One that has a warranty of 1 to 3 years, preferably 3 years. If it is not too expensive, purchase an extended warranty if the PC only comes with a 1 year warranty. Check what the warranty covers and if it comes with an on-site or return to base warranty.

An on-site warranty is where the service technician comes out to your house to service your computer. This removes the hassle of having to disconnect your computer system, and take it into the service center for service. Though it is more convenient for you to have an on-site warranty, it is not essential, just as long as you have a warranty cover of some sort.

Check if the computer repairs are performed locally or does the computer have to be sent away. If it has to be sent away, inquire as to what the repair turnaround time usually is.

It is much better to purchase a computer that has a local service center, as the repair turnaround time should be a lot shorter. It also has the advantage of you being able to deal with the service center personally if you have any issues, as opposed to dealing with a call center by phone in another part of the country or overseas.


If you want to do email, chat and view the family via the internet or printout letters, then you will need to purchase additional hardware items, such as a web camera, an inkjet or laser printer, a broadband modem and a broadband package for internet use.

Web cameras are not expensive, so purchase a good quality one. A good entry-level inkjet or laser printer these days are not expensive either, but one important thing to find out before you buy a printer is the cost of its consumables i.e. ink cartridges for the inkjet printer and the laser cartridge and drum for the laser printer. Virgin or extra virgin oils are great for eating, but have a rich smell which is overpowing in an infused oil or ointment.

As a base for injected oils, I use the less expensive (and less aromatic) pomace oil – made by pressing the ground pits after the olives have been squeezed dry. No matter what type you use, fancy or plain, olive oil will no doubt uphold its ancient and venerable reputation for healing and nourishing skin and scalp.

PLANTAIN LEAF OIL ( Plantago lancelota, P. majus )

With its brilliant color and its solid reputation as a breast cancer preventive, plantain oil / ointment is another favorite for breast self massage. Frequent applications of the jewel-green oil – as many as ten times a day – have been used successfully by women to reverse in situ cancer cells in the breasts. Plantain oil is very easy to make at home. (The aroma of the finished oil reminds me of salami.) Jethro Kloss, author of the classic herbal Back to Eden , used freshly grown raw poke root poultices to burn away breast cancer. Caution : Fresh poke placed directly on the skin is strong enough to damage healthy tissues as well as cancerous ones.

The infused oil is also effective and far safer. A generous amount is gently applied to the lump, covered with a flannel cloth and then with a hot water bottle (no heating pads), and left on for as long as you're comfortable. It's gentle enough for regular use in breast self-massage.

ST. JOAN'S WORT BLOSSOM OIL ( Hypericum perforatum )

For long-term pain, I use oil and tincture as frequently as needed, sometimes as often as ten times a day.

St. Joan's wort oil is also the best remedy I've found to treat the pain and promote rapid healing of nerves and skin troubled by shingles, cold sores, mouth and anal fissures, genital herpes, and chicken pox. Hourly applications of oil, plus 25 drops of tincture taken internally at the same time, are not excessive in the initial, acute stages of these problems. As symptoms abate, I use fewer applications. In chronic conditions, I use the oil and tincture four times a day. Used as a scalp oil during chemotherapy, St. Joan's wort encourages rapid regrowth of healthy hair.

YARROW FLOWER OIL ( Achillea millefolium )

Yarrow flowers and leaves infused in oil make a sparkling green oil that promotes fluid flow in the breasts and inhibits bacterial growth. Women have noted that consistent use of yarrow oil seems to prevent the growth of new blood vessels that cancer tumors need for growth. Yarrow is also a wonderful ally for relieving swollen, tender breasts and nipples. As it may irritate the skin lightly, I use yarrow only as needed.

Hot and Cold Shoes

The camera accessory shoe was an invention of Leica, way back at the beginning of the 20th century (in about 1910). Its purpose was to provide a mounting point for anything that needed to be temporarily attached to a camera. Initially, this would have been an aerial viewfinder for cameras with interchangeable lenses, a rangefinder, or maybe a light meter.

