caffeine and panic attacks – are the related?

Have you ever wondered if caffeine and panic attacks are related? In this article I hope to share with you the answer to this question in the attempt to minimize your anxious feelings or panic disorder.

If you are like many people, you will enjoy a good coffee in the morning to wake you up and relax you. Most people would not give this a second thought; however there are some people who need to understand the effects that caffeine can have on the body and the mind.

Caffeine can cause both insomnia and anxiety, and both of these conditions are leading causes of panic attacks. In saying this there is a need to reduce the consumption of caffeine especially if you are used to consuming coffee or other caffeinated drinks on a daily basis.

It is worthy to note however that everybody is different and certainly does not mean that if you do consume caffeine that you will increase the chance of a panic attack, but there is a chance that it could do that and it is something you need to be aware of.

So why does it increase the chance I hear you ask? Many substances, such as alcohol, nicotine, marijuana and caffeine all interrupt and destabilize the brain process that keeps us feeling happy and normal. The chemical adenosine is one way the brain helps us, as this is the chemical responsible for calming us down in stressful situations.

It has been found that substances such as those mentioned above interrupts the creation and secretion of this chemical, which in turn allows for stress to build up and form into anxiety.

Another reason is that caffeine increases the body’s heart rate. An increase in a person’s heart rate from these substances can also increase the chance of having a panic attack.

To be honest, it’s not entirely surprising that caffeine is a culprit in our anxious feelings. It is counter intuitive to not consume caffeine on a daily basis, especially considering that it is found in a lot of different types of food. There is a firm belief that drinking coffee will actually decrease stress, when in fact it actually does just the opposite.

So now you have learned the truth about caffeine and panic attacks, and that it does in fact increase over all anxious feelings. Now its time to deal with the problem itself. Learn how to stop an anxiety attack using natural methods and be free from anxiety for good. Remember no matter how deep the problem may lie there is always hope provided you have the desire and determination to succeed.

6 Types of Muscle Tightness

Everyone has tight muscles sometimes, and some people have tight muscles all the time. While tightness is certainly uncomfortable and a request for attention, it is not a useful adjective for diagnosis, because this sensation has several causes. Treatment for one type of tight muscle can actually make another worse. Learn six types of tightness so you can respond to your muscles’ complaints more effectively.

#1 Short and overused

After a long hike or intense workout, the muscles in your legs may feel tight and sore, because they have been overused. The muscles are contracted and could benefit from gentle stretching, especially while they are warm from activity.

#2 Long and overused, but weak

Unbalanced posture creates imbalanced muscles. Some muscles will be short and contracted. Others will be long for counterbalance, which creates stiffness that feels like tightness. Computer posture is a great example. The muscles in the front of the chest are short and overused. The upper back and shoulders are overstretched and working in a compromised, weakened position . Isometric exercises, such as squeezing the shoulder blades together and down to shorten and strengthen the upper back muscles, are effective.

#3 Underused and weak

If a muscle is not used, it will atrophy and the surrounding connective tissue and fascia become dense. In computer posture, several arm muscles fall into this category. Gradually increase strength through exercise to rebuild the health of the muscle and feeling of suppleness to the fascia. Exercises that use many muscles at once, like pushups with the knees down or bench press with light weight, work better than machines that target individual muscles.

#4 Strained

Muscles that are overused to the point of strain tighten up for protection. That can come from overdoing any workout, yard work, or helping a friend move. The first step in healing is rest. Ice, heat, or a combination can help, too. Then gradually introduce exercise and stretching. It is important to back off your usual routine and build up slowly to avoid additional strain.

#5 Trigger points

Strain can create trigger points and so can structural imbalance, poor posture, and being cold. These knots are often described as tightness. The best treatment is warming the muscle, pressing or massaging the tender points, and then stretching.

