Should You Take Vitamin Supplements When You Are Under Treatment With An SSRI Anti Depressant Drug?

SSRI drugs are used mainly in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders though they also used for some off-label indications such as pre-menstrual disorders, and menopausal and post-menopause problems. The term ‘SSRI’ is abbreviation for ‘selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor’. Some of the common SSRI dugs are Lexapro, Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft, and Effexor among others.

How they act: SSRIs act by restoring balance of serotonin in the brain cells. Serotonin is the mood-influencing neurotransmitter that flows through brain cells. The fact that a person is suffering from depression or an anxiety disorder means the serotonin flow in the brain is not in a state of balance. By restoring balance of serotonin, the person’s mood starts getting better and he feels less depressed or less anxious.

Toxicity: SSRIs have a safe toxicity profile in comparison to other anti-depressants such as tricyclics, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and many others. SSRIs do come with side-effects, some of which can be pretty severe, but few are life-threatening in an overwhelming majority of cases. Most side-effects of SSRIs are manageable and fade away as treatment is tapered off. Nevertheless, caution must be exercised over the essential nutritional supplements – such as vitamins — one takes in course of treatment with an SSRI.

Vitamins and SSRIs: It is best to depend on natural vitamins available through regular food such as milk, peas, spinach, avocado, etc. These are foods that provide essential nutrients to the body on a daily basis. However, to depend only on food for all essential nutrients requires a level of expertise in nutritional matters, which is difficult for most people to access. Therefore, it is understandable if patients under an SSRI treatment feel the need for artificial vitamin supplements: as it is, weakness is often a symptom of depression and anxiety disorders.

There is a large number of multi-vitamin complex products available in the US market. Many of them contain added synthetic chemicals, which again is difficult for you to know. So, as a matter of rule, abide by the following:

* Ensure there is no Vitamin K in the multi-vitamin complex. It is well-established that excess of Vitamin K in the body worsens the symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders.

* Ensure that all B-vitamins that you take through an artificial medicine add up to slightly LESS than the minimum recommended for a day. Most B-vitamins stimulate the central nervous system, while SSRI sedates it; so here is a conflict in their respective actions.

* If the multi-vitamin complex contains Vitamin B3, make sure it is niacinamide, and not niacine. The latter can aggravate your problem and take it back to what it was when you started the SSRI treatment.

Conclusion: It is best to avoid artificial, synthetic nutritional supplements when you are under treatment for depression and anxiety problems. However, if you must take multi-vitamin supplements (to combat the weakness that often is a symptom of the depression and anxiety), make be careful about Vitamin K, the B-vitamins as indicated above.

Anxiety Attack Symptoms – This Is All You Need to Know About Anxiety and Panic Attack Symptoms

There has been an increase in the number of people suffering anxiety attack symptoms that it has become a concern to medical specialists. More or less, 25% of Americans would need professional treatment from anxiety in some point in their lives. This condition can be the cause of hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure.

Modern medicine and the pharmaceutical industry have portrayed anxiety as a sickness that can only be cured by the drugs they sell and because of this more and more people are not getting the right treatment for their anxiety.

The best approach to remove anxiety is to improve your overall wellness, get your body in shape and improve your physical and mental state. If your health improves, your anxiety attack symptoms would disappear. This kind of treatment is better compared to taking in drugs that have side effects.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety has various levels; It can range from just low level stress up to a full anxiety attack. If you are experiencing hot flashes having difficulty breathing, dizziness and heart palpitations then you are experiencing anxiety attack symptoms.

Some of the other anxiety attacks symptoms are facial swelling, breaking out of sweat in hives, headaches, dilation of the pupils, chest pains, nausea and chills. Cramps with bloating are also anxiety attack symptoms that affect digestion.

Think of the above conditions and couple it with panic, dread and feeling overwhelmed and you now have a very serious condition. This is the reason why anxiety treatment medications are in demand.

Medical Anxiety Treatment

Normally, doctors would prescribe drugs that contain anti depressants and Anxiolytics that come in the form of Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or SRIs. These SRIs are sometimes beneficial when it comes to reducing or minimizing severe anxiety attack symptoms.

Although these drugs work, they are often addictive and have dangerous side effects. Some of the side effects can sometimes be more dangerous than the anxiety being experienced. On top of this, withdrawals also happen and often last for weeks or even months.

The problem is that doctors today often are not 100% honest in giving advice to patients taking anxiety medications. The dangerous side effects and withdrawal symptoms are often not discussed and options for alternative treatments are not given.

Waist Cinchers – Are They For You?

If you keep up with fashion trends, chances are you’ve heard a thing or two about waist cinchers. Many women have embraced the revival in corsets and waist trainers today! They have been around for 500 years or more… they’re not exactly new! Back in the day, women fought for the right to go without wearing them. Now, they’re back in style! Before you join in the fun, keep these things in mind.

What is a Waist Cincher, Exactly?

A waist cincher can also be known as a corset or waist trainer. It’s an undergarment that wraps around the waist to give it shape. It has vertical steel boning in it to provide the contouring. It will have a laced-up portion, usually in the back, that can be used for adjusting the level of tightness on the waist.

When Did We Start Thinking that this was a Good Idea?

