Soft Vs Hard Skills – Pros and Cons?

We have been facing different challenges in different stages throughout our academic, social and work lives. All these will be either the “Soft” or “Hard” skills which will govern our success in either areas we pursue. In order to achieve success, we shouldn’t be concentrating on the “HARD” skills alone which we describe as your “Technical” skills in your own domain expert areas. We will need to build on our “SOFT” skills. The questions that we need to ask ourselves are “What are the Pros and Cons of Soft vs Hard Skills or vice versa?” and “Which is more important?” How do we unleash our inner Soft Skills Strength in any arena?

The followings are some and not limited to areas that I found more appropriate for further discussions for anyone who wish to build on their Soft Skills which will be complimenting their Hard Skills in the Business and Social World!

  1. Customer Assessment skills (Mentality and Reaction)
  2. “Need Vs Want” Thought Analysis skills
  3. “Cause and Effect” Impact Analysis skills
  4. Mental Vs Physical Observation skills
  5. “Listen, Digest and Query” skills
  6. Team Building skills
  7. “Share” vs “Take” skills

All the above are some ingredients or points that I have experienced throughout my Social and Business work arena. So, this doesn’t contribute to the full range of Soft Skills that most people understand. Instead, these are the areas that I believe we need to build on as foundation towards greater heights.

“Hard” skills can be obtained through a series of structured in-class or online lecturing and tutoring. Whereas “Soft” skills learning and sharpening, on the other hand, are not that straight forward. You will have to undergo a series of interaction and scenarios to fully understand how each areas will have impact on the end result. To fully maximise the above, we have to first understand ourselves in terms of our inner natural personality and characters. How do we leverage on the following to be more successful.

1. Customer Assessment skills (Mentality and Reaction)

Every one may have already been in this position before one way or the other but how many of you really understand what exactly is the Customer’s mentality and reaction towards certain engagement? Why is there an co-relation between a customer and supplier relationship? An individual can be a customer at one end and also a supplier on the other hand, this is so if we are an intermediary business who rely on suppliers for their products to fulfill our production and sell it to our customers (end products consumption).

So, how would you be able to assess a customer’s request and mentality? This can be accomplished or fulfilled through the fostering of an interactive conversation with the customers in the following areas:

  • Learn to interact efficiently with Q & A
  • Gather information with proper data capture
  • Understanding the input and output results of the customer business activities
  • How would the customer requires your assistance?
  • What are the Critical Success Factor (CSF) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) from the customer viewpoint?
  • Demand and Supply model
  • Need basis with Value-added services

In summary, If you are able to gather the above points, you will be able to understand how the customer’s requirements and NEEDs instead of WANTs be fulfilled for a long-term Value-Added services. This will be discussed in the next section.

2. “Needs Vs Want” Thought Analysis Skills

What are the differences between the two and their final end results? How will this factor impact your long-term relationships with your customers (either external or internal). Through my past observation and experiences, “Want” thought is usually arises from the Human nature and desires! This is not a long-term requirements as this will only arise due to some of the following factors.

  • Peer pressure
  • Environment, Social and Technological advancement
  • Internal physical and mental desire
  • Product Evolution

I have only list the above factors that I have faced and encountered from my past experiences. The above may not be the final factors that affects the human nature and desires for the “Want” thought. Please bear in mind that it is not in any order of importance. Instead if you do understand this, it will definitely help you in analyse situation. This is an area that is not very straight forward as individual may or may not even know what is their “needs” or what do they “want”? That’s the obstacles that everyone has to overcome and clear the path. Until that time, you will probably be satisfying your customers through the “Want” instead of the long-term “Needs”.

In summary, “Needs” are long-term requirements that will build Value-Added services towards achieving certain objectives such as Cost Control, Cost Savings, Profit leaping, etc. Meanwhile, the “Want” will only be able to satisfy the short-term and unrealistic value that may not even impact anything except the human desire nature.

3. “Cause and Effect” Impact Analysis Skills

It may seem that this may not have any great impact for the success of individual utilizing their own inner Soft Skills in the Social and Business world. But I strongly believe on this and I have already faced a couple of scenarios which have hinder the progress of certain assigned projects.

Let’s look at how “Cause” can have certain “Effect” on Customer / Supplier relationships. In this universe, we are always surrounded with the “Cause” and “Effect” results which not many of you may have encountered during this lifetime but it will most likely happen in the business world. If you do not understand or have mistaken the “Needs” of the customer, the “Effect” will multiply when you are about to deliver the end products or results.

The worst scenarios will probably a total rejection from the customers and this in turn will have a very great impact on the company’s profit and loss margin. Therefore, in order not to fall into this trap. You will have to look further into your inner Soft Skill to assist you in determining the “Needs” and the impact on this. Please bear in mind, this is not just 1 factor that may affect the overall result but without proper TEAM work will also lead to the negative results.

In summary, “Cause” will always lead to the direct “Effect” on the end results. It may be a very huge impact if this is not handled cautiously through proper Tracking and Analysis work. In order to achieve this and also unleash your strength within, nobody will be more successful with the cohesiveness of TEAM effort!

4. Mental Vs Physical Observation Skills

Most of you may be wondering why is “Mental” and “Physical” Observation skills are also part of the Soft Skills in my context. You may also be wondering how will Mental observation being carried out during the social and business interaction session. Why is Mental observation is more accurate than physical observation skills? This will definitely bring us back the “Need” and “Want” though analysis skills. We did say that “Need” is more a long-term requirements than “Want” which is only a human nature desire on a very short-term basis.

So, Mental will probably be working hand in hand with the “Need” analysis technique which will provide an insight understanding of what exactly the other party’s “Need” in the long-term requirements. But not every individual will be able to exercise this skill unless you are fully aware of how exactly Mental Observation skills work?

Mental in itself means nothing but it you coupled with the “Need” analytical skills to gather information, you will be able to outweigh the “Physical” observation results. But there are incidents or situation that prohibit you from maximizing or exercising the former skill. I have only managed to master this skill through extensive Social networking and interaction with people. Not just interaction but gathering and analyzing on each individual’s “Need” Vs “Want”. This can be done through the series of points listed in the sub-heading of “Need” Vs “Want” Thought Analysis Skills. This skill will need to be sharpened through full interaction with others and not through any books or article which explains the process.

In summary, Mental Observation skill doesn’t stand out by itself but will require coupling with the “Need” Analysis skill in order to fulfill the end results. This is targeting on the long-term requirements of the customers.

5. “Listen, Digest and Query” Skills

There are many times when I was involved in the group conference calls or meetings in either the business or the social work environment, I always faced with different categories of associates, staff or team members. Some may be very involved in asking a lot of questions, some may be providing a lot of explanation or answers and some even just quietly sit through the entire session without anybody notice his / her existence.

Therefore, it may not be very effective if you are always the person who is the Inquirer, the Speaker or the Listener. The worst thing will be the last category which will be the “ALL YES” group of audience. As this group will just accept anything along the way but back out when things not in favour of the right directions. So, in order to provide or unleash this, you will definitely need to learn the “Listen, Digest and Query” skills which allow you to capture all requirements at the fullest.

Once you have exercise the “Listen” technique, you will be able to listen and capture the right information for the right decision to be made at the later stage! When you have managed this part, the “Digest” portion is where you will analyze and evaluate the captured information before next level of confirmation. If during this time, any uncertainties arises, you will be able to “Query” more on the presented information and clarify on the accuracy of it. Most of the time, a lot of people will just jump into final conclusion after the “Digest” level which may or may not have unexpected uncertainties which may surface later.

In summary, “Listen, Digest and Query” should be exercised at all times whether are you in a Social gathering or the Business meetings. This will definitely eliminate any unwanted conflicts at the later stage and foster a better relationships in a long-term basis.

6. Team Building Skills

Throughout my entire years either in the Social, Volunteer or Career arena, I truly believe that nobody can survive in a “Lone Ranger” mentality or world! Everyone needs everyone to fulfill the main goals or end result. Just like a building can only be constructed with a team of expertise, without any of these expertise, we will not be able to have a complete standing building to work or live in.

Therefore, we will need to ensure that we have already learned to blend into any teams to work together to achieve the common goals. This skill is not like any other soft skills, it can be taught and mentored through a series of guidance. It all depends on individual’s acceptance level in terms of their achievements through mentorship. Working in teams will also provide a full advantage of the right assignments carried out by the right expertise at the highest level of confidence and end results.

So, please bear in mind that all humans need team to survive or achieve certain goals or objectives. During this team building you will also learn to exercise the “Share” instead of the “Take” mentality. In my context of “Sharing” means voluntarily provide your expertise and teach or guide others who wish to learn and excel towards their goals! This kind of act will be regarded as “Contributor” attitude towards any individual and will achieve greater heights. But not all individuals have the ability to share their knowledge or anything as it all depends on individual capacity or experiences or exposure towards the achievements. Some individuals will only be “taking” most of the inputs which will make them as “Doers” rather than “Achievers” or “Leaders”.

