How to Manage Your Over Eating

It’s easy to eat more than we should. Some of it is the idea that more is better. A bigger meal for less money is such a good deal, how can you skip it? Whether it’s a super-sized meal or a carefully worded nutrition label, we’re all ready for a bargain.

Unfortunately, this way of thinking is what causes us to have such a massive waist line. It’s also difficult to get over that waist line once it’s there. It is quite a daunting task. I know. I’m still working on that particular task, so I know it can be done. All you need is a little information and a well working will power.

Eating Frequency: We were raised to believe that we need three square meals a day. Maybe an afternoon or bedtime snack was added, just to keep you going until dinner. Actually, the snack idea isn’t a bad one. Three huge meals, on the other hand, can be.

It is best to eat about six times a day. You can go meal, snack, meal snack or simply have six small meals. This will help keep your blood sugar levels consistent and can go a long way to preventing attacking a meal with the zest of the starving.

Does this Light make me Look Fat? Lighting, while most people don’t consider it at all, is critical to controlling how much we eat and what that food is like calorie wise. Believe it or not, that nice, romantic candlelight dinner is likely to cause you to eat more and the food will be higher in calories.

How much do you Want those Fries? This is an important question. When I first started on this journey, there were foods I ate on automatic pilot. The burger came with fries, so I ate them. Then I looked at the calorie count and realized that I don’t like fries enough to spend five hundred calories on them. Look at what you eat and see if there is something you can cut out that you won’t miss.

Plate Sized Dilemma: We have an unconscious urge to avoid blank spots on our plate. That may be part of why restaurants serve so much food on one plate. If your plate is more than ten inches in diameter, you are likely to overeat, simply to avoid the blank spots. If you don’t do that and still use the larger plates, believe me, you’re likely to feel unsatisfied after finishing your meal.

Portion Control: The most important aspect of getting back to a healthy weight and staying there. One of my problems stemmed from childhood. We lived on a farm, and there was a lot of work to do. If I asked for seconds at dinner, it was no problem because we burned a lot of calories just doing daily things.

Now, while I am working out, the rest of the time I’m a mouse potato. Seconds would definitely constitute overeating, even if I love the food and want more. This is where self control comes in.

What Actually Constitutes a Serving? This can be a tricky issue for a lot of reasons. A twelve ounce steak is actually about enough to feed three people. A serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards. Another problem comes with nutrition labels. If you read the label of a 20 oz regular soda, it says it’s for one serving. However, there are two and a half in the bottle. It is easy to assume it’s a single serving, because that’s how we drink it…that can really mess up your calorie tally.

Overeating is a problem, but it doesn’t have to be. With the above tips, it is possible to tame the monster.

This Fantasy Baseball Post Will Make You a Man

We're about to separate the men from the boys, fantasy baseball style.

As we approach the 25% mark in fantasy baseball leagues, it's important to assess your team so you can do what you need to do to take home the gold.

But what is a reasonable point deficit? At this point in the season, can you come back from being 10 points down? 20 points? 30 points? (Listen, if you are more than 30 points down, just close the lid on your laptop, cause you're dunzo.)

Below are the break break downs for one of the leagues I play in, a 15 team 7×7, which means there are tons of points in play:

1. G-Brett's '85 Retros, 142

2. Marco Scrot-aros 141

3. San Diego Phishsanwiches, 141

4. Charlotte Chew Chews, 138

5. Elma Bears, 114

6. Bash Brothers, 112

7. bases clearing bunt, 111

8. Vandelay Industries, 110.5

9. Knocked Balls, 109

10. A1Swift Lowry, 109

11. Mediocre All-Stars, 109

12. Aye Dios Mio, 105.5

13. Base-ah-ball Been-uh-good, 89

14. Williamson Wolverines, 79

15. Phillies Bro Code, 68.5

I'm going to argu that only the top 4 teams are playing for 1st place. Teams 5-11 are playing for 2nd place (I'll explain later). Team 12 is playing for, at most, 5th place. And teams 13-15 will be battling to see who stays out of the cellar.

I realize that if you find your team in a similar position to those in positions 5-12 you are angry at me, because you still have first place on your mind. That's good (and I'm OK with controversial posts). Everyone responds a fighter. But there is no sense pressing on, fueled by the hopes and dreams of unicorns.

Let reality sink in. I will systematically vanquish your dreams with my sword of Logic, Fact, and Sheer Obviousness (Dexterity +3).

There is at minimum 24 points (138 minus 114) that separate the top tier teams from the second tier teams. While 24 points is absolutely a deficit than can be over come, those 2nd tier teams do not have a realistic chance at 1st place. I'll explain.

The beauty of Roto is that there are lots of things in play, and they all must be taken together.

One of the 2nd tier (5th-11th place) teams will absolutely make a run. Probably two of them will. This means that those teams will be jockeying back and forth for points. The fantasy lords giveth, and they taketh away.

Likewise, at least one team in the top tier will make a run. Last year our winner finished with 170 points, meaning there is still room for the front runners to pull away. The rich get richer, as they say.

