Understanding Ischemic Heart Disease – Risks and Prevention

Ischemic heart disease is defined as decreased blood flow to the heart due to narrowed coronary arteries.  The obstruction results from cholesterol deposits sticking to the artery wall, interrupting  the flow of blood to the heart. The deposits harden causing hardening of the arteries.  This is called atherosclerosis, which is a medical term sometimes interchanged with arteriosclerosis. Both have the same affect, whereby both impede blood flow to the heart.

Arteriosclerosis, or plaque build up, is common factor in Ischemic heart disease. Plaque, a result of high cholesterol and triglycerides levels, builds up in the vessels that feed the heart causing blockage to occur.  This interferes with blood flow to the heart and terminates in heart attack symptoms to occur.  The patient may exhibit signs ranging from shortness of breath to irregular heartbeats, and chest pain.  Sometimes, there are no symptoms due to damage to the nerves that surround the heart due to heart disease.  

As time passes, plaque deposits narrow the arteries causing efficient blood flow, which can also lead to the development of a type of Ischemic heart disease called angina.  Angina Pectoris, or strangling, is chest pain caused by lack of oxygen to the heart due to poor blood supply. This puts the patient at extremely high risk for heart attack and cardiac arrhythmia.

People who are at risk for ischemic heart disease most likely have a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes.  The risks, in most instances, can be alleviated or eliminated altogether by drastic changes in lifestyle such as losing weight and stopping smoking.  While these changes may reduce risks, they do not necessarily cure ischemic heart disease that is already present.  If the person has had a previous heart attack, they have an increased for having another heart attack within 5 years.  Regular visits with your physician to monitor for any changes in the patient’s condition will alert the physician to any potential problems that may crop up and slow down the rate of disease progression.

I guess it is saying the Fishing is hot just before the cold, and there is a lot of truth to that…

Fish are very sensitive to weather changes and the days before a cold front (or any low pressure system) moving into an area can be outstanding for fishing. The fish feel the change in air pressure, they feel the shift in the wind and its effects on the seas and currents, they know… I better eat now, cause in 36 hours to 48 hours food’s gonna be scarce for a few days. We see it every time a front moves through, where’d the bait go? Well the bait moves and goes down they really don’t like the cold or the stormy seas. So when the bait goes down, so does the fishing.

Now let’s take a good look at the timing involved here: In Florida during the winter we normally see 1 (maybe even 2) cold front(s) in a week. The 24 to 36 hours before the front, the winds veer from an easterly/southeasterly to a southerly/southwesterly direction and the barometer begins to fall. These are signals not only to the fishermen, but the fish. Better get your “groceries” today, because the weather is going to the crapper soon.

The Day of the front will normally bring some squally weather and a wind shift with winds veering from the southerly/southwesterly pre-front direction to a westerly/northwesterly; this is when we see the water turn to all different colors of brown. Fishing these days is ill advised; not only will the bite be tough, but safety is an issue too. Just yesterday day (during a front) I read about 4 water rescues. With winds from the Northwest at 25kts and gust above 30kts; this was just plain crazy to even be out there.

The day of and the day after the front usually will give you the slowest bite (and most dangerous seas), but on the third day the fishing seems to turn on and sometimes with a vengeance (especially if another cold front is approaching). By this time the winds have lain down and switch to a northeasterly/easterly direction. There have been some solid tide changes and the water begins to return to normal. Bait returns and so do the fish with an appetite that can be ravenous.

So as with all things… fishing around fronts… Timing is everything

Know Your Muscle Building Exercises – The Chest

Every bodybuilder and weight trainer will have his or her favorite exercises for each body part. That's how it should be – as you progress through the various stages of learning you'll understand what works best for you. It is useful, however, to take stock of your progress every so often and carry out an analysis of where you are and what changes, if any, are needed to move onwards and upwards.
Part of this analysis should include an assessment of the core exercises that make up your bodybuilding training program. In this article we'll look at the chest exercises that have proven their worth to serious bodybuilders for many years. Where appropriate a series of exercises suitable for achieving pre-exhaustion will be presented. All exercises should be performed to failure with one set of six to eight reps.