Between 1500 and 1550, they made corsets with whale bone instead of steel boning. They called them “bodices”. By 1796, the high Empire waist came into style. With it, corsets didn’t need to be as tight and restricting as they had been. They followed the more natural curve of a woman’s body.

During the Victorian era, the Empire waist was gone and corsets were back with a vengeance. They added different materials into the build. Can you imagine a corset made of steel or wood? During the 1920’s women started to rebel against wearing the uncomfortable contraptions.

The Dior couture look has been credited for bringing back the hourglass waist look in 1947. In the fifties, girdles did the job of keeping the average woman looking pretty in her A line dresses.

The sixties and seventies… well, we know what happened there. Women didn’t even want to wear bras, let alone girdles or corsets. Fast forward to now. Spanx are in, waist trainers and corsets are back on the scene. It’s interesting to wonder what comes in the future for underwear.

How a Waist Cincher Works

While you are wearing it, you may have a tiny waist. It works by pushing the water weight out of your waist. It can bend your ribs and shift your organs too. Some people talk about a lasting effect, but evidence shows that it’s not true. The results will only be temporary, as it all goes back to normal shortly after you remove the cincher.

Some women love the look of tight lacing. This is just what it sounds like, and involves tightening up the lacing incrementally. Although this may be painful, it gives you the tiniest waist. Experts warn against lacing too tightly, and breaking a rib. Bruising in the ribs is not uncommon in women that choose to engage in tight lacing.

Do Cinchers Offer a Shortcut for Body Shaping?

We are all hoping for a shortcut… a pill, ointment, or device such as the waist cincher to help us have a nicer shape. It news is in – it’s still diet and exercise that needs to be in place to lose weight and shape up. Always keep in mind that the shape of your waist is going to be directly related to your genetics. If hourglass waistlines run in your family, you’ve got a better chance than most of having one. Heredity is your best chance at a slim waist… or not!

Now, some women will swear by them. They insist that they’ve been proven for centuries. And that they definitely work in getting you the body shape you’re looking for. It’s true that women have depended on them through the ages. It’s also true that women have suffered the effects on their bodies. Bruised and cracked ribs, organ damage, and fainting spells are the tradeoff for the perfect figure in waist cinchers.

Of course, plastic surgeons would argue that a better, safer result could be realized through surgery. Tummy tucks offer a way to immediately trim fat from the midsection. In cases of obesity, bariatric surgery will get the weight off, but under medical supervision.

For long term weight loss and body shaping, particularly in the waist, core exercises will do the trick. Add in some good aerobic exercise on a regular basis, and you’re on your way to a slimmer waist.

Are Cinchers Safe to Use?

Aside from the questionable benefits, there are some real health dangers. Relying on a corset or waist cincher to trim those inches can cause damage. Here’s the lowdown.

Using these things will cause problems with your breathing. This may lead to lung problems. This may lead to damage to the lungs. When you deprive your body of oxygen, you set yourself up for metabolic problems. These metabolic problems can lead to weight gain.

So, you may get the opposite effect from the results you set out to achieve.

I Still Want to Try It… What Should I Watch Out For?

What if all this information hasn’t swayed you away from waist cincher and waist trainers? If you’re going to go ahead with it anyway, keep the following in mind:

  • Only wear the waist cincher for a few hours at a time.
  • Wear one that fits properly – not too loose or too tight
  • Stop and take it off if you feel any numbness, tingling, breathing trouble, or stomach pain

NEVER work out in a waist cincher- that’s very dangerous. You must be able to breathe during your workout!

Wearing a waist cincher continuously will cause damage to your health and body. Your ribs may shift and become bruised. Your organs will most likely become redistributed or damaged.

Are There any Advantages to Wearing a Waist Cincher?

Actually, there is one. Looking on the bright side, there is a benefit for those who have had back pain, injury, or back surgery. Wearing a waist cincher or corset while recuperating may help. They can offer support and pain relief to those dealing with back issues.

Now, there is a fashion element to waist cinchers and corsets. Some women wear them outside their clothes to show them off.

I hope you found this information useful. Waist cinchers aren’t for everyone, but make sure you have the facts before you start a waist training program!

Infertility: Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis

When it comes to fertility, pelvic pain is usually associated with the menstrual cycle. Most women experience a painful sensation in their pelvic area before menstruation starts, while there are a few women who experience little or no pain. It is important to note if there is a distinction in the pelvic pain that you experience.

If you are familiar with the pain caused before or during your menstrual cycle then it may cover up another symptom that is causing the pain. In other words, if you notice that the pain you feel is stronger than usual or is not in the same area, it will be advisable to seek the opinion of a gynaecologist. Also take note of when the pain occurs. Although it may feel like the usual period pain, if it occurs throughout the month and not necessarily when you are due to have your menstruation, then something else could be wrong.

With endometriosis, pelvic pain is a common symptom. Pain may be felt before, during or after menstruation. It could also be felt during ovulation or in the bowel during menstruation. It’s possible to feel pain when passing urine, during or after sexual intercourse or in the lower back region.