The camera accessory shoe started-out as a small flat metal bracket, where two opposite sides are folded at 90 degrees, and then folded over again to provide a pair of parallel channels: a sort of open-ended slot. Camera accessories had a similarly sized flat plate, or "foot" (as in a foot fits into a shoe), that inserted into this slot, and so connected the two items. By the 1950s (or possibly earlier), most cameras had an accessory shoe.

Some shoes had the modest refinements of small leaf springs in the channels – to grip anything inserted, and a tiny pillar at the front opening – to prevent items from sliding in one side and out the other. Alternately, designers partly inset the accessory shoe into the camera body to achieve a one-way entry.

While an accessory shoe is typically located on the top of the camera body today, in the past many models have incorporated it in a variety of different locations (eg on the base plate, or side of the camera, etc.).

In 1938, the American-made Univex Mercury CC was the first camera to have an accessory shoe specifically for flash: indeed it had two accessory shoes, one of which was for flashbulbs. Although not its original purpose (and nothing to do with the Mercury's innovation), over time the accessory shoe became primarily used for the connection of a flash unit, as integral light meters and rangefinders bigger more common.

Traditionally, flash units had been "connected" (as opposed to mounted) to the camera via a PC terminal (where PC comes from "Prontor-Compur") by means of a cable. By about 1960, the PC socket was almost universal, and most cameras had one. A switch inside the camera closes a circuit between the two conductors of the PC connector just as the shutter opens, which then fires the flash at the right moment.

This change in the use of the accessory shoe sparked the incorporation of an electrical contact – within the shoe – for flash synchronization. In effect, the PC socket was moved to the shoe, which dispensed with the need for a cable. The new "wired" shoe became known as a "hot shoe", and the old unwired shoes were retrosively renamed as cold shoes. There does not appear to be any recorded claim of the first camera with a hot shoe (other than the out-there Mercury), but they were certainly around in the 1950s (the Argus C4 of 1952 had one), and started appearing more routinely In the mid 1960s (for example, the 1965 Canonet QL 19E and the 1966 Minolta Hi-matic 7s both had one).

Hot shoes took a long time to become a standard feature, and new camera models with cold shoes were still being brought to market in the mid 1970s. Indeed, some camera designs made the accessory shoe a removable and optional extra (and inherently "cold"), such as the 1971 Fujica ST701 and the 1973 Pentax SP1000.

In 1977, the common dimensions of an accessory shoe were agreed and rated by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 518: 1977 (although this specification was superseded in 2006). This standard stipulated the dimensions of a shoe, and specified that these could be changed when the shoe was provided with springs or other means for holding the accessory foot tightly, or maintaining a good electrical contact (provided interchange ability and functions were not affected). By 1977 the hot shoe's function as an electrical contact had been commemorated as a standard.

The hot shoe design, along with other photographic product innovations, changed rapidly through the early 1980s and became ever more sophisticated. It sprouted additional electrical contacts to provide greater information exchange between cameras and flash units. While some manufacturers conformed to the latest ISO standards, other did not, and hot shoe systems diverged.

Today, a dedicated flash can exchange a wealth of information with the camera, and perform a host of functions (such as provision of a focus-assist light). The most fashionable hot shoe available designs 24 different electrical pins. "Dedicated" has become a key word – because differences abound.

Aside from all the electronic advances, the accessory shoe has not lost touch with its beginnings. It can and is still used to fasten microphones, tripod bushes, spirit levels, multiple shoe brackets, plus anything else that traditionally attached to a camera. It's come a long way, and at the same time, it has not!

Eating Disorder History

The two major eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Anorexia involves a person starving themselves to keep weight off, sometimes this includes excessive amounts of exercise. Anorexics try to keep the weight off in this manner. When a person has bulimia, they binge and then they purge (vomit).

Anorexia was described in 17th century England, but it was not seen as an illness at that time but more of a peculiarity. In the 1870’s, a professor by the name of Ernest Lasegue first identified anorexia as an illness while studying the case of a woman called Catherine of Siena. She ate only herbs and would sometimes use a twig to make herself throw up.

