If so, you may be one of the many Americans who consume as much of their daily liquid in soft drinks as they do in water, milk, and tea combined.

Did you know that the average American drinks 192 gallons of liquid a year? That translates to about 3.7 gallons per week or 2 liters a day, and soft drinks average 28% of this amount. According to Beverage Marketing reports, “Carbonated soft drinks are the single biggest source of calories in the American diet, providing 7-9 % of calories.

Look at these alarming statistics from The National Soft Drink Association (NSDA), “Teenagers get 13 percent of their calories from carbonated and noncarbonated soft drinks” and “consumption of soft drinks is now over 600 12-ounce servings (12 oz.) per person per year. Since 1978, soda consumption in the US has tripled for boys and doubled for girls.”

Author and Nutritionist, Dr. Judith Valentine, writes that this phenomenon is rightly called, “America’s Other Drinking Problem.” Valentine warns, “Even [drinking] as little as one or two sodas per day is undeniably connected to a myriad of pathologies. The most commonly associated health risks are obesity, diabetes and other blood sugar disorders, tooth decay, osteoporosis and bone fractures, nutritional deficiencies, heart disease, food addictions and eating disorders, neurotransmitter dysfunction from chemical sweeteners, and neurological and adrenal disorders from excessive caffeine.”

You need at least 2 quarts of pure water a day for proper organ functions, proper absorption of vitamins, and efficient body system activity. Every system in your body, including your brain, depends on water to function.

Even though you may be relieved that high fructose corn syrup has mostly replaced much-maligned sugar, I have to tell you that syrup has its own dangers to health. It contributes to poor development of collagen, to copper deficiency, and to liver problems resembling those of alcoholics in animals on a high-fructose diet. In fact, Dr. Charles Best, the discoverer of insulin, claims that teenagers who consume too many soft drinks have cirrhosis of the liver similar to what develops in chronic alcoholics.

That friendly and familiar red or perhaps brown soft drink can poses its own danger. Phosphoric acid leaches toxic amounts of aluminum from even the lined soft drink cans into the soft drink and right into your body, where it is deposited in brain and bone tissue, resulting in the same formations in brain tissue as seen in the brains of Alzheimer patients. This aluminum also contributes to bone loss, calcium loss, and osteoporosis.

A note to diet soda drinkers! Diet drinks contribute their own health issues; for example, they contain aspartame, which is a potent neurotoxin and endocrine disrupter. What to Know About TRAM Flap Surgery

When it comes to breast reconstruction, there are a few methods to choose from. Of course, your doctor will likely weigh in on what seems to be best for you, so you will not have to make the decision on your own. But you should get to know the basics of a few of your surgical options, such as TRAM flap surgery.

This acronym stands for transverse rectus abdominus myocutaneous, which is named for a muscle in your abdomen. During this procedure, the doctor will take fat, tissue, and skin from your stomach and move it up toward your chest. This will create breasts that should look and feel fairly natural, depending on the cup size you choose. You will need to plan this detail ahead of time, taking advice from your doctor to determine how large you should go when it comes to your breasts.

TRAM flap surgery is not right for everyone. For example, if you do not have any stomach fat to spare, it may be hard to get this procedure done, especially if you want particularly large breasts. At the same time, you should not be overweight or obese if you want to have a good candidate for this procedure. This is because you could get a hernia in your abdomen once some of the muscle is removed for the operation. Additionally, if you smoke, you might not be a good candidate because the healing of your scar could take longer than usual.

As long as you are a good candidate, TRAM flap surgery has some advantages. For example, your breasts will look and feel natural since there will be fat in them, as opposed to if you were to simply get implants. Plus, you will have the advantage of not putting foreign objects into your body like you would with implants. Of course, you will also be able to get rid of some fat from your stomach, which most patients see as an added bonus of the operation.

The main disadvantage of TRAM flap surgery is that the operation tends to be long, since it is essentially breast reconstruction and a tummy tuck in one day. In addition, the recovery tends to take a while as your body heals from two surgeries. For this reason, you should prepare ahead of time for a long day of surgical operations, followed by a recovery period that will likely last weeks.

You should find out from your doctor if you are a good candidate for TRAM flap surgery. If not, there are other options for breast reconstruction. Either way, as long as you choose a good surgeon, you will likely be happy with the results.

