How to Cure Newborn Constipation

Newborn babies' most commonly encountered diseases are usually associated with constipation, where they have infrequent or difficult bowel removal. This malfunction can be traced back to either a lack of water in their diet or poor coordination between the nerves and muscles of the colon and bowel. The normal frequency of fecal removal among infants is on a daily basis.

When food is digested, it travels down the intestines that absorb water and nutrients. The unabsorbed components of the food become feces. This is only possible though when there is sufficient water left in the unabsorbed materials. In order for the fecal matter to move out of the rectum, the muscles in the lower intestines and rectum must be capable of making appropriate contraction and relaxation. Another identified culprit of constipation among infants is the switch from breast milk to formula or vice versa. Milk incompatibility could also be another cause.

On Your Baby's Poop

Within twenty-four hours, infants have their first fecal removal after birth. The stools are usually thick and sticky, which progress to soft yellow in the first week of their lives. On an average basis, breastfed babies poop eight to ten times up to their first week. Month-old babies who are breastfed have the normal habit of removing their bowels to four times a day. Those who are formula-fed of this age poop less compared to their breastfed counterparts. Their stool is usually tan or yellow and much harder. At two months old, babies remove their stools once or twice in a day.

The Danger of Constipation Among Babies

Infants who do not remove their bowels within the span of forty-eight hours from their birth must be immediately subjected to more thorough medical evaluation because it could mean a more serious malfunction such as:

"Hypothyroidism, a hormonal imbalance
"Meconium ileus
"Hirschsprung's disease

Newborn Constipation Cures

Available remedies that parents can do for their infants are simple, but a doctor's advice must be bought. Some of these remedies are the following:

– Breastfeed infants because the most digestible food for them is breastmilk.
– Feed the babies with water by using an eye dropper, or when they are already capable of suckling a bottle, provide them a bottle of water a day.
– Dilute 1/16 tablespoon of magnesium in water and administrator the mixture to the infants by using a bottle.
– Gently massage the infants' abdomen using gentle little circular motions from left to right and up to down as often as ten times a day.
– A teaspoon a day of flax oil that may be mixed with breastmilk or water and fed using a bottle also helps prevent constipation.
– Administer an infant enema: Prepare lukewarm water. Place it into a bulb syringe. Use olive oil to ready the syringe and anus of the infant. Be sure that the bulb does not contain air bubbles. Insert the tip into the infant's anus at half an inch. Squeeze the lukewarm water in a very gentle manner. Repeat the procedure until the baby defecates. Consult with your pediatrician before doing an enema!

Pre-prepared Legal Documents – Why "Canned" Documents Can Get You Canned

Watching the commercials on late-night TV can be quite an education for the estate planning lawyer. It seems every channel has a commercial hawking pre-prepared, or “canned”, legal documents in order to “save you the costs of hiring a high-priced lawyer”: “Save thousands of dollars with our easy-to-fill-in (insert type of document: wills, trusts, powers of attorney, deeds, etc.)!” “They’re simple to use!” “Avoid paying premium prices for something you can do at home!” There are always people smiling, and “testimonials” by “customers” who claim the forms came with step-by-step instructions and were so easy to use.

To think that the planning, creation and execution of the most important documents in any individual’s life could be so simple!

If only it were so.

This is a classic case of, “if it sounds too good to be true, it’s usually because it is.” American capitalism is a wonderful thing — and as a small businessperson I certainly appreciate the freedom Americans have to make a living — but it is not so wonderful if it harms the consumer who spends his or her hard-earned money on computer programs or form documents that ultimately will not do the job.

I have had several clients come to me with pre-prepared documents that were either completely invalid, didn’t do what they were supposed to do, or required a lot of legal work afterward to fix the mess they got the client in. Some were wills, others were trusts, some were corporation papers and still others were contracts.   In each case the client wound up paying more — sometimes far more — for me to clean up the mess.

Lawyers don’t spend four years in college and another three years in law school to be able to fill in canned forms from an online website or office supply store.   Most legal documents — especially those that people need for their everyday lives — require precision and formality in order to be legally valid. And they must carefully follow the laws of the state in which they will be used. Wills must contain very specific language and be executed with extreme precision in order to be recognized by the courts. One misstep and a will is invalid. This is particularly important because you can’t re-do a will after you’ve passed on. And that is not what you want for your heirs.

The same goes for deeds, which also must be executed properly or they are not valid. Imagine thinking you’ve transferred — or worse yet, received — a piece of property, only to find out the document isn’t worth the paper it’s written on?   Contracts are another type of document people feel they can write up themselves or used “canned” documents without knowing the requirements of the particular area of law, or that state’s law. I can’t tell you how many times one of my red-faced client’s previous penny-foolishness led to lengthy and expensive litigation.

