Why Do Men Suffer From Silent Emasculation Syndrome?

13.8 million men in America below the age of 45 suffer from a problem which is identified as silent emasculation syndrome. This figure does not include men in the age groups of 50, 60 and 70. The combined figure of all men suffering from this problem is definitely much higher. What are the reasons behind this problem and how can it be rectified?

The problem that is associated with this condition has been identified with testosterone levels in the body. In such conditions, men begin to feel fatigued, agitated, tired and exhibit loss of libido along with energy. Perhaps the one factor which affects them most is the inability to perform well in bed. Let us look at the reasons why men suffer from such problems.

The lack of a nutritious diet is perhaps one of the reasons why men come across this problem from an early age. They forget to include nutritious food in their regular diet and depend upon junk food, which proves harmful. This is a practice which must be avoided. Men must be looking forward to including white meat, colorful vegetables and grass fed red meat along with their diet. This will help stop the reduction of testosterone within the body.

Avoiding exercise is another factor which is also responsible for this condition. Every human needs at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Exercise of this kind can improve the strength and help them perform better.

Using dietary supplements made of deer antler velvet can also boost testosterone levels and help men to remain energetic. These are supplements made from 100% natural ingredients that have no side-effects. Men can easily overcome the problem with silent emasculation syndrome by including the tips mentioned above along with their regular habits.

Loss of testosterone can easily be treated even by prescription grade medications. Physicians normally recommend testosterone replacement therapy, which is also referred to as TRT. Men who decide to use such therapies will definitely find themselves feeling better soon. However, TRT does not help the body remain energetic or recover fast. It only improves the levels of testosterone allowing men to perform better in bed. Moreover, TRT can leave behind side-effects which can prove harmful in the long run. It must be understood that this problem is not just related to the factor of ageing. If 13.8 million men in America below the age of 45 suffer from this problem, it can be conclusively stated that the problem has much more to it than just ageing. Rather, it is related to the kind of life which people lead that makes them victims of this issue.

Therefore, it is strongly suggested that men who face problems like these can begin to use deer antler velvet supplements to benefit from the properties it has. Not only will they find themselves energetic during work but will also be happy for being able to remain energetic in bed.

How To Put on a Successful Youth Football Camp

Football Camps For Youth Football Players

We do a one day camp in June or July. We have done week long and three day camps but now just do one day camps. Our goals for these pre-season camps are just to get a peek at what we have talent wise, get the kids to understand how they are to interact with the coaching staff and to have fun. We have an entire month to prepare for our first game, we can get any conditioning we need during regular football practice.

Conditioning this far out from the first practice and for such a short duration is counterproductive to what we are trying to accomplish during the camp. We feel very strongly that with the very narrowly defined football practice priorities we adhere to, we can get our evaluations, base skills and schemes put in during the one month of football practices prior to that first game. We found much of what the kids learned in these football camps was forgotten once we started in August and often the kids were playing different positions, once the teams were optimized. We don’t put in any of our football plays or playbook in during these camps.

We found anything longer than 2 hours in one day was counterproductive, even for the older kids. We rarely got much out of the kids once we hit that 2 hour brick wall, especially if it was hot. We don’t go over 1 ½ hours for the kids under age 8.

We always bring in at least one NFL player in to do a little talk at the end of the Football Camp. We have also called the Nebraska Cornhuskers and got players to attend from their FCA group, most University teams are happy to accommodate you, all you have to do is ask. The NFL guys can often get NFL money to pay for caps, t-shirts and food, every time we invited a local NFL guy they did this for us. All they ask you to do is to organize the camp, get the kids there and do a press release to get the media there.

Our format has changed quite a bit, but this is the one we use now:

Group Dynamic Warm Ups

Group Stance and Starts/Cadence

Mini Group Fun Competitions/Evaluations: This is where we do all of our fun team evaluation

games/drills detailed starting on page 69 of the book. This gets the kids pumped up and enthused about being at your camp and playing for your team and tells us what we have and where most of the kids will play.

Skill Development Stations (No conditioning or frappy agility drills)

Team Hawaiian Rules Football- On page 80 of the book.

When finished with the clinic the kids understand how they are required to interact with the coaches. As coaches we have a real good idea of the athleticism of our team in general and where 80-90% of our starters will be playing. The kids have fun and get a clear understanding that playing football for us can be both fun and rewarding if they follow a few simple directions that we will hold them accountable to. We often get more kids to join our program after the camp as parents and kids get very enthusiastic about how fun and well organized our practices are and often invite their friends to play for us.

Our youth football league has no restrictions on these type of activities, check your league for any restrictions and abide by them.

Immediate Release – Fiber and Diverticular Disease: Stop the Pressure Stop the Pain

No, no, everyone sit down and stop applauding. It may not be quite as exciting as you think.

In the world of digestive disorders, fiber is probably the most controversial subject. There is a lot of true and a lot of false information about this subject.

Let’s start with what everyone agrees on. In a healthy person, fiber is good. Most people get too little fiber in their diet. A diverticulitis diet, one rich in fiber, will assure you you’re taking positive steps toward your own recovery.

The real problem with lack of fiber is low volume in the intestines, a direct link to diverticulosis; here too, a diverticulosis diet is one of the keys to good health. It might help to think of your intestines, and especially your colon, like a tube of toothpaste. When you get down to the last toothpaste in the tube, it is a lot more work to push it out of the tube. This is the danger too low fiber and too low residue eating has on your system. Eating a diet low in fiber is much harder on your intestines than a higher fiber diet would be to “move things along.”

