Another important trait inherited from those wild cats surrounds territory and how they interact with other cats.

Cats are mostly solitary hunters and therefore, their territory is theirs to hunt across. It need to be defended to ensure they have enough food to live. Therefore, they mark their territories to warn off other cats and show the boundaries of their land. Cats don’t like to fight each other, despite how it sounds outside the window in the middle of the night. The marking of the territory acts like a warning sign to other cats. But this sign is sometimes ignored.

The den

At the heart of the territory is the den, a core area where they will sleep, eat and spend time with a mate. This is the part of the territory that the cat defends most vehemently and incursion into this will result in a battle. In the domesticated cat, this could be their house or even a specific part of it. If another cat or animal enters this core area, this may evoke a strong reaction from the cat.

Neutral ground

In the wild, cats often have areas that are like neutral ground. This is where they can meet with other cats and interact with them. In the home, this might be where shared food and water bowls are placed and even a cat litter box. Anyone not welcome on this neutral territory will be hissed, growled and spat at until they leave it.


Feral domestic cats can sometimes form into colonies to help survive. This is often when there is a single or a few food sources in a small area and a single cat couldn’t hold off the rivals or even eat everything there. For this reason, the cats occupy the area together and don’t treat it like their territory, more like neutral ground. There is less of the hierarchy in these groups than is seen in dogs. This is because cats aren’t pack animals but can choose to live together.

This colony mentality can happen when cats live together in a house. They may realise that it is best to work together and tolerate each other, though perhaps being ‘best friends’ with the others of the colony may never happen.


While cats don’t naturally ‘need’ to have companionship, they can enjoy it and easily tolerate it, particularly if they have grown up with the other animals. Some cats will remain affectionate with each other, with females sometimes retaining the mother role. Others may simply tolerate each other and have little to do with each other.

Fitness – Exercise is also essential to being healthy increasing your fitness level. In addition to becoming physically fit, exercise can increase self-esteem and improve your mood. During exercising the body produces endorphins. Endorphins are natural chemicals the body can produce that are associated with feelings of euphoria and peace. If you are new to exercise, it is important to start out slow. Start by walking ten minutes a day. Park your car in the parking lot furthest from the building and take the stairs instead of using an elevator when possible.

They are several different ways and techniques that can be used to achieve physical fitness, but it starts with you. Find what works best for you and stick with it. Just remember; Mind, body, and lifestyle must be in sync to consistently maintain weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

Retail Banking – A New Way For Customer Service

With the Independent Commission on UK Banking recently issuing its long awaited report on the state of our current banking landscape, the opportunities contained within it to improve retail banking customer service have been seemingly ‘lost in the noise’ – with our government apparently wanting to deflect attention by kicking it into the long grass.

But there is no escaping headline issues that emerged from the final report of Sir John Vickers and colleagues, namely how do we cope with banks that are too big to fail and how do we stop the risk of speculative investment banking toxifying retail accounts?

Retail UK banking, in contrast to investment banking, should be a simple business in which the bank takes our savings, marks them up and lends them to others, or vice versa. But this simple process has become an unwieldy beast with almost everyone you talk to having a retail bank atrocity story.

A recently conducted study of 1,000 nationally representative retail bank customers, with almost 70% believing that banks don’t care very much about what the public think of them, over 75% rating the public image and reputation of the banks’ retail operations as mediocre to dreadful, and an eye-watering 86% thinking that the image and reputation of the banks will not improve or will actually decline over the next six months.

Two influences, linked but not identical, seem to be at work. The first factor is the momentum towards online banking and the spotlight that puts on the slow and ponderous ‘old way’ of doing things. Ask yourself which is preferable – accessing a bank account from the train, your own home or an office, or trudging round to the bank in the rain and joining a queue? Older customers feel less habituated to the online world but the young customers ‘voting with their feet’ adds considerable impetus to this inevitable online momentum.

Thirty years ago a very senior UK bank official remarked in an unguarded moment that High Street banking was hopelessly and irredeemably uneconomic – and nothing that’s happened in the intervening years has made that judgment less telling.

