Family Connections Are Weak Support for Depression

There's a lot of misinformation still circulating from the 1970s New Age "love yourself" mandates and psychiatry's "how are you feeling" emphasizing that, unfortunately, is making it more difficult to roost ourselves up out of our depression because we have been encouraged to self -focus. Those very institutions of marriage and family that should be our help and support and keep us out of depression and loneliness are not significantly nourishing for us because we have focusing on ourselves instead of investing ourselves. We have been looking to marriage and family for what we want to get out of it rather than what we want to put into it.

The misguided self-esteem precept that we need to love ourselves first before we can do anything worthwhile probably devolved from the simple reality that what we really love about anything – person, place, or thing – is our own investment in them. Our own investment in something is what colors our warmer perception of it. That's what sparks up our neurons-our own thinking and action. People wrongly believe that our interest in something comes first and then we make an investment. Nope! Our neurons do not start to really sparkle at any great depth until after we get busy.

One reason why so many marriages and families are falling apart is that we do not understand this. If we want to love something or someone, if we want to feel bonded and connected, we need to start making an investment of our time and energy in them. That's what bonding is. That's why "love" is a verb. We do not really love another person; what we love is our interest in the other person. As we expand our investment in them, we expand our interest in them, and we expand our love for them.

I caution people about paying their children an allowance for work they do around the house. "No," I caution. "Children need to make an investment in their own family. They need chores and responsibilities. That's how they feel connected and bonded and" part of. "Their investment in the family is not their investment in them. comes first, but then you should be teaching them how to invest themselves. An allowance is for the purpose of teaching them money management.

Love is our decision to invest ourselves in some specific other person by making them "special" to us. We make people special to us by doing nice things for them; by finding nice things about them to notice and to think about; by politely averting our eyes during their "ugly" moments (we all have them); by showing forbearance for their grievous flaws (we all have them); and by putting their interests ahead of our own, whether we "feel like it" or not. If we are not able to put someone's interests ahead of our own, the point is not that we do not love them; the point is that if we do not put someone's interests ahead of our own, we can not love them because we will not be able to develop, thereby, the neural capacity to love them.

The opposite is also true. If we find we have developed an unchosen romantic interest because we have autonomously mind-wandered into making an investment in "the other woman," or "the other man" as the case may be, we can refuse to think about the person or situation. We simply choose other thoughts, direct our energy elsewhere, and before long we will find that as our investment has lessened, the associated neural activity fades and our interest cools.

Today's children are suffering more and more from alienation and loneliness. They need encouragement from the time they are 4 or 5 years old to invest themselves in their own families so that their families exist as more than just another free handout for which they feel they owe no debt or respect and to which they exhibit no gratitude. By the time they are teenagers they should have some sense of family identity and connection and bondedness that they have important "family duties." They should have a good feeling that the family counts on them, and in putting in some hard work themselves, they will have more of a respect for the hard work their parents do on their behalf.

Remember the old phrase "dutiful son." Would children today even care to be called that? Probably not. Duty is so devalued today and yet duty is what we can cling to when nothing else can save us from plunging into the bottomless despair of depression. What is duty? Duty is our personal investment in life. Our personal investment in life is the only thing we can really count on. The only thing that can not be taken away from us. That's why it sustains us as nothing else.

Building Range for the Beginning Trumpet Player

I teach many students each week, and all of them are interested in one thing: playing high notes on the trumpet.

I’m not sure where this fascination that higher is better came from (well, I guess we could Maynard Ferguson for this), but it is typically the area that most students, old and young, want to improve on.

Unfortunately, students are often pressured to play high. A first part trumpet player in high school is expected to play up to an above the staff C; sometimes, up to D. Because the student does not want to disappoint the director or look foolish in front of the rest of the band (the trumpet is a very loud instrument, and mistakes are projected just as much as correct notes), he or she will do anything to create these high notes. Often, an incorrect method is used. Most common is using too much pressure.

Some pressure is required to play the trumpet. However, too much pressure can create problems, such as loose teeth and fatigue. As a victim of too much pressure, I know firsthand the dangers that can occur. After 15 years of playing with a large amount of pressure, my two front teeth came loose with a cracking sound one day as I was playing. Five trips to the dentist and $5,000.00 later, I began researching methods on playing with less pressure.