#6 Scar tissue

Muscles and connective tissue that have been damaged, either from a sudden injury or continual microtrauma of poor alignment, repair themselves with stiff, inflexible scar tissue. Manual therapy like deep tissue and cross fiber friction massage is an effective treatment. Gentle stretching sometimes helps, but overstretching creates microtears in the connective tissue and even more scar tissue.

Manual therapists and exercise professionals need to diagnose the source of tightness, so it can be addressed appropriately. For example, lengthening or stretching a long and overused muscle makes it even stiffer. For the client, becoming aware of what underlies the feeling is an important tool for self care, injury prevention, and personal growth.

Eye Braces Instead of Laser Eye Surgery?

Are you nearsighted, farsighted? Before your give up your glasses for contact lenses or laser eye surgery, check out the promises of eye braces. They promise to correct your vision without surgery – while you sleep.

A long time ago, back in the 1960’s, two California doctors when getting feedback from their patients who wore contact lenses, kept hearing the same type of story over and over again. Many times their patients would leave their home, drive to work and then halfway through the day notice that they were not wearing their contact lenses. And they were seeing perfectly well. It appeared that the constant wearing of the contact caused a gradual reshaping of their cornea, improving their ability to see. This chance discovery eventually led to experimentations and studies on shaping the eyes using contact lenses.

Corrective eye braces or CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy) lenses as they are formally known, are hard contact lenses that act much like a retainer or braces do on your teeth. You put them on at night just before you go to bed. During the night, while you sleep, they reshape the cornea of your eye. When you wake up in the morning, your blurred vision is gone. You can see the pictures on your wall, the buttons on your clothes, and the alarm clock on your dresser. You have 20/20 vision.

Unlike laser eye surgery, the changes are not permanent. The changes to the cornea will last only a day on some people. On others, it has lasted up to a week.

So who are the most likely candidates for these eye braces?

Young teenagers for one. Many good eye surgeons will not operate on a teenager or a person under 18 or 21 because the body, including the eyes. may still be growing and changing. At those ages, they doctor may legitimately determine that the risk is not worth it and rule out corrective eye surgery altogether. In this case, eye braces, may be a good alternative.

The eyes are one of our most important senses and many people are leery of making any type of permanent change to them. Add to that the growing number of malpractice lawsuits involving refractive surgery, and some people, especially those already wary of surgical operations, begin to look for alternative ways of improving their vision. For them, they are a good compromise between permanent contact lenses and laser eye surgery.

Those looking for a bargain will also like eye braces. The cost of CRT lenses is much less than the cost of laser eye surgery. The news is not all good, however. The braces have to be hard, in order to reshape the cornea. This can make them uncomfortable to wear. And although most people will get used to them, some find they can’t adjust.

Also, although relatively infrequent, the wearing of contact lenses, does increase the risk of microbial infections of the eye.

And thirdly, there have been no long term studies of the effect of wearing them on a nightly basis for an extended period of time.

So if you want CRT lenses how do you get them? You can’t just go into an eye doctor’s office and order them. A CRT lens has to be prescribed by a doctor who has been certified in CRT lenses.

Authentic and Replica Online Discount Designer Eyeglass Frames

Designer eyeglasses in the market are attracting a great number of permanent and temporary customers. Those regular customers do believe that those superior designer glasses are absolutely worthy of their high prices. For some temporary customers, it can be a new experience of wearing designer spectacles. While those branded spectacles are mainly enjoyed by the rich group, a tiny proportion of individuals with low or medium income may also be potential customers. After all, this is the not key point. The key point is that those designer eyeglasses are becoming more and more popular among the public. Fewer eyewear users choose to insist on using those non-branded eyeglasses for lifelong. Yet a problem is that designer eyeglasses are really expensive. In most cases, a typical brand would ask the customers for exorbitant prices. For the majority of the public, discount designer eyeglass frames are the only choice. Either they want designer prescription glasses or designer sunglasses, choosing those discounted frames are necessary.

