An Aussie Journey – The Dead Heart by Douglas Kennedy

We first meet Nick Hawthorne in a Darwin bar. As a stripper offers contorted perspectives on what Australia has to offer, our hero from Maine meets a fellow countryman from Detroit intent on doing to Asia what America does to most places. (Personal opinions, eh?) Nick has some of those. He has a personal approach to life, but feels he gets little out of it, despite having achieved the status of being the first person principal character of Douglas Kennedy’s novel The Dead Heart.

Nick is a journalist who has only ever had bit jobs. They interested him bit, earned him a bit, stimulated somewhat less. Then he found a map of Australia and became so obsessed with the continent’s emptiness that he sold up and left the US to discover the unknown, to visit the unvisited. He is less than impressed with Darwin. It’s not a good start. But a VW camper van bought from a Jesus freak promises a great escape along the road to Broome. Not round the corner…

A hitcher called Angie provides welcome diversion from the repetition of the road. She seems easy-going, not to mention easy, and a little threatening. She is travelling for the first time, but exudes confidence. Nick, however, retains control. Or so he thinks…

Until he finds himself in Wollanup. It’s a town whose recent tragic history has removed it from the map. Nick has arrived at nowhere, the dead heart of a land. He is now unknown, has sex and beer on tap and an awful diet. A horror story haunted by powdered eggs…

Until Krystal starts to cook… His mechanical skills come into play. The rebuilt camper van is destroyed again. Its renewed mobility is a threat.

Events happen, like they do… Douglas Kennedy’s The Dead Heart evolves into a kind of fast-moving, page-turning thriller. But there are characters here. Something – not sure what! – seems almost credible. Nick is not the most likeable person, but this rather self-centred, thirty-odd, overweight hedonist does realise that there might be more to life than unlimited sex and beer on tap. He wants both, but clearly somewhere other than Wollanup.

What happens in The Dead Heart is crucial. It’s a plot-led work, but it is also engaging and well written. Its racy style fits the characters´ obvious preoccupations and helps to create a vivid portrait of lives that know only the here and now.

The Dead Heart is a book to be read in a single sitting. The process will leave readers wondering how they might have reacted in such circumstances. And what about Australia as depicted? Is this a stereotype? You bet…

Chlamydia – Diagnose My Symptoms For Chlamydia

Chlamydia signs and symptoms may or may not be seen in an individual that has contracted this very common Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). If symptoms are present, both men and women may have burning throughout urination, a discharge from the penis or vagina or pain. This report delivers a concise look at this bacterial infection so you can create an online diagnosis and shares what you can expect if you contracted a chlamydia infection.

Chlamydia Symptoms And Causes

Signs and symptoms of a chlamydia infection won’t be seen in 25 to 30 percent of men and women with the disorder. If symptoms are seen they can be different for men and women.

Signs and symptoms in males may include:

  • Burning feeling in the course of urination
  • Discharge from the penis
  • Tenderness or discomfort noticed in the testicles
  • Rectal discomfort or discharge

Signs and symptoms in females may include:

  • A burning sensation in the course of urination
  • Discharge from the vagina
  • Painful sexual intercourse
  • Rectal discomfort or discharge

Chlamydia infection is brought on by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. It is a highly common sexually transmitted disease and those who are sexually active or who have several sexual partners are at the biggest risk.

Infants may become infected (rare) when passing through the birth canal of an infected mother. This may lead to the development of chlamydia-related conjunctivitis (eye infection) and pneumonia (chlamydial pneumonia)

Chlamydia Diagnosis And Treatment

The preliminary diagnosis could be based on the earlier mentioned signs and symptoms if they are observed. To more fully form a diagnosis, analysis or culture of any discharge or secretions could be necessary.

Treatment typically includes the doctor prescription of antibiotic medications (i.e. tetracyclines, azithromycin, or erythromycin) to combat the infection. A follow-up analysis may be carried out in approximately 4 weeks to determine if the infection has been cured. The infected individual is strongly encouraged to inform other sexual companions of their infection so they may be tested and to prevent the spread of the sickness.

With early antibiotic treatment, an infected person can expect excellent final results and the avoidance of any long-term health complications. Nonetheless, if the infection is not treated correctly or treatment is delayed, further inflammation can occur. In a woman, untreated chlamydia may lead to an infection of the uterus or fallopian tubes creating Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), which might lead to infertility or a heightened chance of ectopic pregnancy.

Evaluating Credit Card Offers: Essential Terms You Must Understand

Credit card offers, they’re everywhere! They appear in your mailbox. They pop up while you’re surfing the Internet. They’re in slick brochures next to the cash register or gas pump. They’re in full-page ads in the Sunday papers.

If you need a new credit card, how do you choose? You should evaluate each offer carefully, and to do that you must understand these essential terms.

Annual Percentage Rate (APR):

The interest rate charged on your account balance. (But see “Balance Calculation Methods,” because the rules for computing interest from your balance and your APR can vary.) Your statement will usually show the APR and a monthly and/or daily rate based on the APR that’s actually used to calculate your monthly interest. There may be several APRs applicable to different portions of your balance, for example an introductory rate, a regular purchase rate, and a regular cash advance rate.

A fixed APR is set by the credit card company, which can generally change it with as little as 15 days advance notice, especially if you run afoul of any of the “gotchas” in the terms. These “gotchas” are often very consumer-unfriendly. For example, many companies these days reserve the right to raise your rate if you’ve been late on a payment to another, unrelated company.

A variable APR is tied to some widely used economic index, such as the Prime Rate. It may be stated as “prime + x%, currently y%,” for example “prime + 7%, currently 13.5%.” This means that when the Prime Rate is 6.5%, your APR is 13.5%. When the Prime Rate goes up or down, so does your APR. But beware, because some of the same “gotchas” apply to variable APRs as to fixed APRs. Read the fine print. It may state that if you’re late with one payment, your APR will no longer be variable but will rise to an exorbitant fixed rate, usually over 20%.

The penalty APR is the rate to which your APR will immediately be raised when you violate any of the “gotchas” in the terms. This rate is usually at least 50% higher than the regular APR. Again, be sure to read the fine print to see what situations will trigger the penalty APR. You’ll often see these: failure to pay this or any other account on time, exceeding your credit limit on this or any other account, excessive credit balances on your accounts in aggregate.

Balance Calculation Methods:

These are important to understand, because your APR is only part of the story when it comes to calculating the interest you’ll be charged each month. The other part is how the balance is calculated to which the APR is applied. In any case the balance is multiplied by the daily or monthly interest rate. But the balance calculation is not as straightforward as you might think.

