Bird Watching – Food to Attract Birds

Bird watching is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the country. To obtain sightings, you can either go to the birds or try to bring them to you.

Bird Watching – Food to Attract Birds

First off, birds want nothing from you with one exception. Food is that exception. Just like any animal, the next meal is nearly always on their minds. Of course, that is true for us as well, but I digress! When it comes to birding, you can go to the birds or bring them to you. If you prefer to have them come to you, an understanding of what they like to eat is important.

The most obvious food that attracts birds is bread. The image of people feeding birds in the park is an age old one and an accurate one as well. While just about any bread will due, you can do much more. Broken up muffins seem to be high on the culinary list of most birds. Cornbread and donuts are also known to bring them in.

On a less obvious note, peanuts should be a staple of your feeding arsenal. The peanuts need to be sheled as most birds have problems cracking them given their size. Unlike humans, you should avoid salted peanuts when tempting our feathered friends.

Once you have your peanuts together, you need to give some thought as to how you will present the bait. If you put the peanuts out in an open pile, you are probably going to be disappointed. Birds will simply haul them away to a secret location instead of staying around. Try putting them into the mesh bags you get with and then hanging them or tying them to something. Birds can still get the peanuts out, but they can only take a few.

Carrying the theme of peanuts a bit further, you can not go wrong with peanut butter. Frankly, the stuff is crack for birds. They love it and can not stay away. The best way to set the bait is to locate holes on your feeder or around the feeding area. Simply fill them up with peanut butter, sit back and watch. The show will start soon.

There are very few ways to attract birds to a location. Fortunately, the desire for food is near universal.

What We Need to Know About Prostate Cancer Stages

The treatment and the medication applied to a prostate cancer patient are highly dependent on the prostate cancer's stage. At some point, the amount, dosage, and nature of its medication are highly correlated to the level of the cancer cells.

A cancer stage refers to the amount to which the cancers are being spread through other parts of the body. It is a fact that cancer cells have roots, and these roots spread towards other cells to provide further damage. The stages is pre-determined according to the estimate of the cell damage, and the amount of pain the patient experiences.

In determining the prostate cancer stage, experts use the so-called TNM system which stands for Tumor / Nodes / Metastases. The system is defined through the tumor size, the number of affected nodes, and the presence of other metastases components.

The first two stages, T1 and T2 stage of the prostate cancer, it identifies the cancer as fully developed within the prostate, but the two stages have diagnosed the patient to have displayed certain symptoms of the disease. For stage I or T1, the cancer cells are unnoticeable, unless by high-powered ultrasound device and might look as normal cells though inside, it is already impacted by the tumor.

Stage 2 or T2 of the prostate cancer means that the cancer cells has been existing within the prostate and that the prostate gland is already affected of it. The cancer cells are spreading but it is within the prostate gland itself.T3 and T4 stages are quite crucical, since the cancer cells are way out of control and spreads outside the prostate gland.

It may impact the nearby glands including the reproductive organs, or it may affect the bone cells first. The T3 stage of prostate cancer is characterized by complications after the cancer cells have reached the areas outside the prostate gland. The patient at this stage is experiencing pain from other parts of the body.

T3 stage is not that rampant though since it is not far from prostate cells yet. T4 or the terminal stage of prostate cancer is also referred to the advance stage since the cancer cells have affected parts of the body and it in verge of death. If a cancer is said to be in the advance state, or the terminal stage, it is most likely to exhibit physical constants to the patient.

At any rate, even if we will try to treat it with the most recent high-technology tools, we can not guarantee the success since the terminal stage is the maturity of the cancer cells inside the body. If it is in the sunset of the growth, it is still possible for us to melt it through the use of laser equipment.

However, during the T4 stage, the cancer cells are at the maximum damage towards the body and it is already unstoppable. Some of the patients, by miracle, are being cured in this cancer stage, but majority of the patients went to rest.

It is easier to cure a cancer if it is in the sunset of the growth. However, as time passes and the cancer continues to grow rapidly over the body, it is almost impossible to stop, although we could less the growth or make it as is. By knowing the stages of the dreaded prostate cancer, we become vigilant on our body irregularities and be alarmed at once. This way, we can prevent cancer from spreading and eating up our good cells.

