The Importance of Family Love

I wonder if someone could explain this in words. No not at all, it is not easy to hold the weight of words describing family love. Yeah but someone can do the job nicely! The one who has departed from his family members or the one who is unable to see the beautiful faces of his parents and siblings. The one who has pulled up stakes from his family will surely realize later, that he has lost something worth caring. They all can feel the importance of Mother love in it’s intense form. They can realize the importance of father’s intimacy and the confidence of sharing tales with one’s siblings.

Though sometimes out of anger and wrath we behave unfriendly but it does not mean that we don’t care for each other. Family quarrels are bitter things but are of least importance. We should not care about these few bitter memories but rather we must think about the existing love within our family members.

Actually a family is the building block of a society. Many families when combined give rise to a social network. If the building block of a society is scattered then imagine the bitterness that spoils the whole society! But if the family members are linked to each other with the strong bonds of love and intimacy, a prosperous society will be developed.

Family members are amongst those few people in this present day world, who will genuinely worry about you. They will always be there for you, to fall back upon when you have been disillusioned with the outside world. Though at times it feels that they are interfering too much in your life, it’s only because they care for you. If sometimes you feel bad about them, do focus on your mistakes and errors and be sorry for them.

In family life, love plays the role of a magic bullet which helps you to overcome all the difficulties that come across your path. You are able to share all your sorrows and pleasures also with people who really love you and care for you! The love of your family is your ultimate confidence and strength, so take care of your family members and truly love them before it’s too late and you have to repent on your carelessness.

“There’s no vocabulary for love within a family, love that’s lived in but not looked at, love within the light of which all else is seen, the love within which all other love finds speech. This love is silent.”

Differences Between Damask, Brocade, and Jacquard

Often times, uneducated individuals use the terms damask, brocade, and Jacquard interchangeably with one another. It can often confuse those who are unfamiliar with the world of fabrics. Jacquard is a decorative or woven pattern that is created by using a Jacquard attachment on a loom. The attachment resembles the punch card on a piano. It is purported to offer better versatility and fabric control for the operator of the loom. The Jacquard technique can be applied to a variety of fabrics, and it is commonly used on brocade and damask fabrics. It is commonly used in a variety of apparel and home goods, from tablecloths to bedding.

Brocade is defined as a lavishly decorated, shuttle woven fabric. It is primarily woven from silk; although, it is possible to find brocade constructed from a blend of silk and synthetic fibers. Often, it will be embroidered with gold or silver thread. Brocade can trace its origins back to India, where weaving is a traditional art form. It is typically woven on a loom, and it may or may not be woven using the Jacquard technique. It is also characterized by the manner in which the brocaded or broached parts of the fabric hang in loose groups or are clipped away. Although the scenes and patterns on brocade appear to have been embroidered, the scenes are actually woven into the fabric using advanced weaving techniques that involve manipulating the weft and weave of the fabric. The most common types of scenes depicted on brocade fabric are those of floral prints.

Damask, similarly to brocade, is a fabric that features woven scenes of floral patterns, intricate geometric designs, or simple scenes of domestic life. It may be woven of silk, wool, linen, cotton, or synthetic fibers. However, it is most commonly created from silk. It is primarily different from brocade in the fact that its woven fabric pattern is reversible, while that of brocade is not. Similarly, shorter weft patterns in damask allow for more subtle effects in the fabric to be created as it plays off of shadow and light. Damask weaves also contain a higher thread count than that of brocade. Double damask weaves are the highest quality of damask produced; however, it is also the most expensive.

Top 7 Hard Rock And Heavy Metal Guitar Tunings

There are many different guitar tunings that are used in Rock and Metal music besides standard tuning. Guitar players in these genres like to use these tunings because they give a heavier and darker sound to their music.

Some of the more popular tunings used are Dropped D, Dropped C, Dropped B, E Flat, D, C and open G. Here are the descriptions of how the strings should be tuned and some of the bands that use them.

Dropped D tuning:

E ———-1st string

B ———-2nd string

G ———-3rd string

D ———-4th string

A ———-5th string

D ———-6th string (thickest)

This tuning enables power chords to be played with a single finger on the lowest three strings and produces a dark sound with it. If you’re music doesn’t fit together with this dark sound, you can place a capo on the 2nd fret and can still easily play power chords.

