Home Care For Dementia

Dementia refers to certain symptoms that extremely lead to loss of functions of the brain as a side effect of some physical or mental illness. A common misconception about dementia is that it is described wrongly as a disease. It actually consists of symptoms of a functional disorder and is not a disease in itself. Symptoms of dementia may lead to lack of abilities in certain areas such as problem solving, loss of memory and confusion. Dementia is often found in elderly people as a harmful side effect of some mental illness, such as Alzheimer's, and may reflect as an after-effect of a medical treatment. Symptoms of dementia may occur due to vitamin deficiencies, head trauma, or Parkinson's disease. Dementia is mostly incurable with some rare exceptional cases. It is definitely not an easy task to provide home care for Dementia going by the nature of Dementia and its various symptoms.

While providing home care for patients suffering from Dementia, special considerations are required. Frequent change in routines and turnover of staff providing home care can have adverse effects on Dementia patients. It is highly recommended to ensure minimum turnover of staff and changes in support procedures. Persons providing care for Dementia need to have special training for handling Dementia patients that can be acquired from various organizations dealing with Dementia care.

Diseases such as Alzheimer's and related symptoms of dementia are usually chronic; they can last for ten years or more after they are diagnosed. These symptoms may include paranoia, anxiety, aggression, or agitation, making persons difficult to handle while providing home care. Appropriate support and care is that required for patients as well as their families. Nature and intensity of care might again fluctuate as patients may go through different stages of effect of medication and treatment.

Most families have started forming self-help groups to provide mutual support, as it is difficult and emotionally draining to provide care to terminally ill patients. Professional help is always recommended despite the family remains the core of a home care system. Community programs also play a significant role in improving the service and providing support. Necessary Government approval is also an important requirement for providing professional care for Dementia patients at home.

Creative Ideas for Empty Perfume Bottles

After throwing away several perfume bottles I decided to come up with some ways that I could utilize them around my own home. As we all know, some perfume bottles can be plain to very orate. No matter how plain or fancy they are there can be another purpose found for them.

Here are some of my ideas:

Perfume bottles that have a small amount of fragrance left in them make great reed diffusers. Begin by removing the cap of the perfume bottle. Insert your reed diffusers, turning them over once to expose the perfume moistened reed to the air. The perfume will continue to wick up the diffuser reeds, scenting your room for several months. Turn diffuser reeds periodically to refresh scent.

Another use for perfume bottles with a small amount left in them is to once again remove the cap. Tie a fancy ribbon around the neck of the bottle and hang in your closet. Caution needs to be taken that the open bottle cannot be tipped and thus avoiding any spillage on your clothes. Keep in mind which fragrance you use as some perfumes are more powerful than others.

Have you ever searched your house for a small vase for that single rose or those few flowers that you picked from your garden only to find a vase that holds a whole bouquet? Take one of your empty perfume bottles, remove the cap, and thoroughly wash it out with soap. Add water and place your flowers in the bottle and set on any table. You now have a vase for a small bouquet of flowers.

Take several empty bottles and group them together on your vanity, a bookcase or end table. This is where some of the fancier bottles can make attractive display items. No more trips to the knick-knack shops looking for unique items to display. I find that my guests have copied this idea the most.

Remember the days when colored sand with popular? It still is. This is where the clear colored bottles are the best ones to use. Select your favorite colors or to match your rooms décor and fill the bottles with colored sand. Purchase small cork stoppers to prevent the spillage of sand, should the bottle be knocked over.

Hobby stores usually sell small colored plastic or glass beads, small seashells and other such items. These make great items to display in your empty bottles. You can even dress it up further by tying a colored ribbon around the top or when I am really creative I have added lace. The options are endless and make for great conversation pieces.

These ideas that I have shared with you not only have I done for my own enjoyment but have also shared with my family and friends. They are much more appreciative of something homemade and not the typical box store item. I hope this inspires you to get creative with your empty perfume bottles.

Is Cracking Your Back And Neck Safe?

Many people are concerned that cracking their backs and necks will lead to painful conditions like arthritis. Others consider cracking a normal part of maintenance; after all, chiropractors help people with back pain by cracking their backs with manipulation techniques. Is it safe to crack your back and neck?

The answer to this depends on the method and frequency of cracking. First, consider what happens when you crack a joint. The bones of the joint move apart, which creates a temporary vacuum (since more volume equals less pressure). Gases that have dissolved in the joint’s protective fluids undergo a reconstitution of sorts when volume decreases; the dissolved gases now form into bubbles. The pop you hear is the sound of these bubbles popping as pressure drops even lower.

Cracking the back and neck often feels good because it involves stretching joints, ligaments and muscles. If you hear your joints crack when you stretch, this is generally nothing to be concerned about. When cracking becomes excessive, such as when a person habitually and forcibly cracks his or her back and neck multiple times a day, hypermobility becomes a concern.

Hypermobility occurs when the ligaments surrounding a joint become overstretched. The ligaments fail to support the joint and the joint is susceptible to excess range of motion. Though cracking knuckles doesn’t cause arthritis, the extra wear and tear hypermobile spinal joints are subjected to can likely increase your risk of non-rheumatoid arthritis if you crack your spine habitually. Joints that crack regularly without much prompting may be a symptom of hypermobility.

Another problem that occurs with hypermobility is tight muscles. Muscles surrounding lax ligaments tense up to protect and support the area, compensating for the ligaments. This muscular tension increases your perceived need to crack your back and neck, and so the cycle continues.

