How to Make Your Own Baby Food and Save a Fortune!

Baby in a highchair, mom in front with a small spoon and a jar of baby food. It looks like something right out of a parenting magazine, and it's a scene that is played out some times a day in the majority of homes with small babies. Unfortunately, it's also a powerful marketing image that can cost a family a great deal of money in the long run.

The Convenience Factor

Most parents would say the main reason for using commercial jarred baby food is the convenience aspect. After all, with the busy lifestyle many of us have today, no one has time to specifically prepare a meal for each member of the family. It does not have to be a special event to create your own baby food, however. Baby can usually eat what the rest of the family is eating with very little special preparation.

Good Nutrition

Everyone worries about proper nutrition for growing babies. Iron, calcium, and vitamin D – all of these things are legitimate concerns in children's nutrition. However, fortified and processed foods are not necessarily better than whole foods. Homemade baby food, created from fresh ingredients, offers your child superior nutrition as well as encourages a taste for simple, unprocessed foods – a taste that will reasonably prevent obesity-related problems later in life. It's not necessary to offer commercial baby foods in order to have a healthy child.

Economics

Why pay more for an inferior product? Beginning baby food often runs between forty and seventy cents for two ounces. It's entirely possible to purchase half a pound of produce for the same amount, and baby will reap the benefits of eating fresh, nutritious food. Buying producing in bulk can result in even more savings, and even frozen produce is preferred to what you find in the jars.

Getting Started

It's important to know when baby is actually ready for solids. Introducing solids too early can lead to an increased likelihood of food intolerances and food allergies. Most medical associations agree that starting solids around six months of age is ideal, and many people find delaying solids for allergy-prone babies is even better. Signs of readiness for solids include:

  • Increased nursing for more than a few days, which is unrelated to illness or teeth, or, if baby is fed artificial baby milk, consuming more than 32 ounces daily.
  • Ability to sit up unsupported.
  • Absence of the tongue-thrust reflex. This life-saving reflex causes babies to push foreign objects (in this case, solid foods) out of their mouths to avoid choking.
  • Ability to pick foods up and place in mouth independently (or development of the pincer grass).

What About Allergies?

Experts recommend introducing new foods between three days and a week apart. This helps parents and caregivers identify signs of a food allergy or intolerance. Common signs of food allergy / intolerance are:

  • Increased bloating and gassiness, painful discomfort.
  • Sandpaper-like rash on face, often where the offending food made contact with skin.
  • Runny nose and watery eyes.
  • Diarrhea or mucous in the stools. Blood in the stool can also be an indicator of a food allergy, usually dairy or soy.
  • Red rash around anus, or an unusual diaper rash.
  • Vomiting or increased spit up with discomfort.

Ideally, it is best to introduce foods that are less likely to produce an allergic reaction in baby. Avoiding foods such as egg whites, certain nuts such as peanuts, cow's milk, corn, wheat, and some berries such as strawberries is recommended, as they are more likely to cause reactions. Instead, start with foods that are easier on baby's system. Some good ideas include:

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Carrots
  • Squash
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Asparagus
  • Oats
  • Barley
  • Brown rice

Tools of the Trade

Fancy equipment is not necessary to make healthy food for your baby. Things that might be helpful include a blender, a food mill, a steamer basket and ice cube trays if you want to freeze small portions. Most people have blenders already in their kitchens, and a food mill (or baby grinder) is not necessary if you have a good blender or food processor. Steamer baskets can be found in most grocery stores for only a few dollars, and fit easily into saucepans. Many beginner foods require nothing more than a small pan and a fork.

Sequencing

Many doctors recommend starting your baby on rice cereal first. Many parents find, however, that fruits go over better for beginning eaters. It is a myth that babies will prefer sweet things if they are given fruits first – nature's first food, breast milk, is naturally sweet, and that that what baby is accredited to. Banana is a wonderful first food, as its creamy consistency is similar to mother's milk. After introducing banana, try another fruit or vegetable. Continue adding fruits and vegetables until baby has a wide variety of tastes. Then consider adding whole grains in the form of cereal. Many whole grains have naturally occurring iron, so there is no need to supplement baby's iron unless there is a medical indication for doing so. Brown rice, oats, and barley are all good choices. Next, introduce a meat or poultry such as beef or chicken.

If you are a vegetarian, introduce another protein source such as tofu or lentils. As time goes on, introduce a combination of tastes, such as cereal mixed with applesauce or peas and carrots. This is also a great time to introduce finger foods, especially if baby has teeth. As baby learners to self-feed, you can move away from making purees and offer small baby-sized portions of the family meal.

Getting Started

Bananas make an ideal food for a baby starting solids. To serve, let bananas ripen well (the more ripe, the better – brown spots are desirable), cut into small chunks and mash with a fork. Pears are an excellent source of fiber and can be cooked like apples: peel and cut into chunks. Place in small saucepan and just cover with water. Cook until tender. These can then be mashed with a fork, run through a food mill, processed in a blender or food processor. They can also be offered as finger food if they are cut into small enough chunks. Carrots, another popular first food, should be scraped with a vegetable peeler, sliced and steamed or boiled until soft. Process in blender or food mill. Carrots can be a choking hazard for children, so do use caution if offering as a finger food.

Sweet potatoes are extremely easy to make, and one potato can last a long time if frozen after cooking. Place sweet potato in a microwave for about eight minutes, remove and let cool. Open up and serve right out of the peel – the potato is very soft and needs no further processing. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of B6.

Winter squash such as acorn or butternut makes an excellent first food. Cut squash in half and clean. Place in one half inch of water in a baking pan and bake at three hundred and fifty degrees for half an hour. Use a spoon to scoop out squash and feed directly to baby.

Avocadoes are an extremely nutrient dense food and offers important vitamins and minerals such as iron and potassium. Cut avocado in half around the pit, grab each half and give it a twist. Scoop out meat and mash or dice.

Making cereal for baby is very easy. Take a cup of the whole grain if your choice such as brown rice, oats, or barley and process in the blender until the desired consistency is reached, usually about two minutes for very young babies. Store in an airtight container. To cook, mix with liquid of your choice and heat over medium heat on stove until thick.

Enjoyment

Enjoy this fun stage in baby's development, and rest assured that baby is getting superior nutrition and developing good eating habits which will last a lifetime!

Physical Aspects of Depression

Depression is categorized as a psychological disorder, and that’s a reasonable classification. Depression often manifests in a person’s thinking. A depressed person will have a different perspective, a generally more pessimistic perspective, when considering life circumstances than a non-depressed person will. Depression, however, doesn’t begin and end with a person’s thinking.

Interestingly enough, most of the symptoms of depression present in physical ways, not psychologically. Some of the more common symptoms of depression include excessive sleep patterns or sleeping too little, weight gain or weight loss, lack of energy, emotional outbreaks, and other symptoms as well. Considering this symptom list, being overly emotional is the only symptom that might be seen as mostly psychological in nature, but even that presents in a physical way through crying or hostility or whatever.

The labeling of depression as a psychological problem, a problem of the mind, equates it with mental instability or weakness in the minds of some. Men in particular seem to be especially sensitive to being labeled with some form of mental or emotional disorder. On its face this type of resistance may not seem overly problematic, but it can become quite a serious issue.