How Can Green Tea Benefit My Family?

No doubt you've heard of Green Tea and the health benefits you can experience from drinking it.

Are you giving your family this powerful antioxidant daily?

Here is a refreshing on some of the benefits you can experience with Green Tea.

Historically, Green Tea has been one of the world's most popular beverages. The Chinese have been drinking it for thousands of years. It is now the second most popular beverage in the world, after water!

Green tea is made from the Camellia Sinensis plant … as is black tea. The difference is that Green Tea is unfirmed, which means that the powerful antioxidant properties are fully intact.

The power of Green Tea lies in its catechin polyphenols, particularly something called epigallocatechin gallate (say that 5 times fast!). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: not only does it inhibit the growth of tumors, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.

Green Tea has been reported to:

* Assist in weight loss.

According to aa study conducted at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, Green Tea sees to help the body burn more calories.

Green Tea also slows down the release of carbohydrates in the body, preventing sharp increases in blood sugar.

I know a couple who lost ten pounds each in the first few weeks after drinking Green Tea every day, with no other changes in their diet.

* Boosts the immune system.

Green Tea is one of the most potent antioxidants available. It also contains some vitamins and minerals. Green Tea lowers the risk of cancer.

In 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking Green Tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in Green Tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells.

A study in September 1997 by the University of Kansas reported that Green Tea has the highest amount of any known antioxidant. EGCG (that tongue twisting antioxidant found in Green Tea) is 100 times more effective than Vitamin C, and twice as powerful as resveratrol (the antioxidant in red wine).

* Lowers cholesterol

University of California scientists discovered that the caffeine in coffee is bound with coffee bean oils, which raise cholesterol levels.

In contrast, research indicates that drinking Green Tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.

Green Tea Benefits Moms

* Helps with morning sickness

There are no studies that confirm this, this is a personal observation.

I had severe, prolonged morning sickness with all 3 of my pregnancies.

With my third child, I discovered Green Tea and noticed that when I drank it, not only did it ease the nausea, but it seemed to have a mild stimulating effect on my appetite and it helped me keep the food that I ate down. My guess is that the astringent effect of the polyphenols caused this.

Historically Green Tea has been used as a digestive aid. That can certainly be helpful to a pregnant woman.

* Natural energy boost

Again, I could find no studies that proved this, but I drink Green Tea primarily for the natural energy boost it gives me, without any unpleasant side effects. I used to drink a coffee in the afternoon, get shaky and hyper, only to crash later on.

Green Tea does not cause those incompetent side effects, and it also gives me the same feeling of "clearing the cobwebs" from my brain.

What Mom does not need this?

* Lowers the risk of blood clots

Green tea has been shown to be effective in preventing abnormal clotting of blood, which is especially important during pregnancy.

Green tea is non-toxic and safe. It does not cause birth defects and has no adverse affect on pregnancy or breastfeeding.

In fact, a study conducted at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program of Northern California, researchers found that women who drank more than one half cup of green tea every day doubled their odds of conceiving.

No significant association was found for other beverages, researchers concurred that some chemical component of tea might have been liable for the increase in fertility.

Green Tea Benefits Kids!

* Helps prevent tooth decay

Green Tea can kill the bacteria that causes plaque. Does your child's juice do that?

Having a hard time getting your kid to eat his veggies?

A cup of Green Tea has more antioxidant ability than a cup of broccoli or spinach!

* Helps prevent illness

Previous tests prove Green Tea can neutralize germs, including some cause cause diarrhea, pneumonia, cystitis and skin infections.

New research by Milton Schiffenbauer of Pace University finds that Green Tea deactivates viruses.

Recent research at Harvard indicated that tea chemicals stimulated T-cells that bolster immunity against bacteria and viruses.

Would fewer illnesses make life more pleasant in your home?

* Ok, so why are not you drinking Green Tea already?

If you're like me, it's because the Green Tea you've tried tastes terrible. I've tried many brands that reminded me of diaper rash ointment … no I'm not kidding! It takes some searching to find a brand that you like. You might want to sweeten it a bit with a drop of Stevia too for even more health benefits.