Neck cracking comes with a unique risk: stroke. The vertebrobasiliar artery runs the length of the cervical spine and is most vulnerable at the top of the spine, where it loops into and out of the vertebra (C1). This artery provides nutrients and oxygen to parts of the brain that facilitate many functions, including vision, balance and consciousness. Cracking the neck forcibly changes the position of the vertebra and can condense the artery enough to cause a tear. Blood clots can pass along to the brain or block the flow of blood to it resulting in possible stroke and death. The risk is present for both self adjustments and chiropractic manipulations. See http://www.webmd.com/stroke/news/20030512/neck-cracking-raises-stroke-risk for more on this.

Is cracking your back and neck safe? Cracking that occurs when stretching is often safe, but if it happens with very little effort it may be a sign of hypermobility. Excessive intentional cracking may cause hypermobility of ligaments and joints coupled with tense muscles. Joint wear can accelerate if you crack your spine constantly. Finally, cracking your neck comes with a rare but serious risk of stroke. If you experience pain when cracking a joint, this could be the sign of a joint problem and deserves medical attention.

There are many myths surrounding back cracking. Keeping yourself informed will help you know which actions are healthy and which are harmful.

Diagnosis And Treatments Of Nails Diseases And Problems

Nails are parts of our body that are themselves colorless and transparent. They are situated at the fingers of our hands and legs. Nails are good reflectors of our health as well as our beauty. In a healthy condition the color of nails is the pink because of the vigorous blood under the nails. If you hardly press a nail, it appears milky because the blood under the nail is displaced.

Those who are living under stress or are going through anemia or are having some other disease, they donâ??t have pink nails. The color may be white or yellow. Spotless and smooth nails are a sign of good health and beauty.

Here, we are discussing about diagnosis of diseases and treatments of diseases related to nails. There may be various diseases related to this. Some of the diagnosis and treatments of diseases related to nails are explained here.

First of all we should do the diagnosis of diseases related to nails. Twisted or curved nails at the edges are a sign of lung or heart diseases. Anemia can cause twisted and curved nails. Crooked and twisted lump on the nail obstructs the growth of this. Generally, debility and ligamentary weakness is the main cause of it. Occasionally, a child may have fingers without nails from his birth. Such a child is generally bald by birth. Roughness and lack of smoothness of nails are signs of calcium deficiency. Lack of calcium leads to lose the brightness and impede the growth of nails to full size. If it will not grow, they will not be very soft and thin.

Now, we should talk about treatment of diseases related to nails. In case if your nails are detached from the skin, broken or torn, you should immerse your finger in warm mustard oil for about 10 minutes and then you should rub it or fingers smoothly so that blood circulation can be reinstated in them. If your nails are very weak then you should take food rich in calcium and milk in plenty. Milk is very beneficial in any disease related to nails. You should massage it with olive oil to make them strong and bright. If alum salt is mixed along with olive oil and regularly applied on this then the nails will not be brittle. You may also use coconut or turpentine oil as a treatment of any disease related to nail and for maintaining the natural strength and brightness of the nails.

Lemon is a best treatment of any type of disease related to nails. If it have problem in growing in the normal way, you should dip your finger in warm lemon water for approx 5 minutes, after that immediately put them in cold water. It will help in the growth of your nails. For making them beautiful and strong, you should apply lemon juice on the nails; you should clean the fingers, and massage them with lemon and should let them dry up. You may also use lemon for making them brighten. Squeeze the juice out of lemons and then rub it with the rind. It will help you to make the nails brighten.

Thus, in this article we have talked much about diagnosis and treatments of diseases related to nails.

Erectile Dysfunction and Nutrition – The Top 9 Super Foods Essential for Boosting Erections

Erectile Dysfunction affects millions of men around the world, and for many suffers, the problem is physiological. This is usually the result of an unhealthy lifestyle, and from conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The good news is that through lifestyle changes, the causes of erectile function can be reversed. One of the principal ways of doing this is through diet. This article suggests 10 super foods that are essential for maintaining optimum sexual health.

1. Lean red meat

The protein in lean red meat naturally boosts levels of dopamine, the brain chemical primarily responsible for enhancing sex drive, mood, alertness, and movement. Meat is also high in zinc, which boosts libido by reducing production of the hormone prolactin. (Too much prolactin acts to suppress production of testosterone).

2. Liver

Liver is a good source of glutamine, which is essential for your immune system to function. Liver may also increase a slowed-down libido. Ounce for ounce, liver is among the best sources of fertility-boosting vitamin A. Men who get plenty of vitamin A each day have higher sperm counts and perform better sexually than men who don’t.

3. Eggs

Egg yolks contain cholesterol, which are important building blocks for testosterone. Eating raw eggs is one of the most direct ways of increasing testosterone and ultimately enhancing the male libido. Eggs are also one of the most significant sources of vitamin A, which aids sperm count. Eggs are also high in vitamins B6 and B5. These vitamins help balance hormone levels and fight stress, two things that are crucial to a healthy libido.

4. Fish and Seafood

Raw oysters: Long regarded as an aphrodisiac, oysters are high in zinc, which raises sperm and testosterone production. Oysters also contain dopamine, which is known to increase libido.