Not only do you need to make a strong run, but the top tier teams need to tank, and fall back toward you. See # 2 above. This is almost entirely out of your hands. This also can not be overstated.

We're assuming that those 2nd tier teams are underperforming, and that the best is yet to come. It could very well be that around 110 points is a little over their head and that they'll collapse soon enough.

Some of you are reading this thinking, "So you're saying there's a chance." To make rash moves to achieve a goal that you really have little mathematical chance of obtaining is dumb. To do it at the expense of future seasons is dumber. (A decision to pursue a longshot in a keeper league can cripple your roster for years to come.)

Maybe some things break right for you. Maybe a heck of a lot of things break right for you!

But a 2nd tier team needs to get and stay hot for the rest of the season. They need for the other 2nd tier teams to remain luke warm, at best. They need the top tier teams to tank, all of them. We have not even mentioned health of your team.

These are too many variables that are out of your control. A hopeful, yet reasonable, outlet would be that the league would indeed have a couple teams plummet, while having one team break away from the pack of mediocrity to land in 2nd place. A first place finish is probably an unreasonable exit.

The reason I said that this post would make you a man is that that it gives us all an opportunity to man up, face facts, yet still make some moves that will shoot you up the standings.

Fantasy baseball is a marathon, not a sprint, so there is still ample opportunity to make the kind of run that makes the ladies swoon, even if it is a million to one shot at first place. Jumping from 12th to 6th is still admirable. A battle for 4th can be epic. I remember that last year we had a great scrap between 3 guys, fighting to stay out of the cellar. There can be some epic games inside the game that makes Roto-style fantasy baseball so awesome.

So man up. Here are some things you can do:

Target a competitor. Put a bull's-eye on his team, and make a run to leap frog him. Make a friend a frenemy. One year after I won the title another owner posted a comment on the message boards that my win was "nothing more than luck." Oh, it was on. I made it a goal that year after year, his was the team that was going down.

Take one owner at a time. Determine how many owners are between you and where you want to be. Make adjustments to incrementally improve your team, allowing you to climb past them one at a time. This keeps you focused on a task, and gives you a sense of steady achievement that is defined and achievable.

Be devious. Play the spoiler. Do not check out on the season; Instead, tactically make trades with teams that can hurt your competitors. You can help yourself, to a limited amount, by helping the teams that have the best chance of taking points away from your closest competitors.

Build a team to root for. This is doubly important in keeper leagues. Set a solid goal for progress, resign yourself that top tier is out of the question, and work to build a roster of guys you'd enjoy rooting for in the years ahead. Build a team of solid keepers that you'll enjoy rooting for next season.

Fight 'til the end. A man goes down swinging. You owe it to your league mates to keep competitiveness.

Go for broke! You're a dangerous man, darn it! Ignore all my advice, throw caution to the wind, toss out facts, go balls out, and make a play for first, despite the indications the rest of us know as "reality." What the heck, right? It's fake baseball and you are the one who absolutely has to live with your choices.

I'm out of words for this post and I imagine you are already mad at me for shattering your hopes of first place this season, so I'm going to run. Check out "How to finish like a champ when you drafted like a chump" for a nuts and bolts, step-by-step look at how to determine which categories are the ones you need to target to make a run.

Racism and The Hunger Games

Plenty of times in films – such as Thor – the issue of race causes some people to get up in arms on one side of some supposed fence or another. This has seemed to especially plague The Hunger Games and now Catching Fire, more so than pretty much any other movie that comes to mind.

When Jennifer Lawrence was announced as Katniss, she drew criticism for being an older blonde white girl with curves instead of being a scrawny olive-skinned 16-year-old with black hair. Makeup and movie magic of course transformed her into a character closer to what is described in the books but the question still remained, why couldn’t they have just cast someone who had those characteristics to begin with?

When Amandla Stenberg (and to a lesser degree, Dayo Okeniyi) were revealed as Rue and Thresh there was a well publicized backlash against them being black. The issue came up once again when the film was released as those who didn’t follow the casting saw the characters for the first time. Despite being two of the most specifically described characters in the book as having very dark skin, there were complaints ranging from surprise to claiming that Rue not being “an innocent blonde white girl” ruined the movie.

The casting of Lenny Kravitz as the beloved Cinna was, I think, a surprise overall – he just wasn’t someone most people had imagined in the part. Once again, the fact that he has black skin seemed to upset some people – not that he was a left field casting choice or that he had almost zero acting experience despite the fact that Gary Ross specifically sought him out because he fulfilled the vision he had for the character. Cinna’s physical description is very ambiguous (as are many of the characters) in the book, with skin being a little darker than Katniss’s being about as specific as it got. That could really mean he spent a lot of time in the tanning salon (he was a stylist after all) or was middle eastern, or mixed race, or really, just about anything but pale. It seemed though, once again, that many people assumed he was white and some were all kinds of distraught at the thought of Cinna being anything but.