There are also other symptoms associated with endometriosis which include diarrhoea, constipation, or abdominal bloating that are all connected with menstruation. Heavy or irregular bleeding is another symptom as well as fatigue. Another well-known symptom of endometriosis is infertility. An estimated 30% to 40% of women with endometriosis are considered to be sub-fertile. It is important to note that you need to consult with a gynaecologist or fertility doctor to assess what your symptoms represent. Endometriosis causes infertility by means of distorted adnexal anatomy that prevents the ovum capture after ovulation. It also interferes with the oocyte development or early embryogenesis. It can also result in reduced endometrial receptivity.

In certain cases there are no or few symptoms associated with this disease however it has decreased pregnancy rates despite little visible organ damage. In general, endometriosis lesions can be found anywhere in the pelvic cavity. It could be on the ovaries, on the fallopian tubes or on the pelvic sidewall. In other cases, it could be found on the uterosacral ligaments, on the cul-de-sac, in the pouch of Douglas or in the rectal vaginal septum. If you are concerned about any pelvic pain that you may be experiencing, you will need to visit a gynaecologist for a pelvic examination.

Hyperthyroidism – Can a Certain Diet Help?

When the thyroid is functioning properly, it absorbs the iodine found in many of the foods we eat and converts it into two kinds of hormones: T3 and T4. These two hormones are released into the bloodstream to control and monitor all the body’s metabolic processes. However, if the thyroid produces too much of these two hormones, a condition known as hyperthyroidism occurs. This means the body’s metabolism speeds up abnormally, which can lead to an increased heartbeat (or even heart palpitations), sweating, overheating, fatigue, swelling of the thyroid gland (goiter), hair loss, insomnia, and weight loss.

Hyperthyroidism usually occurs in people between the age of 20-40, as well as pregnant women or any individual undergoing a great deal of stress. One of the most common manifestations of this disorder is Grave’s disease, in which the pituitary gland — the “master” gland located at the base of the brain which controls all the other glands in the body — mistakenly instructs the thyroid to release too many T3 and T4 hormones. The opposite of this condition is of course hypothyroidism, wherein the thyroid does not produce enough of the hormones required to maintain a proper metabolic rate. Ironically, however, many of the symptoms are the same in both conditions.

Although weight loss may seem to be the obvious correlation of an overactive thyroid, recent studies have shown that despite an increased metabolism, many people suffering from hyperthyroidism have in fact actually gained significant amounts of weight, and continued to gain weight after they were treated. This is most likely due to the increased appetite that results from a faster metabolism, in addition to an inability to burn off the extra calories because of weakness, apathy and depression — three other symptoms associated with this disorder.

Another possible explanation for the weight gain in an individual with hyperthyroidism could be that since the overabundance of T3 and T4 originally prevented the patient’s body from ever regulating itself, the individual can no longer properly monitor his or her caloric intake, even with normalized hormone levels. Making a concerted effort to maintain a proper diet and a strict exercise regimen can help alleviate some of the weight gain experienced by people with hyperthyroidism.

While treatment of hyperthyroidism might involve the use of drugs such as radioactive iodine (or other forms of medication designed to slow down the production of T3 and T4 by the thyroid), or even having part of the thyroid removed surgically, some nutritional experts recommend a diet high in Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C and calcium. Certain foods known to inhibit thyroid overproduction include cauliflower, beans, green leafy vegetables and soy. Herbs such as mother wort, turmeric and bugleweed have also been known to stabilize the thyroid gland, but of course one should always check with one’s health care practitioner before attempting to diagnose or especially to treat an ailment of this type of severity.

Amoxicillin / Pot Clavulanate (Generic Augmentin)

How does Augmentin work?
The effect of Augmentin, which works by stopping bacteria from forming cell walls, has been approved by the FDA. The Amoxicillin in Augmentin cuts off the bonds that keep bacterial cell walls together and thereby kills the bacteria. The clavulanate potassium on the other hand is a beta-lactase inhibitor that works to restrict certain bacteria from developing immunity against amoxicillin. In combination, these two drugs provide protection against the widest possible range of bacterial infections.

Side Effects of Augmentin
You might experience both mild and severe Augmentin side effects depending on the dosage prescribed to you by your doctor. If your symptoms feel dangerous and include bloody diarrhoea, pale or yellowed skin, confusion, easy bruising, skin rash, confusion, fever, sore throat and severe blistering of the skin, contact your doctor immediately and get alternatives prescribed. However, milder Augmentin side effects such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, skin rash, and vaginal infection just require an adjustment of the dose.

Augmentin can be safely prescribed to adults, children as well as pregnant women as there are no known Augmentin side effects during pregnancy. As with most other prescription medications, alcohol consumption is not advisable while Augmentin treatment is on as alcohol can cause Augmentin side effect symptoms to worsen or interfere with the drug’s working.

Guidelines before Taking
You should ideally take your Augmentin dosage just before your meals as this would reduce possible Augmentin side effects in your stomach. Do not stop taking this medication midway through the regimen even if you feel your infection is cured. It might be temporary relief and the infection can rebound.

What are the common dosages of Augmentin?
Augmentin dosages are generally available in two strengths wherein the amount of clavulanate potassium remains constant at 125mg while amoxicillin concentration is either 250mg or 500mg. Your doctor will decide which dosage is ideal for you depending on his diagnosis of your condition and severity of infection.