30 Minutes Done For Your Workout

Quick effective upper body circuit workout that is done for you. This workout can be performed at the gym or the comfort of your own home, all you need are a pair of dumbbells and a multi-angle bench. This circuit style workout consists of Tri-sets, which means you move from one exercise to the next, 3 exercises in a circuit with minimal or little rest. Tri-set training is an excellent way to add lean muscle mass to your frame and get more done in less time. Choose a weight you are comfortable with for each exercise. Remember to always start off light and you can adjust from there. This is an ideal workout for someone who is pressed for time, want to get in a great workout in minimal time that delivers results.

The focus of this 30 minute workout is to target your chest, shoulders and abdominal, this is one day of my four day a week training program. Perform each circuit for 3 sets by the third set you should reach near muscular failure. If you do not reach near failure your weights are not heavy enough.

Day One: Chest, Shoulders, Abs

(Circuit #1)

Flat bench dumbbell chest press 3 sets x 12-15 repetitions

Dumbbell military press 3 sets x 10-12 repetitions

Reverse crunches 3 sets x 20-30 repetitions

(Circuit #2)

Incline dumbbell chest press 3 sets x 12-15 repetitions

Dumbbell side lateral raises 3 sets x 10-12 repetitions

Decline crunches or regular flat bench crunches 3 sets x 20-30 repetitions

(Circuit #3)

Dumbbell flies 3 sets x 15 repetitions

Dumbbell front shoulder raises 3 sets x 12 repetitions

Dumbbell shrugs or oblique crunches 3 sets x 20 repetitions

In a typical Tri-set circuit workout you will train three to four body parts each workout. Don’t over think this process. “There are no rules to your workout.” Your possibilities are endless you can group any body parts you want as long as you target other muscles during your next session. Throw all of your traditional ideas of weight training out the door. Instead of having a strict workout plan that does not allow for change, have a workout plan that is an outline of body parts you want to work and design it as you go. You can group your body parts like so, (back, abs, biceps), (shoulders, chest, legs), (triceps, abs, legs). The key to Tri-set circuit training is to keep moving. If one of your pieces of equipment is occupied, just do another exercise for the same body part. For example if you were doing a triceps pushdown and that is occupied, you could do triceps kickback or bench dips, and come back to the pushdown later.

Mortar and Pestle Can Benefit Your Health

There is a good reason that people have been using a mortar and pestle for generations. Back in the days before everything under the sun arrived in a can, box or tube due to mass production, people actually needed to grind up herbs and spices themselves. This is yet another way that people were literally closer to the food that they consumed. Today a mortar and pestle might not be as common as it once was, but there can be little doubt that the mortar and pestle most definitely still have a place in any home.

Sometimes it is the small touches that can have a huge impact on one’s overall health. Take, for example, the mortar and pestle’s ability to impact health. Considering how inexpensive this tool is the fact is that it only makes sense to add one to your kitchen.

The Taste Benefits of a Mortar and Pestle

Having a mortar and pestle in your kitchen will definitely encourage you to grind up more fresh spices. If you have ever cooked with freshly ground spices, then you know just how much better food can taste when freshly ground spices have been added in. Moreover, spices have a tendency to naturally lose some of their taste when they have been processed. Yet, when you ground them freshly yourself, this is simply not an issue. If you like the way your food tastes then you are more likely to cook more nutritious food on a consistent basis.

Having a mortar and pestle in your home will encourage you to get more spices in your diet. In general, spices are good for your overall health and are full of nutrition, including vitamins and minerals. Thus having a mortar and pestle in your home may improve the quality of your diet.

A Mortar and Pestle Will Improve Your Recipes

Just the smell of herbs and spices might very well be enough to motivate you to get in the kitchen and cook more and experiment more. When you have a mortar and pestle around your kitchen, your friends will see it on your counter and undoubtedly gain new respect for your cooking skills.

Cooking should be fun. Having a mortar and pestle on hand will not only let you work out some of your aggression, but it will also allow you to experience cooking from a somewhat different perspective. If you have never experienced the taste sensation of fresh herbs and spices, then you are in for a real treat.