Is it really worth saving anywhere from $750.00 to $1,500.00, depending on the type of document, to have legal documents that may not be valid? While it may be tempting to use pre-prepared legal documents in order to save a little, their use is a classic case of being “penny wise and dollar foolish”. I always say to my clients: “Pay me now or pay me later. If you pay me now it will cost you less than if you have to pay me later to clean up the mess.”

Only a member of the Bar in your state is authorized and competent to prepare these all-important life documents for you.  Seek out the proper counsel and be prepared to pay a reasonable price now for expert advice and draftsmanship in order to avoid a costly problem later.

Benefits and Uses of Neem, Tulsi, Wheat Grass and Amla on Skin Care

You might be surprised to know that skin is the largest organ in human body. It is a kind of sheath that separates us from the outer environment. It protects our internal organs from getting exposed to the harsh climatic condition pravelling outside. Any problem in skin or any kind of infection to the skin can causes threat to the internal organs. It helps in keeping our vital organ from hanging outside the body getting infected very easily. It also helps in maintaing body temperature. More importantly it helps us in perceiving sensation of touch.

According to modern sciences skin is made up of three layers. Named epidermis the outer layer, dermis the middle layer and subcutaneous fat the inner layer. Ayurveda believes that skin has six layers.

Epidermis is the outer most layer of the skin and is the part of the skin, which is visible with our normal eyes. This layer of skin keeps on producing new cells, as 30000 to 40000 cells are lost every minute. It contains a very important content name melalin that is a very talked about things now a days. Melalin imparts colour to our skin. More the melalin content darker is the complexion. Actually melanin is a protective device of your skin that helps you to protect from sunburns and very harmful ultraviolet rays or more commonly called UV rays. This is the reason tanning occurs in people who get exposed to sun. But melalin production is not enough to give all round protection to protect skin from dehydration and cancerous cell production. Important thing about epidermis is that it is composed of dead cells hence is non vascular i.e. it does not have blood supply and nervous supply.

Second is the dermis layer that lies below the epidermis. As it is beneath the epidermis hence dermis is not visible. Dermis serves very important function in the protective and perceptive role that skin plays. It serves many functions, as it possesses nerves ending, vascular supplies and glands (both oil or sebaceous glands and sweat glands). Due to presence of these factors we can perceive the touch sensation. Vascularity to the skin initiates in dermis and hence helps in providing proper nourishment to the skin cells. Dermis also contains sebaceous glands or more commonly called oil gland, which helps our skin in lubrication thus helping it from catching any infection. It makes our skin work as raincoats therefore help skin from getting sogged and swelled away in water. Sweat glands play a very important role in our life. Most important of all is that it helps in maintaing our body temperature; secondly it plays an excretory role by excreting out harmful toxins that might have formed in our body; thirdly it helps in protecting our body from microorganism as it possess antibacterial properties.

Third and the most important of all the layers is the subcutaneous fatty layer. Its role is to work as a shock absorber in he body and to maintain body heat from getting transferred to outside temperature. It also helps in holding internal organs tightly as it is present beneath the skin. This also contains a very peculiar feature that only mammals possess i.e. hair follicles. This layer is full of hair follicles out of which hair grows out. Nourishment of hairs depends upon the sebaceous glands, which opens into the hair follicle thus proving it with shine and nutrients.

Types of skins

It is really very essential to know the kind of skin you possess, as right care of skin can help in reducing any skin problems and avoid diseases.

There are mainly 5 types of skin: –

1. Normal skin: It not a commonest kind of skin. It is soft, smooth, velvety and evenly textured skin with no flaky dead cells and no pores visible. Proper distribution of oil and moisture is there that makes it a balanced skin i.e. not excessively dry and not excessively greasy. It is clear and free from blemishes

2. Dry skin: Skin is said to be dry, when skin is dull, patchy, reddened and flaky especially around eyes. Dry skin may cause formation of fine lines on cheeks, under eyes and corners of mouth. These conditions happen when oil or sebaceous glands are not supplying good nourishment and lubrication to the skin. If proper care is not given to the skin then it may lead to initiation of wrinkles in early age.

3. Oily or greasy skin: This kind of skin is thick, dull in colour and shiny in appearance. Due to over secretions of oils or sebum through oil gland, makes skin pores open and skin becomes sticky, which attracts dirt and dust from the environment. Due to this tendency, dirt and dust particles blocks the skin pores which are already widely open in oily skin leads to problems like black head, white head, acne and other skin related problems.