Salmon, mackerel, trout and tuna: these oily fish are high in omega-3 essential fatty acids, which are essential for a health immune and circulatory system. The omega-3 fats found in salmon have a broad array of beneficial cardiovascular effects. Omega-3s assist against clotting of the arteries by improving the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol. Oily fish are also a rich source of selenium and zinc which are needed for peak sexual health.

5. Almonds

These nuts have an abundance of nutrients. They are a prime source of monounsaturated fats, which reduced the risk of heart disease, by acting to lower LDL (the bad cholesterol). They are also high in Vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant. Almonds are also a rich source of magnesium, which helps to improve the flow of blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

6. Peanuts (the best natural way to increase production of nitric oxide!)

Contrary to what their name implies, peanuts are not true nuts but a member of the legume family, and are related to peas, lentils, chickpeas and other beans. However regardless of whether they are a bean or a nut, peanuts have been described as “dietary Viagra“. Peanuts are rich in L-arginine, which causes vasodilatation in blood vessels. L-arginine is a precursor of nitric oxide, which is responsible for inducing smooth muscle relaxation. Research has shown that the levels of L-arginine are higher in peanuts, weight for weight, than in any other common nut or legume. Additionally, peanuts are a very good source of monounsaturated fats, and feature an array of other nutrients that have been shown to promote heart health. Peanuts are also excellent sources of vitamin E, niacin, folate, protein and manganese.

7. Wheat Germ

Wheat germ is the vitamin and mineral rich embryo of the wheat kernel that is removed during the refining of whole wheat grains to white flour. It is packed with important B vitamins, such as folate, thiamin, and vitamin B6, and the minerals zinc, magnesium, and manganese. Zinc of course is essential to the healthy functioning of the reproductive system. Wheat germ also has a high amount of vitamin E, a powerful fat-soluble antioxidant in the human body which helps protect fat-containing substances in the body from damage by free radicals. Vitamin E is therefore an important element in a healthy cardiovascular system, which is essential for sexual potency.

8. Oats

Via their high fiber content, oats are one of the best cereals to reduce cholesterol levels, thereby helping to unclog the arteries and improve blood flow. Oats, oat bran, and oatmeal contain a specific type of fiber known as beta-glucan, which has been shown in numerous studies to significantly reduce cholesterol levels. Oats also contain a unique antioxidant compound, called avenanthramides, which helps prevent free radicals from damaging LDL cholesterol, thus further reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

9. Pine Nuts

These nuts (actually seeds of the pine tree) are rich in zinc, and have been used as an aphrodisiac throughout the Mediterranean and the East. The Roman poet, Ovid, included pine nuts in his list of aphrodisiacs. The Perfumed Garden, (an ancient Arabic love manual), contains many references to pine nuts including this prescription to restore a man’s sexual vigor: “A glass of thick honey, plus 20 almonds and 100 pine nuts repeated for three nights.”

The Theme of the Developed Racism in the Play – Othello the Moor of Venice by William Shakespeare

Othello is a black man who is introduced and referred to in the play as a derogatory name like the Moor. This reference is a person of Arabic decent living in North Africa who is of a Muslim religion and who is of an uncultured, crude, coarse, and cruel background. In other words a Moor is an unintelligible and barbaric person. But, this is where the mystery begins with this ugly word. Shakespeare expresses this man to be more than just a Moor; he is an honest, noble, and fair Moor. This terminology can easily confuse your thoughts as to determine if indeed there is racism present or not. But do not be swayed by the two because either it is there or it is not.

First of all I will say that racism immediately entered the play from the beginning. It started after Iago was passed up for a promotion in the Venetian military by his superior, Othello. After this action Iago expressed how he hated him to Roderigo for his decision. This is where the fire was fueled and the blaze became racist. Iago did not have a honest or fair reason to hate Othello so he first used Roderigo’s lust for Desdemona who has just secretly became Othello’s fair Venetian wife. This news ignited anger within Roderigo which caused the first of a series of racist remarks made throughout the play. He stated “What a full fortune does the thick-lips owe.” (Act I, Scene I, Verse 66) His indication of thick-lips obviously states to me that there was something different of them and he whom they hated. You would think it was something that was wrong and flaw filled.

Secondly, the two then go to Desdemona’s father Brabantio on that very same night to notify him of the marriage that occurred behind his back. Awaking him and asking him if everyone was in his house the two suggest that he does not know what is going on within his house and of his blood. Iago with the help of Roderigo get Brabantio in panic by saying things such as “Your heart is burst, you have lost half your soul. Even now, now an old black ram is tupping your white ewe.” (Act I, Scene I, Verse 87-89) To me this proclamation communicates to Brabantio that he has just lost his daughter and that Othello the black ram was taking advantage of her. Iago then submits Othello as “the Devil.” (Act I, Scene I, Verse 91) This would probably have any father thinking the worst of the man who has taking the hand of his daughter. “Your daughter and the Moor are now making the beast with two backs.” (Act I, Scene I, Verse 115-116) Iago’s citation surely put across an obvious message that he hated Othello for personal political reasoning but also and maybe more strongly so because of his ethnicity. He was clearly racist and was in no doubt using his own personal racism to corrupt and manipulate the feelings of others.