The Little Touches Add Up

The quality of one’s health can sometimes be a cumulative affair. What may seem like small touches can add up to be rather significant over the long term. In this way a mortar and pestle’s ability to encourage you to use more herbs and spices is a small change that can have a substantial long term impact. Just think of all the flavorful meals that you will make as well once you’ve started grinding up your own fresh herbs and spices!

Evaporative Cooler Bearings

Oil The Bearings Regularly

Oiling and inspecting your Swamp Cooler or Evaporative Cooler bearings can save you major headaches and expense. On most of the commonly used Coolers, oiling the bearings is a very simple job. The majority of residential and small commercial models originally come with a bronze bearing. There are no moving parts to these bearings as there are with ball bearings. Bronze bearings are made with a sleeve of bronze inside a steel die-cast housing. The blower shaft spins inside the bronze sleeve. These type of bearings allow for a smooth, low friction motion between the two solid surfaces. The bronze portion of the bearing is generally about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch thick and is porous for continuous lubrication. You will see an oil cup at the top of the bearing. Open the cup and then drop about 5 – 10 drops of lightweight machine oil into the oil tube. This should be done at least once a year for light Cooler use, or several times a year for heavy use. Even though bronze bearings are relatively inexpensive they are quite durable. Often times, if you oil them regularly and the belt tension is maintained correctly, the bearings will last for the lifetime of your Evaporative Cooler.

Inspect Your Bearings

It is very important that you inspect the bronze sleeve thickness when you are oiling the bearings. As I mentioned earlier, the sleeve of bronze in the bearing is only about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch thick. The steel blower shaft is continuously spinning within the bronze sleeve. If the steel shaft eventually wears through the bronze sleeve, then you have steel spinning on steel. Steel spinning on steel always makes a loud, high pitched noise somewhat similar to the sound of a loose belt squeal. Once again it is very important that you inspect the thickness of the bronze sleeve. When any part of the bronze sleeve has worn to half of it’s original thickness the bearing should always be changed. If you let the bearing get to the point of steel spinning on steel, you have damaged the blower shaft. When the shaft has been damaged, you will never be able to use a bronze bearing again. The rough shaft will quickly wear through a new bronze bearing. At this point I would recommend that you install a more expensive ball bearing with set screws in the inner race. This will attach the inner race of the bearing to the blower shaft and the shaft damage will not cause any future problems. Also if the ball bearing ever goes out it will never damage the blower shaft.

Changing Your Cooler Bearings

Unlike most other types of blower units Evaporative Coolers are continuously producing moist air which creates rust on the bearings, blower shaft, and pulleys. This often makes it much more difficult to change the bearings. There are two things that I always recommend when you are changing Cooler bearings. Use a penetrating solvent on any parts that are rusted together. This often happens on the blower pulley and shaft, as well as the inner race of a ball bearing and shaft. Even after using a penetrating solvent I have at times had to use a pulley puller to remove the blower pulley. The other recommendation that is very important, you must always sand the rust off of the blower shaft before pulling the blower pulley or bearing. If you do not sand all the rust off the shaft, you will not only have problems removing the pulley and bearing, it will be very difficult to slide the new one onto the shaft. You might also be tempted to use a hammer to drive the new bearing into place, which often can damage the bearing. As you can see, a few pieces of sand cloth to sand the rust off of the shaft will make the job much easier and actually save you time in the long run.

Work and Asbestos Related Diseases, Part Three

If you are an asbestos worker ask the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) or your employer about the asbestos control program in your workplace or about the management program for asbestos in buildings.

Control programs are very important to be carried out in workplaces where there are hazardous minerals like asbestos that can affect workers with severe pathologies such as malignant mesothelioma cancer, malignant lung cancer or asbestos related disease among others.

Other important thing is to visit the doctor regularly to stay informed about your health, (but this one must be specialist in the disease) whether or not you work or work in contact with asbestos at your job. He can order you different exams in order to know the current state of your health.

The law states that you can choose to be part of a medical surveillance program if it is needed. Every two years, the employee will offer and pay for the medical surveillance program in such case.

