Signs and Symptoms of Fibroid Tumors

Fibroid tumors are non-malignant tumors that are made of fibrous or connective tissue. They can grow in organs of the body which contains smooth muscle cells but they are often found in a woman's uterus. Hormonal imbalance plays a major role in the formation of fibroid tumors despite the real cause is still unknown. Most of the time, fibroids occur as multiple tumor masses which are slow-growing and often cause no symptoms.

Symptoms may differ greatly. Some women are completely asymptomatic which means they show no evidence of disease, their fibroids are usually immaterial in size. Most women experience at least one of the following complaints or side effects:

– Dull or Severe pelvic pain
– Bloating or fullness
– Painful menstruation
– Increased menstrual flow and clots
– Irregular period
– Increased urinary frequency
– Constipation

The occurrence of one or more of the symptoms does not consequentially mean that a fibroid tumor is present. Fibroids are commonly detected during a pelvic exam, the uterus then has a large and irregular shape. This is usually confirmed by ultrasound and sometimes CT scan.

The treatment for fibroid tumor is determined on an individual basis, it varies for every person. Most women do not require treatment at all. There are traditional methods of having a fibroid tumor removed. These methods include: Myomectomy and Hysterectomy. Myomectomy is the surgical removal of the tumor without damaging the uterus while a Hysterectomy is the removal of part or the entire uterus. This is normally done when the complications are acute. More often than not, before your doctor tells you to have hysterectomy, every form of treatment should be tried first.

Some women do not want to consider surgery so they look for alternative treatment which is non-surgical and safer. The way to do this is by modifying your diet. Lessen your meat and dairy intake and eat more organic fruits and vegetables. The reason why you want to do this is because most of the foods we buy are processed and they have chemicals. Chemicals cause the fibroids to grow rapidly.