Eventually, Iago influenced different characters to act on their emotions by trusting in his open love or hidden hate for the honest and noble Moor Othello. He show many faces such as hatred, jealousy, and the over bearing of the two was his racism for the fellow that many considered to be so noble. Anything to see to his demise, I believe was the true and final goal that Iago had for Othello. He hated him just for existing, in his authority, in his standing, in his country, or even in his world. This hatred so strongly that he would pretend to love him to see his termination in the place where he did not belong. The racism all the way through this play conveys that at any cost it will try to consume everything around it, and no one is excluded when this hatred such as racism takes its place in a life and tries to feed or spread and grow until everything and anything in its path is destroyed.

Shakespeare illustrates to the audience how the one theme goes through a metamorphosis in order to unveil something stronger and more dangerous is lurking in the dark hidden areas of this society. This theme follows through to the end of the play when even after the bloodshed of some of the characters Iago still would rather hold his tongue than to give justification of even soothe the curiosity of the very people who had fallen victim of his malicious and detesting acts. (Act V, Scene 2, Verse 303)

In closing, I will say that this play has shown me how resourceful hatred can be and how it will grow and consume more than it is fed. It also demonstrates how someone like a noble and honest Moor Othello could simply be prey to a falsely portrayed honest Iago with a heart that survives on jealousy, hate, and racism. Be careful about who and what you believe it very well may be the unknown battle of good versus evil. Sometimes what you see is what you get and other times it may not show up in black and white but there may always be the possibility of blood red.

Normal Blood Pressure Reading Know-How

So you want to know what your normal blood pressure reading is. The next time you visit the

doctor, you ask the nurse’s aide to tell you. That is after she finishes putting the cuff on your arm,

pumping it until you think your arm is going to explode, and then she rattles off a number…

124/86. Well, that is fine, but what does that mean?

A blood pressure reading measures the pumping action of the heart. The first number is a reading

of the systolic pressure, or the pressure exerted by your heart to pump oxygenated blood into the

aorta, the largest blood vessel in the body. This vessel branches off into other, smaller vessels

that oxygenate every organ, tissue and cell in your body. The bottom number, a diastolic

pressure, reads your heart at rest, or between beats.

Blood pressure readings for healthy individuals will usually range around120/80. Some people

may have varying numbers like 124/82 or 126/84 or so. You always get your blood pressure

reading in even numbers, but if someone does give you a reading with an odd number, just round

up to keep things simple. Keep in mind that your age, weight, exercise level and diet may also

have much to do with a blood pressure reading. Some people who exercise a lot and are healthy

have blood pressures hovering around 110 over 70, and that is normal, for them. The same goes

if the numbers are a little higher.

However, a normal blood pressure reading becomes a high blood pressure reading when those

numbers reach around 140/90 or so. There are several different levels typical to high blood

pressure, or hypertension, so speak to your doctor if your levels are over the 126/86 ranges.

It is difficult to pinpoint a single cause for high blood pressure, as many factors usually coincide

to produce the condition. For some, high blood pressure is inherited, and African-Americans

suffer more from high blood pressure, or hypertension, than Caucasians. Medical issues may also

cause a rise in a normal blood pressure reading, so it is a good idea to have your pressure checked

at least periodically. Nearly 65 million Americans suffer from high blood pressure, and countless

others who have not been diagnosed are walking around with the condition without even

realizing it.

As people age, high blood pressure becomes more prevalent. However, preserving a healthy

weight, exercising regularly and eating a well-balanced diet will help to prevent high blood

pressure. Stay away from excess salt, alcohol and high fat diets, and if you smoke, try to quit.

Studies have shown that certain medications may cause high blood pressure, so speak to your

doctor about risks if you are taking certain prescription drugs.

A normal blood pressure reading may not seem like a big deal to many people, but as we grow

older, it may mean the difference between a healthy, active lifestyle, or sitting your later years out

on the bench. Take an active part in your health, especially heart health, and your body, and your

family and friends, will thank you for it.

Res-Q Review

One of the more frightening aspects of heart disease is that it often doesn’t have any symptoms. However, there are certain “markers” that may offer hints regarding an individuals risk of having a heart attack or stroke, and high cholesterol levels is one of these “markers.” Cholesterol is a waxy substance that is used in the body to create hormones, ensure healthy cells and to help the body run properly, but when there is too much, it can clog our arteries and cause blood clots. These clogs and blockages stop the heart from getting the oxygen it needs to work properly, and may set the stage for a risk of a heart attack or even a stroke.

Pharmaceuticals are often prescribed to address high cholesterol levels, but many consumers find the side effects that go along with them to be troubling. Luckily, there are also some effective holistic alternatives available. Res-Q is a holistic cholesterol-lowering supplement that is suggested to be able to help people increase their levels of good cholesterol, while simultaneously lowering bad cholesterol, in order to restore heart health. Let’s take a look at its formula to see how effective it actually is.

Res-Q contains the following ingredients: Omega-3 Marine Oil and Natural Lemon Flavor, as well as a Proprietary Antioxidant Blend, which consists of Rosemary Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate and Natural Tocopherols.

The big draw for consumers where Res-Q is concerned seems to be that it provides Omega-3 Fatty Acids. This element has gotten a lot of media and consumer attention due to its healthful benefits. Omega-3 Fatty Acids contain EPA and DHA, which are suggested to be able to help augment joint, skin, bone and, of course, cardiovascular health. In fact, randomized clinical trials suggest that Omega-3 Fatty Acid supplements may help reduce cardiovascular events, including non-fatal heart attacks, non-fatal strokes and death. Some studies also suggest that they may help slow down the progression of atherosclerosis in individuals who have coronary disease.