Many factors must be accounted for before attempting a range building exercise. An often over-looked factor is how the student holds the trumpet. The student should be aware that the trumpet should be gently supported by the left hand; the right hand is only used to press the valves. The student should avoid putting a “death grip” on the trumpet with the left hand, and should avoid using the pinky ring on the right hand.

After this has been established, a correct embouchure should then be formed. Much controversy has always been present on the perfect embouchure. However, one that usually works well is a smile-pucker combination. The student is asked to smile, and then slowly pucker the lips while still smiling. The result is an embouchure with firm corners and a center that is loose enough to vibrate (after all, to play a trumpet one must vibrate the lips).

Finally, I will reveal the secret to correctly developing range in students: AIR. This often used, generic solution actually does work. It’s common for many teachers, when all else fails, to blame the problem on air support. In this case, it is air, but it is also a combination of other techniques.

To begin, the student must become used to taking a deep breath. To observe what the student thinks a deep breath is, ask him or her to take one. More than likely, he or she would breathe in loud and fast, and his or her chest would visibly swell up. THIS IS INCORRECT! The student is only using half of his or her lung capacity. I like to use the analogy of breathing like a baby. Whenever you watch a baby breath (especially when sleeping) his or her stomach rises up and down. By observing this, we can come to the conclusion that we should breathe all the way down into our stomach (or you can think of dropping the diaphragm). Try this: have the student breathe down to their stomach; tell them to breathe in and aim for their toes. They probably will still take in a loud, fast breath, but it will be deeper.

In order to improve on this, we must help the student take a more open breath. My favorite tool to use for this is an empty toilet paper tube. Try this: take the empty toilet paper tube, and put it inside of your mouth (about 1 inch of the tube will actually be in your mouth). Seal your lips around it, and breathe in. You will notice first off how much air you are taking in, and secondly, you may notice that the back of your throat feels cold. THIS IS HOW ALL BREATHING SHOULD BE DONE! Have your students try this. They may find it funny or goofy, but it will help. As for breathing without the toilet paper tube, tell the student to imagine that they have a baseball in their mouth. This will ultimately lead to more open breathing as well.

Now that breathing has been covered, range can be focused on. The best range building exercise I have used is one that I obtained from the Bill Adam routine. This exercise involves starting on a second line G, and playing it as a long tone, and then expanding out both ways on long tones. For example, I would start on G, and then play F#, then G#/Ab, then F, then A, and so on. Go as high as you safely can, and as low as you can go (pedal tones work great for range exercises). Be sure to also play each note as a long tone. You can either assign a specific number of counts (such as playing each note for 8 counts) or just play them until you run out of air. By expanding out, you are not only building range, but also getting your lips used to the different partials and developing your ear by playing large intervals. It should also be noted that low notes are just as, if not more, important than high notes. A good, three dimensional sound should always be attained.

The most important part of this exercise is to not play higher than is comfortable for you or the student, as injury could occur. To prevent this, tell the student that the embouchure (lip position) should never change; only the amount of air. As the range expands upwards, the air should be pushed from the diaphragm (stomach) muscles.

I have used this method on beginners, and now all of those students have as comfortable range of at least a 14th after 2 months of weekly lessons (the average range for beginners is an interval of a 7th after one year). With this method, the student will be on his or her way to playing solid in all ranges.

How to Trim Your Cat's Claws

In order to save your beloved furniture or even yourself from damage, it is important to clip your cat's claws on a regular basis; aim for at least once a month without your pet has been surgically de-clawed by a vet.

Although cats who spend a lot of time outdoors will naturally 'strop' their nails against posts and trees, indoor cats will need greater attention.

One must take great care when trimming a cat's claws in order not to unduly harm the poor animal. It is strongly advisable to get your vet to show you how to best clip your pet's claws before you yourself attempt it at home.

Although most pet stores sell purpose made claw clippers, ordinary human nail clippers are probably just as effective and cheaper. However, some people insist that only special pet clippers should be selected so use your own discretion on this.

Follow these steps when clipping:

(1) Hold the cat firmly, without hurting it, or even get a friend to assist in this.

(2) As cats' claws are retractable, you need to push each individual pad, on top ot the toe, to reveal the unsheathed claw, one at a time.