It took a long time for anorexia to be made public. The first public talk of it began in the 1970’s, but even then it was seen as a youthful trend of non-eating and not as the deadly disease it is known to be today. At the end of the 1970’s, a book called “The Golden Cage” described dozens of cases of anorexia in young women. The author, psychologist Hilde Bruch, claimed then that anorexia was becoming a huge problem in universities.

Research done in the 70’s showed anorexia as a societal illness, meaning people who have the disorder have been influenced by society in such a way that they feel they have to starve to be thin. They reflect the culture in which we live.

In the last 40 years, anorexia nervosa has been closely studied in the United States and Great Britain. People know much more about both anorexia and bulimia.

There is evidence to show that many people in ancient Greece “practiced” bulimia. Two well known Roman emperors- Vitellius and Claudius are now known to have been bulimic. The evidence for it comes from old Roman books. Bulimia is also described in ancients texts from Arabia and Greece.

In the latter part of the 20th century, bulimia first became known as an eating disorder. It was seen as a problem affecting college-age females.

Since then, bulimia has become an even bigger problem than anorexia.

3). Exercise. Besides staving off heart disease and osteoporosis, regular workouts improve mood and overall well-being. Try: Aerobic activities like walking, dancing, running and cross-country skiing if you live in a place where it snows or you are able and willing to travel to where it does. Also combine along with weight lifting. Try to fit in at least three 20 minute sessions a week. Develop Good Habits and Get Rid of Bad Ones. Hot flashes can often be controlled by stopping smoking, limiting your intake of alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods.

Alternatives to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) If you choose not to go on hormone replacement therapy due to the side effects of it, there are other options for relieving problems associated with menopause.

Alendronate (Fosamax), When approved by the FDA, this drug was the first no hormone remedy for osteoporosis. In two large studies, Alendronate was given in conjunction with daily calcium supplements. Results: Bone density increased by 8% at the hip and spine. The rate of fractures fell by 63%.

Calcitonin-Salmon (Miacalcin). This nasal spray is another option for osteoporosis. It is good for women who are more than five years past menopause and who have low bone mass. Two year studies have proven that the drug quickly increases bone mineral density in the spine, more slowly in the forearm or hip. For maximum effectiveness, it must be taken with at least 1,000 mg calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D a day.

Progestin. If your only problem is hot flashes, oral Progestin (without estrogen) may help. But it will not help other menopause symptoms, and it may boost your risk of heart disease.

Relaxation. Biofeedback, deep breathing, yoga and meditation can all be used to reduce the intensity of hot flashes. Vaginal Lubricants. If you experience vaginal discomfort during intercourse, Replens or K-Y Jelly can help. Also helpful: Having sex on a regular basis.

A Treatment with Promise. The combination of twice-daily slow release fluoride tablet and 400 mg of calcium has been shown to reduce spinal fractures by 70% among women suffering from osteoporosis, and build bone mass in the hip and spine at the rate of 2% to 6% a year.

UNPROVEN REMEDIES Some doctors believe that mega doses of vitamins E and C reduce menopause symptoms and cut the risk of heart disease and cancer. Vitamin E may also relieve hot flashes and vaginal dryness. However, their role in treating menopause symptoms remains unproven, especially when taken in supplement form. Doctors do not recommend them.

Likewise, there is a lot of hype about herbal remedies like dong quai, sarsaparilla, red clover or damiana, but there is no evidence that any of these work.

Athlete’s Foot (tinea Pedis) Drug Treatment

Many individuals have a resistant fungal infection and supportive measures such as keeping dry and clean do not help. Sometimes the athlete’s foot is recurrent and in such cases, it is best to see a health care professional.

Medicated Powders: Today there are many types of anti fungal powders available without a physician’s prescription. The most common powder used to treat athlete’s foot is miconazole. The medicated powder not only kills the fungus but keeps the foot dry. The powder should be used twice a day. One may need to apply the powder for a few weeks to ensure that the fungus has been eradicated.

Other anti fungal medications include clotrimazole and terbinafine. These are available as sprays and a cream which also have to be applied twice a day. There are several anti fungal pills available (fluconazole, itraconazole) which can be used to treat athlete’s foot. These medications require a prescription from a physician. In most cases, a 2-3 week course of anti fungal pills should be adequate. Once the fungus has disappeared one should adopt strict cleanliness and maintain dryness of the foot. Tinea has a habit of recurring when the conditions are warm and humid.