Difference between Augmentin and Generic Amoxicillin / Pot Clavulanate
GSK is the company that has created the brand Augmentin and received FDA approval for it. Generic Amoxicillin / Pot Clavulanate on the other hand does not carry any brand name and can be manufactured by anyone, though Cipla is a one of the biggest known manufacturers. While the tablet shape, size and colour of branded Augmentin are standardised, you can find and buy generic Amoxicillin / Pot Clavulanate drugs in many different forms. Similarly pricing conventions also apply only to the branded version and not the generic ones.

Cold Sore On Lips

A lip sore is also known as a cold sore. This is quite painful and is very annoying. It commonly occurs around the lip area. Cold sores are caused due to a virus called as the herpes simplex. This virus is contagious however it is not known to cause any deaths. Other disorders such as herpetic whitlow, herpes gladiatorum, ocular herpes (keratitis), cerebral herpes infection encephalitis, Mollaret’s meningitis, neonatal herpes, and possibly Bell’s palsy are all caused by herpes simplex viruses. Cold sore is contagious, meaning it can be can spread by direct contact such as a kiss, or through contact with an infected towel, toothbrush, food utensils, and any other shared things. It is painful, embarrassing and very frustrating.

Many people acquire the virus as infants, when they are around a large group of other kids. When a person is infected by the virus, it is for life. There are no known cures for oral herpes, however there are many treatments that can prevent, ease and shorten the time of outbreaks. The symptoms look similar to blisters and usually appear near the skin on your lips or mouth. Normally you will experience itchiness, swelling and soreness in a day or two near you lips, and then appears small, red or brown painful blisters. Many individuals carry more benign versions of the cold sore virus and these are more easily suppressed by the immune system. Another factor is the immune system itself. Depending upon a person’s genetics, their immune systems can react to viral invaders with varying degrees of severity.

Home remedy can be your best treatment solution to cure your cold sore, because they contain substances that build up immune system in your body to heal from the infection and helping you manage with a lifelong condition. Lips do not have the normal protection that our skin has.  Hair, oil and sweat glands are not present in our lips.  Oil glands make our skin smooth while sweat glands regulate our body temperature and also help in fighting off bacteria. Basically a cold sore will start with a tingling sensation on your lip. You won’t see it, but you’ll feel it coming. After a few days of this you’ll have a nice looking cold sore on your lip and it will remain like that for another few days.

In order to get rid of such sores you need to be healthy from the inside and thus make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of fresh fruit juices, yogurt and take multivitamins. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Many people experience an unpleasant tingling or itching sensation at the site of an imminent outbreak. This “prodrome” can occur a couple of days or even hours before redness or that first tiny blister appears. Prescription anti-viral medications for herpes work by interfering with viral replication, thereby slowing the replication rate of the virus and giving the immune system more of a chance to shut the virus down before it can cause problems.

Are Your Thoughts About Others From the Ego or the Heart?

I was thinking about someone who has a tendency, or I should say an addiction, to consistently repeat or tell about unpleasant moments as (usually) her only conversation topics: “I remember when (this awful thing happened to me/this person did this awful thing to me)” or “Let me tell you about the latest unpleasant thing that happened (or what this person did/said to me).” This person has a steamer trunk filled with such topics, and more keep getting added in. I’m sure there are good memories in that trunk, but they don’t seem to rise to the surface as easily. In fact, it stopped her in her tracks one time when she was going through her list of unpleasant memories and I asked, “What is one of your favorite memories?” Once she was able to blink again, she said, “Why did you ask me that?” I told her I was just curious and would like to hear about one. It was the briefest she ever spoke about an experience; she did it in one brief sentence rather than her usual short or long story. This is an example of what happens to people when the ego, rather than the heart, is allowed to dominate, because the ego feeds on drama.

As I thought about this person’s tendency, I did what a lot of us do, which is I had an imaginary conversation with her where I suggested that what could be focused on was, “I remember when (this good thing happened, this person did this wonderful thing for me),” and so on, instead of the usual. And then I realized I was practicing exactly what the person practices. What an eye-opening reminder for me-yet again (sigh). It’s so easy to see what others do and miss the fact that we might do or are doing the very same thing, even if our version or justification for doing so appears to be different, at least, to us.

Following “I remember when” with good, touching, or funny stories shouldn’t be reserved for funerals. Stories told at funerals often recall acts of kindness or generosity the person did for them and or for others, funny moments shared with the person, the person’s best traits. And this happens despite anything else that occurred while the person was alive. I’m not saying this is always the case, but it does happen more often than not, or has in my experience. And if prior disputes or conflicts are mentioned, the tone of voice is usually softer; it and the words chosen wear the hue of compassion rather than animosity, or at least are spoken with the awareness that speaking ill of the deceased is frowned upon at such a time. Perhaps certain moments that originally irritated or angered the teller with the departed are now told with a tinge of humor. It’s amazing how many negative feelings carried for years about a person can be released or are when the person passes on. Maybe this is because the heart finally tells the ego to be quiet for a change, and forgiveness is allowed to release both individuals at that time, too late in some ways, but allowed.