(3) Take note of the two different colors of the claw, a pink middle section next to a whitish covering that extends to the pointed end of the claw.

(4) ONLY cut the clear, white section, where the dead cells are and never the pink section, or quick; this is where the blood vessels and nerves are; if you draw blood, keep free from any germs. If your cat has black claws only remove the section that curls under.

If the procedure is started at the kitten stage, your pet will soon become used to having its claws trimmed.

If easier, only cut a couple of nails at a time or wait until your cat is napping before clipping. Remain calm and collected as your cat will likely sense any anxiety in you and become restless.

Occasionally, some cats are born with more than five nails on each foot, (and four on each back foot); This condition is called 'Polydactyl' and great care must be taken to keep nails trimmed in order to prevent ingrown toenails.

Keep your cat's claws regularly trimmed and you'll save on furniture and clothing repair bills; a scratch post kept indoors may also help with claw maintenance, and help keep your home in ship-shape.

5 Major Contributors To Low Blood Pressure Or Hypotension

Low blood pressure is no less threatening than high blood pressure. In fact this problem of low blood pressure which is also known as Hypotension often leads to dangerous consequences. In case of hypotension your blood moves in arteries or entire circulatory system with less than required pressure. Due to this, blood movement becomes slow. Because of this slowed rate of blood circulation all vital parts of body get less than the sufficient volume of blood to carry out the normal functioning. That is, functions of all of your vital organs get retarded due to hypotension.

Although there exists some explicit reasons of hypotension; still, it becomes difficult to ascertain exact causes for it in most of the cases.

1. Drugs and Medication

Hypotension often develops due to consumption of drugs used for various purposes. For example use of anti depressants can immediately result in low level of blood pressure. Medications used in cardiovascular complications could also facilitate hypotension. If you are using Diuretics continuously, major side-effects will definitely include low blood pressure. All high blood pressure medications if used over a period of time would give way to low BP.

2. Alcohol Consumption

Excessive alcohol consumption may also affect blood flow by lowering level of blood pressure. Some analgesics have been also found reducing blood pressure.

3. Over all health and diseases

An impending stroke could also be a cause of hypotension. That’s why people with cardiac complications are said to be extremely careful of hypotension. A chronic diabetic may also suffer from blood pressure disorder. Thus low BP could be termed as by product of different maladies. However cardiac diseases remain major contributor to low BP.

Anatomical inflammations may also cause hypo tension. For example- pancreatic swelling, cardiac inflammation and enlarged liver.

A nervous system disorder known as Vasovagal reaction that is identified by fear or trauma contributes to low blood pressure.

4. Dehydration

Dehydration undoubtedly happens to be the most common cause of low blood pressure. Dehydration may be due to less water consumption, vomiting, excess sweating and diarrhea. There could other reasons of dehydration too.

5. Diet

Low blood pressure could be also due to undernourishment or poor dietary habits. Less than required calorie intake tends to slow pace of blood circulation thus retards function of vital organs.

Despite the number of varied reasons of this ailment, the lower bp is identified with some common symptoms or indicators. These are regular headaches, irregular breathing, dizziness and excess vomiting.

Whatsoever may be the cause, you low BP could be cured well. Be positive while undergoing treatment for low BP as it would help you in your quest to overcome hypotension.

Panic Attack Symptoms After I Was Locked in a Drawer

Ever since that playful day my life has been riddled with anxiety and panic attacks.

As time went by over the years I developed some freaky panic attack symptoms that had been all to common to millions of other people in this world. Unfortunately I only recently (within the last few years) realized what I had, and what was causing me some crazy physical symptoms caused by thoughts of fear.

Maybe you were not locked in a drawer but also suffer from anxiety or panic attacks?

Stress can also cause this as well, but everyone has their own story. But the funny thing is that it is not often clear as to what causes panic disorder.

In my case I had several near death experiences where others were just stressed out with work, marriages, family issues, or drugs and alcohol use.

Yes I also at the age of 11 almost drowned in the ocean when our fishing boat capsized off the coast of Fort Bragg in California. This all happened on Easter morning so maybe the good Lord was looking over me that day ….

So anyway, your probably wondering what are the panic attack symptoms? How do you feel when you have a panic attack?

Well the symptoms can vary from person to person but there are some commonalities that have come to light.

