Diabetes on the Rise!

The information in this piece, was taken from an article which appeared in the Albuquerque Journal (July, 2006), and was written by Lisa Roberts of the Orlando Sentinel. The article talks about the dangers of diabetes and what can be done to treat and prevent it. The newspaper article here has been quoted … I have paraphrased certain parts, and I have added my own two cents, etc.

One of the questions I always ask my doctor, when I go in to see the results of a physical examination every year … is if there is anything seriously wrong with the physical like cancer; Diabetes or another life-threatening disease! I can wait for all that other stuff in the medical report. When he says, "no, everything is fine," I'm relieved, to say the least!

In the past, I have known two people who have died from diabetes. My Aunt Molly and the man who lived next door to my parents. Both of them met a similar fate … as they both became blind; Both had a leg amputated, and both were in their early 50's when they passed away. (Much too young!)

Before I got laid off from one of my jobs, I worked side by side with a fellow for over six years. He was overweight, and apparently did not take enough care of the problem. One day, he went to the doctor for a check-up and he got the bad news … he had diabetes! I noticed the change of attitude right away. He became withdrawn; Reserved; Distant and he told me depression was beginning to set in. Because I like to be around people with a good sense of humor, I noticed that his sense of humor had changed as well … for the worse! (I can not blame him for that)

* Article: "If you do not know someone with diabetes, there's a good chance you will someday. A recent study found the occurrence of Type 2 diabetes has doubled over the last 30 years. .more than 73 million … suffer diabetes or may be developing it. Simply put, it's an epidemic, and it's driven by sedentary lifestyle and obesity, the up swing of which closely parallels the growth of the disease, says Dr. Kimberley Bourne , A Orlando Fla., Endocrinologist who treats diabetics. "

* My two cents: In my article, "How I Lost 40 Pounds," the thought of getting diabetes was one of my main concerns and motivators, as I fear getting any life-threatening disease! And, because diabetes affects mostly people who are overweight. I knew when I stepped off that scale in the doctor's office, that I was going to lose the 40 pounds, which was my goal. And, I did not care how long it took … 6 months … a year or longer! THE WEIGHT WAS GOING TO COME OFF!

* Article: "Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce properly, or ignores insulin." The hormone regulates the metabolism of blood glucose … sugar … which fuels our cells. Up in the body and coat blood vessels and nerves. Left untreated, the disease can cause an array of devastating maladies, including blindness; cardiovascular disease; and kidney failure. When glucose interrupts impulses and blood flow to extremities, diabetics sometimes are unaware of things Such as cuts, scrapes, and blisters, which may become infected. In some cases, an amputation may be necessary. "

* My Two Cents: The exercise for me consists of walking and jogging 10-15 miles a week in 1986, and in the year 2006, I still do my walking and jogging every week. I really did not know very much about diabetes, until I read a few articles, and after I did, I knew I would stay with it for the rest of my life, as I hope I well be able to do so.

* Article: "Although the exact cause of diabetes has not been determined, research has repeatedly pointed the finger at OBESITY as despite the greatest risk of all. As weight increases, the pancreas pumps out more and more insulin to handle increased blood sugar, "Says Dr. Bourne.

* My Two Cents: For me, exercise is so easy, and can be done almost any time or any place. For example; There are times when I watch a football game on television, and I do not needarily need to watch the half-time activities. So, it's easy for me to go outside and run a mile or so, and then walk back to cool off. That takes about twenty minutes, and when I get back, it's time for the second half of the ballgame to start. I get to watch the ballgame and get a little exercise at the same time.

In 2005, I was hospitalized for over three months, and I would walk up and down the hallways everyday to try to get some sort of exercise. I did it so much during the three months, that I can tell you just how many floor tiles are in Ward 5B and Ward 5C! (Is not this exciting?) I pushed my little walker (beep-beep) … and, putt-putted my way around the hospital to get my exercise. But, I was not the only "crazy" person walking up and down the halls! Several of the other veterans would walk up and down the halls as well, etc. So, getting exercise is easy, and can be done almost anywhere.

* Article: "Prevention and early treatment of diabetes are paramount goals," says Mark Williams, CEO of Community Health Centers Inc., which operates a network of Central Florida clinics and offers diabetes screening. 'As a community, diabetes is one of those diseases That screams' treat me early 'so we can avoid complications, because complications are so very expensive.' "

* My Two Cents: The walking and jogging I do, takes care of the lower body, and I've been "pumping aluminum," to take care of the upper body. When I went to the sports section of a department store looking for the location of the dumb bells, I asked the clerk where the dumb bells were … and he just looked at ME!

* Article: "At the Florida Hospital Diabetes Center in Orlando, diabetics are proving that eating well and working out can help control the disease." Gym members test their blood before and after their workouts, and the difference they see in their blood sugar after exercising Motivates them to keep on the move, says Paul Frickman, the center's exercise coordinator. It's not unusual to see blood sugar tumble from, say 140 to the norman range, which is between 70 and 100. The benefit of a workout lasts from 24 to 72 hours. Another bonus: 'When you exercise, sugar goes into your body without the assistance of insulin,' he says, so a diabetic's reliance on drugs may lessen. "

* My Two Cents: I've never done exercise on a treadmill. I've always liked to go outdoors and "smell the roses," watch the sun rise and set on the horizon, and watch the leaves turn color, etc. We're becoming a country of concrete and asphalt, so I like to get a little dirt and grass under my feet once in a while.

* Article: "Talar Glover, a clinical nurse specialist at the center, says today's super sized meal portions and fat-and-sugar laden foods, as well as a variety of social conditions, are helping to fuel the disease. Is about eating excess sugar, 'it's not about sugars … it's about carbohydrates. They turn into sugar,' she says. That's why diets should be based on a balance of meat, fruits, vegetables, dairy produce and whole grains. "

For over twenty years, exercising has been a way of life for me, and my health has been my top priority. I have to get out and get my "fix" every week of running and jogging! "Sweat therapy," has helped me to sleep better; Reduce the stress in my life; Be more creative; Clear the cob webs from my head; Get more ideas; And solve problems too, etc.

And, I'll keep doing what I've been doing over the past twenty years … that is … walking, jogging, and "pumping aluminum." But, as I grow older, I have to make some changes. I will now have to start "pumping aluminum foil," instead!

Early Symptoms of Diabetes to Look Out For

Diabetes mellitus is a common disease which affects many people worldwide. Chronic uncontrolled diabetes is a major source of death and disability because of the damage it causes to many different tissues and organ systems throughout the body. Over time it causes blood vessel disease which can lead to heart disease and heart attack, stroke and peripheral vascular disease. It also has negative effects on the kidneys, eyes and the immune system, to name just a few other long-term damaging effects of diabetes.

Because it is so common and so damaging, many people begin to wonder how to know if they have diabetes. What are the early symptoms of diabetes to look out for? This is actually a very important question because the earlier diabetes is caught, the better the chance of treating it effectively and preventing or minimizing the long-term complications that can occur.