According to experts a program of medical surveillance includes chest x-rays, lung functions tests, regular physical exams and medical and work history tracking.

Through a medical surveillance program like this it will be possible to help you to find an asbestos-related disease or other related conditions early, and stop them on time and do not get worse.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) may help you to find out if you are entitled to compensation if you worked exposed to asbestos, analyzing your medical report, after you talk will your employer and file a claim with the WSIB if you have an asbestos-related disease.

In conclusion, there are many things that you have to do for prevent developing of asbestos related disease, but the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) could have been very useful and a good start point. Particularly in the case of compensations for by asbestos related workers.

Normal Blood Sugar Levels In Adults

Lifestyle can also keep a person from health risks or complications due to low or high sugar levels. With weight control and proper diet, you can refrain from being dependent on glucose control medications.

Blood sugar or glucose is the amount of sugar in our bloodstream. The sugar or glucose in our body is determined by a lot of factors including metabolism, exercise and the food that we consume. Glucose levels are measured and given recorded values. We should maintain normal sugar levels throughout the day but it is still normal to have at least a small spike or dip in blood glucose after or before meals.

There are numerous tests that are done in order to monitor blood glucose level. The easiest way to check your blood is with a blood sugar monitor. This test only needs a sample of your blood and placed on a glucose meter. The meter will then give a reading and the number will be the one to determine the amount of glucose in the blood. This test is usually done a few times a day to monitor the blood sugar preferably during the morning, after mealtime and before sleeping. For accurate readings, blood sample is drawn and processed in a laboratory. For this test, the doctors will check the hemoglobin levels which will give them the average 3-month reading of the glucose level in their blood.

Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia are illnesses or complications caused by not normal blood sugar in the body. Hyperglycemia is a condition wherein sugar levels are very high while hypoglycemia is a condition wherein sugar levels are very low.

The United States Needs a Sports Minister to Fight Obesity

Citizens of the United States of America are beginning to get very fat and although no one wants to be called fat they are rather obese. The United States of America therefore needs a sports Minister to help fight this obesity problem and prevent diabetes from overrunning our health-care system. We can not afford to have 30% of our population with diabetes, as it leads to all kinds of other health ailments and diseases.

During the Presidency of George Bush Sr. you may recall that Arnold Schwarzenegger had put together a fitness plan and was touring around helping children in school in their PE or physical education programs. We need to get back to that, but this time we need a sports minister and cabinet member to the president of the United States of America.

I propose that this be a permanent Cabinet member of every pending new presidential administration. This will be someone who will help not only children but also get America back walking again. Even older folks need to walk between two and 3 miles per day.

This will increase life longevity, prevent early health issues which will cost taxpayers billions of dollars in the future and it will bring a positive outlook to our citizenry because they will be fit and healthy. There is not one single good argument against this proposal and therefore I rest my case. Make it so and get it done.

Diabetes and Carbohydrates

Diabetes is often thought to be linked with eating too much sugar, which is a myth. This article will explain the link between carbohydrates and diabetes, and because being aware of your carbohydrates intake can be beneficial to your blood glucose level.

Diabetes is a condition where your insulin production or the way that your body uses insulin is impaired. In Type 1 diabetes, which commonly starts in childhood but can occur at any age, your body destroys its insulin-producing cells, so that you are left without any insulin and have to inject insulin at least daily (more commonly 4 times or more) , or or wear a continuous insulin infusion pump 24 hours a day, for the rest of your life.

In Type 2 diabetes, you develop what is known as 'insulin resistance', where you still produce insulin but it does not work effectively, so in order to have enough 'working insulin' you need to produce much more than other people. It is difficult to sustain this high level of insulin production, so over time this declines as the cells start to get worn out, and that is when diabetes appears. If you are overweight, you are likely to have a higher degree of insulin resistance than someone who is slimmer, which is why you have a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Insulin is a hormone, and is essential to help glucose (sugar) move out of your bloodstream and into all the cells in your body to provide energy. If you do not have enough insulin doing this job, the glucose places in your bloodstream and your cells do not have enough energy.