In Doreen Virtue’s book, Assertiveness for Earth Angels, she has an interesting chapter called “Toxic Relationships: How to Recognize and Handle Them.” The toxic relationship types include Interrupting, Correcting, One-upmanship, Clingy Neediness, Stalking, Guilt-Tripping, Angerholism, Unreliability, Nosiness, Grumpiness, Accusatory Tendencies, Victimhood/Martyrdom, Controlling Behavior, Perpetual Clowning, Loudness, Substance Abuse, Lack of Boundaries, Name-Calling, Rudeness, Betrayal, Gossiping, One-sidedness, Drama Queen or King, Taking Advantage, Barbed Tongue, and Nonstop Talking. Phew! Look at those listings! I’ll bet that you, just as I, could readily assign those types to people you engage in relationships with or did. Would we also be as quick to list our name beside one or more of them, as behaviors we practice ourselves at times or more often?

One thing I know, based on experience-and it is all too easy to forget when we’re frustrated-is that practicing negative or judgmental thoughts about others, including when you’re not in their company, creates more of the same and serves to aggravate you even more. It stagnates or depletes your inner and physical energy, as well. It may satisfy the ego (temporarily) to engage thoughts and words in this way, but deep down, it doesn’t make us feel good at all. Not really. It also means that while we point one finger at another, three fingers point back at us.

It points out the fact that we have not addressed whatever issue we have with the person in a constructive and productive and peaceful way, if that’s possible-sometimes, it flat-out isn’t. Sometimes, you have to end a relationship with a person who practices one or more of those behavior types Doreen listed. Sometimes, it isn’t possible or realistic to end the relationship and keep your spiritual integrity intact at the same time, which means there’s an opportunity to learn about yourself and your potential for personal and spiritual growth that’s trying to step out of the shadows into the light.

The thing is that we tend to put our focus on others. What others do is what they do; it may be how they are, until they decide to change, if that ever happens. And they, as we, are here to learn their own lessons in their own way and in their own timing. When we observe or experience another’s behavior, it’s also an opportunity to look at ourselves. How do we feel about their behaviors and why do we feel that way? How do we feel about ourselves, and why? How do we respond or react? Is it with aggression, passivity, passive-aggression, people-pleasing, or assertiveness?

Assertiveness means we speak our truth and do so without getting snarky or outright mean or demeaning (or people-pleasing). Just as you don’t fight fire with fire (so to speak, since wildfires are sometimes fought with fire to contain them), ideally, you don’t address unpleasant behavior with more unpleasant behavior, as tempting to the ego as that might be. And if your truth is met with hostility, you can walk away (not stomp away), whether that’s until a better time to talk once both sides have calmed down enough so you can attempt better communication, or forever.

The rest of the time, check your thoughts and see how they’re running in your mind. It’s understandable, being the humans with egos that we are, that we’ll have thoughts come up about others or matters that irk us (trying to eliminate such thoughts completely is nearly impossible and may lead to self-judgment; choosing to shift into better thoughts is doable and a worthy practice). Sometimes those negative or judgmental thoughts are needed as part of the process used to gain greater understanding of or clarity about the dynamics involved and to figure out what we need to do or say. And sometimes we do need to talk to another about this so we (perhaps, finally) feel heard.

But we will benefit if we also look at ourselves in this process. Are we taking care of ourselves, and doing so with integrity? Are we communicating with integrity? What do we demonstrate or teach others by our own examples? How can we re-program ourselves to be better and healthier at the inner level if we practice old programs of complaining and blaming, and any of the behaviors listed, other than assertiveness, which is the only way to be authentic?

Deborah Tannen said, “Each person’s life is lived as a series of conversations.” We can begin to pay attention when we speak, as to whether our words come from the ego or from the heart. We can choose which one of those two we wish to give the greater voice to in our inner and outer experiences. We can think and share better thoughts about others while they’re still alive, or at least send them a silent blessing to find peace and joy within themselves, rather than entertain and feed the ego with negative thoughts about them. It’s a good practice, one you’ll appreciate.

Practice makes progress.

Scalp Psoriasis, Scalp Eczema, Ringworm and Fungi Diseases – Why you Must address them ASAP

When it comes to understanding diseases of the scalp, a number of possibilities exist. Some of these diseases, or infections, are common and some are rare. But different scalp diseases will produce different results. For instance, some scalp diseases create extreme irritation while others can make a person’s hair fall out. However, there are two diseases that produces both of these unbearable symptoms and they are known to be Scalp Psoriasis and Scalp Eczema.

Scalp psoriasis is a skin disease that is commonly seen on the scalp, but it can also affect various parts of the body. The resulting symptoms of a Scalp Psoriasis related disease includes extreme itching, burning feeling, sensation, and redness on the affected area.

Experts believe that scalp psoriasis is caused by stress, toxemia, allergic reactions to some medications, and certain infections. If not treated, hair loss is likely but Psoriasis can be treated relatively easily. If the condition doesn’t advance past its early stages, the disease can be non-contagious. However, if the person who suffers from the disease constantly scratches the affected area, this will most likely lead to the development of more serious infections that will be difficult to eliminate.

On the other hand, Scalp Eczema/Ringworm/Fungi is scalp disease that is very similar to Psoriasis.  It is an inflammatory skin condition. Like Psoriasis, it causes a breakout of irritation, scaly skin, and sometimes morphs into oozing sores on the scalp. While there are many shared characteristics between Scalp Psoriasis and Scalp Eczema, these two diseases must be treated with equal aggression and quickness. One is not less serious than the other and if you suffer from either of them, immediate action is a MUST.

