The problem with things like that is that they take a long time. Effective Allergy Relief

Your nose is running, your eyes are itchy and watery and you just want to crawl out of your skin. What you would not do for effective allergy relief.

There are many different types of allergies and just as many different types of allergy relief products some more effective than others. You've probably tried a few over the years and probably had mixed results.

The big problem is not only finding effective allergy relief but also not going broke in the process. It's not unusual to get soaked a $ 20 bill for maybe a dozen antihistamine time release pills. That's expensive.!

You might be surprised to discover that your allergies are because you are actually suffering from food allergies with gluten sensitivity being the most common. We understand if you find it hard to make the leap from grains to allergies but natural medicine has scientifically documented and clinically proven that gluten sensitivity is responsible for many problems other than allergies – IBS, Fibromyalgia, Child hood ear infections which are so commonly treated with antibiotics and tubes, sinusitis, migraines, Celiac disease, arthritis, and asthma.

Another undering reason for allergies is an immune system that is misfiring and you might be surprised to discover that the number one reason that your immune system is not up to par is toxicity in the body. A good detoxification program and a good immune boosting program and you might be surprised to see your allergies disappear.

According to NIAID one in ten Americans sufferers from hay fever and is search of effective allergy relief. The numbers are climbing and the seriousness of the allergies are also climbing. In fact more and more children are being faced with life threatening allergies such as the peanut allergy that is plaguing the country. In fact according to JACI and AAAAI in just five years from 1997 to 2002 it has doubled.

Stop and think back 20 years, heck 10 years what do you recall about peanut allergies? Did not hear about them much did you? Ever wondered why? Is it because we are using peanuts in everything which is over stimulating the body's reaction? Is it because our bodies have become so toxic? It's not just peanuts but the effective allergy relief for peanuts is generally an EPI Pen after all this is a serious allergy.

These days all of seem to suffer from some type of allergy that we are seeking effective allergy relief for. It seems everything causes allergies these days and I do mean everything – trees, weeds, grasses, pollens, dust, pets, dander, dust mites, foods, gluten, chemicals found in cleaning products, bleach, and well the list could go on and on.

So instead of looking for an effective allergy relief you might want to delve a little deeper and try to figure out what's changed so much in such a short period of time. Let's see the trees, grasses, even the dust mites are probably the same as they were a decade ago but what has changed a lot is our exposure to toxins and when our body itself needs to be detoxified we can begin to develop allergies to just about anything.

So besides looking for a temporary effective allergy relief maybe the time has come to dig deer and find out just what is going on.

Natural Cures for Depression Explained

In this short article I want to cover three questions that may be in your mind when you think about natural cures for depression:

1. Why is a natural cure a good choice?

2. What different cures are there?

3. Will they help you or not?

Are you depressed and looking for a cure? These days doctors automatically subscribe medication which may or may not work for you. Counseling may also help but again it may only be a short term solution as the problem causing the depression needs a cure not just talking about or dealing with. If counseling takes this into accont and aims to get at the central problems and causes fine but this is after a kind of natural cure in itself.

Medication carries with it lots of side effects but natural cures for depression do not.

What different kinds of natural cures are there available?

Food. Bananas, soy foods, turkey, low-fat dairy foods can help improve your mood by lifting the levels of seratonin in your brain. Omega 3 foods such as tuna and other fish, purslane, nuts and oils can reduce tiredness and stress. The fewer refined foods you eat the better, natural foods are healthy and will help lift your depression.

Herbs like St. John's Wort work wonders and can in a matter of days give you a natural lift. It's definitely worked for me!

Exercise is hugely effective and actually makes you happy. Fight the urge to be lazy and demotivated and push yourself to exercise.

Supplements. You can take B vitamins, Omega 3 oils and other substances to help.

Depression is a disorder that one way or another lives in your brain so it stands to reason that anything you can do to help your brain work better will help. How do you help your brain? Food we've already talked about but there's also the matter of resting the brain and protecting it from stress. Stress really comes from the brain's reaction to what is happening to you. It is related to your thinking. So relaxing your thinking and slowing down your thoughts can have a great benefit.

