Symptoms Occurring During Anxiety Attacks

We all have to deal with stress and anxiety in our normal, day to day lives. Some days are more stressful than others, and we often get to the point where we do not know how to handle the amount of stress that we are under. Statistics show that at least one out of every seventy five people who inhabit the world will experience at least one major anxiety attack during their lifetime. Studies have also shown that seventy-five percent of anxiety attack sufferers are women between the ages of twenty and thirty years old. These first anxiety attacks often send sufferers to the emergency room, as symptoms sometimes mimic other disorders, such as heart attacks. For some, they will have the one anxiety attack, and may never have another. Anxiety attacks are characterized as experiencing a tremendous fear that strikes you suddenly and with no warning. No one knows exactly what triggers anxiety attacks, but they are very real when they occur.

Once an anxiety attack begins, it usually reaches its peak after about the first two minutes. Depending on the severity of the attack, it can take as long as several hours for all the symptoms to completely disappear. Many of the symptoms accompanying an anxiety attack can be extremely frightening on their own, but coupled with the fear you already feel from the attack itself, can be very overwhelming, especially the first time they occur.

Anxiety attacks can cause any number of symptoms, which can cause fear themselves, let alone the original fear caused by the attack. One of the most common symptoms accompaniment anxiety attacks is the feeling that you are suffocating, or can not get enough air to breathe. You may feel like you can not hold anymore air, but that what you have is not enough, or that someone is actually holding something over your nose and mouth shutting off your air supply. Of course, this is not the case, but that is the way you feel. Frequent sufferers of anxiety attacks have to learn that these symptoms are only a nervous reaction, and not really happening to them. You will not stop breathing, or die from lack or air, and no one is trying to suffocate you, even though it may feel that way.

Due to the anxiety your body feels during an attack, it will release extra adrenaline into your bloodstream, which will cause your heart to beat at a much faster pace, and it may feel as though it is beating at an irregular rhythm or missing beats altogether . You are not having a heart attack, this is just another symptom caused by anxiety attacks. Sometimes, anxiety has the opposite effect on your heart, slowing it down, which can be alarming as it feels as though it may stop beating altogether, but again, it is just a reaction to the anxiety your body is experiencing. It will go away once the attack subsides.

During an anxiety attack, it is common for all of the muscles in your body to contract, or become tense. This muscle tension incidentally causes chest pain during an anxiety attack. When someone experiences any kind of chest pain, their first thought is that they are having a heart attack, but that is not the case in this situation. The pain that you feel with a heart attack most often will begin as localized pain in a different area of your body, such as pain in your left arm that radiates into your chest. Learning some relaxation exercises that you can use to calm yourself during an anxiety attack can help lessen this chest pain. Massage is also another method for relieving muscle tension, and can help eliminate the pain faster.

You may feel that you are choking, and can not swallow anything at all without it getting stuck in your throat. Again, this is your body's reaction to overwhelming anxiety, and will go away as soon as the attack is over. You will not choke to death, and can still eat and drink; it just makes you feel very uncomfortable for a time.

One alarming symptom to those around you that occurs during an anxiety attack is that you tend to lose your skin coloring, causing you to look very pale and sickly. Blood gets diverted to your muscles during an anxiety attack, causing your skin to lose its normally pink coloring. Your coloring will return to normal as soon as the attack is over.

It is not uncommon to sweat profusely during an anxiety attack. Your body temperature increases due to the adrenaline your body releases, and sweat is your body's way of lowering your temperature to a normal range.

Other common symptoms during an anxiety attack include tremors, pain in the neck or shoulders, nausea or diarrhea, heartburn, and sometimes unusual breakouts of skin rashes, such as eczema. Almost all of these symptoms will disappear shortly after the attack is over, and you may not experience any of these symptoms at all. Learning to recognize the changes that take place in your body during an anxiety attack, will help you be better prepared should you ever have another occurrence.

Secrets To Keeping Your Car Looking Like New For 10 Years

Most personal finance experts would agree that keeping your vehicle for up to 10 years is a good economical decision. The economics of keeping a vehicle that long are overwhelmingly convincing. So why is it so rare to find someone who owns the same car that long? After all, today most cars will keep working long after a couple hundred thousand miles. So, why do people keep buying a new car when there is nothing wrong with the one they have? Peer pressure? Maybe it looks out of date? This might be true, especially when the new edition undergoes major styling changes. Maybe it is because people start worrying about the likelihood of a major mechanical problem.

We have found that if you can keep it looking new through a proven strategy it will be much more difficult to make that new car purchase. So what can be done to slow down the aging process? How can a car be used on a regular basis and not age. There is no one particular activity, but rather several things that contribute to a common goal. The following is a list of ways to keep the appearance of your car looking like new.

1. By far, the number one way to keep your vehicle looking like new is to KEEP IT IN THE GARAGE AT NIGHT. Most people think the damage results from the grueling midday heat and dust that bake the dirt into the paint and plastic, however, the most destructive time is at night, when the cool moisture condensates on the surface of the car. This is the source of the problem. We live in a basin here in Los Angeles which is packed with automobiles moving about all day. The exhaust, pollution and road grime, rise up into the atmosphere during the hot days and are suspended there until the cool sea air moves in and captures the pollution in the moisture that will condensate on the car. That morning dew sitting on the horizontal surfaces of the vehicle is a sulfur /acidy toxic cocktail of all the junk in our air. It eats into the paint, the trim around the doors, yellows headlights and destroys the rubber parts. No test lab can recreate that! The moisture is not horribly bad, but if this process is done every night for 5 to 8 years, it will take its toll on the exterior.