Some bands that use Dropped D tuning are:

Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Silverchair, Soundgarden and Velvet Revolver.

Dropped C tuning:

D ———-1st string

A ———-2nd string

F ———-3rd string

C ———-4th string

G ———-5th string

C ———-6th string (thickest)

Dropped C tuning is the Dropped D with each string lowered one whole step. Dropped C tuning produces a very low and heavy sound and is used by many of the new Heavy Metal bands.

Some bands that use Dropped C tuning are:

30 Seconds to Mars, Atreyu, Buckethead, Bullet for My Valentine, Children of Bodom, Godsmack, Bad Religion, Metallica, Mudvayne, P.O.D., Papa Roach, Rammstein, Shadows Fall, System of a Down, Three Days Grace and Ozzy Osbourne.

Dropped B tuning:

C# ———-1st string

G# ———-2nd string

E ———-3rd string

B ———-4th string

F# ———5th string

B ———-6th string (thickest)

This tuning will need heavier gauge strings to be effective. Also you might have to widen the string grooves as well as adjust the tension in the neck of your guitar.

Some bands that use Dropped B tuning are:

Audioslave, Limp Bizkit, Machine Head, Mudvayne, Slipknot and Stone Sour.

Eb tuning:

Eb ———1st string

Bb ———2nd string

Gb ———3rd string

Db ———4th string

Ab ———5th string

Eb ———6th string (thickest)

This tuning is Standard tuning turned down a half step. There are a few reasons that bands use this tuning instead of Standard tuning. One reason is to sound heavier by using heavy gauge strings. By tuning down a half step it is easier to bend these heavy gauged strings. Another reason why some bands use this tuning is to compliment the lead singers voice.

Bands that use Eb tuning are:

Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Guns N’ Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Kiss, Megadeth, Metallica, Motorhead, Nirvana, Poison, Slayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stone Sour, Van Halen, Weezer and Yngwie Malmsteen.

D tuning:

D ———-1st string

A ———-2nd string

F ———-3rd string

C ———-4th string

G ———-5th string

D ———-6th string (thickest)

D tuning is also known as whole step down tuning and as you have probably already guessed, it’s Standard tuning tuned down a whole step. D tuning has been used mainly in Heavy Metal music.

Bands that have used D tuning are:

Alice in Chains, The Beatles, Bullet For My Valentine, Bob Dylan, Children of Bodom, Dream Theater, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Racer X and Soundgarden.

C tuning:

C ———-1st string

G ———-2nd string

Eb ———3rd string

Bb ———4th string

F ———-5th string

C ———-6th string (thickest)

C tuning also produces a low sound that is mostly used by Hard Rock and Metal bands. The tuning is 2 whole steps below Standard tuning, which gives it a heavy sound but still maintains the same intervals as Standard tuning.

Bands that have used C tuning are:

Atreyu, Black Sabbath, Bullet For My Valentine, Deftones, Dream Theater, Jimi Hendrix, P.O.D., Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot, Steve Vai and The Who.

G tuning:

D ———-1st string

B ———-2nd string

G ———-3rd string

D ———-4th string

G ———-5th string

D ———-6th string (thickest)

Other than the Drop D tuning, G Tuning is one of the most popular alternate guitar tunings.

Some bands that have used G tuning are:

The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam.

These are just some of the alternate guitar tunings that are available to you to experiment with. Play around with them and see which tunings fit your style of music.

How to Stop the Racing Thoughts of Bipolar Disorder

One of the biggest complaints from someone who has bipolar disorder is the racing thoughts that seem to plague them – when they just can not "shut off" their brain. There are several things that can be done to help them with this problem, however.

Usually, it is just during a manic episode when a person with the disorder really has problems with these racing thoughts. However, I have also heard the same thing expressed to me by others who are not in an episode.

Here are some (natural) suggestions that may help you:

• Do crossword puzzles
Doing crossword puzzles helps you to focus your thoughts on something specific instead of letting them roam.

• Read a book
Reading a book, especially one in which you can become absorbed, will also focus your thoughts, and you will become more involved in the book's plot than in your own thoughts.