I do have to tell you, however, once you already have diverticulitis or colitis, adding a lot more fiber suddenly is not necessarily a good idea. Consider for a moment you have a much damaged colon. If you have pain, diverticula, fistulas, sores, wounds, and tears to begin with, then you’re already on a road with a sign at the end, reading “Watch out.” Here’s why. Your colon like the contents in a tube of toothpaste is weak, injured and may even have small tears in it. Suddenly adding a large volume of anything can actually cause complications and lots of pain. When the “tube” is weak you don’t want to add to the physical pressure it is under. Again a diet for diverticulosis is one of the closest remedies you have in your control to rectify a life of bad eating habits.

Only you and your doctor can assess whether or not you have open wounds and tears. Most people with colitis or diverticulitis are not at this level of crisis. If you know your colon is sound, gradually adding fiber is healthy and very tolerable for nearly everyone. When you increase your bulk by adding fiber to your diet, you move material through your colon much like you squeeze toothpaste through a tube of toothpaste. You make it easier for your colon to move the material through successfully. This process of movement is called peristalsis. Think of peristalsis as the motion of your hand squeezing the toothpaste tube. Lots of toothpaste makes it easy to dispense, while smaller amounts of toothpaste makes it difficult to move out of the tube, and the tube gets traumatized in the process of forcing the small amounts through it. This analogy is not far from the truth.

If you don’t eat at least 25% to 50% of your diet from the produce section of the grocery store or from your garden, you probably have a low fiber diet. A diverticulitis diet can treat or prevent diverticulitis. Some good examples of diverticulitis foods are canned or cooked fruits without skin or seeds, and vegetables such as green beans, peas and potatoes (without the skin). The less fresh produce you eat, the more you should add fiber back to your diet. In the meantime, supplement your fiber with something from the grocery store or health food store. I don’t like naming brands, but concentrate on healthier fiber choices. They all help. The one thing I recommend against is choosing a fiber source which is loaded with sugar, or worse yet contains artificial sweetener. I know it is annoying to listen to me sometimes telling you why “nearly everything is bad,” but my first passion is telling you the truth. I am not going to tell you what you want to hear instead of telling you the truth.

If you won’t listen to this advice, here is simple list to give you “best, better, good, and bad” choices.

Best: When your colon health is decent (no wounds or tears), gradually increase your fiber intake with fresh produce until you have at least one substantial movement per day and preferably two to four times per day (although they may not all be substantial). Once you get use to a diverticulitis diet, it’ll become easier for you to make the right food choices for you.

Better: Same as above regarding colon health, but gradually increase your fiber intake by taking a supplement such as a psyllium seed, psyllium husk or psyllium powder. Flax seed (crushed or powdered) is also a great fiber choice and includes some omega oils and nutrients as well. When choosing your fiber, avoid too much sugar and avoid all artificial sweeteners. In my opinion, they are toxic.

Good: Same as above regarding colon health, but take any type of fiber you can tolerate well, sugared, artificial sugar, pills, tablets, etc. Do something to improve your volume and it will still benefit you.

Bad: Keep doing what you are doing now and pretend you are going to get better. It is true, the program alone will cure diverticulitis and colitis, but the volume of stool moving through you is always going to be a factor in your internal health.

One definition of insanity is: Keep doing the same thing you have always done, but expect or hope for a different result.

Fiber is good for us for other reasons as well. The shape and non-softening nature of fiber makes it an internal “scrub brush” as it moves through us. It is the most effective internal cleanser we can use. If you look at people as a machine, such as a car for example, the internal dirt and buildup needs to be addressed periodically. In a car, this is handled with the 3,000-mile oil change. In people, especially in the UK, Australia, Canada and the U.S., we no longer fast (go without food periodically). We are rich enough and food is accessible enough we have come to think of missing a meal or two as some type of plague which has us “starving.”

Because we no longer get enough fiber, and we almost never fast for a 24-hour period (a natural cleanse), we are never getting cleaned out. As a group, our plumbing is filthy inside. Please consider adding some fiber to your diet. When you take in fiber you also need to drink a full glass of water, per dose (except produce fiber), above and beyond what it takes to mix the fiber. This is because you want to make the material moving through your tubes the consistency of toothpaste, and not the consistency of a brick. Add fiber, add water, and get healthier. Adopt a sound diet for diverticulosis and you’re on your way to a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Please do what it takes to get over this horrible disease.

Is Your Uterus Happy? Healthy Tips For A Happy Uterus

This may seem like a strange question. If you suffer from PMS, menstrual cramps, menopausal or peri-menopausal symptoms, headaches or migraines with your period, varicose veins, endometriosis, bladder infections, chronic miscarriages, or infertility there is a good chance your uterus is unhappy, prolapsed or tipped.

A healthy and happy uterus is dependent on optimal circulation of blood, Qi, nervous function, lymph, as well as good nutrient and mineral balance.

7 Healthy Tips for a Happy Uterus:

1.Walking is a wonderful free exercise that gets your heart pumping, your diaphragm descending for optimal digestion and breathing and your legs moving for good circulation. Walking also boosts the “good cholesterol” and lowers the “bad cholesterol” in your blood, which helps to keep the heart healthy. All of these things are necessary for a healthy uterus.

2. Yoga, especially inverted poses like downward dog, and partial or full headstands help the uterus go back into the proper position allowing for good circulation.

3. Greens, such as stinging nettles, kale, spinach, collard greens, etc, are very important for both alkaline balance as well as mineral balance for optimal nervous function. Women who drink 2-4 cups of stinging nettle tea daily and eat cooked leafy greens as well as lettuce salads are getting the abundant folic acid, calcium, magnesium, and other minerals needed to create a healthy baby.