Meditation is fantastic. It relaxes you and takes you away from unlenting negative thoughts and refreshes you.

Yoga can help combat stress and make you feel physically alive and well.

Sunshine gives you vitamin D and unleashes a peaceful, happy mood within you.

These are not the only natural cures for depression but are the ones that are most well-known because they actually work.

Postpartum Depression – Postpartum Psychosis

This is a major depression occurring shortly before or more likely within four weeks after a pregnancy. The incidence is approximately 10% of pregnancies. Postpartum depression may last up to a year (20%) left untreated.

This is not to be confused with “the baby blues” which peak at 2 to 5 days after delivery consisting of weeping, sadness, mood changes, irritability and anxiety. They do not interfere with care of the newborn and resolve spontaneously by two weeks.

Regarding the diagnosis of major depression at least five of the following symptoms occurring for more than two weeks make the diagnosis: sadness, hopelessness, loss of self-esteem, guilt, insomnia, over or under eating, inability it concentrate, loss of pleasure from hobbies, avoidance of social intercourse, low energy, anxiety, fearing the coming day and suicidal ideation.

A stand-alone diagnosis not related to postpartum depression is postpartum psychosis. Like other types of schizophrenia this diagnosis includes hallucination, delusions, bizarre behavior and disorganized speech. Although this psychosis is considered a variant of bipolar disorder most feel it is a severe manic state that has led to psychosis also called schizoaffective disorder. The incidence is 1 to 2 cases per 1000 births. It requires hospitalization because of the chance of suicide and infanticide.

It is felt that the greatest risk factor for postpartum depression is having a prior history major depression. There is a seven-fold higher chance of postpartum depression if antenatal depression is not treated. I find the terms used in the discussion of postpartum depression confusing. Does prenatal depression mean that the women have had a history of major depression in the past i.e. unrelated to any pregnancies. I interpret the statistic on antenatal depression means a history of occurring during a pregnancy. The confusion is the interchangeable use of the terms perinatal, postnatal, antiinatal and postpartum.

I think this is important because the drugs of choice for postpartum depression are SSRIs such as Zoloft or Celexa have been passed the proof of time as safe for the fetus. The newer agents have not. Also, SSRIs are safe for breast feeding as only 10% get into breast milk. As for major depression during early or midway in pregnancy SSRIs are okay but in severe cases the newer agents such as atypical anit-psychotics are not. Some feel that in these cases ECT is preferred.

Children of parents with post partum depression have higher rates of emotional problems, behavioral problems, defiance disorder and hyperactivity.

The other risk factors are social, lack of a support person or group, marital difficulties, current or history of violence or abuse, major life events, decreased income, unintended or unwanted pregnancy.

The major cause of this form of depression is felt to be hormonal. Sudden drop in estrogen and progesterone after pregnancy being the most likely. Low thyroid, testosterone and cortisol are also felt to play a role. A thyroid level and a thyroid stimulating hormone should be measured to rule out Hashimoto’s thyroiditis which is correlated with depression.

Much confusion still remains when describing whether cases of postpartum depression which in most cases develop about two to four weeks AFTER giving birth are associated with a past history of a diagnosis of major depression unrelated to pregnancy. I was asked to see an 18 year old young lady by an obstetrician who developed typical symptoms of postpartum depression during her second pregnancy that began one month after delivery. Her child was then three months old and she was referred to me as I was dealing with high risk pregnancies at the time as a nephrologist. In her first pregnancy she had developed major depression which resolved spontaneously. Is the episode during the first pregnancy a prenatal depression or unrelated major depression episode. I would tend to agree with the latter. I would consider that depression a preexisting episode whether during that pregnancy or at any time prior to this pregnancy. It would not be the same as when it is said that a prior history of major depression disorder predisposes to postpartum depression. It does not treat the treatment as both episodes in the second and the one. The distinction affects the statistics of incidence of postpartum depression and the statistic that women with a prior history of postpartum depression have a seven-fold higher chance of postpartum depression in subsequent pregnancies and that 10% of all pregnancies develop postpartum depression.