The hallmark of diabetes is poorly controlled blood sugar (glucose). Normally, the blood glucose level hovers throughout the day in a fairly tightly controlled range. Insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas, helps to lower levels of glucose while other hormones (and eating carbohydrates) raise them. The balance between them helps keep glucose levels normal. In diabetes there is an imbalance because insulin is not working as it should to lower blood sugar levels. The glucose goes up and stays high at most times. This high level of glucose in the blood is termed hyperglycemia.

Diabetes Symptoms

When blood sugar levels are very high there are a number of acute symptoms which can occur. The most common are the three ‘P’s’, polyphagia (increased hunger), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyuria (frequent urination). The high blood sugar causes the blood to become thickened, more concentrated, because of the sugar dissolved in it. Sugar also gets dumped in the urine by the kidney which pulls water with it, dehydrating the body and further concentrating body fluids. The net effect is that the body gets dehydrated and urination increases. The brain senses the dehydration and causes an increased sense of thirst and hunger. Other symptoms that can occur with hyperglycemia include blurred vision, fatigue, dry mouth, dry or itchy skin and recurrent infections (such as vaginal yeast infections, groin rashes and others), among others.

Early Diabetes Symptoms

However, these symptoms generally only occur with quite high levels of blood sugar when diabetes is quite severe. In early diabetes, symptoms can be less common. In fact, in very early diabetes patients may be completely asymptomatic, meaning they have no symptoms. Also, the early symptoms may be mild and may not be noticed or passed off as something less important. At this early stage, sometimes referred to as prediabetes, the blood glucose levels are elevated above normal, but not yet in the high range which could be diagnosed as diabetes. While it is not yet severe, it is still important because the increased sugar may already be doing damage to your organs and most people with prediabetes will go on to develop diabetes in time if they do not make changes in their life to prevent it.

So if early symptoms are absent or mild how do you know if you should be worried about diabetes? For one, simply educating yourself (as you are doing now) about the signs and symptoms of diabetes help to make you more aware so that if you do experience early symptoms you recognize them. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you have any concern or suspicion, seek the advice of your own doctor. They can counsel you about your risks for diabetes and perform simple tests which can help identify early diabetes.

Diabetes Risk Factors

One final suggestion is to learn more about your own risk for diabetes. Even if you do not yet have symptoms, knowing whether you are at high risk for developing diabetes can help you to be aware and get screened early. The most common form of diabetes is called Type II Diabetes, adult-onset diabetes or non-insulin dependent diabetes. While it generally occurs in adults it can affect younger individuals too, particularly if they are considerably overweight. Many of the risk factors for this type of diabetes are well understood. First and foremost, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle (lack of physical activity) both increase your risk for type II diabetes considerably. There is also a strong genetic link to diabetes which means that family history and ethnicity are important predictors. If you have close family members (parents and/or siblings especially) with Type II diabetes then your risk is greater. Also, individuals of African American, Native American, some Asian and Latino decent are at highest risk for diabetes. Age is also an important factor. As mentioned above, while diabetes can occur at almost any age, its risk increases as one gets older. Finally, in women, a history of gestational diabetes, high blood sugar during pregnancy, is another risk factor.

If you have one or more of these risk factors, your chances of developing diabetes are greater than the general public and you should be on the look out for it. Talk to your doctor about it and ask if getting screened for prediabetes or diabetes is advisable. Also, if you think you are at risk for diabetes or know you have early diabetes, there are changes you can make to help prevent it progressing and causing long-term complications. While some of the risk factors cannot be changed (age, family history, ethnicity, etc.), some are called modifiable risk factors which can be changed. If you improve them, your risk for diabetes will decrease. The best examples are obesity and sedentary lifestyle. Increasing physical activity and exercise both help to control blood glucose and help to control weight. Improving diet and losing weight can significantly improve your body’s ability to keep glucose in a normal range. Other factors, such as quitting smoking, and lowering blood pressure and cholesterol can be useful as well. While they do not directly impact diabetes, they are also risk factors for heart disease, stroke and other blood vessel diseases. Controlling diabetes as well as these other risk factors will greatly decrease your chances of developing these diseases as well.

A Note on Type I Diabetes

Type I Diabetes, also known as juvenile-onset diabetes and insulin dependent diabetes, is a less common form of diabetes. It most commonly presents in childhood although it can affect anyone. In a sense it is a more severe form of the disorder because the pancreas which secretes insulin is completely dysfunctional and there is little or no insulin secreted. Therefore, this form generally presents earlier with more severe symptoms. Patients can quickly develop severe hyperglycemia and the symptoms associated with it (increased thirst, hunger, frequent urination, etc.). In addition, if untreated by insulin injections, patients can develop diabetic ketoacidosis and diabetic coma, potentially life-threatening conditions which require emergent treatment. The risk factors for Type I diabetes are less well understood.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, stay aware of the early signs of diabetes as well as the risk factors which are associated with the disease. By being educated you can better judge your personal risk for the disease and better catch early signs of the disease. Again, if in doubt, ask your doctor. Making an early diagnosis of prediabetes or diabetes can help prevent the long-term damage that diabetes can do. It allows you to make changes in your life (improved diet, weight loss, exercise, etc.) which can help control diabetes and prevent the death and disability associated with poorly controlled diabetes.

Freemason Symbols – How to Succeed in Life

“In God have I put my trust: I will not be

afraid what man can do unto me.”

Ps. 56:11

The first word uttered by a candidate for Masonic degrees upon entering a Masonic Lodge declares his faith in God. Without that declaration the form and beauties of a lodge would be forever concealed from him. So, too, would be the hidden beauties of Freemasonry. That declaration also professes the candidate’s undying trust in God – a trust that is symbolically tested during the ritual used in each of the three degrees of Masonry.

In the First Degree, the candidate is released to the custody of a person whom he cannot see and in a sightless condition is caused to be led in paths he has never before traveled. His conductor is merely identified to him as a true and trusty friend upon whose fidelity he can, with the utmost confidence, rely. The candidate is taught a most important lesson about Freemasonry – it is safe to trust a brother Mason; as safe as trusting in God.

During the Second Degree, the candidate is taught the importance of the symbolic Middle Chamber of King Solomon’s Temple, which he may only enter by demonstrating his worthiness and knowledge. Here, Masons learn that knowledge is the gift of God and that the benefits we receive from knowledge are to be shared with every man, woman and child with whom they come into contact. That is so, because Divine Wisdom is at the root of all we can ever hope to learn and know, the comforts from which are not be denied any of God’s creatures.

Yet, it is during the Third Degree that the candidate learns how to rely upon God – how to fear not what man can do unto him. During the ritual, the candidate learns that he will no longer have someone to pray for him. He must do so by himself. The true and trusty brother who had previously served as his guide is replaced with the invisible presence of the Deity. Here, Masons are prepared for traveling abroad, or in the social and professional circles in his life outside of a Masonic Lodge.

