. Dizziness and nausea may thus result.

In summary, then, it is essential that all seated massage practitioners are aware of the fainting phenomenon and take all steps to avoid it happening to their clients.

Laser surgery uses a tiny but powerful light beam to help drain the fluid from your eye easier. The eye surgeon will make holes or use it to shrink the clogged areas in your eye. This surgery can help you decrease your eye pressure. The surgery may be done on one or both eye. It can affect one eye only.

The surgery is done in your doctors' office or in a clinic. You should be able to see just fine after surgery except you may feel some grittiness in your eye or eyes. Your eyes or eyes may be swollen too. But these symptoms will go away in a day or two. You may have some sensitivity to light and some blurred vision for three weeks or so while your eyes heal. You would still take your eye drops or oral medications during this time period.

Now this is the basic procedure is for glaucoma laser surgery. Your ophthalmologist can fill you in more fully as it applies to your individual eye problem.

It's important to note that any lost vision will not return. This surgery is meant to prevent future loss of vision and help you avoid taking lifetime medications that may be harmful to your body. Laser surgery may not be appropriate for all types of glaucoma but your eye surgeon or ophthalmologist will help determine that. In any case glaucoma laser surgery is a consideration and want to avoid eye drops and seek a better solution.