During a conference with the Ob-Gyn department they stated that in the first pregnancy she had developed postpartum depression AGAIN in the first pregnancy. I had to disagree and got a lot of flak for it.

Proper Nail Care

  1. Do not subject your hands and nails to extremely hot water, harsh chemicals, and strong household cleaners. Do wear gloves.
  1. Do apply hand lotion regularly to keep the hands moisturized and aid nails that crack or chip. If nails are soft and tend to tear, avoid putting lotion on the nails themselves.
  1. Do use a cuticle cream daily or massage a dab of olive oil into the cuticles.
  1. Do not file or buff the nails excessively. This can think and weaker nails.
  1. Do be alert to allergic reactions from formaldehyde in nail polish or acrylics in sculptured nails, tips, and nail glues. The reaction may show up as a rash or itchiness on places touched by the nails, like the eyelids, cheeks, or neck – rather than on the less sensitive skin of the hands.

Manicure Basics:

A home manicure, once you learn the basics, can be an easy weekly routine to improve the appearance of your nails and hands.

  1. File each nail with an emery board from the sides in tow the center. File in one direction only, do not "see" back and forth.
  1. Soak fingertips in warm soapy water to soften cuticles.
  1. Apply cuticle remover and gently push back the cuticle with the blunt end of an orangewood stick.
  1. Trim any hangnails with a small nail scissors. Do not otherwise cut the cuticle, as it is the protective barrier for the growth center of the nail.
  1. Scrub nails in soapy water and clean under the nails with an orangewood stick wrapped in cotton.

Polish Tips:

Polishing the nails creates a finished look, but your nails will be unhealthy if you let them go at least one day a week without polish. Here are some tips for a professional looking polish job:

  1. Wipe nails with polish remover after the manicure to remove any residue of soap or lotion.
  1. Do not polish the underside of the nail. When it's time to remove the polish, chemicals in the polish remover can live the nail away from the nail bed, providing a chance for infection to develop.
  1. Apply a base coat and two to three thin coats of polish, rather than one thick one, for better coverage. An additional clear top coat protects against chipping.
  1. Tidy up polish that's strayed onto the fingers with the following tool: a moistened toothpick wrapped in a bit of cotton puff and fitted in nail polish remover.
  1. If you have to dry polish quickly, try dipping fingers carefully in a bowl of ice water.
  1. Polish nails away from direct sunlight, which may cause bubbles in the finish.

Causes and Cures For Ovarian Cysts – How to Stop the Suffering and Regain Your Lost Freedom

You may already know this but sometimes it is useful to do a quick recap. Ovarian cysts develop on one or both of your ovaries and are usually sacs filled with waty fluid. They are similar to blisters and in fact their size can range from a tiny lump to a cyst that can reach the size of a mango.

Amongst all the different varieties of ovarian cysts, the most common one is the functional cysts. Most of them are benign and usually require no further medical intervention and treatment.

So, do we really know what causes ovarian cysts? Well, in short yes know that ovaries grow an egg each month and when the ovulation begins, a lump will start to form inside the ovary. As soon as the pocket or as it is called the "follicle" breaks, then the egg is released. When pregnancy does not occur during the ovulation period, the normal course of action is for the empty follicle to disappear on its own.

It is during this very delicate process that most ovarian cysts begin to develop and grow.

As explained previously, the most common of all cysts is the functional one. Women can also develop some slightly more complex ones such as the dermoid, endometrioma or cystadenoma cyst.

The usual symptoms that you experience as soon as the cyst begins its growth are pain in the lower abdomen as well as some bloating and the need to urinate frequently.

Of course, the pain is totally dependent on the actual size of the lump. Some women have experienced no symptoms whatsoever while others have reported having had extremely painful periods or even painful sexual interference. Some bleeding can also occur at times and mainly outside of the normal periods. If you are experiencing such symptoms, then by all means you need to visit your doctor to make sure that it is the correct diagnosis.