1. Dumbbell flyes – this exercise provides a useful means of isolating the pectorals and preserving the triceps for the consequent exercise. The exercise should be performed as follows:
– Hold dumbbells directly overhead.
– Lower them to sides with elbows slightly bent, folded back and to the side. Lower no further than level with the torso.
– Use the pectorals to pull the weights back up to the starting position.

2. Incline bench press – you can move straight on to this exercise if you have reached an appropriate level of experience. If you perform this exercise as the second part of a pre-exhaust routine you may have to use lighter weights than normally.
– Take a shoulder width grip.
– Lower the bar to the chest with the elbows pointed to the side.
– Return to the starting position.

“Hey listen, I wanted you to know I’m totally cool with ending things. The more I think about it, the more I realize you’re right. Maybe we can be friends one day. Until then, take care.”

This is the simplest, easiest way to not only let your ex know you’re okay with breaking up, but that you actually agree with what she’s saying.

See, your ex can’t argue here. She can’t fight you. She was probably all prepared for you to come up with 10,000 reasons why you should stay together. Instead, you did the exact opposite.

The genius part about this text is that it aligns you with her own interests. Suddenly, you’re on the same side. You’re allies. You’re buddies! Like it or not, you’re basically in the same boat.

Best of all, your ex will instantly wonder what CHANGED with you. Why are you not fighting for her? What happened since she dumped you? Did you find someone else? Get a better prospect? Or did you really come to the realization that YOU don’t want HER???

The ‘Cutting off all Communication’ Text

This is a good one. Right now your ex is ready to ignore you. She expects a barrage of communication, all from your end, and she’s prepared to completely snub you on each and every attempt.

So instead of doing the mass-communication thing, you tell your ex girlfriend:

“You’re right. It’s probably best that we don’t talk anymore. Best of luck, Jennifer. Maybe one day we can be friends.”

BOOM! Preemptive strike. With just a few short sentences, you shifted the balance of power back in your direction. Suddenly, SHE can’t call YOU. Why? Because you told her not to. You basically told HER that staying apart is what YOU want, instead of the other way around.

Know what people hate most? Being told what to do. Your ex girlfriend will be instantly pissed because you stole her fire. Not talking, not communicating? That was HER line! And here you are, throwing it back in her face. Making her own the breakup in the best possible way: by making her see she stands to actually lose you.

And after being pissed wears off, guess what? Your girlfriend faces a new emotion: FEAR.

Fear of being wrong about breaking things off. Fear that maybe, just maybe, you see something that she doesn’t.

Fear of losing you.

This text tells your girlfriend one quick thing: that you don’t need her. And more than anything else, to feel comfortable in continuing the breakup? Your ex girlfriend needs to feel like you still DO need her.

Uncertainty is one of the biggest tools you can use to get your ex back. Make her feel uncertain, and she’ll soon be doubting the breakup.

The ‘Make Your Ex Girlfriend Jealous’ Text

After the breakup, you get one good shot at making your ex jealous through a text message:

“You’re right, and I think it would be best if we both started seeing other people. Sorry it didn’t work out. I hope we can be friends again one day.”

Think about it: your ex dumped you because she thought she could do better. She expected you to be heartbroken, and to chase after her in trying to get her back.

This “chasing your ex” phase is something your girlfriend was counting on. It allows her the opportunity to let go of you little by little, at her own pace, because she’s safe and secure in the knowledge she can get you back with the snap of two fingers ANYTIME SHE WANTS.

So what just happened? You basically told her you were happy to go out and see other people. All of a sudden a picture forms in your girlfriend’s mind… a picture of you hugging and kissing some other girl.

Trust me, this is NOT what she wants! Your ex wanted you to sit around wallowing in misery and chasing after her for a while, inflating her ego while SHE got to go out and possibly see other people. Instead, just the opposite happened. YOU plan to see other people (apparently at the first available opportunity), and she’s the one left wondering if ending the relationship was the right decision.

She also has to wonder, for the first time ever, if getting YOU back is even a possibility.

See what happened? The entire situation has been turned around. Instead of looking for reasons to continue rejecting you, your ex girlfriend will begin searching for ways she could get back INTO the relationship, should she decide to do so.