When we reflect upon the progression of the Masonic lessons about trusting in God, we are reminded about the parallel lessons taught during the natural state of human existence. A child is born into the world unable to care for itself. Throughout its early years, it receives the loving care of its nurturing parents and thereby learns how to trust in someone to make it feel safe, secure and very much loved. There comes a time when the child must leave that safe environment and journey alone into the world. It is then that the child truly learns in whom to place its trust.

Throughout the history of mankind, nothing has rendered men more powerless than fear. Those who either assumed authority over others, or embarked on a path toward doing so quickly learned that the imposition of fear upon men made them easy to subjugate and manipulate. Monarchs, legislatures, churches and employers have at various times used fear to gain power, hold power and gain compliance with their different demands. In so doing, they acted as enemies of freedom, for men who act or fail to act out of fear are never truly free.

What is it that causes you to fear? Is it ill health or the steps you must take to keep good health? Could you withstand the humiliation and pressures of losing your job? Does your religion make unreasonable demands upon your behavior and emotions so that you fear falling from God’s grace? Or, do you fear that others do not like you? Such disordered thinking can also give way to anger and resentment – two products of fear – and result in the loss of friends and the loss of peace of mind.

Albert Pike wrote about how essential it is for man to embrace virtue and honor in their lives. He wrote that good men were made better by so doing and that others around them also greatly benefited from the resulting acts of kindness, charity and goodwill. He also wrote about how quickly virtue and honor vanish when fear is allowed to creep into man’s consciousness. A kind word is often quickly and irrationally replaced with an unwarranted harsh criticism. The helping hand is suddenly withdrawn replaced with a vacant uncaring air. Those who ordinarily rushed to instill harmony where bickering once reigned now look over their shoulders to see who is spying on them and who will report them to those who can harm them.

With such consequences clearly in focus, it becomes easier to fully comprehend the importance of fearing not what man can do unto you. As Masons, we learn to pray as though everything depends upon God and to act as though everything depends upon us. Thus, Freemasons have acknowledged from time immemorial that prayer and action are two very well known secrets to aid in achieving good mental and physical health. It is essential to know that both must act together. Prayer without action by he who prays is as useless as faith is without acts.

Fear is a natural reaction to that with which we are unfamiliar. When pain is potentially involved, it is most natural to, at least, feel a great deal of trepidation. Imagine for a moment the plight of the Grand Master Jacques De Molay as he awaited certain torture, most clearly already having been told precisely which instrument would hurtfully probe which delicate parts of his body. Without doubt, he felt fear. Yet, as we are informed by ancient history, he eventually overcame that fear, declared that he would not profess the misdeeds attributed to him and his Knights Templar and was subsequently burned alive at the stake.

What is it that enables men to overcome fear? The heroic efforts of the soldiers at Iwo Jima, or those who stormed the cliffs at the Normandy invasion stand out to generations as examples of unflinching bravery. To the military man the answer is clear – he fights because of his comrades in arms. But, why do we resist fear? Most of us are not in combat and thus not at war. The answer is that we have so conditioned our faith and our minds that we know that we, like all men, will die. Our passing from this material life was ordained before we were born. It matters not so much how we die, but how we live.

Freedom is a gift of God. We can accept it, or reject the entire premise. Fear forces us to make a choice. Many select slavery and yield. Others believe that freedom is a matter of choice and therefore choose to act free, even though they may be in a horrendous state of fear. Man is but of little time here on earth. Yet, his spirit lives forever. We ought not to care so much about our welfare here on earth as to sacrifice the great gift of freedom God has given us.

Men of courage are men of freedom. Men in fear are men in bondage. The Holy Writings is replete with allegories about deliverance from bondage – not submission to slavery. We have been created to become men of God, not men subjugated to the will of those who would use fear to strip us of our natural born spirit of freedom,

When ill health strikes, fear not. You will live. You may even live awhile longer here on this plane. If you do not, it matters not, for you have always been and always will be a life force.

When your fortune fails and you are worrying about how to live one month to the next, fear not. No one has guaranteed you a life without turmoil. However, you have been guaranteed that God will give you strength. Pray and act as though you will succeed. Should you feel threatened, whether by an employer, a priest or holy man, or a bully, fear not. No man has been empowered by God to impose his own selfish desires upon any other man. The only manner in which that succeeds is when the man allows it to succeed.

My brethren, Masonry offers us a plan for how best to succeed in life. That plan is centered upon the four cardinal virtues of temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice. None of those virtues may be successfully practiced by a fearful man. Thus, Masonry admonishes us to be steadfast – not fearful. Had Hiram Abif feared death, he would have quickly revealed the secrets of a Master Mason when first assailed by the ruffian at the south gate.

How quickly do you surrender?

Physical Stages Of Sexual Intercourse

Although each individual differs in how he or she enjoys and reacts to sexual stimuli, the American researchers W.H. Masters and V.E. Johnson have identified four distinct physical stages that everyone, male and female, passes through if they achieve orgasm. They called these stages excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution.

Excitement stage

The excitement stage can last from a few minutes to several hours and may begin through physical stimulation such as kissing or fondling. Equally, you can become excited by thinking about somebody you love or desire, or by being near that person. The most noticeable part of this phase is the effect it has on the erectile tissue, primarily the penis in the man and nipples in the woman. Within 10 to 30 seconds of becoming sexually excited, most men will have an erection as blood flows into the spongy tissue (the corpus cavernosa) of the shaft of the penis. At the same time, the scrotal sac tightens and pulls the testes up towards the body. Some men also experience nipple erection.

The female body exhibits a wider range of reactions during the excitement stage. Not only do the nipples themselves become engorged and erect but the areola, the dark area around the nipple, also enlarges. Veins on the breast fill and stand out. In most women, the clitoris swells and lengthens and the labia minora and majora (the inner and outer vulval lips) also react, with the outer lips increasing in size by two to three times and the inner lips flushing dark red. Changes also occur inside the vagina, which becomes purple in patches and secretes a clear liquid to make intercourse comfortable and to give the sperm easy passage on their way to the Fallopian tubes. The vagina itself changes shape and size: the innermost two-thirds expands and the uterus, or womb, is pulled up into the pelvic cavity, giving more room for the thrusting penis.

Signs of sexual excitement are also visible on the face of both the man and the woman. Lips and ear lobes mimic other erectile tissue by flushing and swelling, and the cheeks may flush as well. Eyes appear to sparkle and pupils dilate. There are also marked increases in pulse, blood pressure and rate of breathing. Pulse rates may climb from a normal 70 to 80 beats per minute to more than 100 as the sexual response becomes more intense.

Paradoxically, during sexual excitement, although it may seem that your senses are heightened, you can in fact become surprisingly insensitive to what is happening around you. You can be scratched or hit or even have people walk into the room and move near you, without noticing a thing.