2. Keep the vehicle under an overhang at night. The next best thing to a garage would be to keep the vehicle from getting dew on it at night. Reread the reason in the paragraph above. The next best long term protection is the overhang. (Car covers are helpful when the vehicle will sit at the airport for 2 weeks or in your driveway for a week. As a daily defense, it is a good idea, but with time it is a hassle as well as too dirty to put on the car. )

3. Regular waxing. Regular waxing is every 3 to 4 months or every 5,000 miles. So by the time your vehicle has 20,000 miles on it, it should have 4 coats of wax. Waxing gives the car a micro thin layer of protection from the elements. As the vehicle gets older, the attention to the exterior should increase. Occasionally, the paint should be polished to restore clarity to the surface. Polishing the paint every 1 1/2 years or ever 15,000 miles will increase the life of the wax, and maintain the paint in top condition.

4. Regular washes on the exterior will keep the vehicle free of dust and contaminants. The longer dirt and dust sit on the paint, the more likely it will start to adhere to the surface.

5. Paint protection film by 3M is the best way to keep the paint rock chip free. By applying this film to the bumper and hood, it will defend the original vehicle paint from damage. This film is removable and does not have any long term effect to the paint. Conceivably, this film could be removed in 10 years after installation, and the paint would look like the day it came off the assembly line. Truly the best long term solution for the everyday driver.

6. Window tint. Protect the interior from fading and drying out with a lifetime warranty film. During the day, the vehicles interior is vulnerable to the harmful effects of the suns UV Rays. Window tint blocks out 100% of the ultraviolet rays. It also reduces the internal heat and cuts down on glare. With regular interior detailing and window tint, the interior will look like the day it was installed. Also, window tint improves the comfort of the passenger and drivers.

7. Biannual cleaning of the motor will ensure proper visibility of fluid levels. It can improve preventative maintenance inspection and keeps the motor running cooler. Furthermore, mechanics respect a clean motor and are more likely to clean up after themselves.

8. Periodic removal of small door dings and dents. The cost of keeping your doors “ding” free is really reasonable and the process of Paintless Dent Removal is non invasive. It is impossible to keep a daily driver from eventually getting a door ding, but the good news is that they can be messaged out and restored to its original position. No painting or bondo is necessary and the vehicle maintains its original factory paint.

9. Deep cleaning Detail. Every 1.5 to 2 years the vehicle should get a complete detail. Most people will wait until the vehicle is so bad, something has to be done. For a potted plant, that is the equivalence of waiting until the leaves are turning brown before it gets watered.

10. Achieving a like new vehicle after 10 years will require preemptive or preventive care. Scheduled detailing appointments over a 1 year time period will help to keep the vehicle on track. The paint job cannot remind you it needs waxing. So do not wait until you notice the car getting a little shabby before you act. Lastly, the mechanical part of the vehicle is just as important. We strongly recommend the adherence to all schedule mechanical maintenance.

Cold Calling Methods to Radically Increase Sales

Cold calling methods that are new and effective are hard to come by. Why? Well because there is only so much you can do on the phone and cold calling methods have been around so long that most people are immune to them. But there is a solution.

Consumers today are not going to fall for the old cold calling methods that your sales manager is teaching you. So what do you do?

What you need to do is to find new ways to market and get your message across to your prospects. I find that the most effective way to sell is not by cold calling but by using marketing to supplement and even totally replace cold calling.

So your new cold calling method is not on the phone but off the phone. Here's what you need. You need targeted advertising to reach hundreds if not thousands of people that allows the individuals who are interested a way contact you or submit their contact information to you so you can contact them. Sound difficult? If it does do not worry, because it's not.

Advertising could be anything from banner ads, websites, magazine and newspaper articles, signs, direct mail, flyers, blogs, etc, etc. All these methods even work for local markets so do not worry. There are literally hundreds of ways to advertise and a lot of them are free if you know how to do it. See, we're already coming up with new "cold calling methods."

Once you figure out what advertising method you want you need to funnel them into one source. This will allow you to track, test, and improve your marketing. Once you have all your advertising going to one source you need to get their information or compel them enough to contact you. This again is easier than it sounds once you figure it out.

After you have this system in place all you have to do is respond to the people who call you and contact the people who have sent you their information. And there you have it, no more cold calling. Plus, you are now selling to highly qualified and interested leads. This puts you in such a position of power. I would take that over over any other cold calling method any day.

How To Recover After A Skateboarding Session

If you’re like me, you love to skate. A two to three hour session at your local park isn’t uncommon, and it leaves you feeling amazing. People skate for all types of reasons, but it goes without saying that the health benefits you stand to gain from skateboarding like feeling amazing after exercise, and the challenge and rewards available make us keep wanting more. The problem I face, and a lot of other skaters face is the soreness and aching after a session. This can be especially apparent the next day. Some skaters deal with it differently than others. Some people seem immune to the pain and can wake up every day and go skate like crazy, no matter how beat up they got the day before. For the rest of us, here are some solid tips to getting the most out of your skate sessions without feeling beat up the next day.