Those who have already been told that they are suffering from ovarian cysts have probably been given two options; either surgery or hormonal therapy. To be very blunt, these treatments are only covering up the symptoms and would not prevent further lumps to develop at a later stage. These treatments work short-term but will not be able to get rid of the condition for good. So, this is the reason why many women are now turning to a more natural and holistic form of treatment for which the results have been astounding.
A step-by-step guide can show you exactly how by working with your body and your biological system you can very simply start shrinking your cysts in a matter of weeks. A combination of gentle exercises, dietary advice and herbal remedies can help you treat the causes of your ovarian cysts and make sure that they do not come back later.

LDL, HDL Cholesterol – Which is Good and Which is Bad?

When your doctor spouts off your cholesterol levels in terms of LDL and HDL, does your brain shut off? You know in the back of your mind that one is good and one is bad, but which is which? And why is one better that the other? In order to understand the difference between LDL and HDL cholesterol, you need a basic understanding of how cholesterol works with and affects your body chemistry.

First, cholesterol in itself – whether LDL or HDL cholesterol – is not a bad thing. Although cholesterol is most well known for the role it plays in contributing to heart disease, it is actually a substance needed by and naturally produced by the body. For instance, cholesterol is responsible for building cell membranes and for maintaining the fluidity of these membranes. Cholesterol also plays an important part in helping to metabolize fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, and K. Scientists also say cholesterol helps in the production of bile, which, in turn, helps to digest fat. Although we hear so much about how bad high cholesterol is for us, we need to keep in mind cholesterol is a needed component of the body.

Now, let’s clear up the question of which type of cholesterol is good and which is bad. What your doctor refers to as “good” cholesterol is the HDL, or high-density lipoprotein, cholesterol. Actually the term good cholesterol is slightly misleading since there are actually not two forms of cholesterol. It is actually the carrier that is good or bad. In the case of HDL cholesterol, it is carried by a high-density lipoprotein. Some experts believe this type of cholesterol is better for you because the HDL carrier takes cholesterol away from the heart to the liver where it is broken down and passed out of the body. Low-density lipoproteins, on the other hand, actually deposit cholesterol onto the walls of the arteries, thus increasing your risk for heart disease and heart attack.

Generally, your doctor will want your HDL cholesterol levels to stay above 40 mg/dl. Anything less than that puts you at greater risk for heart disease. Your LDL cholesterol, on the other hand, should stay below 100 mg/dl to be considered optimal. Higher levels of LDL cholesterol put you at a greater risk for heart disease or heart attack. This is especially so if you also have two or more other risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Despite common knowledge, there is no “good” or “bad” cholesterol, there is just cholesterol. The carrier of the cholesterol – whether LDL or HDL – is what determines if the cholesterol is harmful to your heart or not. HDL cholesterol is taken away from the heart and therefore is considered “good.” LDL cholesterol, on the other hand, is the kind the builds up in your arteries and makes you more likely to develop heart disease. Next time your doctor discusses your good and bad cholesterol levels with you, you will know what he is talking about.

How to Beat Panic Attacks During Sleep

The feeling creeps up on you from nowhere, one minute you are sound sleep and all of the sudden, boom! A panic attack hits you like a ton of bricks and the fact you are still practically sleeping it is more terrifying than ever and seemingly uncontrollable.

Some things that you can do to calm yourself down during a panic attack is controlling your breathing. Getting a grip on your breathing can play a big part stopping your panic attack quickly. Try and take some deep breaths while focusing on stopping your panic attack. Believe it or not your mental ability to control what is going on with your body regardless of what the problem is your most powerful tool.

With concentration solely on calming down and using deep breaths it should play a big part in getting back to normal quickly.

Another way of stopping your panic attacks from even occurring is changing your lifestyle. These attacks usually occur due to stress in your life and by minimizing the stress you minimize the chance of your attacks from happening. Other changes can be as simple as cutting down coffee, soda or other drinks filled with caffeine and try and get the right amount of sleep every night. While you are sleeping your body is trying to recover from the day, so without the right amount of sleep, which is about 8 hours or so, it will add to your stress level and the fatigue of your body which results in more attacks.