Plateau phase

At some point during the excitement phase, the couple are likely to start intercourse, in which the penis enters the vagina. Excitement can continue for some time, however, before the second, or plateau, phase is reached. Reaching the plateau phase is a clear signal that orgasm is near and will probably occur within a few minutes. There are unmistakable signs that the plateau phase has begun, and if you want to prolong your love-making, you should learn to recognize these, and stop for a short time.

As the plateau phase starts, a mottled flush may spread over the stomach to the chest, neck, face and sometimes even the arms, thighs and buttocks of both partners. This rash is particularly noticeable on the woman’s breasts. These will swell, sometimes by as much as one-fourth their normal size, and the areolae may enlarge so much that the nipples seem to disappear. The man’s testes enlarge as well, his penis increases further in size and the glans deepens in colour to purple. In the woman, the clitoris actually retracts at this stage, withdrawing into the swollen wall of flesh (the prepuce) that surrounds it. If orgasm is delayed, the shaft of the clitoris may relax and retract several times. The outer lips of the vagina can become so enlarged and thick that they appear to hang like folds of cloth, and the inner lips flush a deep red. The vagina continues to flow with secretions and its walls now turn a deep purple. The innermost two-thirds expands still further, while the outer third contracts around the man’s penis. This allows the clitoris to get maximum stimulation from the thrusts of the penis stretching the labia and clitoral prepuce. As orgasm approaches, the womb starts to have contractions similar to those during labour.

Orgasm phase

As the third phase, orgasm, becomes imminent, pulse rates may leap to as much as 180 beats a minute – as high as that of a sprint athlete or someone doing heavy physical work. Blood pressure is dramatically increased, and, in very rare cases, men and women do actually ‘black out’, momentarily losing consciousness during orgasm.

In the man, orgasm is characterised by ejaculation. The vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and urethra all contract spasmodically to force seminal fluid up the penis and out into the woman’s vagina. In the woman, the womb contracts strongly, as does the outer third of the vagina and even the inner labia. Both the man and the woman momentarily lose control of muscles, both those normally under conscious control and those under reflex or involuntary control. In most men, and some women, the anal sphincter muscle contracts and hands may flex, toes curl, and stomach, buttock and thigh muscles ‘jump’. The face and neck muscles may also tense; during orgasm, some people look as if they are in intense pain and their eyes take on a fixed and glaring expression. Women can have multiple orgasms but men usually have only one Immediately after orgasm men go through a refractory phase during which they cannot achieve a further erection, no matter what the stimulation. Some young men at their most sexually potent, at about the age of 18 years, may find that they can indeed have another orgasm once the refractory phase is over, perhaps within 30 minutes. Older men, however, usually need a longer period, as much as 12 hours being quite normal.

Resolution phase

The final phase of coitus is resolution. This can last from 10 to 15 minutes. If orgasm has not been reached, the changes that occur during resolution can take up to 24 hours. Not surprisingly, if this is the case you can be left not only emotionally tense, but physically drained and sore. During resolution, the flush that covered both man and woman fades. The man’s penis shrinks to its normal, flaccid size, and his testes decrease and drop. The woman’s breasts also return to normal size and the nipples soften and flatten. Her clitoris and labia become less swollen and the vagina retracts to its original position.

How to Make Your Testicles Bigger!

Small testicles are more than just a cosmetic issue. In many cases, it also signals inadequate production of testosterone and other androgens. If production of these essential hormones are not restored, sexual difficulties can result. Low levels of testosterone and other male hormones has been linked to impotence, erectile dysfunction, low libido and reduced sexual endurance and stamina.

Hormone replacement therapy can help encourage testicles to reach their full growth. However, the therapy can come with a lot of side effects. A better option is to supplement with one or more of the herbs that men have been using for ages to improve the function and appearance of their sexual organs.

Tongkat Ali

Men in Malaysia are well aware of the many benefits of tongkat ali. In lab studies, the herb elevated luteinizing hormone, the hormone responsible for stimulating the Leydig cells found in the testicles. The stimulation kicked up production of testosterone. Researchers noted a significant increase in testicle size and sperm production as a result. Many users report fuller, larger testicles within a couple weeks of starting to supplement with tongkat ali.

Tribulus Terrestris

A recent scientific study on tribulus terrestris examined the effects of the herb on endocrine-sensitive organs of castrated and uncastrated rats. The Brazilian researchers found that the herb showed a positive effect on sperm production. The study was epublished ahead of print in September 2009 for the Journal of Ethnopharmacology. Tribulus terrestris is often used by steroid users to prevent or reverse testicle shrinkage that occurs with steroid usage.

There have been ten separate studies on the effects of maca on sperm production. It has been found that the herb increases sperm count. Some studies even found that it was capable of preventing testicular and spermatogenic disturbances that result from exposure to certain compounds or from high altitudes. One study indicated that the herb’s effects on improving sperm motility resulted in larger litter size in animal studies.

A 2001 study published in the Asian Journal of Andrology found that maca also increased testicle weight. It is important to keep in mind that there are several varieties of the herb-black, red and yellow. While all three varieties do have some effect on the reproductive organs, studies indicate that the black variety is the best option for increasing sperm production.

In a 2001 Journal of Ethnopharmacology article, researchers shared the results of their study on the effects of ashwagandha and another herb, cynomorium coccineum, on testicle development and sperm production. They found that when either of the herbs were given to rats, testicle size increased significantly. Extracts of the herbs were also found to directly influence sperm production in the body.

How to Make Your Testicles Bigger!

I’ve been giving these herbs to my clients who suffer from low testosterone levels for quite some time now.

Many of these men have come to me and reported that they’ve experienced dramatic increases in ejaculation volume and testicle size as a result of taking these herbs.

Now that I’ve looked at all the research, I completely understand why.

The product that I use and recommend to my clients includes all the herbs discussed above as well as several more.

This supplement not only increases testicle size, and ejaculation volume, but also testosterone levels, energy, motivation, and sex drive.

Exploring The Human Growth Hormone Supplements

Human growth hormone is a very intriguing hormone of the human body. It is the primary controller of the growth processes in the body and aids in different metabolic processes. It has also been studied since it was discovered. The discovery of HGH opened new possibilities and new horizons for the field of endocrinology.

Aside from exploring the methods on how HGH diseases can be treated, researchers also focused on the possibilities that human growth hormone can be a weapon against aging. Today, there are different HGH products and supplements that are available in the market and even the internet,

Initially, HGH products were used for treating HGH diseases and were available if one has a prescription on the product. Now, HGH products are widely distributed with or without prescription. One of the reasons of this proliferation is the idea that HGH products can help slow down the aging process. Some of the available products as anti-aging will be discussed in this article.

First product is the Somatrophinne. Somatrophinne is a mix of HGH, amino acids and growth factors. This product is designed to kindle greater production of HGH by the pituitary gland. It claims that is has no side effects and is approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration. Somatrophinne can be consumed through capsules and is cheaper than the injectables. It is frequently used for anti-aging, weight loss, body-building, better sleeps and increased metabolism.