What It Means To Be An Empath

Let’s talk about what it means to be an empath…

Being an empath is when you are affected by other people’s energies, and you have an innate ability to intuitively feel and perceive others. Your life is unconsciously influenced by others’ desires, wishes, thoughts, moods, and even pain. Being an empath is much more than being highly sensitive and it’s not just limited to emotions or physical pain. Empaths can also perceive the motivations and intentions of people around them. Being an empath, you are always open, so to speak, to process other people’s feelings and energy. This means that you really feel, and in many cases, take on the emotions of others, sometimes unknowingly.

Many empaths experience things like chronic fatigue, environmental sensitivities, or unexplained aches and pains daily. These are all things that are more likely to be contributed to outside influences and not so much yourself at all. Essentially, you walk around this world with all of the accumulated karma, emotions, and energy from others. Here are the listeners of life. Empathic people are often problem solvers, thinkers, and studiers of many things.

I personally have ‘felt’ things for a very long time in my younger years and I had no idea I was an empath. I just knew sometimes that I was sad, unsettled, had unusual pains, or was even angry with no apparent reason to be. It wasn’t until I was in my late 30’s that I learned what it was to be an empath, and why I always felt so different. And it took me quite a bit to truly realize this gift. Today, I’m calling it a gift. In my earlier years, I didn’t always think of this as a gift because I didn’t know how to contain it, control it, or even protect myself. Look for my next article on “Tools for an Empath’s Protection”.

Now I’m usually (and I use the word ‘usually’ loosely, LOL) aware of things I’m feeling that aren’t specifically mine, whether emotions things or physical symptoms. Sometimes, however, it takes me some time to figure it out and realize what’s happening. An example of this is something that happened to me the other night at a yoga class.

The minute I walked into the yoga room, I got a tickle in my throat that I couldn’t quite clear. It was just the instructor and me in the room so I just drank my water and didn’t think anything more about it. My throat became very scratchy and I had some coughing for a few minutes. The more I thought about it, I realized that I was perfectly fine before going to class, so I was beginning to think that this issue with my throat was not my own. In chatting with the instructor before class, she mentioned having a sinus thing going on, and suddenly during the class and my coughing fit, it clicked, that I was probably feeling her, and not me at all.

At one point during class and much coughing going on, I stopped doing yoga and walked around the room to clear it. I truly wasn’t certain if I was feeling the energy of the room or the instructor. What do I mean by clearing? I sent Reiki Energy to the room. I walked from one side of the room, all the way around it, sending Reiki, and continued all the way to the door. Once I made it to the door, I opened it and literally pushed any stagnant energy that may have been in there out through the door. Of course, naturally, everyone looked at me like I had 9 heads, until I was able to explain later what I had just done.

Naturally, being used to people reacting like this, I giggled to myself and went back to my practice. I noticed after that, my throat was clear. I had no more tickle, and no more coughing. At the end of yoga, right at the beginning in the beginning of Shavasana, I went back to the intention set earlier and sent Reiki Healing Energy to the instructor, the yoga room, and the entire room full of practicing yogi’s! After class, I explained what I had done, and the instructor told me that her head suddenly felt completely fine.

And that, my friends, is what it’s like to be an empath! There are too many more to even get into. My next few articles will be concentrating on how to protect you from absorbing others’ energy as well as protecting yourself from the negativity of other people and things, even if you are not an empath. Stay tuned!

I Found the Heart Within the Information Technology Industry

I’m not a technical person. Sure, I love to play with new gadgets that come on the scene, I’m an avid online shopper, and yes, you’ll see me wandering around with my son looking for the nearest Pokéstop.

My employer is deeply rooted in technology; touching everything from programming, installation, maintenance, repair, and even selling the equipment itself. I can honestly tell you I am probably the only person here who has no clue about the workings of one solution to the next. I’m the “want to-be-geek” in the land of nerds I guess you can say… my peers would probably even tell me I’m getting that lingo wrong!

Where I fit in is with marketing and graphic design which thankfully means that I can convert the technical jargon into words the average person can understand. Even more recently however I have become deeply involved with the product management side. If you’re anything like me, you may be wondering why they would involve me when I admittedly have no behind-the-scenes technical experience. Simply put, neither do many of our clients.

When people use technology, they don’t necessarily need to understand how it all works in order to know what features or changes they would like to see. Like you, I use the products and I have my own formed opinions about features and what changes I would like to see to further benefit me. Also like you, I don’t care about how it gets done, I just know that I WANT it done and I WANT it done ASAP.

Technology can seem like a cold industry to get into for a creative thinker like me, but I can tell you that there is more heart involved in this business than you would ever expect. I have seen teams come together to devise solutions based on a client’s limited budget with absolutely no kick-backs or commissions in mind… just a genuine desire to give the client the best solution they can.

I have seen managers jump through hoops trying to negotiate our costs so we can get the reduce our prices as low as possible to meet the individual needs of the client.

We have managers that respond to each negative satisfaction survey to determine how we can improve our processes and win back the client’s trust.

I have personally taken on breathing new life into a product that has gained recent momentum. I regularly reach out to clients directly to see what features they enjoy and what feature requests they want added to a future release. While this has been a huge undertaking, being involved on the client level to develop this product excites me.

Technology itself may be cold and calculated, but the people who make up the industry have enough heart to give it a soul.