1. Two-Cycle Balance. This is the worst method from a consumer’s point of view because it can lead to the highest interest calculations. Unfortunately, it’s also becoming the most widely used method. To calculate the balance, add together the average daily balances for the current billing period (sometimes even including new charges) and the previous period. Here’s why this is so unfriendly to you. Say you have run a balance for a few months and finally pay it from $200 down to zero at the end of May. You think it’s safe to use the card in June for a new $100 purchase, and if you pay the $100 by the end of the June grace period, you won’t owe any interest on it. But you’re wrong. Since your average daily balance in May was not zero (say it was $120), and since you used the card in June, your interest will be calculated on May’s average balance again, so even if you pay the whole June purchase in June, you will still owe additional interest. In other words, you must wait two months, allow the account to cycle once with a zero balance, before it’s safe to use it again – “safe” in the sense that you won’t incur extra interest if you pay the balance in full by the end of the grace period.

2. Average Daily Balance. This was once the most common calculation method and is still popular. Add the daily balance for each day in the billing cycle, then divide by the number of days in the cycle. Depending on the terms, this may or may not include new charges.

3. Adjusted Balance. This is the best method from a consumer’s point of view, but it’s rapidly going the way of the dodo. Take the balance at the beginning of the billing cycle, then subtract any payments or other credits recorded during the cycle. Do not include new charges during the cycle. For example, if your beginning balance was $1200, and you paid $400 during the cycle, the balance to which your monthly rate will be applied is $800, regardless of any new charges.

Balance Transfer:

This means that you’re charging card X to pay off (all or part of) the balance on card Y. So the balance is, in effect, transferred from card Y to card X. Why would you want to do this? Usually to take advantage of an introductory low interest rate when applying for a new card. Look closely at the terms. Sometimes these introductory rates last only a few months. The best ones are for the life of the balance. You will often have to pay a transaction fee equal to 3% of the balance transferred. Sometimes these fees are capped at $75 or so. Be sure to see whether or not the transaction fee exceeds what you’ll save in interest. If so, don’t do it. Sometimes the credit card company will agree to waive the fee, especially on a new account. Don’t be afraid to ask.

Cash Advance:

A cash loan charged immediately to your credit card account. Usually there is no grace period for paying off a cash advance, which means you’ll be charged interest starting from the day of the loan, even if you pay it in full by the end of the billing cycle. Also this type of charge may have a higher APR than purchases or balance transfers. Check your terms. Note that some kinds of transactions, like buying casino chips or lottery tickets, may be treated as cash advances. This can also apply to writing a purchase check to your own bank account. Be sure to read the fine print.

Credit Limit:

The upper limit on your account balance. Exceeding it may result in penalties. Be very careful if your balance is close to the limit (“maxed out”), because you can exceed it without charging anything new if you fail to pay enough. Remember that just because the company has approved you for a certain limit doesn’t mean you can afford to take on that much debt.

Disclosure Chart:

An important portion of the Terms and Conditions statement. It’s a little bit like the Nutrition Statement on a food package because the law dictates what has to be listed here. If you can’t stand to read all the fine print, be sure that you read this part.

  1. fixed APR or APRs after any introductory rate(s) have expired
  2. rule(s) for calculating variable APR(s) if applicable
  3. grace period
  4. annual fee if applicable
  5. minimum per-cycle finance charge
  6. additional fees if applicable, such as cash advance fees
  7. balance calculation method
  8. late payment and delinquency fees
  9. over limit fees

Grace Period:

The time, calculated from the account cycle date, during which you can pay the balance in full without having any interest charged. This usually applies only to purchases, and only if you’ve paid the previous month’s balance in full and on time. (Sometimes even that’s not enough. See “Two-Cycle Balance” calculation method for an additional “gotcha.”)

Pre-Approved:

This can be very misleading. It doesn’t mean the company is guaranteeing to issue you the card in the offer. It just means they chose you to receive this offer based on some general screening of your credit report. They always reserve the right to deny or alter the offer based on a more detailed examination of your records.

Once in a Lifetime Fly Fishing on the Cimarron River

Two of my favorite New Mexico rivers to fish are the San Juan River and Cimarron River. This story is about the Cimarron. The Cimarron River is in Northeast New Mexico and emanates out of Eagle Nest Lake. Located on the eastern edge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, this dry fly gem flows eastward through Cimarron Canyon State Park along US Hwy 64. After flowing into several other rivers this water ultimately reaches the Mississippi River. New Mexico Game and Fish estimates nearly 4,000 catchable sized wild browns per mile, this is unquestionably the healthiest wild brown trout fishery in the state and one of the healthiest in the southern Rocky Mountains. Most of the wild browns are 10-14 inches with the occasional big boy. This fishery is not well known but can still get a little crowded close to the roads during mid summer.

I can easily get to the Cimarron within a one-day hard drive from my Fly Shop near Tyler, Texas and be fishing late that afternoon or early the next morning. The high mountain scenery is beautiful and the fishing is great.

My story begins in the middle of June 2002. During June, the stonefly hatch is in full swing on the Cimarron and big browns will eagerly attack a size 14 or 16 Stimulator with regularity. This is my favorite time of year to fish this river. This is dry fly fishing at its best.

Unfortunately, if you remember, this was during the time wild fires were engulfing many parts of New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. The Cimarron Canyon State Park was surrounded by a couple of such fires.

I arrived at the Pine Ridge Hotel, only about a mile from quality fishing water, late Monday evening. This is a quaint little four-room hotel nestled near the entrance of the state park. After checking in, the hotel owner told me that the park was closed and had been since Friday. Because of the fire dangers, it was closed to everything including camping, hiking, picnicking and YES… fishing. Every park pull off was barricaded in bright yellow. It seems like every other tree had a Park Closed sign nailed to it. I couldn’t believe it. I had driven 12 hours strait to spend some personal time dry fly fishing and… wouldn’t you know it… No Fishing. I was sick. If you have ever wanted to see a big man cry this would have been a great opportunity.

There were no other places near by that I could fish unless I had a guide to fish some private waters that were near by. I called my good friend, Doc Thompson, of High Country Anglers. Doc is the best fly fishing guide for the small streams of Northeast New Mexico including some private areas of the Cimarron. He was booked. No chance for me to fish any private water.

I was considering cutting my losses, packing up my gear and heading home with my tail tucked between my legs when I saw the park ranger turn into the motel parking lot. I eagerly approached him, explained my predicament and pleaded with him to be merciful on this misguided Texan. He indicated that there was little he could do. He was ordered by higher-ups to close the park. The area was very dry and the fear of the forest fire spreading was at an all time high. He finally gave me a minuscule window of hope when he said that if the wind didn’t pick up or change directions during the night he would ask if he could open the park the next day. No guarantees. There was only a small chance of things falling my way but I decided to wait it out and see.