The cost of maintaining a local branch network has become a dead weight hung from the necks of banks. If bearing this burden produced contented customers there might be something to be said for it, but it simply fails to do so. Branch managers have largely been deprived of the power to make decisions on loans, thereby further reducing the reasons to bother visiting the branch. When did you last do so? First Direct has responded to this economic reality with the intelligent stratagem of not having any branches. Yet how have other banks responded?

The second factor is the way retail bank brands are built, maintained and developed. Various studies show that marketing slogans, for example, have very low recognition amongst the public and the only one that had any genuine customer awareness was HSBC’s ‘the World’s Local Bank.’ This slogan was launched in March 2002, showing that it takes a long time and costs a great deal of money to get any sort of traction and make an impact.

The customers now pay more attention to the testimony of other customers than they do to promotional campaigns, with enthusiastic customers and ‘brand ambassadors’ being the market builders of the future.

A new business model is consequently required for retail UK banking. The old business model was bank-centric where the bank saw itself as a central resource and the customer could approach the bank and humbly inquire whether any of its supplier-defined services met the customer’s needs. Motivated by incentives, bank staff tried to convince customers that products like Payment Protection Insurance met genuine needs. So much for ‘Customer Service’.

There is a clear demand for a customer-centric business model, but few banks appear to be working effectively to meet this demand. When used properly, ‘new media’ can create genuine conversations with their customers and, as that famous book ‘The Cluetrain Manifesto’ puts it, “the market becomes a conversation”.

Instead of their services being defined by what the bank wants to offer, they can be defined by what the customers need. The ‘bank to customer’ polarity is reversed and the customer becomes the market-maker of the future.

It all comes down to the culture of the banks themselves. In today’s globalised and commoditised world there is always ‘choice’ but retail banks have sidestepped this evolution because of customer inertia. The general perception is that it is simply too much hassle to change your bank account – and if you do then the next bank you move to will be no better.

This has resulted in a culture of complacency amongst UK banks. They’ve been too big and too powerful for too long to worry too much what the customer ACTUALLY thinks. But this will change.

There are new competitors like Metro Bank, dedicated to a customer-centric model, that are changing the game and there is little doubt that the tipping point will come soon.

The bank that will win this battle will be the one that changes its culture towards the agile, customer service centric ethos that is winning out in different sectors and industries across the world.

Of course this conversion is not going to be easy for the big banks to achieve. At board level the banks are often aware of what’s happening and what’s needed. But layers of die-hard middle management are convinced that the old bank-centric model has enough life left to see out their careers. One major UK bank told us that they already have a team working on customer conversations, and that our research was a day late and a dollar short. But one look at the detailed reports from their customers shows their efforts may be costly but are simply not working. Bank customers are keen – perhaps even desperate – to enunciate their real needs, provided the banks are ready to listen and respond.

Now that the Independent Commission on UK Banking has issued its final report there is a window of opportunity in bank customer service for those senior managers in retail banking who are savvy enough to see it. The question that needs to be answered is will it encourage the banks to hold meaningful conversations with that 86 percent of customers who think the reputation of the banks will fail to improve any time soon? Let’s hope so.

Hemroids, Hemorrhoids, Haemorrhoids or Piles – One And The Same Symptoms

Hemroids (misspelling), hemorrhoids (US spelling) and haemorrhoids (UK spelling) are the same sickness, all being words derived from haimorrhoos which means flowing with blood in Greek. Piles (probably derived from pila or ball in Latin) is the common name for hemroids. “The common people call them piles, the aristocracy call them haemorrhoids, the French call them figs – what does it matter so long as you can cure them?” said Ardene, a 14th century English surgeon.

Before moving on to other symptoms of hemroids, we need to know the differing medical words that define a line demarcating the boundary of the rectum and the start of the anal canal. Known variously as the pectinate line or dentate line or anal verge or anorectal junction, this line separates internal (in the rectum) and external (on the anus) hemroids. The differentiation that is more important to the hemroid sufferer is that there are somewhat fewer pain nerve endings above the line, verge or junction and a great number outside the boundary. In comparison, therefore, external hemroids may result in excruciating pain whilst internal hemroids may be painless. This pain element affects the decision-making when selecting between mainstream or alternative treatment methods.

Symptoms Of Internal Hemroids

The most typical symptom of internal hemroids is rectal bleeding, also known as bowel movement bleeding or blood in stool. Toilet tissue may be stained red, stools be interspersed with blood droplets and the toilet bowl be coloured red.