In the case of psoriasis, the disease can be very mild, with slight, fine scaling. It can also be very severe with thick, crusted plaques covering the entire scalp. Scalp Psoriasis, if not addressed quickly, can extend beyond the hairline onto the forehead, the back of the neck and around the ears.  You don’t want that!

Again, if both of these diseases are not treated with immediate attention, hair loss or scarring of the scalp will occur but with the proper treatment and with rigid adherence to specific remedial instructions, the diseases can be permanently eradicated.

Using the following medicines, in a combined fashion, often puts a permanent stop to the diseases:

1. Homeopathic Medicines
2. Germicidal Antibiotic Capsules (must be prescribed)
3. Hydrating Cleanser (must also be prescribed)

The trick here is to attack with full force so that scalp diseases can not recuperate and flare up even harder at a later point.

Condo Flood Disaster (Part 2)

Here is the second part of the flood disaster I outlined in previous article. This part will focus more on the remediation process that had to take place. It was a timely process, and the family was definitely put through a lot as well. In the end though they rolled through great and were able to happily move back into their homes.

As I proceeded with getting the home owners moved into a hotel, I discovered that returning all five condos back to normal status would be a battle that was going to be more difficult than any other challenge I had experienced before. The interesting issue from a cosmetic stand point was that the hardwoods installed were floating hardwoods, which means the hardwoods are a tongue and grove application over a foam moisture barrier. Water is the worst for this type of installation because the water travels underneath the hardwoods and traps moisture into the concrete slab. The only way to fully dry the hardwoods is to remove and replace, unfortunately in this situation the hardwoods were discontinued so there was no way to remove the damaged sections only, all hardwoods had to be removed. Once I had all of the hardwoods and carpet removed I set up, I moved all furniture into storage units and then set up dehumidifiers as well as fans to assist with the drying.

One would think that with the condos essentially vacant at this point, the repairs would be easy; However, this was not the case. At any point, when I had water intrusion, no matter how large or small, I would also hire an environmental consultant to scan the damage with a thermal imaging camera as well as an electronic moisture reader. The thermal imaging camera allowed me to see the amount of the water that was trapped in the walls by the insulation. A thermal imaging camera detects any moisture in a "hot / cold" pattern. It gives you an insight as to where water is "hiding". If water is trapped between walls you must remove it otherwise you run the risk of mold growth. Mold will only stop growing if you remove its life source, water. In this situation the water had been absorbed into the insulation behind the sheetrock and was lacking any air flow to help dry out. In each condo I had to remove two feet of sheetrock on all exposed walls. On the exterior walls this meant having only a piece of sheathing to protect the interior of the condo, due to the fact that the stucco was removed on the outside.

Removal of sheetrock produces an immense amount of dust, all of which required the protection and shutting down the HVAC system in each condo. To fully understand the overview, I had five condos with exposure to the summer heat, no flooring, and no sheetrock up to two feet around 80% of the condo. Typically, the repair within itself would be manageable at this point as all moisture impact material was removed and the fans and dehumidifiers are in place to dry out the wood framing members within the condo. However, the summertime beach rain showers kept coming. The endless circle continued for two weeks. Waterproofing application could not be completed on the exterior of the building due to the rain, this in turn allowed water to re-enter the condos. For two weeks I had developed a routine of entering into the condos each day to reposition fans, gather moisture readings, spraying and wiping down any new growth with Simple Green, and over all emotional containment from the affected homeowners.

Finally, the weather cooperated and waterproofing was applied to the exterior of the building. Once the condos were safe from any water intrusion it was time to focus on a complete "dry out" of the framing members. The goal is always to have a moisture reading of 17 percent or lower. I will not accept anything over this as it puts the area at risk for mold growth once it is closed up. It took two full weeks to get even the smallest areas to dry out, and then I was able to start installing installation and sheetrock. In order to help alleviate any fears about the condo being subject to any air born mold spores I wiped down all the walls with a detergent as well as painted the walls with mildew inhibitor paint. Before any furnishings were moved back into the condo I had a cleaning crew perform a full on deep "new construction" clean, where every surface is wet wiped and disinfected. To promote a positive exit for the homeowners I had the HVAC duct system completely cleaned to remove any dust and mold spores that may have contaminated the system. Given that the homeowners were out of their condos for roughly one and a half months, and during that time they were able to see the damage that was taking place I felt it was best for the company's reputation to proceed with a mold air sample. I was confident that the results would provide relief to the owners as they would eventually be able to enter into their homes and feel safe again. I subsequently followed two major rain storms with a thermal imagining scan of the condo to ensure that the walls were dry.

While this is one of many incidences that I have experienced, it was one of the more complicated with regards to continuous water intrusion. I have been in condos where every single surface has black growth on it, and I have had to contain and remediate. While situations of full on growth are frustrating they tend to take place because no one is living in the home. Mold must have a food source and in order for growth to get out of hand, the food source of water has to be neglected and not able to dry. In those situations I find that the repairs are easier because no one is currently living with the growth and you can work swiftly and effectively to make the necessary repairs. The remediation of that involve a family or a homeowner that is living with the mold are the most difficult because you have to protect their safety while working swiftly to return their lives back to normal as quickly as possible.