The next morning, bight and early, I walked to the hotel owners desk with my fingers and toes crossed. “Great news” the owner said, “you can fish.” The park ranger called the hotel and told the owner to go tell Tex he can fish. The ranger opened the park to fishing only. No one could camp, hike or picnic. Fishing only. Best of all, he left all of the barricades and Park Closed signs up. My head began to buzz with this scenario. Could it be true? Is it possible that any where in this country there is a stream that is full of big browns, full of fish eager to slam dry flies, has had no fishing for five days, has Park Closed signs on every other tree and has bright yellow barricades at every pull off? Is this really happening? And most of all… is this really happening to me? YES… it was!!!

I almost broke a leg and a fly rod getting to river so quick. I was the only person fishing this 12-mile stretch of quality trout water. The ONLY person. The river has had no fishing pressure for five days. None. Notta. Absolutely zero. What a magnificent opportunity. I hit the water at 8:00 am. Knowing that the stonefly hatch would began at a bout 9:00 am, I tied on a size 16 yellow Stimulator with a Copper John dropper on my 2wt rod. For the next hour, the catch was 50/50 on the dry and nymph. When the hatch started, I removed the nymph in order concentrate on the dry. My stimulator was repeatedly demolished by hungry trout. The hatch started around 9:00 am and eventually tapered off around 2:00 pm as the day warmed. During that time, I landed more than 40 nice brown on a dry. Most of them were in the 10 to 12 inch range. Some a little smaller and some a little bigger. The whole time, I saw no other person on the river. I was in total fly fishing bliss. Later that afternoon, as the temperature began to drop, they started hitting hard again and did so until just before dark. I lost count of the total number of fish that I caught that day. After a while you just quit counting. The fishing was phenomenal and the solitude was even better.

During the day, when I would take brake at my parked Jeep for a shot of Joe or something, people would drive buy giving me the stare of disgust. I could see their lips mumble something like, “that idiot Texan… can’t he read the signs?” I was in no way interested in setting them strait. I wanted the entire state on New Mexico as well as the whole wide world to think the park was completely closed and may never open again.

That evening, back at my room, the harsh realities of that summer were vivid. I sat on my front porch and watched the helicopters and other large aircraft drop loads of water on the forest fires that were scattered along the mountainside. Huge walls of smoke draped the horizon. I couldn’t help but become sorrowed because of the destruction that was unfolding before my eyes. When it was too dark to see, I retired to the confines of my room.

Later that night, as I lay packed tight in my cozy little bed, I found it difficult to sleep. As my mind drifted from the fires outside and danced with thoughts of my day of fishing, I giggled as I felt myself swelling with contentment. My angling experience kept running through my mind. I couldn’t help but wonder what the next day would bring. Would my fly fishing solitude come to an end? Guess what… it didn’t.

I hit the park early the next morning to be faced with the very same scenario. The signs and barricades were still in place and no one was in sight. Using the same flies and techniques I enjoyed equal success as I had the day before. It wasn’t until late that afternoon did I see the only other car in the park. The word was finally out. By then, it was OK. I enjoyed a few hours of good fishing the next morning before heading back to Tyler.

Is there a moral here? I don’t know. It was defiantly a fishing trip that I will never forget. In retrospect, however, it seems really unfortunate that my memorable fishing trip was at the expense of so much. The southwest lost an awful lot of good forest and helpless wildlife during that horrible time. Homes were gone and lively hoods were destroyed. I suppose the saying remains true, “someone’s good fortune is usually at someone else’s expense.”

Manuka Honey for the Treatment of Heartburn and Acid Reflux Disease

Heartburn is when you have a burning sensation in your chest behind your breastbone.  It is a symptom of acid reflux disease.  This is when acid from your stomach flows back into your esophagus.  Persistent heartburn two or more days per week is the most common symptom of acid reflux disease.  Other signs include coughing, wheezing, hoarseness, sore throat or difficulty swallowing.  Some people experience food coming back into their mouths after swallowing. Others experience a sour or bitter taste in their mouth, belching or burning chest pain that may get worse after eating or lying down.   Everyone experiences heartburn once in a while.  However, if you have heartburn two or more days per week, experience symptoms for several months or if the symptoms disrupt your sleep, you may have acid reflux disease.   When you swallow, the muscular walls of your esophagus contract to push food down into your stomach.  Your esophagus is a tube that connects your mouth and stomach.  In normal digestion, a muscular valve opens to let food into your stomach and closes to keep food and stomach acid from flowing back into your esophagus.  If you have heartburn or acid reflux disease, this valve is weak or it relaxes at the wrong time, causing stomach acid to flow back into your esophagus.  When stomach acid touches the lining of the esophagus, it creates a burning feeling in your chest or throat.  If you have frequent heartburn or acid reflux disease, your esophagus can become damaged.    Other health conditions that affect your digestive system can increase your risk of developing acid reflux disease such as obesity, hiatal hernia, asthma, etc.  There is medication available to treat heartburn and acid reflux disease but they usually have a tendency to cause negative side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, upper respiratory tract infections, vomiting and flatulence.  Antacids can be used to manage occasional heartburn but they don’t provide long-term relief or help to heal damage to your esophagus.  In addition, overusing antacids can lead to constipation or diarrhea.   There is a natural solution for heartburn and acid reflux disease.  It’s called Manuka Honey and it is derived from the nectar of the flowers that grow on the Manuka tea tree which is indigenous to New Zealand.  Taking one teaspoon of Manuka Honey about a half hour before breakfast, lunch and dinner and then a fourth time before bed will reduce or eliminate the symptoms of acid reflux disease.   “Manuka Honey has been used as a medicine in New Zealand for decades but has been recently gaining recognition as a natural healing agent in other countries,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International which is the largest importer of Manuka Honey in the U.S.  “Manuka Honey has very powerful healing properties that have been found to have no negative side effects when used for medicinal purposes.  We refer to it as natures best kept secret.”   For more information or to purchase Manuka Honey, call 1-866-427-7329 or visit www.HoneymarkProducts.com.

A Glimpse At Herbal Slimming Products

These herbal weight loss products are considered safe in general. Their contents are from plants, which have already been in use during the early times for their wonderful health contributions. They act differently in helping the person get rid of unwanted pounds.

When buying one, you should read the label carefully. Likewise, you may conduct a research about it via the internet. Some manufacturers may still use substances that may have some nasty side effects. One of these substances is laxative. Abdominal cramps and diarrhea may ensue, plus intake can be habit-forming. Another is ephedra. This substance can lead to hypertension, and can cause stroke or heart attack.