In summary, “Share” is always good for building a strong team who will in turn assist you in any manner to achieve anything that you have set forth. By “Sharing” you are also mentoring or guiding younger achievers towards greater heights in their endeavours.

7. “Share” Vs “Take” Skills

In the earlier section, I have mentioned about the differences between the “Share” Vs “Take” skills. Let’s now look at it in more detail.

There are people who may think that “why should I share so much?” and “What if I am overtaken by sharing too much?” and “What if I lose my job or become outdated after sharing my knowledge?” If you have any of this mentality or queries, then you may not even know the nature of “Sharing” and how it attracts similar forces or category of personality.

When you start your undivided sharing, you are already elevated to the next level which is the mentor. At this level, you have already achieved certain level of accomplishment in your skill sets! It is at this level, when you share, you will also build on new knowledge from other people. My principle and experiences already told me that with more sharing, you gain more in terms of your expertise knowledge. This is the law of energy and synergy where each parties in the group will be of the same qualities and mentality.

In fact, I will not forgo the fact that there are a lot of people who are what I termed as “Taker” who only takes in what other people’s sharing. They may or may not be in the upper hand as they will ultimately obsolete from the sharing group after realizing the zero contributing factor by this group. So, if we wish to excel in the world in any form, let’s not be too controlled over your sharing what you know and what you have learnt. If you are able to open your height and mind on this, positive results will also waiting for the right success.

In summary, “Sharing” is an act of virtue and mentorship without any intentions of any expectations of returns from anyone! It will be the most generous part of your heart and it will build a stronger and better relationships from anyone who comes into your path either Social, Volunteer or Career world.

All the above are based on my past experiences and also lesson learnt through the Social, Volunteering, Career and also Business world environment! I am sharing this is to provide some insight to all of you on how you can unleash your inner Soft Skills to achieve greater heights in life. I did not cover all the skill sets as I feel that the above are the possible core ingredients that we should be working on before moving on to other skill sets. If you feel that, there are missing elements in the article, please do let me know and I am more than willing to discuss or explore further with you. I do wish that you have enjoyed the article and feel free to provide your feedback or comments (if any) so that I can improve myself further. My principle is to share as much as I can and learn as much as I can from anyone with the same level of interest.

Sinuses – Despite Some Debate As to It’s Impact, What We Eat Does Matter

To what extent the food we eat affects our sinuses has been an ongoing debate for sometime. But rather than getting involved into the theoretical, allow me to tell you about my experience, which probably is not unique. Other people I have known with sinus pressure and related problems seem to agree with the basic conclusion I have arrived at. This is based on several years of observing the effect that food has had on my sinus.

There is an awareness, like never before, of the importance that nutrition plays in a person’s health. What someone wrote many years ago that “we are what we eat” seems to be gaining relevance as nutritional research probes deeper into the correlation between health and the food we eat. Manufacturers of foods are very conscious of this awareness by the way they label their products. Foods containing low or unsaturated fat, natural ingredients, low or no sugar added, low cholesterol, etc., are conspicuously labeled this way.

It should not come as a surprise to many if I were to tell you that what I eat does affect the condition of my sinuses. Let me be blunt: If I want to have a sinus headache and/or post nasal drip (PND) I can have one anytime I so desire. All I have to do is have some foods and that’s it !

Research has shown again and again the correlation between a diet containing certain foods and the incidence of certain other health problems such as heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, etc. This relationship is accepted by almost everyone. And the reverse is also becoming common knowledge, too: The lack of certain nutritional elements can also bring about unwanted health results. And so with sinus health. I believe that wrong eating has more to do with sinus pressure and other sinus ailments than many would had imagined.

Without meaning to get religious, it is interesting to note that modern nutritional research science seems to corroborate what the Bible Book of Genesis states about the original diet our Maker gave humankind–which some would say is still the best for us: Grains, fruits, nuts and vegetables(Genesis Chapter 1, verse 11; Chapter 2, verse 9; and Chapter 3, verse 18.) Research has also shown that when one adheres to a diet that contains primarily these natural foods a person lives longer and is healthier (e.g., Loma Linda University-Adventist Health Studies Number 1 and 2; 1974-1988; 2002 – present, respectively.)

In conclusion, those of us who suffer or have suffered from sinus pressure and other related sinus ailments would do well to consider the impact of certain foods on our sinus conditions . Plain common sense tell some of us to avoid them as much as possible. If we want the joy of having clear sinuses, freedom from PND, no more sinus headaches, etc., re-considering what we eat is a step in the right direction.

The African Lion and Pride Dynamics

Easily the most majestic mammal in the animal kingdom, the African lion has been considered the king of beasts since antiquity; the feline even holds a spot in the Holy Bible as a premier animal. Framed by a golden mane and harboring a ferocity and bravery unmatched by most other animals, the lion is also the only social cat – in the sense that its entire life revolves around the pride.

The other big cats, such as the leopard, jaguar and tiger, are definitely solitary animals and meet up infrequently to mate. In the case of the tiger, in particular, the self-established hunting boundaries of a male and female may overlap somewhat.

The boundaries of males NEVER overlap, because entering the territory of one male leads to a fight for dominance. The offending tiger isn’t merely encroaching on potential food; he is also encroaching on potential female mates – which is an absolute no-no in the animal kingdom. This is a constant theme among any of the animals – whether they’re carnivores or herbivores.

The Lion Pride

On the plains of Africa, a lions pride is usually comprised of a bevy of female lions – known as lionesses – many cubs, and several male lions. The females are almost always related, as it is rare for a pride to accept an alien as their own – although it does happen. There are sisters, mothers, daughters and the occasional grandmother as the female contingent. The males are usually brothers, with one dominant lion that is the only one who breeds with all the females.

The other male lions are there for protection against external threats, and even though they are relatively subordinate to the dominant male, they all eat first from the females’ kill. Usually, these males roam their established range, leaving marks and droppings to signal their territory to passing denizens of the plains. Sometimes, the brothers eventually leave the pride of their dominant sibling in search of their own feline harems.

Lion Cubs and the Lion Pride

Although the pride of African lions is very much a family, the beginnings of a new male’s rule can be as brutal as anything ever witnessed by man. After defeating or running off the former, usually aging king, a coalition (or single) male lion will then hunt down his offspring.

Upon finding them, a one-sided bloodbath commences, as the African lion mauls them all so that the females will once again come into estrus; his sole intent is to father his own exclusive line. The lionesses reluctantly watch this, unable to do anything about the familial carnage being wrought by the 500 lb. behemoth. Their father wasn’t strong enough to ward off the danger, and the circle of life must first resume with a harbinger of death.

Shortly afterwards, the dominant male African lion will mate with all the of-age females and truly claim the pride as his own, by bringing forth new life that all carry his genes. The cubs will be born, and the father lion will be playful and gruff with them; although the task of raising them and bringing them to teen age lies with the lionesses of the pride, all of whom serve as a collective motherhood.

One day, the male cub lions will come of age and leave the pride to find their own stables – after all, the of-age females are all his sisters. The lioness cubs will grow and almost always remain within the pride, as their mothers age and someday pass on. Their father and possibly uncles will pass on, too – although they are usually killed by young upstarts, who then begin the cycle all over again.

The Different Types of Weaknesses Which Effect Us

By understanding the different kinds of weaknesses you have, you will find that you are a much stronger and better person through accepting what you can change and what you cannot. The other benefit of knowing about the different kinds of weaknesses is that you will be better prepared when dealing with people. Knowing how to prepare for a cultural or species weakness for example, will help prevent your getting into trouble as well as getting upset by what someone will do.

Here we will explore the limitations that we must endure as human beings, and the ones that we can correct which will drastically improve our life. We shall begin with dividing all weaknesses into four categories; species, cultural, physical body and personal.

Weaknesses of the species are more important than those of the culture and body because they are so common they are taken as normal and thus ignored. We will expand on these last.

The weaknesses of the culture are things that you have learnt which limit you. If you are a westerner, the idea of eating bugs may disgust you, but if you are in Africa for example, bugs may be the only food source, and the locals eat it, but you would be repulsed. Perhaps it is the type of bed that you have grown accustomed to and cannot sleep well on too soft or too hard a bed. Types of food, accommodation and other things which are very different from one culture to another, even the way of speaking, harsh or gentle, loud or soft, all these things are cultural differences which could make it uncomfortable for you to travel or deal with another person. Any such limitation is a cultural weakness.

These weaknesses are acquired through the culture and country you grow up in, and so are the easiest to change. It is important for you to know the difference between a cultural weakness and a personal one because the cultural ones are usually viewed as normal and natural behavior rather than as a weakness unless you travel to very different cultures and environments in which you can see the differences and admire the other ways. Sadly, this opportunity is very rare as the world becomes more standardized. Many aspects of your life will improve by finding cultural weaknesses, and reversing them into strengths.