When choosing a technology vendor, make sure you found someone that will put that heart into the work they do for you. That’s where the true value of a technology partner weighs in. Be honest about your budget and expectations and the right team will help you move mountains to succeed because having a long-term client says much more about your reputation than only working for short-term customers.

It took me one hour to figure out how to turn on my first iPad.

It took less than 20 minutes to find the heart behind this technology company.

Take a look at your long-standing vendor partnerships.

  • Why have you stayed with them as long as you have?
  • What value did they bring to your company to have earned your loyalty?

Role of Micro RNA in CANCER

What is a microRNA?

According to the current convention, a miRNA is defined as a ssRNA of ~22 nucleotides in length, which is generated by the RNase-III-type enzyme Dicer from an endogenous transcript that contains a local hairpin structure.

MicroRNAs and cancer

Three important observations early in the history of miRNAs suggested a potential role in human cancer. Firstly, the earliest miRNAs discovered in the roundworm C. elegans and the fruit fly Drosophila were shown to control cell proliferation and apoptosis. Their deregulation may therefore contribute to proliferative diseases such as cancer. Secondly, when human miRNAs were discovered, it was noticed that many miRNA genes were located at fragile sites in the genome or regions that are commonly amplified or deleted in human cancer. Thirdly, malignant tumors and tumor cell lines were found to have widespread deregulated miRNA expression compared to normal tissues. The question remained whether the altered miRNA expression observed in cancer is a cause or consequence of malignant transformation.

MicroRNAs as causal cancer genes at genomic breakpoints :-

Five years ago, the first direct evidence for an involvement of miRNAs in cancer was reported. Calin et al. studied a well-known deletion on chromosome13, which is the most frequent chromosomal abnormality in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). This deletion had long been suspected to contribute to leukemogenesis. However, extensive studies had failed to identify a causal gene. Calin et alfound that two miRNA genes, mir-15 and mir-16, were located within this 30-kb deletion. They subsequently analyzed the expression of miR-15 and miR-16 in blood samples from patients with CLL. Both miRNAs were absent or down-regulated in the majority (68%) of cases when compared to normal tissue or lymphocytes. This finding suggested that these two miRNAs were causally involved in the pathogenesis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. In 2005, three reports provided the first mechanistic insight into how miRNAs might contribute to carcinogenesis. Two independent studies described the relationship between a miRNA cluster, mir-17-92, and the Myc oncogenic pathway. A third report demonstrated an interaction between let-7 miRNA and the RAS proto-oncogene.

MicroRNAs with oncogenic Potential:-

A cluster of six miRNAs, the mir-17-92 cluster, was found to be located within a region on chromosome 13 that is commonly amplified in human B-cell lymphomas. It has been demonstrated that the miRNAs from the mir-17-92 cluster were over expressed in lymphoma cell lines carrying this amplification, and expression levels correlated with gene copy number of the mir-17-92 locus. Further, the miR-17-92 primary transcript was found to be over expressed in tumor samples from lymphoma patients. mir-17-92 was the first potential non-coding oncogene, referred to as oncomir-1.The cellular function of miR-17-92 was not. Nevertheless, the pathology of the tumors indicated lower rates of apoptosis as compared to tumors with Myc over expression alone. Three recent studies contributed towards our understanding of the oncogenic potential of miR-17-92. Two reports demonstrated an anti-apoptotic effect of miR-17-92 through various pathways that promote cell proliferation and growth. A third study identified mir-17-92 as a mediator of angiogenesis in tumors induced by the oncogene c-Myc. The transcription factor Myc induces expression of E2F1 growth factor. The mir-17-92 cluster which is also induced by c-Myc does, in contrast, inhibit E2F1 expression. The example of the mir-17-92 cluster highlights that a distinction between oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNAs is likely to be an oversimplification. The same miRNAs may have oncogenic or tumor suppressor activity depending on the context and the cell type they are expressed in. A single miRNA may regulate various unrelated target genes and thereby control opposing activities such as cellular proliferation and apoptosis. The ultimate function of a miRNA may depend on the tissue type they are expressed in and what target genes are present.

MicroRNAs with tumor suppressor potential :-

The let-7 family of miRNAs was the first group of miRNAs shown to regulate expression of a proto-oncogene, the RAS protein. RAS proteins are membrane-associated signaling proteins that regulate cell growth and differentiation. A miRNA that controls expression of these potentially oncogenic proteins would be predicted to possess tumor suppressor activity. Mutations in the RAS oncogene are present in approximately 15–30% of all human cancers, and over expression of the RAS oncogene is common in lung cancer.Over expression of RAS protein in lung cancer tissue correlated with reduced expression of let-7 miRNA.

MicroRNAs in the p53 tumor suppressor network :-

Transcriptional networks are often deregulated in cancer cells and may lead to altered transcription of miRNA genes. Two recent studies identified a miRNA, miR-34, to be regulated by the p53 transcription factor. The p53 protein, also called “the guardian of the genome”, regulates the cellular response to stress and cancer-initiating events such as DNA damage. It has been found that a miRNA, miR-34, is directly activated by the transcription factor p53 after DNA damage. Expression of miR-34 induces cell cycle arrest and thereby acts together with other effectors of the p53 tumor suppressor network to inhibit inappropriate cell proliferation. These data indicate that altered expression of miRNAs is not simply a secondary event that reflects the less differentiated state of cancer cells. In contrast, at least in some cases, miRNA expression is specifically driven by tumor suppressors and oncogenes.