However, there are herbal ingredients which are considered as effective and safe to be used. Cayenne can help boost the metabolism because of the capsaicin contents. A similar effect can be given by guarana, as it works just like caffeine. Guar gum is a type of fiber, and is great for sweeping out toxins that have accumulated within the intestinal tract.

Preventing you from overeating is garcina cambogia, because it makes you feel full right away. The same benefits can be provided by a blue green algae called spirulina. Yerba mate can help in spiking up your metabolism. Guggul works in two ways: it facilitates the burning of excess fats, as well as reduces the levels of bad cholesterol. Coleus can stimulate the thyroid gland to produce hormones and increase metabolic rate. Kelp acts in that very same manner.

One of the most popularly used substances is green tea. It’s rich in an antioxidant called flavonoid, which keeps healthy cells in the body from being damaged by free radicals. Moreover, just like caffeine, it speeds up your metabolism. Nettle, on the other hand, heats up the body to make the fat burning process very efficient.

But the list of herbs used can go on and on. Aside from making you lose weight, most of them also supply little amounts of vitamins and minerals. They can help in boosting the body’s immune system. Additionally, they make you feel energetic and be physically active. These substances can be purchased in the form of herbal diet pills, powder or tea.

To get results much faster, of course it’s best to pair taking them with regular working out. Such should be done not less than 20 minutes, at least 5 times in a week. Then you should also go for healthy food options. All you really have to do is steer clear of food items that are greasy, excessively sweet, and laden with fats and calories. Devote some time for meal preparation, so you know exactly what goes into your mouth.

Herbal slimming supplements can be bought over the counter, at beauty and health stores. Bear in mind that they should be part of a healthy lifestyle, with regular working out and proper eating habits.

This homoeopathic drug is mostly prescribed for bronchitis, bronchopneumonia (cold in chest), asthma and other chest complaints.

It is beneficial for young children and old, weak people, who easily become victims of exposure to sharp cold spell in winter, and suffer from chest congestion.

Patients cough but are unable to get phlegm (mucus) out owing to weak body or the lungs.  Thus, the chest rattles.  The victim feels difficulty in breathing while lying in bed.

The newborn and other infants may have their first attack at the time of birth.  But such children become prone to subsequent exposure to cold later in life until they reach adolescent age, if not treated judiciously.

During such attacks the face becomes cold and darkish blue owing to lack of oxygen supply.  They may have low or high fever with their tongue thickly white-coated.  The nostrils may be dilated and in flapping condition and the child coughs loudly.  He becomes dull, drowsy and unconscious.

The acute manifestations are soreness, bruises and there is ache allover the body.

         Injuries

The patient does not like to lie down as every thing on which he rests seems hard and uncomfortable.  He, therefore; constantly keeps on changing position.

There may be ecchymosis (black and blue spot) caused by a fall or an accident with or without fever.

People who take rich food, attend parties and generally overindulge themselves until late night, often have irregular bowel movement (or have constipation).  They take laxatives like Hajmola, liver tonics, etc.

Nux Vomica soothes and calms over-excited nervous system and improves digestion and bowel movement.  It increases appetite, vigour and gives potency to males who have ruined themselves by excessive use of stimulants.  That is why it is called the medicine of “bigrey” Nawab (spoilt men).

It may be taken in low potency of 6 or 30 (in case of irritable over-excited persons), and above 200 or more potency in case of habitually constipated and hard drinkers.  It is one of the best remedy for mania-a-potu (acuge alcoholism).

Nux Vomica of 6 and 30 potency should be taken once a day before going to sleep at night.  If it is 200 potency then it should be taken once a week.  If it is still higher then once a fortnight.

Honda HHT35SUKA Brush Cutter and String Trimmer Review

Choosing an affordable string trimmer that can handle regular trimming jobs and heavier brush and weeds is no easy feat. Why? Because there are so many excellent products out there from 4 cycle Stihl’s to 2 stroke Echo’s. I have a 24cc, 2 stroke Echo that has lasted four years with only minor problems, but needed a heavier duty trimmer for weed abatement.

After perusing the internet I found the Honda HHT35SUKA, a straight shaft combination brush cutter and string trimmer. The price came to less than $400.00, which was all I could afford. After a little study I decided to give it a try.

Powered by a heavy Honda 35cc mini 4 stroke engine, the HHT35SUKA is quite heavy. However, bike handles and a double harness make it easier to handle the extra weight. Weighing slightly over 15 lbs, I found I could use it most of a day with little strain. That is saying a lot, since at the age of 59 I weigh in at about 148 lbs, with shoes on.

The product boasts the ability to easily transit between “regular trimming tasks and cutting brush, heavy weeds, and even small trees.” However, by the time you dismantle the head, install the saw blade and change to a special blade guard, the cows in the field are gathered around you giving advice. The 10 inch saw blade is included, but is not the best quality.

The 4-stroke engine starts reliably and of course does not require a mixture of oil and gas; the manufacturer insists upon premium. The 4 stroke engine produces less smoke and less smell and is fairly fuel efficient. The first time I used it I spent too much time in one spot and went through a tank of gas way too quickly. However, once I got into a rhythm it was smooth sailing and fewer refills.

My biggest complaint is that I have to carry pliers with me to extract the used up, shortened string. Plus, you have to measure out and insert two pieces of new string to the correct length, manually.

So, turn off the machine, undo the harness (which does not disengage as easily as advertised), yank out the used string from the head with pliers, pull the string out that I carry wound up in my pocket, cut to measure with hand pruners, insert–sometimes easily and sometimes with pliers–reattach to the harness and restart the machine.

It sounds awful but I eventually got the hang of it and was able to change string fairly quickly, but not nearly as fast or as easy as, say, a bump feed head.

The HHT35SUKA is so quiet that at first I found myself constantly looking down to make sure the weeds were actually being cut. Yes, they were, and at a good, steady pace.

People who are used to 2 cycle trimmers complain about 4 cycles not having enough power. This is because a 2 stroke engine fires only once for each turn of the piston. Every time the piston cycles, the air and fuel mixture is forced in and the exhaust forced out. Therefore, every stroke of the piston is a power stroke.

A power stroke (spark plug igniting compressed air and fuel) for a 4 cycle trimmer forces the piston down, but the momentum of the piston then only drives the exhaust out on its return. The continuing momentum again plunges the piston downward without help from its spark plug, creating a vacuum above that sucks in fuel and air. When returning upward a second time, the highly compressed fuel and air are again ignited by the plug. In other words, in a 4 stroke engine every other cycle is a power stroke.

While the 2 cycle creates instant torque, the extra piston in a 4 cycle ultimately provides more power for tougher weeds and brush, though with a slight delay in comparison to the 2 cycle. Because of their frenetic activity and less lubrication, 2 cycle trimmers tend to wear out sooner.