The weakness of the physical body is obvious, how it can be hurt and how easily it gets sick. We can do nothing about these weaknesses other than eat and exercise well, keep ourselves in as good a physical condition as possible, and avoid danger and damage as much as we can. Being aware of these weaknesses will keep you alert and more thoughtful about your future health.

Then there are your personal weaknesses. These are habits and preferences, likes and dislikes, which make you do or not do certain things. Personal weaknesses are fears or limitations you have that most people even in your same country or family do not. You may have a weakness for good food, and so overeat all the time. You may have a fear of water and so cannot partake of many adventures, perhaps a fear of flying and so you cannot travel. These weaknesses can be overcome and they are the ones to focus on along with those of the species.

Personal weaknesses are based in your personality ego and are learnt through bad experiences or being told and taught what you should be afraid of. An overprotective parent will tell the child that this and that is dangerous and to be scared or not touch something at all. That will develop a learnt fear and thus limiting weakness. For example, I used to have a totally inexplicable fear of knives. One day I was visiting my mother and she mentioned how scared of knives she is. It clicked that my fear was foolishly adopted and instantly my fear dissolved. One less personal weakness!

If you grew up in a large family, you may have a need to always be around people, or you get nervous. The opposite holds equally true, having a fear of being in big crowds because you grew up in the countryside with lots of space and few people around. Either of these conditions may prevent you from going to places that you would benefit from but are scared or dislike going to. When I lived in upstate New York (countryside), some friends from a small town in Colorado came to visit. I wanted to take them to see Manhattan but they refused. They were simply too scared to be in a big city with that many people!

Limitations are weaknesses, and there are ways to conquer many of our personal weaknesses. You can start with simply trying to do what you are scared of as best you can and see what changes. You will find as you work on the species aspect, that your personal aspect will improve automatically. Personal weaknesses are always due to events creating a fear by implanting a memory. Reviewing the memory and facing the cause of the fear helps eliminate it.

Now we will go deeper into the weaknesses of the species. Like it or not, you are subject to the same flaws that effect all humans. You do have the choice however, to put in effort to overcome these limitations, however if you do not fully acknowledge that you are subject to them, there is no hope.

I will tell you what I have discovered over my life in many countries, and I suggest that you verify through reviewing your experiences, or start to take note of weaknesses you notice as you live each day. This list is far from complete or it would be a very long list, and it is more useful to you if you look and find some for yourself. This helps conquer the first weakness on my list. I would also like to make it clear before we go further, that not all people have all these weaknesses, but rather all weaknesses are either active or dormant within all of us. It is a matter of what you have conquered, suppressed or controls you.

The good side is that there is a benefit to many of these weaknesses if they are understood and refined to be used properly. Where I can find a good side, that has also been described.

Just because you may not see a weakness in you that is on my list, does not mean that you are not subject to it coming out given the right circumstances. I am sure you have seen people change when certain events happen or they enter a different phase of their life. The only way to a continually growing life is to be aware of where we may get tripped up, this is the second item on the list.

Lazy. Humans are lazy by the design of nature. This is a good quality gone bad with lack of comprehension and guidance. If used correctly, being lazy is efficient. If you are lazy, you basically do not want to work, this is a good idea because the more we work at anything, the more energy we use and stress we put on our body, which will wear it out quicker. Athletes know about this very well as their bodies wear out and have a lot more trouble than other people their age when they hit 50 or 60 because of the overuse when they were younger.

Laziness is a natural tendency because it is part of the design of the human animal, a species quality to help preserve the body and keep it ready with lots of energy to run as fast as it can if a lion comes round to eat you. We must take into account the timing of the design of the body with the environment at the time. If I spent all day working without rest, then at dusk when the lions go on their hunt, I would not have enough energy left to save myself. And so, I have a natural desire to rest and not work too hard in the day so I have more energy at night.

Efficiency is the modern benefit which laziness can be turned into. I personally am a very lazy person, I like to have lots of free time and do what I want. In order to have my evening or weekends free, I would work extremely quickly and efficiently at any task I had, be it my job or cleaning the house, so that I had more free time. I was known as a highly efficient man, but I keep saying that I am just lazy, I do not want to work, so I get the work done as quickly as I can.

Arrogance. This is the quality of thinking we know it all and thus closing our mind to learning anything new or resolving a problem. Arrogance leads us into all sorts of conflicts and troubles, as well as getting a bad reputation. In its subtle form, when you cannot be called arrogant, it limits you by making you think that you do not have the particular flaw or limitation, or that you already know something someone is telling you. This shutting down of the open mind causes you to miss information and thus make mistakes.

The good side of arrogance is confidence. A highly self-confident person is often considered very arrogant. This quality of strength gives a person the courage to face new challenges or be the innovator, ready to stand up and be the first to do things. Every great leader, inventor and certainly explorer could be seen as having at least a touch of arrogance to which they would owe their success.

The balancing point to keep arrogance from being negative is objectivity. Being able to see all things as they are rather than as you think they are, and most importantly, when you are wrong, being ready to fully and sincerely admit you are wrong and immediately make the necessary correction.

Unreliable. This is a very common flaw that we all deal with on a regular basis. People will say one thing with total sincerity, and then minutes or days later will completely back out even possibly denying they even made that statement or agreement. This flaw is the weakness of avoiding responsibility for your words and actions. The effects of this weakness are that no one will trust you and eventually not want to help you because you will not be there for them.

The only positive way I can see this is that it allows for the flexibility of adapting to ever changing circumstances. In our modern world, we just get known as someone not to be trusted, or in the case of business, a company not to do business with if possible.

To correct this flaw, you must honor every commitment you make. Eventually, you will learn to think before speaking and agreeing to things. The first benefit is that you will gain a reputation of being very reliable, and thus rare and valuable, but even more importantly, you will soon stop getting yourself into situations that you regret.

Selfish and Greedy. These are an interesting pair of siblings. They are spurred from the natural self-preservation instinct, survival of the fittest. Long ago, we needed to grab more to eat because we did not know when the next meal would walk by the cave for us to kill and catch. Then it became wars or weather changes causing drought or locusts so we had to store up enough food just in case.

Overall a very wise way of living to survive in times of hardship. In our modern world, we have adapted this otherwise good drive to grow and protect our family in the case of turning events into a lust for more and more.

This combines with laziness to want more so we work less. Greed is not only for possessions and money, it could be for time. You may be greedy to get as much time out of another person. For example, if someone giving you advice or is interesting to talk to, you may want to get as much out of them as possible even if they are busy and have other things to do. You may be greedy for all sorts of things. Examine anything that you want more of in this light. It could be energy, companionship, knowledge, or any other desire you have. How much of it do you want and are you taking more than your share. Then look at what you want in perspective of greed considering our next flaw.

Cheap and Stingy. We all love a good deal, discounts make us very happy, and that is why some stores are perpetually ‘on sale’. The problem is that often the best deal is not the long term cheapest purchase. Another trouble is that in trying to save a little money, you may turn someone against you, for example it may be a dinner out with a friend and you try to cut a bit off your side of the cost or avoid reciprocating for something nice they did.

In business, if you try to deliver the least possible quality or service to increase your profits, or even worse, not make up for your mistakes at your own cost, that will turn away customers. This flaw is obvious in most cases, but look for it in consideration of time. How much time will you spend with someone, or on a task that needs to be done. How much will you cut corners or try to save a few pennies at the cost of many dollars.

The useful side is of course conservation of assets, mainly food. If you have to make your food supply last all winter, you cannot hold big parties and spread the food around to all your neighbors, especially is they are going to be stingy with their supply when yours runs out.

This human nature is what makes us stingy, that everyone else is stingy and greedy so we must protect ourself. It comes back to the instinct for survival.

Short Sighted. This is not about eyesight, and is more of a modern flaw based on an ancient natural one. As we have discovered, many of the flaws we have come from a healthy and good quality of nature, self-preservation. These good instincts have gone bad as we have not adapted to the modern world by releasing these fears which are no longer valid. By bringing in outdated qualities to the modern world, we have made a mess of what could be a very pleasant and healthy society.

The flaw of short sightedness is that we do not see the inevitable repercussions of our actions and do things that we later regret. This flaw is a distorted result of the aspiration of the spiritual seeker to be present in the moment. Be here now, be present, these are the mental states that promise enlightenment and unity with the Divine. Excellent qualities for a monk and taught to the masses through religious teachings, but distorted and destructive when unwisely applied to everyday life.

There is no need to give examples of this common problem creator, but my favorite one is the difference between picking apples off the tree one by one and leaving the tree to grow and produce a new crop next year versus cutting down the tree to get them all. Greed mixed with laziness in a very short sighted view.