Some of the symptoms you may expect are racing heart, skipping heart beats, tightness in your chest, hard time swallowing or choking sensation, intense fear of death or impending doom, disorientation, claustrophobic, and needing to pace back and forth or get away from the area where you are having these intense feelings.

I know it all sounds crazy and I would not wish this on my worst enemy …

Panic attacks are actually caused by fearing fear itself and nothing more. Being stressed out or overwhelmed can often trigger the onset of these intelence feelings.

Type 2 Diabetes – Does Folic Acid Help Prevent Heart Disease?

In August of 2017, the journal Nutrition Research and Practice reported on a study carried out on post menopausal Korean women who had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. They were looking specifically at the risk of the women developing heart disease.

Scientists at Ewha Women’s University and Huh’s Diabetes Clinics in Seoul, Korea, included 25 women in the study who had been supplemented with 800 micrograms of folic acid for eight weeks…

  • Folate (a B vitamin) levels, significantly increased while homocysteine, a type of amino acid, levels decreased.
  • LDL, or “bad” cholesterol levels, decreased. The ratio of LDL to HDL or “good” cholesterol, improved as well as the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL.

From the above results, the researchers concluded folic acid lowered blood homocysteine, increased folate, and improved the character of cholesterol. The amino acid homocysteine is made from the breakdown of proteins in the body and is associated with heart and blood vessel disease in adults…

  • in high levels, it increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
  • Homocysteine is thought to contribute to a buildup of plaque inside arteries.
  • lower levels are associated with a decreased risk for heart and blood vessel disease.

Folate or folic acid, also known as vitamin B9, is necessary for DNA replication and cell division. It has been previously seen to lower homocysteine levels when combined with vitamins B12 and B6. Some foods high in folate include…

  • legumes – beans, peas, lentils.
  • nuts,
  • avocados,
  • dark green leafy vegetables – broccoli, spinach, collard greens, turnip greens, okra, brussels sprouts.
  • asparagus, and
  • citrus fruits and juices.

Beans and citrus fruits are not usually eaten together, but suggests cooking Spicy Citrus Black Beans. The ingredients sound tasty…

  • orange juice,
  • lime juice,
  • black beans,
  • olive oil,
  • minced onion,
  • garlic,
  • chili powder,
  • garlic powder,
  • onion powder,
  • cumin, and
  • oregano. offers a recipe for making a Broccoli Salad with avocado dressing. tells how to make a broccoli salad using cashews to make the dressing. NB. Be careful of portion sizes. Although avocado fat is healthful, it still has more calories than protein or carbohydrates.

How about a healthy Waldorf Salad? has a recipe that uses broccoli, avocado, mustard, red grapes, and walnuts.

Legumes and dark green leafy vegetables are easy to grow in your kitchen garden…

  • asparagus and citrus fruits take more patience than legumes.
  • asparagus takes time to become established before you can harvest the edible shoots.

Why not consider orange trees as part of your landscaping: the best time to plant young trees is in spring.

Feel Young Again – Human Growth Hormone Can Help You!

By the time you reach 60, your natural production of Human Growth Hormone is most likely to be half of what it was when you were 20. This means that you will have less energy, more body fat, heal slower and have a weaker immune system. Recent studies have shown the direct impact Human Growth Hormone has on multiple body functions.

How can Human Growth Hormone or HGH help you?

By supplying your body with increased release of Human Growth Hormone. This is how it works… HGH is produced by your anterior pituitary gland and plays a role in your immune system function, tissue repair, cell replacement, and bone strength.

HGH was produced by your pituitary gland in large amounts when you were young, but secretion fell off sharply as you aged. HGH promotes tissue repair, cell regeneration in your bones, muscles and vital organs, and supports your immune system in combating infections and diseases.

HGH achieves this by improving the movement of amino acids (the building blocks of cells and muscles) across your cell membranes. As your body’s cells die off, HGH ensures that replacement cells are healthy and readily available. As you age, your HGH levels decline causing your cell replacement levels to reduce.

Although HGH levels decrease as you get older, you can supplement HGH naturally into your diet. So where exactly can you get HGH: Exercise – Exercising regularly will slowly begin to increase natural production of HGH. Eat Certain Foods- Certain amino acids, arginine, lysine, and ornithine can promote your body’s natural release of growth hormone.