The HHT35SUKA comes with a double harness and safety goggles, though you will probably want to get better goggles. I purchased face protection that resembles a welder’s mask, as the debris jumping up into my face increased in volume and in speed when using the Honda trimmer.

Watch out for rocks when using the blade as the ensuing sparks can start a fire!

The HHT35SUKA has a 2 year residential warranty and a 1 year commercial warranty through Honda. For more details about this trimmer go to http://www.mowersatjacks.com/Product-Details/HONDA/647610#sthash.a5OZt3e7.dpuf

Physical Changes That Could Indicate an Individual Is Possessed by a Demon

Becoming a ghost hunter means that you must learn how to pinpoint the physical changes that could indicate an individual is possessed by a demon. Out of all the spiritual entities that you are likely to experience as a paranormal investigator, the demonic entity is one of the most terrifying. When a demon is powerful enough to possess a human, it is even more terrifying. Ghost investigators typically research places that are believed to be haunted, but there are some instances when you will be required to investigate a person that is believed to be haunted. If that person is experiencing demonic possession, you will need to be able to identify the physical changes that they may exhibit in order to refer them to a specialist that will be able to help.

When dealing with people that are experiencing what appears to be demonic possession, you will find that many of the symptoms that they exhibit reflect modern day psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, depression, paranoia, and even bipolar disorder. As a matter of fact, medical professionals and religious leaders from ancient times would often tag someone who exhibited the signs of mental illness as being possessed or overtaken by evil. While it is true that many who seem to be possessed actually have a psychiatric condition, it is often challenging to distinguish those that also exhibit the physical signs as being mentally ill. The following represents some of the physical symptoms that may be experienced by a person that is being controlled by a physical entity:

– Many individuals that are being controlled by a demon may start to speak in an unusual manner. Many may refer to this as “speaking in tongues”. However, there are some people that have been known to speak in languages that they would have no idea of prior to the possession.

– Many may begin to exhibit an extremely high level of strength while others may exhibit an extreme level of weakness.

– You may find that the eyes become extremely dark. Many describe the eyes of those that are possessed as being all black or resembling the eyes that a shark has. Many people that experience changes with their eyes may also go for really long periods of time without blinking – not even once.

– Many people that are controlled by a demon may exhibit behavior that is similar to those in a catatonic state. This is a symptom that is normally experienced by those that have a psychiatric condition as well. It is important to seek help immediately if this symptom is experienced in order to rule out any physiological or psychological cause.

– Many individuals may start to develop bruises, cuts, welts, and other unusual markings on their body.

– The basic features of the body may change. You may start to notice that the person is losing weight rapidly, their skin becomes pale, they have dark circles under their eyes, and they appear quite distant.

When you go through the process of becoming a ghost hunter, you should make sure to print this guide out and keep it on your person at all times. It is also important that you learn the psychological changes associated with demonic possession as well. It is common for a ghost investigator to run into field investigations that are believed to be caused by demonic entities. By learning the physical signs of this type of haunting, it will be easy to protect yourself and your team and refer the sufferer to an appropriate professional that can assist in forcing the demon out of the body.

What is a Psychiatric Patient? A Common Sense Guide to Psychiatry – Part Three

A study of psychiatry’s diagnostic manual will confirm this for anyone who cares to look.

Examples of nuances of human behavior and the ups and downs of living re-categorized as an “illness” requiring treatment include:

– Seasonal Anxiety Disorder (feeling “blue” at Christmas).

– Dyspraxia (the tendency of children to be clumsy)

– Sexual Addiction (the tendency of some people to be sexually overactive or unethical)

– Depression (feeling down after a loss, redundancy and so on.)

You are mentally ill if a psychiatrist says you are mentally ill. All that is required for you to be labeled mentally ill is for a psychiatrist to give that opinion. He does not have to produce, and cannot produce, any scientifically proven yardstick or clear consistent definition of each so-called mental disorder. He cannot produce and is not required to produce any diagnostic criteria for adjudging that you have a disorder.

Psychiatrists are busy adding new “disorders” to their list as fast as they can dream them up.

Psychiatrists long ago discovered that they could dream up disorders at will without the need for any true science behind them and get away with it because there was in fact no independent body monitoring and scrutinizing their methods and ensuring they measured up to rigorous scientific standards. Psychiatry had been operating thus with impunity and was consequently thoroughly entrenched, for a hundred years before anyone had the wisdom to subject it to scrutiny and found its scientific credentials to be bogus. (I refer you to the history of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights).

Based on his “diagnosis” of your condition, the psychiatrist can then begin “treatment.” Such treatment nowadays usually involves the administering of powerful brain-altering drugs that do irreparable damage to the brain and nervous system and produce a slew of unpleasant side effects. Such treatment earns revenue for the psychiatrist. He cannot make money unless he diagnoses you as having an illness that must be treated.

If you refuse treatment? Well, that’s a disorder too, requiring treatment.

The psychiatrist can always force you to undergo treatment. He has the legal power to commit anyone for as long as he see fit, simply based upon his unsubstantiated diagnosis (opinion) that it is “for our own good.”

Once you have been labeled mentally ill, you surrender your liberties and human rights to the hands of psychiatry. Essentially you’ve had it.

What happens to a psychiatric patient?

When you become a psychiatric patient you are administered one or more of the following:

Drugs to produce a malleable, zombie-like condition

ECT: Electro Convulsive Therapy, to produce a malleable zombie-like condition

Lobotomy: to produce a malleable, zombie-like condition.

The disturbingly bizarre behavior we commonly see in psychiatric patients is almost always caused by the brain-damaging TREATMENT they have received in psychiatric hands and NOT an alleged mental illness.

Losing Your Hair? Check Out the Major Causes of Hair Loss and Available Treatments

Why is my hair falling out? This was the question I kept asking myself when I noticed more and more hair in my brush and on the bathroom floor every day. I knew it was normal for everyone to shed some hair on a regular basis, but as time went by, I could no longer ignore my disappearing tresses. Even my hairdresser started commenting on how thin my hair was getting and how hard it was to style now.

Teasing only made things worse and soon, I had to resort to wearing a hair piece to cover the bare scalp areas that were now clearly visible. When my eyelashes and eyebrow hair fell out as well, I knew this was serious business…and I was only 68 years old. I decided to do some research and see if I could find some answers to the hair loss I was experiencing.