The cure for this flaw is to carefully consider all the possible outcomes before you take action.

Lack of Appreciation. We all know when we have been hit by this flaw but rarely see when we do it ourselves. One of my teachers put it best when he said, ‘Always pay your debts.’ We owe debts of a financial nature of course, but the most powerful debts are the debts of knowledge, of friendship, of sacrifice. We owe a debt to the trees for producing the oxygen we breath. Everyone knows this, but we fail to pay that debt by maintaining the forests, rather the species recklessly cuts down the forests which provide the air we breath and one day, we may go too far. If you fail to recognize all the debts you owe for your very existence in every aspect of your life, and do not give appropriate appreciation, the supply may be cut off.

One wise old friend told me what the two most important professions to our modern world are. Farmers and garbage collectors. We need both to keep us alive in our cities. Next time the garbage truck goes by, just think about the state of your city if no one collected the rubbish and it just piled up on the street. That should make you want to get out of your car and thank the stranger for keeping your life clean.

Over-Sensitivity. This is a very tricky weakness that is really more cultural. Prevalent in the western world, and spreading like a cancer we should consider carefully. Everyone knows someone who is very sensitive, you have to say the right things carefully, or risk getting them very upset.

This weakness has grown out of the political correctness movement. The more we allow ourselves to follow this idea of personal boundaries and PC culture, the weaker the species becomes. It is now so easy to hurt someone emotionally but the same words would have had no effect or have been considered normal some years ago. This proves it is not the words but the individuals who are becoming weaker and hyper-sensitive.

This weakness is used as a powerful weapon to control people by your own emotional weakness. It is like finding something that you do not know about, then seeing what it can do to control other people, and going wild with your new found power. The child has taken control of the kingdom with its wild temper tantrums.

There is no good use of this as it is not natural but man-made. It is entirely destructive and must be avoided by your own efforts to show you have no concern over names and labels, but simply want to gain understanding and get done what needs to be done.

Emotions. Humans are subject to emotional swings that come in short or long cycles. Negative experiences wear away at motivation and the fire for life which eventually leads to having no energy to do anything. This is the birth of the saying, ‘I am getting too old for that.’

It is not physical age alone, although in some cases true, it is more the emotional age, the wearing down of the youthful vigor of excitement to learn new things and trust people to do what they say. All of the flaws listed here add to the emotional swings through filling our life with frustrations for what other people do while ignoring what we ourselves do.

When we take each day with an objective view, and live consciously, working on eliminating our flaws, we will have a far more balanced life with less emotional swings. However if we do not acknowledge the flaws that rule us, their causes and how to correct them so they are used beneficially, then we will be swinging like Tarzan through an emotional jungle until the vine breaks or we smack into a tree.

Regardless of what you may do to balance yourself, you still have to account for the emotional swings of other people and how that will effect their actions, By understanding how a person or group of people will act, you prevent yourself from disappointments and emotional swings.

Self-Lying and Buffers. The most difficult problem to catch, due to its entire purpose. Self-lying is simply that, you are lying to your self to hide from reality. This is the case of being faced with a mistake you have made, and denying it. We have all faced people making statements which have left our mouth hanging open by their obvious ludicrous denial of the obvious. We wonder how could a sane person not see themselves doing such a thing.

The reason we do not see our own self-lie is by using what I call buffers to avoid or justify our actions. Self-lying is avoidance of reality and buffers maintain the lie by justifying our actions or creating some imaginary scenario to validate our opinions. You see other people do this, but now you must look for this flaw in yourself. A common self-lie is ‘I am brutally honest with myself.’

When someone disputes your actions, or you find yourself denying responsibility for something, put in every effort to view the situation as an objective judge without concern of your personal benefit or loss in the situation. If you can start to see your own lies and buffers to avoid facing reality, you will find many less troubles in your life.

I knew a fellow who met a new girlfriend. She was a heroin addict. He convinced himself that he could reform her and that she wanted to change. In the end, he embezzled so much money from his fathers company in which he worked to fund her habit, that the company went bankrupt. All to support this girl and his own self lie that he could save her, while the buffers made him ignore the fact that she simply did not want to stop. A drastic example of which I am sure you can find many situations in your own life, be it in relationships or in business that you can relate to in hindsight. Hopefully you will work with this information and use foresight in the future.

These are only a few of the flaws inherent in the species, and as you have seen, they are truly inherent in the species by nature, but are good things that we have turned bad. Nature does only good, hence the name that we have now come to know as God is in some teachings referred to as “The Good”

I will finish with the greatest power turned into weakness that makes humans different than all other creatures on earth, the cause of all our troubles and distortions of good things into bad.

Freedom Of Choice. The most powerful quality a human can have, the ability to be creative and choose right from wrong, but now virtually atrophied since a young age when we used this great freedom to choose to imitate others instead of cultivating our own individuality.

This has created a species of foolish clones hurting without thinking, limiting themselves by accepting what they have been told, and believing any lie and rubbish that they are fed.

Use your freedom of choice to choose how you feel and what you think. Use it to correct your weakness and live a life of balance, success and happiness.

Australian Shepherd Pros and Cons of Owning This Fascinating Pet

Reasons for and Against Owning a Pet Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is the quintessential herding dog. It rose to fame as a sheepherder and although it probably originated in the Pyrenees Mountain it was exported to Australia and other sheep raising areas. It is known by a few other names but the one most know it as is the Australian Shepherd or Aussie.

It is a very recognizable dog due to its unique eye coloring along with its beautiful merle coat coloring. It is normally born with a short tail and if longer than 4 inches it is normally docked. It is sturdy with a muscular build and has extraordinary balance which partly explains how it is so good at herding along with its intelligence. If you have a very active lifestyle and want an easily trainable companion you might want to consider an Aussie for your next pet.

Pros:

An Australian Shepherd is a loving breed of dog that just loves to play and never seems to lose its puppy like qualities. For this reason, it is a great dog to own if you have children in your home. It gets along great with other dogs and pets as well as all humans.

Even though it likes to play it is easy to train and appears to know what you want it to do. Like most dogs you must establish that you are the pack leader. Once you do this the Aussie is easy to get along with and will be very happy to go along with your leadership.

The Australian Shepherd loves to please everyone and is very protective of their family. If given the chance, your pet will do well when trained to be used as a guard dog. They have great perception as well as being intuitive. Your pet will know what will be expected of it and therefore is easier to train.

A pet Aussie is not aggressive, unless it is herding animals. It is protective and a loyal friend, which makes a good family dog. This dog likes nothing better that herding livestock so if you have animals that needs rounded up then this is the dog for you. Herding seems to be instinctive as they have been known to try to herd chickens, geese and even children.

Cons:

You must keep your pet Australian Shepherd trained properly and exercised regularly to keep them happy and content. Before you can start training them make sure it knows that you are the pack leader. It can get nervous and easily bored when its not being acknowledged. It requires human interaction on a daily basis to keep if from getting bored and possibly becoming destructive.

The Aussie is a great dog but has too much energy to be a house dog. It must have a lot of activity every day. If you don’t have a large backyard or can take your pet out for a large amount of exercise every day you should consider a different breed of dog.

Although Australian Shepherds are a hardy dog there is one problem that can show up in them. The gene that produces their pretty merle coloration also is a factor that can cause blindness and deafness. Puppies should be checked for deafness as well as cataracts. Aussies with bobtails can sometimes develop serious spinal defects. Hip dysplasia is another possible problem in some of these dogs. These conditions are not found in all of them and should not be considered serious enough to dissuade you from considering one as a pet or helper.

Like most dogs Aussies need proper training to be the best pet. Luckily this pet has above average intelligence as well as faithfulness and loyalty found in few other pets. If you need a good friend who will also help out around the farm or ranch do yourself a favor and check out the Australian Shepherd. You will be happy you did.

Laser Eye Treatment – What to Expect During Surgery

Although laser eye surgery can greatly enhance a person's life, deciding to undergo the procedure can be quite daunting. It is normal to be nervous before undergoing any form of surgery, but in the case of laser eye surgery the fear can be increased as patients are conscious during the procedure and under normal circumstances most people would be unwilling to allow a laser beam near such a delicate area of their body. Although nothing is likely to completely calm pre-operative nerves, educating yourself about what happens during the procedure can help build your confidence.

During surgery, patients lie in a reclining chair directly below the laser. To allow the surgeon to operate the eye lids are fixed in place with a metal ring. While this is not uncomfortable in itself, being unable to blink can be a little disconcerting for the patient. The eye is thoroughly cleaned and drops are used to anaesthetise the area. From the start of preparation time to the conclusion of laser treatment generally takes around 15 minutes.

Lasik

In Lasik surgery, a small incision is made in the cornea to produce a small flap. This leads to vision loss for about 20 to 30 seconds. The laser – which is programmed before the operation starts – will then reshape the cornea. The procedure is not painful but can be quite unsettling due to the smell of burning that occurs when the laser comes into contact with the surface of the eye.