Being reluctant to admit to even the possibility of being depressed is probably also going to lead to treatment reluctance as well. Depression has been known to clear independent of any treatment. This may be especially true in the case of a one time meaningful loss, the end of a relationship for example, or a death. But bouts of depression that aren’t triggered by a significant incident, or depression brought on by a heavily traumatic event, can become chronic depression. Chronic depression most always needs intervention, and without intervention can lead to a person becoming severely distraught and even suicidal.

Giving adequate consideration to depression’s physical nature can reduce the stigma of having, or possibly having, depression. This may be the reason that depression is sometimes attributed to a chemical imbalance in the brain. While some clinicians don’t like this description, there’s significant evidence that the brains of depressives do have a different make up than the brains of people who aren’t depressed. In other words, the brain is changed when depression sets in. This knowledge is what has sparked the development of a host of depression treatment drugs over the last twenty years or so, each designed to “fix”, in its own way, the depressed brain.

So depression changes the brain, and could even be said to imbalance the brain. The makeup of the brain being somehow changed would seem to define a problem that’s physical in nature, so depression may be a mostly physical condition after all.

How To Heal Your Cracked Heels

Did you know that the average person walks about 4500 miles in their lifetime? This means we take millions of steps and subsequently pound our heads with every stride. So it's no wonder many of us suffer with heel problems from time to time, particularly if we do not look after them and one of the most common complaints that many of us will have to end is cracked heels.

Known as heel fissures by podiatrists, cracked heels are splits in the upper part of the skin (called the epidermis) surrounding the heel margin and is generally due to the drying out of the heel from wearing open backed footwear.

It can be exasperated by heel calls and may be painful and / or bleed if the fissures are deep enough to enter the deeper skin structures (called the dermis).

They can be a variety of causes for cracked heels some of which are listed below:

  • Being overweight
  • Having diabetes will cause drying of the skin and heels
  • Zinc Deficiency
  • Standing for long periods in unsuitable footwear
  • Constantly wearing open backed shoes
  • Omega 3 Deficiency
  • Suffering from dry skin conditions such as Anhidrosis
  • Having eczema or psoriasis

Being obese can compound the problem of dry heels as excess pressure put on the heel margin may lead them to crack more seriously. Diabetes is a problem because it damages the nerve endings, particularly in the extremities such as the feet, which in turn can interfere with the function of the sweat glands. This inevitably leads to the drying out of the foot, sometimes leading to Anhidrosis, which is a severe drying of the skin.

Other skin complaints such as eczema and psoriasis or the use of certain medicines can also lead to dry heels and skin so it is important to recognize what's going on early enough to prevent the condition deteriorating.

So how do you cure your cracked heels once you realize you have them? Here are a few tips to help you:

Make sure you clean and dry your feet correctly every day. If they are severely cracked and possibly bleeding, it is a good idea to soak your feet in a bowl (or foot spa) of warm water with a tablespoonful of salt for 15 to 20 minutes each day. You can also put some essential oils into the water, such as tea tree oil which acts as an antiseptic, to help prevent infection.

Depending on the seriousness of the cracking and if there are any calluses present, you may want to exfoliate and file the heels down with a good quality heel file or pumice stone. Never try to use a blade on your own heels to remove calluses particularly if they are deeply fissured because you may cut yourself badly which may lead to more serious problems. It is always best to seek the advice of your podiatrist who will safely pare down your dogs with a scalpel and remove most if not all of the fissures.

Once they are washed and dried, it is important to moisturize them with a good quality emollient. If you only have minor cracked heels then a simple hand or body lotion can be applied to your feet. One of the quickest ways to resolve them is to wear plastic bags or cling film over your feet in bed at night after creaming them. The plastic acts like the covering for burns patients.

If the cracking is more pronounced, then you may need a specialist over-the-counter moisturizer such as Flexitol Heel Balm or CCS foot care cream, which contains a high amount of synthetic urea, known for its dry skin properties. They also have a CCS + lotion which contains over 50% urea for more serious cracked and thickened (callused) heels.

If you would prefer some more natural home remedies for cracked heels then here are some heel 'recipes' you might be interested in:

  • Exfoliate with the help of strawberries and olive (or almond) oil. Mix 6 to 8 crushed strawberries with around two tablespoons full of almond or olive oil and a teaspoon of salt (table or sea salt). Apply the mixture as you would any exfoliate and leave for 15 minutes before washing off. Massaging the mixture in will also help with blood circulation.
  • Apply and mixture of 1 teaspoon full of Vaseline with the extract from one whole lemon mixed together and applied to the cracked areas of your heels. Apply daily until the cracks resolve. Try applying a mixture of glycerine and rosewater on a daily basis will also help
  • Try 100g of coconut oil with 3 teaspoons full of camphor and 3 tablespoons of melted paraffin wax. This will act similar to a waxed based aqueous cream like E45. Leave on overnight by using a pair of bed socks and wash off in the morning before applying a moisturizing lotion.

It is the juices and oils in these preparations that will help hasten the healing process of the cracks and fissures as they act as an emollient for your skin. However, before using any preparation, please be aware of any allergic reactions that may occur and always ask advice of a medical professional before embarking on self-treatment for your dry and cracked heels.

Is My Daughter Gay?

This is a question that countless mothers ask themselves, particularly of late, as there seems to have been a fashionable leaning towards lesbian experimentation in recent times.

As a mother of a practicing gay daughter, I can only tell you about the traits that manifested themselves in my child and the series of events which forced me to acknowledge that my daughter was different.

However, before I do so, I would like to say that if your daughter is prepubescent and actively voicing her gay felings, chances are she is not! Many girls these days form incredibly close relationships with their peers, sharing secrets that they could not possibly disclose outside of these friendships. Sometimes the bonding can become so intense, it can be misconstrued as love. Girls today are not afraid of expressing their emotions either verbally or physically and hand holding, embracing and even kissing are not necessarily indicative of anything more than a friendship.

From my experience of lesbians (I have met a few now, since my daughter has “come out”) they tend to be very secretive about their feelings. In our case, there were no obvious signs, or if there were, I failed to pick up on them, however, even if I had, my daughter would have vehemently denied any suggestions of lesbianism until she was ready to confront it herself.

Up until the age of about fifteen, my daughter was a happy, confident child. She had a large network of friends, was doing well at school and we shared a relatively easy mother/daughter relationship (as easy as any relationship can be with a teenager!) She was keen on fashion, music and all the usual stuff and even went out on a few dates, although these never amounted to anything.

The changes were subtle at first. She spent longer and longer at the computer and began to drift away from her old friends, preferring to make new ones. Over the next few months, school became difficult, she was unhappy with her subject options and wanted to change classes. She lost her Saturday job that she had had for years and she began to put on weight. Slowly my daughter was unravelling and I couldn’t understand what was happening to her. Despite all my efforts she turned away from me and spent more and more time in her room.