First, as so many of us do these days, I went to the Internet and looked up hair loss. I found that there could be several common medical explanations for this problem:

  • Hormonal problems such as an imbalance of androgens and estrogens
  • Hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, discontinuation of birth control pills, the onset of menopause
  • Some medications, including blood thinners and antidepressants
  • Diet deficiencies and poor nutrition
  • Physiological stress such as a high fever or prolonged illness, sudden or excessive weight loss, surgery, or metabolic disturbances
  • Male pattern baldness in men

None of these conditions applied to me and did not explain the continued thinning of what was once, my thick head of hair. However, in researching further, I read with alarm that hair loss (alopecia) may occur as part of a serious underlying disease such as diabetes, lupus or hypothyroidism. I decided that the sensible thing to do was to seek professional medical attention. I consulted several physicians including a dermatologist, a neurologist and an endocrinologist, who ordered many tests to make sure I did not have any of these diseases. Although I was quite delighted that all these tests were negative, I was still left with the same question, why is my hair still falling out?

I became sick and tired of having a hair piece pinned into my hairdo every time I went to the hair salon. The pins gave me a head-ache and what’s worse, my social life suffered for I couldn’t take the chance that my hair would be touched.

Losing my hair had caused me a nightmare of embarrassment, loss of self-esteem, fear of intimacy and exposure and great expense. If I could not find a way to reverse my hair loss, I would soon need a full wig. I could not face a future like this. In desperation, I even tried the colored powder that’s sprinkled on the scalp to fill in the bare spots. This was messy, temporary, and didn’t fool anyone.

While I felt somewhat better that I had ruled out all the serious causes of hair loss, I decided that I had to find some way to stop my hair from falling out and I was determined to re-grow the full, healthy head of hair I had always been so proud of.

I decided to look into the other hair loss solutions on the market and started with the “grow hair” lotions, shampoos, hair vitamin pills, selenium supplements, etc., products they advertised in mail order catalogues. These were a total waste of time and money.

I knew there was available the more drastic option of hair transplant surgery but I decided that this was not a possible solution for me. I dismissed it for I didn’t want to suffer through the numerous, painful surgical sessions that were necessary and besides, I couldn’t afford the extravagant cost involved.

I moved on to the medicinal products. You’re probably aware of the expensive brand name products that are advertised so much. These included dandruff shampoos, scalp treatments and the most famous products whose ingredients are fairly similar, with one half of the liquid consisting of propylene glycol, one third was alcohol (both inactive ingredients), and the same 5% minoxidil. These topical solution products were not for me because you have to apply them to the scalp twice a day, and can’t miss a treatment. Some you roll on and some you rub in but no matter how you apply them, they spoil your hairdo and make your hair feel nasty. Some even come with their own disgusting smell.

I’m glad that I did my research and followed the sensible course of action. If you are suffering from hair loss, make sure you check the list of common medical causes with your doctor and have all the serious diseases that may be responsible, ruled out.

To this day, I do not have a definitive answer to the question of why my hair was falling out. However, after months of searching and trials of all kinds of hair growing products, I finally found my hair loss solution and a way to re-grow my hair with effective and affordable Legitime Scalp Air Tonic!

How Insulin Resistance May Play Role In Hair Loss

hair loss research target ppar-yInsulin resistance and its role in diabetes has been known for decades and much research has led to advancements in Type II diabetic therapy.

There are many known possible factors of developing diabetes. It has increasingly been found that that hair loss in some people may be due to insulin resistance and the topic is being studied by many leading hair loss research centers especially for cases of scarring alopecia.

Recent research by Pratima Karnik, Ph.D., and investigators at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and the University of California, San Francisco, found that the initiating event in the pathogenesis of scarring alopecia may be loss of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma function aka ppar-y. Their finding paves the way for clinical trials testing the hypothesis that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (ppar)-gamma upregulation may offer a novel means of treating scarring alopecia. The ppar-gamma agonists, thiazolidinediones and glitazones, are prescribed for glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

“This work about ppar-gamma is just so exciting. In just the next year or two, it could [make a difference] in the way we treat patients with cicatricial alopecia,” said Dr. Kenneth Washenik at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.

“This is a really, really important milestone paper,” said Dr. Washenik, a dermatologist at New York University and medical director at Bosley Medical, the nation’s largest hair restoration group.

The ground-breaking report included several related studies (J. Invest. Dermatol. 2008;129:1066-70). In one, the investigators performed gene microarray analysis using scalp biopsy specimens from patients with lichen planopilaris (LPP)–an inflammatory scarring hair disorder–and from normal controls. LPP patients had reduced expression of genes required for lipid metabolism and production of peroxisomes.

Immunohistochemical studies in lesional and uninvolved skin of LPP patients showed progressive loss of ppargamma activity and local accumulation of unprocessed lipids.

These lipids appeared to be proinflammatory. In areas of lesional skin they were accompanied by production of proinflammatory cytokines and infiltration of inflammatory cells, followed by the hallmark of LPP: the destruction of sebaceous glands and hair follicles, with resultant scarring.

The investigators also showed that ppar-gamma agonists induced peroxisomal and lipid metabolic gene expression in keratinocytes.

The clincher in making a case for loss of ppar-gamma function being the key initiating event in the pathogenesis of LPP–and by inference in the other cicatricial alopecia as well involved the investigators’ work with transgenic mice. The team created a knockout mouse model lacking ppar-gamma in follicular stem cells. These mice gradually developed a progressive scarring alopecia beginning at about age 4 weeks, with complete scarring alopecia by 4 months.

The mouse’s scarring alopecia looked histologically just like LPP: dystrophic hair follicles, follicular plugging, perifollicular fibrosis, and, most importantly, dystrophic sebaceous glands with perifollicular and interstitial inflammation.

Dr. Washenik noted that these new LPP studies are merely the latest in a series of reports suggesting a variety of potential dermatologic applications for glitazones.

Is There a God?

The following offers 6 candid, straight-forward reasons to believe in the existence of God…

Just once wouldn’t you love for someone to simply show you the evidence for God’s existence? No arm-twisting. No statements of, “You just have to believe.” Well, here is an attempt to candidly offer some of the reasons which suggest that God exists.

But first consider this. If a person opposes even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence can be rationalized or explained away. It is like if someone refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then no amount of information is going to change their thinking. Photographs of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews with the astronauts, moon rocks…all the evidence would be worthless, because the person has already concluded that people cannot go to the moon.

When it comes to the possibility of God’s existence, the Bible says that there are people who have seen sufficient evidence, but they have suppressed the truth about God.1 On the other hand, for those who want to know God if he is there, he says, “You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you.”2 Before you look at the facts surrounding God’s existence, ask yourself, If God does exist, would I want to know him? Here then, are some reasons to consider…

1. The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer.

The Earth…its size is perfect. The Earth’s size and corresponding gravity holds a thin layer of mostly nitrogen and oxygen gases, only extending about 50 miles above the Earth’s surface. If Earth were smaller, an atmosphere would be impossible, like the planet Mercury. If Earth were larger, its atmosphere would contain free hydrogen, like Jupiter.3 Earth is the only known planet equipped with an atmosphere of the right mixture of gases to sustain plant, animal and human life.

