Purchasing Your First Jet Ski And What You Need To Know Before You Do

How many times have you been out at the lake or ocean and seen numerous people whizzing about on jet skis having the time of their life, wishing you were out there with them? They are very fast and maneuverable, and there is always plenty of splash action to keep you cool on a hot day! They are probably the number one serious rental toy at the beach at most resorts around the world, and for a good reason. They’re fun to drive!

There are many different types and models of jet skis (also called waverunners), and I’m going to run through a few of them. I’ve personally had a Sea-Doo GTX for several years and I may be somewhat biased, but I consider them to be the best and most popular selling brand. The company definitely knows how to market, and they have a lion’s share of the sales today. Sea-Doo has been around for quite a while and they’ve got a great reputation in the industry for ease of use and that they are also extremely easy to take care of and maintain. Any problems associated with Sea-Doo’s are often relatively minor, and can be usually inexpensive to fix. Of course, with any big piece of machinery there are always exceptions, and you’ll want to treat it as nicely as you can in order for you to keep enjoying the benefits of being out on the water for years to come. Seriously, I’ve seen people go out and tear apart a brand new waverunner just because they want to take it to the limit each and every time in their quest for fun. These are the people who will probably end up selling off that same waverunner within a year or two because they’ve abused it so bad it doesn’t run as well as it used to, so when purchasing a used jet ski it’s best to really learn everything about its history that you can.

Speed and maneuverability are not the only reasons to purchase a jet ski; the larger models are also great for extended touring trips or all day excursions. They are incredibly stable and some will have huge amounts of dry storage space for picnics, clothes, or other items that you may need when you stop. That has become one of my favorite reasons for having the GTX now, is just being able to take off and see where the day leads you, knowing that you’ve got everything stored away for any eventuality! The first few years that I’ve had the jet ski I used extensively in the Gulf of Mexico and salt water, and I can’t begin to tell you the things I’ve seen and experiences I’ve enjoyed with that jet ski! Imagine yourself about an hour or so from sunset just laying around on your jet ski with the motor off just enjoying life and suddenly a pod of 30 dolphins come right up and nose about chasing after fish! I’ve had that happen a few times, and it’s just one of the memorable times I can say that I’ve had with my salt water jet skiing. More recently, I’ve used my Sea-Doo mainly in fresh water lakes around the Atlanta area, and I can tell you that even though some of the lakes tend to get very crowded on weekends that it is also a very enjoyable experience! On a hot day in the summertime, there’s nothing better than hitting the lake with your jet ski to cool off and swim. I’ve found that one main difference with busy lakes as opposed to the open ocean is that you will need to keep your head on a swivel much more to avoid any collisions with other boats or people. On a busy day, there are also many waves caused by the wakes of other boats and water-skiers and you will need to keep an eye on them as well.

The difference between salt water and fresh water jet skiing can also be found in the maintenance of the vessel, and the salt really does play havoc with any exposed metals parts, especially on your trailer! As you can expect, you are totally dunking your trailer in salt water each and every time that you put your jet ski into the water, so after every use you will need to give both your waverunner and trailer a good washing to try and get as much salt off as possible. Even with that, you will still get a fair amount of rusting on the trailer, but that’s nothing to worry about. Just do your part after every use, and it should take care of you for years to come. Remember to also grease the ball bearings in the wheels every year or two (any certified shop can do this for you), because repeated dunking in salt water can wash the grease away over time. If you are using your jet ski mainly in fresh water, there is much less maintenance involved. The maintenance shop that I use suggests giving it a good wash once or twice a year, and not to worry about hosing it down after every trip out unless it’s just really dirty. Fresh water will not cause it to rust any more, but of course greasing the ball bearings at least twice a year is still recommended. If you live in an area where they actually have winter and you won’t be able to use your jet ski year round (anywhere not in Florida!), then you will also probably also need to have your battery charged back up in the springtime because it tends to lose its charge over a couple of months on non-use unless kept plugged into an outlet continuously.

Other brands of jet skis that are also very popular are Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, and Polaris. Polaris is probably the smallest company of the bunch, and you will only see these machines rarely out there. Yamaha is a very popular rental jet ski, and you will see these quite frequently on the lakes and bays. Many people will get their first experience with a waverunner from a rental company, whether it’s a nearby lake or a weeklong trip to some exotic locale. This is a great way to “get your feet wet” so to speak, but understand these rental companies will always have a governed down version of the jet ski in order to slow the speeds so that nobody will hurt themselves or hurt others. Top speed in the rental industry will rarely exceed 35 or 40 mph, and Sea-Doo even has two owners’ keys specifically for that reason. They have a “learning key” which has a top speed of about 35 mph for beginners and rental companies to use. Once the owner has mastered this speed, then they can progress up to the regular key which can have a top speed up to 70 mph or in some cases even higher! However, anything above 60 mph can be a really crazy ride, and you don’t want to fall off or be thrown off the Jet Ski at that speed! Imagine hitting concrete at those speeds, that’s kind of like the water when you’re going very fast! So be warned!