4. Combination skin: Commonly seen skin texture which is the combination of two kind of skin i.e. some of the skin area is dry and some of the area is oily. Usually it follows the pattern of “T” i.e. the greasy part is usually the portion which is vertical to nose crossing nose (nose, mouth and chin) and horizontal on fore head and hence referred to as “T-Zone”. The area left i.e. cheeks is comparatively dry.

5. Sensitive skin: This kind of skin is very sensitive to any change in environmental conditions or any kind allergies, which may be caused due to procedures like bleaching, makeup’s and other external applications.

How to know that what type of skin you possess

It is a very simple method to know that what kind of skin you possess by following procedure mentioned below.

If you find grease on the center panel then you possess combination skin. If there is no grease at all then you either have dry or normal skin.

Now to check weather your skin is dry or normal. Just do one thing, wash your face with non-greasy soap and water. If you are left with the feeling of stretchiness and tightness on skin then you possess dry skin otherwise you have normal skin. If in daily routine you easily get skin allergies, rashes, itches and boils then your skin supposed to be sensitive

Our skin faces mainly three kinds of troubles

1. Firstly disease caused directly to skin from external source.

This includes diseases that directly infect the skin from outside for example fungal infection in early stages etc

2. Secondly disease caused due to systemic disorders.

This is the second category of the disease, which is caused due to systemic infection in the body. For example leprosy, psoriasis

3. Thirdly it may represent mere symptom of another disease.

In this skin is the mere face that represents the symptom of any disease prevailing in the body. For example loosening of skin, which might be caused by dehydration.

How to make skin to happy so that it may remain healthy and glows with shine.

Top 10 Reasons to Be Ethical and Live With Integrity

Choosing to live ethically and with integrity isn’t for the faint of heart. It means making choices and dealing with consequences that choosing to lie might help you avoid, at least in the short-term. Here are the top 10 reasons why it’s worth the time and energy.

1. It’s a great way to keep life simple. Life is complicated enough already, and it certainly seems like the trend is towards exponential complications in our society. Living with integrity is one way to keep it simplified. You don’t have to remember who you told what, or pretend to be something you’re not, or to deal with consequences you’d rather avoid which…

2. Saves you time and energy. Fixing problems that can simply be avoided is an unfortunate waste of time and energy. If you’re up to accomplishing big stuff in the world, this side effect of living ethically and integrously is one that you are going to have to leverage in your favor.

3. It’s a small world after all. I live in bustling Miami, rubbing elbows on a regular basis with over six million people (between Dade and Broward Counties), and yet I am still constantly surprised at the ways I meet people again after not seeing them for years. As a trainer and a coach I’ve come to appreciate what a truly small world it is. Having always strived to treat people with honesty and to live with integrity it makes it a happy surprise to see them again. And because they’re happy to see me too, it preserves my reputation in the circles of my new endeavors and I’m constantly rediscovering new warm market opportunities.

4. It keeps you from burning your bridges. When you live this way, you’re not burning any bridges. It is a small world and you never know when you will find it useful to cross back across bridges you thought you were done with.

5. Life is a relationship game. Life is a team sport and the kind of team you have and the kinds of relationships you have with them is going to determine the boundaries of your success, and the level of integrity that you’re living out of is going to have a direct impact on the kind of relationship that it is.

Design it wisely.

6. Your relationship with yourself. Whether you consciously realize it not, being ethical and living life with integrity builds your self-esteem, your self-respect and your faith and trust in yourself.

One of the most powerful tools we have for high powered living is our word.

When we can count on ourselves to keep our word with ourselves it increases our confidence in our ability to achieve big goals, which is a wonderful way that…

7. It’s using the Laws of Attraction. The underlying premise of the laws of attraction is about accomplishing more with less effort. Who wouldn’t want more of that?

8. It makes you distinctive and special. If you’re one of those people that thinks or says “But everybody’s doing it!” – cutting corners, living in shades of grey, cheating on their taxes, whatever it is for you – then this one is especially for you.

I often hear people say that in order to stay competitive they have to adopt some of the same shady practices the competition is using.

If everybody’s doing it, doesn’t being the one who says “I won’t” really make you stand out from the crowd?

9. It makes you a role model. Whether you realize it or not, people are modeling their behavior after you. What kind of a role model do you want to be?

10. It helps to build a life worth living. Nobody has ever laid on their death bed and longed for the opportunity to go back and do it all over so they can lie to more people, steal more stuff, and to throw the people they love under the bus just one more time.

Nor has anyone ever gone to their funeral and wished the same for them.

Living with ethics and integrity is the fundamental platform for a life worth living.