As complications can arise as a result of the incision, Lasik is considered the highest risk of the different forms of laser eye surgery, although it also has many advantages, for example a greatly improved recovery time. One of the problems which may arise during surgery is that the cornea may become washed. However, in most instances, the surgeon is able to reattach the cornea after treatment is complete.

Lasek

Lasek varies from Lasik in that no incision is made. Instead, after the eye area has been prepared for surgery an alcoholic solution is used to soften the epithelium, which is then folded to one side to allow the laser to reshape the cornea. Once the procedure is complete, this will be pushed back into place. A contact lens will be placed over the cornea to hold the epithelium in place. This will need to be worn for several days.

In a small number of cases PRK is used instead of Lasek, particularly if the patient has an unusually thin cornea or large pupils. The procedure is very similar, but an excimer laser removes a thin layer of cells from the surface of the cornea and the eye is then reshaped to allow better focusing. This is not painful, although PRK often experience more discomfort than those under other forms of laser eye treatment. The protective layer of cells will grow back naturally in the weeks following surgery.

If you have concerns about laser eye surgery, or are anxious about what to expect, do not hesitate to contact the vision clinic. The staff will be happy to answer your inquiries and alleviate your fears.

Masturbation is the safest sex. It is the logical alternative to sexual intercourse; which is dumb sex for children.

Orgasms and sexual response are learned stimulus which can be mastered with practice.

Masturbation, or solo sex, or self pleasure, is the second most common sex act by humans. It does not cause warts, acne, insanity, blindness or hair on the palms. It may improve the immune system function in men and build his resistance to prostate gland infection. It builds a women’s resistance to yeast infections and eases menstrual cramps.

It is the safest sex and can be done any time any where. It’s a form of stress relief, sleep sedative, and mood booster in releasing endorphins.

It provides some of the most intense orgasms and can increase a person’s sexual awareness. It releases sexual tension without any performance anxiety and it aids in resisting depression.

Masturbation promotes higher levels of satisfaction in married couples. It calms one’s sex cravings and likely helps people live longer. There’s no risk of pregnancy or catching a disease. It helps women improve pelvic floor strength.

History clearly shows that masturbation has been around a very long time. A clay figurine from about 4000 years BC was found at a temple site on the island of Malta which represents a woman masturbating. Depictions of male masturbation are more common.

Chimpanzees are ancestor to humans and studies indicate that the chimpanzees have been around at least 8 million years. The Bonobo chimpanzees share about 98% of our human DNA. Their practice of masturbation indicates that human masturbation has been around since the beginning of the human race.

Early Egyptians celebrated masturbation in reference to their sun god, Atun. In about 3200 BC, the Sumerians, who invented the calendar, made reference to the Mespotamian god Enki masturbating.

It seems that as civilizations emerged man found the need for an increase in numbers…thus a desire for population growth…perhaps to man their armies. Anyway, many man-made religions grasped the opportunity to control the minds of humans, so they condemned masturbation and insisted that it is a sin.

All sperm is to be used to produce pregnancy and numbers…and only in the framework of marriage. No masturbation, or oral sex, or anal sex. This seems more than just a bit illogical!

Parasympathetic Stimulation and Massage Therapy – A Frank Discussion of The "Involuntary Response"

I begin this discussion by addressing the male guests first, as they appear to have, in my opinion, a more obvious reaction fitting the summary. To them I suggest pretending that the spa visit/massage is like a first date that you don’t want to go through “uncomfortably”. To prevent your gun from discharging, try arriving with a virtually unloaded gun and an open, clean mind. Men already know that this is no “guarantee” but it helps prevent an unintended situation. You can’t really relax with a “loaded gun” can you? It does not matter whether you think your therapist is attractive or not, whether you have a same-sex therapist and you are completely heterosexual or not, whether you have the opposite scenario, or whether there are any obvious indication of the therapist’s sexual orientation. The parasympathetic brain will respond however it does in that moment and without your or your therapist’s fault.

The parasympathetic or involuntary response you have to your therapist’s touch can be scary, exciting, embarrassing, or frightening depending on you, your therapist, your view and understanding of massage, its benefits and the intent, skills and qualifications of the therapist. If your therapist is a professional, he/she is well aware of this involuntary stimulation when you are being massaged. Most of us don’t “freak out” when our client gets a hard on, although that was not the intent of our massage technique. I often say (when asked, and yes I have been asked countless times… LOL) that I expect it to happen. Why? Well, we are alive, sexual beings who respond to touch and external stimuli. You are being touched, hopefully lovingly, even if we’re working on a knot, and even if sex is not on your or our minds, which hopefully is the case in your legal and professional setting. An erection, in the “involuntary brain” is the same as digestion. You can’t control the stomach noises when you are hungry nor when your therapist works on some “trigger areas”. So, we are gonna hear “stomach noises” even if you ate and/or already went to the bathroom; and equally, you are gonna feel stimulated possibly leading to an erection, sometimes even if “the gun was/is empty”. Hence, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT. DON’T FREAK OUT. DON’T TRY TO HIDE (which you can’t unless you are prone or you took precautions when you turned over (supine), to position this muscle where your therapist is less likely to see it), AND MOST OF ALL, PLEASE, DON’T REACH FOR IT OR REQUEST THAT WE REACH FOR IT.

At least in my practice, it’s not that kind of place; and actually, that is illegal in so many ways! Don’t draw our attention to it, whether you are being “funny” or not. I make note here also, that there may be the urge to grab at the therapist. You may need to pretend it’s that stripper at the club dancing on your lap but you can’t touch, or you get thrown out and still have to pay! Whoa, what an analogy! (giggles) Yes, please resist this urge, unless your therapist is your lover, etc., outside of the establishment. Sometimes, even if that is the case, please resist and don’t compromise the establishment’s business and change the flow of energy in your massage session. Someone will know! In this case, please “be selfish” and feel grateful that things inside you still work the way they should and mentally thank the therapist for reminding you of this. The work has been great and honorable in “unblocking” that channel for blood flow.

What is my wish for my honored client on my table? Do you have a choice if something happens in session that disturbs you? What else can you do to improve the relationship with your therapist and the establishment at which you receive service?

My direction at the beginning of every session is that: “If at any time anything feels uncomfortable, please let me know.” This could be any “uncomfortable” feeling. Maybe I need to stop moving my hands that way or go work somewhere else for a bit then return if I sense my “mission in that area was not accomplished or was delayed”. Please speak up! I don’t know what you are feeling when I do what I do. I just know that my hands convey love, my intuition indicated there was a need in that area and my energy went there in response to yours, so as to provide therapy. Sometimes your body asks for more pressure when you can’t handle it. Sometimes you have “emotional breaks” causing my hands to work fast or slow or go directly to that spot that has been bugging you. This is “energy movement”, which I am usually very connected to and which is not always understood. This type of “intuition” cannot be taught. You nor I don’t always know why I went directly to that spot, but it brings relief you have been begging for all week and that’s all that really matters. PLEASE KNOW THAT IF MY TREATMENT CAUSED YOU TO BE AROUSED, THAT THIS WAS NOT MY INTENTION AND HONESTLY, I WOULD BE MORTIFIED IF I KNEW YOU TOOK IT THAT WAY.

Sometimes clients don’t want to go back to that therapist, although, other than the “arousal embarrassment”, everything was great and they felt relief from the massage. Maybe the massage triggered feelings that were strong and overwhelming for you… Sometimes so for the therapist too, who must maintain professionalism and deal with this “self-care” later. If you understand parasympathetic stimulation in massage, you will understand the difference between when you are being touched for sexual pleasure and when you are not. If when you involuntarily moan, your therapist responded and started to coach you to give more, then it’s time to stop the session. The lines have been crossed into a different direction, as your therapist did not need to respond while in session and feed that channel.

I have massaged people who transferred so much “energy” during the session, that at the end, I wanted to cry (in sadness, joy, or for no known reason), was confused, light and loving like a child, light and empty (as if sucked by an energy vampire), angry without knowing why, motherly, godlike or “queenly”, sometimes extremely shy (my natural nature, which you wouldn’t believe if you met me) like a little girl with her eyes affixed to her shoes as we part ways. All of this happen, even though I am very in tune with my own body and its needs during the session and have openly breathed my way through, thus allowing for the “exit of all energies” through to the universe. Some things will still get stuck to “the conduit,” much as some of my energy will get stuck to you too. When you part from your sessions, do you feel a healthy, peaceful, loving, grateful connection to your therapist, for the work, how you feel and how your therapist respectfully handled you? If it was almost like a spiritual dance, then you are connected to the true self of that person even with the universal overtones. Much the same, a client or two may have come in with a headache or a cold and by the end of my day, it manifests in me. It is my responsibility to do self-care at the end of each day and while away from my work so as to be fresh, grounded and stronger for the next day of massaging and attending to clients’ needs.