As long as you take care of you brand new Jet Ski and properly maintain it, there is no reason that it won’t provide you with many, many years of fun and enjoyment for yourself and your family. With purchasing a new jet ski, you at least know what you’re getting as far as a good machine. There will be a factory warranty and sometimes you can also purchase a nice extended warranty, and you will probably not have any initial problems with it at all. However, with a used model you really do not know what you’re getting and you’ll want to do your homework to make sure that it wasn’t abused by the owner or damaged in some way. There is a lot of opportunity for damaging the machine on the waterways, including grounding out on shoals, operating in very shallow water, hitting rocks just under the surface, running into other boats or people, or even traffic accidents on the road. It might be best to have a certified marine mechanic take a look at it before purchasing, just to make sure. There is a huge price difference between used and new however, so if you can find a used machine in great shape you will save a large amount of money between the purchase of a new machine.

I hope I covered some useful information for those of you interested in purchasing your first jet ski, and maybe gave you some things to think about to make sure you are choosing the right one. Also, to give you a good idea of the general maintenance involved and to steer you clear of the many urban legends about how having a jet ski is a bad idea and you will grow to regret it. I’ve loved every minute of my Sea-Doo, and I look back at the purchase as an impulsive buy, but a thoroughly great idea I had for years of enjoyment, both past and future! The Many Styles of Midfacial Implants For Aesthetic Facial Augmentation

The use of synthetic implants for augmenting skeletal deficiencies of the chin, cheeks, and jaw angles are common plastic surgery procedures. While these are common locations for implants, there are many more implant styles that can be used for facial enhancement of the midfacial area.

The bones of the midface have complex convexities and concavities from the prominences of the cheek to the concave surface of the maxilla. As a result, there is no one implant that can be used for all of them. Today’s midfacial implants have nine (9) different styles to meet these complex anatomical needs.

Cheek implants are the most frequently used facial implant next to that of the chin.. There are four different styles to choose. The standard cheek implant, also known as a malar implant, fits on top of the cheek bone and has a broad surface area that covers most of the external bony prominence. The two styles of this standard cheek implant differ in that the more extended version has a portion that goes up higher to make a smooth transition into the lateral orbital bone. The choice between one style vs. the other is based on how much flattening the cheek has and whether it extends up into the orbital area.

The submalar cheek implant is not the same as the malar implant. It is indicated when the cheek soft tissues are a little saggy with age and the area under the cheek prominence is a little sunken in. This implant fits on the underside of the cheek bone which helps lift up sagging tissues and fills out the sunken area under the cheek. The submalar cheek implant comes in two styles which differ in how much fullness is added to the submalar space.

The tear trough implant is a specialized lower orbital rim implant. It fills out the depressed suborbital groove that some people have naturally or develops from aging and tissue atrophy. This groove runs like a gutter from the inside of the eye downward. Instead of fat injections for augmentation of this area, a carefully placed tear trough implant provides a permanent solution.

The pyriform aperture implant fits along the bone which forms the side rim of the nasal cavity. It is designed to build out the base of the nose underneath the nostril. I have most commonly used this implant in secondary cleft surgery to build out the deficient maxillary bone where the cleft went through. But it is also helpful as part of rhinoplasty surgery when one has a flatter face.

The premaxillary or peri-pyriform implant builds out the entire base of the nose from one side of the pyriform aperture to the other. This includes anterior nasal spine area as well. For very flat midfaces, this implant can really help provide augmentation to the nose and upper lip.

The nasolabial or melo-labial groove implant fits onto the bone to the side of the nose and helps soften or build-out the very deep nasolabial fold or groove. Rather than using temporary injectable fillers placed beneath the skin, this implant placed on the underlying bone serves to provide the same push.

The Lefort or maxillary implant, the least common of all midfacial implants, is designed to be used during or after a LeFort I osteotomy. This implant would fit above the osteotomy line so that the midface would not look more deficient as the maxillary teeth come forward.

All midfacial implants, while being very different in shape and indication, share two common features. First, they are all placed from an incision inside the mouth so no skin incision is ever needed. Secondly, they are all best secured into position with a screw as their position is critical in getting the desired esthetic result.

What Is Transference and How Is It Involved With Massage Therapy?