• The chalkboard technique
Some people have used this technique with great success. Imagine a blackboard in your mind. As each thought comes to you, it is "written" on the chalkboard, which you instantly erase. Keep doing this with every thought as it comes. Occasionally, you will tire yourself out and / or the thoughts will cease.

• Write in a journal
Writing your thoughts down in a journal can be very effective. You do not have to worry about anyone else seeing your journal but you, so it does not matter how messy your handwriting is (writing quickly to get your thoughts down on paper can get pretty messy). The only complaint I've heard about this method is that some people say that their thoughts are faster than theirs
writing!

• Use a tape recorder
Those who complain about writing in a journal have found great success with this technique. Just tape record your thoughts. This way you can speak as fast as your thoughts come to you. Occasionally you will exhaust those thoughts (as well as your voice), and be able to sleep.

These are just some suggestions. Get creative! I'm sure that, with some inspiration, you will be able to think of some others on your own.

Symptoms Of Diabetes

The symptoms of diabetes most of the time begin gradually, and can be difficult to identify initially. They may include fatigue, sudden weight loss, blurred vision, slow healing of wounds, frequent urination – especially at night, and excessive thirst. When there is extra glucose in the blood, the body gets rid of it through frequent urination. The loss of fluids induces extreme thirst, leading to more frequent urination.

A doctor may also suspect a patient to have diabetes if he has health problems related to diabetes, such as heart disease, changes in vision, numbness in the feet and legs or sores that are slow to heal. These symptoms do not mean that the person has diabetes, but anyone with these problems should definitely see a doctor.

A person with diabetes may actually show no symptoms. Type 2 diabetes, in particular, develops slowly, even for years before it is diagnosed. When symptoms develop, they vary from person to person. The two symptoms that occur in most people with the disease are increased thirst and frequent urination.

The way these symptoms develop differs for Type I and Type II diabetes. In Type I diabetes, they usually show up slowly in children or adolescents over a period of a few days or weeks. In Type II diabetes, symptoms develop even more slowly, over a period of years – in adults over the age of forty. Adults often do not realize they have diabetes mellitus. The condition may only be discovered during a routine physical examination for some other ailment.

Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.

Type – 1 diabetes symptoms:
Symptoms of Type – I diabetes often come suddenly and very severely. They include:
– exceptional thirst (polydipsia)

– dry mouth

– frequent urination (polyuria)

– weight loss

– feeling weak and tired

– blurred vision

Type – 2 diabetes symptoms:
Mostly, people with Type 2 diabetes do not notice any symptoms, or the symptoms are experienced gradually. They include:
– blurred vision

– cuts or wounds that heal slowly

– itchy skin

– increased thirst

– dry mouth

– frequent urination

– leg pain

Gestational diabetes symptoms:

– increased thirst

– increased urination

– weight loss in spite of good appetite

– fatigue and weakness

– nausea and vomiting

– frequent infections including those of the bladder, vagina and skin

– blurred vision

– irritability

Other warning symptoms of diabetes mellitus include:
– Flu-like symptoms – like a viral illness, along with fatigue, weakness and loss of appetite.

– Weight gain or loss – as the body is trying to compensate for lost fluids and sugar, one tend to eat more than usual and gain weight. On the other hand, one may also eat more than normal, but still lose weight because the muscle tissues do not get enough glucose to generate growth and energy. In fact, most people with type 1 diabetes are at or below their normal weight.

– Blurred vision – high levels of blood sugar draw out fluid from the tissues in the body including the lenses of the eyes. For most people this causes only mild vision problems. Neverheless, for others, the effects may be much more serious, even blindness.

– Slow healing sores or frequent infection – bladder and vaginal infections can be a particular problem for women.

– Nerve damage (neuropathy) – excess sugar in blood can lead to loss of sensation in hands and feet. One may also experience burning pain in legs, feet, arms and hands. Many men, above the age of 50 and older with diabetes may experience some degree of sexual dysfunction from damage to the nerves that help produce an erection.

– Swollen and tender gums – Diabetes increases the risk of infection in gums and in the bones that hold teeth in place. One may also develop sores or pockets of pus in gums.

– Frequent yeast infections.

– Velvety dark skin changes of the neck, armpit and groin, called acanthosis nigricans.