MicroRNAs with a role in tumor invasion and metastasis :-

Transcriptional networks may drive miRNA expression in cancers. Recent work suggested a model by which a pleiotropic transcription factor, Twist, induces expression of a specific miRNA, which suppresses its direct target and in turn activates a pro-metastatic gene, leading to tumor cell invasion and metastasis. The expression of miR-10b induced by the transcription factor Twist promoted cell migration and invasion in mouse and human breast cancer cells. Furthermore, the expression level of miR-10b in primary human breast carcinomas correlated with clinical progression. These findings, if confirmed, suggest that specific miRNAs may have a role beyond the tumor-initiating event and directly participate in tumor progression and metastasis.

MicroRNA profilingimplications for cancer diagnosis :-

Micro-RNA expression profiles clearly differentiated human cancers according to their developmental origin Cancers of epithelial and hematopoietic origin had distinct miRNA profiles. A subgroup of gastrointestinal tumors, which arise from endoderm, was distinguished by miRNA expression patterns. Furthermore, tumors within a single cell lineage such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia were further differentiated according to their underlying genetic abnormality into BCR/ABL-positive tumors, T-cell tumors, and those with MLL gene rearrangement. Gene expression profiling based on 16,000 messenger RNAs did not accurately classify the tumors. This has potential important clinical implications. If miRNAs prove useful for clinical diagnosis, their key advantage might be their high stability. In contrast to most messenger RNAs, they are long-lived in vivo and very stable in vitro, which might allow analysis of paraffin embedded samples for routine diagnostic applications.

Regulation of miRNAs in cancerwho regulates the regulators?

In few cases, the underlying cause of miRNA deregulation in cancer is clear. The over-expression of miR-17-92 correlates with amplification of its gene locus. Similarly, decreased expression of miR-15 and miR-16 is associated with a corresponding chromosomal deletion. Transcriptional or epigenetic regulation of miRNAs has been recently reported .The transcription of a miRNA gene, mir-124a, was shown to be inactivated by hyper-methylation of its promoter in various human tumors. This process of epigenetic silencing is a well-known mechanism to inactivate protein-coding genes in cancer cells and may similarly apply to miRNAs. The miRNA gene mir-127 is usually expressed in normal cells but not in cancer cells. Disrupted repression of Hmga2 by let-7 promoted oncogenic transformation and growth in mammalian cells. There is evidence that miRNAs are regulated indirectly through control of their processing enzymes. It is proved that a down regulation of miRNAs in human cancer was not associated with reduced levels of the primary miRNA transcripts.

Phobia Symptoms You Need To Know

Fear is a completely natural feeling in response to objects or situations deemed threatening. Some scream at the sight of spiders. Some refuse to go under water for fear of drowning. And some sweat a lot when speaking in front of an audience. Most people experience minor fears every now and then. But for some people, such fears get out of hand, causing intense anxiety and affecting day-to-day life. Extreme and irrational fear, which occurs even if there’s little or no real threat, is more popularly known as phobia. About 19 million people in the United States have phobia.
Are you afraid that you have phobia? If you think you have it, the first thing you must do is to know the different phobia symptoms. When exposed to frightening objects or situations, people who have phobias suffer from an array of symptoms that are associated with anxiety, ranging from mild nervousness to a severe panic attack.
The main phobia symptoms include anxiety, severe and irrational fear, and avoidance behavior. People with phobia experience intense anxiety immediately after exposure to things or events that they are afraid of. Usually, anxiety escalates when you sense that it is hard to escape from it. Also, anxiety becomes more intense if the object you are scared of is closer to you. Several changes in the body occur because of intense anxiety, which include blushing, excessive sweating, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, palpitation, and muscle tension.
Severe and irrational fear happens when people with phobia anticipate or face a certain object, person, or situation that poses little or no danger. For instance, if you have acrophobia or fear of heights, you dread going to an elevated place because you might fall from it.
Avoidance behavior is also one of the major phobia symptoms. People with phobia avoid on purpose the objects or situations that they fear. They believe that avoiding those things can help keep the anxiety from happening.
The following is a list of other common phobia symptoms:
– Increased heart rate or palpitations- Sweating- Trembling- Discomfort in the chest area- Dizziness- Difficulty breathing- Feeling of choking- Hot or cold flashes- Loss of sensations- Fear of passing out- Fear of dying
People with blood-injection-injury phobia have different phobia symptoms from others. Aside from fear, you would also be disgusted at the sight of a needle or blood if you have this type of phobia. Blood pressure and heart rate increases like in other phobia types. However, dizziness, passing out, and nausea occur after the increase in blood pressure and heart rate.
Phobia is no cause for worry if it does not affect your day-to-day life that much. For example, if you have a dog phobia, then there will be no problem if you live in an area where you’re not likely to encounter dogs. But if the symptoms of phobia disrupts your normal life or prevents you from doing things that you enjoy, then you might need to seek professional help.

4 Reasons Why Weight Management Hypnosis Will Be Valuable For You

The desire to release weight could well be the number one desire in the developed world. And there are probably more different ways to supposedly solve the issue, than ever before, and yet here we are in 2017 with a greater obesity problem than ever, plus there is more diabetes and more people frustrated about their weight than ever before.

Using hypnosis for weight management is the perfect way to make your healthy diet and exercise work faster and better. But the main reason hypnosis helps is by bi-passing all the reasons that you have not sustained up until this point.