Another distinct symptom is the bulging movement of the internal hemroid during bowel motion. Medical researchers classify bulging internal hemroids according to 4 stages of prolapse or protrusion:

– a first-degree hemroid bulges into the anal canal;

– a 3rd degree hemroid bulges from the anus and must be physically tucked back in;
– a fourth-degree internal hemroid bulges out from the anus permanently.

Internal hemroids are normally not painful as they occur above the pectinate line but large ones that prolapse into the anus may be squeezed by the anal sphincter muscles. In the extreme, they become strangulated hemroids (deprived of blood supply) that require urgent medical treatment as the adjoining tissues may be imperilled.

The agonizing urge to return to the toilet bowl right after stools have just been purged, anal lumps, rectal lumps and skin itches are other common symptoms of internal hemroids. The feeling of unfinished defecation is enhanced in cases where the hemroid is extremely large and in the proximity of the anal opening.

Symptoms Of Hemroids – External

One clear differentiation between external and internal hemroids is that anal pain is more acute in the former as they arise outside the dentate line on the anal region where pain nerve ends abound.

Blood clots or thrombuses tends to occur with external hemroids resulting in the body’s blood circulatory system being retarded. This thrombosed hemroid can cause detrimental inflammation in the whole anal and rectal regions.

Unlike internal hemroids which can often go undetected due to the lack of overt symptoms, external hemroids can create persistent irritation. Cleaning the anal region is understandable but doing this excessively only inflames the hemroid and sets up a vicious continual cycle.

There are over 1,000 studies currently published on the nutrient Fucoidan, 128 show how it helps with Cancer, and 18 of those are specific for Breast Cancer. Fucoidans are fucose-enriched sulfated polysaccharides found in some brown sea vegetables, brown algea and marine invertibrates. Fucoidan seems to support every organ and cell function in our bodies, and therefore, scientists are studying it for many different ailments. There have been remarkable results from the cancer specific studies, including improving chemo efficacy.

The most recent study available, published October 2013, showed that fucoidan induced G1 phase arrest and even caused apoptosis. In other words, fucoidan stopped the cancer from progressing and triggered the death of the cancer cells. The study showed that ROS productions was increased, which suggested that fucoidan induced oxidative damage in MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells. (1)

In a study from January 2013, it was shown that fucoidan improved chemo efficacy in destroying breast cancer cells. What’s interesting to me about that, is that we learn we don’t need to choose an entirely holistic treatment regimen OR an entirely traditional treatment route. There are nutrients that help make traditional methods of treatment even more effective. (2)

I’ve sited only 2 of the 18 fucoidan for breast cancer specific studies available on pubmed.gov. I highly recommend reading through the others to see just how effective fucoidan is for cancer treatment. In fact, according to the clinical results from Dr. Akira, MotoKuniribkushu Cancer Center in Japan, 78% of his breast cancer patients experienced a 50-100% reduction in cancer cells from using fucoidan.

In my experience using fucoidan for breast cancer, I was able to reduce the size of my tumor from 8 cm to 7 cm over the course of 2 months. I had a mastectomy at the end of that period so I wasn’t able to continue monitoring the size of the mass. I continue to take fucoidan every day and no new cancer has developed.

My Dad passed away from metastatic melanoma in 2009. The moment I was diagnosed with breast cancer early in 2013 I started feverishly researching supplements I could take to help me win my fight. Golden Rule Number Three: Don’t try and sell cold to people living in the arctic. If you’re going to be in business, it would probably work out well for you to give people what they are asking for, not what you think they should have.

Golden Rule Number Four: Build your business out of stone brick and mortar, not straw. Simply put, if your foundation is weak, then there is a great chance that your business will go down in flames faster than you could ever imagine. Trust me when I tell you this, because I know from personal experience.

Golden Rule Number Five: You will need to learn and then live by this old saying that my oldest brother, Clarence Jr. taught me when I was in my teens and I wanted to start my first business. ” Feed the classes eat with the masses, feed the masses eat with the classes”. The simple translation of this is, provide a service or product to just a few people then you will never really get ahead in life financially. But if you provide a service or product to thousands and thousands of people, your financial well-being is almost assured.