Online shops are always the first option for customers to search discount designer eyeglass frames. Since the e-business market including eyewear products is continuing to enlarge, more vendors start to open online eyewear shops. For every online buyer, it is very important to check the authenticity of an online shop which sells designer glasses. Discount designer glasses do enable individuals to save money. But eyewear quality should not be sacrificed. From this viewing point, there are mainly two types of online stores who provide discount designer glasses. One type is authentic stores and the other type is replica stores. These two types are quite different in offering products as well as charging prices. It is necessary for customers to differentiate one from the other.

Authentic designer glass stores have remained the majority on the Internet. Some of the notable ones include framesdirect.com, glassescrafter.com, bestbuyglasses.com, firmoo.com etc. Most of these authentic online stores order products directly from different manufacturers. And they often stock eyeglasses of many brands, such as Oakley, Ray Ban, Gucci and Versace and so on. Those authentic designer glasses can ensure customers product quality and original designs. In fact, discount designer eyeglass frames from qualified online stores are the right choice. But the fact is that there are still online shops selling replicas of designer glasses, such as sunglassvip.net and sunsetsunglasses.com. These shops always claim they are offering discount designer eyeglass frames at extremely low prices. Replica designer glasses are truly cheaper than those authentic ones. But they may sacrifice glass quality and offer only unoriginal designs.

The Pros and Cons of Neurofeedback Therapy – Biofeedback For the Brain

Much news coverage has been given lately to an amazing scientific breakthrough called neurofeedback that can treat many disorders related to brain function, including ADHD, depression, eating disorders, and several others. If you have been wondering if neurofeedback therapy can help you, there are a few factors you will want to weigh when considering this treatment.

First, it is a very safe procedure. Neurofeedback is completely non-invasive, and most people who have been through the therapy say that it is comfortable and even enjoyable. The therapist will attach electrodes to your scalp, which are held in place by a water-soluble gel. These electrodes conduct the current coming from your brain into an EEG device, which will transmit this information onto a computer screen. No input goes into the brain; the machine simply reads the electrical energy coming from your brain.

There are virtually no significant side effects to the procedure. Some patients have reported feeling a bit tired after a neurofeedback session. Body language expert and author of The Productivity Epiphany, Vincent Harris, reported that he was extremely tired after his first session, but that he was back to normal after taking a nap and a good night’s sleep. If you find that you are tired after a session, let your therapist know, and they can easily adjust the settings to avoid much of the temporary fatigue.

Although sensitivity to the gel used to attach the leads is very uncommon, some people have experienced this mild side effect. If you have sensitive skin, let your therapist know, and he or she can do a small patch test before proceeding.

Studies continue to be conducted to determine the efficacy of neurofeedback. While solid evidence is pending regarding the use of neurofeedback in the treatment of some conditions, several studies support the benefits of the intervention of neurofeedback. Positive results from neurofeedback therapy have been demonstrated in numerous case studies. These results are often long lasting because neurofeedback actually changes the way the brain works.

In the case of ADHD, or ‘attention deficit hyperactivity disorder’, for example, several studies have found that 8 out of 10 (80%) of those with ADD/ADHD who are treated with neurofeedback therapy are able to leave the aggravating symptoms behind for many years with just 30-40 sessions in most cases.

The results you experience from a neurofeedback procedure could depend somewhat on the environment in which you receive the treatment. It can be more effective if it is performed where the problem you’re trying to solve usually occurs. For instance, teenagers with ADHD may have better results when their neurofeedback sessions take place in the classrooms where they have difficulty concentrating.

Neurofeedback can be costly, however. This type of therapy is not always covered by insurance plans, and the cost for treatment can range from $90 – $150 for each session. Most practitioners offer payment plans for their clients. Some offer an interest free loan through www.CareCredit.com. In some instances, health insurance will reimburse a portion of the cost of the therapy.