– Numbness and tingling of the hands and feet

– Impotency

Diabetes sometimes goes unconscious early, because people usually think they are urinating more, simply because they are drinking more. It is better to get itself checked by a doctor before one starts restricting his fluid intake.
If one has any of these symptoms, contact a professional doctor right away to be tested. Even people with pre-diabetes can have an increased risk from heart disease as seen in people with diabetes.

How to Get Approved For an Apartment Even With a Criminal Record

One of the most frustrating episodes ones can encounter is a denial of housing. Apartment complexes, which in reality are run by real estate management firms, use a number of factors to determine who should rent and who should not. One of the most common factors that they use is criminal background check. A criminal history can be one of the greatest huddles one can ever come across in the process of renting an apartment.

The reason apartment communities request a criminal background check is first of all for the safety of the overall community. There is a general consensus that people with violent pasts are bound to fall back into their previous destructive habits. The concept of history repeats itself seems to be a prevailing belief in many places when it comes to criminal history and nowhere more so than in apartment leasing offices.

Another reason why apartment leasing offices conduct a criminal background check is so as to create the appearance of safety in the community and in so doing have the justification to charge more for rent. If a neighborhood or apartment housing community has a high level of crime, then tenants will not want to renew their leases and this means that there will be more housing units which are vacant and which the management has to fill (or risk being censored by the owner). The more housing units are vacant in an apartment community the more it hurts the management bottom line because this drives down the rent.

When conducting criminal background checks, apartments normally concentrate on felony convictions. Misdemeanor crimes which are only punishable by fines are generally not a concern. If you have a misdemeanor, you should not be concerned but if it is a felony you may get a denial.

There are two main ways to get an apartment approval if you have a criminal record. The first one is to check the nature of your offense and see whether you received what is called a deferred adjudication. This is a probation granted to first time offenders and is also known as community supervision. If you were convicted of a misdemeanor, and got probation, you can go to the county clerk’s office and request for what is called a court deposition. This is a print-out that shows the offense, the court that heard the case, and the judgment that was rendered and the fact that you have deferred adjudication. The printout also states that you have successfully completed the community service without any other incidences and that you should not be discriminated against when it comes to services. You can take a copy of this document to an apartment manager and in most cases they will approve you.

Another way to get an apartment is to get an expungement. This is the sealing of your criminal records and can be done depending on whether you’re eligible. There is an excellent eBook out in the market regarding how to get an apartment even with an existing criminal record and bad credit and you can get it at [http://www.simplecreditsecrets.net]

The Best Dry Skin Cream Product That Makes Skin Soft and Glowing!

Are you frustrated with trying to find the dry skin cream product that works to make your skin feel soft, supple and younger-looking? I was in the same boat, so I went on a search to find a body cream that would actually help with the embarrassing problem.

First off, dry skin may be caused by various factors: dry climate, aging (break down of collagen and elastin), too much sun and other environmental conditions. Whatever the cause, caring for your skin dry and moistless is very important but not very difficult! Skip the hype of the big brand products that have celebrities as the spokesperson, because when you understand and learn about the ingredients that are contained in a cream for dry skin you save money and discover what really works. How so?

Take for instance products that contain harsh chemicals – terrible for your skin. Harsh chemical ingredients like: mineral oil, a byproduct of petrolium production used as a cheap filler, even though it feels like it's adding moisturizer to you dry skin, it interferes with perspiration, clogs pores and does not allow skin to eliminate toxins; and, alcohol (names like ethyl alcohol or benzyl alcohol) just dry out and irritate skin not help your dry skin problem. Yes, all those dry skin cream products that are advertised telling you they add collagen back into your skin … just do not cut it. No matter how much you apply the cream, it does not absorb deep enough into the skin to stay on and moisturize the skin.

Collagen and elastin are important proteins in our body. In our younger years, both proteins were abundant and responsible for our skin to be soft, supple, pliant and smooth. However, here's what the advertisement did not tell you – collagen is insignificant in skin care products because it's too large a molecule to penetrate the epidermis.

Now that you know what ingredients make skin dry and are a waste of money, let's look at a natural ingredient found in the best dry skin cream product that makes your skin soft, glowing and youngger-looking.