Some female clients prefer having a female therapist, and likewise, some male therapists prefer female therapists. This is a personal choice. Personally, I am very reluctant to accept massages from male therapists, based on my own experiences with some. However in either scenario, parasympathetic stimulation must happen unless you are dead. I know, and as long as I am not expected “to perform” at any point before or after the massage session, I am o.k. with being aroused…as long as it was involuntary and not the intent of the therapist. If you don’t know the difference and something feels weird, ask your therapist why they touched you there, and listen for a therapeutic answer. Don’t assume anything. Sometimes we know what we are doing feels good. We equally like our feet or our backs rubbed that way. We also know the anatomy and what channels are being stimulated and what therapeutically is happening with the body when we touch that spot. So, we might linger there for a bit, sometimes not enough for some, sometimes too much. However, we are going (well at least I am) from my intuition and focus on what “your energy” (your body) says it needs, and not with purposeful sexual stimulation in mind.

Maybe you are not stimulated sexually! Maybe you are in pain! SPEAK UP! Sometimes, I can tell that the pressure is too much because the client is holding their breath or the body “twitches” or some other. It’s again the scenario where the muscle is asking for more and you, the person, can’t handle it. I will ask, “how’s the pressure here?”; are you OK with this pressure?, etc., and 8 out of 10 times the client says “yes” everything is o.k. I know, from what I feel, that you are “saving face”, but I also know that maybe you can handle a little bit more to accomplish what I am trying to accomplish, which is relief and enough blood circulation in that area so that you’ll feel the relief later. Knots are sometimes tricky. I am a very strong woman and I do work very hard for you, but I don’t want to hurt you. Pain does not equate relaxation for a majority, in which case you should have gone to that other place with the whips, chains and bone-fragmented staff.

If I aroused you as a result of my techniques, please address it with me, especially if you felt anything was inappropriate. Sometimes, based upon our history, we tend to respond to things differently. I don’t know you are a rape survivor. I don’t know you have molestation issues. I don’t know you equate being touched with sexual performance requirement. I only know what you have told me and that you have employed me to relieve stress, attend to an injury, give you relaxation and rejuvenation and help you be a healthier person. I know my job and work hard to do this for and with you. Maybe my massages, for you, need to be tailored differently. Don’t write me off, jump to conclusions (male or female), and stop coming because what you are thinking might not be truth. Please know that your indicated purpose for coming in for service is at the forefront of my mind and thoughts and application of therapy at every instance. Going home with a little “loving” feeling is natural as my work in stimulating movement inside your tissues and channels take effect. I have a clean mind and clean body and no sexual thoughts as I work on you. It’s strictly professional–Made me think of that “stripper on the pole” analogy again.

Honor me (and your other care-givers) with your payment for services, your gratuities, referrals and your returns. These are the biggest compliments to me, my craft and chosen career, and I am privileged and grateful for being that conduit you trust for your universal rejuvenation. I’m kinda like “mamma’s love” to a “child”….nothing more. Trust that and enjoy your parasympathetic brain.

Clients honor both their own bodies and their attending therapists, when they work as a professional team with the same objective in mind. Why did you come in for service today? Never forget your purpose. If you do, then you hardly will realize whether or not the therapist is meeting this demand. That other stuff is just a distraction from the intention. Now, I address the male clients first, as in my experience, they seem to be the most challenging. Female clients are not exempt, however, as some will need to receive the same “warnings” given to the men. We live in an age where massage therapists and clients can easily and freely cross the line and it is becoming harder and harder for the real therapists to distinguish themselves. Same for the client who gets the unprofessional service when they expected something else and/or vice versa. For good reason, we are now required to register with the JD and FBI and our licensing is only for specific, therapeutic services, nothing more. Let’s keep your massage session dignified and honorable for both parties. There will be several other postings dealing with this issue so stay tuned for more of my therapeutic logic!

Factors to Consider in Meal Planning

Meal planning is a technique that every household should utilize. It is a very comprehensive plan of what to eat and the products or ingredients necessary in cooking. It is an organized system of identifying recipes and for a certain period of time. It requires a skill to identify needs of a person of his entire family and taking into consideration of several factors that would affect planning activity.

Factors would include: health needs, economic factors, religious practices, dietary concerns, environmental factors and time and ability to cook.

Health needs.

It is necessary to include all the food groups to ensure optimum nutrition. It is very important that we include in our meals the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals that our bodies require.

Economic factors.

We have to consider our budget and the prices of the ingredients. Budget is foremost the principal factor because you cannot cook what you cannot afford.

Religious practices.

Some religion or faith has restrictions on what they are allowed to eat. Muslims cannot eat pork and Jews are obliged to observe Kashrut practices. Hindus do not eat beef because of the view of the that cows are sacred.

Dietary concerns.

Certain diseases such as diabetes and hypertension restricts or limits an individual’s food intake. They are not allowed to eat fatty foods and even sweets. Another consideration would be allergies that would yield unwanted reactions when trigger foods are consumed.

Environmental factors.

This would include the kitchen materials and equipments that would give you the capacity to cook certain food.

Time

If you have ample time to prepare food then you can go ahead and cook extravagant dishes, however when you have limited time you can opt for easy to do recipes than relying on fast food or instant products.

Ability to cook.

The most modifiable factor. They say you cannot cook if you don’t know what you are doing. However you can research videos or follow cook books to help you prepare the dish that you want.

When you have considered all the factors of course you make sure that your cooking in variety while also acknowledging your family’s preference. Play with texture and color as well as temperature. Add fun to the activity by making it a recreational hobby which involves family members.

Weight Loss Supplements: A Few Things You Ought to Consider

So many companies brag that their weight loss supplements are the best on the market. Incredible claims of losing 30 pounds a month or supplements that ‘dissolve’ fat are everywhere. The thing this is though, taking weight loss supplements or diet pills on their own is never going to be enough to hit your targets unless your weight reduction targets are pretty low. Supressing your appetite and going hungry will only get you so far.

Making a decision on the kind of supplement you’re going to take should be based at least in part around the kind of workout you’re going to be doing side by side with your supplements. There are of course many other factors you ought to consider if you want weight loss success in the shortest possible time.

Talk to a Doctor

Before taking weight loss tablets it is always a really good idea to talk to a doctor. A doctor’s can offer professional advice on which pills are most suitable for you, help evaluate your current diet and even offer advice on exercise and working out regimes.

Although for many talking to a doctor about your weight is slightly uncomfortable try not to worry and just remember that your doctor is there to help and advise you.

Fat Burners

These diet pills have become huge favourites because they apparently trigger the parts of the body that need to eliminate fat. Fat burners are diet pills which contain variations of herbal ingredients such as Chitosan, Ephedra and Pyruvate. It is claimed that all of these stimulate your metabolic rate, increase your energy and/or suppress your appetite.

Currently there is no conclusive proof that these fat burning tablets can achieve the benefits they say they can but many people have reported huge weight losses taking them. Also no-one knows the longer term effects of fat burners and how they interact with other supplements or general medication.

Prescription Diet Pills

The best diet pills you can take are those prescribed by your doctor. Most prescription diet pills are classified as appetite suppressants which increase a number of chemicals in the brain which can lead to decreases in your appetite.

A popular supplement is phentermine which should always be taken along with a comprehensive weight-loss programme that must include proper exercise and a healthy diet. Other prescription diet pills can stop your body from absorbing large percentages of fat.

Carb Blockers

Carb blockers are known to produce chemical changes within the body. These changes stop the body from absorbing the carbohydrates in your diet. This helps stop those carbs from being converted to fat by the body.

The active ingredient of these diet supplements is usually a substance called phaselous vulgaris. Phaselous vulgaris is derived from the white kidney bean and there are currently no long term studies backing up the claim that it is an effective weight loss treatment.

In Summary…

For most people trying to lose weight without the aid of supplements is not usually as successful or lost as quickly. If you follow your exercise routine and have a healthy diet you can easily benefit from the inclusion of weight loss supplements.

Finding a weight loss supplement that can help burn off that fat easily whilst simultaneously helping to improve your energy levels is fairly straightforward these days, however we really would recommend speaking to a doctor before you start any course of supplements.

Doing Love Scenes in Hollywood – Want to Know What They Are Like?

You have seen them on Cinemax, HBO, you have seen them in the theaters, and you have seen them on TV… I am talking about love scenes! They can be super steamy and sexy or not well done at all. It depends not only on the director and the actors and actresses but also the lighting, sound, editing, score, etc. to make it a titillating and exciting experience for the audience.