So where is your barrier to weight loss?

  1. Emotional eating. You know how it works, you have a bad day, someone upsets you, you get bad news or your teenager is driving you nuts? So exit your favorite comfort foods. Chocolate, cookies, pasta, alcohol, cola, salty snacks, etc.

You eat or drink way to much in an attempt to feel better, but after the initial moments of taste pleasure, you just keep shoveling it in, until you realize you ate the whole lot!

Now you feel bad, you over ate, you let yourself down again and your original problem still exists.

  1. Food addiction. The most common is for sugary foods but some people are stuck with the savory snacks. Addiction implies that this is some difficult problem to resolve which may require you moving into a rehabilitation center and bonding with cocaine addicts.

The truth is that sugar does bind to the same receptors in the brain that cocaine does, firing off feelings of pleasure.

But quitting sugar is absolutely not like quitting cocaine. Even the most hard core sugar fans can walk away from it with some help.

  1. Slow Metabolism. When I conduct seminars I ask how many people have a slow metabolism. Most put their hands up. Then I ask who can point to their metabolism, and of course no one can.

Your metabolic rate is governed by a number of important systems and some of these such as thyroid can be measured and medicated. But there is a simple fact. To gain weight, ie make and deposit fat you need to consume the food to do it.

  1. Picky Eaters. From my perspective a picky eater is someone who for some reason has never developed the desire for a variety of foods, and this has turned into a belief that does not serve them nutritionally.

All 4 areas are successfully managed by hypnosis allowing you to get on with being healthy and losing weight.

Increasing Need For Liver Transplant In India

Biliary Atresia, a condition leading to liver damage and there arises the need for liver transplantation. A liver transplant is removing a diseased liver and replacing it with a healthy one via surgery. A congenial deformity in which the liver is not connected to the bile duct and the bile juice is not able to go to small intestine, affects the liver because of accumulation of bile juice in the body. Statistics show that 75% of the liver damages are occurring because of this cholestatic liver disease, Biliary Atresia.

Other medical conditions for liver transplantations are Wilson’s disease, jaundice, liver cancer and intrahepatic cholestasis. A patient is need of a liver transplant only when the patient is having any chronic condition that has prevented it from normal function. Liver transplantation if done successfully would last for a long time. The regenerating capability of liver is much better than any other organs thus making the transplantation successful for many years. The advancement of technology and science facilitates the liver transportation more successful in India.

The first successful liver transplantation was carried out in 1998 by Chief Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon Dr.A.S.Soin, who is the founder of Liver Transplant India, Medanta Liver institute, Medanta, Gurgaon. As the founder of Best liver transplant centre In India, he with his team has done more than 2000 transplants in India at his liver transplant centre at Medanta. Dr.AS.Soin, a pioneering liver plant surgeon is doing nearly 30 transplants in a month. Other than Liver Plant Surgery, he has also done 12000 complex surgeries in gall bladder, bile duct in his 27 years of career. He has also received various awards for his excellence in Surgery and Transplantation.

Nowadays Liver Transplant in India has become common and the need for liver donor is becoming high. There are about 20,000 patients who are in need of liver transplant and about 500 patients only are able to do transplant. The main cause for the sudden trigger in the increase of liver malfunction is the obesity in the patients. Children who are affected by Hepatitis A virus are much prone to liver malfunction. The cost for liver transplant surgery in India is much less compared to other countries. If the surgery is carried on time, there will be success rate of 80%. There should be close follow-up of the patient after transplant, and the patient can return to complete normal condition after transplant.

Why Do Some Guys Want to Commit So Fast? Learn the Reasons Why Some Guys Are So Quick

It has kind of become like a norm that most men either hate to get into commitments or take a long time in doing so. So, it does come as a surprise to women when their man is overly eager to get committed. Below might be some reasons for that.

Reasons from the past
Maybe he has been in a relationship where he loved his woman and was absolutely committed to her and spent plenty of time and effort only to be dumped by her. So maybe his past insecurities are making him rush if he feels that you are the right one for him.

He is head over heels in love with you
Everyone has heard of the love at first sight syndrome. It is possible that something like this has happened to him regarding you. He has eyes only for you and you have become his centre of universe. So, obviously he sees no reason for any delay of any sort.

He may have territorial instincts
Now every woman has their set of admirers. If he is in some way interested in you, then his natural instincts would tell him to put a fence around you in an effort to keep the other guys at bay while he take his time to sort out his own feelings about you. In his mind he just wants the security that you do not fall for someone else in case he wants you for himself.

He is completely sure of his feelings
It is human nature for the mind and heart to be in conflict most times. But it can be that he in his whole being is very sure that you are the one and only for him. He will then find no reason for waiting.

His mind has made him insecure about you
Now he might very much be in love with you and if at all he has seen something in your behaviour or mannerisms that tell him that you might be losing interest in him, he will just push the panic button and offer his commitment sooner than you think due to fear of losing you.

Maybe he has been there forever on the scene
It might be possible that he has gone around and dated a lot of women in the past only to have been disappointed by every one of them in some way or the other. And so if he likes you, he feels the need to be quick for commitment before his mind undergoes a change too.

That need to feel settled
Bachelor days are not going to be around forever. Every man at some point of time in life wants to settle down. And if he feels that you are that special one for him, surely he is not going to hang around for long.