If you want the best and most effective skin cream to help your dry skin, look for an ingredient called Cynergy TK . Developed in New Zealand, this ingredient contains proteins (extracted from the wool of sheep) that are very similar to the human skin's own protein. This amazing ingredient boosts the production of the body's natural collagen and elastin thus improving firmness and elasticity, increases production of new skin cells and hydrates the skin. Clinical studies (using human volunteers) has shown to improve skin moisture by over 20% and improve skin moisture retention by 14%.

Home Made Vacations

Who told you that a great vacation is hundreds of miles away? Who told you that a good time gotta cost a lot of money? Who told you that you can’t have a luxurious vacation without booking a flight, securing hotel reservations, getting a car rental, or packing up a suitcase? Because that’s all lies! You can do it! The magic word? STAYCATION!

But, what is a staycation, anyway?

Umm… I’m so glad you asked, Mr. Bear! Because, boy have I got some honey for you!

A staycation is simply a home vacation! That’s right! Instead of taking the girl to the country, we’re gonna bring the country to the girl! Right in the living room too!

Don’t you know that the possibilities are truly endless!

You can go camping, right in the living room! We can sleep in the woods, right from the back bedroom! We can even make the entire sun disappear by covering every single window and door crack up with dark bags and tape! We can sit around a makeshift fire in our little campsite (using a ceramic heater) and enjoy marshmallow smores!

Or, we can turn the house into a luxury vacation home! We can hang fancy drapes up around the house, and breakout our finest dish wear! Let’s get fancy! Cover the table with a nice-looking tablecloth and get some accent candles to match it!

We can literally go anywhere in the world simply by dressing the house up accordingly! We only need a little bit of creativity.

The key to a great staycation is being in the spirit and having the right type of focus in place. We gotta make up our minds that we are going to play by the rules, and we are going to commit to having a good old time!

Get the furniture out of the way. If we’re going for an outdoor thing, then we want to get rid of as much furniture as possible. But, where would we put everything?

Well, if you have an extra room, we can move everything to that one single room and then close it off. We should disassemble things like the end tables and the furniture that comes apart easily. We don’t need to disassemble the entertainment center, but we can just drape a thick cloth over it instead.

We want to have as much open space as we can.

It’s best to create a schedule to follow, because without this, then we will be tempted to get back into our regular home routine. We should consider closing off the kitchen too. We want the house to feel different and out of the normal setting.

If we are going for an upscale staycation, then we would instead work to fancy the house up a bit.

We should consider moving a few pieces around too. Because, this would add to the change of feeling in the house.

Be sure to turn off and unplug all TV’s if we’re going the outdoor thing. But, if we’re doing upscale, then why not bring the bigger speakers out?

If we are doing a staycation with the kids, we only gotta be a bit creative.

Kids will generally follow your lead, so as long as you remain in the mood, they will play along.

Unplug your phone and turn off your cell phone for privacy and peace.

If you have the bigger room, then consider switching things up with the kids! That’s right! Give them the bigger room, and let them have your bed too! You can just turn the mattress over for them.

The idea is to truly change things up a bit so the house again, feels different.

Make sure you get some scented oils for the tub. Aroma therapy will greatly enhance the atmosphere of the home and the fresh earthly or fruity scents will linger on and on.

Consider changing up the meal agenda. Try preparing something that you don’t do too often.

If you’re going outdoor, then go for non-meat. Or, fish if that. If you’re doing upscale, then go for the high-quality plates and silver wear. The heavier feel will make the meal taste even better!

Ignore the doors and the neighbors. But, before you go on your staycation, just tell your neighbors and everyone else that you’re going on a staycation! So, while you might seem like you’re home, you’re not! Explain this to them, and then stick to your guns!

Try going out at times that you don’t generally leave the house. You want to make sure that things are not business as usual.

Get some board games for the kids, and a few good books to read. This is the perfect time to sit down as a family unit and do some reading or getting reacquainted with each other.

Also, if the house needs anything new and major, this might be the perfect time to take full advantage! For example, if you wanted to paint the living room.

Anything is totally possible! You don’t need to spend countless dollars to go on a great vacation, because you can do it all from the comfort and convenience

Peanut Allergy – What You Need To Know

The peanut problem continues to grow and that's partly a result of peanuts being a cheap source of dietary protein. At one time it was mainly found in peanut butter but because it is so cheap it is used in many different products. Since there are so many people suffering from a peanut allergy here's what you need to know.