Doing a love scene felt to me like an out-of-body experience (and not the kind that feels like pure love and joy). If I look back at doing that first love scene I literally remember it from somebody standing to the side and watching it, not from being the actress in the scene. It was a closed set (only the director and actors, and maybe the script supervisor stay on the set). Everyone was very professional. Thankfully, I have never had anyone act inappropriately while filming a love scene. The whole event was quite technical as well. Move your body here, your arm down there, now kiss. I had what is called a “patch” over my girly bits below and my co-star wore a “sock” over his boy bits. But I was naked, pretty much. To say I felt vulnerable would be an understatement.

As an actor, it is my job to bring life to a character and believability in unreal situations. That includes love scenes. If it looks real, I have done my job. I will go on record and say it is all acting. It is NOT real, even if it looks like it is.

Here is what I can recommend to actors and actresses faced with doing a love scene:

1) Keep a positive and easy-to-work with attitude;

2) Listen to your instincts, if it feels uncomfortable, let the director know;

3) If you feel like someone is being inappropriate, stop and have a discussion with the director and whoever is being inappropriate;

4) Make sure you are respected as an actress and each person is wearing the appropriate cover ups;

5) Make sure you have a robe available in between shots;

6) Be hygienic by being showered and brush your teeth;

7) Be sensitive to the other actors wishes, everyone is in a vulnerable position;

8) Use forethought and sensitivity, do not eat onions and garlic for lunch that day;

9) Keep a toiletry bag with you of items that you may need:

a. Kleenex

b. Patch (to cover your private areas) if you cover the area with something, they cannot use the take if it is shown on film, this is for your protection!

c. Mints/Gum

d. Toothbrush & toothpaste

e. Washcloth & hand towel

f. Handy wipes

g. Feminine products (women only)

h. Slippers

i. Mirror

j. First aid kit

I started acting in 1996. I have starred or co-starred in over 20 films. I discovered this about myself: I tend to read over stuff I do not really like as if I am not going to actually have to do it. I auditioned for an independent film and got a callback. I was so excited! I read the script; it was a film about a prostitute who is a murder suspect. I was offered the part. Yay me. I saw that there were love scenes in the movie but I tend to, kind-of, you know, read-them-quickly, so-maybe-they-did-not-really-exist. I like to focus on the positive aspects of things. And royally fool myself about the negative. I wanted to work as an actress so badly. I compromised doing the nudity to do the film. Had I known that it was called “soft-core porn” I probably would never have done it. I never wanted to be a “porn” star. Granted, I have never done “hard-core porn.”

I was working on a particular film with an actress who was also a stripper and very beautiful. She was a friend of several other beautiful women who were porn stars. She shared with me the thoughts and expressions of her porn star friends on what soft-core porn actresses or B-actresses were thought of. They felt bad for B-actresses who did love scenes because they did not get to “enjoy fully” their experience of doing love scenes. I understand their point, from their point of view. However, I was not in it to “get off” so I was just fine not “getting off.” There is no judgment; I just was not in it for that. I was in it to further my career and work as an actress. It is not right or wrong to me; it is just a different choice. To me doing love scenes was a compromise I made in order to work as an actress.

I did a couple more soft-core films as well as other types of independent films that did not have love scenes in them. Playboy produced most of the steamy films through a company called Mystique Films. I also turned down many films. I was willing to compromise doing some nudity but if I could not use any part of the film to build my reel (a compilation of segments of an actor’s work used to give to casting people or to get an agent) than I would not do it. Some of these films would only have the character copulating or talking about copulating through the entire film. That is not usable for a reel. I needed at least some substance; some footage that I could actually use to further my career.

Also, actors and actresses must consider the Internet now. Sex sells. Whatever love scenes you do on film will end up on someone’s site for sale as screen captures or movie clips of you naked. You could look up Sharon Stone, Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, or Jessica Lange and find screen shots of them naked. At least I am not in bad company!

Importance of Computers in Medical Sector

Computers have now become an inseparable part of our life. Be it school or colleges or offices or hospitals or home, there is hardly any place where you can’t see a computer. The importance of computers can’t be confided in words. Apart from making our work simpler, easier and faster, computers have actually helped humans in many life threatening situations. And this contribution can’t be put into words.

Especially in the field of medical and hospitals, we have seen so much advancement which was not possible had it not been computers for our help there. In this article we will discuss some major areas in medical sector where computers have helped us humans and made our lives simpler, easier and better.

1. Computerized Robotic Operations: Earlier days, if a patient is sick and needs treatment from the doctor, the doctors from the hospital have to be available in the hospital with that patient all the time. Performing diagnostics, operating a patient and post operation checkups required a doctor to be physically available near the patient. Now it’s not the case. With the advancements of computers, hospitals have introduced cutting edge technologies and treatments methods using which a doctor can perform the diagnosis and checkups thousands of miles away from the patient.

Even operations are performed remotely with the help of robotic arm. The introduction of robotic operations has made lives of so many needy patients easier. If certain services are not available locally, the patient now needs not to travel hundreds of miles to go to a better hospital. The hospital and its services will come directly to him/her. The doctor can perform the remote operation with the help of the robotic arm placed near the patient and checking all the vital body factors on the digital display in front of him/her. It’s literally like doctor is performing the operation in person. The introduction of robotic operations has made the operation and treatment of the needy patients much faster, easier and cheaper at the same time.

2. Computerized Internal Diagnosis: There are often scenarios where the doctor needs to perform the internal diagnosis of the patient to get the clear picture and state of the disease. Certain tumors and cancer may seem neutralized from outside but from inside the situation can be completely opposite and this can’t be found out until unless a proper internal diagnosis of the infected body part is performed. Even performing CT Scans, X-Rays and other scans can’t give a proper state of the disease and can delay the treatment at the same time.

The introduction of computerized internal diagnosis has made the job so much easier, faster and effective. While employing the computerized internal diagnosis, most of the times a computerized tiny robot with a camera head is inserted in the body of the patient. The tiny robot makes its way through the infected part of the body providing real-time images of the internal parts at the same time. The doctors can literally see each and every area of the infected part and then can make justified decision about the criticality of the disease and can perform the treatment accordingly.

3. Computerized Electromagnetic Treatments: There are many minor to moderate internal and external medical problems which are now treated using the electromagnetic technologies with the help of computers. Many skin, hair and eyes related problems are now being resolved using the laser, radio and electromagnetic technologies.

Earlier these situations and many such medical ailments require performing an operation and keeping the patient in hospitals for days. With the introduction of electromagnetic treatments, these problems are being taken care without the operation and the patient need not to be hospitalized either. The patient can simply walk out and perform his/her daily rituals as earlier.

These are some of the very basic areas where computers have found their way to show how important they are in our medical sectors. Everyday new advancements are made in the medical sectors, many incurable diseases are now curable and all this is because of the advancement in the computers and technology sector. With computer’s speed, efficiency and applications increasing every day, many more improvements are expected in near future.

A Surprising Comparison Between Prison and Slavery

The fairly new term, “mass incarceration,” means that the U.S. has 2.3 million prisoners, more than any country in the world. A greater percentage of the U.S. population is in prison than in any other nation. The U.S. has 5% of the world’s population and 25% of the world’s prisoners. The entire U.S. correctional population, including those on probation, on parole and awaiting trial, is 7.3 million Americans.

These eye-popping numbers came about for many reasons: mandatory minimum sentences, three-strikes legislation, illegal drugs, gangs, immorality in all its modern forms, the war on drugs, the decline of marriage and families, high rates of recidivism, incarceration of the mentally ill, the decline of capital punishment, problems with the criminal justice system and all the forces pushing tough crime policies. Difficult economic times focus attention on the increasing costs of keeping all these people – 93% of them men – behind bars. Each prisoner costs about $25,000 per year, and the average prisoner does little to offset the cost of confinement. The social costs may be even higher. Breadwinners are lost, families destroyed, more kids grow up without fathers or mothers, welfare costs increase, the entire sex ratio is thrown out of balance and prisoners face grim prospects when released.

The hyper-incarceration statistics for African-American males are much worse. We incarcerate one in nine African-Americans between the ages of 20 and 34. In 2003, it was calculated that “At current levels of incarceration newborn black males in this country have a greater than a 1 in 4 chance of going to prison during their lifetimes, while Hispanic males have a 1 in 6 chance, and white males have a 1 in 23 chance of serving time.” By 2007, just four years later, the U.S. Department of Justice estimated that African-American males have a 32% chance of going to prison or jail – becoming slaves – in their lifetimes. Young black male high school dropouts are almost 50 times more likely to wind up behind bars than the average American and 60% of that demographic cohort eventually goes to prison.