You can also get it as an natural HGH supplement through pills or spray, that supports your body’s ability to self-repair and delay the aging process, and as an injectable.

With injectable HGH there is much skepticism about absorption, the best time to inject and the amount to inject. Injectable HGH is active approximately 30 minutes in your system before it is dissipated or lost. Because HGH dosages are not an exact science, clinical trials have not yet determined the quantity (IU’s) needed, injection times, and durations for optimum results.

Which simply put means there is a lot of wasted HGH happening besides the side effects that come with incorrect dosages. There is also the chance that while injecting HGH that your pituitary gland could be permanently shut down. This is why supplementing HGH pills or spray in a way that mimics your body’s own cycle of secretion is far more efficient because you take small dosages giving you 100% absorption.

There is an HGH Supplement with all the benefits of HGH without any side effects. As seen on TV. A new and powerful HGH release supplement, and it is all natural. You get all the benefits of an HGH release product without any possible side effects.

With the cost of injectable HGH at about $800.00 to $1200.00 per month and pills or spray at $59.00 per month it takes the guesswork out of the equation as far as price is concerned.

There is a FAQ web page at the website link below if you need more information. Questions answered such as how do these natural supplements work? Is HGH therapy safe? What’s unique about it? How long does it take for it to work for me? How can it improve my body month-by-month? What age is appropriate to start taking HGH? And more.

If you are unable to find answers to your inquiries after reviewing the faqs they will provide you with further human growth hormone information when you contact them directly.

This HGH release supplement can help you fight the effects of aging. It provides natural supplements that can slow or reverse the biological and physical effects of aging. These natural supplements can help you release more HGH in your body, which should make you lower your biological age in comparison to your chronological age.

HGH offers you all the following potential benefits. Reverse the effects of aging, increase your energy, reduce fat, increase sexual potency, gain lean muscle, sharpen memory, improve sleep quality, wrinkle reduction and much more.

Handicapping 101: Cold Weather

Ever wonder why your fingers, toes, ears and other extremes get especially cold in frigid weather?

The body adjusts to extremely cold weather by adjusting the flow of blood. Crucial organs, such as the heart and liver, get more blood which is diverted away from the extremities, such as the fingers, toes and ears. Blood vessels in the extremities constrict, nearly shutting off, leaving the skin at increased risk of frostbite.

That's the medical definition, but anyone who's ever laced on skates in an outdoor rink, hit the slopes, or even engaged in a friendly snowball fight can tell you that your motor skills decrease in frigid weather. Throwing a football with numb fingers is not only tricky, it can be painful. In fact, playing any position with numb fingers increases the chance of "finger jams", which is simply when numbness prevails you from squeezing the ball the way you normally would and increases the chance of an injury on the impact with the ball or an opposition player . It's just one of the many small inconveniences of playing in cold weather. Everything constricts in cold weather, including the pigskin, leaving the ball with an entirely different feel – throwing a cold football is entirely different than throwing a warm football with an expanded hide.

Playing in the cold is perfected through practice, so teams that are forced to practice in the cold are invariably going to do better in that situation. Pay particular attention in cold weather games to the quarterback, and his experience in the situation. Teams that practice in the cold primarily include Green Bay, Chicago, Denver, The Giants, Jets, Eagles, Steelers, Bills, Ravens, Patriots, Browns, Bengals, Redskins and to a lesser degree – The Chiefs and Titans. Players who practice in cold weather changes year to year; Brett Farvre is one of the all time best – in any weather.

There were 10 regular season games in 1998 (our test season) where the game time temperature was recorded at less than 40 degrees. Those games were;

Week 10 – San Diego @ Denver – 37 degrees

Week 14 – Kansas City @ Denver – 35 degrees

Week 16 – Baltimore @ Chicago – 36 degrees

Week 16 – Tennessee @ Green Bay – 29 degrees – snow

Week 17 – Minnesota @ Tennessee – 35 degrees

Week 17 – Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati – 39 degrees

Week 17 – Detroit @ Baltimore – 39 degrees

Week 17 – Chicago @ Green Bay – 39 degrees

Week 17 – NY Giants @ Philadelphia – 37 degrees

Week 17 – New England @ NY Jets – 37 degrees

Do you know what the 10 coldest games of the year have in common, other than the fact they were the 10 coldest games of the year? In each of the 10 games, the favorite won the game, usually by a landslide. In fact, the favorite had an ATS mark of 8-2 in the 10 coldest games of the year.