Now, as we get into the casting of the sequel, Catching Fire, the racial fires are flaring once again. Particularly as fans discuss who should play Finnick. Darker skinned Jesse Williams has come out as a fan favorite (despite having never heard of the character before he heard about the fans who wanted him in the part) and immediately there are those who say he in no way fits the description of being “extremely handsome, tall, muscular, and athletic, with tan skin, bronze-colored hair, and incredible sea-green eyes.” Sometimes it’s the fact that he’s not white that gets cited as the reason, other times he’s just not handsome enough in the eyes of a particular fan. Once again, “tan skin,” and “bronze-colored hair” are somewhat ambiguous terms – Suzanne Collins seems to like to leave much up the readers’ imagination.

What is it about these characters that seems to bring out all sorts of racist comments from people? Here’s what I think – Suzanne Collins has crafted characters that people care about. They care about them a lot. And as you read a story, you form a picture of them in your head and that picture becomes that character. Especially if they are described in more ambiguous terms, it’s only logical that picture will more often than not be someone who looks like you – whether you are white, black, Native American, Chinese, Mexican, or bright purple with six-foot wings.

When that character comes to life in a movie, there is a good chance they won’t perfectly fit the vision in your head. They may be taller, older, or a completely different race either because that’s what the director saw in their head or because the actor or actress is just a perfect fit with their personality and talent, regardless of if they look quite like what people might expect or not.

I’ll admit – I pictured Finnick, as well as most other characters as white. It’s something that happens automatically, I think, because of my race and the fact that I grew up in an area that was not terribly diverse. As long as an actor captures the essence of the character, I couldn’t care less what the color of their skin is. In Finnick’s case, as long as his skin looks like someone who spent his life on the shore, fishing, it doesn’t really matter that means he’s got a surfer dude’s golden tan, a native Hawaiian’s darker skin, Jesse William’s racial background, or something else.

It is important to remember that just like you have a set-in-stone picture of that character in your head, so does everyone else, and it probably doesn’t match up with what yours looks like, but it’s just as right. Unless you try to tell Suzanne Collins that Rue is not actually black, despite what she wrote. Then you are wrong.

Mushrooms That Can Invade the Sinus Passages

Lots of people love mushrooms, especially sauteed with a nice steak. But did you know that there are certain kinds of mushrooms that can infect the sinus passages?

The mushrooms we’re talking about here aren’t the kind used for food, but they belong to the species known as fungi, including certain types of molds. Fungi are organisms that resemble plants, but unlike genuine plants can’t produce their own food through the process of photosynthesis. Usually these types of fungi live in our warm, moist nasal passages without causing any problems. However, when a body’s resistance is low, these fungi can become harmful.

Fungi usually feed on dead organic matter, which is why food mushrooms are found living at the roots of trees and in the carpet of leaves composting on a forest floor. Fungi like dark, warm, wet places, just like the insides of our noses. Sometimes fungi can feed on other living organizations, such as the mucus membranes inside nasal and sinus passages. When that happens, these membranes become inflamed and can become infected.

Molds are a kind of microscopic fungi related to mushrooms. To reproduce themselves, they release spores that can sail through the air like pollen. Fungi of this type can be found throughout the year in many regions. They’re affected by the weather – when’s warm and rainy, or even warm and humid, you can expect an increase in the growth of molds. That’s one of the reasons why it can be essential to control the humidity in a home, to reduce the likelihood of mold growing in the walls, especially on building materials that contain a lot of cellulose (once again, that’s a wood-derived product of the kind that outdoor fungi are so fond of eating).

Common types of mold found indoors include Aspergillus and its subspecies (A. Flavus, A. Versicolor); Cladosporium; Penicillium; Alternaria and the toxic “Black Mold, ” Stachybotrys atra (S. Atra). Any of these indoor molds can be the microscopic mushrooms that infect sinuses. Sometimes they produce effects that are quite toxic to the human body. The best way to avoid such an infection is by working to prevent their growth in the home, and through good health habits, especially frequent hand washing and other forms of hygiene.

If you do become infected, see your doctor immediately. And if you suspect fungi may have invaded your home, contact a building specialist to conduct tests. It’s better to be safe than suffer with a fungal infection.

2 Side Effects of Sleep Deprivation

I'm sure that you heard your parents say to you that it's important to get a good night's sleep. This is very true as a good night's sleep has many benefits that include having more energy, better concentration and positive moods. However a lack of sleep can have many downsides that can also affect you mentally and physically.

In the fast paced world that we live into day many people think that sleep gets in the way of getting things done. When you look at the fact most people spend a third of their lives sleep there there may be a good argument for this. However, there is a reason why we sleep so much. Sleep is an important part in helping to repair and rejuvenate the mind and body. A lack of sleep affects us in many ways and in this article I will focus on two negative aspects and these include the following:

Premature aging

There are many people that scorn sleep that think it is a waste of time and that you get plenty of sleep when you are dead. The kinds of people who have this belief are commonly very ambitious people who sleep only a few hours a day. However, medical research has found that people who live this kind of lifestyle will age faster compared to people who have the habit of getting a good night sleep. As pointed out the body needs time to repair and rejuvenate the brain and our body cells. A lack of sleep hinders the body's growth hormones to repair our cells and in terms of our skin this results in an increase in wrinkles. Sufficient sleep also plays an important role in strengthening our immune system which protects the body from diseases, infections and free radicals that damage our skin cells.