The turning point came when she began to self harm. This was her cry for help. She did not actually damage herself, she scratched at her wrists with a compass but it was enough for me to insist she saw a doctor. My daughter was diagnosed with depression, which I found terribly hard to accept. She was obviously desperately unhappy and yet I couldn’t understand why. I blamed myself for being inattentive and then I blamed her for being self absorbed. I have to say here though, that even at this stage, my daughter still went out on the odd date, albeit with little or no enthusiasm, and she still gave out all the signs that she was looking for a heterosexual relationship.

Luckily for us, our doctor was brilliant. My daughter told her that her depression was due to her weight gain and the doctor weighed and measured her, assuring her that her weight was not inconsistent with her height. She had my daughter going backwards and forwards every week and eventually when my daughter could no longer hide behind her weight issue, she found the courage to admit to the doctor that she was doubting her sexuality.

Once my daughter had been able to express her emotions, the changes in her were radical. Far from being secretive, she became almost militant overnight. The hair was cut short and the dresses and skinny jeans were exchanged for baggy trousers. I can’t say that life became any easier at this point, in fact this was probably the worst time for both of us as we were both floundering. My daughter spent hours and hours researching gay sites and began to hang around with people who I felt were a bad influence on her.

Our doctor advised me it could be a phase and that my daughter could grow out of it at any time. She advised me however, “to go with it, the best I could” and she offered me “Counselling for the Parents of Gay Children”. To this day I struggle with both.

Two years on from this, my daughter is enjoying a steady gay relationship with a girl two years older than she. They have been together over a year and to all intents and purposes, I have my daughter back. Her hair is long once more and she is back in her skinny jeans. She managed to attain her qualifications and has an interesting job. She is confident and happy in her own skin.

It is not what I would have chosen for my daughter and if I am honest, I still find it hard to accept that this is the way it is always going to be, but to go against her choice of partner would be to risk alienating her and that is not something I can contemplate.

How to Find Your Hidden Fears

Are hidden fears holding you back … without you knowing it? Once you’ve dragged a fear out into the open, you can work out ways to cope with it, live with it, protect against it…But you have to find it first.

Clues to fear are when you find yourself saying: ‘Oh, I can’t; I daren’t; I shouldn’t; I mustn’t; I couldn’t do that … I’d be so embarrassed … I wouldn’t know what to say … they’d think I was stupid … I might not like it … I’d miss my usual routine … foods … environment too much. …’ You have lots of good, rational, sensible reasons for all these hesitations, of course. But as often as not, what lies underneath is just plain fear.

Fear is like pain. Nature evolved it as an information system. When you meet a sabre-tooth tiger, you don’t need to work out intellectually that those teeth could do quite a bit of damage. You run automatically. Fear stops you doing stupid things and mobilises your energies to get you to safety

When someone you love is in danger, when you find a lump, when the airplane drops a couple of thousand feet … then fear is out in the open, operating the way it’s supposed to. It’ horrible, but at least you’re able to confront it and look for ways to cope with it or live with it.
The problem fears are the ones we don’t confront, maybe don’t acknowledge or try to hide from ourselves, maybe don’t even know about. They hold us back without us knowing why. When you get right down to it, most of the barriers in our lives are of our own making. And most of the reasons we create these barriers is fear. Quite often, those fears won’t be sensible and protective but silly, artificial, essentially meaningless … based on a childhood hangover or false assumption. But so long as the fear is hidden, you never get a chance to find out just how realistic it really is and get it into sensible perspective.
How to find hidden fears

Listen to your excuses. It’s human nature to find good reasons for what we do, even when we’re really acting from pure instinct or unthinking emotion. So fear tends to lurk behind a maze of rationalisations and excuses. This means your energy goes into trying to deal with the excuses, instead of the fear which is producing them.

For instance, do you say: ‘Well, I’m trying to get fit, I want to lose weight, but …’? You haven’t time, you’ve a bad back, it’s too much trouble to eat properly, you just get so hungry, exercise is so boring, life isn’t worth living without chips and chocolate …

If you try and deal with these excuses at face value you probably find yourself playing the ‘Yes, but’ game:

You: ‘I can’t eat a low-fat lunch, everything in the canteen is fattening.’
Friend: ‘They must do a salad, couldn’t you have that?’
You: ‘Yes, but then I’m still hungry and I can’t work properly.’

Friend: ‘Couldn’t you take something to work?’

You: ‘Yes, but I simply don’t have time in the mornings.’

Friend: ‘Couldn’t you cook it the night before?’
You: ‘Yes, but I’ve enough to cope with doing the family meal in the evenings…

And so on, indefinitely. Getting rid of one excuse only produces another. There’s only one way out of this game, and that’s to stop playing it. To simply say, OK, so I don’t want to do this. Why?
Let your feelings guide you. The useful answer to WHY you don’t want to do something, why fear is holding you back, is always going to be not verbal or intellectual, but emotional. Take a quiet few moments to imagine yourself in the situation you’re avoiding, and open yourself to the feelings that produces. Let yourself react physically. Do you tense up, huddle in on yourself, find yourself wincing, feeling sick, gritting your teeth, clenching your fists? Read your own body language, and as often as not it’ll tell you that underneath your excuses and reasons why not … is fear.
Be specific. Be VERY specific … Fear of what? Don’t settle for a vague, abstract answer, but pin it down to details, so you can confront it and plan for it. ‘Change is always frightening.’ Precisely what aspects of this particular change are frightening, and why, and how could you cope with them? ‘I’m afraid of failing,’ Exactly what could happen if you failed, and would it really be so awful? What emergency plans could you make? ‘It might upset my family.’ What would they do? How would you feel if they did it? How could you cope with your feelings and theirs? ‘It would be awful.’ Would the discomfort of foregoing chocolate, missing your favourite telly program, sitting down and writing that overdue letter really, seriously, be more than you can endure?
Pin down those what if’s. Your what if’s are useful pointers towards underlying fears. For each one, ask yourself exactly what would really happen. ‘What if … I get muddled … I can’t cope … I’m the fattest person in the gym … I can’t stick to a diet … I fail the interview…they laugh at me, don’t like me, reject me, find out I’m not much good really.’

So what would really, seriously happen if …? You’re afraid people will laugh at you? Will everyone you know really stand around pointing and jeering? It’s more like a playground nightmare than a sensible adult worry. It might have been a valid fear when you were ten, but now? You’re afraid you’ll fail? Everyone has failures, and you know it. It’s not fun, but it’s not the end of the world. You can’t succeed without failing, and you certainly can’t learn anything without failing. And so on. Once you start analysing them, you can turn your what if’s into so what’s.

And once you’ve actually dragged a fear out into the open, you can work out ways to cope with it, live with it, protect against it. You can stop it holding you back without you even knowing why.
But you have to find it first.

Can You See Relief For Anxiety?

Yes you can find relief for anxiety, and anxiety disorders, by using prescription medicine from the doctor.

You can also find relief for anxiety with natural methods that work in the core of your being, and lead you to a rich and fulfilling life in every way, with or without without medication.

There are techniques you can learn that will not only help with anxiety disorders but set your life on a course of confidence, peace, personal success, and much more.

Medication can be, and is often, a trap that shackles you to living in a drugged state of mind. That's why many people look for relief for anxiety with natural cures: many after years of using depression and anxiety medicine.