What Causes Spine Pain – Nurse's Guide

If you have spinal pain or tingling, burning, aches and pains or sharp pains in your spine or especially in your neck or lower back, I'll discuss the two main causes.

The first cause of your spinal pain may be due to strains or other types of injuries to your ligaments and muscles, especially in the neck and back.

They're often the result of injuries from participating in various sports. Or if you've stepped up your physical activity in any way that's unusual. Moving, starting an exercise or fitness program, increasing activity at your health club, etc. Pain in the muscles or a group of muscles is called myalgia. So the first cause could be muscular pain

Your spine is made up of bones, called vertebrae; they are joined together by disks, called intervertebral discs along with joints and ligaments. When the spine is working properly it is strong and flexible. The spinal cord is located inside the spine

When you reach middle age then the lifelong wear and tear on the disks and the joints of your spine can be the cause of your spinal or spinal pain. These are called degenerative spine changes. These changes are caused by movement so it will affect the neck and the lower parts of the back more so.

The neck region is called he cervical spine and the lower back is referred to as the lumbar spine. Surgery to remove a ruptured disc is called a laminectomy and is usually a last resort.

The thoracic spinal lies between these two but has the support of the rib cage so it does not move the way the thoracic and cervical spine do. So the areas of the spine above and below the rib cage are the areas most commonly affected. More people complain about neck pain and back pain then you hear about mid-back pain.

When the directory is injured the body's automatic healing mode goes into action. It has a difficult time with the joints of the spine the changes in shape due to herniated, ruptured or bulging discs, ligaments bending and the formation of bone spurs.

In any case you want to protect your spine as much as possible. Avoid sudden jerky movements if at all possible. Watch your post. Do postures exercises to help your spain maintain its proper positioning. Sometimes postures can help relieve pain due to the strengthening of the muscles that support the spinal column. Do these every day.

Practice posture exercises when you're sitting in a chair or walking. Back surgery can often be avoided by strengthening the muscles in the spinal with exercise.

How To Use Super-Sizing, Portion Distortion And Dietary Displacement To Your Advantage

Ever since the independent film, Super Size Me was released, research on the relationship between increasing obesity and increasing proportion sizes has skyrocketed and the results have been virtually unanimous.

There have been numerous well-designed studies published just in the last several years which confirmed exactly what we suspected (and much of what the movie suggested):

* Portion sizes have increased in restaurants and fast food venues on a major scale over the last several decades

* We self-serve ourselves larger portions in the home than we used to

* When more food is put in front of us, we almost always eat more

* Most people underestimate how many calories they are eating

* All of these factors have contributed to the growing obesity problem and the related health problems that come along with it

The obvious solution would seem to be to decrease portion sizes across the board, and indeed awareness of and control over proportion sizes in general is important.

However, research has demonstrated that despite an even better solution is to keep the portion sizes generous, but decrease the energy density (calories per unit of volume) in the foods you put on your plate.

Several studies revealed that eating more low calorie density foods, especially green vegetables, salad vegetables and other fibrous carbs, as well as very lean proteins, contains a feeling of fullness while reducing energy intake.

In other words, large portions of highly nutritious, low calorie foods displaced the less nutritious, calorie-dense foods! Most people allow the bad foods to push out the good foods, but you can actually do the same in reverse!

In a study published in the Journal of The American Dietetic Association, researchers fed one group a compulsory first course salad which was kept low in energy density by using very low calorie dressing with no high calorie toppings no bacon, cheese or croutons, etc.).

After the salad, the subjects were allowed to eat as much pasta as they wanted.

A second group was also allowed to eat as much pasta as they wanted but was not given a compulsory salad to eat beforehand.

The results: As you might guess, eating a low energy density first course enhanced satiety (fullness) and reduced the overall amount of calories that were eaten during the whole meal.

Since the research has repeatedly discovered that almost everyone will eat more when served larger portions than a larger plate or container, and there is obviously a serious issue of "proportion distortion" occurring, another group of scientists and psychologists decided to test this even further by providing larger plates or containers of low energy density, high nutrient density foods before the main course and or in between meals.

When more of the low energy density foods were made available first, the subjects ate even more of these healthy foods, which filled them up even more and reduced the amount of high calorie density foods eaten in the main course.