Here is what one therapist asks patients to consider when he is talking to them about neurofeedback therapy. After he has explained how neurofeedback works, he tells them, “Before you decide to go ahead and begin the training, let me ask you to consider something. Pretend for a moment that we are six months into the future; you have completed six months of neurofeedback therapy and have experienced significant and deeply profound results. In fact, you feel so much different than you did six months ago, that you sometimes feel as if a miracle occurred.”

He continues, “Now, if after you have experienced all of these wonderful changes, the ones you are enjoying so fully and completely now, thinking back to how much you had struggled six months ago, and I offered you $4,000 cash–I want to buy back all of the results you have achieved with neurofeedback. I will give you back the money you spent and we’ll just take away all of the positive changes you experienced. Will you sell the results to me for $4,000?”

He said he has never had someone tell him yes, and that to most patients, having looked at it from this perspective, $4,000 seems like a trivial amount of money to invest in the happiness and increased quality of life that neurofeedback therapy can bring them.

The Night Tomato Diet: A New Way to Lose Weight

Tomatoes are a low calorie, low fat, and highly nutritious fruit. Yes, it’s a fruit for those that still want to argue that it’s a vegetable. Many people will also try to convince others that fruits are not good for losing weight because of the natural sugar in them; however, tomatoes do not fall victim to that belief. They do not contain a high amount of sugar in them.

By knowing that tomatoes are a diet-friendly fruit, you can start to see how it can help you with your diet. But it’s not just eating them that will help you lose weight. It’s eating them at night that can help you.

Why Tomatoes Help You Lose Weight

You should have at least 15mg of lycopene a day. How much is that? You would have to eat 2 large raw tomatoes, 1 can of whole tomatoes, and about 2 cans of tomato juice to reach 15mg of lycopene. It sounds like a lot, but once you start incorporating them into meals and snacks, you’ll easily reach that amount and probably even more.

Before you think that eating that many tomatoes must be high in calories, each tomato is around 30 calories. As you can see, that means you may only be getting 200 calories from all of the tomatoes you eat as part of your tomato diet.

The reason you need to eat so many is because the lycopene in the tomatoes release the weight loss hormone 13-oxo-ODA. This hormone will speed up your metabolism.

Besides activating the weight loss hormone, tomatoes contain fiber, which helps you feel fuller for longer and helps rid your body of toxins. These additional benefits just support all of your weight loss efforts.

Why Eat Tomatoes at Night?

It’s not actually eating them late at night. It’s eating them at dinner. Since dinner is traditionally the largest meal of the day, this is when most people consume the most calories. By adding a large number of tomatoes into a dinner meal (and replacing other high-calorie foods), people are able to cut out many of the calories in that meal. This means that not only are they receiving the nutritional components of the tomatoes and the weight loss factors such as the boost in metabolism, but they are also eating fewer calories.

This diet should be followed for at least three months. Six months is better because it takes that long for the metabolism to reprogram itself. What that means is that once it speeds up because of the tomatoes, it is more likely to stay that way after six months.

Give this diet a try. It will probably be the most nutritious, healthy diet you’ve ever tried that will be effective now and for many years.

B12 Shots for Weight Loss – What Are the Benefits and Side Effects?

For anyone who wants to shed excess weight, the most tried and true method is a proper diet and frequent exercise. Nevertheless, there are some ways to enhance your likelihood of reducing your weight. One of those ways is B12 injections which has shown to improve a persons overall health. There are those that have a B12 deficiency and require the shot, but that doesn’t mean its right for you. We’ll discuss what exactly the B12 shot for weight loss is and what benefits or side effects may result from taking this shot.

What exactly is B12?

B12 is a nutrient you could acquire by eating fish like bass or salmon, as well as clams and lean meats. Taking B12 may also increase a persons metabolic rate which increases energy levels. Increasing your metabolic rate not only helps you burn calories even while resting, but stops the extra consumed fats from just being stored; more will be used up to produce the energy.