Moods & Emotions

Many health experts believe that a lack of sleep is the cause of many stress related physical and emotional diseases and illnesses. Research studies have discovered a strong link between deprived sleep and depression. This is believed because certain activities that are controlled by our brains include the functions of making decisions and how we control our emotions. Therefore, it is considered that a good night's sleep can help our emotional functions to perform more effectively during the day.

As you can see the benefits of getting enough sleep will help you physically and mentally. If you want to look and feel great then, get into the habit of a having a good night's sleep.

Preventative Healthcare: Employee Wellness & Corporate Responsibility

Our current model of healthcare is sick care, and sadly, employers are drowning by following this same path. Health care dollars are usurped from reactive, episodic acute care model, and of course the long term needs and dollars of chronic care. We can find different dollar values thrown around, depending on which of the thousands of costs are being tallied, but suffice it to say chronic care costs, between care and lost productivity hundreds of billions yearly.

The massive opportunity for the health of society and our economy: Preventive healthcare

Leading healthier lives (which is a sweeping statement) and stopping the onset of illness is the holy grail of healthcare transformation and sustainability. It is equally the ultimate investment companies can make – we all agree we are only as strong, resilient and energized as our people. In terms of corporate health, the model of preventive care can be further defined for implementation and precision:

Proactive care solutions: Providing solid, science based knowledge of healthier living, helping employees with implementation, adherence, provides a health centric motivating environment to respect the endless value of health. A proactive approach also ensures that preventive action is taken to intervene well before the onset of symptoms, far before illness. Proactive health should not be confused with diagnostics, which are a part of proactive health, but certainly not the only aspect of proactive process.

Predictive care solutions leverage cutting-edge health technologies and sophisticated gathering of data to not only stratify risk, but even predict risk and intervene even further upstream. This can be done through effective health risk assessments (HRA), metrics and reporting from the proactive tools, predictive care solutions are out there and are a lost opportunity for health when not implemented. With the increased collection of personal health and lifestyle data and improved analytics, we can generate accurate insights earlier. This allows us to anticipate issues, pinpointing where behavioural intervention is needed and provide actions to take before risk factors even arise.

NCD: Non-infectious and non-transmissible diseases that may be caused by genetic or behavioral factors and generally have a slow progression (could have been incubating for years in which hopefully identified and prevented) and long duration. These include cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. According to the CDC, 80% of chronic illness is lifestyle, behavioral, however, people need to be made aware of what many of these behaviors and exposures are.

According to a study released in 2011 by the World Economic Forum, Harvard School of Public Health “The U.S. Government and Global Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Efforts:

  • NCDs are the leading causes of death and disability globally, killing more than three in five people worldwide and responsible for nearly half of the global burden of disease.
  • Among the leading causes of preventable illness and related disability
  • Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes account for about 80% of NCD deaths
  • NCDs are responsible for 3.9 million deaths each year in the Region of the Americas, representing 3⁄4 of all deaths.
  • An estimated 200 million people in the Americas are living with NCDs, which has a tremendous impact on their life, well-being, and ability to work. This, in turn, poses major challenges to the economy, the health system and other sectors of society.
  • If modifiable risk factors (behavioral) were eliminated, 80% of all heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes would be prevented and over 40% of cancer would be prevented.
  • The causes of NCDs and their risk factors are largely determined by the social, physical and economic environment. Thus, combating NCDs requires action on the social determinants in a person’s environment, not just healthcare. Creating healthy environments and making healthy choices available and known are critical.

Just a scary stat: Diabetes and Insulin, our master hormone: $245 Billion, Annually. Diabetes is 90% preventable

Conclusion from World Economic Forum study on Non Communicable Diseases:

“Economic policy-makers are naturally concerned about economic growth. The evidence presented in this report indicates that it would be illogical and irresponsible to care about economic growth and simultaneously ignore NCDs. Interventions in this area will undeniably be costly. But inaction is likely to be far more costly.”

Corporate wellness programs are potentially an affordable, very effective way to reduce the economic, personal and social burden of illness. Shifting to a preventive paradigm requires a holistic and employee-centred approach that involves participation and dedication from employers and employees. Follow the hard science. A number of vague studies are released stating that proactive health and wellness programs do not really impact the corporate bottom line. Where this very narrow mentality falls short… what are they measuring? Do they have an accurate scientific means of data collection as to illness prevented? Were they categorizing all corporate wellness initiatives into one lump? What were the measures of adherence? For these studies to deny the impact of preventative health education and implementation, is to deny greater studies lead by global health researchers and organizations… Where is the corporate responsibility?

Providing health information is a start, but only a start. Corporate responsibility reaches to those groups and individuals that they affect: shareholders, customers, suppliers, employees and their families, communities, financiers, society… and of course their own survival. The impact of health is omnipotent.

Gripped by Fear

It's a familiar feeling for many, if not most, the stomach churning vice like sensation of being gripped by fear.