Reporting their findings in the Journal of Nutrition Education And Behavior, the researchers said that there is a silver lining to all the negative findings about super sized portions and overeating that we have discovered in recent years:

That is, although we eat more when is put in front of us, we can use this phenomenon in reverse by serving large plates, bowls or containers of healthy, low energy density foods like fruits, salads and raw vegetables as snacks and first courses .

"While a small bowl of raw carrots might make for a good afternoon snack," said one of the researchers, "a large bowl might even be better."

What Causes the Lump in Our Throat?

There is none of us that can claim to have never felt a lump in their throat when they were on the verge of an emotional outburst. Before any crying or screaming, this same lump will always rear its ugly head. Talking becomes difficult and even scarier is the shortness of breath. What exactly is this lump in reality?

It is more of a physical sensation and not a real lump contrary to what one may think. There are two tasks trying to be done by the throat simultaneously and this is what causes the lump.

When we are emotional or feel like bursting into tears, this sensation comes about due to the fight or flight state that has kicked in. This state is triggered by our fear or anger stressing the body just before an emotional outburst. The heart is forced to pump faster due to this stress.

When the heart beat accelerates, the lungs have to work equally hard to keep up with the necessity for more air. The large gulps of air that we are taking in as a result force the vocal chords to expand much wider to allow for its passage into the lungs.

Our larynx is formed with a valve like opening at its middle that allows the air that we breathe in to flow into the lungs. Known as the glottis, this hole closes temporarily only when we swallow.

The glottis actions are dictated by the vocal chords. For instance when you decide to scream it is open at its widest and when you swallow something it is closed.

The lumpy sensation we feel can be asserted directly to the deep breaths we are struggling to take. They make the glottis open to its maximum capacity to allow this.

On the other hand, when it comes to crying, we normally try as hard as we can to swallow the tears that are forthcoming. This leads to the compression of the glottis. The simultaneous compression and expansion of the vocal chords at the same time therefore leads to the so called lump in our throats.

There are two parts to our brains- the conscious mind, which handles all things we are aware of and the subconscious mind, which controls everything else. The conscious mind works only some of the time (when we are awake). But the subconscious mind is always at work.

Whether we are aware of it or not, the subconscious mind, not including involuntary physical behaviors such as breathing and our heart beat, works off of signals sent to it from the conscious mind. In other words, whatever we spend our conscious time thinking about most becomes a point of interest for our subconscious mind. And since our subconscious mind is always at work, it puts forth a great deal of effort addressing those topics.

Have you ever gone to bed shortly after watching a scary movie? More often than not you have some sort of nightmares, right? Even if you can’t recall being woken from the nightmares, there is a good chance that you had them. The occurrence of the nightmares is a prime example of the awesome power of our subconscious minds. While you watched the movie your conscious mind was creating thoughts and images of the parts that you found scary. If you don’t change those thoughts before going to sleep, then your subconscious mind has nothing to work with other than the movie you just watched. During sleep is the most effective time for the subconscious mind, because there is no chance of conflicting signals coming from the conscious mind. This is why when making an important decision people will sometimes want to “sleep on it”.

Ultimately your subconscious mind knows what’s in your best interest, and will nudge you in that direction. Without the negative influence of the conscious mind, which tends to make decisions based on emotion rather than logical thought, your subconscious is free to do what it does best. That is, to help you achieve whatever it is you desire.

Now that we’ve determined that sleep is the best time for your subconscious mind to handle its work, we need to be sure that the scary movie thoughts are replaced with positive, problem solving and productive thoughts. This way, when your subconscious mind gets working it is addressing the issues of most importance to you, and not caught up with trivial matters that are out of your control anyway.

Following is a list of ten methods you can apply to your life that will help you access your subconscious mind.

Although the ideal situation would be to apply these tactics right before bed, it’s not practical to expect to do so. I also think there are advantages to applying them throughout the day so that you’re sure the things you want are reaching your subconscious mind.

Like anything else, these concepts will become easier with practice, but even when implemented poorly or improperly, you should still begin to see substantial results.

1. Leave Reminders

The easiest way to be sure you’re thinking about things that are important is to leave physical reminders. There are a number of ways you can do this. The simplest is to write yourself notes. A to-do list can be helpful, though it’s easy to have your primary goals blend in with other, less important daily activities.

What I suggest instead, and have found personal success with, is to firmly and clearly write your goal or desire on an note card or piece of paper and put it in a strategic location. I did this with my recent weight loss goal.The idea being that you will see it often, and the goal or thought will begin to fester in your mind, even if you are unaware of what’s taking place.