Famous Hauntings of The Isle Of Wight, England

The Isle of Wight is one of my favourite places to visit and stay. In the late 1970’s we had a family holiday on the Isle of Wight and stayed in a Holiday Caravan. The island is famous for its Hauntings of places and houses and I thought it would be interesting to write about these spooky going – ons. The first Ghost Story concerns Dimbola Lodge which was the home of the famous 19th century photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. It is said her ghost haunts the museum and the visitors have reported the smell of photographic chemicals.

This small island is home to hundreds of ghosts and spooky happenings. There are all sorts of Isle of Wight ghosts – from phantom monks, grey ladies and poltergeists – to the shades of smugglers, soldiers, Royalty and Romans. There are ghostly murderers and their victims, ghost-ships out at sea, and even a ghost-train still running on long vanished rails.

With the Island´s rich historical heritage, its violent and colourful past, it´s not surprising that ghostly goings-on and haunting echoes of those turbulent times continue to reverberate through 21st century. Hundreds of unquiet and restless Isle of Wight ghosts have been reported here in Hotels, Hospitals, manor houses, Pubs, Shops and offices, while the spirits of smugglers and shipwrecked seamen walk lonely West Wight beaches.

List of Spooky and Ghostly IOW Hauntings

  1. APPULDURCOMBE HOUSE, Wroxall. This handsome haunted mansion with its 365 windows and 52 rooms is now a shell of its former self. The ghosts however, remain. They include a phantom carriage, brown-clad monks, dark shapes glimpsed flitting through the grounds. A baby´s cry is heard, and unseen hands regularly leaf through pages of the visitors´ book. KNIGHTON GORGES, Newchurch. Known as the Island´s most haunted place, every New Year´s Eve, people gather to wait for the ghostly house to re-appear. A pair of weathered stone gateposts are all that remain of the manor house of Knighton Gorges, yet it lives on, its blood-red history a testament to murder, suicide, insanity, malice, and a gallery of ghosts. A coach and horses, poltergeist lights, phantom revels and tales of stone creatures seen upon the gate pillars are just a few of the spooky happenings in this strange place. A brutal family murder and a young girl pushed from a window to her death are at the heart of the hauntings here. A little child in a blue dress is regularly seen and heard, crying “Mama Mama”. Other regular visitors are ghostly monks, whose grave chanting is heard, while the figure of a woman wearing a cherry-red gown has also been seen.

  2. Carisbrook Castle For more than nine centuries it has stood firm against attack, but within its walls, ghosts roam. In the famous well house where donkeys work the wooden tread wheel, the face of a dead girl who drowned in the160ft deep well, has been seen. A mysterious cloaked figure, with four dainty lap dogs, walks the castle grounds. Other phantoms include a Victorian lady in grey and tragic Princess Elizabeth, daughter of King Charles I, who died a prisoner here.

  3. HARE AND HOUNDS
    Arreton Murderous woodcutter Micah Morey who killed his young grandson in cold blood in 1737, was tried and hanged, and his corpse left rotting on the gibbet at Gallows Hill, near the Hare and Hounds, until it became ´an offence to eye and nostril´. The gibbet crossbeam, complete with a notch cut in it beside the date of his execution can be seen in the pub. Morey´s restless spirit can also be seen, roaming Gallows Hill, carrying a large axe.

  4. VENTNOR BOTANIC GARDENS
    For almost a century, the world-renowned chest hospital Royal National Hospital specialised in treating the killer disease, tuberculosis. When the half-mile long building was demolished in 1969, the site was transformed into gardens. The hospital was haunted long before this, and even today long-dead patients are still seen and heard. Ghostly weeping, groaning, and smells of ether are reported. A sickly, consumptive-looking ghost, and phantom nurses in old-fashioned uniforms walk the gardens.

  5. THE PUB THAT VANISHED
    You may never find this one, but have fun trying! One dark November night, two Island men set out from Newtown, on what became the strangest night of their lives. They came upon a pub – the Falcon or the Vulcan – where they shared a drink with some unsociable spirits. The drab bar felt unwelcoming and cold. Hostile eyes turned towards the two strangers and all conversation ceased. They drank up quickly and left. The strange old-fashioned pub, which was along a narrow lane somewhere between Newtown and Calbourne, has never been seen again. Despite repeated attempts, neither the lane nor ghostly pub has ever been found.