Why do we find some things really difficult to do such as speaking in public, asking our boss for more money, changing our job or telling our nearest and dearest what our real feelings are?

We do not have to look far to find the answer.

Doing something 'different' takes us into unfamiliar territory; We can not predict how things will turn out and we sense danger ….

When you do something you have rarely or never done before, it may turn out to be a bad choice.

As humans we like to be able to predict the course of any action; It helps us to engineer a successful exit. It is possible to reduce the effect that fear has on your life by understanding how the emotion works and why it is so common and to eliminate that fear by using hypnosis.

Our caveman and woman ancestors lived in an extremely dangerous world. Those who were most anxious and timid were far more likely to survive. The world was full of poisonous insects, snakes, wolves and saber-toothed tigers and our puny forebears were no physical match. The adventurous and the brave usually died. Playing it safe mean living longer so we are considerably descended from those who were cautious, anxious types. Anxiety is our genetic inheritance and for millennia fear has been an emotion absolutely essential for our very survival.

It made perfect sense not to 'boldly go' into uncharted waters unless you knew for certain what you might be up against. But in today's world, the same response that had a clear advantage during the Stone Age can keep you from doing something that would really really be quite harmless, even beneficial, because you have an exaggerated fear of the future consequences. It does not have to be this way. I do not know about where you live but there are no saber-toothed tigers these days around where I live.

Deep in our subconscious we all react with behavior patterns which slip into automatic gear when we feel threatened in any way. Often these patterns we have established when we were children and we had no logic or experience to inform us or in very different circumstances to those we are faced with now.

Aerophobia, fear of flying, is a good example. No amount of 'pull yourself together' self talk or lectures on the undoubted fact that 'flying is the safest form of transport' is going to cut any ice with the would-be flyer who just can not cross the tarmac and get on that Plane.

A part of the brain which is running in the background, where you can not hear it and can not easily control it, is especially geared to respond anything which could cause you harm. Your subconscious 'threat detector' always rules, it always wins an argument with your logical conscious mind for the very good reason it is there to protect you, even from yourself.

This is where hypnosis really comes into its own and it is usually more effective than drugs, counseling or any other form of intervention.

In a relaxing hypnotic trance – which is really an advance state of focus – your therapist guides you into informing your subconscious that 'It's OK now' to board that plane, be near that snake or spider, be in a public place or travel in that Lift ——– fill in the blanks. Many of our clients are astounded that problems they have struggled with for years and which they claimed were 'just the way I am' melt away in just a few short sessions.

Stress Management – How to Live on a Shoestring Budget and Still Enjoy Life

If you are living on a shoestring budget then you can agree with me when I say that it can be very stressful trying to make ends meet and have money left over to do some of things that you enjoy. I have identified three things that you can do to stretch your dollar and relieve your financial stress. The three things are 1) Do your own self-maintenance 2) Get a low cost cell phone plan and 3) Discount shopping

#1 Self-maintenance

Make a list of your living expenses and examine which bills are reoccurring bills. I noticed that I was spending a pretty penny on going to the hair salon and the nail shop twice a month. The way that I corrected this issue was by discontinuing my visits to the hair salon; I now wear a low maintenance hair style (a natural). I am saving 100.00 dollars a month just by washing and maintaining my own hair!

The other area that I eliminated was getting my nails done twice a month. I purchased a pedicure set and I now do my own pedicures. I saved 40.00 dollars a month by discontinuing this service. I have not sworn out going to the nail shop or the hair salon completely; I go as a special treat and when my budget permits.

#2 Low Cost Cell Phone Plan

My cell phone plan for unlimited talk minutes was very excessive. I was paying 120.00 a month for this service. Whenever I wanted to change my plan to something more affordable I was faced with having to extend my contract. I am now with a local carrier and I am not bounded to a contract. I get unlimited talk time, text, long distance and web surfing for only 50.00 dollars a month. I saved 70.00 dollars a month!

#3 Discount Shopping

You can save a bunch of money by shopping at the thrift store. There a lot of shabby thrift stores out there but if do your research you can also find some pretty good ones. The thrift stores have clothes that are in great condition for a very affordable price. I still like to shop at the mall and discount stores but when I do , I buy clothes that are on clearance. You can save a whole bunch of money if you buy clothes when they are on clearance.

When you are living on a shoestring budget you have to cut out wasteful spending. I go over my bank statement each month just to see what areas I can adjust in order to save money. Living on a fixed income can be stressful but if you learn to budget and have the discipline and commitment to stick to your budget you will see the rewards and savings in the long run.

Is it Harder to Conceive a Boy Or Girl?

If you’re reading this article, I will assume that you’re wanting to conceive a baby and have a specific gender on your wish list. This article will focus on the variables necessary to conceive a girl or a boy and how to manipulate them using inexpensive, natural methods at home. Although choosing your baby’s sex is possible at an expensive gender selection clinic, my personal experience lies with natural methods.