Golden Rule Number Six: Find your passion and you will find your business. Simply put, you can make a living at almost anything, but the key is to find what is it about what you are doing that you like and make that your focal point and your passion. Then everything else becomes less distasteful to you.

Golden Rule Number Seven: This one I learned from the great Zig Ziggler. FEAR is nothing more than an acronym for “False Evidence Appearing Real.” The funny thing about fear is that 99% of the time we really don’t have anything concrete to base it on, but we still allow it to consume us and keep us from success in your personal and business lives. So how do we beat FEAR? By simply taking a deep breath, and then exhaling, and doing whatever it was that we needed to do over and over again until it is a habit. Then FEAR can no longer take space within that space or action.

Golden Rule Number Eight: “Every Thing Has Its Season” Learn this little nugget of truth that my mother told me after I had to close the doors of my most successful business back in 2002 that I built from nothing and ran for 9 very good and profitable years. The marketplace no longer had a need for pager stores. The lesson that we should take from her saying is this. Do not be a one trick pony. After you have mastered the first thing and it runs itself, move to the next thing and master it.

Golden Rule Number Nine: Everything begins with marketing. So learn and use it.

Why Sit Here Until I Die?

The bible tells a story about four men who sat at the entrance of the city's gate ding with leprosy, an incurable disease which causes seemingly visible swelling and sores on the skin, only then to eat inward to the bones. Because of this contagious and incurable disease, these lepers sat outside of the city because they were not allowed to live within the city. These men were faced with a fatal disease, were outcasts, and were starving because of a feminine in the land. Such a hopeless life and no perceived future, would make the average person throw in the towel and just give up on life – but not these men.

Sitting and examining their situation, they realized that just simply sitting and doing nothing would result in having and being nothing, so they asked them the question, "Why do we sit here until we die?" They knew that if they entered the city, they would die because of the feminine. They also knew that if they sat there and did nothing, that they would die. What did they do? They made the decision to ACT.

Regardless of their gloomy circumstance, they got up from were they were and decided to do something to change their situation. They made the choice to face their obstacles and do something different. They went into the city realizing that difficulties may be ahead, for if the city dwellers spared their lives, they would live – and if not, they would die. Given the situation that they were in, things were not going to just get better.

Upon entering the city, to their pleasant surprise, no one was there, because God had caused the city dwellers to abandon their tents.

Because of their decision to change their situation, and the decision to act, these hungry dying men when into a tent, and feasted as they ate, drank, and carried off silver, gold, and clothing. However, things did not end there, because after putting away the silver, gold, and clothing – they entered another tent and again met great fortune.

Just like these lepers, you may be in your decision place today. If you are in a place, or situation that seems lifeless – regardless of where that place may be, or how things look – ask yourself the question, "Why do I sit here until I die?"

Take a good look at where you are, and where you want to be – then take the necessary steps to find yourself in that desired place.

In the mid of misfortune, choice – and then action – will find you reaping the great benefits that God has purposed for your life.

Do You Believe You Bring Nothing Special to the World? Think Again!

As with so many other weight loss clients, I have an individual who has an issue, which seems to be a growing epidemic in our society today. Her self-esteem is at an all-time low. She feels as if she "just exists in this world." She says, "There's nothing special about me. I have nothing to offer."

This type of thinking is not conducive to achieving or maintaining one's weight loss. In fact, it is poisonous. I asked her to describe the way she lived her life every day. Moreover, through her life, what she thought her passions were and how she felt she contributed to humanity.

She paused and thought twice about her previous statements. She began to realize that although she might be feeling down at this particular date and time, everything she does creates something that contributes, even in some small way, to the world around her.

It is my belief that every one of us is on this earth for a reason. No matter what your spiritual belief, it is important to remember that we each bring talents, individuality and values ​​that strengthen our society. However, without we acknowledge ourselves with these blessings, we will continue on a downward spiral of perpetual, negative self-talk. This negative self-talk will continue to sabotage our self-esteem, and in turn, our ability to maintain our new healthy bodies.

We all have heard the quote, "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty ." After reflecting on the meaning, most of us get a warm and fuzzy feeling. More importantly, if we put these simple gestures into practice, they can bring a significant positive change, not only to humankind, but also within ourselves. These positive changes towards others can redirect our energies into making the right choices for ourselves.