Another product is the Renuva Generator which promises to stop or reduce certain aging factors. Renuva is made up of HGH releasers and a mix of nutritional ingredients that supports the production of growth hormone. The product claims that it has the finest active ingredients that include HGH precursors, HGH secretagogues and stress relievers.

Another product is the ProBlen human growth hormone products. These products claim that they have the highest quality products in terms of HGH supplements.  ProBlen presents their products in a combo of men and women anti aging products. These products, HGH Plus, contain growth factors like any other products.

There are still many products that are available in the internet and in the market. The mentioned products only served as examples on how these products are made and what are their claims. But, can aging be actually reversed? Are these products really effective?

Aging is an inevitable process and this process still goes on with or without these HGH supplements on anti-aging. While it is true that they provide youthful vigor to the users, these are only temporary.  Everybody goes through the aging process. There had been no reports of people defying age and reversing the aging process. Well, Benjamin Button reversed the aging process but he was born as an old man so it’s still practically the same. People can not escape the aging process. However, the bright side on these supplements is that they give temporary happiness to the users; it gives temporary strength to be able to enjoy life again.

Human growth hormone products sure do present possibilities in the human’s fantasy to reverse aging and to remain young. However, these dreams of anti aging cost a fortune with every pill and every injection that an individual goes. What ever happened to the cliché that dreaming is free? The Argan tree has very well modified itself to thrive and outlast in the hot and dry conditions of the South Western regions of Morocco. In order to search for water Argan plant’s roots penetrate quite deep within the ground to look for water which in a way in rather beneficial to keep the soil intact, check soil erosion and restrict the progress in the desert area. Argan tree not only maintains the proportion of the nature but also help the people financially. In 1999, UNESCO added the argan tree to the World Heritage List.

More than a third of the Argan trees have vanished in less than 100 years. The Argan tree have fruits that are green in semblance. They look like an olive but are bigger and rounder. There is a stiff shell nut between the fruit which is about one fourth of the flesh yield weight. The argan fruit nut may have a utmost of three kernels which is the source of Organic Argan Oil

The process involved in producing argan oil are very grueling and time consuming since they are done manually by man. The processes involved are to get the nut of the fruit and then break the hard shell to gather kernels. The kernels are roasted by heating them mildly and then grounded in a stone circular quern.

Subsequently the kernels were hand-mixed with mild water to form a dough. It was from the dough that had been extracted that the oil would be obtained by hand. Currently mechanical presses are being introduced to pull argan oil. The purpose of mechanized presses alternatively of manual job has saved a lot of time in producing 1 litre of oil. The mechanical presses are deployed to do abrasion and extraction once the kernels are roasted. The storage life of the obtained oil is much longer as water is not added to the dough and also extra oil is extracted. Cracking the nuts, the procedure which takes a elongated time is still performed manually. No heat or solvent is used during the extraction of the oil. The Moroccan Argan oil is slightly darker than olive oil and has a fruity flavor.

Moroccan Argan Oil

Moroccan oil is processed from the fruit of Argan tree which grows solely at very few places in the earth. This tree is native to Morocco. Argan Oil Info

It comes from the nuts of the Argan tree (Argania spinosa).

Since Argan tree is simply discovered in Morocco’s South Western part, very few persons are conscious about this tree. The nuts of the Argan tree are broken to get a oil with a lot of advantages. The remaining is used to feed the oxen and nuts shells for warming.

For centuries, Berber women of this area have produced argan oil which was used for their ingestion and traditional Moroccan medication.

People abroad are more and more concerned in this oil either for its decorative and nutritional properties. The argan tree is very resistant in nature and hence can inhabit for roughly 200 years. It is absolutely adapted to the fruitlessness of the South Western regions of Morocco. Argan tree has roots that can go deep-seated inside the soil for search of water which stops soil erosion and stops the progression of the desert. Argan tree plays a key function in keeping the bionomical balance and the economic state of the people. The World Heritage List also has the Argan tree, added to its records in 1999 by UNESCO.

A large number of the Argan tree population has already vanished in less than a 100 years. The fruits of the Argan tree are green. The Argan tree has large and circular fruits. Inside, there is a stiff shell nut which represents nearly one quarter of the flesh yield weight. The Organic Argan Oil is obtained from the kernels which are formed within the nut. The process involved in the argan oil making is a very tough and a toilsome process realised by hand. The steps involved are to get the nut of the fruit and then separate the hard shell to collect kernels. The kernels are roasted by warming them in a meek flame, cooled and crushed in a stone rotary quern.

A dough is then formed by mixing the roasted kernels with water. Man can then extract argan oil from this mixture manually. Recently preset presses have been introduced to derive argan oil. This has substantially reduced the amount of time required to derive 1 litre of oil. Once the kernels are roasted, the mechanical press takes care of the abrasion and extraction. The quantity of the obtained oil has increased somewhat considerably by adding no water to the dough and the oil can be stocked for an lengthy time period. The most overwhelming time of the process, cracking the nuts, is still accomplished by hand. Neither solvent nor heat is used for this oil extraction. The obtained Moroccan Argan oil tastes like nuts and has a darker color than olives.

History of the argan tree

« Argania Spinosa », better known as the Argan tree, is a wild, rustic and resistant species of tree with small thorny branches, which grows exclusively in South West Morocco, in the Berber region encompassing the cities of Essaouira, Agadir, Taroudant and Tafraout.

Its origins can be traced back to approximately 80 millions years ago when the dinosaurs still roamed the earth. The argan tree covers an area of about 3,000 square miles (approximately 20 million trees).

Because it faces extinction, the argan tree has been classified as part of the world’s universal heritage by UNESCO and is being actively protected to preserve the unique and extraordinary virtues of this national emblem.

Indeed, the argan tree can be used in various ways. Each piece or by-product of the tree can be utilized as a source of revenue or food. The tree has incredible ecological and physiological properties which make it practically the only species adapted to survive in these arid and semiarid regions.

When it comes to soil and grazing-land conservation, and the fight against erosion and desertification, it is nigh irrepleacable.

Thanks to its roots, which can grow several meters long, this priceless tree has a key role in preserving the soil, which it enriches with organic matter from its falling leaves. Researchers have catalogued up to 100 different varieties of plants under a single argan tree, and their survival can be solely explained by its protective shelter.

The argan tree isn’t sensitive to heat and requires very little water. Its roots can grow up to 30 metres long in order to reach deep underground water. In case of a drought, the argan tree will shed its leaves to resist the evaporation process and will enter « sleep mode ». When the humidity level rises, it suddenly comes back to life.

However, it is important to note that an argan tree can only produce between 10 and 30 kilos of fruits per year, and to produce one liter of argan oil, 38 kilos of fruits are required, or 2,6 kilos of the kernels.