The very root of the problem that causes anxiety is fear. Sometimes the fear is something that can be named at the time of these uncomfortable feelings, sometimes it's too deep to name.

Perhaps it is a fear of being called on to simply answer a question in front of a small group of people, people you may know well. Maybe you go from comfortable to panicked, in only a moment, when your name is suddenly mentioned.

Maybe you find the mere thought of being in this small group of people so uncomfortable that you are barely present when you are there, for the consuming fear that your name will be called?

There are several known anxiety disorders, other than social problems, but the bottom of the situation is always some fear of something being out of your control, something not being perfect, you are not up to the task.

The place to begin finding relief for anxiety is in the privacy, and peace, of your own home. As simple as it sounds you can learn to be the master of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions through guided imagery.

Be careful not to think this inconsequential, as all great athletes use guided imagery to practice their sport in the quiet depths of their mind, before the actual experience.

In fact once you become adept at this skill, you will wonder which is the real experience, a golf swing in your mind, or that that golf swing on the fairway.

Guided imagery means that you are guiding your thoughts and mind to images, that include sight, smell, sounds, and touch. By sitting comfortably in a quiet place for only 5 minutes a day and teaching your self to visualize your self doing what ever you want to do, you will slowly teach the inner depths of your being to do this task perfectly with confidence and with great ease .

The amazing thing about guided imagery is that as you learn to use it for relief for anxiety , you will find it comes naturally in every aspect of your life to make your confident and successful.

Water Therapy And It’s Astounding Effects

Have you ever wondered why the skin of most of the handsome men and beautiful women of this world shines all the time? Why they have fewer pimples, red spots and

blackheads on their faces?

The secret behind their glowing skin is WATER.

All experts agree, that next to the air we breathe, water is the most important thing we will ever put in our bodies. It is surprising that so much time and money is being spent on supplements, organic foods and natural remedies but little attention is given to the quality and effect of the water with which those items are taken.

Water is the natural solvent and has many astounding effect.

It’s truly said,

“An Apple a day, keeps the doctor away.”

But the trend has been changed in this modernize world and now I guess

“A glass of water a day, keeps the doctor away.”

Every function inside the body is regulated by and depends on water. Water must be available to carry vital elements, oxygen, hormones, and chemical messengers to all parts of the body. Without sufficient water to wet all parts equally, some more remote parts of the body will not receive the vital elements that water supplies. Water is also needed to carry toxic waste away from the cells.

If we will not drink water regularly, then our body might get affected by dehydration.

If the dehydration persists and is not corrected naturally with water, it becomes symptom-producing and, in time, develops into a disease condition. This is why people who take antacids to silence their bodies’ thirst pain become more vulnerable and eventually develop other serious complications of dehydration.

Water therapy has been used for centuries to heal the sick. Hydro- and hydrothermal therapy are traditional methods of treatment that have been used for the treatment of disease and injury by many cultures, including those of ancient Rome, China, and Japan.

No matter what the specific health or fitness goal, one cannot achieve the maximum benefit from any health program without drinking the right kind of water in the proper amount.

It is essential to drink plenty of pure water to detoxify. Many health care professionals are encouraging patients to undergo detoxification regimes. These programs encourage the body to unload its stores of accumulated environmental toxins. As the body ingests foods, water contributes in the breakdown and absorption of nutrients and is a key element in the removal of wastes.

Biometric Techniques – Enhancing Security Standards In High Performance Enterprise

INTRODUCTION:

In today's digital economy, where many important activities are carried out with the help of computer, the need for reliable, simple, flexible and secure system is a great concern and a challenging issue for the organization. Day by day security breaches and transaction fraud increases, the need for secure identification and personal verification technologies is becoming a great concern to the organization. By measuring something unique about an individual and using that to identify, an organization can dramatically improve their security measures. Awareness of security issues is rapidly increasing among company how they want to protect the information which is a great asset that the company owns. The organization wants to protect this information from either internal or external threat. Security plays a very important role in the organization and to make computer system secure, various biometric techniques have been developed. Today biometric techniques are a reliable method of recognizing the identity of a person based on physiological or behavioral characteristics. Biometrics techniques exploit human's unique physical or behavioral practices in order to authenticate people. The features measured are face, fingerprints, hand geometry, iris, retinal, voice etc. Biometric authentication is increasingly being used in areas like banking, retailing, defense, manufacturing, health industry, stock exchange, public sector, airport security, internet security etc. Biometric technologies are providing a highly-secure identification and personal verification solutions. Biometric techniques are an attempt in providing a robust solution to many challenging problems in security. Biometrics focuses on the analysis of physical or behavioral traits that determine individual identity. Biometrics can be used to verify the identity of an individual based on the measurement and analysis of unique physical and behavioral data. Indeed, biometrics techniques increasingly are being viewed as the preferred means to confirm an individual's identity accurately.

The history of biometric techniques is not new, it trace its origin from the past. The ancient biometric technique which was practiced was a form of finger printing being used in China in the 14th century, as reported by the Portuguese historian Joao de Barros. The Chinese merchants were stamping children's palm and footprints on paper with ink to distinguish the babies from one another. Biometrics the ancient Greek word is the combination of two words -bio means life, metric means measurement. It is the study of methods for uniquely recognizing humans based upon physical or behavioral characterstics. The physiological characterstics are fingerprint, face, hand geometry, DNA and iris recognition. Behavioral are related to the behavior of a person like signature, study of keystroke, voice etc. Thus a biometric system is essentially a pattern recognition system which makes a personal identification by determining the authenticity of a specific physiological or behavioral characteristic held by the user. Biometric characteristics are grouped using a device called a sensor. These sensors are used to acquire the data needed for verification or identification and to convert the data to a digital code. The quality of the device chosen to capture data has a significant impact on the recognition results. The devices could be digital cameras for face recognition, ear recognition etc or a telephone for voice recognition etc. A biometric system operates in verification mode or identification mode. In verification mode the system validates a person identity by comparing the captured biometric data with the biometric template stored in the database and is mainly used for positive recognition. In the identification mode the system captures the biometric data of an individual and searches the biometric template of all users in the database toill a match is not found.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIOMETRIC TECHNIQUES

O Face Recognition

The biometric system can automatically recognize a person by the face. This technology works by analyzing specific features in the face like – the distance between the eyes, width of the nose, position of cheekbones, jaw line, chin, unique shape, pattern etc. These systems involve measurement of the eyes, nose, mouth, and other facial features for identification. To increase accuracy these systems also may measure mouth and lip movement.Face recognition captures characteristics of a face either from video or still image and translates unique characteristics of a face into a set of numbers. These data collected from the face are combined in a single unit that uniquely identifies each person. Sometimes the features of the face are analyzed like the ongoing changes in the face while smiling or crying or reacting to different situation etc. The entire face of the person is taken into consideration or the different part of the face is taken into consideration for the identity Of a person. It is highly complex technology. The data capture by using video or thermal imaging. The user identity is confirmed by looking at the screen. The primary benefit to using facial recognition as a biometric authenticator is that people are accredited to presenting their faces for identification and instead of ID card or photo identity card this technique will be beneficial in identifying a person. As the person faces changes by the age or person goes for plastic surgery, in this case the facial recognition algorithm should measure the relative position of ears, noses, eyes and other facial features.

