As parents of teenagers, we sometimes neglect to see the warning signs of a troubled teen. This means that your teen is displaying certain negative characteristics that are really trying to grab your attention. However, due to your own problems you may fail to see your child's troubles. We are all busy in our own lives but as parents we have a responsibility to know what's going on in our kids' lives and keep them on the right track to productive adulthood.

Even though your teen may be seventeen and almost emancipated, he or she still thinks like a child and not an adult. Warning signs that may indicate a troubled teen include isolation, a whole new set of friends, problems at school, drug and alcohol use, and depression or anxiety.

Isolation of Your Teenager

For your teenager, it means the world to have friends. If you begin noticing that your teen begins to like being alone a lot, it's time to find out why. Some teens are very shy, but even they have at least one best friend.

Peer Groups

New friends you were never introduced to – this spells TROUBLE. If your teenager begins to hang out with a whole new group of friends and does not ever mention who they are or where they live, it's time that you drag the information out of her. You know the saying, "One bad apple spoils the whole bunch." You certainly do not want your child to be spoiled by one bad teenager. Your teen may begin to dress differently too; To match her new friends. This is just one more clue for you to step in.

Problems at School

Falling grades or lying about completing assignment are a sign there has been a change in your teen. If she fails to do assignments even though you ask if she completed her work and she always said "yes", then something it's time to find out what is wrong. Sometimes a teenager just will not want to go to school and her absenteeism goes through the roof. Your teenager may begin to have disputes with some of their teachers. These are all warning signs that you must step in and help your teen the best you can or else seek professional help for her.

Drugs and Alcohol

Trying a little alcohol a taste or experimenting with weed may be part of the experience all teenagers have to go through this day and age. However, when a parent's pills are missing or your child is showing erratic and strange behavior something has changed. When in doubt, check it out.

Some people may totally disagree with the following advice but it could save your child's life. When your teenager goes to school, look though her room and especially her dresser drawers' way in the back. My girls went on vacation and my husband went into my daughter's room and found my bottle of ninety tablets of Ativan. The bottle was empty. She had taken those pills in about the space of only a few weeks. She had stolen them. Yes, she was hooked on drugs. We did and are getting her help but we missed the early signs.

Depression and Anxiety

You may find that your child may really have some deep-seated emotional issues particularly if you notice the word "suicide" in your computer's search engine. Your teen may also start wearing long-sleeved shirts because she may be cutting herself with razor blades. These all signs that you as a parent must step in and lend a helping hand. You do not want your teenager to commit the ultimate act.

Here's one more danger sign; If your child disappoints right after eating or she eats hard anything, do not let this go on. Our daughter was treated for anorexia and bulimia. We could have done it soon but it was not until she was passing out that our eyes were opened. This can happen to boys as well as girls.

Parents, watch over the children that God gave you. I think the most important advice I can give it that you pay attention to your kids. Know them, their likes dislikes, habits, wardrobe, friends. If you are involved, you will be able to see the early signs of trouble and step in to help.

If you have an overwhelming feeling or self-consciousness and anxiety in social settings that most people are fine in then you might have social phobia, otherwise known as social anxiety disorder. People suffering from this disorder feel like they are being judged and watched intensely by others and think that they think horrible thoughts about them.

They are afraid that they will embarrass or humiliate themselves in front of people when they meet them. This can seriously interfere with daily life such as school, work, relationships, and activities of daily living. Even though most people with social anxiety disorder know they’re feeling are not valid and excessive they cannot seem to manage or control them. When they a function they have to attend they can worry for months or weeks waiting for the dreadful day.

Social anxiety disorder can range in its behavior. Some individuals may only suffer from a specific fear such as eating or drinking, speaking, or writing if others are around or watching. The user needs to always follow the instructions on the prescription and take the medication every day. If the side effects are too bad or there is no improvement in four weeks call your doctor. Many patients will have to continue medications for months, years, or even a lifetime. Another important aspect is therapy. Most doctors use cognitive-behavioral therapy that changes the individual’s cognitive thinking patterns to help them eventually face fear in all social situations without debilitating anxiety.