Even though there is a lack of clinical proof that B12 injections for weight loss work, some have reported that taking B12 helps in controlling weight gain. Regardless of the advantages or disadvantages of B12, experts agree that the most efficient way to get vitamin b12 into the blood stream is by taking a b12 shot. Since B12 helps in making your metabolic rate work appropriately, it could be one factor in the success of every fat reduction plan.

Some doctors would have you taking B12 shots for weight loss once a week, but there are things to consider. Price is one thing to consider because the shots run upwards of $25 dollars per shot. Now, if you need 1 to 2 shots a week that might be more than you are willing to pay. Once taking the shot if you see positive gains in your energy levels and just overall feeling good, then you could opt to have the shot twice a week or twice a month. As with any medically related treatment, your doctor will advise you best.

B12 shots for weight loss can also produce weight loss results, because often they contain some sort of fat burner. These shots may contain a lipotropic complex which combines natural herbs, multiple vitamins and minerals. This lipotropic complex supports healthy liver organ function and will help the liver manage fats. These fats are broken down and then move throughout the bloodstream where they may be used to produce energy.

B12 Shots Benefits

The benefits of B12 shots may be reduced stress levels, skin condition improvements, energy level increases, and possible weight loss. If you’re in good shape, feel healthy and balancedandhave no lack of energythen taking the B12 effects may be minimal. However if you are feeling run down, on the go all the time then a B12 shot may just be the thing to help give you a boost. Having a B12 deficiency though and taking the shot, may improve your bodies response to any weight loss program and increase your energy overall.

B12 Shots Side Effects

As with any shot, medicine or product you take, there can be side effects. Not all people will experience these side effects, but there are symptomsthatyou should be aware of. If you decide to take the B12 shot and experience any of these side effects, contact your physician immediately. These may include:

  • Moderate diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Inflammation at the area of injection
  • Headache
  • Tightness within the chest area or raised heartrate
  • Muscle soreness, weakness, cramping pains
  • Regular urination
  • Trouble breathing or swallowing
  • A sensation of excessive exhaustion or tiredness
  • Swollen hands, lower legs, arms, ankles or feet
  • Hives
  • Itchiness
  • Visible rash on the skin surface

If considering b12 injections for weight loss just understand it’s not the only answer. Proper diet, exercise and learning about nutrition all will benefit you in the long term. Like some, you may have a B12 deficiency and require the shot, but your doctor will examine your overall health and help you decide.

Penis Health Resolutions for the New Year

As the new year dawns, people take stock of their lives and make resolutions that will hopefully have a positive impact on their lives. Maybe it’s time to consider some resolutions that can have an impact on penis health or sexual health? Even men who already practice decent penis health routines may benefit from thinking about what more they can do in this important area of their lives.

Here are some sexual health resolutions some men may want to consider. These are just a starting point, so feel free to add to them!

– Always use a condom. Unless a man is in a monogamous relationship, he definitely needs to use a condom – and even in a monogamous relationship, condoms should be employed if either partner has an existing transmissible disease or infection. Preventing STIs is arguably the most important thing a man can do for his sexual health.

– Don’t be afraid of the doctor. Men in general are less likely to visit a doctor than are women, and this seems to be especially the case when it comes to sexual health issues. A guy may notice a sore or blister on his penis and choose to not see a doctor because he’s afraid of what it may mean. Yet even when such signs lead to a diagnosis of an STI, it’s much better to know this information so appropriate treatment can be started to address the problem.

But regular visits to the doctor are important for sexual health even when the focus is not on the penis. Check-ups help the doctor keep a man’s heart healthy, his blood pressure in line, etc. – factors which impact his sexual health, even if the penis doesn’t seem to be directly involved. So don’t be afraid to check in with a physician regularly.