O Hand Geometry:

Hand geometry is techniques that capture the physical characteristics of a user's hand and fingers. It analyzes finger image ridge endings, bifurcations or branches made by ridges. These systems measure and record the length, width, thickness, and surface area of an individual's hand. It is used in applications like access control and time and attendance etc. It is easy to use, reliably inexpensive and widely accepted. A camera captures a 3 dimensional image of the hand. A verification template is created and stored in the database and is compared to the template at the time of verification of a person. Fingerprint identification.Currently fingerprint readers are being built into computer memory cards for use with laptops or PCs and also in cellular telephones, and personal digital assistants. It is successfully implemented in the area of physical access control.

O Eye Recognition:

This technique involves scanning of retina and iris in eye. Retina scan technology maps the capillary pattern of the retina, a thin nerve on the back of the eye. A retina scan measures patterns at over 400 points. It analyzes the iris of the eye, which is the colored ring of tissue that surrounds the pupil of the eye. This is a highly mature technology with a proven track record in a number of application areas. Retina scanning captures unique pattern of blood vessels where the iris scanning captures the iris. The user must focus on a point and when it is in that position the system uses a beam of light to capture the unique retina characterstics. It is extremely secure and accurate and used heavily in controlled environment. However, it is expensive, secure and requires perfect alignment and usually the user must look in to the device with proper concentration. Iris recognition is one of the most reliable biometric identification and verification methods. It is used in airports for travelers.Retina scan is used in military and government organization. Organizations use retina scans primarily for authentication in high-end security applications to control access, for example, in government buildings, military operations or other restricted quarters, to authorized personnel only. The unique pattern and characteristics in the human iris remain unchanged through one's lifetime and no two persons in the world can have the same iris pattern.

O Voice Biometrics

Voice biometrics, uses the person's voice to verify or identify the person. It verifies as well as identifies the speaker. A microphone on a standard PC with software is required to analyze the unique characteristics of the person. Mostly used in telephone-based applications. Voice verification is easy to use and does not require a great deal of user education. To enroll, the user speaks a given pass phrase into a microphone or telephone handset. The system then creates a template based on numerous characteristics, including pitch, tone, and shape of larynx. Typically, the enrollment process takes less than a minute for the user to complete. Voice verification is one of the least intrusive of all biometric methods. Furthermore, voice verification is easy to use and does not require a great deal of user education.

O Signature Verification

Signature verification technology is the analysis of an individual's written signature, including the speed, acceleration rate, stroke length and pressure applied during the signature. There are different ways to capture data for analysis ie a special pen can be used to recognize and analyze different movements when writing a signature, the data will then be captured within the pen. Information can also be captured within a special tablet that measures time, pressure, acceleration and the duration the pen touches it. As the user writes on the tablet, the movement of the pen generates sound against paper an is used for verification. An individual's signature can change over time, however, which can result in the system not recognizing authorized users. Signature systems rarely on the device like special tablet, a special pen etc. When the user signs his name on an electronic pad, rather than merely comparing signatures, the device instead compares the direction, speed and pressure of the writing instrument as it moves across the pad.

O Keystroke

This method relates to the fact that every person has her / his own keyboard-melody, which is analyzed when the user types. It measures the time taken by a user in pressing a particular key or searching for a particular key.

OTHER BIOMETRIC TECHNIQUES ARE
O Vein / vascular patterns: Analyzes the

Veins in, for example, the hand and the face.

O Nail identification: Analyzes the tracks in the nails.

O DNA patterns: it is a very expensive technique and it takes a long time for verification / identification of a person

O Sweat pore analysis: Analyzes the way pores on a finger are located.

O Ear recognition: Shape and size of an ear are unique for every person.

O Odor detection: Person is verified or identified by their smell.

O Walking recognition: It analyzes the way the person walks.

METHODS OF BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION:

O VERIFICATION: is the process of verifying the user is who they claim to be.

O IDENTIFICATION: is the process of identifying the user from a set of known users.

WORKING OF BIOMETRICS:

All biometric systems work in a four-stage process that consist of the following steps.

O Capture: A biometric system captures the sample of biometric characteristics like fingerprint, voice etc of the person who wants to login to the system.

O Extraction: Unique data are extracted from the sample and a template is created. Unique features are then extracted by the system and converted into a digital biometric code. This sample is then stored as the biometric template for that individual.

O Comparison: The template is then compared with a new sample. The biometric data are then stored as the biometric template or template or reference template for that person.

O Match / non-match: The system then decides whether the features extracted from the new sample are a match or a non-match with the template. When identity needs checking, the person interacts with the biometric system, a new biometric sample is taken and compared with the template. If the template and the new sample match, the person's identity is confirmed else a non-match is confirmed.

[Biometric Authentication System and its functional components]

The Biometric authentication system includes three layered architecture:

O Enroll: A sample is captured from a device, processed into a usable form from which a template is constructed, and returned to the application.

O Verify: One or more samples are captured, processed into a usable form, and then matched against an input template. The results of the comparison are returned.

O Identify: One or more samples are captured, processed into a usable form, and matched against a set of templates. A list is generated to show how close the samples compare against the top candidates in the set.

A biometric template is an individual's sample, a reference data, which is first captured from the selected biometric device. Later, the individual's identity is verified by comparing the subsequent collected data against the individual's biometric template stored in the system. Typically, during the enrollment process, three to four samples may be captured to arrive at a representative template. The resultant biometric templates, as well as the overall enrollment process, are key for the overall success of the biometric application. If the quality of the template is poor, the user will need to go through re-enrollment again. The template may be stored, within the biometric device, remotely in a central repository or on a portable card.

Storing the template on the biometric device has the advantage of fast access to the data. There is no dependency on the network or another system to access the template. This method applies well in situations when there are a few users of the application. Storing the template in a central repository is a good option in a high-performance, secure environment. Keep in mind that the size of the biometric template variates from one vendor product to the next and is typically between 9 bytes and 1.5k. For example, as a fingerprint is scanned, up to 100 minutia points are captured and run against an algorithm to create a 256-byte binary template. An ideal configuration could be one in which copies of templates related to users are stored locally for fast access, while others are downloaded from the system if the template can not be found locally.

Storing the template on a card or a token has the advantage that the user carries his or her template with them and can use it at any authorized reader position. Users may prefer this method because they maintain control and ownership of their template. However, if the token is lost or damaged, the user would need to re-enroll. If the user base does not object to storage of the templates on the network, then an ideal solution would be to store the template on the token as well as the network. If the token is lost or damaged, the user can provide acceptable identity information to access the information based on the template that can be accessed on the network. The enrollment time is the time it takes to enroll or register a user to the biometric system. The enrollment time depends on a number of variables such as: users' experience with the device or use of custom software or type of information collected at the time of enrollment

Biometric Performance Measures:

O False acceptance rate (FAR) or False match rate (FMR): the probability that the system incorrectly Declares a successful match between the input pattern and a non-matching pattern in the database. It measures the percentage of invalid matches. These systems are critical since they are commonly used to forbid certain actions by disallowed people.