Insomnia, in general, is the inability to sleep or to stay asleep for a long time. This sleep disorder is caused by a variety of factors, and each of these causes requires its own methods to finally counter and cure insomnia. Insomnia can be brought on by altered work hours or jet lag. It may be induced because of bodily pain, or disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, which can cause spontaneous vomiting even while the person is asleep. Nightmares and sleepwalking can also bring about insomnia, as can mental disorders such as mania or phobias. How can you, as a pregnant mother, cope with insomnia during pregnancy? Because of the uncomfortable size, shape, and weight of your belly, you may want to try new sleeping positions that will not strain your back or cause you pain or discomfort. You can try sleeping on your side, with a pillow or something soft under your belly. You can also take a warm, soothing bath before you sleep, in order to relax your body completely. This can make you fall asleep easily, and, along with a glass of warm milk, can keep you asleep for a longer time.

If the warm bath and glass of milk still do not work, then set the thermostat in your room to a comfortable temperature. You can also play relaxing instrumental music, preferably with soothing strains such as those made by a flute or violin. Such music may include nature sound accompaniments, such as twittering birds or the sound of the ocean crashing against the shore.

If music keeps you awake, you may want to read a book or watch television, or eat a light snack with some carbohydrates. A low dose of carbohydrates in the night time can allow your brain to produce serotonin, which can ease you closer to sleep. Do not overindulge on carbohydrates by taking chocolates and sweets, however, as this will keep you up and alert for much longer. The key to combating insomnia during pregnancy is to relax: you will learn such techniques in child birth class, so put them into practice at night as you get into bed.

If you have a chance to sleep during the day, then take it. You can also help yourself sleep better at night by exercising for about half an hour late in the afternoon. Take up yoga or meditation exercises, and do not engage in strenuous exercises, as these will actually wake you up. There are special yoga routines for pregnant mothers, so you may want to do research on them.

Network Marketing Success – Handling the Big "R" Rejection

Whenever network marketers and network marketing coaches wish upon a star, even the most pragmatic of us holds out hope for finding that magic bullet which will empower our people and ourselves to create a breakthrough in our business-building success.

I’m not entirely sure (but after a dozen years of coaching network marketers, I’m “pretty” certain) that I’ve found such a formidable round of ammunition–but I am certain I’ve discovered the right target: Network Marketing Success is all about Handling the big “R”, which stands for public (and professional) enemy number one of all network marketing direct sales people: REJECTION. There! I said it (again).

The Big “R”. Conquer it, and even the loftiest heights of success become inevitable achievements.

Let’s take a closer look…

re-ject. According to The American Heritage Dictionary, reject (along with its close relative, re-jection) means: 1. To refuse to accept, submit to, believe, or make use of. 2. To refuse to consider or grant. 3. To refuse to recognize or give affection to (a person). See Synonyms at “refusal” (Which I did, and here they are: “decline, reject, spurn, rebuff, withdraw, repudiate, and turn down.”) 4. To discard as defective or useless; throw away. 5. To spit out or vomit…

…Enough! It’s no wonder the Big R is as Repulsive, Repugnant and Revolting as it is–and that it is as BIG a problem as it is for Network Marketing Sales persons the world over.

“So, Throckmorton, what do you say about my product and business opportunity?”

“Well, Muffy, I say ‘No.'”

Translation? According to American Heritage:

“Muffy, I refuse to accept it. I don’t believe it and can’t make use of it. I refuse to even consider your offer. In addition, I refuse to recognize you, much less give you any affection. Your product and opportunity are obviously defective and useless. I’m going to throw them (and you) away. Spit them out. Indeed, your product and business opportunity make me vomit.”

Rejection, the Big R… nice, isn’t it?

No, it’s not nice, not at all, not the slightest bit–and everyone knows it. And, therein lies the transformational success secret of Handling the Big R.

Rejection is the single most important factor in your success in this business. Every leader, heavy hitter, Upline success story I’ve ever come across in this business was a man or woman who could handle rejection. And I suspect that every drop-out, opportunity-hopper, once-upon-a-time network marketer who isn’t one anymore… came smack up against the brick wall of the Big R and was stopped cold.

“Beware of allowing a tactless word, a rebuttal, a rejection to obliterate the whole sky.”

… said the poet Anais Nin.

Beware indeed. That’s why rejection is so important for us to explore. And, according to whatever personal style you favor–to master, conquer, make friends with, love, or none of the above, but something else instead–whatever style you choose, you must deal with the Big R in some way which empowers you.

If you don’t, defeat will surely be snatched from the victorious jaws of even the most perfect network marketing direct sales possibility.

