Causes of Heart Attack
The causes of heart attack are worth knowing because it enhances you of the prevention of heart attack and treatment of heart disease measures to be adopted.
1) Elevated Cholesterol: Cholesterol is simply tiny fat molecules. Fat taking into the body is used by the cells for energy in the form of cholesterol. There are two forms of cholesterol; low density lipoprotein and high density lipoprotein.
Low density lipoprotein is called bad cholesterol because it can cause blockage of blood vessels (arteriosclerosis) while high level cholesterol is called good cholesterol because it carries excess cholesterol from the cells and blood vessel to the liver for metabolism.
In overweight or obese individuals, the cholesterol level is also high, so the reason for high prevalence of heart disease among the group. Interestingly, the level of the cholesterol can be detected through simple laboratory test and treated, if need be.
2) Lack of exercise: As one of the causes of heart attack, physical inactivity results in doubled risk of heart attack. Studies show that regular exercise can reduce the risk of heart disease by 40%. Mild to moderate exercise has been found to increase blood circulation, strengthen the heart, inhibit blood clotting, help control blood sugar and also increase the good cholesterol which is high density lipoprotein.
3) Stress: Stress and particular repressed anger have been found to increase blood pressure and heart rate since it is one of the causes of heart attacks. Stress puts more demand on the heart and in the presence of other risk factors making the heart vulnerable to sudden attack.