O False reject rate (FRR) or False non-match rate (FNMR): the probability that the system incorrectly Declares failure of match between the input pattern and the matching template in the database. It measures the percent of valid inputs being rejected.

O Receiver (or relative) operating characteristic (ROC): In general, the matching algorithm performances a decision using some parameters (eg a threshold). In biometric systems the FAR and FRR can typically be traded off against each other by changing those parameters. The ROC plot is obtained by graphing the values of FAR and FRR, changing the variables implicitly. A common variation is the Detection error trade-off (DET), which is obtained using normal deviate scales on both axes.

O Equal error rate (EER): The rates at which both accept and reject errors are equal. ROC or DET plotting is used because FAR and FRR can be changed, is shown clearly. When quick comparison of two systems is required, the ERR is commonly used. Obtained from the ROC plot by taking the point where FAR and FRR have the same value. The lower the EER, the more accurate the system is considered to be.

O Failure to enroll rate (FTE or FER): the percentage of data input is considered invalid and fails to input into the system. Failure to enroll happens when the data obtained by the sensor are considered invalid or of poor quality.

O Failure to capture rate (FTC): Within automatic systems, the probability that the system fails to detect a biometric character when presented correctly.

O Template capacity: the maximum number of sets of data which can be input in to the system.

For example, performance parameters associated with the fingerprint reader may be:

O a false acceptance rate of less than or equal to 0.01 percent

O a false rejection rate of less than 1.4 percent

O The image capture area is 26 x 14 mm.

Obviously, these two measures should be as low as possible to avoid authorized user rejection but keep out unauthorized users. In applications with medium security level a 10% False Rejection Error will be unacceptable, where false acceptance rate error of 5% is acceptable.

False Acceptance When a biometric system incorrectly identifies an individual or incorrectly verifies an impostor against a claimed identity. Also known as a Type II error. False Acceptance Rate / FAR

The probability that a biometric system will incorrectly identify an individual or will fail to reject an impostor. Also known as the Type II error rate.

It is stated as follows:

FAR = NFA / NIIA or FAR = NFA / NIVA

Where FAR is the false acceptance rate

NFA is the number of false acceptances

NIIA is the number of impostor identification attempts

NIVA is the number of impostor verification attempts

False Rejection Rate / FRR The probability that a biometric system will fail to identify an enrollee, or verify the legitimate claimed identity of an enrollee. Also known as a Type I error rate.

It is stated as follows:

FRR = NFR / NEIA or FRR = NFR / NEVA

Where FRR is the false rejection rate

NFR is the number of false rejections

NEIA is the number of enrollee identification attempts

NEVA is the number of enrollee verification attempts

Crossover Error Rate (CER)

Represent the point at which the false reject rate = the false acceptance rate.

Stated in percentage

Good for comparing different biometrics systems

A system with a CER of 3 will be more accurate than a system with a CER of 4

BIOMETRICS USE IN INDUSTRY

Punjab National Bank (PNB) installed its first biometric ATM at a village in Gautam Budh Nagar (UP) to spread financial inclusion. "The move would help illuminate and semi-literate customers to do banking transaction any time.

Union Bank of India biometric smart cards launched. Hawkers and small traders could avail loan from the bank using the card.

In Coca-Cola Co., hand-scanning machines are used to replace the time card monitoring for the workers. In New Jersey and six other states, fingerprint scanners are now used to crack down on people claiming welfare benefits under two different names.

In Cook County, Illinois, a sophisticated camera that analyzes the iris patterns of an individual's eyeball is helping ensure that the right people are released from jail. At Purdue University in Indiana, the campus credit union is installing automated teller machines with a finger scanner that will eliminate the need for plastic bankcards and personal identification numbers.

MasterCard International Inc. And Visa USA Inc., the world's two largest credit card companies, have begun to study the feasibility of using finger-scanning devices at the point of sale to verify that the card user is really the card holder. The scanners would compare fingerprints with biometric information stored on a microchip embedded in the credit card.
Walt Disney World in Orlando has started taking hand scans of people who purchase yearly passes. These visitors now must pass through a scanner when entering the park preventing them from lending their passes to other people.

The technology also received widespread attention at summer's Olympic Games Atlanta, where 65,000 athletes, coaches and officials used a hand-scanning system to enter the Olympic Village.

Selection of Biometric Techniques:

There are a lot of decision factors for selecting a particular biometric technology for a specific application.

1. Economic Feasibility or Cost: The cost of biometric system implementation has deteriorated recently; It is still a major barrier for many companies. Traditional authentication systems, such as passwords and PIN, require relatively little training, but this is not the case with the most commonly used biometric systems. Smooth operation of those systems requires training for both systems administrators and users.

2. Risk Analysis: -Error rates and the types of errors vary with the biometrics deployed and the circumstances of deployment. Certain types of errors, such as false matches, may pose fundamental risks to business security, while other types of errors may reduce productivity and increase costs. Businesses planning biometrics implementation will need to consider the acceptable error threshold.

3. Perception of Users: -Users generally view behavior-based biometrics such as voice recognition and signature verification as less intrusive and less privacy-enabling than physiology-based biometrics.

4. TechnoSocio Feasibility: -Organizations should focus on the user-technology interface and the conditions in the organizational environment that may influence the technology's performance. The organization should create awareness among the users how to use the techniques and should overcome the psychological factors as user fears about the technology. Organization has to also consider the privacy rights of users while implementing the biometric techniques.

5. Security: Biometric techniques should have high security standards if they will be implemented in high secure environment. The biometric techniques should be evaluated on the basis of their features, potential risk and area of application, and subjected to a comprehensive risk analysis.

6. User friendly and social acceptability -Biometric techniques should be robust and user friendly to use and they should function reliably for a long period of time. The techniques should not divide the society into two group ie digital and non digital society.

7. Legal Feasibility-Government has to form a regulatory statuary framework for the use of biometric techniques in various commercial applications. It should form a standard regulatory framework for use of these techniques in commercial applications or transactions. If required the framework has to be regulated and changed time to time.

8. Privacy-As biometric techniques rely on personal physical characteristics, an act has to be made to protect the individual's privacy data not to be used by other. A data protection law has to be created in order to protect the person's privacy data.
Criteria for evaluating biometric technologies.

The reliability and acceptance of a system depends on the effectiveness of the system, how the system is protected against unauthorized modification, knowledge or use, how the systems provide solutions to the threats and its ability and effectiveness to identify system's abuses.

These biometric methods use data compression algorithms, protocols and codes. These algorithms can be classified in three categories:

O Statistical modeling methods,

O Dynamic programming,

O Neural networks.

The mathematical tools used in biometric procedure need to be evaluated. Mathematical analysis and proofs of the algorithms need to be evaluated by experts on the particular fields. If algorithms implement "wrong" mathematics then the algorithms are wrong and the systems based on these algorithms are vulnerable. If the algorithms used in the biometric methods have "leaks", or if efficient decoding algorithms can be found then the biometric methods themselves are vulnerable and thus the systems based on these methods become unsafe.

Different algorithms offer different degrees of security, it depends on how hard they are to break. If the cost required to break an algorithm is greater than the value of the data then we are probably safe. In our case where biometric methods are used in financial transactions where a lot of money is involved it makes it worth it for an intruder to spend the money for cryptanalysis.