Skate more often: It may seem counterintuitive at first, but skateboarding is like any physical activity. If you don’t do it for a while then your body has a harder time getting used to the abuse. Some people live in a climate that is cold and rainy during the winter, so they stop skating for a few months until it gets warm again. Then come spring time their body isn’t used to all the banging around and goes through a phase of soreness for a while before it can adapt itself again. If you ride your skateboard more often, your body will stay adapted to the abuse, and it won’t hurt as much after a session. This doesn’t mean going out every day to jump down a 20 stair because you’ll get better at it. This kind of abuse can lead to serious injuries, but if you skate a little bit every day, and work on progressing through your learning curves while maintaining a positive attitude, you will have a better time and get more enjoyment out of it.

Stretching before and after your sessions: It’s easy to get in a couple of toe touches and butterflies just after you start skating hard, and just after you stop skating. In fact, if you don’t make time for stretching, you will have to make time for injuries and soreness later on. Pro skaters do it all the time. They have to compete, film, and jump down huge things all the time to make money, so they learn from the best physical trainers in the world. Those physical trainers will teach you first that in order to avoid injuries while working out, you must learn to stretch. If you haven’t stretched much recently, it’s OK. Start now, and take it slow. Stretch in the morning when you wake up, in the afternoon, just after you get warmed up skating and just after your skate sesh, then stretch again before bed. This much stretching throughout the day will make your body loose and limber, and will help blood and oxygen flow through your muscles and joints, repairing them faster. It’s also a great idea to stretch your upper body like your neck, back and arms.

Doing a warm-down: Just as warming-up is important in skating to ensure you don’t fall when you first start skating, warming-down is important to ensure your muscles have a moment to decompress. To do a warm-down, do some light walking. I usually walk around the skate park after I’m done skating. This can be combined with filming your friends or taking pictures if you’re a photographer. It will help get the blood flowing to your joints for some added recovery.

Eat or drink lots of protein after a sesh: I read lots of blogs and forums about people looking for the best recovery methods, and this one is the same throughout. You must eat or drink lots of protein, 30-50 grams, immediately following a workout, along with coconut water or Gatorade. Your body needs the protein to rebuild the muscle, and the energy drink will replenish glycogen levels and raise insulin levels. Insulin can help restore muscle proteins by inhibiting protein breakdown and stimulating protein synthesis. Since I am vegan, I recommend a plant-based protein shake. You can find these at your local sprouts, whole foods, or online at Amazon.com. Granted, they aren’t cheap, but if you really don’t want to feel as sore after a skate session, they might be worth a try. Also, eating or drinking potassium rich substances after a workout will help replenish spent reserves. Coconut water has lots of potassium in it, making it an excellent post workout drink. I get mine at the local 99 cents store to save money. Make sure to get the one without any added sugar. Your body also needs things like sodium and calcium to refuel muscle energy. Bananas and sweet potatoes are great sources of potassium, sodium and calcium. Add these to your post-skate session meals and you’ll feel better in no time. Also, grapes and cherries have antioxidants in them that help your body relieve soreness in your joints. Another tip is to take fish oil or flax seed oil pills. The omega-3, 6 and 9 do wonders for lubricating your joints.

Get better sleep: Sleep is essential to rebuilding muscles, joints and tendons. If you stay up late partying or watching TV after skate sessions, you won’t get the benefits that sleep offers. To make the most out of your Z’s, get at least 8-9 hours of sleep every night. If you’re like me and have trouble falling asleep, you can try to take an herbal supplement like melatonin or valerian root (I found a supplement called ‘relax & sleep’ at my local Dollar Tree). Drinking a hot cup of chamomile tea will also help. Additionally, committing yourself to a ‘technology-blackout’ after 9 pm every night will help you get to bed easier. Whatever it takes, get the sleep you need to recoup and you’ll be able to skate every day at to your fullest potential!

Reduce stress: Acute stress, like the type you get from exercising, is good for you. Chronic stress, like when you don’t get enough sleep, or when you have a paper due at school, is not good for you. To recover completely from your skate sessions in the fastest way possible, make time to do stress-relieving exercises like short hikes, hanging out with friends, and riding a bicycle. These are all things known as active-recovery, and can go a long ways in helping you recover mentally from a hard skate session. Getting social with good friends and laughing are the best ways to relieve stress.

Ice, then take a hot bath: Icing your ankles after a skate session for 10-15 minutes, then bathing in hot water will relax your muscles and make it easier for them to recover the next day. The icing reduces swelling that might happen if you landed on your ankles really hard, and the hot water relieves the tension in your muscles making it easier for blood to move through them. Combined with an after workout stretch, icing and a hot bath can be an excellent way to recover after a skate session.

Body weight squats: Doing proper body weight squats during the day and between skate session will strengthen the connective tissue around your joints, and in effect you’ll have more stability around the joints in your ankles, hips and pelvis. First you’ll want to learn how to do proper body weight squats.

I hope these tips help you have more fun with skateboarding. No doubt it can be very painful at times, but it’s overcoming our personal challenges and getting the reward of rolling away from a trick that make it all worth it. I love skateboarding, and I’m sure you do to. That’s why if it was up to me, I would skate all day every day. However, as we age our bodies don’t recover as quickly, but if you take these 5 tips to heart, maybe your recoveries will be faster, and you’ll be out skating again in no time!