Differences In The Difficulty Between Conceiving A Boy Or Girl: Statistically speaking, the odds are almost even, giving you an approximate 50/50 chance for either sex, but this doesn’t tell the whole story. Having boys or girls can run in families and there can be a reason for this, which I’ll get to later. However, because of the characteristics of female (X) and male (Y) sperm chromosomes, it can take longer or require more planning to conceive one sex / gender over the other, but it’s never impossible.

Girl (X) Versus Boy (Y) Sperm Chromosome Characteristics: When a couple is trying to conceive, a man’s sperm contains chromosomes that will result in a girl baby (X) or a boy baby (Y). However, there are numerous factors that will influence which chromosome containing sperm will get to the egg and fertilize it first. Boy sperm are faster, but not nearly as hardy as girl sperm. Girl sperm are slower, but can survive for much longer in hostile (acidic) conditions. You can use these factors to your advantage when trying to chose the gender of your baby.

Variables You Can Manipulate To Help You Have A Son Or Daughter: There are really three main variables you can influence / control when trying to conceive a boy or a girl. These are: the time in your ovulation cycle when you attempt to conceive (earlier will favor a girl, as these sperm can survive for longer); the intercourse / sexual positions you use when trying to conceive (closer to the cervix for a boy, further away for a girl); and the vaginal environment / PH that the sperm encounter when attempting to reach the egg (acidic for a girl, alkaline for a boy).

So, Which Sex / Gender Is Hardest To Conceive?: Well, that depends upon the status of the variables mentioned above already in place. If the mom to be is naturally acidic (easy to determine with testing strips) and wants a boy, she’ll first need to alter her PH through specialty douches and / or through the very diligent eating and avoiding specific foods to get in the “boy zone.” Likewise, if she’s naturally alkaline and wants a girl, the same thing is true. This natural inclination to be either acidic or alkaline can be one reason having boys or having girls can run in families. However, this is very possible to rectify so that the cycle stops.

Likewise, if a couple is dead set on a girl, it’s best to try to conceive before you ovulate, which leaves some fertile days on the table until the next month. However, the same is true if you want a boy, as you have to wait longer in the month to begin trying.

As you can see, whether you’re trying to conceive a boy or a girl, all of the variables can be altered to create the scenario that will encourage the daughter or son you want. Depending on your situation, one is not necessarily harder than the other. It just takes a bit of very specific knowledge about your fertility / ovulation cycle and your unique vaginal PH / environment. Soaking in the Rays – Tips to Getting Rid of Sunburn

Sunburns are more than just a painful part of summer. They can damage your skin, cause cancer and otherwise do bodily harm. While not being burned in the first place is the best answer, once you've been burned, you're going to want to get over it as fast as possible.

Cool Shower : Like any burn, getting rid of the heat is the first priority. As long as it's still hot, it's still damaging your skin. You do not want to take a cold shower, that can cause a shock to your body. A lukewarm shower is the best. If you can, stay in it until the burn is totally cooled. In areas with water restrictions that might not be possible.

Vinegar Water : This is another way to help cool the burn. Mix one part vinegar to four parts cool water. As with the shower, do not use cold. Dip a soft cloth into the water, wring it out and lay it on the burn. This will have to be repeated many times and on all of the burn. The vinegar treatment is ideal if the person burnt can not stand for very long or as indicated above, there are water restrictions.

Aloe Vera : This gel is great for burns of all sorts. It's best to buy it with the outer part removed, as it can cause pain. The skin has cactus like needles which are not helpful. Because the gel is mainly water, it's fairly safe to use even if the heat is not totally gone.

Lidocaine : This provides very short term relief from the pain. It is applied directly to the burn, often in either aloe gel or in a spray bottle. Do not use it more often than the instructions say.

On the Use of Butter

Whatever you do, do not put butter or any other oil based product on a burn that has not been cooled. It will seal the heat in and make the burn much worse. I know this is a remedy passed down from mother to daughter for centuries, but it is not a good idea. I've seen what happens when you do it, and it is not pretty.

When you Need Help : Some sunburns can be so bad you need medical help. If the burn covers more than 20% of the body, it's on a very young child or other symptoms accompaniment it, a the very least call your doctor. If there is nausea, vomiting, headache or other symptoms of heat sickness, call 911. They will give you instructions on what to do until help arrives.

10 Different Ways to Wake Yourself Up Sans Coffee

10 Different Ways to Wake Yourself Up Sans Coffee

I know, it sounds weird to have an article like this coming from a company that sells coffee but you know, even if you do not like coffee, you still deserve some help. We might judge you, but we’ll still help you out.

Now, indeed, coffee is wonderful and great; mire than half of the adults in the country drink the stuff each day to get going. While there have been health benefits of the habit such as reducing risk of diabetes, depression, cancers, etc. some people just do not like coffee. For those people, here are some ways they can wake up in the AM without a cup of java.

Stretches. This is more than doing some minor stretching in bed, this is real stretching. It is on the verge of yoga but not quite that serious. One stretch you can do is the “Fish Pose”; for this, simply lie on your back and place your hands under your hips. Lift your chest to the sky, above your shoulders and slowly stretch your head backwards.