Not only did the favorites in these cold wars win the game, like their hot air cousins, the favorites dominated. In fact, of all the underdogs in these 10 contests, only twice did the underdog score more than 16 points, Kansas City in their 35-31 loss to Denver, and Tennessee in their 30-22 loss at Green Bay. In the other eight games, the underdogs scored just 72 points combined, or, nine points per game on average. The favorites scored 263 points combined, for better than 26 ppg on average. Again, UNDER THE TOTAL dominated the sportsbooks in these games, as the under played out to a tune of 7-2-1 in these 10 games.

It's interesting to note that the NFL was pretty fair in the scheduling of the cold wars, as only San Diego & Tampa Bay were asked to go "out of their element" with regards to playing in cold weather. San Diego was wasted in Denver, managing just 10 points, but Tampa Bay shocked many in a 35-0 rout of the Bengals at Synergy Field in 39 degree weather.

In other words, it certainly appears that favorites in a cold weather game are favored for good reason.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

As a writer for a local technology publication, I have had the privilege of testing and reviewing tones of consumer electronics. The Blu-ray movie format looks set to take over DVDs and major manufacturers like Panasonic, Sony, LG and Samsung are already in the race to produce the best Blu-ray players. At the time of writing, I personally feel that the Panasonic DMP-BD60 1080p Blu-ray disc player is leading the race.

The Panasonic DMP-BD60 1080p Blu-ray disc player may not be the cheapest model in the market. Then again it is so much more than just a Blu-ray player. I have tested a couple of Blu-ray movies on this player with Panasonic's VIERA plasma television and visuals produced were just jaw dropping. The details were so clear that we were able to catch the imperfections on the actor's makeup. It also did a pretty good job at up-converting DVD movies. Thanks to its 1080 / 24p output, the DVD plays on this player were much clearer and sharper compared to when played on regular DVD players.

The Panasonic DMP-BD60 1080p Blu-ray disc player output also has an Ethernet port that you can use to connect the player to the internet. Once connected to the internet, you will be able access a whole variety of online content through the VIERA cast features. You can use to player to view videos on YouTube and images on Picasa. Soon, you will be able to gain access to Amazon's Video on Demand. The Panasonic DMP-BD60 1080p Blu-ray disc player is also a very energy efficient model, consuming 16% less energy than its predecessor model.

Are Eating Disorders Related To Bad Habits (Part 1)?

Eating disorders are characterized by an abnormal obstruction with food and weight. Eating disorders are much more noticed in women than in men due to the fact that men often do not seek help.

We believe, that for most people, a link exists between habits formed long ago and eating disorders.

An eating disorder is a complex compulsion to eat in a way which disturbs physical, mental, and psychological health. The eating may be excessive (compulsive over-eating); to limited (restricting); may include normal eating punctuated with episodes of purging; may include cycles of binging and purging; or may encompass the ingesting of non-foods.

Being overweight is generally caused by the intake of more calories (by eating) than are expired by the body (by exercise and everyday living). Factors which may contribute to this imbalance include:

* Limited exercise and sedentary lifestyle

* Oveating

* Genetic predisposition

* A high glycemic index diet (ie a diet that consist of meals that give high postprandial blood sugar)

* Hormone imbalances (eg hypothyroidism)

* Metabolic disorders, which could be caused by repeated attempts to lose weight by weight cycling

* An eating disorder (such as binge eating disorder)

* Stress

* Insufficient sleep

* Psychotropic medications

* Smoking cessation

The amount of body fat is regulated to some extent subconsciously by the brain (by controlling caloric intake through appetite and food preferences). Although the exact mechanisms by which this occurs are not entirely known, one common theory suggests that each person may possess an inherent "set point" weight which the brain attempts to maintain, and that this set point may vary for each individual depending on a variety of factors including genetic predisposition, environment, and past experience. A habit link from the past can trigger this set point.

This leads to the conclusion that some individuals may be predisposed to naturally maintaining different body weights than others, and then it may be easier for some people to avoid being overweight, while others may find it much more difficult. It also suggests, however, that an individual's set point may be changeable with appropriate environment and conditioning.