The argan tree has survived for thousands of years and its history is deeply enmeshed with that of Morocco’s. Thus, It has become the treasure of the Berber regions of Southern Morocco.

Argan oil and its virtues

100% natural argan oil is extracted from the oleaginous kernel of the argan tree.

The biological and nutritional qualities of this oil are excellent, and it posesses multiple cosmetological, dietary and pharmacological virtues.

For centuries, Berber women have been producing it to provide for the dietary needs of the local population. Traditionally, they’ve also used it for their everyday beauty needs.

The natural virtues of Argan oil have been proven through several scientific studies performed in Morocco, Europe and other continents.

Its major biochemical components are recognized for their health benefits.

Argan oil is one of the rarest and costliest oil on the planet. It has been proven as being the most effective beauty oil on the market, for all facial, hair, nail and body care.

Argan oil is a rare and unique natural treasure. Rich in vitamin E, it is especially recommended for dry or aging skins.

It is without a doubt the best solution for revitalizing your skin. The efficacy of its beauty secrets have been proven time and again throughout the centuries.

An oriental elixir with priceless virtues, argan oil offers relaxation, beauty and well being.

It is a rare and precious treasure that has become much sought after. Rich in vitamin E, it nourishes the skin and preserves its elasticity.

It works wonders on wrinkles and dry skins, and diminishes considerably visible acne scars.

It is rich in natural ingredients that play an important role in cellular renewal.

In the traditional Moroccan materia medica, argan oil is used to counter the negative effects of age and the climate on the body.

It promotes the eradication of acne, chicken pox, pimples and other various skin irritations such as stretch marks, chaps and burns.

It is also used for hair care, by promoting shine and lustre. It nourishes brittle and dull hair in depth, and strengthens their growth, giving them added resistance.

Argan oil has no equal when it comes to treating brittle and fragile nails.

And finally, it relieves joint pains and is valued for body massages

We offer two brands of Argan oil: Dietary argan oil and cosmetic argan oil.

Dietary argan oil undergoes a roasting process which differentiates it from cosmetic argan oil. Its delicious hazelnut and grilled almond taste, which gives it its deeper tint and tempting odour, is very distinctive. It possesses outstanding physiological qualities.

Cosmetic argan oil, on the other hand, doesn’t have a strong odour. It is almost odourless and its colour is lighter than dietary argan oil.

The virtues of argan oil:

♦ Argan oil stabilizes hypercholesterolemia by reducing the levels of bad cholesterol and increasing the levels of good cholesterol.

♦ It reduces hypertension.

♦ It possesses appetite-suppressant properties that combat obesity (when consumed during the morning meal).

♦ It acts positively on liver function.

♦ It neutralizes free radicals and protects connective tissues.

♦ It revives and stimulates cellular transfers and oxygenation by improving the quality of intercellular cement.

• It works to mitigate the drying and physiological aging of the skin (anti-wrinkle properties) by restoring the hydrolipidic film and by increasing nutritive contributions at the cellular level. It also contains Schottenol, which has been found to have anti-cancerous properties.

• it is used to treat chronic deafness and ear aches.

• It is used to reduce risks of myocardial infarction and cardio-vascular problems.

♦ It is recommended when risks of atherosclerosis are present.

♦ It is used for rhumatisms and joint pains (osteoarthritis).

♦ It is recommended in cases of sterility (azoospermia) and when there are risks of miscarriages (general medecine uses).

♦ It stimulates and develops cerebral functions.

♦ It is also used to massage newborns and infants.

2.4 Biochemical composition of argan oil

Research studies conducted on the argan tree have been widely reported on these past few years. In this chapter we aim to show you the interesting nutritional, cosmetic and therapeutic properties of argan oil.

Its chemical composition is interesting: it’s (99%) glyceric acid and (1%) non-saponifiable.

80% of the fatty acids in argan oil are unsaturated acids. Respectively, the oleic and linoleic acids make up 45% and 35% of the total, which gives the oil excellent dietary qualities. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid, because it cannot be synthesized by the body. Food intake is the only source. Recent studies performed by nutritionists have shown that essential fatty acids (linoleic, linolenic, etc…) are biological precursors of prostaglandins, intracellular hormones. These play a fundamental role regulating different cellular systems, especially cellular membrane exchanges.

Essential fatty acids play a role in the permeability and in the barrier function of the skin. A deficiency in fatty acids, which becomes inevitable with age, causes skin aging, which translates into dryness and the loss of cutaneous elasticity and enables the appearance of wrinkles. Reversing the deficiency in essential fatty acids slows down the cutaneous aging process.

The non-saponifiable substances contain hydrocarbons, 37.5% of carotenes, 7.5% of tocopherols, 20% of triterpene, 20% of methyl sterols and sterols, and 6.5% of xantophyll.

The search for provitamin A, in the form of trans-carotene, in argan oil was negative.

It is rich in tocopherols: 620 mg/kg (olive oil: 320mg/kg). Vitamin E is known for its eutrophic properties. It contributes to a normal nutritional balance and the steady development of the entire organism.

The triterpenic fraction is made up of Tirucallol, of Amyrine and Butyrospermol. The sterolic fraction is primarily made up of Spinasterol and Schottenol. These sterols can rarely be found in vegetable oils. According to certain authors, Schottenol is active in a particular plant (Agyratum conyzoides) whose sap is used in India to treat various skin ailments. In the case of the Ipomopsis aggregata species, the Schottenol glucoside has been found to have anti-cancerous properties.

The chemical composition of argan oil that we have just described has fueled well targeted research on its intrinsic qualities. In terms of preservation, the works of Chimi et al. (1994) have shown that it resists the autooxydation process much better than olive oil, thanks to its polyphenol (56mg/kg) and tocopherol (620mg/kg) contents.

The nutritional study was performed in vivo by Belcadi (1994).This study has shown that:

– The intake of argan oil leads to a modifiaction of the membranous PUFAs comparable to that caused by peanut oil.

– This oil, which is relatively rich in Vitamin E, elicits the stimulation of enzymatic activity linked to the detoxification and antioxidant defense of cells. This results in a reduction of the membranous susceptibility to peroxydation which is, according to some authors, the cause of aging. [Sohal and Allen,1990; Ames and Shigenega 1992; Harman 1992].

The traditional use of argan oil to treat cutaneous dryness and the physiological aging of the skin has motivated some French laboratories to incorporate it in cosmetic products. It is currently being used by Galenique (Argan line), Yves Rocher (Acaciane line) and by Colgate Palmolive (dermatological soap ‘Antinea’).

Virgin argan oil stands out thanks to its specific chemical composition characterized by:

♦ A significant unsaturation due to high levels of oleic and linoleic acids. This essential fatty acid (from the omega 6 series) must be complemented by omega 3 fatty acids to improve the nutritional value of argan oil.

♦ A wealth of tocopherols which helps with the preservation of the oil during storage and throughout the culinary processes, and insures a good dietary contribution of antioxidants.