– Watch stress. Stress is one of the factors that can have a really big impact on sexual health (and health in general). Tension and anxiety have become increasing problems for men, and when a guy feels stressed, he may not have the sexual ability and/or drive that he would otherwise. Finding ways to relax, whether it’s through meditation, yoga, exercise or other means, is a great gift to give oneself.

– Use it. Since sex is on men’s minds a lot, it may seem odd to recommend that a man engage in sex more often. But sometimes men – either by choice or necessity – may experience lengthy stretches with no sex. But studies show the penis needs exercise just like other body parts in order to remain healthy. Some men feel guilty about masturbating, but solo activity can help to keep the penis in better health – and it’s one of the more enjoyable forms of exercise around!

– Watch the vices. Guys who are smokers or heavy drinkers should seriously work on cutting out the former and cutting down on the latter. Both of these activities have been shown to negatively affect penis health and performance.

– Crème it. A man’s sexual health is linked to his penis health, so one of the most important resolutions is to apply a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to the penis. A good penis health crème can help the penis look appealing, especially where the skin is concerned. When the crème contains a high-end emollient (such as Shea butter) and a natural hydrator (such as vitamin E), the skin will be well moisturized and supple, rather than dry and patchy. If the crème also contains vitamin C, it will give a boost to collagen production, which is essential for penis health and firmness, making a man’s penis present in an even more impressive fashion.

Federal Nursing Home Care Reform Act

A 1986 study conducted by the Institute of Medicine concluded many residents of nursing homes were being subject to ill treatment. This study fueled the efforts for reforms which became law in 1987. The Nursing Home Reform Act was passed as a portion of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987.

The objective of the reforms was to ensure patients received the highest practical care to foster their mental, physical, and psychosocial well-being. The act established a Resident’s Bill of Rights and specifies services which should be given. Medicare and Medicaid payments will be halted if the facility does not comply with the reforms. As nursing homes rely on the majority of their expenses to be funded from these sources, the facilities are forced to make sure their care is up to standards.

Required resident services include: comprehensive care plans for each individual resident, periodic assessments by professional, nursing services, rehabilitation services, social services, pharmaceutical services, dietary services, and if the facility houses more than 120 patients, it must employ a social worker full time.

The Residents’ Bill of Rights gives patients the following:

-The right to freedom from abuse, mistreatment, and neglect;

-The right to freedom from physical restraints;

-The right to privacy;

-The right to accommodation of medical, physical, psychological, and social needs;

-The right to participate in resident and family groups;

-The right to be treated with dignity;

-The right to participate in the review of one’s care plan, and to be fully informed in advance about any changes in care, treatment, or change of status in the facility; and

-The right to voice grievances without discrimination or reprisal

To asses whether nursing homes meet the criteria as designated by the Nursing Home Reform Act, the law established a certification process. It requires the state to conduct unannounced surveys and resident interviews at random times. However, the government did not issue regulations for the process until 1995. If there are specific complaints filed against a nursing home, the residents will often be surveyed accordingly so if a problem exists it can be detected.

If a nursing home is found in violation, it might have the opportunity to correct deficiencies before discipline is imposed. However, the following sanctions have been imposed for facilities which do not pass: directed in-service training of staff, directed plan of correction, state monitoring, civil monetary penalties, denial of payment for all new Medicare or Medicaid admissions, Denial of payment for all Medicaid or Medicare patients, temporary management, and termination of the provider agreement.

Diet Guide to Prevent Cold Sores Outbreaks

What are cold sores?

Cold sore outbreaks are a manifestation of the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) that you carry in your nerve cells. If you suffer from labial herpes (herpes) you are probably infected by the Herpes Simplex Virus type 1, but the type 2, generally associated with genital herpes can also manifest itself on the lips or the nose region. Near 80% of the world population carries the virus, but only 15% to 30% of them suffer from recurrent outbreaks. Once you are infected by the virus, you are infected for life; there is no known cure for herpes.