Physical reminders use your conscious mind as a bridge to get to your subconscious mind. First, by creating the reminders (i.e. drawing the notes) you are instilling the thought into first your conscious mind, and then your subconscious.

Second, when you place the reminder in a strategic location, one where you will see it frequently, you give the thought an opportunity to take a direct route to your subconscious. (Think subliminal messaging.) If advertisers take advantage of this method so freely, and with such success, why can’t we “trick” ourselves, too?

2. Meditate

I’m not a person who puts myself into deep trances on a regular basis, but as someone who daydreams occasionally, I can attest to the benefits of allowing your mind to drift into a relaxed, thoughtless state.

Thoughtless may be the wrong word. Focused is probably more accurate.

The next time you catch yourself daydreaming, take a moment and think about how focused and in tune with your thoughts you were. That is the state of mind you should shoot for when you meditate. Relax until you are literally lost in thought.

Be sure to have a focused topic as you are drifting into meditation or your thoughts may be misdirected. Take a minute to specifically identify the goals you want to achieve or the problem you’d like to solve. Once you’ve got them clearly in your mind, close your eyes, control your breathing and relax your body. Don’t let those thoughts leave your head. Now visualize (see step 3.) yourself achieving the goals, or functioning in a world where your problem has been solved.

Continue in this state for as long as you feel necessary, and repeat as needed.

3. Visualize

Visualization works best when it’s paired with meditation, but it doesn’t have to be. Meditation puts you in a relaxed state, which makes it easier to create visual sequences. By creating visual sequences you put yourself in a situation that you anticipate yourself being in, before it actually happens. This allows your brain acclimate itself to the situation that is about to occur.

Essentially, visualization is practice for your brain. It’s no different than practicing an athletic event, except rather than training muscles, you’re training your brain, so it knows how you want it to respond in a specific scenario.

To visualize, all you do is create mental pictures (some people prefer videos), of yourself successfully accomplishing something. You would actually see yourself performing the task, either in third or first person, whichever you prefer.

It’s important to remember to create the picture in as much detail as possible, making note of such things as sounds and smells. The more detailed the visualization, the more successful it will be.

Visualize through the entire event or performance, imagining the desired outcome and all the excitement that comes with it. Allow yourself to feel the joy that you will feel when you actually do successfully complete the task. Make it as real and as accurate as possible. Repeat as necessary, and don’t stop until you’re convinced you’ve already achieved the goal.

4. Tell Others About Your Goal

If you were to state your goal or desire aloud on a daily basis, your subconscious mind would have no choice but to listen. In order to speak, your brain must formulate thoughts, and in order to formulate thoughts, your brain must first compile and organize those thoughts. Such a simple thing as telling others about your plans requires that you make important decisions before you can do so.

The entire process is orchestrated by your conscious mind, which relays the plan to the subconscious. Suddenly, you’ve opened up the channel of communication between the two minds, simply by stating your thoughts. While you’re explaining away, your subconscious has already begun working on how you’re going to accomplish your goal.

A beneficial byproduct of this step is the accountability factor. This is another strategy that I used when starting my weight loss plan. The more people you tell of your plan, the more people you will let down if you fail to achieve it. For me, the accountability aspect adds an extra element of motivation to my already desired goal. It is also a huge help when dealing with procrastination.

5. Talk to Those Who’ve Been There

Trails are blazed for a reason. Could you imagine if every time you wanted to do something you had to completely start from scratch? What if recipes had to be invented new each time? Or if computers weren’t built based on successes and failures of previous builds? Imagine how impossible progression would be on this planet.

Thankfully, that isn’t the case in manufacturing and cooking, and there’s no reason why it should be in life either. If there’s a particular thing you’d like to do with your life, then make it a point to speak to someone who has already done it. If you can’t get in touch with them, then read everything you can about them, or study their career. Do everything in your power to follow the path that they created for themselves. If there’s something you’d rather do differently, you can always veer off, but there is no need to insist on being a pioneer to get to the same place someone else already has.

You don’t have to stop being your own person to follow a blueprint for success. Having a plan that is already proven successful will allow your subconscious mind to work on the nuts and bolts of following the plan rather than designing its own plan. The closer you can get your subconscious mind to the heart of the matter, the better.

It begins with starting down the right road.