Attention Deficit Disorder – Do you feel alone?

It can be difficult growing up with attention deficit disorder . Many of us feel like we have let the whole world down; friends, family, teachers, significant others, and most importantly, ourselves. In school we were given assignments; we would try our best to accomplish them and usually found something more exciting that got our attention. When it came time to hand in the work, it was not done. Once again, we see the disappointed look on the teacher's face we came to know so well. In class, we were either, bouncing off the walls, bugging kids, or being the class clown. Sometimes, depending on what type of attention deficiency disorder we had, we were sitting quietly in a corner, staring out the window, mentally disappearing without anyone noticing. Then came test time. If we could manage to sit still long enough and focus on the dry material, we studied twice as hard as a lot of our class mates only to end up barely passing, or failing the test. This was the same routine over and over again. This became all that we knew. The thoughts of being a failure, a disappointment, grow and grow. The self esteem was now, at an all time low.

As we grow older, it did not get much easier. Sure, a few management tips were developed along the way, but the underlying effects ADD played on us were still there. Now, work and relationships begin to develop. We were learning new management skills to handle those situations. In the work place we could not figure out why we kept fighting and disagreeing with the boss. Why we seemed to go from job, to job, to job. Meanwhile we get into relationships that seem to end before they start. Its not that we do not care about the person, it's just we have problems listening, focusing and communicating.

Does this sound familiar? Have you, or do you experience a lot of the same things. This can be so common for people with ADD and ADHD. It may not all be the same but a lot of the basics are true for us all. You feel like a failure, stupid, or insignificant.

There are so many gifts that come with being an individual with attention deficiency disorder. Sometimes we are so stuck judging and questioning ourselves that it is hard to see past the failures that we believe we have become. If you have ADD or ADHD you were gifted with creativity. It may be hard to acknowledge because we have cooked so hard to suppress it all these years, but it is there. When some people are thinking one way, do you ever notice you are thinking the other way? When a problem arises, do you have a gift for solving it? We are able to see beyond what is, and create what could be. We just may need a little help to do it.

There are many ways to bring out the gift inside you. It can be important to get help controlling your disorder, seeing as there is no cure for AD / HD. There are doctors and specialists that focus on treating the individual with attention deficit disorder as a 'whole'. They address not only the symptoms but the underlying cause of them. The Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Obesity and the Truth About Six Pack Abs – The Best Hack I Learned From Mike Geary

I was in a forum somewhere sharing thoughts about how Mike's program, the Truth about Six Pack Abs, helped me with my last 50 pounds of weight loss … after I had hit a plateau doing my own thing at home, using only my knowledge as a trainer to lose the 100 plus pounds of fat I had packed on; and I realized that the one thing I learned from Mike was not about fitness, or even dieting, per se.

In his most recent version of his eponymous The Truth About Six Pack Abs, he is as concise and articulate as ever about the value diet in the grand scheme of seeing that six pack. He points out, time and time again, that it does not matter how many ab exercises you do – if you do not get your nutrition in line, and if you can not do the core exercises (squat, deadlift, bench press , front squat), you are not going to see those abs.

In fact, the point he hit home, and what finally made the difference to me over 2.5 years ago, is – its ALL about the food. For EVERYONE. I know – that seems very obvious – almost cheeky – but its dead on. Even those very rare 2-3 percent that he talks about, the smallest amount of the population that can actually see their abs, and the ones we are all trying to join. While they "might" be genetically gifted, the truth is that they have to be very lean to have their abs exposed, and the only thing that gets the abs exposed, or keeps them exposed is a low body fat percentage.

He is honest when he states that some men can start to see the ridges in their abdominal muscles around 10-12 percent, with that six or eight pack showing at 4-8 percent. He is also very upfront stating that it is very difficult for most people to stay that low in body fat percentage. Women generally can look trim in the 14-16 percent range, where they looked shredded at 8-10 percent, based on the difference in body fat distribution. But again, he emphasizes that no amount of exercise can get you there, if your diet is not dialed in.

And while I, admittedly, have not attained the elusive 8-10 percent body fat (YET) to see my abdominal muscles, Mike's Truth about Six Pack Abs, and his sincerity in helping people realize that diet is the key to making it happen – not some special exercise, supplement or powder, really helps me to realize I can get there too; even at 45 years of age, if I keep focusing on what and how I am eating.

The sad reality is that I spend nearly 30 years of my life, including my college education and my training and certification as a personal trainer, trying to figure out what workouts I needed to do, to eat what I wanted to eat … when the simplest way to look at it was eating for health and body weight … and doing exercise to feel strong and fit. All of that for $ 39 dollar? Sometimes it is hard to believe the answers can be so simple ….

If you want to change the way your body looks – without spending hundreds of dollars on personal trainers – try Mike's program. It's sound, logical, honest and EFFECTIVE.

Rather than choosing a modern star to showcase this gorgeous new piece of footwear, Puma have released the boot with Argentine Legend Diego Maradona at the head of it's campaign, and released these special edition King Diego Finale's as part of the World Cup winner's 50th birthday celebrations .

These strictly-limited Puma King Diego Finale's are all about adding sumptuous detailing to the King Finale template; the first of note is the exclusive colourway – Puma have dubbed it White / Midnight Navy / Crystal Blue / Gold, but there is no doubt that the colors featured are based on the famous La Albiceleste of the Argentina National strip.