Even if you suffer from recurrent cold sores you can drastically reduce or even prevent outbreaks by following some simple rules. Some of these rules are not fun to implement into your daily life, but their effects may convince you to stick with it. Let’s begin!

The amino-acid ratio battle.

Arginine: Arginine is an amino-acid found in virtually any food that you eat. Arginine by itself is not evil; the problem is that it is the favorite ‘food’ use by the Herpes Simplex Virus to reproduce. High levels of arginine appear to cue the virus to begin replicating.

Lysine: Lysine is also an amino-acid obtained from your diet. If arginine has herpes growth-promoting activity, lysine has the opposite effect. The herpes virus cannot use Lysine to feed or to replicate; this is why we need to feed more lysine to our cells. So logically the more lysine and the less arginine you consume in your foods, the fewer cold sore outbreaks you are likely to have. BUT the goal is not to eradicate arginine from your diet, you need it to stay in good health and regenerate muscles! What we need is food with a good lysine/arginine ratio. Here are 2 examples:

Example 1 Peanuts: 100 grams of peanuts contain: 1006 mg of lysine and 3506 mg of arginine. This is a 0.29 lysine/arginine ratio. Eat peanuts with moderation!

Example 2 Plain Yogurt: 100 grams of plain yogurt contain: 311 mg of lysine and 104 mg of arginine. The lysine/arginine ratio is 2.99. Yogurt is ok!

Food with a poor lysine/arginine ratio (consume with moderation):

• Eat with extreme moderation all kinds of nuts (peanuts, almonds, cashews, etc…) As well as their by-products.

• Eat with moderation all kinds of seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, etc..) As well as their by-products

• Citrus-based juices (orange, grapefruit, tangerine juice, etc…)

• Raisins

• Coconut

• Chocolate and all other cocoa by-products

• Puffed oat and oatmeal, wheat and wheat by-products

• Cucurbitaceae (Squash, pumpkin, etc…)

• Beware of arginine-rich food supplements, typically found in bodybuilding food products

Some food with a good lysine/arginine ratio (ok food)

• Dairy products (yogurt, milk, cheese)

• Meat (chicken, beef, pork etc…)

• Fish (tuna and sardines are packed with lysine)

• Soybeans

Some food with a near neutral lysine/arginine ratio (neutral food)

• All vegetables

• Shellfish

• Legumes

Refined sugars and their substitutes.

This one is not easy, everything nowadays contains refined sugars or artificial sweetener, from industrial bread to your favorite yogurt. To avoid these sugars try to buy ‘plain’ food and sweetened them by yourself with pure honey.

Try to stay away from refined and processed sugars like:

• White sugar

• Fake brown sugar

• Corn syrups

Try to stay away from refined and processed sugars like:

• Aspartame (a.k.a: Equal and NutraSweet)

• Saccharine (a.k.a: Sweet’N Low)

• Sucralose (a.k.a: Splenda, Altern)

• Sorbitol

Remember, try to use honey instead of refined sugars or artificial sweeteners.

Avoid acid beverages and liquids

Drink these beverages in moderation, they acidify your body and a low body pH is more subject to viruses’ proliferation:

• All soft drinks with phosphoric acid or refined sugar or artificial sweeteners (Actually those 3 conditions apply to 99% of soft drinks, it might be a good idea to quit soft drinks for good!)

• Beer, wine and alcoholic beverages

• Go easy on all sorts of vinegars, including by-products like yellow mustard If you really like bubbly liquids, try to replace soft drinks by sparkling mineral water, they come in a variety of flavors.

Fatty food

Fats from natural sources like meat, fish and plants (unsaturated fats, Omega-3 oils (fish oils, flaxseed oil), Omega-6 oils (most natural plant oils) and saturated fats) are relatively safe to consume. But hydrogenated oils also known as trans-fat should be avoided at all cost. It is widely found in fast food, packaged, pre-made and processed food.