6. Set a Deadline

Tell your subconscious mind that you mean business. If you were to combine a deadline with the accountability factor, you’d give yourself no choice but to accomplish your goal.

A deadline tells your subconscious mind that there is an urgent matter at hand, and it must be taken care of immediately. Your mind will feel the importance of the matter, and will make all the necessary adjustments to be sure that the proper attention is given to solving this problem, which it understands to be the most pressing.

Even if it isn’t the most important thing going on in your life, a deadline will keep your mind working on it, until it’s met.

The amazing thing about the subconscious mind is it does whatever it takes to accomplish the things that you ask it to. Attaching a deadline to a particular goal simply increases the rate at which the subconscious mind works, without you even realizing it.

7. Maintain Focus

It’s extremely easy to become distracted from the goals that are most important.

Typically, when you lose focus on what’s important it’s because your conscious mind becomes occupied with something. Although your subconscious mind wants to continue working on the original plan, your attention is diverted from the ultimate goal to something more timely, but usually not nearly as important.

When your focus shifts, the ability of your subconscious mind to take on and solve the problems you’ve laid out for it becomes significantly lower. To counteract this, you’ve got to make a conscious effort to maintain your focus on the issues that you want your subconscious to concentrate on. By this I mean you’ve got to be aware of the distractions that are presented to your conscious mind, and do your best to flush them out.

Once you understand how to filter your thoughts so that only the absolutely important ones make it to your subconscious, you’re on your way to realizing its potential.

8. Chart Progress

The only way to truly understand progress is to see where you were then, and compare it to where you are now. To see a visual map of the road you traveled is an important step towards reaching your ultimate goal.

To begin, take the goal you’d like to achieve, the one that you’ve been calling on your subconscious mind to accomplish, and write it down in as much detail as you can.

Next, identify a few of the stages or milestones that you plan to reach on the way towards achieving that goal. Keep them in your mind as necessary benchmarks.

Now when you approach those benchmarks you’ll be able to see how far you’ve come, as well as how much further you have to go.

The road map lets your subconscious know that it’s on the right track, that it’s making progress, and what the next benchmark is, so it can apply its efforts accordingly.

9. Be Realistic

It’s easy to tell your subconscious that your goal is to end world hunger. However, when you do that, and then realize that such a goal is beyond your scope of ability, you’ve set yourself up for failure. As a result you become discouraged and risk losing faith in yourself.

A better way to accomplish your goal is to set a goal that challenges you, yet is realistic. If ending world hunger is your ultimate goal, how about setting your first goal at ending hunger in your community. Once you’ve accomplished that goal, then you can broaden your scope and work on something bigger.

Give your subconscious mind a challenging goal, but pace yourself. Going for it all right off the bat is a recipe for disaster.

10. Persevere & Persist

Understand now that there will be setbacks. There will be struggles and difficulties. But keep in mind that those things are only temporary.

No setback has to be permanent. It only becomes so if you allow it. It’s your responsibility to train your subconscious and conscious minds to see the difference between setbacks and failures.

When you hit a roadblock, go around it. When you have a bridge to cross, cross it with confidence.

Tell yourself that no matter what, you will accomplish that goal. Your subconscious mind, once it has the assurance that you want it to work on a goal, will do whatever it takes to succeed. But if it has the slightest bit of doubt (i.e. you’re not totally convinced of what your want, or if you can accomplish it) then it struggles to find solutions.

Be persistent, persevere through tough times, decide confidently in what you want and allow no temporary setback to put you off course.

If you relay this message to your subconscious mind by making a conscious decision that this is what you want, your subconscious mind will respond.

You Control Your Destiny

Remember, your subconscious mind exists to serve you. Put it to work in a productive way and it will provide overwhelming results.

Make conscious decisions that are in the best interest of your overall goals, and your subconscious mind will receive the message, and go to work.

The more you utilize the great power that your subconscious mind provides, the better you will be at calling on it. And the better you get at calling on it, the more success you will realize.

Only you control your destiny. You have the ability to make decisions that impact your life. Take advantage of the power you have to make the best decisions.

Stop Being a Downer! How to Stop Being a Negative Person

Negativity is a habit. It’s a mindset and an attitude. If you want to stop being a downer, then you need to change your negative thoughts, words and feelings and focus on better perspectives. Here is how you can begin to make that shift from negative to positive.

    Begin by noticing your thoughts.