I would never be the one to suggest that financial and personal success isn’t worth chasing, but a life of integrity lays the ground work not only for that kind of success, but also for the personal success that will probably be the only kind of success that will really matter in the end.

History and Evolution of the Electric Wheelchair

The electric wheelchair is the greatest contribution from Canada to the entire world. In 1950, Dr. George Johann Klein developed this wonderful creation to make a revolution in the medical field. It was very useful at the time of Second World War and it helped to save many lives. Now different types of wheelchairs are available in the market. But all of them are derived from the old wheelchair which was invented several decades ago.

Dr. Klein integrated the opinions of patients, doctors, electronic engineers and scientists, before making this useful invention. His efforts were supported by the National Research Council of Canada, Canadian Paraplegic Association and the state’s Department of Veteran Affairs.

Wheelchairs before electric wheelchairs were mainly designed for paraplegic persons. But Dr. Klein’s creation had so many more features than a normal wheelchair. This wheelchair not only works for paraplegic people but it can also be used by quadriplegics. Its invention was very near to World War 2 so it made a great contribution to the Red Cross, and helped thousands of injured people.

Users of electric wheelchairs do not bound within the limit of quadriplegics and paraplegics, many doctors have suggested it for patients with cardiovascular issues. One desirable feature of the wheelchair is that any one can customize it with their use. They can use it indoor and outdoors as well. Some of them can port easily.

The main functions of an electric wheelchair are to help in movement. Besides going forward and backwards, movements like stretching and titling can also be done. Its movement is controlled by joy sticks; chin controls or sip/puff controls. We can control the wheelchair’s direction, speed or other parameters by these joysticks.

These wheelchairs have some disadvantages too. Repairing an electric wheelchair consumes money and time. Another drawback is its price. It is not affordable for a common man. The price starts from $1000 to $3000 for an ordinary one and can cost around $10,000 for an advanced model.

Deep Breathing – Nourishment Of Nervous System

Deep breathing is important from the standpoint of both health and spiritual development. Deep breathing increases our vitality and promotes relaxation. Unfortunately, when we try to take a so-called deep breath, most of us do the exact opposite: we suck in our bellies and raise our shoulders. This is shallow breathing. We will now summarize the benefits of deep breathing. Deep breathing produces the following benefits:

1. Improvement in the quality of the blood due to its increased oxygenation in the lungs. This aids in the elimination of toxins from the system.

2. Increase in the digestion and assimilation of food. The digestive organs such as the stomach receive more oxygen, and hence operates more efficiently. The digestion is further enhanced by the fact that the food is oxygenated more.

3. Improvement in the health of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, nerve centres and nerves. This is due again to the increased oxygenation and hence nourishment of the nervous system. This improves the health of the whole body, since the nervous system communicates to all parts of the body.

5. Rejuvenation of the skin. The skin becomes smoother and a reduction of facial wrinkles occurs.

6. The movements of the diaphragm during the deep breathing exercise massage the abdominal organs the stomach, small intestine, liver and pancreas. The upper movement of the diaphragm also massages the heart. This stimulates the blood circulation in these organs.

7. The lungs become healthy and powerful, a good insurance against respiratory problems.

8. Deep slow, yoga breathing reduces the workload for the heart. The result is a more efficient, stronger heart that operates better and lasts longer. It also means reduced blood pressure and less heart disease. The yoga breathing exercises reduce the workload on the heart in two ways. Firstly, deep breathing leads to more efficient lungs, which means more oxygen, is brought into contact with blood sent to the lungs by the heart. So, the heart doesn’t have to work as hard to deliver oxygen to the tissues. Secondly, deep breathing leads to a greater pressure differential in the lungs, which leads to an increase in the circulation, thus resting the heart a little.

9. Deep, slow breathing assists in weight control. If you are overweight, the extra oxygen burns up the excess fat more efficiently. If you are underweight, the extra oxygen feeds the starving tissues and glands. In other words, yoga tends to produce the ideal weight for you.

10. Relaxation of the mind and body. Slow, deep, rhythmic breathing causes a reflex stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which results in a reduction in the heart rate and relaxation of the muscles. These two factors cause a reflex relaxation of the mind, since the mind and body are very interdependent. In addition, oxygenation of the brain tends to normalize brain function, reducing excessive anxiety levels.

SMART Board – Pros and Cons of Using a Digital, Interactive Whiteboard (In the Classroom)

We used a smart board to teach with in the computer lab at school. Essentially, a SMART board turns your digital projector / LCD Projector image into an interactive whiteboard that you can write on.

The SMART Board itself is a touch-sensitive giant screen that is connected to your computer. You use your digital projector to display your computer screen onto the SMART board and the software allows you to touch and interact with your computer.