Maradona extended his involvement with the national team in 2010, when he managed Argentina in the World Cup finals in South Africa. After a graduation start to the campaign, Maradona was unable to guide his side to the same heights as he experienced when he lifted the World Cup in 1986. Maradona was the undated star of the tournament, not only for lifting the trophy, but also for the "Hand of God" incident.

The King Diego Finale football boots are a fitting tribute to the superstar from Argentina.

Demystifying Antioxidants

Simply put, antioxidants take damaged molecules and turn them into healthy molecules. They help prevent tissue damage as a result of aging. In and of themselves they do not repair wrinkles and, while they are important to the repair of photodamage and providing protection, they do not block UVB rays. Ample amounts of antioxidants are required to outpace the aging process. Important antioxidants often come in the form of vitamins; ie, A, C and E, and also betacarotene.

Vitamin A – the benefits are well known to estheticians and skin thereapists in helping to prevent and restore damaged skin. You'll see it listed in your ingredients as retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate and retinol, or in the prescription form known as retinoic acid. It is a fat soluble vitamin that is not present in the body but is important to general health and for skin! You can add it through your diet in the form of egg yolks, fish oils, milk, liver and certain vegetables. Every good skin system has a Vitamin A product as they are easily assimilated into the body when applied topically. It can cause irritation or redness however, so it is important when using the prescription form to start slow and monitor your skin as you increase your application.

Vitamin E – another antioxidant that protects collagen from being destroyed by UV rays, and very sensitive to free radicals. It is best used in conjunction with Vitamin C, which reactivates it to its original form, so they are intertwined in their activity and important teams.

Vitamin C – another water-soluble antioxidant and has a few important roles, including its role in reactivating Vitamin E (see above), as well as preventing the oxidation of Vitamin A, and helps prevent the production of melanin, which results in hyperpigmentation. It is a popular vitamin that is utilized by the body for many functions, which can leave the body vulnerable to depletion or deficiency. Therefore, it must be included in your diet, added through supplements and, in the case of skin, provided through topical products. It was quickly realized that the original Vitamin C serums that arrived on the market deteriorated quickly (they actually became "oxidants" instead of antioxidants!) When exposed to light and air. First they tested bottles that pretended light from reaching the product inside, and pumps that would not expose it to air until the time of application. Now there are new delivery systems that prevent them from breaking down prior to use and giving them a longer shelf life.

Resveratrol is a water-soluble antioxidant that has been called a "miracle molecule" that can pass through cell membranes to treat from within the cell, and can also pass through the blood-brain barrier, making it possible to treat the brain where other, larger compounds can not. As a result of the large amount of publicity about the French Paradox Study, researchers investigating the potential positive effects of red wine consumption historically focused on resveratrol, one of the substitutes found in red wine.

Other Antioxidants – look for Selenium (a precursor to Vitamin A), beta-carotene, superoxide dismutase and alpha lipoic acid, all proven effective in the fight against aging.

Fast and Effective Penis Enlargement

If you are looking for fast male enhancement methods I can safely presume that you are already aware of the fact that it is possible to add size to the male genitalia safely and naturally without resorting to extreme procedures like surgery and bizarre products like pumps and weights.

Methods that are credited with being safe and effective means of penile enhancement include:

  1. Traction Devices
  2. Exercises and
  3. Natural Pills

Although natural pills can not add size to your male shaft on their own, they can play a cruel role in complete sexual enhancement. While traction devices have gained a lot of popularity exercises are still preferred over traction devices simply because exercises do not take much time to perform. All you need is just 15-20 minutes a day where as you need to wear the device for 2-6 hours a day. Not only can a traction device be expensive but my personal opinion is that wearing a device can prove to be quite uncomfortable. Moreover, if someone makes out that you are wearing a device, things could get really embarrassing. It's like telling the whole world that you are not well endowed down there.

Fast Penis Enlargement

Although exercises and traction devices on their own are quite efficient methods of male enhancement, there is a better approach which can enhance the speed of male enhancement procedure. By combining two or more male enhancement products you can get noticeable penile growth in a reliably shorter period of time.

There are products and packages that include a traction device and exercise program, natural pills and a traction device or exercises and natural pills. Eight Compelling Reasons Why We Should All Have a Hobby

A while ago I came across an article that talked about the worrying trend of adults collecting stickers for sticker collections. The word ‘worrying’ struck me. Worrying is all those other terrible things adults do every day causing harm to themselves, others and the planet. Collecting stickers is not worrying. I’ve talked before about adults engaging in playtime so won’t go on about it here. My point is as adults it’s okay to do the things we enjoy – hey isn’t life stressful enough?

Hobbies are a way of filling your leisure time with something you are interested in. The great thing about them is you can choose what you do. They are for your enjoyment and satisfaction. Whether it is bird watching, playing soccer, collecting stamps, dancing, singing, there are a multitude of activities out there. They are perfect opportunities to express your creativity, curiosity, competitive nature, love of beauty and so much more. You may do it outside, inside, alone or with others. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you have chosen it and you enjoy it. Don’t give a damn about what other people think – this is for you after all.

In this article I want to talk about some of the very good reasons why we should all have a hobby. Hopefully they will spur you on every week or even every day to take up a hobby, resume an old one or ramp up an existing passion.