African-American males have always been incarcerated in significantly higher percentages than their portion of the general population, except in the Old South, where slaves were virtually never incarcerated. The state slavery in our modern penitentiary system, which now cages over one million African-Americans, and more than a million whites and Latinos, did not exist in the antebellum South. A prosecutor in the Old South, whose district covered at least half a dozen counties, in eight years of public service, only indicted 12 African-Americans out of 2,000 indictments. Disparate treatment of enslaved African-Americans in the legal system existed in the Old South. Back then, blacks received much less punishment from the formal legal system than did whites, the opposite of the way it is now. Slaves were too valuable as workers to incarcerate. The North incarcerated 30 times more African-Americans on a percentage basis than did the South in 1850. In 1850, almost all of the incarcerated African-Americans, North or South, were classified as “free colored.” Antebellum prisons in Mississippi and Georgia recorded zero African-American inmates at different times. By 1890, there were still only 8,417 prison inmates of all races in the entire South, and the federal prison system did not yet exist.

The most severe injustices of slavery were limitations on education and opportunity for advancement. The principal injustices of antebellum slavery can be avoided as we adopt some old-fashioned punishments and re-establish the importance of hard work under the constitutional guarantees all now invoke. Continuous employment is an unappreciated feature of slavery, and it was generally good for the hard worker. Many ex-slaves looked down on the generations raised in freedom because the younger generations never learned to work as hard as their slave ancestors. Many slaves had good personal relationships with their owners. The hard truth is that it’s better to be exploited and appreciated than ignored, disparaged and excluded.

The number of African-Americans incarcerated right now is numerically equal to one-half of the entire antebellum male slave population in 1860. African-American males in 2008, with infinitely greater educational opportunities, were 337 times more likely to be in prison than African-Americans in the antebellum South. African-Americans in the modern U.S. correctional population, including those on probation and parole, exceed the total number of American slaves in 1850! The factors of low employment, poor discipline and the destruction of the modern family best explain these terrible statistics. As a percentage of population, the South still incarcerates far fewer African-Americans than the North compared to the number of whites incarcerated in those states. Those who contend racial disparities in incarceration are a legacy of slavery have some explaining to do. Comparing rates of incarceration for whites to rates of incarceration for blacks yields a surprise: the greatest incarceration disparities today in favor of whites and against blacks are in the North, in the very same states that took the strongest stances against slavery. Iowa, Vermont, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Wisconsin had the greatest racial disparities as of 2005, all over 10-to-1, while the Deep South states of Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas all had racial disparities of less than 5-to-1. Almost without exception, the states of the old Union incarcerate significantly greater percentages of African-Americans compared to the percentage of whites incarcerated – about twice as many – than the states of the old Confederacy.

The modern American prisoner is 20 times more likely to commit suicide than the antebellum slave. A surprising comparison using thorough research proves that modern mass incarceration is an unrealized social and financial disaster of mammoth proportions – while antebellum slavery for most U.S. slaves was not as inhumane as many believe. I contrast the modern American prison system with antebellum slavery, with narratives from hundreds of ex-slaves, using their own words. In the Old South, outlaws were generally white people, while slaves were considered safe and never incarcerated – race and crime are not truly related. I propose racially neutral reforms to reduce and improve incarceration through discipline and hard work, substantially helping taxpayers, victims of crime, our “new age slaves” in prison and the American economy. “Prison & Slavery – A Surprising Comparison” contains the only practical market-oriented, faith-based solutions to what the NAACP’s president now regards as the greatest major crisis in our democracy, mass incarceration. Forget stereotypes. The facts will surprise you.

Well over half of released prisoners wind up behind bars again, often within three years of their release date. It’s a revolving door. In 1910, Emma Goldman wrote: “Year after year the gates of prison hells return to the world an emaciated, deformed, will-less, shipwrecked crew of humanity, with the Cain mark on their foreheads, their hopes crushed, all their natural inclinations thwarted. With nothing but hunger and inhumanity to greet them, these victims soon sink back into crime as the only possibility of existence.” With regard to recidivism, nothing has changed in 100 years.

Modern prisons or “penitentiaries” have not been around as long as many believe, less than 200 years. Modern prisons developed after the U.S. Constitution was written. The original purpose was to rehabilitate offenders, but rehabilitation has been spectacularly ineffective. Prison usually makes offenders worse. The only thing it really does is keep them from preventing crimes while they are behind bars. Federal statutes prevent prison industries and prison labor from competing in the marketplace, which is why most prisoners are idle most of the time.

The mark of Cain today is the “felon” label, a stigma that effectively disqualifies ex-cons of public assistance, subsidized housing, food stamps and most jobs. Today, because African-Americans constitute a huge percentage of the correctional population, the felon stigma is called the New Jim Crow, after a book by that name written by Michelle Alexander. Angela Y. Davis, the famous radical, has called modern mass incarceration “New Age Slavery.” Most critics of the current system of mass incarceration come from the left half of the political spectrum, those who side with the less fortunate members of society. Unfortunately, the liberal critics of the system do not have many practical solutions to the problem. Booker T. Washington knew better than W.E.B. Du Bois about some things. Big government has been in charge of state slavery all along, has clearly failed in its experiment and offers little hope by itself.

Our delusion of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, originating as a humanitarian movement, was the idea that people would get better with time if placed in cages or cells. This misconception brought about yet another form of slavery, which is now more prevalent in the United States than in any other country. We have not reached the final chapter of American slavery. We abolished slavery, we thought, and then developed a new form of slavery. Antebellum chattel slavery is gone, but new age American slavery, mass incarceration, is much worse. We are not accustomed to thinking of prisoners as “slaves,” but in all the basic ways, they are state slaves. Although not strictly chattel, prisoners owe absolute obedience, have no physical freedom and little status, enjoy few rights and remain subjugated or abused for many years, in prison and after their release. The United States has gone from an agrarian, paternalistic, personal form of private enterprise slavery to the socialized, impersonal, institutional, mass state slavery through incarceration inside hard surfaces, directed from Washington, D.C. and 50 state capitals. The twisted world of modern mass incarceration, state slavery, is New Age Slavery. Unfortunately, our American prison population is now the largest group of full-ride welfare recipients in the world.

The problem must be approached from market-oriented, racially neutral, biblical, constitutional and pro-American ways. I studied antebellum slavery and determined it was not as horrific for the average slave as our modern media portrays it. This is confirmed on a Library of Congress website where about 2,300 Slave Narratives gathered from 1936 to 1938 are posted. For each horror story of antebellum slavery, there is an ex-slave who remembered the Old South fondly, usually because they had good owners. Modern research proves that slavery was economically efficient, productive and profitable for the slaveholders. Many plantations were self-sufficient in food, clothing and shelter. The slaves commonly had good healthcare, adequate food, clothing and shelter, no financial worries, were in superb physical condition, did not use alcohol or drugs to excess, did not kill each other nearly as much as they do today, worshiped fervently, had fun holidays that Frederick Douglas recognized kept slave discontent down, were never incarcerated, displayed Christian virtues and had many children. Slaves consumed 88% of their own economic production. Slave children were more likely to grow up in a two-parent family than modern American kids.

We can derive some solutions to modern problems from the study of antebellum times if we take the racism and injustice out of our New Age slavery. Obviously, reforms will proceed on a non-discriminatory basis. In a nutshell, we need (1) repeal of three federal statutes inhibiting prison labor and industries, together with (2) an exemption for prison industries from most employment-related laws, to allow laissez-faire negotiation between private employers and prisoners (not convict leasing); and to significantly reduce the number of people in prison: (3) an old-fashioned home monitoring device, a metallic collar, with or without modern electronic enhancements, and (4) corporal punishment (strongly recommended in the Bible and by a dozen ex-slaves I quote, together with George Washington as a general, not as a slaveholder, Thomas Jefferson as a legislator, not as a slaveholder, Cesare Beccaria, etc.). These reforms will allow prison labor to work in a safer, spiritual, more positive environment, in businesses run by religious groups, industry or anyone willing to invest in prison labor and industries.

Corporal punishment has worked everywhere they’ve ever tried it and was a feature of every slave society and most free societies in history. Liberty is preserved with corporal punishment and metallic collars (or modern monitoring devices). After punishment, offenders are not removed from their families, marriages, jobs, schools, churches and communities. Except to incapacitate criminals while in prison, long years of incarceration have failed everywhere to punish, deter or rehabilitate criminals. The supply-side attack method of fighting the war on drugs has failed completely; it is time to attack the demand side with corporal punishment, just as they successfully do in some nations we now regard as backward.

Hard work is nearly the opposite of crime. We need to provide useful work for American prisoners, teaching them how to discipline themselves and prepare for their release, keeping them out of trouble, and breaking the power of prison & street gangs. This can only be accomplished if prison industries are self-supporting and free of most government economic regulation. The public will not pay for other types of rehabilitation and tends to believe “nothing works.” The current economic crisis can be overcome better if we put our human resources to work.

Change is coming. California faces a massive crisis in their prison system, as federal judges, upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, order the release of from 30,000 to 46,000 prisoners California cannot afford to support with medical services. In other states, correctional budgets have increased steadily for years in relation to educational funding. Societies eventually do what makes economic sense with their prisoners. American prisons and penal policies clearly and without question need and will have fundamental reform.