Carbohydrate is the main food that you get energy from, and all types of carbohydrates are digested down into glucose to be able to make that energy available. This is why carbohydrates is linked to diabetes.

So what should you do in relation to the carbohydrate you eat? Well, it is different for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

In Type 1 diabetes, the treatment aim is to replace insulin to copy what your body would normally produce. So you need some long-acting insulin to use over 24 hours (or an insulin pump to provide a constant supply), plus additional quick-acting insulin to match your meals. The most successful way of managing Type 1 diabetes is to be able to work out how much carbohydrates your food contains, and to be able to match the amount of quick-acting insulin to that. So with Type 1 diabetes, you can eat any food you like as long as you match your insulin to it.

With Type 2 diabetes, you will probably still be producing some insulin of your own, at least in the early years of having the condition. But your insulin production will be a bit slow and sluggish, and you will not be able to suddenly produce large amounts of insulin to match your food. You may have tablets to combat the insulin resistance and provide your body with support in using its available insulin effectively, or even be injecting insulin, but your insulin resistance will mean that you can still get high blood glucose levels after meals which take a long time to go back to normal.

So you can still eat what you want if you have Type 2 diabetes, but if you want to try and avoid too high a blood glucose level after meals, it is better to eat foods that contain carbohydrates that digest more slowly, so your body is more likely to be able to cope with the demand for insulin. So foods like potatoes, rice and cereals will release their sugar more slowly than sweets or sweet desserts.

The 3 Major Symptoms of Candidiasis

Oh, thrush, candidia, candidiasis, yeast infection. Whatever you call it it’s very distracting in the least – debilitating at it’s worst. So you know the main feeling, that intolerable itch, but did you know that there are other signs too?

Candidiasis causes trouble in three notable ways by affecting the;

  • skin,
  • mucus membranes
  • internal organs.

Let’s start with the obvious;

A fungal infection on the skin is usually superficial but still extremely annoying. Signs of a candidia infection on the skin are:

A rash in damp, dark places or in folds of skin for example – under the armpits, under breasts, behind the knees, between toes and in nailbeds. Diaper rash is also caused by one of the candida fungi family – as is ‘ringworm’. Tinea and Jock itch are others. The rash is usually itchy and may be painful. Because fungi love damp, dark places the mucus membranes are a fungi heaven!

Whether in the mouth or down in the nether regions, candidiasis in these areas should be taken seriously and treated promptly but carefully as these are prime sites for the infection to move internally from.

Symptoms of an oral yeast infection include;

White patches on the cheeks and tongue, even in between dentures! (how cheeky is that?) The skin may bleed when the white growth is scrapped off. Infants in particular are prone to this and care should be taken when breastfeeding as it is easily transmitted from mother to baby. Of course the biggest and some would say most cruel symptom of a yeast infection is when it affects the sexual organs.

Infections in the genitalia cause; a white discharge (often described as ‘cottage cheese’) that; itches and burns like nothing on earth and irritates the entire area. There may also be pain with sex and/or burning when peeing. In extreme cases small blisters may appear on the affected area.

Often there can be no symptoms, which is kind of scary because you may not even realise that these guys have attacked until they have moved into a secondary infection.

When the candidia infiltrate the internal organs and systems they cause a list of symptoms that is both vague and varied. From a yeast infection in the esophagus causing ulcers throughout the digestive tract; to full on clinical systemic infection (like fevers, nausea or rapidly spreading rash) to more subtle symptoms like joint pain, fatigue or migraines. Candidiasis may be attributed to them all.

Managing Acne While Pregnant

Any woman knows that when she is pregnant, there are hundreds if not thousands of things that she can and can not do, like drinking, smoking, over-doing it while working out, and the list goes on. The same goes with acne. There are lots of things that all pregnant women that have acne problems should know. In order to protect you and the baby, there are some tips and tricks that you will find helpful.

Cleanness is a very important part of controlling acne break-outs and protecting your child. You'll want to always make sure you wash your hands after you eat or go to the bathroom. If you do not, you are promoting the spread of bacteria which effects not only your skin but all parts of your body as well. Exercising is another good idea in order to keep blood flowing to all part of the body, stimulating your health and well-being, therefore keeping your baby safe as well. Make sure to be strict on your nutrition, eating lots and lots of fruits and vegetables that also play in good skin.