1 Gives your life meaning and purpose

Having a hobby gives you a sense of purpose. It ensures you have something to live for, look forward to and get excited by. You don’t have to wait for a grand once-in-a-lifetime vacation to get this feeling. You can have it every day simply through your hobby. Obviously it would be nice if your job gave you meaning. Maybe it does. But for some, the lack of control may make it harder. However, with a hobby that you have chosen you are consciously and actively creating meaning in your life. There’s even better news. Recent research has shown that people with a sense of purpose live longer. Hobbies are an opportunity for you to set yourself goals and then use your free time to achieve them. Your time is spent on something that is important to you. By taking up a hobby, suddenly your life has a direction it may not have had previously.

2 Managing stress

Life can be super stressful. We have so many demands and it can sometimes feel overwhelming. However if you have a pastime you can turn to during difficult times you will be doing wonders for your health. Because too much stress leads to physical changes in the body that can cause long term harm. For some, it may be worth choosing a hobby that gives your life more balance. If you spend your days in an office in silence, then it may pay to engage in something fairly social. Or if you desperately need quiet me-time, then go for it. The point is your hobby should be fun and certainly not add to your stress. Let your hobby work for you.

3 Living in the moment

How often are any of us actually in the moment? So many of us worry about the things that we have to get done in a day. We’re doing one thing, while thinking about what we have to do next. Or we spend our time living for the weekend or a vacation, taking no notice of the present. Then there’s those people who ruminate over the past – so tied up with thoughts and worries about things that have happened, they are barely aware of their current situation. Having a hobby that you set aside time for can allow you to be worry free and just focus on the here and now. Allow yourself to be immersed in the activity will do wonders for your wellbeing. The next tip will help you do just that.

4 Good opportunity for a flow experience

A flow experience is one of those moments when you are so immersed in an activity that everything else is forgotten. Have you ever been so focused on something that you don’t even notice how hungry you are until you have finished the task? It is likely you were experiencing flow. Experiencing flow can do wonders to your happiness as you are attending to something that is giving you value and offers a great feeling of achievement.

To increase your chances of flow whilst engaging in a hobby, it is worth choosing a hobby that meets the following conditions for flow. Firstly you should have a goal. It directs your attention as appropriate. What do you hope to achieve with your choice of hobby? Goals can be ongoing, short term and long term. Secondly you should have a good balance between your perceived skills and perceived challenges. Don’t take up a hobby that is so beyond your skill set you get frustrated. Saying that, you want it to engage you so you don’t become bored. If you find yourself doing the same thing over and over, what can you do to increase the challenge? Finally, it is important to obtain feedback. How are you doing with your hobby? You can ask yourself this question or gauge the opinion of another who you trust to be fair.

5 Being active in life

Using your leisure time well by having a hobby means you are being active in your life and engaged. You are not letting life pass you by. Passive activities like watching TV are not hobbies and do little for your wellbeing. Another problematic activity is spectator sport. Just watching a sport does little for your happiness and you are not actively involved (no matter how much you think you are as you shout at the opposing team or the ref). However, if you do enjoy a particular sport, there are ways to become actively involved with it – perhaps by playing or teaching the sport, or being involved with supporters clubs.

6 Get to make friends

Having an interest is a great opportunity to get to know other people. Whatever your hobby is, you will find plenty of other people doing the same. This can be especially useful as a beginner where you are keen to learn everything about your new hobby from those more experienced. Of course, some hobbies and interests would require that you get to know other people. Perhaps you decide it’s time to dust off your football boots and join a team. You love football – and being in a team means you immediately get to know many other people with a shared interest. Friendships are important and there is research that shows having social support can help you live longer.

Remember also, the internet can be a great source of support and it is not uncommon for people to make friends this way. As you get started on your hobby, take a look at related blogs, forums and Facebook pages.

7 Something just for you

Even if you get just a few hours a week to get stuck into your hobby – this is your time. You do not have to worry about work, family, friends, anyone. We all have so many obligations and responsibilities. There is nothing wrong with having me-time. It is essential to manage stress. If you believe you do not have time for a hobby then you need to do a quick assessment of your life. It’s all about balance. Hopefully by now you are convinced of the value of having a hobby.

8 Feeling of achievement

With a hobby you can set goals – both long term and short term. This will give you an ongoing sense of achievement that you have total control over. It feels good to achieve things. You feel you have made good use of your time. You may even like to keep a journal or even a blog that records your achievements for you to look back over. It’s amazing how quickly things can build up – even if you only commit a small amount of time each week to your hobby.

Remember though, whatever hobby you do – it’s for you so should be something you enjoy or think you might enjoy. Don’t be afraid to try new things or expand your existing skills. And have fun!

Actors and Anxiety – Get Help For Your Stage Fright

Even if you are an experienced actor or other performer, you may still experience stage fright or insecurity. But there are effective ways to deal with anxiety so you can work with more power and creative satisfaction.

The list of people who experience stage fright includes Kim Basinger; Barbra Streisand; Alanis Morissette; Aretha Franklin; Nicolas Cage; Naomi Judd; Carly Simon, and Edie Falco, among many others.

Some kind of distorted thinking such as perfectionism often sets off the fear.

Cherry Jones earned a Tony nomination for her acting in a play, but said she was “nearly paralyzed by a profound case of stage fright” from trying to live up to the “greatest performance” she had ever seen in the role, that of Colleen Dewhurst.