4. Green Drinks such as spirulina, chlorella, oat grass and wheat grass are wonderful sources of minerals and high in chlorophyll. Wheatgrass is also an excellent source of vitamins A, B, C, E and K, as well as calcium, chlorine, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulphur, cobalt and zinc. The chemical structure of the chlorophyll molecule and its similarity to the hemin molecule of hemoglobin makes wheatgrass quickly utilized by the human blood stream, giving the human body the fundamental components to eliminate disease and regenerate itself. (Hemoglobin is one of the major components of our blood) Good strong blood and the proper mineral balance are essential for a healthy fetus.

5. Seeds and Oils and good fats are necessary for optimal hormone production. Some good sources of cholesterol are Flax seed oil, fish oil, olive oil, canola oil, almonds, cashews, avocados among many other sources. Flax seed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, especially alpha-linolenic acid, which appears to be beneficial for preventing heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis and a variety of other health conditions. Flaxseed also contains a group of chemicals called lignans that may play a role in the prevention of cancer. Studies have shown that Mothers with low serum cholesterol levels are significantly more likely to deliver premature babies, or full-term babies with lower weight, according to the study, “Adverse Birth Outcomes Among Mothers With Low Serum Cholesterol.” Researchers studied 118 women with low total cholesterol (less than the 10th percentile) and 940 women with mid-range cholesterol levels.

6. Castor Oil is derived from the bean of the Ricinus communis or Palma Christi plant (Palm of Christ). The Palma Christi has been used for therapeutically for centuries in the folk medicine of ancient India, China, Persia, Africa, Greece, Rome, and the Americas. It has large, beautiful palmate leaves hence the name, Palma Christi.

Used externally, castor oil has been used to treat a variety of health conditions such as arthritis, liver and intestinal disorders, tumors, cysts, and skin conditions. Taken internally, castor oil is a strong cathartic and is not recommended as there are ways to relieve constipation that are not as harsh. Some of the numerous uses of castor oil include the treatment of breast cysts, fibroids, and ovarian cysts, congestion of abdominal organs, skin conditions, small benign cysts, and adhesions from surgery. Wherever there is congestion, decreased blood flow and need for healing, castor oil can be an effective treatment option.

Castor oil has a unique chemical profile rich in ricinoleic acid which is known to exist in nature only in castor oil. Double blind studies conducted by the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. demonstrated an increase in lymphocyte production and the level of activity of T-cell lymphocytes in the group that used castor oil packs. T-cell lymphocytes originate from bone marrow and the thymus gland, identify and kill invaders such as virus, bacteria, and fungi. In addition to strengthening the immune system, castor oil appears to have a balancing effect on the autonomic nervous system, increasing liver activity and improving digestion.

7. Maya Abdominal Massage is a non invasive external massage of the abdomen that increases circulation around the reproductive organs allowing for the proper balance of hormones, minerals for optimal nervous function, ad good circulation of lymph. Many women have a laundry list of physical and emotional symptoms that can be addressed and prevented with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques. When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict the normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupting nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems in the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for healthy pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

How Does Frontline Spot On Flea Treatment Work?

If your pet is infested with a bad case of fleas one of the best ways to treat it is to apply Frontline spot on flea treatment. This flea control product will effectively control fleas which are breeding and feeding in your pet’s fur. Once you apply the treatment to their fur it will kill all of the fleas, larvae and eggs within 24 hours. It also keeps working for a month after the application to prevent fleas from coming back.

Before using Frontline spot on flea treatment it is a good idea to understand how it works and how it kills the fleas on your cat or dog.

What are Fleas?

Fleas are tiny wingless insects which live in the fur of mammals and feed on the blood of their hosts. They have mouthparts which are designed for piercing the skin and sucking blood. They can live in almost any animal including cats, dogs, rats and humans. These tiny agile creatures can jump seven inches into the air, which is around 1200 times their own body length.

These annoying little bugs cause itchy bites and rashes for their hosts. Sometimes the host animal can even suffer an allergic reaction from the saliva of the flea and it can cause serious problems. The frequent scratching as a result can cause hair loss. Fleas are also known to transmit a variety of viral and bacterial diseases.

How Does it Work?

Frontline spot on kills the fleas on your cat or dog because it contains a powerful insecticide known as Fipronil. When you apply it to the back of your pet’s neck, the natural oils in their skin work to spread it all around their body.

Fipronil is bad news for fleas and it kills them very quickly. It targets the nervous system of these little bloodsucking pests and causes them to become paralysed and die. Once the Frontline spot in is first applied, this chemical stays in the hair follicles of your dog or cat and is released to continue killing fleas. Even if the fleas do not bite the animal, they will still die.

If you choose Frontline Spot On Plus, it contains an extra ingredient known as methoprene, which inhibits the growth of insects. This means that it prevents the fleas from growing and reproducing with each other.

It is important that you use the Frontline Spot On treatment properly and that you apply it according to the instructions. You will also need to continue the treatments every few months so that the fleas do not come back. This is one of the most effective ways to prevent these horrible pests from causing your beloved pets discomfort and seriously health problems.

Side Effects of Tranquilizers

As it is observed with many other drugs some of these effects are quite regular and can be ignored for the initial period of medication as they slowly fade out. But some of the effects are rare and can be very serious which should never be ignored and should be brought to the immediate attention of a certified medical practitioner or healthcare specialist. The fact that tranquilizers are of two types, minor and major, they also have two sets of effects. It is not that the two sets effects are mutually exclusive to each other and some of the effects do actually overlap each other. However, in this article we have decided to discuss the effects in two different sections. The following part of the article delves into these two sections.