Eat an apple. Yes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, allegedly, but it also keeps the yawns away. Apples are a nice, energizing fruit and a tasty way to jump start your day. Apples have natural sugars and carbs that maintain good blood sugar. You can also have bananas, oranges, and other fruits.

Workout. This one can be tougher if you have never been an AM workout person. I, for one, am not an AM workout person. You can run or actually lift weights to get those endorphins and energy juices flowing. You can do something light like a quick, 10-minute body weight workout.

Fresh air and sun. If an AM workout is not your thing, then consider a morning walk. Getting that cool morning air and sunlight really helps the senses get going. A morning constitution can help relieve stress and fatigue.

A cold shower. Yeah, it sounds a bit torturous but it really can help. If this is too intimidating, then consider splashing some cold water on your face, it will do the same thing but maybe not quite as effective.

Drink cold water. The body has a hard time using cold water so it has to heat it up before it can use it, this means jump starting your metabolism. This will be your blood flowing.

Having some tea. Many teas have caffeine and are much subtler in flavor than their coffee friend. Green tea and black tea are both excellent sources of caffeine.

Calling your mother! Yeah, us mothers do like to talk to our grown kids. Call us, will ya?

Massage yourself. Nothing weird here, just a simple massage such as stimulating the five pressure points: top of the head, between your thumb & index finger, right below the knee cap, the ball of your foot, and base of the neck.

Listen to music. Put on your favorite jams and get yourself going!

Like the list? So do we. If you want to try the tea route, then shop Coffeevines and select your favorite tea! We have green, black, herbal, and much more.

Using Effects In Garageband

While GarageBand may be marketed as an entry-level program, it provides a surprising number of great sounding effects. In addition to sounding great, these effects are also very easy to work with. Let’s look at the different ways that effects can be used in your GarageBand songs.

Software Instruments

Software instruments come pre-loaded with four effects. Let’s look at them individually:

  • Compressor: Technically, compression is a form of dynamics processing that allows you to “squeeze” the dynamic range of a signal. In real-world terms, this means that the difference between the loudest part of a signal and the softest part is decreased. In effect, the soft parts of a sound get a little louder and the loud parts get a little softer. This allows the signal to pop out a little more in the mix. Compression is used most often on very dynamic signals like drums and vocals.
  • Visual EQ: Short for equalization, EQ allows you to increase or decrease the volume of certain frequency ranges in a sound. As you add tracks to your song you may find that your mix begins to sound “muddy” and undefined. You can combat this by removing unimportant frequencies from each track. As an example, removing some low-mids from a vocal track may help it sparkle a little more.
  • Master Echo: This slider controls how much signal from this track is sent through the Master Echo effect.
  • Master Reverb: This slider controls how much signal from this track is sent through the Master Reverb effect.

Real Instruments

Real instruments come pre-loaded with the same four effects as software instruments, with the addition of one new effect:

  • Noise Gate: The purpose of a noise gate is to keep out or “turn off” any sound below a certain threshold or volume level. A perfect use for a noise gate would be to eliminate pickup noise and hum from a guitar signal. When the guitarist isn’t playing the noise gate is closed, keeping the pickup hum from being heard in the mix, but as soon as the guitarist starts playing the noise gate opens up and the guitar signal is let through.

Guitar Tracks

Guitar tracks deal with effects in a different manner from software and real instruments. Not to disappoint anyone, but I’m going to save this for another article. I wouldn’t be able to do it justice in a few short sentences here.

Master Track

The signals from all of the separate tracks in GarageBand run through the effects on the master track. The master track in GarageBand comes pre-loaded with five effects that are broken into two groups:

Track Effects

The amount of each track that runs through these two effects is controlled by the master sliders on each instrument track.

  • Echo: An echo is a delayed repeat of a sound that usually occurs at a subdivision of the beat, like quarter-notes or eighth-notes.
  • Reverb: Put together enough separate echoes and what you get is reverb. Think of reverb as the ambience of a space. Generally, the bigger the space, the longer the reverb time.

Master Effects

These default to off so you’ll need to turn them on if you want to use them.

  • Visual EQ: Same as with the software and real instruments.
  • Compressor: Ditto
  • Ducker: Used most often in voice-over work, a ducker is designed to automatically reduce the volume of backing tracks while a lead track plays. This isn’t used too often in music.

Just Use The Presets

The effects in GarageBand are all very editable but I would suggest that you start by using the presets. Each effect comes with a very nice set of presets that will work well for about 90% of your needs. If you find yourself needing something that the presets aren’t giving you then I would suggest following these steps:

  • Pick a preset that is close to what you are looking for.
  • Clicking on the graphic on the left side of the effect will bring up the editing parameters for that particular effect.
  • Now start adjusting the effect parameters until you get the sound you want. Don’t be afraid to experiment because you can always go back to the preset if you really mess things up.