Welcome to the beginning of the new "you"! Think about it. What would it feel like to challenge yourself to smile at every single person you come across today? Consider how you could brighten up this world with just this small gesture of kindness. Think of how rewarding it would feel to bring this small gift to so many people, not to mention, how you are bringing light within yourself.

I would like you to take two minutes to think about something that happens in your everyday life. How it not only affects others, but also honors you. Consider all of the people around you – your significant other, your kids, your neighbors, your business collections, your fellow congregation, etc.

Remember that you have the opportunity to move mountains with one single action. You can make the simple gesture to sit down and listen to a friend or open the door for someone at a store. Another option might be to give some attention to your child who just came home from school and ask them what happened during their day.

Our society moves so fast. In fact, so fast that we forget to stop and think about our gift of life – that we live on this earth together. We have the choice to live our days with gratitude for the life around us or we can become so entrenched with our cell phones, iPods, and computers, that we forget the gifts of camaraderie.

For so long we have felt so badly about ourselves physically, that practicing these actions will create a better sense of self and in turn will increase our overall well-being. Simply, building self-esteem through these positive habits helps us make smarter choices resulting in more effective weight loss for ourselves.

Now, think about what you might be taking for granted right now. Are there those little gestures of kindness that you could be giving the world, which may make your life more special? How could these gestures make you feel better about "you" and even more determined to take good care of yourself emotionally?

Ponder the thought that what you put out in the world, comes back to you "ten fold".

Imagine if everyday, you implemented a little bit of kindness into your world. I am confident that it will turn your day around, not to mention your life. However, it is up to you to make the conscious shift to this new pattern on a daily basis.

Rowing to Music – A Fun New and Effective Fitness Training

Physical training in indoor rowing machines have been popular in many rowing clubs. A new and motivating training form is to use training programs with rowing adapted music. In this article we will look at how to:

  1. Select music suitable for rowing training
  2. Get free tools for audio editing
  3. Adapt music to your rowing training programs
  4. Motivate and inspire your rowing club friends

The goal is to give you an understanding of how to make your very own rowing training programs with music of your personal taste. It is a fun and rewarding experience.

Energetic music with a clear and constant rhythm is perfect for your rowing program

Browse through your music library to find your favorite music that sounds energetic and motivating. Make a folder for the music on your computer and place copies of the music in it. A selection of slow, medium pace and fast music is needed. Ideally you should have about 10-20 songs of each pace.

We will only use music in 4/4 rhythm. To sort the songs pace you need to count the beats per minute (BPM) in the music rhythm. Music with a BPM within the range of 80 to 128 is suitable. On the internet you can find free software that can auto detect the BPM of your music. But the best and most accurate way is to count the BPM manually.

When training in a rowing machine we talk of rowing pace = strokes per minute. Therefore we divide the musics BPM by 4 to find which rowing pace (strokes per minute – SPM) the music rhythm equals. Add the SPM as a note to songs titles.

You can use a standard stopwatch to measure the BPM and divide it by 4 to get the SPM. There is a special stopwatch model called DIGI DT-320 which in a special mode can read out SPM directly, so you only need to push start and stop. Start the stopwatch when you start counting beats 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4 and then stop the watch when reaching the following beat 1. Next step is to edit the music.

Audacity is a free software tool for editing your music

Audacity can freely be downloaded from the Internet. There are versions for both PC, Mac and Linux. There is documentation for the software. Another nice source for learning Audacity is to look for tutorials on YouTube. Audacity offers many advanced features, but we only need a few simple functions for our purpose.

You only need to learn how to:

  1. Import your music into Audacity
  2. Cut away unneeded parts of the song
  3. Fadeout the last 2-3 seconds of the used part of the song
  4. Connect the songs on the timeline
  5. Export the edited songs as a new single music track (the final rowing music program)

The learning curve for using Audacity this way is reasonable short when using YouTube tutorials. Next step is to decide how you will build up your rowing program.