Side Effects of Minor Tranquilizers

Clinical research has established that people, who are exposed to the minor tranquilizers daily, even at a dose that sticks to therapeutic levels, can develop a dependence on the drug. Such dependence is detrimental on two counts. First of all, under the dependence of the drug a person tends to lose the ability to allow life to continue normally. Secondly, dependence means prolonged exposure to the drug which also increases the risks of the associated side effects.

Dependency often leads to addiction. As one gets addicted to the drug, it becomes extremely difficult to bring him out of the habit. Forceful cessation of the drugs can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms, sometimes as serious as that of alcohol withdrawal. In fact research has indicated that the treatment for the withdrawal effects alone can take more time than it is required to treat the withdrawal effects of heroine.

Some of the side effects of minor tranquilizers are severe state of hyper excitability, uncommonly aggressive behavior, feeling of agitation, agranulocytosis (when white blood cells are more susceptible to infection), partial amnesia, anxiety, comatose, inability to decide or confusion, depression, disorientation, drowsiness, epileptic seizures, excitability, severe restlessness, unnecessary fear, hallucinations, untoward hostility, hysteria, insomnia, irritability, jaundice, weariness, dizziness, problems with the liver, impairment of the memory, trembling, nausea, feeling of nervousness, uneasy sleep and nightmares, psychosis, extreme rage, sedation, changes in sexual urges and other related problems, slurred speech and suicidal tendencies.

Side Effects of Major Tranquilizers

The side effects of tranquilizers are various and we will try and list as many as we can. However this is not an exhaustive list so there can be more side effects. The side effects are confusion, depression, headache, diabetes, skin rashes, weakness, vomiting, drowsiness, irregular way of walking, birth defects in the child whose mother was under medication, blindness, disorders in blood, fluctuating levels of blood sugar, blurred vision, heart attack and heart failure, inability to concentrate, hemorrhage, liver failure, etc.

When the side effects tend to continue and seriously affect your life, please go and see a doctor so that the dosage can be modified.

Uveitis – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea, the middle part of the eye between the sclera and the retina. Depending upon different affected parts of the uvea, the inflammation may be termed as iritis, cyclitis or choroiditis. Uveitis may be related to different causes such as herpes zoster, histoplasmosis, toxoplasmosis or arthritis. Symptoms may be either acute or chronic and include sensitivity to light, blurred vision, pain and redness of the eye.

Prompt treatment of uveitis is necessary to control pain and inflammation and minimize the chances of loss of vision. Eye drops, especially steroids and pupil dilators, are usually used for this condition, in addition to other oral medications. Ayurvedic medicines can be given as additional therapy in order to improve the therapeutic response and prevent complications. Medicines like Arogya-Vardhini, Triphala-Guggulu, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Saptamrut-Loh, Triphala-Ghrut, Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and Behada (Terminalia bellerica) are used to reduce inflammation in the eye. Eye drops containing Triphala (Three fruits), Haridra (curcuma longa), Daruharidra (Berberis aristata), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Chandan (Santalum album), Usheer (Vetiveria zizanioidis), Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), rose water and honey can also be used for this purpose.

Treatment is also given according to the known cause of this condition. Kaishor-Guggulu, Ekang-Veer-Ras, Maha-Vat-Vidhvans-Ras, Bhumiamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri), Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra) and Bhrungraj (Eclipta alba) are used to treat viral infections such as herpes zoster. Medicines like Sukshma-Triphala, Ras-Parpati, Triphala-Guggulu and Gandhak-Rasayan are used to treat fungal and parasitic infections. Arthritis can be treated using medicines like Yograj-Guggulu, Trayodashang-Guggulu, Vat-Gajankush-Ras and Vish-Tinduk-Vati. Complications of the eye such as glaucoma, cataract or new blood vessel formation need to be treated separately using medicines like Gokshuradi-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Qadha, Triphala-Churna, Maha-Manjishthadi-Qadha and Saarivadi-Churna.

Iritis or cyclitis usually have an acute onset and may be controlled within 6 to 8 weeks. The onset of choroiditis is much slower and may be more chronic and more difficult to treat. All such patients should be under the regular care and supervision of an Ophthalmologist.

Which Multi-Vitamin Should I Buy?

This is a question I get almost daily. The answer isn’t quite as simple as you may think as there are many variables to consider including price, ingredients and dietary needs.

A once daily multi-vitamin is the most important nutritional product that one can use and I can not stress that enough. Everyone, regardless of age, should be taking a vitamin supplement daily. The average person does not get the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals in their diet. Most people have diets consisting of overly processed foods and/or “fast foods” that have very minimal nutritional value. The body is being robbed of essential vitamins necessary to function properly. Even if you do have a proper diet, you may still not be getting everything you need through food and a multi-vitamin is a simple way to supplement.

There are a wide variety of multi-vitamins available in the marketplace and it can be confusing. Most important is that the supplement is a “once daily” muti-vitamin. That means the product has everything necessary included in one dose. Some brand names (Centrum) will add other herbs, vitamins, etc. and market the vitamin as a “specialty’ vitamin, ex. Centrum Silver, Centrum Performance, Centrum Men, Centrum Women, etc. These additional vitamins, herbs, etc. are usually un-necessary for the average person and serve no real purpose. No need to spend the extra money. I also highly recommend vitamins for children as, again, their diets may not be sufficient for proper health. However, parents need to be aware that vitamins are not candy and that children are especially susceptible to vitamin overdose. Many children’s vitamins come as gummies or chewables and kids may want more than the recommended dose. Keep them away from the kids and dose them as detailed on the label.