Frequently the tinea pedis is neglected and the infection may spread to the toe nails. This normally happens because most people only apply the medications on the skin and not on the nails. Once a toe nail has been infected by a fungus, it is almost impossible to get rid of the infection. While one can apply anti fungal treatment to the nails this may take months. And in some cases one may have to take oral anti fungal medications with no guarantee that they will work. The best and easiest solution for a full blown fungal infection of the nail is to simply get the physician to remove the toe nail. This can be accomplished in a few minutes, is relatively painless and will save you lots of time and aggravation- not to mention the money for the expensive creams and lotions.

Find The Demon Inside Your Mind

In order to fix something, you must first know that it is broken. Now you can target the part that is broken, and then fix it. The problem is that although most people are aware there is something wrong, they do not know what the real problem is, and so can not fix it. This is commonly expressed with the question of; "Why do I do what I know is bad for me, but do not do what is good for me."

How often do you know what you should or should not do, and then do the opposite? How can this be explained given that you assume yourself to be a normal, sane person. Why do we consciously go against nature and hurt ourselves either by actions we should not do, such as getting drunk when we know it is not healthy or safe, and likewise, not do what we know we must, such as talking to that attractive person You desire.

Both common and simple examples that from the outside objective point of view would describe someone who is not in control of themselves. Needless to say, if early in the conversation with a new person, or even an old friend, if you said that there is a little creativity inside you that made you do not go well.

In the case of low self-esteem and a feeling of self-hate to any degree, the negative feelings are enhanced and get a tighter grip on us each time we fail to act according to what we desire and know is really so simple for any 'Normal' person. This just makes it worse next time.

I propose that the machine of your mind is broken and, that there actually is a little gremlin inside you who is controlling your thoughts and actions. Of course I am speaking metaphorically, but there are times you can almost feel this little monster in your head telling you things. Let go of your fear of sounding crazy, no one can read your thoughts, just think about it. When you are in the situation that fear or lack of self-confidence paralyses you, does it almost feel like there is someone chocking you, or nailing your feet to the ground so you can not step forward and speak up?

The problem is not that you can not speak, rather it is the negative emotions you feel towards yourself in frustration of your limitations. Ponder this thought; "If I know what I should do, and I know that it is really as simple as talking, which I do all the time anyway, why is it at this moment I can not speak? What is really preventing me?"

Of course you will list the usual text book reasons, low self-esteem, your parents put you down as a child, you never received encouragement, etc. But those are not the pair of hands you feel chocking you at the moment. What if there really was some little gremlin inside that was controlling and preventing you from moving and speaking?

Bear with me please before you write me off as a nut, remember this is a metaphoric way of conveying a concept in order to see the mind as a machine which is broken and needs repair. The analogy of my little gremlin is expressed in the example of riding a horse for the first time. You get up on the horse and you are told to pull the reigns and say 'Whoa' when you want the horse to stop. The lovely horse is walking along gently, then all of a sudden takes off at full speed.

You are hanging on for your life, scared that you will fall off and break your back, or worse. You pull the reigns and scream profanities at the horse, but it will not stop or slow down for anything. How do you feel? A lot like the fool who puts one foot in his mouth after the other or is standing there in front of the most beautiful woman with his mouth frozen like stone. Totally helpless.

You are not in control of your own body or mind. Much like the rider on the horse, you will be taken where the horse goes and have no ability to stop it. The difference is, when the ride is over, you curse the horse, but when the night is over, you curse yourself.

Knowing the machine is broken prevents feeling the negative emotions when we fail or find ourselves believing the lie that we can do things differently but do not. Yes, freedom of choice is a lie, we do not have it. Certainly you make choices in your life, but possessing quality means it is always at your disposal, and you can see how you and everyone else, simply does not really possess freedom of choice. We are all riders on a wild horse who just happens to walk slowly at times and then run wild at others. Do not be fooled into thinking you are in control just because the horse wants to rest.