That sort of perfectionism can drive anxiety and insecurity. Trying to be “perfect” can be energizing and inspiring up to a point, but too much concern can lead to a drop in performance.

Tal Ben-Shahar, Ph.D., describes in his new book “The Pursuit of Perfect” the interaction between arousal and peak performance, a concept developed by sports psychologists.

Dr. Shahar notes that top performers in every area may be disappointed when they fall short of their high expectations, but they do not get paralyzed by fear of possible failure. And when they do fail, as everyone does sometimes, they accept it; they don’t catastrophize failure, as in “I screwed up that line, so they’re going to fire me.”

Being highly talented and accomplished does not prevent feeling anxiety and insecurity.

Nicole Kidman has admitted, “Every time I star in a film, I think I cannot act. I’ve tried to pull out of almost every one I’ve done because of sheer terror.”

Her ongoing stage fright is related to impostor or fraud feelings, which many gifted adults experience.

Actor Alison Lohman has talked about the energizing aspect of mild anxiety. She said, “You never get over being scared and overwhelmed, because it’s a new character and that brings on a whole new set of circumstances. That’s the exciting part of it – it’s those nerves that bring you to a higher level and makes you more hyper-aware. It makes your performance better.”

Dealing with too much anxiety

There are many strategies to help you overcome anxiety or stage fright if it interferes with performance. There is no “magic pill” that will work for everyone, but here are a few approaches that may work for you.

Beyonce Knowles has said, “I get so terrified before I go on stage. My secret is no eye contact. I find that if I don’t look directly at people and just concentrate completely on the singing and dance moves then I can get through.”

That may be helpful, but it is more of a “Band-Aid” than a real solution.

Energy psychiatrist Judith Orloff, M.D. works with many actors and says she sometimes prescribes a beta blocker such as Inderal, a medication to reduce the fight or flight sensations like muscle tension and increased heart rate.

But in her new book “Emotional Freedom” she details what she says is a better way than drugs – a three minute mini-meditation that includes learning how to breathe, center and let thoughts flow by.

It may be very helpful to examine what you are thinking just before you get the feelings of stage fright, and then evaluate how accurate or realistic your thoughts are.

Deanne Repich, founder of the National Institute of Anxiety and Stress, notes that when stage fright kicks in, analytical thinking is suppressed.

Non Addictive Sleep Aid – Natural Insomnia Remedy to Help You Sleep Great at Night

What are the best non addictive sleep aids that can help you fall sleep and rest easy? It seems that every variation of over the counter and prescription sleep aids contain heavy sedatives that can be habit forming. These sedatives are also what will cause you to wake up feeling almost like you had been drinking all night. Not satisfied, and not productive. Does a safe, natural insomnia remedy really exist?

So what are the alternatives? Are there any safe, non addictive sleep aids on the market today? The answer, quite simply, is "absolutely." Let me explain.

Too facilitate sleep, your body produces a hormone called melatonin. When this melatonin is secreted, it causes drowsiness and encourages sleep. Many people who suffer from insomnia or other sleep problems are not producing enough melatonin to get their body to shut down. There are many reasons for this condition. The more common reasons are artificial light (such as a television), stress and anxiety, and even high blood pressure.

There is a solution. There have been many wonderful breakthroughs regarding melatonin production, and you can now find natural melatonin supplements available in capsule form. These pills are by far the safest and most natural remedies for sleeplessness available. And because they are all natural, there are no addictive substances involved.

Taking these before bedtime will increase melatonin production and add other herbs that promote relaxation and stress relief. This all leads to a restful night, and you will wake up without having that feeling of a hangover as well. This natural remedy for insomnia is truly a great option for anyone suffering from sleepless nights.

Women are Braver Than Men

Women are, in fact, a great deal braver than men. A particularly infuriating male friend recently remarked that women needed men to lean upon, needing the support of the stronger sex in difficulties and so on and so forth, until I was ready to scream. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Women have a much stronger constitution in so many instances; being able to survive far more physical pain (do we dare quote childbirth for the how many thousandth time? Have you guys ever tried pulling your top lip over your head?).

In my opinion they are also able to tolerate far greater emotional trauma than any of their male counterparts. Divorce, bereavement, bankruptcy and redundancy are all high on the list of things women agree with far better than men. Not to mention road rage.

I was hospitalized once for a minor operation. In the recovery stage I was able to walk to the end of the ward and socialize in the patient's dayroom with some of the other inmates of the opposition ward. There were women there who had undergone hysterectomies only the day before but bravely staggering around the corridors, pulling a drip stand along behind them, every step an agony. Sitting on the sofa were two men, both of which got up to offer the ladies a seat, comparing dresses on their respective ingrown toenails and complaining about the agonies they had gone through.

There was no comparison to be made between the suffering of the ladies who had undergone what was then major surgery, and the slight discomfort these two men had to put up with. I resistent the urge to trip over their ingrown toenails on the way to the corridor.

Women have colds; men have only flu. Women have indigestion; men have food poisoning. Women sneak out of their beds at night to feed the baby for the fourth time that evening, careful to tiptoe around snoring hubby, who in my opinion describes a good kick to send him flying onto the floor the other side of the bed and then to be drop kicked into the nursery to tend to HIS child and to make a practical contribution to HIS child's upbringing as much as the mother.