Another issue to consider is quality and price. Many people are not aware that there are grades of vitamins that vary in quality. The FDA does not regulate “nutritional supplements” i.e, vitamins, herbs, etc. and these products can vary greatly in the amount of active ingredients and the quality of the ingredients. “Pharmaceutical grade” (A grade) vitamins will be the most expensive but the most beneficial and are usually not available in the general marketplace. They will be manufactured under strict guidelines and use higher quality ingredients. Other vitamins (B, C, D, F grade) will decrease in price and quality accordingly, however, the majority of what you will find on the shelves of your local pharmacy are safe and effective. Liquid vitamins are widely considered to be “better” because of quicker and more complete absorption but there is limited research to actually prove this to be true 100% of the time. Furthermore, adult liquid vitamins (Geritol, Centrum, etc.) can be extremely unpleasant to the taste buds. Capsules incorporate the best of both worlds as they are easy to swallow and may have better and quicker absorption than hard-pressed tablets.

Still another consideration is one’s dietary and health needs. Some people may find themselves lacking in certain vitamins and/or minerals because of a poor diet or medical condition. Iron is frequently added to vitamins for those who may be lacking as well as folic acid which is important for pregnant woman. Fluoride is a common additive, along with iron, to children’s vitamins to promote healthy tooth enamel. One must be aware that you can overdose on vitamins although it is extremely rare and improbable. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble vitamins meaning that your body holds them in fat cells where they can build up to toxic levels over time, while the other common vitamins, (the multiple B vits., C, etc.) and trace minerals are water soluble and excreted through urine, sweat, and feces. One cannot overdose on water soluble vitamins. Therefor, you must be aware of any medical issues that may limit the body’s need for certain vitamins as well as being aware of the amount of individual vitamins (vit. D is a good example as many people take high, once weekly doses) that you may be using.

A multi-vitamin is of the utmost importance for a healthy lifestyle. Choose a quality product at a comfortable price point while taking into account your nutritional needs.

You Can Defend Yourself With Good Writing

The Senator is right! I DO have confidence to approach people in high places, but most of all, to defend myself with my writing, etc. In my bone to pick with the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico (where I live) is how the Senator got involved in the first place. In this matter, the VA Medical Center has wrong and wrongdoing on their side, and I have right on my side, and that’s another reason why it’s easy to be confident. The other Senator from New Mexico, Senator Bingaman and U.S. Representative Heather Wilson (District 1) have been involved in this matter.

During this long ordeal, which has been going on for three years now, I have communicated with other people in high places such as: Secretary of Veterans Affairs; the Inspector General of the VA; the Governor of New Mexico; The Director of the VA Medical Center; a local judge, etc.

And, it all starts out with self-confidence in your writing skills and your attitude/abilities, etc. But, you’re going to have to pay the price in time and/or money or both, etc. And, as time goes by…we all tend to forget what we learned in school. For me, it all started with an invitation in the early 1990’s!

I was invited to join the Southwest Writers, by the then president of the organization, Eileen Stanton who has sold over 5,000 of her articles, to some of the top newspapers and magazines in the country, and she has also penned a book, etc. With over 700 members nation-wide, S.W. Writers has some of the most talented and accomplished writers in the country! Needless to say…I was flattered by the invitation!

I had been interested in writing for my later years, so I decided to take a few writing courses, to improve on my writing skills. So, in my 40’s, I completed the following; Writers Digest course; the National Writers Club course; a creative writing course at the University of New Mexico, taught by Eileen Stanton. To complete all of this, took about 18 months and cost about two hundred dollars at the time. So, if the reader wants to get better at anything…(including writing) you’re going to have to pay your dues!

I remember when I used to do my homework at work, during lunch time. One day, a fellow employee came to me and looked over my shoulder to see what I was doing, and he asked, “Didn’t you learn all that stuff in high school?” I told him yes, but I wanted to learn it all over again, because I was interested in writing for the future. He just laughed and walked away. (guess who’s getting the last laugh?) Completing these writing courses is one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

I don’t think a year has gone by of the last 10-12 years, that I have not had to fight somebody for what is right…and to defend myself…the telephone company; the cable company; the medical center; the auto club; the bank and so forth! And defending yourself starts out with a nicely crafted one or two page letter. But, the nicely crafted letter didn’t come easily, either.

When I was completing the writing courses, one of my instructors told me that I was too “conversational” with my writing…too “wordy” and I had to cut words from my writing pieces. Well…exc-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-se me…for being a blabbermouth! I’m so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o sorry for being a blabbermouth!

What happened, is my writing instructor, took one of my paragraphs and re-wrote it with her own words…said the same thing…and cut about a third of the words off the piece, etc. WOW! She called it, “tight-writing.” I could now see what she was talking about!

This is so important, because if you approach people in high places…you cannot and should not waste their time! You have to be brief…get to the point…and say what you’re going to say in the least amount of words, etc. You must eliminate all gibberish! Because I’ve written so much over the past two years, I’m getting better at “tight-writing” and I can usually cut several hundred words off my articles, and still make them understood, etc. But, it takes a lot of practice.

When I bought my first computer in 2001, it came bundled with MSN (Microsoft Network) for free for a year. I didn’t like MSN, so it expired and that was it…or so I thought! Get this…18 months later after it expired, I got a letter from Microsoft, telling me that I didn’t follow the guidelines of the TOS (terms of service) and I was being billed for $48.00! WHAT?