If you are in the body-work industry, you should be very aware of transference, what it is and especially how it relates to your work. My understanding of transference is best illustrated by the following scenarios:

1. Therapist attends to a client with a headache, symptoms of a “bug,” acne, anger, fatigue, good or bad pregnancy-related issues, et al emotional scenarios. The client leaves happy, refreshed and ready for life, but the therapist suddenly, or later, starts exhibiting symptoms they didn’t have previously.

2. Client is nervous and unable to relax. Suddenly a usually-confident therapist starts feeling nervous and fidgety during the session (or the reverse scenario).

3. During the massage, the client or the therapist feels extremely powerful parasympathetic/reverse parasympathetic stimulation and begins to believe more is happening during the session than actually is. (Either could imagine they are “in love,” being “hit on,” harassed, touched inappropriately, etc).

4. Therapist and client knowingly or unknowingly disagree on the purpose of massage. (Clients can tell whether a therapist is committed to and believes in the therapy, or this is just a job and the therapist can’t wait to finish and go do other things.)

5. Client, or therapist, spends the session discussing personal matters/gossip and when they part, one or the other or both are still in the negative emotional place of the discussion.

6. Client or therapist decides when they meet that they don’t like one, the other, or each other.

7. Client has a preconceived idea of the skill set/caliber of the therapist and begins to condescend to or intimidate him/her; maybe say something negative about the establishment, etc.

8. Client has history with molestation and/or rape trauma and related issues, etc., and misconstrues “normal and professional” handling during the session as “harassment.”

9. Client gets upset during treatment (maybe the therapist forgot a “request not to do”) and either speaks angrily to the therapist, starts breathing angrily, or scowling or some other defensive reaction, verbal or non-verbal.

10. The session “takes the client to a place” they struggle or wasn’t prepared to go and this has caused an emotional release (laughter, crying, embarrassment, etc.), or physical release. (Unfair responsibility/blame, etc. can sometimes be projected in either direction.)

Any of the above illustrations will affect the business, the delivery and/or reception of service, the results of the therapy, as well as whether the client returns for follow-up care and/or whether the therapist exercises his/her right of refusal of such care. A certain “energy” change in that environment will happen and set a tone, much like when someone scorned, confident, powerful, loved, or esteemed, etc., walks into a room filled with people. That person can usually feel the “presence” of the mass and whatever the dominant energy is.

So how does one guard/shield from any energy transference? Any defense will have much to do with your belief systems and/or your own personal convictions, as well as your education. If you believe you are a conduit between the universal energy and the client, then you would know that to be effective at this task one needs to be centered, grounded and committed to being the best, purest, cleanest conduit with purpose. This is accomplished mainly by breathing, allowing energy to flow through you with limited attachment.

First, the therapist must be very confident and knowledgeable of their skill-set and especially their purpose for being in the business. Secondly, that therapist must understand their purpose for treating each client and keep “referring” to this mentally throughout treatment. Why am I touching this person and what result do I want them to have? For me, is massage just to “feel-good”? Equally important to these is BREATHING, with purpose. If the therapist is not breathing properly, hence administering self-care, he/she will interpret and react or respond to any “improper or inconvenient discovery”. The reverse of this also is true for the client. Both people need to focus on their breathing and purpose for being in that little room together regardless of the undertones. The deeper your breaths, the more oxygen your heart gets to pump and the faster the exit of energy flow to the universe; also, the more calm you’ll remain, grounded, collected and focused on the purpose at hand. When client and therapist work as a team with a common purpose or objective, there will be lots of room for the healthy benefits and enjoyment of massage therapy and less chance of transferring the unwanted.

The hands can transfer the energy, good or bad, from client to client, between therapists, and vice versa. It is imperative that each party, but especially the therapist, take care of “self” before, after and during the session, to allow for only a limited attachment to any unwanted “energy” or ailment. Wash your hands immediately after each session and before touching another person, including yourself. As soon as possible at the end of your day of giving/receiving therapy, get some cardio exercise, meditation, etc., and most definitely bathe. Depending on your convictions, as mentioned, a therapist might want to wash their clothes in preparation for the next day. Never go to bed unwashed after giving therapy to someone and if you are a client who felt some ailment or unwanted energy was transferred during your session, take another shower/bath. These are very effective in cleansing and soothing “the spirit” as well as the body.

Why use 100mg Niacin?. Once you take your first tablet you will know, within 10-20 mins your body will start to flush and itch like you have prickly heat all over, but don’t worry this will only last around 20 mins. Although this is not a long term urticaria treatment it does help. I cant tell you exactly how it works as I have read conflicting accounts, but this seems to be what happens to me. As a chronic urticaria sufferer my body seems to produce an excess of histamine, using the Niacin appears to burn away all the excess histamine & therefore clearing up my urticaria symptoms in hours rather than days.

Perhaps many medical professionals will disagree with my interpretation of how it works?, all I can tell you is, this is what happens to me.