So, how to train ourselves and others to build a ladder over the wall of rejection?

Step One: Get out of denial about the business we’re in!

What “denial,” you ask (in denial)? Well:

What’s the biggest reason for failure in our business? No sales. (And please…is there any legitimate compensation pay plan that pays on anything other than sales volume? No, there is not.) If a distributor doesn’t sell enough products or sell enough people on building businesses who in turn sell enough products through their own and their organization’s efforts, nobody makes money–and when nobody makes money, nobody sticks with the business.

Truth is, we are the network marketing direct SALES business–and truth is, a great proportion of companies and their distributors are in denial about that.

One reason we have chosen to deny (or reject) that this business of ours is sales is because of all the historical negatives attached to sales and selling. And those of us who do so deny, do so deny, because we would rather avoid the subject than deal with our fear of the possibility of failure and rejection it represents.

Not only is fear at the heart of the matter of people’s avoidance of sales and selling, it is THE source of the Big R as well.

Salespeople make so much money because it’s a job nobody else wants. Sales income is such high “hazard pay,” because sales is such a “dangerous and risky job.”

You see, a sales person gets rejected for a living.

I think that’s one of the reasons we look down on sales people. Who but an arrogant, egocentric and puffed-up person would be so thick-skinned insensitive as to not be affected by the constant rejection? We’ve met those insufferable sales people who don’t/won’t take our well-considered (or just plain defensive) “No” for an answer. We reject them–and they just keep coming! Sheeze.

Don’t you just hate that? Don’t you just wish you could do that? (Of course, without being an over-bearing, boorish, obnoxious, self-centered, egomaniac.)

Sure you do. So what does it take?

Just one thing:

When your belief is larger than your fear, rejection is not an issue.

“Don’t take it personally…” Are you kidding? Now there’s something I reject. Tragically flawed though I may be, I have to admit that I almost always “take it personally.” When I don’t, I’m suspicious that I don’t really care.

Here’s how I’ve got it wired up (you?): Reject my offer, recommendation, whatever–and you’re rejecting ME.

Believe me, I know well the rationales. I’ve written them often enough: What’s being rejected is the message, not the messenger. Great. Thanks for reminding me; but it still hurts.

Appreciation and recognition are a pair of fundamental life values of mine, as I know they are also for many people in our people-people business. Saying “No” to something I believe in strongly and have passion for, stomps (even if gently or accidentally) on my values, and I don’t like that or feel good about that.

So, given the above equation, it must be that I’m more afraid of not being appreciated and recognized for something else that’s very important to me–my contribution. The fear of rejection is larger than my belief that I am contributing. After all, if I told you Dances with Wolves was a moving must-see movie and you said “Stick it, John–the only good Indian is a dead Indian,” that’s a contribution I don’t get to make ’cause you rejected me.

Bottom line: That’s a choice I just made–and I get to live and work with it. And since it–i.e., to be or not to be–is always a choice, always for each of us, it really behooves us to choose in favor of what will empower ourselves and others.

As Eleanor Roosevelt so perfectly put it:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

And why bother to consent to fear in any guise?

The Greek philosopher Diogenes was once seen begging at the foot of a statue. Asked the reason for his “pointless” behavior explained, “I am practicing the art of being rejected.”

So, what there is for us to do is to look and see just how big our belief is in whatever we are selling (product or opportunity), and, if need be, add strength and size (through exercise, just like you would in the gym) to our belief until it dwarfs our fear of having it–and/or we ourselves–rejected.

Rejection is in the eye (mind, heart) of the beholder. It is never an uninvited guest. And in our business, you give the Big R warmth and comfort at your peril. Network Marketing Success is all about handling the big “R”.

Top 10 Jewish Monuments in Prague

During the past decade, there has been an unexpected surge in interest towards the Jewish culture in medieval Europe. Two international conventions on Jewish heritage in Europe have only helped to fuel the global interest on the subject. At the same time, these meets have provided the much-needed fund to restore and renovate the ancient and medieval period Jewish monuments in the region. And significantly, the Czech capital Prague, with sizable Jewish monuments, has been the hub of such activities that have drawn hordes of tourists from various parts of the globe.