Well…well…well…I was now going to have to do, what I had done so many times in the past, and that was to craft a letter to the Attorney General’s office (Consumer Protection Divsion) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We’re going to find out if Microsoft is going to get anything out of me! I sent a copy of the letter to Microsoft in Arizona, where it originated. Two weeks later, I got a response from Microsoft, and it was a nice letter informing me, that I had been given a credit on the $48.00 and that I didn’t have to pay it, etc Isn’t that nice of Microsoft? That’s probably how they all become billionaires in the first place…$48.00 here…and $48.00 there from all the suckers in the country…and PRESTO…you’re an instant billionaire!

In another matter.concerning the local cable company, I paid the cable company and the telephone automatically with my checking account. Everything went fine for about a year, and then everything came apart. I got a nasty letter from the cable company, telling me that I owed them $75.00 and that the cable was going to be dis-connected…and it was! WHAT? How could this happen? The bills were being paid automatically.

It was time to write another letter to the Attorney General’s office, and all my writing starts out with five or six pages…a real mess…and all has to be edited down into one or two pages that look civilized, etc. I sent a copy to the cable company, and two weeks after the cable was dis-connected, there was a knock on the front door.

It was the cable guy, and he told me that he had a letter from his manager, giving me a credit for the $75.00 that I didn’t have to pay. He was also there to turn the cable back on, free of charge. The letter was an apology for the mix-up, and credit given. The cable company had been so rude to me in previous weeks, but I let the cable guy turn the cable tv back on, and during the next week, I returned the black box to the cable company and closed the account!

And finally…the worst letter I’ve ever seen, is one that one of my sisters sent me, when I was in boot camp in the Air Force. This letter was ugly…filled with miss-spelled words and grammar problems! I really don’t know how she graduated from high school, etc. If I wrote that poorly, I could never defend myself, and write to people in high places such as people in Congress, etc. I would be too ashamed of my writing!

A Book Review on "Quantum Healing – Exploring the Frontiers of Mind-Body Medicine" by Deepak Chopra

Deepak Chopra is a well-renowned medical doctor trained both in India and the U.S. Currently in endocrinology, he was also the former chief of staff of New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, Massachusetts and the founding president of the American Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. His insights on both Western and Eastern medicine give him a more complete and well-rounded understanding on the origin of disease.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, thought nature cured disease and although modern medicine is necessary for emergency purposes, it has recently taken a 90° turn away from Hippocrates original vision. The turn has been toward drugs and surgery, but many of today’s modern diseases can be prevented with maintaining a healthy mind and body. These solutions lack long-term sustainability and lack the intelligence of the body. Understanding this requires a different approach called “quantum healing”. Deepak Chopra describes quantum healing as “the ability of one mode of consciousness (the mind) to spontaneously correct the mistakes of another consciousness (the body).”

The Quantum perspective began with Einstein, who found that nature was not always predictable and expanded upon Newton’s straight-line physics. Planck discovered the measurable nature of energy, which transforms non-matter into matter, time into space and mass into energy. Later Irish physicist, John Bell, and English astronomer, Sir Arthur Eddington, both believed in a connection between our thoughts and the universe. An invisible force turns thought (non-material) into form (material). We know neurotransmitters perfectly match up the mind with the body and DNA builds RNA, a mirror-image copy of DNA, which carries out tasks in the body. From the quantum perspective, as we think and feel, we create chemical changes in the brain that set-off a chain reaction of bodily responses. Both good and bad thoughts alter the field of intelligence and thus the body for better or for worse. In this way, our stream of consciousness is the free circulation of intelligence between the mind and body.

Ayurveda is a medical perspective whereby symptoms are controlled by attention. In Ayurveda, every part of the body correlates to certain herbs, colors, minerals and even sounds. The use of meditation and techniques such as primordial sound are implored to initiate healing. Meditation brings awareness of thought patterns while primordial sound uses one vibration to heal another. Usually Om, pronounced AUM, is the vibration or sound used to represent the collective vibration or sound of all living things and is a way to connect to your true undistorted self. Ayurveda differs from Western Medicine in that it believes the war (disease) begins inside the body. Louis Pasteur’s germ theory, the cornerstone of Western Medicine, believes the war (disease) begins outside the body. However, if even Louis Pasteur himself admitted that his controversial theory was wrong on his death bed. Don’t you think its time for us to give up his theory?

Love and compassion are our highest qualities and in this state, we cannot contradict ourselves. True love and compassion for ourselves and all other beings enables us to live in accordance with nature. One way we manifest love and compassion for all is with what we eat. We can eat in support of nature and ourselves, but the ultimate gatekeeper of health is the mind. Carcinogens, stress, chemicals, fatty and processed or sugary foods, and diets high in animal protein can all induce cancer, but ultimately the body can restore itself. In the medical field, spontaneous healings are rare and not well-understood. Such unpredictable recoveries occur at the quantum level & are beyond what modern science can measure or record, they are formless.

The wisdom of the ancient Rishis of India was recorded in the ancient Vedic texts & predated the Egyptian pyramids by thousands of years. These texts revealed many of the concept found in quantum healing and Ayurveda. The Rishis discussed three subjective states of consciousness: waking, sleeping and dreaming and a fourth, non-subjective state attained only during meditation or prayer. This fourth state is known as our most natural state and from here we can destroy our illusions and rest in our own true nature. The Rishis also believed that all beings were not restricted by time and space, but were infinite. So think and feel from the heart not with the head, think good thoughts and feel good. Act in accordance with nature and nature will always provide for you in many ways. “In the deeper reality beyond space and time, we may be all members of one body.” -Sir James Jeans

Liposolve – Removing Fat Through Injections

Liposolve is a fabulous word, much nicer than FatMelter. But that’s exactly what this relatively new cosmetic procedure does: it melts and then burns away excess fat in your body, so you don’t have to.