As more and more school boards and teachers are investing in data projectors, it begs the question whether SMART Boards are a good investment. After all, an intuitive touch interface plus the ability to write on digital documents (with digital ink) would help us to move beyond blackboards, flip chart paper, and overhead projectors.

  • With the SMART Board, you can control any application through the touch board. So instead of working from behind the computer keyboard, you (or your students) can be at the front of the classroom physically interacting with the display.
  • You can use any of the 4 colours of markers or the eraser to write in digital ink over applications, web pages, or moving video. The SMART board still works if you lose the pens. (There are 4 coloured pen holders and one eraser. When you lift the pen out of the slot, it selects the colour or the eraser. When you touch the screen, it uses the selected color or the eraser.)
  • Like other digital ink software applications, you can save your work into a notebook file, and you can convert handwriting into text.

  • Hard to write. The biggest disappointment with the digital ink comes from the fact that a SMART Board is a front-mounted projection screen. This means that your data projector is set up in front of the screen (like an overhead projector). Which means that when you stand in between the projector and the screen, you cast a shadow on the screen… right where you are trying to write. Sure, it was cool to interact with programs by touching the screen, but, it was hard to write notes because you were constantly blocking the image.
  • Hard to write neatly. To be perfectly honest, it was a little disappointing how our handwriting turned out on the SMART Board. Better than our experiences with the other digital pens (i.e. the i-pen), but the handwriting was still large, blocky, and messy. One of the things you have to train yourself to do is to not lean up against the SMART Board. When you write on a blackboard or white board, you typically rest the edge of your palm on the board. If you do that on a touch screen, the cursor jumps to your palm and it doesn’t work out. You have to train yourself to just write using the tip of the pen. The marker worked fine if we wanted to underline or circle key ideas, but if you wanted to edit or revise a 12 point, double-spaced Word Document, you’d have a hard time getting the control required.
  • You still have to move back and forth from the keyboard to the screen. We could start up our web browser by touching the SMART board, but when it came time to enter in the website address, we had to go back to the desk to type in the URL.
  • Expensive. The Total Cost of Ownership of a SMART Board can be prohibitive for the classroom teacher. Retail cost of a 77? (195.6cm) front-projection SMART Board Interactive whiteboard is $1399 (USD) with a grant from the SMARTer Kids Foundation of Canada. (
  • You need to supply your own data projector. A new, decent projector will cost around $500 – $1000. The SMART Board is just a giant touch pad. Your need to provide your own projector to display the image onto the smart board. (Software, connection cables, and stand are included.)
  • You may want to upgrade to a wireless connection ($199 USD) to eliminate the cables and the tripping hazards in the classroom. The screen image and the SMART Board touch screen may get knocked out of alignment. This means that when you try to click a button, the mouse pointer appears a few inches to the side. You’ll have to realign your hardware which would interrupt the lesson.

Preventing Deep Vein Thrombosis

Perhaps you have heard about it on television, this recent phenomenon of people suffering serious illness, and even death, as a result of blood circulatory problems. In this modern age of travel and jobs that require less physical labor, we are fast becoming a sedentary race, and unfortunately this is causing various health issues like deep vein thrombosis. Fortunately, this is an easily preventable condition that does not take much work.

What is Deep Vein Thrombosis?

Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) is a condition defined by a blood clot, or thrombus, forming in a deep vein. Commonly affecting the leg veins, such as the femoral, popliteal, or the deep veins of the pelvic region, DVT can prove fatal if the clot makes it way into the blood. Clots may become caught in the veins and block circulation, or enter the heart and cause death. Therefore, it is always important to maintain good circulation and keep the blood clear. Consulting a physician or licensed therapist can help determine the best methods for staying healthy.

What Causes Deep Vein Thrombosis?

While recent research shows that various factors prove to put a person at risk for DVT, a more common cause for deep vein thrombosis isactivity. The less you move, the slower your blood circulates, thereby increasing the chances for clots to form. Business travelers, people who spend long hours in cramped airplane seats or in cars, and people bound to wheelchairs are especially at risk if they are unable to regularly circulate the blood in their legs.

Therefore, it is always recommended for people who are bound to desks and chairs to take advantage of quick breaks to get the blood flowing again. Even in an airplane, it is possible to stand up and move slightly around the cabin, if only to stimulate blood flow in the lower half of the body and prevent numbness.

Alternating Pressure and DVT

Ergonomic devices at work and home are always a plus. An alternating pressure cushion, for one, can improve circulation during times of inactivity.

Alternating pressure returns to a device that inflates and deflates in sections. Think of an air mattress or air seat cushion. As one pocket, the air is stagnant and does not move. When you sit on one, it may feel like sitting on an elevated version of the chair. Circulation remains the same.