Final word on dietary habits

The goal is not to eradicate everything we have listed from your diet; you can indulge once in a while without any consequences. But moderation is the key!

Choosing Your Business and Practice Name

Choosing a proper name can make a BIG difference in the success of your new business.

Business names that are easily remembered have a better chance of getting word of mouth referrals and customer recognition than names that everyone forgets without fail. Businesses grow and expand because they offer quality services and products AND because they enjoy name recognition. Think of names like Google, Dell, AT&T, Welch Allyn and The Mayo Clinic. When I was trying to come up with a name for my business I tried several different names and variations.

So here are a few pointers that I’d like to share with you so that you can come up with a great name for YOUR venture. Get out a pad of paper, a pen and let’s get those creative juices flowing!

  1. Keep the name short and pronounceable – You want to choose a name that is descriptive of your product/service/location, etc. Beware though – names that may be cute or clever could easily backfire on you. I mean, would you want to visit “Porky Pine Acupuncture” or “Crazy Cures’ Medical Clinic”?
While these names may be pronounceable, are they really the best representation of your practice? Try to remember that your name is an “image” that will come to the mind of your potential customers and of course, other professionals.
  2. Keep your business name sensible -Don’t make your name too restrictive. At times, business names that reflect a specific location may pose a problem. What happens if you move, would you want your business name “Lincoln Street Clinic” if your physical location was “Fourth Avenue”? While having your location easily memorable, you want your name to reflect your services more than your location.
Also keep in mind where your business name will fall alphabetically in the phone book and professional listings. Does your listing get lost because it’s in the middle of 7 pages of the listings? This is why there are so many businesses with the letter “A” in the beginning of their names – the closer you are to the front – the easier you are to find.
  3. What does your name say about your business? – Another thing to keep in mind…what does your business name mean? If you are serving a multilingual population this could be a problem. Marketing history is filled with examples of companies committing HUGE blunders while choosing names for their products simply because they did not translate well into a different language.
Also don’t forget that you (and your staff) will have to answer the phone, record voice messages, etc. Can you say the name without being embarrassed or humiliated? If not, it’s time to go back to the drawing board!

Final Thoughts  -There are so many ways to come up with a name for your business. Talk to your friends, do some research online, but in the end – choose a name that fits who YOU are and what your services are.

A Really Good Healthy Fish to Eat Would Have to Be Hoki

Some of you re asking just what are the healthy fish to eat. There are several, including trout, salmon, sardines and mackerel, and as I mentioned Hoki.

These fish swim in the deep cold waters of the ocean, and they eat the plankton which makes them rich in the Omega 3 fatty acids. They are indeed the healthiest fish to eat.

However having said that, the impurities such as the heavy metals and the toxins build up in the flesh of these fish and it is not recommended that you eat them more than once a month.

To obtain the Omega 3 fatty acids that we need on a daily basis, it is recommended that you take a molecularly distilled Omega 3 fish oil supplement each day.

Another healthy fish to eat would be a flounder, this fish would be too small to allow the contaminants to build up in its flesh.

Generally speaking, if you stick to the small species of fish you really should not need to worry about them having a build up of contaminants in their flesh. A sole would be another healthy fish to eat.

I mentioned the species of fish called Hoki up above. This fish is native to the waters of the Southern Ocean just off the coast of New Zealand.

This fish in conjunction with the Tuna fish are used to make an Omega 3 supplement that has double the anti-inflammatory properties of other highly concentrated oils.

The formula to make this valuable oil was discovered by accident, and only one company knows the formula. This oil has proven itself invaluable in helping to alleviate the swellings and the pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

I mentioned that the Omega 3 supplement should have gone through the process called molecular distillation to remove the impurities such as lead and mercury. And the toxins such as the cancer causing PCBs.

However the process of molecular distillation removes the deadly PCBs. It is the only method that will get rid of them. Remember though, only buy fish oil that has been through that process.