Why Some Men Are 100 Times Better in Bed Than Others! (3 Tips to Make it True For You)

Some men are up to 100 times better in bed than others. I know this is a drastic statement but it is true. Only 30% of women have orgasms – and on average they are only 10 seconds long! These expert lovers can give women climaxes for literally hours. An hour is 3600 seconds. Not only can they give them longer climaxes, but more intense, up to 7 different types, and tons of combinations. These women beg, gasp, quiver, convulse, and scream! Check out 3 tips to do this yourself!

1st Tip. The no-touch orgasm.

One expert lover said that the key to his success is that he gives women orgasms even before he touches them. If he can’t do that then he doesn’t continue. He figures that they are not on the same page for some reason and so he waits for another day.

You can give her the no-touch orgasm by making her either re-live a fantasy or create a new that that is so hot that she can start shaking and convulsing without touch.

He does that by asking her very focused questions and then using her answers to create the exact fantasy she wants. Thus he is setting her up for success. He makes it real and NOW. He gives her sexy details as if he is touching her now. She does the rest by internally rubbing herself. This is usually a 30-60 second orgasm that he has given her without even touching her yet.

2nd Tip. Preliminary orgasms.

Then he goes to kissing her, teasing her breasts and giving her breast orgasms. He does that by teasing her globes, then applying a gentle teasing touch around her nipples. When he finally touches her nipple she is almost going nuts with desire.

Then he sucks her nipples harder and harder, faster and faster. He’s like a human vaccuum cleaner.

After getting one or two breast orgasms he goes to her clitoris and starts teasing that. Most women almost jerk off the bed with his first electric, teasing touch on the end. he keeps teasing her until her whole body shudders.

You can do exactly the same things.

3rd Tip. “Lights out” orgasms.

Only then does he go down and tease her g-spot with his index and middle finger. When she starts to shudder, he immediately goes up to her clitoris again and starts to tease her there.

Then, he gets her g-spot orgasm, and the clitoral orgasm is on the way…so he again goes back to her g-spot and coordinates a blended c-spot/g-spot climax.

By this time, he has been pleasing them in bed for hours and they’ve had orgasm after orgasm, with each more intense and varied than the previous. You can do exactly the same thing.

How Turmeric Helped Cure My Prostate Cancer and Turmeric Health Benefits

Turmeric helped save my life. In 2012 I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. As you can imagine being told you have cancer is not a pleasant experience. Fortunately I had just started a 10 week secondment in a remote area of Western Australia when my doctor gave me the news over the phone.

When I say that was fortunate, I mean it gave me and my partner Joy the chance to do lots of research before deciding a course of action. Poor Joy had to experience being on her own for 10 weeks after I told her of the diagnosis during the first week I was away. Not something you want to hear from your partner when you wont see them for 10 weeks.

But as I say it gave us both the chance to think about it without making a knee jerk reaction to the news and heading for surgery or chemotherapy or radiation straight away. Which is what my doctor was hinting at.

Having your prostate removed can cause all kinds of complications to your nerves around your waterworks and that is not something I wanted to experience.

WHAT I DISCOVERED

The research we did brought me to the conclusion that there were better and more natural ways to deal with the situation rather than the conventional way. And they involved no invasive surgery, chemicals or hospitalization.

Joy had heard about a guy named Don Tolman and he was coming to the Gold Coast for a seminar shortly after I was due to get back.

Don is known as the Whole Food Cowboy and his knowledge and insights on the human body blew me away. I learned so much in a very short time from Don.

As a result I changed my diet, did even more exercise, lots of water, sunshine, fresh air and meditation.

Don gave me what I like to call the secret weapon to cure prostate cancer. I would like to share it with you.

THE SECRET WEAPON DIET

Every morning for 90 days have a bowl of oats (porridge) with flaxseeds and a lemon squeezed into it. One teaspoon of wheatgerm oil and then add hot water. I also added a banana to mine. Then eat broccoli for lunch (raw or lightly steamed and pour it with Coconut Oil or Extra virgin Olive Oil. As for drinking my favourite smoothie is banana, blueberries, almond milk and Turmeric. Then morning and night I have what is known as Cabala Juice. That is freshly squeezed carrot x 3, apples x 3 1 x beetroot, 1 by lemon with the skin on if organic and snack on Brazil nuts throughout the day.

They are the main ingredients. You can also have as much fruit and vegetables as you like on top of that, but cut out sugar and any processed foods and dairy apart from organic butter. Thick heavy wholemeal or multi grain bread is also OK.

So that’s what I ate for 90 days. In fact that’s what I still eat and drink most days now. And I often fast either intermittently or for 3 to 7 days.

And the great news is I am cancer free. 100 percent healthy and never felt better.

So I can safely say with my experience the above eating protocol worked wonders for me. Turmeric was a huge part of that so lets find out more about it.

Many experts are calling Turmeric a superfood – well truth is any fruit or vegetable is a super food, even your average apple is a super food… so don’t get carried away when you hear about the latest fad superfood.

Fruit and vegetables are all superfoods!

Firstly, what is Turmeric? It is a herbaceous perennial plant that is actually part of the ginger family…

and its roots look identical to the ginger root except for its bright orange color of turmeric.

Turmeric is also known as Kurkuma and very similar to another plant from India called Boswellia.