Alternating pressure, however, works in a cushion devised of two or more air bladders interconnected to alternate inflating and deflating. Some bladders rise while others fall, and vice versa. This constant movement in a cushion lifts andifts the body in place, so even though one is sitting there is opportunity for better circulation.

Where there is better blood flow, naturally, there is less discomfort. Alternating pressure keeps the blood moving and the skin healthy, allowing it to breathe. When skin breathes, it contains a healthy color and elasticity. The blood flows and has less opportunity to clot, thereby reducing risk of DVT.

Cholesterol is a natural sterol that is produced in the liver; it is a vital part of a healthy body as it acts as a structural component of the cell membranes and helps the body to absorb various vitamins. Cholesterol becomes a problem when there is too much in the body.

Sometimes this is due to some hereditary condition but in most cases it is caused by what the person eats. Animals products, especially fat and dairy products have cholesterol in them. Eating too much of these types of foods or not exercising enough can lead to high cholesterol.

High cholesterol is not really noticeable to the person that has it. The first indication that they have a high cholesterol level may be during a regular check up at the doctors. However high cholesterol is believed to increase the risk of heart disease and thickening of the arteries. Both of these conditions can be life threatening so it is important to reduce cholesterol if the level is high. This article will discuss how you test cholestrol and the various tests available.

Anyone over 40 should be screened for cholesterol. This should be done as part of a regular check up every few years. A typical cholesterol test should be done as part of a lipid profile. A lipid profile essentially measures the amount and make up of lipids in the bloodstream.

Lipids are fats that attach them to lipoproteins in the bloodstream. Some of the lipids measured are:

LDL or low density lipoprotein cholesterol that is considered to be bad cholesterol because it thickens the walls of the artery;

HDL or high density lipoprotein cholesterol that is considered to be good cholesterol because it transports cholesterol to the liver where it is excreted;

Triglycerides that are fat molecules that are used as energy for the body. They are transported throughout the body on very low density lipoproteins (VLDL);

And total cholesterol. The total cholesterol reading of 200mg / dl is a normal reading. Anything over 250mg / dl is considered high.

Blood is drawn from a vein and then sent to a laboratory for analysis. This could take up to a week or longer to be returned. The analysis will be returned to your health practitioner who will decide a course of action should the reading be high or getting high.

There are home testing kits available if you are curious about your cholesterol level. They are not as accurate as a proper blood test but the y can give you some indication that you may have a high cholesterol reading. If you do have a high reading then it is probably a good idea to get a proper test. Home testing kits are cheap and work by analyzing a drop of blood taken from the finger. Most kits will analyze the blood in a few seconds and then give some color coded result. Green is low, red is high for example. Home test kits are generally good for one test only.

It is important to test cholesterol as early detection and treatment can prevent the onset of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. It is advisable to get it checked every few years, or, if you already have a high reading, every few months.

How To Cure Erectile Function By Going Natural

Erectile dysfunction is a sexual dysfunction in men wherein the penis can not develop or maintain an erection required for sexual intercourse. This kind of impotency is distinguished sharply from psychological impotence, since most cases of erectile dysfunction are large a physiological matter.

Erection of the penis in men involves blood flowing into the penis and held there by tissues that act like sponges. Erectile dysfunction occurs when anadequate amount of blood enters the penis. With blood being involved, erectile dysfunction can sometimes be a harbinger of hidden cardiovascular problems.

There are many causes of ED, and these include:

* physiological disorders (hormonal, neurogenic, cardiovascular, cavernosal)
* psychological causes (stress, depression, performance anxiety)
* substance abuse (drugs, alcohol, nicotine)
* surgery (radiation-induced, or cancer-removing surgery)
* aging

There are many commercial products circulating in the market that are targeted to cure ED (and related businesses are very lucrative at that). However, one can go natural. There are some substances, typically found in wholly organic food, that can help get erectile dysfunction cured.

Gingko – The herb is one of the safest ways to treat the disorder, and is specifically recommended for those dysfunction that result from anti-depressant drugs.

L-arginine – Found abundantly in meat, fish, and poultry, this amino acid produces nitric oxide, which in turn relaxes the walls surrounding the blood vessels in the penis. Dilated blood vessels allow for freer distribution of blood.

Zinc – Studies have shown that a severe lack of zinc due to digestive diseases, diabetes, and liver disorders can cause sexual dysfunction in men.

L-carnitine – The two forms of L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine, and propionyl-L-carnitine, have been found out to increase the effects of the popular drug Viagra. It is produced by the liver and kidneys and is totally safe.