A large number of people undergo some form of treatment to attempt to reduce their weight, usually either in an attempt to improve their health, to improve their lifestyle, or for cosmetic reasons. The generally recommended treatment for being overweight is a modified or controlled diet in conjunction with increased exercise. For those who are obese rather than overweight, more intensive therapies such as drugs or surgery are sometimes used.

Studies suggest that reducing calorie intake by itself (dieting) may have short-term effects but does not lead to long-term weight loss, and can often result in gaining back all of the lost weight and more in the longer term. For this reason, it is generally recommended that weight-loss diets not be attempted on their own but instead in combination with increased exercise and long-term planning and weight management.

Moreover, for all individuals, repeatedly losing weight and then gaining it back ("yo-yo dieting"), is believed to do more harm than good and can be the cause of significant additional health problems.

Is there a underlining issue that may work better than dieting for eating disorders?

Definition: Habit – Noun – Singular

1. An action done on a regular basis.

Example: It's become a habit of mine to have a cup of coffee after dinner.

Let's take the above example. Many years ago, we started a habit of drinking coffee after dinner. It was a time to relax and talk about the day. Unfortunately, the coffee must have 2 teaspoons of sugar for our tastes. If we wanted 2 cups of coffee that became 4 teaspoons. Every night, day after day, week after week the sugar and calories added up.

Another example was our lunch time at work. The sub sandwich shops figured out years ago that to increase the revenue per customer, a combo meal made a great "up sell". Unfortunately, the combo meal typically included a large selection of chips. High in fat and questionable nutrition value, chips have become a habit in our eating styles.

How many of you also stop at the local coffee store on the way into work for calorie loaded coffee and maybe a muffin to make you feel full going to work?

Each of these examples OVER TIME becomes a habit. The habit makes your brain crave the food / drink / mood when you stop or alter the routine. We now know that good habits can replace bad habits if the desire is truly there.

Our next article will talk about what steps you must take to change the habits creating a chaotic eating disorder.

Be Proactive In The Treatment Of Diabetes

Once diagnosed with diabetes, the first and most important step is to educate yourself. Armed with adequate knowledge, you will then be able to make wise decisions when choosing a doctor to help with your treatments.

The doctor should provide you with information on how to control your blood sugar level, what are the treatments involved and lifestyle changes that will work towards putting your type of diabetes under control.

You will also need to look out for possible diabetes complications and learn to take care of your body. Since diabetes can affect the foot, eye and kidney, you may need to seek the counsel of specialist based on your doctor's recommendation.

If for instance, you are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, you will need to have insulin injections. Although you can have someone else to help you with the injection, it is necessary that you learn the procedure, as you may need to inject yourself in an emergency.

These insulin injections, usually done around mealtime, are either predetermined by the doctor or they are prescribed based on the level of your blood sugar. When using insulin, it is important to take regular meals or you can develop hypoglycemia, a diet-related condition where there is an abnormally low level of sugar in the blood. In the worst case scenario, people with this condition can go into a coma.

Exercise is essential and important. It needs to be done regularly. Basically, if you take a 20-minute walk on a thrice weekly basis, you will make an impact on the level of sugar in your blood. Additional exercises will be beneficial to your health. However, do be careful if you have already developed some kind of complaints that are related to your type of diabetes. You should seek the expert advice of your doctor as you should work on exercises that are not harmful to your body.

People suffering with diabetes must be put on a healthy diet plan. The diabetic diet should be high in fiber, but low in fats and sugar. You must eat regularly and with about the same portion of food each time. This will help make it easier to control the levels of your blood sugar.

For those who take alcohol, it is advisable to either drink modestately or quit equally. If you choose to continue with drinking, you should take no more than three drinks on any given day or should not exceed seven drinks per week. Please note that alcohol can lower or raise the levels of sugar, cause nerve pain, and increase your triglycerides, the chemical form in which most fats exist in food and the body.

The risks at developing severe diabetes complications will go up, if you are a smoker. Your blood vessels are probably damaged from smoking and you are placed at risk for a stroke or heart disease. AIDS, damaged blood vessels will cause poor blood circulation in the lower parts of the body and this can lead to more serious consequences, such as amputations.