  6. Northwood House, Cowes Old Town. Northwood House is a Grade II listed Victorian residence built by the Ward family in 1837. It was donated under Trust to the town in 1929, the grounds becoming Northwood Park. Between 1902 and 1906, it was occupied by French Benedictine nuns, and the ghost of one of these sisters can be seen flitting through the park at night. Old stone tunnels under the park were once used by smugglers and, in cellars under the house, the ghost of a grinning pirate appears. On a still night, the sound of boxes and kegs being moved around in the empty cellars can sometimes be heard!

  7. Ghosts of Godshill Church.The Norman church at Godshill is associated with a legend that is common throughout Britain with slight variations. Tradition tells that the original site of the church was towards the Southwest, but each night the stones of the church were moved by an unknown agency on to the hill where the church now stands. The builders of the church wanted to discover who was moving the stones and posted a watch of two guards during the night. While keeping vigil they were astonished to see the stones move up the hill of their own volition. This was taken to be a sign from God that the church should be built of the hill, and the site was named Godshill afterwards. In other traditions it was actually the fairies who moved the stones. The meaning of this folklore motif is obscure, but it has been suggested that it has its roots in the fact that many churches were built on top of older places of worship.

  8. Haunting of St Catherines Lighthouse in Niton Village. St Catherine’s Lighthouse is situated in Niton Undercliffe, 5 miles from Ventnor and was built in 1838 following the loss of the ship called The Clarendon on rocks near to the present location. It’s Lighthouse haunted by a dark burley man.

  9. The Ghosts of Osborne House Osborne House is haunted by many Spirits in the rooms and hallways. One of the ghosts is supposed to be that of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, Earl of Clarence and Baron Arklow.

Tone Thighs – The Basics of Fat Loss and Toning

Most women have a part of their lower half that they’d like to alter. It’s ordinarily their rear, stomach, but frequently it’s the quads. Reducing thigh fat and strengthening the upper legs is usually one of the most toughest parts of the body for a woman to change. This is an area of the body that holds excess lipids(fats), and toning up or simply reducing your upper legs exclusively can at times appear impossible.

Controlling food intake is a great means to reduce fat, but it is unworkable to pinpoint a specified area with a mere fat reduction regime. Nearly all women lose fat in areas other than the thighs, like the stomach, breasts and hips. A combination of a calorie controlled diet with a whole body aerobics session is a highly effective way to demonstrate long-term fast results.

Weight lifting will help to promote lipid loss. Adding cardiovascular exercise will facilitate and work to tone thighs, calves and the rest of your body quickly. Gym and health clubs have a number of devices that will isolate and work the adductors and abductors, which are known to you and me as the inner and outer muscles on the thighs. Machines like that are a fantastic way to tone your legs, however should you find yourself lifting heavy, excessive weights regularly, you will end up with a way to increase the size of your thigh muscles! Obviously, this is the opposite of what we want.

The most powerful weapon of all though is attitude and motivation. It is often noted that the only difference between those who are slim and those who are fat are the beliefs that each person holds. While it may initially be tricky to start, as you see the results come in, the evidence of your mission to tone thighs will come shining through. This will spur you on more. By breaking down your weight loss and dieting goals into small chunks, you can focus on achieving each subsequent small goal. Looking only at the far off target will be off putting. Splitting big goals down into manageable chunks is exactly what the most successful people do in all areas of life, so if you want to be successful in losing your body fat, set small successive goals.

And when you achieve them, celebrate! Reward yourself, but not with food. Buy a new dress. Go out somewhere fun. Whatever it is, make sure you bathe in the feeling of your success, because each one you achieve brings you one step closer to your dream becoming reality.

A final word on motivation. It was once noted that motivation doesn’t last. They are right of course, which is why you should do it daily! What is the point in dieting and looking after your body if you are poisoning your mind with toxic ideas and bad self talk? Read other peoples success stories and surround yourself with tales of how other women overcame their troubles. We are all the same inside, so if they can lose the weight, so can you.