Life Line of Business Growth Made Healthier

Infrastructure and the growth of business go hand in hand. Sound infrastructure catalyses growth while lack of infrastructure blocks its road. The disparity in the availability of adequate infrastructure is quite high in India. While states like Punjab, Haryana, Gujurat and Andhra Pradesh are appealing rich dividends due to high class infrastructure, states like Orissa, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh are at the bottom of the ladder for the reverse reason.

Infrastructure development is not the sole responsibility of the central or sate Government. Take the example of Punjab- You will conclude that the tremendous development in the infrastructure sector is due to the high level of public private participation. This model should be followed everywhere in India. To make the infrastructure growth significant, Government, public sector banks and private commercial banks should take progressive steps.

It is a fact that delay is a part and parcel of the process of completion of any infrastructure. So, the lending institutions are hesitant to offer business loans for infrastructure development. However Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently taken a positive step in this regard. It has relaxed the norm that classified an infrastructure project as a sub-standard asset by banks. Now, RBI has issued guide lines to start recovery on business loans for infrastructure development purpose after two years from the date of completion. Earlier, the exemption time limit was one year. Now, according to the new guide lines, if the industrial projects financed by public or private sector banks are delayed beyond six months from the targeted date of production, the lending institution has to classify them as a sub-standard asset.

The initiative of recognizing infrastructure projects as sub-standard started in 2007. Now, RBI has further relaxed this norm to six months. As the terms of declaration are made liberal, the repayment of business loans for infrastructure development has become more easier. In its approach towards the recovery of this type of business loan, RBI has been gracious and has accepted the fact that infrastructure projects are prior to delays which are beyond the control of the borrower. So, there is no point in penalizing the borrower for the delay. The neworms will help the infrastructure companies borrow from commercial banks more easily and will directly fuel the infrastructure growth.

How the borrower will be befitted?

Take the example of a road project. The developer borrows from the commercial banks for this reason. He hopes to start collecting toll as soon as the project is completed. But for some unavoidable reasons, the project is delayed. The delay puts the borrower in a helpless condition, and to repay the loan amount, there is no cash flow. In such circumstances, the relaxed term for sub-standard asset declaration comes to rescue. In case of delays in infrastructure projects, the investment of the bank is not classified as NPA.

Things to Know About Brain Tumors

It must be kept in mind that although headache is a presenting symptom of certain brain tumors, it is a fairly late feature of the disease. It may not be present in many of the early cases of brain tumor. The brain brain tumor should be diagnosed long before the headache appears, keeping in view the various symptoms with which a brain tumor presents initially, and for which the sufferer is expected to consult his physician for the early diagnosis or exclusion of a brain tumor. An urgent computed tomographic (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is usually required for a precise diagnosis. However, severe recurrent heads with or without vomiting, increasing by coughing / stooping, is an important warning signal of brain tumor. It may also be noted that vomiting as well as papilloedema (which the neurologist / ophthalmologist confirms after examining the fundi with the help of ophthalmoscope) are late manifestations of brain tumor. Beside headache, some of the other presenting symptoms of the brain tumor which must be kept in mind by the masses are given below:

(i) Epileptic attacks

If the epileptic attacks occur after the adult age and / or are not controlled or increase in frequency even with the administration of antiepileptic drugs, the possibility of a brain tumor must be suspected.

(ii) Neurological deficiencies

Various neurological deficits like visual-field defects, or impaired vision in one or both eyes, squint, diplopia (double vision); tinnitus (ringing in ears) particularly in one of the ears, unilateral deafness; loss of smell (anosmia), especially on one side; difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia), nasal regurgitation; weakness in one of the limbs or of the limbs of the same side; difficulty in speech, including reading and writing; unsteadiness in legs while walking, or in hands while doing some work; tremors, stiffness or involuntary movements, etc., should be kept in mind.

(iii) Unexplained psychological symptoms:

Like depression, loss of memory, sudden change in personality / behavior, etc. are also important to bear in mind.