The Earth is located the right distance from the sun. Consider the temperature swings we encounter, roughly -30 degrees to +120 degrees. If the Earth were any further away from the sun, we would all freeze. Any closer and we would burn up. Even a fractional variance in the Earth’s position to the sun would make life on Earth impossible. The Earth remains this perfect distance from the sun while it rotates around the sun at a speed of nearly 67,000 mph. It is also rotating on its axis, allowing the entire surface of the Earth to be properly warmed and cooled every day.

And our moon is the perfect size and distance from the Earth for its gravitational pull. The moon creates important ocean tides and movement so ocean waters do not stagnate, and yet our massive oceans are restrained from spilling over across the continents.4

Water…colorless, odorless and without taste, and yet no living thing can survive without it. Plants, animals and human beings consist mostly of water (about two-thirds of the human body is water). You’ll see why the characteristics of water are uniquely suited to life:

It has an unusually high boiling point and freezing point. Water allows us to live in an environment of fluctuating temperature changes, while keeping our bodies a steady 98.6 degrees.

Water is a universal solvent. This property of water means that thousands of chemicals, minerals and nutrients can be carried throughout our bodies and into the smallest blood vessels.5

Water is also chemically neutral. Without affecting the makeup of the substances it carries, water enables food, medicines and minerals to be absorbed and used by the body.

Water has a unique surface tension. Water in plants can therefore flow upward against gravity, bringing life-giving water and nutrients to the top of even the tallest trees.

Water freezes from the top down and floats, so fish can live in the winter.

Ninety-seven percent of the Earth’s water is in the oceans. But on our Earth, there is a system designed which removes salt from the water and then distributes that water throughout the globe. Evaporation takes the ocean waters, leaving the salt, and forms clouds which are easily moved by the wind to disperse water over the land, for vegetation, animals and people. It is a system of purification and supply that sustains life on this planet, a system of recycled and reused water.6

The human brain…simultaneously processes an amazing amount of information. Your brain takes in all the colors and objects you see, the temperature around you, the pressure of your feet against the floor, the sounds around you, the dryness of your mouth, even the texture of your keyboard. Your brain holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and memories. At the same time your brain keeps track of the ongoing functions of your body like your breathing pattern, eyelid movement, hunger and movement of the muscles in your hands.

The human brain processes more than a million messages a second.7 Your brain weighs the importance of all this data, filtering out the relatively unimportant. This screening function is what allows you to focus and operate effectively in your world. A brain that deals with more than a million pieces of information every second, while evaluating its importance and allowing you to act on the most pertinent information… did it come about just by chance? Was it merely biological causes, perfectly forming the right tissue, blood flow, neurons, structure? The brain functions differently than other organs. There is an intelligence to it, the ability to reason, to produce feelings, to dream and plan, to take action, and relate to other people. How does one explain the human brain?

The eye…can distinguish among seven million colors. It has automatic focusing and handles an astounding 1.5 million messages — simultaneously.8 Evolution focuses on mutations and changes from and within existing organisms. Yet evolution alone does not fully explain the initial source of the eye or the brain — the start of living organisms from nonliving matter.

2. The universe had a start – what caused it?

Scientists are convinced that our universe began with one enormous explosion of energy and light, which we now call the Big Bang. This was the singular start to everything that exists: the beginning of the universe, the start of space, and even the initial start of time itself.

Astrophysicist Robert Jastrow, a self-described agnostic, stated, “The seed of everything that has happened in the Universe was planted in that first instant; every star, every planet and every living creature in the Universe came into being as a result of events that were set in motion in the moment of the cosmic explosion…The Universe flashed into being, and we cannot find out what caused that to happen.”9

Steven Weinberg, a Nobel laureate in Physics, said at the moment of this explosion, “the universe was about a hundred thousands million degrees Centigrade…and the universe was filled with light.”10

The universe has not always existed. It had a start…what caused that? Scientists have no explanation for the sudden explosion of light and matter.

3. The universe operates by uniform laws of nature. Why does it?

Much of life may seem uncertain, but look at what we can count on day after day: gravity remains consistent, a hot cup of coffee left on a counter will get cold, the earth rotates in the same 24 hours, and the speed of light doesn’t change — on earth or in galaxies far from us.

How is it that we can identify laws of nature that never change? Why is the universe so orderly, so reliable?

“The greatest scientists have been struck by how strange this is. There is no logical necessity for a universe that obeys rules, let alone one that abides by the rules of mathematics. This astonishment springs from the recognition that the universe doesn’t have to behave this way. It is easy to imagine a universe in which conditions change unpredictably from instant to instant, or even a universe in which things pop in and out of existence.”11

Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize winner for quantum electrodynamics, said, “Why nature is mathematical is a mystery…The fact that there are rules at all is a kind of miracle.”12

4. The DNA code informs, programs a cell’s behavior.

All instruction, all teaching, all training comes with intent. Someone who writes an instruction manual does so with purpose. Did you know that in every cell of our bodies there exists a very detailed instruction code, much like a miniature computer program? As you may know, a computer program is made up of ones and zeros, like this: 110010101011000. The way they are arranged tell the computer program what to do. The DNA code in each of our cells is very similar. It’s made up of four chemicals that scientists abbreviate as A, T, G, and C. These are arranged in the human cell like this: CGTGTGACTCGCTCCTGAT and so on. There are three billion of these letters in every human cell!!

Well, just like you can program your phone to beep for specific reasons, DNA instructs the cell. DNA is a three-billion-lettered program telling the cell to act in a certain way. It is a full instruction manual.13

existence of God – Why is this so amazing? One has to ask….how did this information program wind up in each human cell? These are not just chemicals. These are chemicals that instruct, that code in a very detailed way exactly how the person’s body should develop.

Natural, biological causes are completely lacking as an explanation when programmed information is involved. You cannot find instruction, precise information like this, without someone intentionally constructing it.

5. We know God exists because he pursues us. He is constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to him.

I was an atheist at one time. And like many atheists, the issue of people believing in God bothered me greatly. What is it about atheists that we would spend so much time, attention, and energy refuting something that we don’t believe even exists?! What causes us to do that? When I was an atheist, I attributed my intentions as caring for those poor, delusional people…to help them realize their hope was completely ill-founded. To be honest, I also had another motive. As I challenged those who believed in God, I was deeply curious to see if they could convince me otherwise. Part of my quest was to become free from the question of God. If I could conclusively prove to believers that they were wrong, then the issue is off the table, and I would be free to go about my life.