♦ A sterolic fraction giving the oil potentially sizable therapeutic and anti-cancerous virtues.

♦ A fraction of Triterpen alcohols containing lupeol, endowed with well-established anti-inflammatory properties.

Pulsing Tinnitus – What Causes This Tinnitus Type?

What happens with throbbing tinnitus?

Pulsatile tinnitus is a harmonious sound that beats in time with your hearbeat. Not everybody will hear the same pulsating sounds. People most certainly will hear the pulastile tinnitus sounds differently!

While Pulsatile tinnitus is not a common type of tinnitus, it has some well-known causes including hypertension, heart murmur, glomus (globe-shaped) tumor, blocked Eustachian tubes, or an abnormality of a vein or artery. It is always possible to treat pulsatile tinntus because one treats the problem causing the pulsatile tinnitus.

Pulsating tinnitus is normally caused by a blockage of some sort in the arteries in the inner ear.

There are many circumstances, that can be responsible for increased blood flow.

Generalized faster blood flow in the body which occurs during strenuous activity and can be caused by severe anemia.

Generalized increased flow of blood occurs when an artery is narrower than it should be. Obviously other veins in the area will now need to move more blood as a result. The extra flow generates noise and can result in Pulsatile tinnitus.

Potential Causes of Pulsatile Tinnitus Include:

Abnormal groups of arteries and veins that occur within the cranial cavity close to the auditory nerve.

An abnormal connection between a large artery and venous pool within the cranial cavity; usually the result of a severe head trauma.

Chronic Inflammation and infection of the middle ear. Chronic inflammation is accompanied by a forced increase in the flow of blood to the affected tissue. Because this tissue is in the ear, some people are able to hear the increased blood flow.

Middle ear fluid. The middle ear is generally an air-filled space. If infection or inflammation occurs, or there are blocked Eustachian tubes, fluid will gather behind the middle ear, resulting in Pulsatile tinnitus.

Vascular tumors in the middle ear – commonly referred to as glomus (globe-shaped) tumors or paragangliomas. Surgery is required for correction of this problem.

Pulsatile tinnitus will also occur when the is a constriction or a partial blockage of these blood vessels from an atheroma which is a fatty deposit in inner lining of a blood vessel, which can obstruct blood flow and is caused by high levels of cholesterol .

Treatment for Pulsatile tinnitus is related to it’s peculiar cause. As an example, hypertension can be treated with prescription medicines and obstructed or narrowed arteries can be surgically repaired.

Treatment of pulsatile tinnitus normally involves a multi-disciplinary approach which can encompass a variety of symptom controlling approaches. The majority of patients experiencing Pulsatile tinnitus are treated with conventional allopathic methods of tinnitus treatments including drug therapy, and sound and/or relaxation therapy.

Is There a Natural Cure For Eczema

In our quest for a natural cure for eczema – I’m going to start with “the moral of the story”. I’m about 40 years old, and people of my generation can remember a time when swimming in Lake Eire was a past time, not a death wish. I mean, when did every one all of a sudden start getting sick? As kids, we would play in the barn with the animals around all the manure and never get sick. Just hose us down and we were off to the city dump to play king of the hill. Point being, our bodies aren’t as strong as they were just a few decades ago.

All right, back to eczema. Fact is that science has not found a cause or cure for it. They do agree that it is hereditary though, in that if the parents suffered from allergies, the child will be very prone to all sorts of allergies – including eczema. It all boils down to the immune system breaking down. Not to turn this into a drug company conspiracy, but Americas have a fascination with a quick fix for whatever is ailing us and have created a downward spiral of deteriorating health, taking a pill to treat the symptoms while skipping over the root problems.

In order to find a natural cure for eczema we must look at healing our very cell structure, beginning with the immune system. When the immune system is not working proper, any allergen like pollen or ragweed can bring on a full blown outbreak. First and foremost we need to get an abundance of Omega 3 oils (like flaxoil and fish oil) back into out diet. Also knows as fatty acids, these have been know to lower cholesterol, regulate heartbeat, thin the blood, and thereby lessening the risk of heart disease. Green juice / wheatgrass juice has been credited with cleansing the lymph system, strengthening the blood, restoring balance in the body, removing toxics from the cells, and nourishing the liver and kidneys. Hydro- and hydrothermal therapy (ionized water instead of tap), various herbal tonics, and vital nutrients.

Years and years of pollutants are going to need to be removed. This is a major task and could take years as well. The body as a whole is a self mending machine. It wants to repair itself. But after being subjected to countless poisons over the years it WILL revolt. This is known as the ‘healing crisis’. While the body is detoxifying, the weaknesses that the body has developed will re-manifest while it is adjusting. Some times even worse then ever before. While you may feel worse before you feel better, it is critical that you don’t give into the same ‘relief medications’ that contributed to your weakened immune system in the first place.

Notice how we are not fighting the eczema directly? We are mending the body to so that it can take care of it’s self again. Maybe I shouldn’t even have titled this article “Natural Cure for Eczema” – because it goes so much deeper then that. Then again, the very steps that need to be taken to rid your self of eczema will end up reversing health problems you didn’t even know you had. We need to look at the big picture.

Side note: A term you should look into is ‘urotherapy‘. And it’s exactly what it sounds like, the science of using urine for healing. When you realize that urine is the result of blood filtration, not waist filtration, we start finding products being discarded that the body really needs like vital nutrients, hormones, critical antibodies and enzymes that cannot be duplicated in any lab. A urine sample is as original as a finger print. It is relatively a new science, but has been used to cure curtain cancers, heart disease, auto-immune diseases, diabetes, asthma, allergies, infertility, infections, so on and do forth. I.E. a natural cure for eczema and many other skin ailments (which all begin from the inside anyway).

A very interesting study.

The whole concept of a natural cure for eczema is far too large to cover in this amount of space, but I hope I have given you some food for thought. The point that I want to make is this… You can’t cure eczema, you can repair the immune system, and that in turn will eliminate it. Fix the foundation, and the house will stand strong.

The Short Term Effects of Cyber Bullying

Cyber bullying does have negative consequences. The effects of cyber bullying can be short-term or if not dealt with can create long-lasting problems that can significantly impact the life of the target as well as the bully themselves.

Effects of Online Bullying

As a parent, it is your responsibility to check how much time your child spends in front of the computer. More importantly, you need to keep an eye on what each of them is doing. If you observe something strange, do not ignore these signs, even if it seems something small – step out and investigate.

You need to do this as the short-term consequences of online bullying may start out small but they can significantly develop and impact your child’s future.

Lets take a look at some of the effects of cyber bullying for the target

Severe Depression – A child being bullied online can experience depression that can cause them to avoid people, even parents.

Loss of Self-Worth – A target of bullying may lose confidence in themselves. The actions, words or any other methods of bullying can push a child to doubt themselves, to not to believe in their strengths and abilities, and cause them to think that they are worthless.