Ringworm in Dogs and Treatment

The name of disease confuses us. We should be clear that Ringworm is not caused by worms. In fact, it is caused by Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum, or Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungus. In hot, humid climates, ringworm fungus is common but most cases of ringworm arise in the fall and winter. The pet owners must be very careful because it is a transmitted disease. It can be transmitted directly or get in touch with infected spores. If you have healthy adult dog then it is safer than young dogs. Young dogs have lack of resistance power to fight over ringworm.

If you find your dog is acting differently then you should try to find out what is wrong with him/her. Here are some symptoms of Ringworm:

  1. Skin scratches are the easy way to find out. If a round, hairless skin scratches that become visible on the face, paws or neck it is Ringworm. Because of its round shape, many people think it is caused by worm. Nevertheless, the skin scratches are not inevitably round in shape. They can be in any shape. At first, it appears in small shape but gradually it grows.
  2. Skin Pimple is another symptoms but it also can be possible that your dog is infected by ringworm but there is no pimples. It appears time to time so this is not the authoritative symptoms.
  3. Try to find out whether your dog has itching problem or not. Sometime, Ringworm brings painful itching linked with the hairless skin scratches. As skin pimple is not authoritative, itching are also not authoritative symptoms. It can be visible or can be hidden.
  4. It is not necessary that red and flaking skin should be seen where hairless skin scratches are seen. Sometime, it may confuse to diagnosis but if red hairless skin scratches seen on the face of your dog then it is ringworm.

Definitely it is painful for a dog to have ringworm but it is curable disease. The treatments are different for the different stages of ringworm. If the skin scratches are small and apart from it your dog is healthy then it takes four months to get healed. At first, you should clip around the area. Be careful you should not irritate the skin. Now days, miconazole cream, Lotrimin cream, or 1% chlorhexidine cream are popular medicine. These are antifungal medicine. You also can use antifungal shampoos or dips. A 0.5% chlorhexidine shampoo, 2% miconazole shampoo, ketoconazole shampoo, lime sulfur dips, or 2% chlorhexidine solution should apply every 2 to 4 days can be beneficial.

If you have neem in your garden then bathing with Neem Soap or Neem Shampoo and putting Neem Oil onto the affected area is helpful to your dog.

When to Call the Doctor About an Itchy Penis

Every man knows how it feels to have an itchy penis – and it’s not fun. However, in most cases an itchy penis goes away quickly, and usually a man knows exactly what caused it. That’s why most itchy, red penis situations aren’t cause for concern. But what is a man to do when he tried every penis care trick in the arsenal but the itchy penis doesn’t stop?

When a man has tried everything from excellent hygiene to soothing crèmes and nothing seems to help, he could be dealing with a more serious issue that requires a visit to the doctor. Here’s what a man should be aware of when his itchy, red penis persists no matter what.

1. Diabetes. Though it might seem strange that diabetes can cause an itchy penis, it can be surprising how many issues stem from this medical condition. A man with diabetes might tend to urinate much more, and that leads to a bit more moisture around the crotch area, which in turn leads to an overgrowth of bacteria. Besides that, a hallmark of diabetes is an overgrowth of yeast, leading to yeast infections. Though these are more common in women, a man with diabetes can develop them as well. An itchy penis accompanied by a burning sensation, whitish discharge and even a strange odor are all signs that a man should go to the doctor for yeast infection treatment.

2. Sexually transmitted diseases. It seems obvious, but it must be said: if a man is sexually active, he is at risk of contracting a disease from a partner. Some sexually transmitted diseases present with a variety of mild symptoms, including a penis itch that just won’t quit. Even if the itch doesn’t get worse, but simply persists at a typical level, it could be an indication of something picked up from a sexual encounter. In addition to the usual six-month checkup and testing for diseases, this itchy penis situation should send a man running to the doctor, pronto.

3. Eczema or psoriasis. If a man has either of these conditions on other parts of the body, it’s entirely possible he has them on his penis, too. But even a guy who has never suffered from them before can suddenly develop them on his most sensitive parts. The good news is that a doctor can usually diagnose this with a single glance, and can offer treatments that will either eliminate the itch or ease it tremendously. If the itchy penis is accompanied by redness, especially red patches or areas that look like shiny plaque on the skin, it’s time to get checked out.

4. Contact dermatitis. Sometimes an itchy penis is the result of simple allergies. A man might use a new cleanser, switch laundry detergents, or even have a reaction to a new partner’s perfume! In most cases the itch will go away quickly and once a man eliminates the cause, it won’t return. But if a guy can’t figure out what is causing the reaction or it keeps getting worse, it warrants a visit to the doctor.