The first step is to realize you do not have freedom of choice, the evidence is plentiful. If this is true, as I am sure you will find with enough observation, then who exactly is in control? Another point to make is that when you are angry and negative, depressed and lost in self-pity, you do not think straight. This means you will not be able to see the gremlin who is controlling and binding you.

By eliminating the negative emotions, we are changing our state of mind and gaining freedom from the broken machine that is run by a gremlin inside our body (again just a useful image to help understand this) by staying calm enough that we can see it at Work.

I am very fixed on the belief that we must take responsibility for all our actions, however as all rules have an exception, so does this one. When you find yourself in the situation that the gremlin is in control, you must know that is not you. You are being manipulated like the hypnotist who gets the subject to eat a raw onion and imagine it is a sweet apple. It is not you who is frozen, it is the gremlin controlling you.

As long as we remain negative, that keeps the machine broken and allows the gremlin to stay in control. If you are no longer negative and accept that you are fine, but you simply do not have the freedom to choose your actions, that you are a puppet controlled by a little man behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz will be exposed and lose his Power.

We stay negative through our self lie that we are capable of doing anything, but in fact, the truth, proven by our lack of ability to act, shows we are not capable of actually 'doing' but are only a rider on a horse being Led through the course of actions and emotions. If you think it is you, then you are a mess of confusion as to why you are paralleled. But if you know that you are being controlled beyond your ability to act, then you have no choice but to submit. This is the time that condemning responsibility can be beneficial if you do not make it just an excuse.

The power to control you comes fully from your own negative emotions. That is the food which keeps the gremlin in power. If you want to conquer a formidable enemy, you must first starve him to near death, and when he is weak enough, you can get him to succumb to you and become a slave instead of master.

The creation inside me ever lost the ability to control me when I looked at it long enough and knew it was controlling me. I was free of my master when I saw I had a master and then, looking straight in his face, refuse to be his slave.

The Sufi call this creature the Nafs. This is often translated as the ego, and there are many kinds of Nafs to describe the many different natures of the ego, but here we will just group them all into one. The Sufi also have a saying; "He who knows his Nafs, Knows God."

That is very telling indeed. They do not say, he who kills, defeats, destroys, removes, or any other such term. They say 'know'. By knowing, we accomplish the same thing as defeating. I shall explain.

You can not exist in this world without your personality, which is your ego, so we can not kill it. The problem is the ego, Nafs, gremlin, is in control of our mind and makes us do all the stupidities that we do. So we can not live with it, nor without it. All we can do is see it, and in so doing, it loses its power once we know who is behind our foolish actions.

It takes time, but the more you follow the exercise, the stronger your vision of the Nafs will become and eventually the Nafs will become weaker enough that it will not have the power to control, or paralyze you with fear.

The exercise is to observe your actions, and the actions of other people. Look for events in which you can not explain the actions other than by saying that you or they must be controlled by someone else. It is that simple. Gather as much evidence to prove that there must be some other creature in control.

You can make a list of your life, the major events in which you clearly knew what you should or should not do, there was ample evidence as to what the correct choice was, yet you did the opposite. How else could this happen? You are defending your case to prove the existence of the Nafs in front of a judge and jury with evidence that can not be otherwise explained.

Occasionally, you will be master and in control your life to be able to do whatever you choose.

10 Tips for Airline Travel Well-Being

With travel season coming up it is good to remember that with travel, planning is everything. The proactive travel plan can ease frustrations and minimize stress, both of which are at odds with the well-being lifestyle. 5. As you prepare to go through the security checkpoint, stop, look and listen.

6. Stay hydrated. Try to drink about 8-ounces of water every few hours. 7. Pack two to three pocket-size bottles of hand sanitizer to aid in keeping your hands germ-free.

9. During the flight, try to contract the muscles in your calves, lift your feet off the floor and rotate your ankles to keep the blood flowing. If you can, a stroll down the aisle is a good idea too. Get your body moving as much as you can, to avoid deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots developing during the flight.

10. And last but not least, smile. I won’t fall back on that cliché about smiling, but do know that smiling relieves stress, generates “feel-good” emotions and smiles are contagious!