Old Town Square

A visit to the Old Town Square in Prague or Staromestske Namesti, the hub of all activities in the area, is like traveling into the past – back by 600 or 700 years! The visitors are full of admiration and awe as the atmosphere at the place is saturated with glorious as well as the tragic history of the medieval Jews. In addition to the Wenceslas Square, situated at a five minutes’ walking distance, the Old Town Square is the only other city centre in Prague. It is amongst the most beautiful historical locations in entire Europe.

Talking about history, the Old Town Square dates back to the 12th century and was primarily used as Prague’s central marketplace. As many new Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic-style constructions came up around the marketplace over the centuries, the Old Town Square gained in wealth both economically and aesthetically. Today, the most significant tourist attractions at the Old Town Square comprise the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, the Old Town Hall Tower and the Astronomical Clock and the stunning St. Nicholas Church. Right in the heart if the Old Town Square is the statue of the great reformer Jan Hus.

Jewish Town Hall

Originally constructed in the 16th century, the Old Jewish Town Hall is also known as the Zidovska radnice. It is situated adjacent to the Old-New Synagogue in Josefov, but following renovations, today it sports a decorative frontage. The new look was added in the 18th century and has a clock tower with Hebrew figures. The building is known to be funded by the Jewish Town mayor Maisel. Most of parts of the Jewish Town Hall are under the scheduled area and the only part open for the general public is the Kosher Eatery. Currently, the town hall is used as the Jewish Community Center and offers information regarding Jewish tours, activities and events of interest to both the local as well as foreign tourists.

The Old-New Synagogue

The Old-New Synagogue at Josefov in Prague is Europe’s oldest active synagogue and is also known as Altneuschul in German and Staronova synagogue in Czech. Built in the Gothic style in 1270, the Old-New-Synagogue was initially called the New Synagogue or Great Shul. When more synagogues came up in Prague by the 16th century this came to be known as the Old-New Shul or Old-New Synagogue. This is because another synagogue much older to this one and constructed earlier than 1270 was demolished in 1867. The structure of this Gothic style synagogue is outstanding and to reach the foyer one has to climb a flight of nine steps from the street. The foyer opens to a rectangular hall which has six arched bays supported by two large pillars in the middle. The mausoleum has twelve Gothic windows representing the 12 Israeli tribes.

Synagogues of Prague

In all there are seven synagogues in Prague and five of these synagogues can be found in the relics of the Jewish ghetto. Apart from the Old-New Synagogue, there are the Maisel Synagogue, the Pinkas Synagogue, the High Synagogue, the Klausen Synagogue, the Spanish Synagogue and the Jubilee Synagogue. The Maisel Synagogue was built with the permission of Emperor Rudolph II in 1591 and is named after Mordechai Maisel, who funded the construction. On the other hand, the Pinkas Synagogue was built in the Renaissance style. If first finds mention 1492 and was reconstructed in 1953 after floods had destroyed it completely. On the walls of this synagogue there is a list of 77,297 Jews who perished during the World War II. Situated near the Jewish Town Hall, the High Synagogue is named such as it is situated at a great altitude. Near the Old Jewish Cemetery you will find the Klausen Synagogue, which was originally built in 1694 and re-constructed several times. The Spanish Synagogue was built during 1867-8 and is different from the other synagogues in Prague. This synagogue is unique since Moorish decorations were used in its construction. The most modern in this series of synagogues in Prague is the Jubilee Synagogue. This was built in the early 20th century in the New Town and prayer services are held regularly at this synagogue.

Old Jewish Cemetery

Established in the 15th century, the Old Jewish Cemetery is situated in the Josefov area – a primeval Jewish ghetto – and has 12,000 tombstones scattered all over the area. The cemetery was established at a time when the Jews were not permitted to bury their dead outside the area earmarked for the community. As the cemetery area was too congested, bodies were buried here on top of one another. And it is believed that most of the tombstones have twelve layers of burials below them! Currently, no more bodies are buried here and the Jewish Museum in Prague has taken over the responsibility to preserve this chaotic place. Incidentally, the Old Jewish Cemetery was a favorite place for the surrealist writer Franz Kafka who spent much of his idle time here.