Finally, a man should remember that a powerful penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is an especially potent way to alleviate an itchy penis. A man should look for a crème that contains vitamin A, known for its bacteria-fighting properties, as well as vitamin E, which keeps skin hydrated and cuts down on itchy from dryness. A plethora of other nutrients wrapped up in a Shea butter base can be a boon to any man’s personal hygiene.

Nail Fungus Treatments You Should Know About

Prescription Oral Medication

There are several different oral remedies available for the treatment of toenail fungus, although most are available by prescription only. Many of these oral remedies are taxing on the liver, so doctors prescribe them sparingly. Oral medications promote new nail growth. Be sure to file down or remove infected tissue as new healthy tissue grows in.

This is, of course, the last option, although it is a viable one, reserved for patients who end extreme pain as a result of the infection. Removal of the affected tissue is the primary initiative, although depending on the severity of the infection, further measures may be taken to prevent spreading. In very rare cases, this includes amputation.

Vinegar Soak

Vinegar and water, two parts to one, have proven to be an effective treatment method for nail fungus when implemented daily in 20-25 minute increments. Mild infections may need no more than a few soaks. Some patients may find this uncomfortable, so discontinue this method and call your doctor if you notice any redness or irritation as a result, but vinegar has been known to stop the spread of fungus by killing certain types of bacteria.

Over the Counter (OTC) Topical Treatment

There are OTC fungus treatments available, and those who use them find that they do effectively treat less serious fungal infections. Topical ointments have been shown to reduce the amount of irritation that fungal infections cause, regardless of whether or not they eliminate the infection entirely. Their chances of eliminating the infection depend on its severity and progress along with your adherrence to apply the ointment each day. They do, nonetheless, provide relief.

When applying topical ointments, take care to clean, dry and file down the affected nails. Filing allows the ointment to penetrate the nail through small abrasions. Often, the directions will be to apply the solution liberally to affected areas several times over the course of a month span. OTC topical ointments are the first choice among patients, and are doctor recommended for the treatment of mild infections .

Vicks Vapor Rub

It may seem bizarre, but some believe that applying Vick's VapoRub to the affected area can actually cure fungal infections. Many people who have heard of this method shy away from it. It often does not prove an effective form of treatment and it is not FDA approved. Before choosing any product for something other than its intended use, consult your doctor.

Allergic Rhinitis – Which Nasal Sprays Work Best?

Astelin (azelastine) is a unique drug with a chemical structure unlike any other allergy or asthma medication. It is approved for both seasonal and annual (chronic) allergic rhinitis and is available only by prescription. Allergic rhinitis is the most common type of allergy and is also known as "hay fever". Basically, an inflammation of mucous membranes that occurs when allergens touch the lining of your nose. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis are characterized by sneezing, congestion, itching and dripping of the nose, and itchy, watery eyes.

Astelin nasal spray is used to alleviate the symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis. These symptoms are often associated with a number of environmental allergies such as pollen, dust, animal dander, and mold. This works quickly, can be used as needed, is steroid-free, and does not contain pseudoephedrine.

Not Your Average Antihistamine

This is known as the only antihistamine nasal spray and has two main advantages over oral antihistamines. The first is that it provides targeted therapy to the areas of the body where its needed most. Oral medication must travel a long way through your digestive system and bloodstream before making its way to your head. When you're miserable, that can take a long time.

The second advantage is that Astelin is the only antihistamine approved for both allergic and vasomotor (nonallergic) rhinitis. Vasomotor rhinitis produces the same symptoms as allergic rhinitis and can be triggered by a variety of factors. These may include environmental irritants such as cigarette smoke or perfume, hormonal changes, temperature changes, and stress.

While it works as an antihistamine to block the effects of histamine on the body, it also contains properties of a bronchodilator and corticosteroid by relaxing constricted bronchial tubes in the lungs. This is unusual for a steroid-free product.

Astelin and the Rebound Effect

Some over-the-counter decongestant nasal sprays contain a topical vasoconstrictor which restricts blood supply to the nose and sinuses, thus reducing swelling, excess secretions, and congestion. However, if these over-the-counter sprays are used for more than a few days a rebound effect can occur. In others words, the more you use, the more you need, until the product becomes ineffective alike. Then you're back to square one with your allergy problems or even worse off than you were before.

Astelin does not cause rebound congestion because it does not contain a topical vasoconstrictor. The most common side effects include a bitter taste sensation, headache, nasal inflammation or burning, and drowsiness. It is approved for use in patients 5 years and older. Its generic equivalent, azelastine, is also available as an eye solution for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.

If you'd like to learn more about Astelin or its generic equivalent, please contact your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