Do not allow diabetes to take control of you. Be proactive, take control of the disease. All it takes is make changes by adopting a healthy lifestyle, quit or reduce your intake of alcohol, and stop smoking altogether.

What Are The Pros and Cons of Using A Penis Extender Device?

If you are like most guys who are embarrassed about having a small penis, you have read about how a penis extender device is the only scientifically proven device for getting bigger.

A penis extender (also known as a penis stretcher or a penis traction device) works on the principle of traction long used in orthopaedic surgery. In orthopaedic surgery, limbs are worked on to make functional again. How it works is that our body cells multiply and grow when a measured traction force is applied to a certain part of the body.

This cell multuplication results in the growth of the body tissue. When applied to penis enlargement, the penis traction device exerts a safe, measured traction force over the length of the organ, thereby encourage cell multiplication and tissue growth.

The good news is that various clinically studies have been carried by doctors in Spain and these proved beyond a doubt that such a device does work. This is further supported by the countless forum posts on success stories by guys using such enlargement devices.

So as you can see, using a penis extender is the only clinically proven way for you to enlarge your manhood.

But now for the bad news. A penis traction device is not all good and nothing bad. There are some concerns and these are mainly price and comfort.

First, the price. A penis extender is not cheap and a reasonably good one can set you back anywhere from US$200 to US$400. So it is out of reach of many small guys who may need them. But there are good ones around which are priced lower but you need to look hard to find them. More on that later…

Another issue is the comfort of wearing a device on your penis. Note that you need to “wear” it for a few hours a day, every day for the first 2 months at least. Otherwise, you won’t get the results you want. Wearing something foreign on your manhood for hours can be uncomfortable. So many guys are rightly concerned about comfort.

Surely, you don’t want to damage your manhood wearing a device just to get bigger. There is a solution to the discomfort problem, though. This is the comfort strap that you can use to wrap around your penis to prevent it from being sore. Some penis stretcher comes with this comfort so it is better to get those.

So, there you have it. The good and bad things about using a penis extender device. If you are really keen on getting one (because it works), then please only get one that comes with a comfort strap. If budget is a concern to you, then you might want to get one that does not come with all the frills like mahagony case and what not. You can instead look for one that is bare-bones yet fully functional.

If you look hard enough, I’m sure you can find one that is affordable and comes with a comfort strap to make life easier for you.

New Manufactured Home Foundation Essentials – 2 Must Have Upgrades

When purchasing and installing a new Manufactured Home, there are two upgrades that are recommended. They are installing a Vapor Barrier and Earthquake Bracing. Each is explained here:

Mobile Home Vapor Barrier

A Vapor Barrier for a Mobile or Manufactured home is a sheet of thick, rubbery plastic that goes directly over the dirt under a Mobile or Manufactured home. The foundation piers then rest on top of this barrier.

You really need to make sure a home you buy or have installed has this protection. Mobile and Manufactured homes need dry ventilation underneath. This barrier will prevent any moisture from damaging the home – especially rotting of the floors, but also helping with fungus, mold, and termites.

Making sure that a vapor barrier is installed before you buy a Mobile or Manufactured home is absolutely necessary. And the additional cost is very minimal considering the amount of protection you gain.

If you are buying a mobile or manufactured home that is already on a space, but with no vapor barrier, then you can hire a contractor to install a vapor barrier under the home. They will just have to cut pieces that will go around the pier-and-post foundation and all piping in place. This is not ideal, but way better than no barrier at all.

Mobile Home Earthquake Bracing

Earthquake bracing is recommended in California, and elsewhere earthquakes are common. Mobile Homes and Manufactured Homes are especially susceptible to damage in a earthquake due to their foundation system (most of the time they are installed on a pier-and-post system).

Earthquake bracing is a simple upgrade that can increase the value of your home by at least the cost of installation of the bracing. This cost is running from $2000 to $4500 in California right now. The actual brace is like a shock absorber in a car, but installed at an angle from the steel I-beam on the bottom of the home, and anchored to the ground. This brace will keep the home from shifting off the pier-and-post foundation.

Insurance companies may insist on having earthquake bracing installed if you want to purchase earthquake insurance on your Mobile Home or Manufactured Home.

Earthquake bracing can also help a Mobile Home not come off the foundation in high winds, although it is not designed to do this and should not be relied on for this.