Jewish Museum

Founded in 1906, the Jewish Museum in Prague is the arguably the largest of its kind in Europe and has an enormous assortment of sacred Jewish works of art. According to modest estimates, the museum houses around 40,000 artistic artifacts and 100,000 items of printed fabric. Synagogue objects like textiles and silver include almost two-thirds of the museum’s huge collection. The exhibits of the Jewish Museum are to be found in six different locations of historic importance. They include the Maisel Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Pinkas Synagogue, the Ceremonial Hall, the Spanish Synagogue and the Klausen Synagogue. The museum not only comprises synagogues and exhibitions on the Jew community’s past, but also promotes contemporary Jewish art and culture. The Robert Guttmann Gallery situated near the Spanish Synagogue is an ideal example of such promotional activities.

The Jewish Quarter

The Jewish Quarter or Josefov in Prague is akin to a ghetto where the members of the Jewish community were compelled to live in the early days. The Jewish settlement in the area dates back to the 10th century. Prior to and during the World War II, all the Jews residing in the area was required to wear clothes with special markings on them to identify their community. The place has an old cemetery, numerous old buildings and many old synagogues. However, prayer services are not held in most of these synagogues, as the Jewish population in Prague has diminished from 120,000 before the World War II to just 8,000 now. And many of these 8,000 Jews also no longer reside in the region today. The place is, however, being re-built now and has already got rid of its clumsy look.

Franz Kafka House

If you are in Prague, you cannot miss Franz Kafka. Whether you are in a library, bookstore or any other place, the shadow of the great surrealist writer of the 20th century will always loom large. While Kafka’s house, where he stayed with his sister for a few months, is located at the beginning of the Golden Lane, his statue stands near the synagogues in the Jewish colony. Presently, Kafka’s house is being used as a museum where outfits, armaments and works of art of the middle ages are on display. For the uninhabited, the writings of Franz Kafka, who was born in Czechoslovakia, but spoke German, mostly became popular after his death. He primarily wrote about the loneliness of the 20th century man, the bureaucratic maze and his fears. Among Kafka’s most famous novel is ‘The castle and The Trial’ that best demonstrates Kafkaesque characters and the features of his unique writing style. He succumbed to tuberculosis in 1924.

The Hebrew Clock

Another attraction of the Old Town Square in Prague is the Hebrew Clock of the Old Jewish Town Hall in Josefov. The clock, established in 1410, is interesting in many ways. While the clock has Hebrew numbers and runs in an anti-clock manner, it does not depict time. On the contrary, the clock depicts the days of the Christian calendar, phases of the moon, seasons and equinoxes. On the upper windows, there is a 30-second demonstration of apostles, deadly skeletons and a crowing cock every hour that mesmerizes and often scares the tourists. On a pane above this Hebrew Clock there is another clock with Roman numbers.

Jewish Ceremonial Hall

Located in Jewish Quarter, the Jewish Ceremonial Hall is also known as Obradni Sin. It was built in neo-renaissance style in 1911-12. Noted architect J. Gerstl planned the structure that was to be used for the Jewish Burial Society. The construction was initially utilized as a ceremonial hall and mortuary, but now it forms a part of the Jewish Museum of Prague. Currently, the Jewish Ceremonial Hall houses a permanent exhibition relating to Jewish history.

It can be anything. Don’t know how to swim? It’s never too late to learn. Always wanted to play the piano? Start taking lessons this summer. Dream of going to France? What’s stopping you from learning the language? You’ll feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. You’ll meet new people (see #1 above!). Your self-esteem will grow. And who knows, you may just discover a new talent.

3. Overcome a Fear

The Health Continuum

The Health continuum can be seen as a straight line graph, with the left hand side of that graph being subtle energy healing work done through the means of shamanism, and the right side of the graph being all the way over to healing work done through surgery . At the left, where shamanism begins the graph, marks the least invasive means possible to attain health, and at the extreme right where surgery is, marks the most invasive means possible to attain health. Notice that this graph is on one sheet of paper, and it is a continuum, which means there is no "better or worse" or "works or does not" mark anywhere on that graph. In between the two points of shamanism and surgery, are any and all other means to health including massage, herbs, acupressure, acupuncture, chiropractic work, and drugs. In the world of the Shaman Of The New Millennium, right out of the book The Steel Shaman, in that all inclusive world, there are no means nor methods left out of this continuum.