If you are a pregnant woman that has problems with acne, it is especially important to remember to wash your face thoroughly at least two times a day. This keeps bacteria and dirt from creeping in and spreading and intensifying your acne. When you cleanse your skin and the infected areas, make sure that you do not rub away too much of the oil, as your body needs a certain level to maintain healthy pores in the skin. When you use soap to wash your face make sure you get all of it off so it doesnt clog any pills leading to worse acne.

Never rub near the area of your acne because if you do it spreads the bacteria around and leads to more break-outs. After you clean the skin on your face, pat it dry and use a thin film of oil to put on your face which will help combat bacteria and therefore help your skin to beat the acne.

It is also very important that when you are pregnant to watch what oral anti-biotic medication you are taking for acne, if any. Most are not a good idea and you will want to consult a doctor before you start on any. It's a good idea just to be safe to use oils, lotions, foams, or facial scrubs as a replacement for antibiotics as they can be dangerous to you and to your baby.

Make sure you learn all you can about having and treating acne when you are pregnant. Because now you have two people to consider instead of just yourself, so every decision you make concern your own health should be an informed one.

Cabbage Soup Diet – The Nutritional Value of the 7-Day Diet

The Cabbage Soup Diet has been the subject of a diet controversy. Experts say that the diet is one of the unhealthiest ones in the market today. It can guarantee 10 pounds worth of weight loss in one week if followed strictly. However, experts say that what you lose is mostly water weight and lean muscle tissue and not fat. Because of the dangerously low calorie content, it can result in certain medical repercussions. Some of the cage soup dieters have reported fatigue, irritability and loss of concentration which are quite normal for people who are consuming very little food.

Advices from Medical Experts

Medical experts also advise against taking the diet for more than 1 week because doing so can result in malnourishment or sickness. The Cabbage Soup Diet is actually a seven-day diet that is recommended for people who need to drastically lose weight. Its origins are unknown although some theories have surfaced as to where and when it started. Some people say this is a diet designed for trainees in the military. Others say the diet was created for diabetics who needed to lose weight fast for surgical procedures. However, there has no confirmation for this yet.

The criticisms against the diet have far outweighed the benefits. Although the Cabbage Soup Diet has been proven to be unhealthy for long-term weight loss, cabbage still has nutritional value that can supplement the diet. Cabbage is rich in manganese, calcium and potassium, as well as phosphorus, iron and magnesium. A green leafy vegetable, it is an excellent source of fiber that can help in digestion and prevent constipation. A regular source of fiber can also prevent the occurrence of colon cancer and other digestive problems.

Cabbage is also a source of folate and omega-3 fatty acids, known to help with brain development in young children as well as maintain a sharp mind in adults. Aside from Vitamin C, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6 and riboflavin can be found in cabbages as well as some amounts of vitamin A, vitamin k and protein content. Cabbage has been found to have very low calorie content and is therefore perfect for weight loss. In a head of cage, only about 25 calories can be found. It has almost zero saturated fat content and cholesterol. It contains no carbohydrates.

The Cabbage Soup Recipe

The Cabbage Soup recipe includes green onions and green peppers, the first being rich in carbohydrates, potassium and dietary fiber and the latter contains riboflavin, thiamin, niacin, vitamin C, calcium, iron and magnesium. Tomato which forms as the liquid base of the soup is rich in vitamin C and A, almost 20 percent of the recommended daily diet allowance. It has some amounts of iron and is fiber-rich. An antioxidant called lycopene is present in tomatoes which are known to fight against certain forms of cancer. Celery is fiber-enriched and is known to fight constipation. It also contains vitamin C.

Although the nutritional content of the Cabbage Soup Diet may be rich in some nutrients, its obvious lack of protein or carbohydrates makes it unhealthy a choice for a diet. It is advisable for short-term diets but it is not advisable on a long-term basis because of its ill-effects. If you are looking for a drastic loss in weight, this is ideal but its effects should be considered before undertaking the diet.