How to build your rowing training program with SPM and time intervals

A classic rowing program would consist of 24 SPM for 3 minutes then 26 SPM for 3 minutes and then 28 SPM for 2 minutes. This program equals approx. a standard 2,000 meter. You can mix the training music programs according to your personal training style and preference. The key to success is to use music that is easy to follow in rhythm. By counting the beats 1-2-3-4 you should end your rowing stroke at beat 1 and begin a new stroke at beat 3.

It is very important that the participating training partners rows synchronously according to the music beats. After a little practice you will find it easy, fun and very rewarding to exercise with music this way. Paces below 24 SPM and over 28 SPM are bit more demanding to follow for less experienced rowers. Remember to praise your training partners for their efforts. Training to rowing adapted music is growing very popular, because it is a lot more fun to train hard to good music. Have fun!

Awareness Check Point – Where Do You Live?

Envision this: Peace, wellness, freedom, trust, reception, gratitude, abundance, joy, blessings, energy, confidence, authenticity, giving, allowing, connection, passion, openness, creativity, bliss, love, courage, prosperity, self acceptance.
(Feels pretty good, yes?)

Now go here: (but not for long) Worry, doubt, fear, angst, hopelessness, blame, scarcity, grasping, anxiety, ego, sickness, victim hood, addiction, obsession, panic, resentment, grief, revenge, depression, lack , Shame, suffering, despair.

(A definite case of the icky icks and you now need a shower.)

Did you feel the vast contrast of both of those places? All right, so now it's truth time. Which of these places do you hang out in the most? If you do not live in the best feeling places often, then why not? What's stopping you from doing so? If you're interested in reconnecting to the abundant wellspring of power that lies inside, then this is your Divine appointment to get started. The life you've been craving is patiently waiting for you to say Yes let's venture on the light already!

Take a minute and ask yourself if you think it's really possible to take up a permanent … or at least a consistent … residence at this Divine Address of feeling good. Underneath all of the repetitive ego banter, does your heart KNOW that you deserve to feel good, and often, at that? A simple request … be gentle with yourself and your findings and know that you are expanding your consciousness in this very moment. Know that your answers are completely INFORMATION. All of this inquiry is part of your shift that's happening right now.

Feeling good IS your natural state and your glorious birthright! Notice if the thought of that TRUTH scares you or excites you. You are safe to delve deep here. In fact, you are encouraged to eavesdrop into your very soul and notice your internal conversations. For only you know the answers and they are to be blessed, for they are leading you to your expansion right now.

The objective here is to determine what areas you take up residence in the most, so you can now declare where you'd like to end up. You have to know where you are before you map out the journey towards your final destination, do not you? Just ask any GPS. The good news is that you have been directed to this point, and you can breathe easy now and know you are well on your vibrant way.

If you are suspecting or even knowing that your daily pattern is to act from the not so positive emotions, relax. This is not a time for beating yourself up. Resist going there and feeding that pattern. If you do vibrate in these darker places often, it's probably safe to say that you are most likely curious about how to live in the better feeling places.

Do you already live your life from the higher spectrum of emotions? If so, you are our inspiration and our role models and we need you. We bless you, revere you and desire to learn from your being! Thank you for teaching us by example that this ever-present good feeling reality is possible. You are lighting the way for us all.

The bottom line is this: You have CHOICE.

To accept your invitation to your new reality:

1. Become aware of where you are.

2. Check in to see if this is where you want to be.

3. If you warn to shift to a different place, then CHOOSE it.


Just reach for a thought that feels a little bit better, and your life will change. A little bit better … a little bit better … a little bit better … and before you know it, you have reached your own personal state of feeling good.

And That is a very savory moment.

And now you have officially entered – Heaven on earth.

Estimating Profitability of a Franchise Opportunity

In the UK there are many franchising opportunities being offered for sale.  For people who would like to manage their own business franchising can be an attractive option.  People buying a franchise will obviously want to be sure that they are investing in a profitable business.  Although buyers can never know exact figures, with work they can make accurate estimates on the likely profitability of the business.  Evaluating a franchise to see if it will be profitable enough to make a viable business can be done through a number of stages.

Purchase Price

Every franchise will require its franchisees to pay an initial fee.  This fee is the starting point for the franchise agreement.  The size of the fee will vary substantially from franchise to franchise.  All potential buyers of a franchise first need to calculate how much they are able to invest and rule out franchises that are too expensive.