The reason there are no mean and methods left out of this continuum, is that at every point on that graph, certain means and methods work the best. For instance, at the point where someone has a brain tumor, and it's metastasizing, and their belief level in subcontle energy work is low, you do not want to recommend shamanistic healing work to them. What you want to recommend to them is surgery. I have a good friend, who had a brain tumor, and I asked her if she wanted to use energy work first before chemotherapy, and before she would have to have surgery. Her answer? "No." She knew what her belief level was, and she also knew what she wanted as treatment. In her own words, "this is my path." And as a shaman and healer, in honoring that path, I instantly did whatever I could to support her in her healing modality choice. There was no right way, no wrong way, but rather, only the right way for her.

Now people often have the misperception that any certain modality should work no matter what, but truth is, in effecting and supporting a cure, not a single one of the modalities on the Health Continuum Graph, work all the time, and at all points on Someone's health path. People have demonstrated success with any one of them, and no success with any one of them, period. There are so many factors involved in an individual's healing process, that to say that a modality will work all the time is like saying that every seed you plant will sprout. It just does not happen. And the reason that Shamans Of The New Millennium live and practice in an all-inclusive world is the recognition of just this fact. Because in order to assist a client in healing, a shaman has to ask many questions, and present many options, with no one being the "better one" but instead, the one chosen being the modality that has the greatest statistical chance of working with The client at that time.

For instance, at the beginning stages of any disease, using energy healing work can produce dramatic results. Yet for the minority healing energy modality to work on a metastasized tumor, the belief level of the patient would have to be unusually high, and the clarity of the practiceer is very pure, for that method to work, at that point. The illusion that subtle energy work always works on any case, regardless of progress, is a dangerous illusion. What energy work is, is subtle and non-invasive, and under the right conditions, seemingly works to affect a cure that is often seen as miraculous. Miraculous, because neither the patient nor the people around them, can necessarily see what's going on, but that something is going on, of that you can be certain. I have used the mixture energy work modality on curing gout, heart attacks, arthritis, dislocated shoulders, major wounds down to the bone, and tooth problems to name only a few. In each case, the client receiving the treatment had a very high level of belief in the work being done, and then along with my own clarity which allowed more and more healing energy to be summoned from Source into their energy field, a complete and lasting Cure was effected. As a Shaman of The New Millennium, I did not do it, I was merely assisted the cure in being transported out through my clarity and belief level. Had their belief been less, had the practitioner been less clear, then the cure would not have been successful.

In no less a way, the belief level necessary, and the patient's confidence in the doctor administrating the healing modality, is equally important in surgery. And yes, when you surrender your body to a surgeon who is going to cut off a limit to save the patient, in such extremely invasive procedures, there is not much room for the need in belief levels for the patient, but that's just the Nature of invasiveness. It's done and succeeds in its goal, regardless of what the patient is doing most times. Sometimes the patient dies, and the reasons for that in any modality, is a topic for a different article. Suffice it to say that the point being made here is, on the left side of the Health Continuum, where the least invasive means are used to effect health, an inverse graph indicating patient participation could be drawn. All the way to the left, it's necessary to have the most patient participation, including mindset and belief level, and at the right side of the graph it's the least patient participation necessary, when the most invasive means are being used. Again, there is no right or wrong means, only the right means for you.

For my part, as both a healer, and at times a patient, I would always choose the least invasive means first, going up the healing scale until the point is reached where healing is effected. This scale of choice is not about seeing surgery as wrong, and shamanism as right, but rather, seeing that to choose the least invasive means first, going up to the most invasive means until healing occurs, is the most sensible course of action to Take. And again, an assessment must be made of the client as to their needs before before any modality. For instance, if they have cancer and their belief level is low, they need to go immediately to the most invasive means that they believe in. Saving the patient's life is the primary concern regardless of the modality chosen. But if they are not in critical condition, and their disease progress is slow, right at the beginning of their journey, then using the least invasive means first will be much more effective than cutting off their arm because they have a cut at the end of Their index finger. A dramatic example, but nonetheless, a completely valid one. I have seen clients choose invasive medicine at the wrong point in their disease, and die because of it. In fact, the AMA itself has come out with figures indicating that over a hundred and twenty-five thousand cases of misdiagnosis and over medication deaths occur in the US each year. If the AMA publishes those reported cases, I would surmise that the actual cases are much more in number than this.