Liposolve has the potential to take the non-invasive cosmetic surgery world by storm, overtaking liposuction in the fat-busting stakes. How? In a nutshell, it works by injecting a potion of fat dissolving medications into the body, which makes the fat melt and eventually disappear completely.

How it can accomplish this feat, however, is under discussion. Its makers say it evolved from a recipe made in the 1950s of largely homeopathic ingredients that are completely safe. Skeptics say it is made largely from a fat-dissolving substance called phosphatidylcholine, along with other ingredients not mentioned on the label.

Whatever the case, some say it’s a new miracle cure, others say it’s dangerous. It has not yet been approved by the FDA, although plastic surgeons who use Liposolve have complained that’s simply because the FDA approves only products, not procedures. While some Liposolve veterans have a fantastic experience with it, others say there are complications – including lumpiness that never goes away – and persistent pain in the area.

“I had injection to my love handles and abdomen a year ago, and in both area I’m flabbier then ever before,” wrote “franny 318” recently on a cosmetic surgery site. “Also, I have hard nodules in my stomach and lower back that simply will not dissolve. It was a big mistake and I wish I never did it.”

In fact, some medical professionals say that the term Liposolve is used to describe any one of a number of fat-busting cocktails, including a naturally produced “human compound”, that are injected into the skin to melt fat away, and that as a result, it is completely unregulated. So tread carefully – or you may step in something you wish you hadn’t!

A Liposolve Journey

Having Liposolve injections isn’t all that fun. Here are the steps involved:

1. After an initial consultation with the practitioner, you will be taken to the clinical area where the site will be numbed.

2. The practitioner or physician will inject you with Liposolve, angling the needle under the skin to distribute the contents. Fat is then released into the body’s bloodstream, where eventually the body burns it away.

3. Once you have the injections the area becomes red, swollen and hard – supposedly that means it’s working.

4. Massage the swollen areas on a daily basis to break up the nodules and have them empty out.

5. After a few days, these side effects will disappear. However, you may experience diarrhea – especially if you had injections in the abdominal area. And some people throw up after every treatment, while others experience flu-like symptoms, feeling as if they had been “run over by a truck”.

6. You will need at least four and up to eight treatments for it to work to maximum effect. Treatments must be at least several weeks apart, preferably at least four weeks.

Please note that some people have experienced an allergic reaction to Liposolve. You should have an allergy patch test at least 48 hours in advance – insist on one!

Areas that can be treated with Liposolve include:

* tummy

* love handles

* back

* face (including double chin)

* arms

* butt

* thighs

Be aware that Liposolve is intended to treat stubborn, smaller areas of fat that will not disappear through other means. If you have large areas of fat that you want to go away, try liposuction – or perhaps a spot of diet and exercise!

Reported Advantages of Lipsolve

* Sessions are much shorter than liposuction, taking on average about 15 minutes

* The result is much sleeker than results with liposuction, which can leave skin lumpy and bumpy.

* Liposolve is non-invasive, and the downtime is much shorter

* Compared to liposuction, Liposolve is much cheaper, costing anywhere from $300-$500 on average per treatment

* Reported Disadvantages of Liposolve

* Compared to dieting, Liposolve is more expensive

* Is not FDA-approved, and can be dangerous as you don’t really know what you’re getting inside those tiny syringes

* Can result in persistent pain in area

* Area treated can become – and remain – lumpy and bumpy

* There is always an infection risk when you break the skin open

Many people who visit medical spas to take away excess fat and cellulite have considered having liposuction as a way to melt away those stubborn fatty areas. Liposolve promises an alternative to liposuction that appears less-invasive, cheaper and with a shorted down time.

In a nutshell, Liposolve is a type of mesotherapy – or specialty that targets stubborn, problem areas with micro-injections of various concoctions. But does it really live up to its promise? Do the research yourself, find a clinic you like and decide – never have a treatment where something is injected into your body without doing all your homework first!

You might save a lot of time – and money and even physical and mental distress – by investing in a proper diet and exercise program. And if there are still areas of stubborn fat that cling no matter what – learn to live with them! Now there’s a novel idea…

What Font Should You Use For Your Book?

One of the most common questions asked by would-be self-publishers who are intent on designing and typesetting their book themselves is, “What font should I use?”

I’m always relieved when somebody asks the question. At least, it means they’re not just blindly going to use the ubiquitous default fonts found in most word processing programs.

However, there is almost no way to answer the question. It’s like asking, “What’s the best car model for commuting to work everyday?”

You’ll get a different answer from almost everyone you ask. And they might all be correct.

I am willing to offer one hard-and-fast rule, however: don’t use Times New Roman or Times Roman. That will brand your book as the work of an amateur at first glance. And there are other, very practical, reasons for not using it. Times Roman and Times New Roman were designed for the narrow columns of newspapers, originally for the London Times back in the 1930s. Today, almost no newspapers still use it. How, or why, it became a word processing standard, I have no idea. The font tends to set very tight, making the text block on the page dense and dark.