Water damage is not one of those items that can be pushed down the list of "to do's". If not taken care of properly, it can and often will not only drain your bank account, but leave you or a family member in the hospital! I have heard stories from other adjuster's that have deal with a home owner renovating their home. Once a wall was taken out for the renovation, mold that had been growing in a contained environment for 2 years was now open to the family's air source. Think of a mold inspection like going to the doctors, a lot of the times we do not want to. Nobody wants to hear bad news, but you can not fix the problem if you are not aware that a problem exists.

Nail Fungus Topical Treatment: Does it Work?

You might need nail fungus topical treatment. If you are suffering from a nail fungal infection, this may be your best solution. Before you buy just any product though, you have to know a few important facts about topical products for nail fungus.

Nail Problems

Nails are around for a reason. Our fingers and toes need them for protection. Our toes don’t easily get injured or infected because of the nail covering. This does not mean though that nails are forever immune to infections. A small skin cut near the nail or an opening between the nail and nail bed could make you susceptible to infections. Fungal infections in particular could develop.

This is where the problem comes in. When fungus does find its way to your nails, it could be difficult to get rid of it. This is because the protective properties of your nails also partially shield the fungi from treatment.

It can even get worse. Nail fungal infection is definitely unsightly. Covering or hiding the condition however may make it even worse. Covering the infected nail with anything from polish to false nails can promote even more moisture retention. This is actually what fungi love the most and what you should therefore be avoiding.

Topical Treatments

What can a good nail fungus topical treatment do for you? A good topical treatment is supposed to be able to penetrate the nail surface or go under it to work against fungus. Due to the difficulty of penetration though, you may have to wait for a long time before you can see good results. In some cases, the fungal infection may seem like it is no longer there. In reality though, the spores may just be around, lying dormant. Sometimes when you stop treatment, the condition can return.

Natural or Synthetic – You have the option to use natural or synthetic treatments. Both types of anti-fungal treatment have effective brands. Some individuals however may still choose to go with a natural solution. This may partly be because some are not comfortable with using synthetic chemicals for a prolonged period of time. Others also turn to natural treatments when it is obvious that some chemical solutions don’t work.

What Experts Say – Some experts say that topical treatments can only do so much. Some believe that they are only really useful fro mild to moderate cases of nail fungal infection. If you have a severe condition, you may have to take stronger oral medication. There is however no harm in maintaining a natural topical solution since they do not bring about any side effects.

Regular Application

What It Takes – One thing is certain. Whether you choose a synthetic or natural topical solution, patience and diligence is required to make treatment a success. You can’t just conclude that a solution is ineffective if you haven’t been suing it correctly or regularly. Both chemical and natural products should be used as consistently and as regularly as indicated in product instructions. This is the only way to ensure that you are giving your product a chance to work.

Are Non Prescription Glasses Bad For Your Health?

To decide whether non prescription glasses are bad for your health, you first need to consider which definition of “non prescription glasses” you are using. This particular term is used in two different ways. It can mean “fake” or fashion glasses, which do not have corrective lenses; they are similar to normal sunglasses, except they are not shaded. The second definition of “non prescription glasses” means that they are vision-correcting glasses that were acquired without a prescription.

If you are using the first definition, and want to go shopping for fashion glasses that have no corrective properties, then you will be perfectly fine, as they will not damage your eyes at all. After all, people have worn sunglasses for many years without ill effects, and of course sunglasses may also protect your eyes from damaging ultraviolet rays, depending on which ones you buy. The main danger for people who wear non prescription fashion glasses appears when vanity overrides sanity. It is ill-advised to drive at night or in dull conditions wearing dark sunglasses, and although there is no danger to your eyesight from wearing the glasses, you are at increased risk of having an accident due to decreased visibility.

A little care needs to be taken if you are going to wear the corrective type of non prescription glasses. If the wrong strength of lenses is selected, the result can be eyestrain and associated headaches, and over a period of time this can cause damage to the eyes.

If you suffer from presbyopia – a condition involving the deterioration of eyesight due to aging – you will be more likely to benefit from cheaper non prescription reading glasses. However, it is still important to go to a reputable store, such as a pharmacy, where you will be able to try a wide selection of glasses of differing strengths. Once you have found the optimal strength of lenses, you will be able to pick out a pair in a style of your choosing.

For people younger than 40 years old, and particularly in cases where blurred vision develops rapidly, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as headaches, it is vitally important to see an optician or optometrist in the first instance. There are well documented cases where people have developed vision problems, to find that the underlying cause was a more serious health condition. Eye specialists are trained to spot these problems – though in the vast majority of cases, the cause of the vision defect will be normal and benign.

Some of the possible health conditions that have been noted to affect vision include diabetes, where rapidly changing blood sugar levels can affect the quantity of fluid in the eyes, causing swelling which results in distortion of vision. Another, potentially fatal, condition is extreme hypertension which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Such an underlying problem may be spotted by an optometrist because it can lead to swelling of the optic disk. Even brain tumors have been identified by eye specialists during examinations for the cause of blurred or double vision.