Women invariably are detailed to clean up nasty spills in the home, such as baby poo – baby vomit, dog poo, cat poo (even worse – yuk) and various other types of animal excreta which do not bear thinking about, while the brave man of the family quietly heaves in a corner and informs everyone 'sorry, I do not do dog poo, it makes me feel sick.' So what, chum – it's your dog / cat / baby / budgie / hamster – you fix it!

The comparators are interesting to make but unfortunately only half the population is brave enough to read the analysis!

Breast Cancer: Knowing The Causes and Risk Factors

The breast is one of the vital organs of the body located on the frontiers of the pectoral muscles that shields the rib cage of the body. It is made up of lobule that supplies the milk ducts with milk that finally settle at the nipple. Its chief responsibility is to breastfeed newly born babies aside other quintessential roles it plays in the entire body. It is now a common phenomenon to hear that the breasts of the majority of women and some handful of men have developed cancers.

It is estimated that 16% of all cancers in females is attributed to breast cancer as well as 18.2% of all cancer deaths globally. The precise cause is unknown, while some recent research studies are unclear about the causes, though many researchers highly predict that the cause may issue from the multifarious relationship between the genetic structure and the environment of individuals. However, the formation of cancer in the breast is scientifically attributed to the development of a malignant tumour in either the lobules or milk ducts of the breasts. The lobular carcinoma which is cancer that develops in the lobules is not very popular in comparison to the much popular to cancer that develops in the milk ducts of the breasts called ductal carcinoma.

What then causes the formation of the tumour in the lobule or milk duct regions of the breast? This usually happens when the tumour suppressor genes of one’s DNA, which is responsible for regulating and slowing down the pace of cell division in the body becomes weak and malfunctions. This usually incites the DNA genes of a person to mutate at relatively faster rates, creating the oncogenes that cause breast cells to develop abnormally leading to their spontaneous divisions. The clusters of cells that metastasize, thus, moves speedily to the lymph nodes, then gather together forming the lumps, masses or tumours that are likely to cause breast cancer.

This situation is more evident in females who have a strong family history of breast cancer. Two main genes called BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 that are malfunctioned tumour suppressor genes causes the familial breast cancer and it is apparent in one out of two hundred women. It is estimated that 5% to 10% of all breast cancers are as a result of familial breast cancer history. Studies have revealed that women who have very close relatives, such as mothers, sisters or daughters suffering from breast cancer are two or three times more likely to develop breast cancers. However, it must be reckoned that this family record, is not a panacea for developing the disease since studies have revealed that some women with this family record never developed cancers throughout their lives. It is equally intriguing to know of females who have developed cancers but never had any familial breast cancer history. Probably, this has increased the blurring situation of researchers who are in search of its exact causes.

Yet, females with a high risk of the disease as a result of DNA gene mutations inherited from a family genealogy of breast cancer victims can be helped to mitigate the likelihood of its formation. First, having a blood test carried out would unearth the kind of genetic mutation or BRCA in the family breast cancer history. Consulting the services of a genetic counsellor is also worthwhile because s/he can provide substantial information on the type of genetic testing to carry out as well as its associated benefits, limitations and risks. In addition, there is some time-tested medicine such as anastrozole and tamoxifen 21 which when taken for a period of five years have been proven to either reduce or prevent potential familial breast cancer.

Aside from the hereditary factors, there are many other instances that may slightly or highly increase the risk factors and the likelihood of breast cancer contraction. It is said that women over fifty years are more likely to develop the disease. Also, women with a personal record of breast cancer may possibly develop additional cancers in the affected breast or the other breast if self-precautionary measures are not taken.

Women with either oestrogen or progesterone hormone are more susceptible to develop breast cancers. This is owing to the fact that those hormones instruct the breast cells, as it were, to divide and multiply spontaneously making them cancerous in the breast region. As such, there is a recent alertness of some personal care products such as shampoos, deodorants, cosmetics, gels for shaving and other kinds that are produced with the addition of paraben chemicals which have oestrogen properties that can slightly increase the risk factor associated with the development of cancer. As a result, such products must be inspected for such ingredients in their makeup before they are purchased and used.

Another risk factor is related to the menstrual cyclical pattern of the woman. It is an evidence-proven fact that women who had their menstruation before the age of twelve, as well as those whose menstruation ceases known as menopause after the age of fifty-five as well as those who procreate after the age of thirty, are all likely to develop the disease. Obese women and women who take in diets with high fats are more susceptible to develop it. Studies have revealed that women who slash down the calories of fats in their diets to a range of 20% to 30% are more resilient to the formation of the disease.

In addition, high daily alcohol intake, smoking tobacco and short or intercepted periods of sleep increase the risk factor in the development of the disease. These practices reduce the melatonin level that monitors and regulates the creation and constant reproduction of cells, thus exposing the culprit to the likelihood of breast cancer.

Also, sterile women, as well as women who have had a post-menopausal therapy and have taken medications with oestrogen and progesterone, are also susceptible to develop the disease.

Knowing the risk factors, there is the need to maintain attitude or practices that are likely to reduce the risk factors that may potentially cause breast cancer. Heeding promptly to the advice of your health physician regarding one’s peculiar breast cancer case would immeasurably aid in preventing cancer. This would largely improve the health status as well as increase the life expectancy rate in especially women who contribute largely to the socio-economic development of the numerous nations around the globe.