The cryptographic algorithms or techniques used to implement the algorithms and protocols can be vulnerable to attacks. Attacks can also be understood against the protocols themselves or aged standard algorithms. Thus criteria should be set for the proper evaluation of the biometric methods addressing these theoretic concerns.

The evaluation of the biometric systems is based on their implementation. There are four basic steps in the implementation of the biometric systems which imposes the formation of evaluative criteria.

O Capture of the users attribute.

O Template generation of the users attribute.

O Comparison of the input with the stored template for the authorized user.

O Decision on access acceptance or rejection.

Applications of biometric techniques

Biometrics is an emerging technology which has been widely used in different organization for the security purpose. Biometrics can be used to prevent unauthorized access to ATMs, cellular phones, smart cards, desktop PCs, workstations, and computer networks. It can be used during transactions conducted through telephone and Internet (electronic commerce and electronic banking). Due to increased security threats, many countries have started using biometrics for border control and national ID cards. The use of biometric identification or verification systems are widely used in different companies as well as the government agencies. The applications where biometric technique has its presence are

O Identity cards and passports.

O Banking, using ATMs, Accessing Network Resource

O Physical access control of buildings, areas, doors and cars.

O Personal identification

O Equipment access control

O Electronic access to services (e-banking, e-commerce)

O Travel and Transportation, Sporting Event

O Border control

O Banking and finance, Shopping Mall

O Airport security

O Cyber security

O Time Management in Organization

O Voice Recognition (Telebanking)

O Prison visitor monitoring system.

O Voting System

Prospects of Biometric Techniques:

The biometric industry is at an infancy stage in India, but is growing fast to capture the entire market. This technique is expanding both into private and public areas of application. Biometric applications need to interconnect to multiple devices and legacy applications. The industry market and consumer markets are adopting biometric technologies for increased security and convenience. With the decreasing price of biometric solutions and improved technology, more organization is coming forward to implement this technology. The lack of a standard regulatory framework is a major drawback in implementing biometrics in organization. It is not generally accepted by the users because some organization and society have the opinion that this technology is inappropriate and the privacy data of the users are lost. If proper regulatory framework is not established it will not be accepted by the organization as well as by the user. The devices manufactured for biometric techniques has to comply with standards Increased IT spending in the government and financial sector offers better opportunities for such deployments. Even though there are no global mandated or regulatory frame works as of now, they are expected to arrive very soon.
Standarad law and regulation will open a wide market for biometrics in electronic legal and commercial transactions.

The anti-terrorism act has introduced a wide scope for the biometric techniques to be implemented.

Consumer privacy data has to be protected in order to be widely accepted by the user.
Integration of biometric with different legacy application and hardware.

Biometric technique has a great demand in the telecommunication domain.

The notebook and laptop manufacturer has already implemented the biometric techniques like finger printing for the enhancement of the security.

The biometric industry must address major challenges related to performance, real-world utility, and potential privacy impact in order for biometrics to reach their full potential
Many companies are also implementing biometric technologies to secure areas, maintain time records, and enhance user convenience.

An interesting biometric application is linking biometrics to credit cards.

Other financial transactions could benefit from biometrics, eg, voice verification when banking by phone, fingerprint validation for e-commerce, etc. The market is huge, and covers a very wide range of hardware, applications and services.

Conclusion:

The future of this technology is booming. With the rapid increase of fraud and theft in commercial transaction; It is a great concern for the organization to use biometric as key instrument in eliminating the fraud and flaws in the traditional security approach. Both businesses and consumers are anxious for greater security in commercial transactions. The technology is increasingly reliable and affordable, and the question of the legal enforceability of electronic contracts is settled. While consumers recognize the benefits of biometric authentication, they are linked to fully accept the technology without adequate assurances that companies will keep their biometric information confidential and subject to various safeguards and the existing law providing a limited measure of protection for biometric information so serious protection should Be offered to consumers so that their personal information is not misused. Biometrics will play vital roles in the next generation of automatic identification system. Biometric identifiers must be considered when implementing a biometric-based identification system. The applicability of specific biometric techniques depends heavily on the application domain. Biometrics must be implemented properly to be effective and the consequences considered. Biometrics will become increasingly prevalent in day-to-day activities where proper identification is required. The real future of the technology lies in creating a biometric trust infrastructure that allows private sector and the public sector to handle security needs. Ultimately, such an infrastructure would allow people to move to various locations worldwide while maintaining their security clearance as defined by their physiological and behavioral identities.

Curanail kills a wide variety of different types of fungi that can cause nail infections and other related conditions. This means that, for the majority of sufferers, Curanail can actually cure the infection and with longer term use, prevent the infection from returning and causing future episodes.

What are the Ingredients in Curanail

Amorolfine is the active ingredient; Amorolfine is a tried and tested antifungal medication suitable for destroying bacteria and fungus responsible for nail fungus infection. Other ingredients that make of the medication include: methacrylic acid copolymer, triacetin, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate and ethanol.

How Does Curanail Work

The active ingredient, Amorolfine, stops the reproduction of fungi and yeast by destroying their cell membranes. Fungi and yeast naturally produce a substance called ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This prevention of production of ergosterol disrupts the cell membrane from multiplying and reproducing.

How to Apply Curanail

Of the entire commercial over the counter nail fungus treatments available, Curanail is one of the better products. It is estimated that 85% of toenail and 76% of fingernail infections are treated successfully if used as recommended.

Summary

If you have a mild or moderate nail fungus infection using Curanail will offer you a high chance of success.

Politically Correct

What do you do to stay fit?

I play one-and a half hours of pretty strenuous badminton every morning. This has been a ritual for the past 15 years. I gave up weight training some 5 years back, as it took a toll on my knee. Joints are my trouble spots: A couple of months ago I was nursing a tennis elbow after jumping into a game without warming up properly. I'm typically diligent about stretching before a badminton session, but on that day I was running short of time. I should have known better. Injury is the worst thing that can happen to a court regular. It takes just a twisted ankle or even a wrist sprain to put you out of action for several days. And not being able to play really frustrates me. Badminton is a great cardiovascular and even a total body workout. It also helps me to concentrate, strategize and to be mentally agile. However, exercise, to my mind, should be fun too, not just a routine thing you do for the benefit of your health. And badminton fits the bill on all counts.

Few Indian politicians pay attention to the state of their health. Has been fit helped you in your career?

Even a decade and half ago, it was a common to see high blood pressure, diabetes and other stress related ailments claim individuals in politics. Those days are gone. Today a lot of politicians hit the gym regularly and take steps to stay healthy. Having an ailment is a distraction. Being fit means you are able to devote more energy, more time, more focus to the task at hand. In short it help perform better.

When you are in public service, you day does not follow a set pattern. Some days you're moving form one high pressure meeting to another that demands all your mental resources. On others, you're sitting through an endless litany of complaints from the public. If you're lethargic, people will read that as disinterest in their problems and that can be perilous for a politician. When you're fit and healthy you can stay alert and show you receptive nature and readiness to react to any situation. So the discipline hat fitness traits extends into other areas of your life as well.