This revelation is not being used here to say that the means and methods used were wrong at all, but rather, they may have been used at the wrong time. You can bet, that if a client comes to me as a shaman to do subtle energy work with them, and they have a hatchet sticking out of their heads, I am most certainly not going to sit back and chant. I'm going to call 911 and get them to a surgeon, because it would be obvious to me that subtle energy work was not their path at that time. Now after their surgeon removes the hatchet, and they sew up the client, if they then desire support through heel healing energy work to get better faster, then I am there for them. Although a Hollywood style dramatization, this mis-choosing of modality happens all the time, with dire results. I have seen eight year old children die as a result of their parents choosing to believe that naturopathy was going to heal their child while they were in diabetic shock. Tragic in out, but again, another clear mis-choice circumstance. Because on both ends of the Health Continuum, this mis-choosing happens all the time. It happens, because people are so busy arguing about what method is better than any other method rather than prescribing with regard to what method, regardless of method, would be best for the patient at the particular point they are at on their healing path. This careful consideration would demand thought analysis, correct diagnosis, and a full exploration of the true cause for the disease in the first place. And then only from that informed place, hand in hand, can the desired healing take place, in a world of the inclusion of all means and methods for healing possible.

As a Shaman Of The New Millennium, and healer, or a patient, if you think about it, do not you want to know about every single healing modality possible, rather than to be told that "all those others are bunk" when in Truth, and in empirical practice, each one of those modalities has its advantageous healing effects, depending upon a series of discovered and investigated factors that are more linked to the revelation of what the patient needs at that particular time, than the revelation of what the Advantages of any one modality are? In other words, medicine, regardless of the practice, should be more patient driven, than modality driven, because it's in the diagnosis, study, and observation of the patient, where the greatest clues to their needs will be found, not in the study Or application of any one modality. And when effecting such curing, where the patient and their exact and particular needs are addressed, this practice then causes the most rapid and complete cure possible to be experienced. A cure. And is not that the point of any healing practice to begin with?

What Exactly is Cold Smoking?

Cold smoking is very similar to hot smoking, except the cooking temperature is
Much lower. The targeted cold smoking temperature range is between 80 degrees F
And 100 degrees F, and the smoking time can range anywhere from 4 hours to 4

A few examples of foods that are usually cold-smoked include bacon, sausage,

Cold smoking is very difficult, and even impossible in the summer months, because

How it Works

The key to cold-smoking is using smoke to cure the food. To achieve such a low
Cooking temperature while cooking with smoke, the fire needs to be in a separate
Container than the food being smoked. The smoke is transferred to the cooking
Container by piping, and the heat can be easily regulated.

If you are using a wood smoker with a offset fire box, it can be very hard to
Consistently maintain the low temperature needed for cold smoking. The easiest
Way I have found to achieve the low cooking temperature is to use a charcoal starter
To light only a few coals at a time. When the coals in the smoker burn down, simply
Use the starter to light more charcoal, to add a small amount of charcoal that is
Already lit to the fire box. Then wood chips can be added to produce smoke.

1. Cut the Salmon filets into 3×6 inch pieces.

2. Prepare a brine solution of salt, brown sugar, and water. The salt to brown sugar
Ratio is 2: 1. With 2.5 gallons of water, you will need 7 cups of salt, and 3.5 cups of

Terminalia Arjuna – Complete Heart Tonic

General Description

Arjuna is a tall tree which is very valuable in Ayurvedic medicine. It has been recorded since very old times when it was referred to as nadisarja and was used as a cardiac tonic. The great Indian proponent of ancient medicine, Vagabhatta, was the first to use the bark of the arjuna for heart ailments.

The arjuna is indigenous to India, but is also found in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. It is found mostly near marshy areas. It can reach up to a height of 20 to 27 meters. Its binomial name is Terminalia arjuna.

All parts of the arjuna are important in Ayurvedic medicine. Its bark is the most valuable, which gives a milky white sap when cut. The bark contains a valuable alkaloid, which is named as the arjunine. Other chemicals in arjuna are arjunetin, lactone, sugars and several essential oils.

Properties

The following properties of arjuna make it indispensable in Ayurvedic medicine:-

(i) Arjuna has cooling and tonic effects, and hence it is invaluably used as a cardiac stimulant.

(ii) Arjuna helps in blood clotting. So it can be used in arresting bleeding.

(iii) Arjuna is a diuretic. It is used in removing calculi, which are kidney and urinary stones.

(iv) Arjuna improves the secretion and function of the bile in the body.