Your daily thought patterns are habits. Sometimes bad habits, sometimes good habits. Unless you are taking the time to be conscious of the thoughts that run through your head, you’ll be functioning on auto-pilot. And if you have set negative thoughts as your head pilot on your attitude and actions, it’s only going to lead you to be a negative person who’s always a downer for others. Start taking notice of your thoughts. Then begin to change them.

    You can control what you think.

Taking over your thoughts all day long is tiring for sure and unnecessary. As you start seeing a negative thought cross your mind, set out the intention to rephrase it so that it doesn’t sound so negative. It doesn’t have to sound all happy-go-lucky all the time, but just something that feels a little less negative.

For example, if you look out the window each morning and see it’s cold, wet and rainy again, instead of complaining or thinking negative thoughts about the weather (like I hate winter! It’s always ugly here!) think about how there is a season for all types of weather. Think about how it’s normal to have rainy days and sunny days. Think about how the plants and vegetation need the water. Or think, ‘The weather isn’t going to determine my attitude today”.

Learn to replace each negative thought you regularly think with one that feels a bit less down. Aim for just changing a few thoughts at a time. Find the ones you think of often throughout your day. If it’s work related, then remember that you chose to go to work today. Perhaps this will be one of those days where there is a surprise at work.

    Stop Complaining.

No one likes a chronic complainer. It’s not a lot of fun being around people who are always pointing out the wrong, negative or possible problems that could go wrong. We humans don’t thrive on the lower end of the emotional scale. You are no different. You prefer the happy and positive people. Begin with yourself and like what you have to say. You don’t like when others complain to you. You don’t really want to have to deal with other people’s worries, so why would you unload that onto others? Learn to stop complaining by remembering that saying, ‘If you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.’ You’ll like yourself better when you keep your mouth shut in these situations.

    Look for things you like about yourself.

Negative people tend to not have a lot of positive things to say about themselves. How about you? If you think positively of yourself, then how come you are so critical about others? If you’re in the latter group, the one where you put yourself down a lot, it’s time to change this attitude and habit. Focus on the few bits about yourself you do like. You don’t have to be perfect or unique to like some of your skills and talents. Learn to find positive things to think about yourself and watch how that becomes part of how you interact with others.

Being more positive starts with you, with how you think about yourself and life in general. You can always see the glass as half empty (downer) or half full (uplifter). In today’s auto shop there are many potential hazards to the fragile human body. In order to have a safe and productive work environment, there are simple steps that need to be taken in order to insure the physical safety of everyone in your automotive service shop. There are many tools and pieces of equipment in use that can potentially seriously injure someone. The first step is to take census of your auto or mechanical shop and locate machinery and tools that can be potentially hazardous. Any machine or tool that can cause a serious injury must be safeguarded. For example, a band saw is common tool in a mechanical shop and has the ability to cut off fingers and limbs. This piece of equipment needs to be safeguarded and all applicable safety features should be correctly installed. It is all too common to the plastic safety guards removed on a table saw because they are in the way of the operator. Safety cannot be sacrificed for convenience.

But remember machinery is not the only hazard, you need to be aware of in the shop. The power cords and air hoses that power equipment also presents a tripping hazard. Many auto shops have several air hoses and power cords stretched all over the place and most of them are not even being used at the moment. To combat this problem and help keep your shop floor clutter free we recommend using an air hose reel. Air hose reels are mounted on the shop walls and are usually self retracting. When a mechanic finishes working with his air tools, the air hose can be retracted and stored with a quick tug on the hose. There are similar devices for extension cords as well. Lets face it, a mechanic is much more inclined to keep his air hoses and power cords retracted if its easy and an air hose reel makes it easy. Also, spilled grease oil and oil can collect on a shop floor and produce a slipping hazard. It is inevitable that motor oil and grease will end up on the concrete floor. Most auto shops have containment spill kits that can contain the oil spill and aid in cleaning it up the minute it happens.

The next level of safety is the person. Once the auto shop is a safe and secure environment, you will need to consider the mechanics and other workers in the area. Eye protection should be worn at all times. There is almost always some type of work going on that is a potential hazard your fragile eyes. For example, grinders and needle scalers are capable of throwing debris a long way from the point of contact. People working in the same area are in just as much danger is the operator using the tool. Also, chemicals and gasoline can be splashed onto unprotected eyes causing anything from mild discomfort to blindness.