I didn’t realize that the reason the topic of God weighed so heavily on my mind, was because God was pressing the issue. I have come to find out that God wants to be known. He created us with the intention that we would know him. He has surrounded us with evidence of himself and he keeps the question of his existence squarely before us. It was as if I couldn’t escape thinking about the possibility of God. In fact, the day I chose to acknowledge God’s existence, my prayer began with, “Ok, you win…” It might be that the underlying reason atheists are bothered by people believing in God is because God is actively pursuing them.

I am not the only one who has experienced this. Malcolm Muggeridge, socialist and philosophical author, wrote, “I had a notion that somehow, besides questing, I was being pursued.” C.S. Lewis said he remembered, “…night after night, feeling whenever my mind lifted even for a second from my work, the steady, unrelenting approach of Him whom I so earnestly desired not to meet. I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all of England.”

Lewis went on to write a book titled, “Surprised by Joy” as a result of knowing God. I too had no expectations other than rightfully admitting God’s existence. Yet over the following several months, I became amazed by his love for me.

6. Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God revealing himself to us.

Why Jesus? Look throughout the major world religions and you’ll find that Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius and Moses all identified themselves as teachers or prophets. None of them ever claimed to be equal to God. Surprisingly, Jesus did. That is what sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God exists and you’re looking at him. Though he talked about his Father in heaven, it was not from the position of separation, but of very close union, unique to all humankind. Jesus said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed in him, believed in the Father.

He said, “I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”14 He claimed attributes belonging only to God: to be able to forgive people of their sin, free them from habits of sin, give people a more abundant life and give them eternal life in heaven. Unlike other teachers who focused people on their words, Jesus pointed people to himself. He did not say, “follow my words and you will find truth.” He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me.”15

What proof did Jesus give for claiming to be divine? He did what people can’t do. Jesus performed miracles. He healed people…blind, crippled, deaf, even raised a couple of people from the dead. He had power over objects…created food out of thin air, enough to feed crowds of several thousand people. He performed miracles over nature…walked on top of a lake, commanding a raging storm to stop for some friends. People everywhere followed Jesus, because he constantly met their needs, doing the miraculous. He said if you do not want to believe what I’m telling you, you should at least believe in me based on the miracles you’re seeing.16

Jesus Christ showed God to be gentle, loving, aware of our self-centeredness and shortcomings, yet deeply wanting a relationship with us. Jesus revealed that although God views us as sinners, worthy of his punishment, his love for us ruled and God came up with a different plan. God himself took on the form of man and accepted the punishment for our sin on our behalf. Sounds ludicrous? Perhaps, but many loving fathers would gladly trade places with their child in a cancer ward if they could. The Bible says that the reason we would love God is because he first loved us.

Jesus died in our place so we could be forgiven. Of all the religions known to humanity, only through Jesus will you see God reaching toward humanity, providing a way for us to have a relationship with him. Jesus proves a divine heart of love, meeting our needs, drawing us to himself. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, he offers us a new life today. We can be forgiven, fully accepted by God and genuinely loved by God. He says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”17 This is God, in action.

Does God exist? If you want to know, investigate Jesus Christ. We’re told that “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”18

God does not force us to believe in him, though he could. Instead, he has provided sufficient proof of his existence for us to willingly respond to him. The earth’s perfect distance from the sun, the unique chemical properties of water, the human brain, DNA, the number of people who attest to knowing God, the gnawing in our hearts and minds to determine if God is there, the willingness for God to be known through Jesus Christ. If you need to know more about Jesus and reasons to believe in him, please see: Beyond Blind Faith.

If you want to begin a relationship with God now, you can.

This is your decision, no coercion here. But if you want to be forgiven by God and come into a relationship with him, you can do so right now by asking him to forgive you and come into your life. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door [of your heart] and knock. He who hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him [or her].”19 If you want to do this, but aren’t sure how to put it into words, this may help: “Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins. You know my life and that I need to be forgiven. I ask you to forgive me right now and come into my life. I want to know you in a real way. Come into my life now. Thank you that you wanted a relationship with me. Amen.”

God views your relationship with him as permanent. Referring to all those who believe in him, Jesus Christ said of us, “I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.”20

Looking at all these facts, one can conclude that a loving God does exist and can be known in an intimate, personal way. Are you planning to raise some swans in your garden pond? In getting started, it is helpful to know first the basic details about swans so you can effectively raise and breed them successfully. For first time breeders or swan raisers, the food that swans mostly eat is a mystery for them. Some people are thinking that they feed on formulated feeds just like chickens and other birds. Actually, they are generally herbivorous, but there are some species that also eat insects and small aquatic animals. Being familiar with what do swans eat is crucial especially for people who plans to raise them in an artificial or man-made environment, as their usual foods are not naturally occurring.

This is the intriguing part about what do swans eat; at first people thought that swans are purely herbivorous but as time passes by, it was discovered that swans also feed on small insects.

• Small Aquatic Animals – this includes shrimps, small fishes and other small aquatic animals. These aquatic animals are eaten by fully mature swans living in a natural pond or lake.

• Grains and Vegetables – this is the usual food for domesticated swans, especially those that are raised on farms. Swans on captivity feed on corns and other grains as well as on left over vegetable scraps.

How to Sing Metal

Head-banging, screaming, shouting, grunting and sometimes inaudible lyrics are often descriptions which are assigned, perhaps somewhat unfairly, to the genre of heavy metal music.

But the artists who front these metal bands are usually as accomplished singers as someone who will appear on stage and sing rock, blues or Opera. It is just a different end product, different skills and the fact that metal keeps going strong and is much loved, is a testament to its ability to touch people.

People continuously want to know how to sing metal too, and there is more skill than may be apparent to the untrained ear. To emulate your favourite metal singer, and the likelihood is that you will already have learned all the lyrics and have a good feeling for the kind of vocals that you want to achieve, will actually involve learning the fundamentals of singing properly.

Lessons will help immensely in order to understand how to breathe properly, how to care for your larynx and other important muscles, to discovering how to get the best sounds from right down in your diaphragm, to how important good posture is.

Once those fundamentals have been taken on board and you are comfortable singing within your natural vocal range, that is the point where you can start taking on the traits of those you admire, but remembering to adapt what they offer in order to put your own unique stamp and identity upon your performances.

Being able to sing in your natural voice, but in the same style as your idols, may afford a better performance, for straining too hard to sound like someone else can impair performance.

But once you have found your level and skills of how to sing metal, then you can start to bring the favoured traits of the genre to your performances. With good breathing, the screams, the wails and guttural growls can all sound natural and not cause any damage to those all important vocal chords.