(v) Arjuna has astringent properties.

(vi) Arjuna is believed to be an aphrodisiac, but these properties are not yet studied conclusively.

Uses

Arjuna has been used in the following disorders:-

(i) Acne

Arjuna is potent in the healing of pimples. Here arjuna is used for external administration. The powdered bark is mixed with honey and applied on the pimples. This helps in the speedy recovery from acne.

(ii) Asthma

Arjuna is a good Ayurvedic remedy for asthmatic patients. The bark of the arjuna is finely powdered and stores in an airtight bottle. This powder is to be consumed after a fast which is broken by a mixture of condensed milk in rice, known as kheer. Twelve grams of the powder of the arjuna bark is to be sprinkled over the kheer. The person must sleep only twelve hours after eating this. This is considered to be a permanent solution for asthma.

(iii) Bone fractures

Arjuna bark is effective in the treatment of bone fractures and contusions. The powder of the bark is taken with honey.

(iv) Digestive Problems

In cases of diarrhea and dysentery, the person is given a decoction of 15 to 30 grams of the arjuna bark.

(v) Earache

Arjuna can heal earache problems. The juice of the fresh leaves of the arjuna is extracted and is put into the ear drop by drop. A couple of drops each time is sufficient to treat earaches.

(vi) Heart Disorders

The greatest use of arjuna is made in the treatment of heart ailments. Arjuna has a terrific stimulating action on the heart. For this reason, it is used in the treatment of cardiac failure and dropsy. Ayurvedic physicians prescribe arjuna tonics to people who have heart conditions.

Here’s one way in which arjuna is used for the treatment of heart patients:

A thick portion of the bark is taken and put in milk. This is made into a pasty decoction. This is to be taken every morning before eating anything else.

Alternatively, the powder of the bark of the arjuna must be taken every morning on an empty stomach in quantities of 1 to 2 grams with milk and jaggery.

(vii) Loss of Libido

Arjuna is believed to be an aphrodisiac. Hence, a powder of this bark is prescribed to men and women who have low libido. The powder must be taken with milk and continuously for a particular period of time for it to show effects.

(viii) Skin Problems

Due to its astringent properties, arjuna is used for the treatment of skin problems such as sores and ulcers. A decoction of the herb is prepared and is applied externally over the sores and ulcers. Treatment is fast compared to other methods.

(ix) Syphilis

A decoction of the arjuna herb is applied to syphilitic sores. This reduces the symptoms of the syphilitic sores and aids in total elimination of the disease from the body.

Special Ayurvedic Preparations

Arjunarishta

Arjunarishta is prepared from the extract of the leaves and bark of the arjuna plant. It is a liquid tonic that is used mainly in the treatment of heart diseases. Six teaspoonfuls of this tonic are taken twice daily after meals with water in equal amounts. This is excellent remedy for hridaroga (heart diseases) due to all the three doshic imbalances, i.e. vataja, pittaja and kaphaja.

Arjuna ghrita

Arjuna ghrita is prepared by boiling the bark of the arjuna in cow’s ghee. This is given to the patients of heart diseases in dosages of one teaspoon twice in a day. Preferably, the ghrita must be given on an empty stomach with warm milk.

Precautions

Arjuna must be avoided by obese people. Arjuna has a tendency to increase the fat content of the body. Especially in the case of obese people, the intake of arjuna may do more harm to the cardiovascular system than benefits.

The unfortunate reality is that many triathletes suffer from the "no pain, no gain" mentality. It is beneficial to push on when exhaustion is pounding on the door. Ignoring the minor pains that signal an emerging injury can put you out of the game. Your coach is someone to filter those aches and pains through. You need the voice of reason and experience telling you when to back off.

Injury is your nemesis. A stress fracture in the foot will equal huge fitness losses while the bone heals. If you tear your Achilles tendon, you may never run the same again. If you feel an odd pain, talk to your coach about it. She will then make adjustments to avert disaster while keeping your training on schedule.

INJURY PREVENTION

Overuse injuries are common and preventable in triathletes. Preventing them requires 1) personal experience in the sport 2) solid understanding of biomechanics, and 3) the ability to craft a plan that will build strength without inviting injury. The fastest way from start to finish is to swim, bike and run as fast as you are capable without stopping. The only way to do this is to train as hard as possible without stopping to heal an injury or recover from burnout.