Politics is unpredictable. Do you always need to be armed with a Plan B and a Plan C to tackle a crisis?

Politics schools you two things flexibility and spontaneity. There are a number of times when the best of plans fail. The necessity is not always to be armed with a counter plan but to have a flexible attitude that accepts that in politics, at any given point, any challenge can surface. One needs to react with wit. The beauty of my profession in that it never allows stagnancy. There is no rule book in politics that can teach me how to react or that to do in a crisis. The crisis itself is the greatest teacher. You learn as you go, from experience.

How do you maintain cordial relations with people with what you have had a difference of opinion with or a fall-out?

The most difficult task expected of a politician is to keep his cool no matter what the circumstance. Remember, at the end of the day we are human beings. Not everyone can take everything in his stride with a smile. All we ca do is strive hard to do so, sometimes we succeed and sometimes we do not. It is through this maturity to be at ease with the people with what you have a difference of opinion or a fall-out.

Of course age and experience also helps you to develop this attitude. When a politician expires at say, 54, we say 'Hum ne ek yuva neta khoya' (We have lost a young leader). Because that's about when wisdom sets in. It's also the reason an 80-year-old prime minister does not raise any eyebrows.

Politics is a profession where you have to work among your well wishers as well as foes. At no point can you overreact to a situation. You may be aware that the person you are talking to is probably trying his best to pull you down, but you still need to prevent any aggressive feelings from spilling forth. I think I have almost got too the state where I can set out differences and work with just about anyone.

Is every relationship in politics calculated ie developed purely to meet certain goals?

To be very honest and frank, there's no one right now down I can definitely call a friend, or a confidante. I do have multiple buddies, but I tend to compartmentalize my relations with them. Like my lawyer is a very good friend but I would not discuss politics with him.

Then I have selected cronies with whatever I can discuss political issues but nothing personal. I do not see this as a problem, or that I'm emotionally bankrupt. Rather it means I'm not dependent on any one person for anything. It's a practical approach. You need time to build trust and develop it in others. I have not quite reached that state where one confidante can do the trick.

But a politician has to gain the trust of others to build a following. How do you do that?

This is where I wish there is some kind of gizmo that I could use to make others believe in me. Unfortunately that is not possible. When I encounter suspicion and doubt. I realize then that had I been in that person's shoes I would have reacted in a similar manner. People do not believe in you simply because you're exhorting them to do so. It's through your actions that you convince them and win over followers. It's not completed skills you've also got to be patient and dedicated. At the end of the day it's how you make others feel that counts and not what others feel about your achievements. No matter what field you're in, people are put off by arrogance. They're drawn to humility and by this I do not mean the artificial caricature of politicians, but rather the kind that comes out of accepting ground realities.

I keep my pantry stocked with the chicken noodle soup and blackberry pie filling, and my medicine cabinet stocked with bandages and other medical remedies. The Ways of the Blooming Orchids

How long does it take for an orchid factory to rebloom? The answer is: it depends. I’m not difficult to elude your subject, just being proper. The veracity of the issue of when an orchid will develop again depends ahead what kind of orchid it is. Most orchids will give blooms once a year but there are some which are competent of producing blooms numerous time a year if the rising conditions are just right, if not very right they should still glow once a year. Since your orchid in grow last Christmas, my estimate is that it should do so at that time again.

Since it is already October, if it were to flourish at Christmas time this year, it should be showing prove of a new flower stem upward. Nevertheless, depending on what kind of orchid you have, it can take from one month to six months for a new flower stem to be in gorged develop once it begins to grow.

On most orchids, once the plants have all died and fallen off, you may eliminate the stem by biting it off down near the ignoble of the flower stem. Before acerbic off the stem, take a look at the top or tip of the stem to see if it has begun to dry, if it does onset to dry that means the stem is final and may be impassive. If there are any bulbs on the orchid, you should instigate them unaided as they are a stock of wetness and nutrients for the orchid.

Most dendrobiums are not that hard to grow but receiving them to tinge reliably is the hard part. Moving them to Florida will make it easier. Why? The climate and sunshine it will hear all year phase slightly than the cold darkness in Indiana. Dendrobiums choose restful lively endure, the will mood and even die under cold evil conditions.

From your description of them, I take it that they are of the evergreen family of dendrobiums. If they were from the deciduous family you would have mentioned that some of the growths had aimless all their trees. The important difference between the two families is the evergreens do not like dry conditions while deciduous ones ought a pronounced dry epoch.

Why your evergreen dendrobiums have not rebloomed for you is in what you said “Since it is so cold and darkness here in Indiana.” Whether in Indiana or Florida, place them in a position with dazzling indirect sunlight, temperatures between 60 to 85%F, dampness above 50%, light air advance around them. A good way to tell if it is getting enough light is to look at the trees, they will be a standard green flush when it is just right.

A word of caution if you take them to Florida, move them into any new light conditions slowly over numerous weeks, as too abrupt an exposure to brighter light may cause suntan of the trees. If potential, try exposing them to temperatures in the mid 50%F’s for a month in the plunge, that may help trigger them into the flourish cycle.

If, by attempt, the grass plummet off, ditch the growths on the dendrobium as they are a storerooms means for moisture and nutrients. Only detach the growths that happen to be failing. As for those new growths, they may happen to rest rising due to the cold brown weather but should benefit back up once effects temperate up and they obtain more light.

You do not have to wait at a bruise to isolate the lettering of orchid that it is if it is one of the more normally presented orchids. The most usual is “phalaenopsis” that has large spherical to diamond trees at the origin of the factory and the flower spike grows from the head of the plants. Other joint types are “the dendrobium, the female slippers, and the Cattleyas.” Each has a distinctive vegetative organize. If there was no tag with the hide, then I’m scared there is no way to know the name of the cross since so many different hybrids have analogous flower types and colors.

There are three principal types of containers for orchids. Phalaenopsis and female slipper orchids are commonly developed in a synthetic pot, the heavier or more top harsh plants such as dendrobiums or cattleyas are better maintained in earth pots. Baskets are cool for vandaceous orchids and want a very sultry environment because the mix dries out very suddenly. I would use a commercially ready orchid mix that you can buy in bags at patch centers and bunch marketers. I would steep this mix overnight before using it and drain it well before potting up your orchid yard in it.

Orchids that have strand leaves generally get that way from having developed in upbeat sunlight. That suggests to you that each, it was neglected or it likes bright light. It is not uncommon for orchids to outgrow their pots. Many feel this is the time divide and repot the yard, but that is personal preference. Many orchids do just slender execution way out of the pot.

Since I don’t know what font of orchid you have, I can only hazard a speculate that they roots emerging from the pot drainage holes. Some orchids forward out bruise spikes from the vile of the conceal but those are potted in baskets not clay pots.

For now, if the factory looks well,I would renounce it as is awaiting you get a farther development such as acme, plant die back, new evolution starting, etc. Orchids put on new cyst once a year and typically, but not always, in the mechanism. Just keep an eye on it and it should be thin. Then you will be able to know what sort of orchid it is by the bloom. If not just go back to where you got the orchid and see if they know what typeface of orchid it is.