Difficulty in Sleeping – The effects of cyber bullying are not limited to the times when your child is online. It extends to different aspects in their life, even sleep. The combination of fear, depression, anxiety and all other negative effects, may prevent them from having a regular, complete and restful sleep.

Physical Indications – There could also be physical symptoms which may include things like constant stomach pains, headaches and the like.

Anxiety – A child who is bullied online may be worried about almost everything for no reason.

Lack of Interest in School – Your child’s lack of interest in going to school can mean not finishing their studies or doing poorly.

If you see any of these signs; if your child just doesn’t appear to be their normal selves; if you notice a difference in their behavior – make sure you take the time to find out what is going on.

Effects of Cyber Bullying on Bullies

Online bullying does not only affect the target of the bullying, but it can also have an impact on the bully. As stated earlier, parents should keep watch of their children. Whether they are bullied or they bully others, there will always be negative effects – these may include:

Trouble in Making Friends and Maintaining Relationships – A bully, due to their intimidating attitude and personality, may find it hard to make friends. The few friendships that they do have may be built on fear, thus they are more difficult to maintain.

Struggles in School – Being an online bully may impact your child’s interest in studying. What they are doing online may consume them and with all this going on, there may be a lot less room for other important things like study.

Problems with the law – In many countries and states, there is an increase in laws against cyber bullying. A child who is bullying others online may at some stage be charged, this means they could end up with a criminal conviction against them and the repercussions of this are huge.

Short-term or long-term, the effects of cyber bullying can be devastating. Your child does not deserve a ruined life due to being bullied or bullying others. These possible consequences of online bullying are a sobering reminder as to how important it is to keep an eye on what your children are doing online.

Toenail Fungus–Cure It Or Live With It?

Nail fungus is most often  found in the toenails and is a nuisance infection which you can choose to ignore or to cure as you see fit. The fungus has no very serious health effects and as a consequence it is quite safe to simply ignore it if you can stand  having thick ugly and yellow looking toenails. The affected nails will be very thick and tough and can sometimes come completely off, after a time, to bare a new toenail which has grown below. This is the result of a fungus infection which is in place right under the nails and as a result is difficult to reach in order to treat it. Some prescription drugs are available through your doctor and these will cure it if you want to  try this. The manufacturers of these drugs do list certain side effects, which can occur in some users, so you should ask your doctor about this before being prescribed the drugs. If you would rather opt for something else there are a few alternative home treatments, which have been found to work fairly effectively.

Vicks Vaporub chest rub, the old standby cold medication can kill the toenail fungus. The only disadvantage is that  this treatment can take a long time. You will probably need to apply the Vicks Vaporub to your toenails once or twice per day for a number of months to get good results. The Vicks preparation smells of eucalyptus oil but you will not notice it since it is under your socks and shoes. This  treatment works  because the medication has some ingredients which are known  to be fungus fighters, although it is made for use  as a cold treatment.

One more remedy, which seems to work, is tea tree oil, which can be purchased at health food stores. It is necessary to dilute the tea tree oil before using it on  the nails, as it has been found in some cases, to cause  some skin irritation if used without dilution. A good recipe to use is to mix about 1/4 cup of cider vinegar in half a cup of boiled water and add roughly 20 drops of tea tree oil. If you want this to smell good you can just add some nicely scented essential oil such as clove oil or lavender oil. You should keep the mixture in a dark glass bottle, as strong light can cause decomposition. Shake  the mixture thoroughly before applying it to the nails and swab the  fungus infected toenails twice or thrice every day. This procedure also may take quite some time to do get the desired results, so you should  be ready to do this for a some months if needed.

Toe nail fungus also responds to application of zinc compounds. The old well known zinc ointment, which is still to be found in many drug stores, should be used on the  fungus infected toenails twice or thrice daily and should aid in curing the fungus infection. This treatment also necessitates application for a number of months to get results and seems not to work as well as tea tree oil treatment, for some cases. Consequently we would use the tea tree oil or Vicks Vaporub as our preferred treatment. What it boils down to is that you can suffer a little in silence with your rather ugly fungal  toenails or you may do something to get rid of the problem if you desire to.

Hyper Attachment – A Symptom of Separation Anxiety in Dogs

Hyper attachment in dogs is the most common problem amongst puppies and older dogs. This article describes the causes, symptoms, and solutions for hyper attached dogs.

What Causes Hyper Attachment in Dogs?

Dogs can develop hyper attachment issues for a number of reasons. Dogs that have deficiencies in their sensory perception such as sight and hearing are likely to develop hyper attachment. Attachment problems are also common in pups that have been adopted from a shelter. Such dogs become overly attached to their owner if the have been abandoned or traumatized prior to adoption. Thus, they often require greater care and sensitivity.

What are the Symptoms of Hyper Attachment?

Dogs that suffer from attachment issues are often called Velcro dogs, because they are always stuck to their owners sides. Hyper attached dogs show signs of nervousness and anxiousness when they are unable to be close to their owners. Dogs often become overly attached to one member of the household. You can test this by having all of the family members in a room, then observe the dogs behavior as each person leaves. If the dog gets up to follow, or is unsettled while a person is away, they are probably overly attached to that person. Hyper attached dogs often also suffer from dog separation anxiety. This behavior is a reliable indicator of separation anxiety because it can be seen while you are home, whereas something like barking while you are away, is more difficult to catch.

What can I do about Hyper Attachment?

Hyper Attachment in dogs can be treated with some specific training drills. These drills may include desensitization and counter-conditioning. One drill is the “Steps” drill. It is useful for puppies and older dogs. Start by getting your dog to sit. Then take a step away. Reward the dog for staying and for being calm. As your repeat the drill, keep taking steps away until you are out of sight. Stay out of sight for a few seconds, then come back and treat your dog. If your dog is nervous, wait for them to be calm before you give them a treat. Never reward anxious behavior. Gradually build up the time and distance so that you can put your dog in another room away from you without any change in its behavior.

Can not Sleep? Red Balloons Can Help

I do not know about you, but there are times in my life when I have so much going on that's it's nearly impossible to shut my brain off long enough to get to sleep. Even worse, I may be able to get sleep, but something wakes me up in the middle of the night and before I know it, my brain is running through my to-do list. I find myself wondering about the next day, worrying about my family, thinking about all of the things that have to be done, but I do not have time for. Then I start to panic because I have no idea how I'm going to get all of those things done if I have not gotten enough sleep. Here's a very simple meditation technique that can quiet your brain and get your body some much needed rest.

When you're in bed and your mind is racing, take five deep, slow breaths. While you're breathing, take note of any muscles in your body that are tensed and relax them. Now, pay attention to your thoughts. Every time a thought enters your brain, picture a red, helium balloon getting tied to the thought. The thought then drifts away out of the top of your head. Keep visualizing the red balloon taking your thoughts away until you drift away to sleep.

This technique takes some practice but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Best of all, your brain and your body will get the rest it needs to actually tackle that to-do list when you're awake.