Here are two caveats before proceeding to few recommendations:

  1. The typeface you choose may depend on how your book will be printed. If you look closely at most serif fonts (like Times), you will notice that there are thick and thin portions of each letter. If your book will be printed digitally, you should steer away from fonts with segments that are very thin. They tend to become too faint and affect readability.
  2. Don’t get carried away with the thousands of font choices available. Most are specialty fonts suitable for titles, headlines, advertising, emotional impact, etc. And never use more than a very few fonts in a single book — we usually choose one serif font for the main text body, a sans serif for chapter titles and headings within the chapters. Depending on the book, we may select a third font for captions on photos, graphics, tables, etc. (or maybe just a different size, weight, or style of one of the other two). We may select a specialty font for use on the front cover for the title and subtitle.

For 90% of books, any of the following fonts are excellent choices:

  • Palatino Linotype
  • Book Antiqua (tends to set tight, so you may have to loosen it up a bit)
  • Georgia
  • Goudy Old Style
  • Adobe Garamond Pro (tends to have a short x-height, so it might seem too small in typical sizes)
  • Bookman (the name sort of gives it away, doesn’t it?)
  • Century Schoolbook (tends to be a bit wide, creating extra pages)

You need to look at several paragraphs of each font to see what, if any, adjustments you may find necessary in things like character spacing and kerning. You want to avoid little confusions, like:

  • “vv” (double v) that looks like the letter “w”
  • “cl” (c l) that looks like the letter “d”

Such things can make the reading experience annoying.

If you ask other designers, you will likely get other suggestions, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least some of the above included in their recommendations.

You may run across some books with more unusual font choices, but there are often good reasons for it. Maybe the book is a humor book for which the designer chose a lighthearted font, for example. Such decisions should be made with care and thoughtful consideration for the effects on readability.

Never decide on your font or font size based only on viewing how it looks on your monitor. Most trade paperback books are printed in 10 or 11 point size, but some fonts require larger – or even smaller – sizes. If 12 points looks too big and 11 too small, you can try 11.5 – no need to stick with integer sizes. You might be surprised how much difference a half-point (or even a quarter-point) can make on the overall “feel” of the page.

You also have to decide on appropriate leading (pronounced like the metal), which is the distance from the baseline of one line of text to the baseline for the next line, measured in points. The result is usually expressed as a ratio of the font size in points to the selected leading in points. So, you might say you have set the body text in Georgia 11/14 or Bookman 10/12.5 (11-point size with 14 points leading and 10-point size with 12.5 points leading, respectively).

Word processing programs tend to work in decimal inches, forcing you to convert leading from points into inches. A standard point is equal to 0.0138 inches. Professional typesetting/layout programs (like Adobe InDesign) allow you to use points and picas to define all type measurements and settings. although you can also specify those settings in various other units (including inches).

Typically, book designers will develop more than one design for each book’s interior, using different fonts, sizes, and leadings. They should typeset a few pages of the actual manuscript and print them out with the same page settings they plan to use in the final book (e.g., 6″ x 9″ pages). This allows the client to compare them side-by-side and evaluate them for readability and overall look.

And don’t forget your target audience. Very young readers and very old readers do better with larger type. Books that are very textually dense with long paragraphs frequently need more leading and a wider font.

Ultimately, you have to choose based on what your gut reaction is to the typeset samples. It never hurts to ask other people to read it and tell you if one option is easier to read than another.

If you want to gain an appreciation for typography and how to make appropriate design decisions, I recommend the following excellent books:

The Complete Manual of Typography by James Felici

The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst

Book Design and Production by Pete Masterson

For those who insist on using Microsoft Word to typeset books, you really should buy and study Perfect Pages by Aaron Shepard. He is the reigning guru of how to do it.

It is far better to buy professional layout software and then learn all you can about typography and how to apply those principles to book design…or to hire a professional to do for you. The latter course will leave you more time to develop a dynamic marketing plan for your latest book and start writing your next one!

Cancer Man – Dating This Type of Guy

Are you wondering how to keep your Cancer man happy and in love? What should you look out for with a Cancer man in love? How will you know if you and your Cancer man are a good fit for one another?

When dating a Cancer man in love, there are some things you may be able to live with and some things that you can live without. In order to determine if you are compatible with each other, here are some of the characteristics that you will find with a Cancer man in love.

Loyalty is Important

A Cancer man is incredibly loyal and will be to his partner as long as the relationship lasts. In return, he expects your loyalty as well. This can make a Cancer man slightly possessive and you must be willing to accept this and be by his side more often than not.

Emotionally Stable

You can also rest assured that your Cancer man will create an emotionally satisfying relationship for the two of you. In fact, he can be very emotional at times, but the good news is that he will be sensitive to your moods and needs as well. He can also be very sympathetic and will be there if you need a shoulder to lean or cry on. On the other hand, because he can be so emotional, he can have his feelings hurt very easily. Therefore, it is important to be very careful about what you say to him, especially if you are having an argument. He will be hurt by criticism and can also be a jealous type.

Leadership Material

You can rest assured that your Cancer man is a leader. He will be looked at this way by his peers and he can be relied on when times or tough or in an emergency situation. He will be very responsible and he will take these responsibilities very seriously. On the other hand, this trait can also mean that he is rather strong willed. You will need to be just as strong willed in order to stand up for yourself or you may find yourself being manipulated.

Get Outside

When dating a cancer man, you will have to realize that you will have to get outdoors with him. He will love nature and you may find yourself hunting, camping, hiking or backpacking. It will help the relationship go a long way if you’re an outdoors fan yourself and more than willing to hit the trails each weekend.

Good Family Man

If a large family and a stable home life is important to you, then the Cancer man in love is for you. He will be proud of his home and will want to share it with friends and family for gathers around a fire in the winter and a backyard bar-b-que in the summer. He can worry a little bit too much about his family, but he will love his brothers, sisters, and anyone else with all of his heart and care for them greatly.