So to answer the question whether non prescription glasses are bad for your health, in general they are not. If you are healthy and are positive you do not have any underlying medical conditions, they will be perfectly fine. However, all cases where there is a sudden change in your eyesight should be investigated by an expert to rule out anything more serious than a vision defect. In general, once you have been prescribed your first pair of corrective glasses, usually fairly early in life for shortsightedness, it is recommended that you see an optician for a retest every two years. If you are over 40 years old, though, and your sight has slowly deteriorated over a long period, then non prescription glasses will be fine, though there is no reason to avoid seeing a specialist if you are concerned about any other accompanying symptoms.

What Leaves You Cold And Makes Others Hot?

You know straight off the mark most women I speak with say without a second thought swallowing fluid during oral sex with their partner. It leaves them cold. Then there is the gagging. Yet like anything communication is the key. You can not expect your partner to be so tuned in to you during such a pleasurable act that they remember to have your best interest registering on their dial.

Seriously most men never intend to put you off, or choke you, so let them know if he thrusts too much, it makes you gag. Mostly a little thrusting is OK, but being over ambitious isn’t. Also there are clever pointers that lessen the gagging. Try using your mouth and tongue more on the area just on the underside of the head of the penis. Very easy if your partner is lying on his back and you are on top. Unless he is looking, he probably won’t know. Always use your hands to slide up and down the shaft of the penis at the same time. It is also smart to let any saliva dribble down a lovers penis as it helps with lubrication. Flicking, licking, sucking makes it a hot experience for your lover. Talking about hot and cold – try sucking on ice cubes or drinking hot chocolate before giving oral sex.

There are women who receive oral sex and know it is hot. For others it leaves them cold. But you know whatever it is that rocks your boat; as long as it FEELS good, go for it. Getting right into oral sex, some women start bucking with pleasure and can almost knock their partner’s teeth up into the eye sockets. So guys, wrap those arms right around those thighs so that you can control what is happening. Grinding your way into your lover’s mouth may mean feeling a few sharp edges, yet as blissful sensations carry one into another realm you may not really notice.

Another hot and cold topic – anal sensations. This is often repulsive for some, then again with the anus having as many if not more nerve endings as the clitoris, then maybe this view needs to be revisited. Anal play can be enjoyable. Whether using a finger, a pleasure object or a penis, lots of lubricant is a must. Some men enjoy having their anus massaged, whilst other sexual activity is taking place at the same time. If your finger is inserted and you press their prostate gland, chances are they will experience a mind blowing orgasm. Females may like their anus stimulated whilst receiving oral sex. The finger does not have to be too far up, usually just past the sphincter muscle does it. The key issue is to be gentle and slow, especially with penetration. The resulting feelings can be very intense and pleasurable.

Foreplay – is hot! What leaves a women cold is some stud trying to ram his penis into a vagina that has not had a chance to become oiled and lubed either naturally or with a bit of help. There is nothing wrong with a rampant quickie from time to time, but even then it helps when both parties to be hot and ready. The occasions where a quick flick is supposed to have a female ready to receive penetration are indeed chilling. It is best when the caressing continues until the female initiates the entering into the vagina. Patience is always more likely to pay off.

It is probably dangerous to generalise about how any of us experience sex. We are all different and bring different perspectives into the equation. Making assumptions and generalisations only ever describe how it is for some of us.

Some like it hot and some like it cold. Each to their own.

How to Treat Pms (premenstrual Syndrome) With Lybrel

For many women who suffer from PMS, the standard treatments simply don’t work. Their doctors have prescribed pain relievers for cramps, diuretics for bloating, and anti-anxiety drugs for the emotional symptoms of PMS. Some women have even been prescribed birth control pills to help get their hormonal fluctuations under control.

But for a certain percentage, there is no relief from PMS. Each menstrual cycle signals three to 10 days of physical and psychological symptoms that disrupt their normal routine, or worse.
PMS Symptoms

As a women with PMS, you may experience some or all of the following:

* mood swings, irritability, depression
* bloating
* tender breasts
* fatigue
* food cravings
* insomnia
* joint / muscle pain

Women who experience very severe symptoms may have a disabling form of PMS called PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). The symptoms of PMDD are so disruptive they can often cause major, debilitating changes in a woman’s life.

PMDD Symptoms

* severe depression and a sense of hopelessness
* anger
* low self esteem
* difficulty concentrating
* irritability

Help for PMS and PMDD

If you’ve tried all the PMS treatment options out there, such as exercising, changing your diet, or taking anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen and nothing has worked, there’s a new treatment available for women who suffer from PMS or PMDD… a birth control pill that gets rid of PMS by getting rid of your period.

The Newest Treatment for PMS: Lybrel

Lybrel is the first and only birth control pill that was designed to eliminate menstrual periods indefinitely.

Lybrel is a low-dose birth control pill that you take continuously, 365 days a year. As soon as one pack is done, you start another, taking one Lybrel pill at the same time each day. There is no placebo pill in the package — each Lybrel tablet contains an active hormone dose.

Lybrel not only provides 99% birth control effectiveness (the same as other birth control pills) but also helps women avoid painful periods, heavy flow, PMS and PMDD. Most women on Lybrel found their periods diminished to breakthrough bleeding or spotting, and then ceased completely, usually within 6-12 months.

Lybrel can also be used to prevent menstruation for convenience factors such as special events like weddings, honeymoons, proms and and other times when a woman would like to avoid having a period.