The problem is as much about it being used in so many products. Rather it is about the labeling and how difficult it is to recognize that there are peanuts in it. Sometimes it is marked as hydrolyzed vegetable protein. Other times as ground nuts. It's important to understand that a peanut allergy will not go away. In fact as you age it could get worse.

Most of us know about a peanut allergy because it gets so much attention for its seriousness with anaphylactic shock reaction. The peanut allergy can move really quickly and occasionally in just minutes it can prove fatal.

A peanut allergy needs to be treated with epinephrine immediately when the first signs of a reaction. After administrating the epinephrine you still must monitor as the reaction can re-occur and another shot will have to be administrated.

Possible symptoms of an allergic reaction may include the following which are not listed in any specific order:

1. sense of foreboding, apprehension or fear

2. flushed face, hives, swollen or itchy lips, mouth, eyes, or tongue

3. tightness in chest, throat, or mouth,

4. difficulty breathing or swallowing, wheezing, drooling, coughing, choking, running nose, voice change

5. vomiting ,, stomach pains, nausea, diarrhea

6. dizziness, sudden fatigue, rapid heartbeat, unsteadiness, chills

7. loss of consciousness, coma, death

There are many factors which contribute to peanuts causing a fatal reaction.

1. Improper Labeling – sadly even though this allergy can be so deadly packaging labeling is still insufficient.

2. Lack of understanding by schools that serve food and restaurants who do not properly notify customers of a peanut possibility.

3. Nuts marked incorrectly with peanuts being sold as some other type of nut.

4. Failure to carefully read the labels.

5. Failure to inquire at restaurants and places where a problem may arise.

6. Sharing food or utensils that can cross contaminate.

7. Kissing someone that has been eating peanut products.

8. Failure to understand that a very small amount of peanuts can kill.

9. Denial of symptoms that you have a peanut allergy.

10. Not wearing a medical bracelet identifying your allergy.

Thankfully there is a treatment that works well for a serious allergy. But problems still occur which can be fatal. Epinephrine or your Epi-Pen may be outdated. Sometimes a person will wait too long to take their epinephrine. Another problem is not having a second dose of epinephrine with you. Allergy sufferers often carry one pen. Another problem is failure to report to emergency after taking epinephrine. All of these issues may be little if the allergy was not so serious.

Living with a peanut allergy is like living with any allergy or illness. The big difference is the seriousness of the peanut allergy. Make sure you understand and make appropriate lifestyle changes.

What Are The Non Medication Treatments For Depression In Bipolar?

It is a common question among bipolar sufferers and their loved ones. What are non-medication treatments for depression in bipolar? Are there any? Popular belief is that bipolar disorder can only be controlled by a lifetime period of strong medication.

The answer to the question is a resounding yes. Several non-medication approaches have now been shown to be of benefit when added to the conventional medications for depression in bipolar. Mood stabilizer tactics and therapies are now emerging and being slowly embroced by some mental health practitioners. Regulation daily schedules and patterns of sleep, using light therapy and implementing regular exercise programs are now included as treatments for some bipolar patients.

Maintain a regular daily schedule .

One approach that is crucial for some patients with bipolar disorder is to maintain a regular daily schedule, especially regular patterns of sleep. One such therapy is organized around the daily schedule idea, in particular having a regular time to go to sleep , and a regular time to wake up and get out of bed.

Light Therapy .

A recent study in Canada showed that approximately 100 patients with winter affective depression were randomly assigned to Prozac or a standard light box. There was equal improvement in both groups, with the light box marginally faster in lowering depression scores. This means that the light therapy is as good as the standard antidepressant approach, but has fewer side effects and less overall risk.

If you're not familiar with light therapy, basically one sets in front of a box the size of a small suitcase (smaller ones now available) which emits a lot of light, for about 30 minutes to start, and as little as 15 minutes or less later to stay well through the winter.

Regular Exercise .

The data showing that exercise can actually treat depression has been pretty good for a long while. It is well documented that depression can cause brain shrinkage, and that effective treatments can stop and at least partially reverse that shrinkage. A recent study research team at the University of Illinois compared people with an average age of 67 who were physically active to those who were less active.

The results showed that the active elders had better mental skills and memory, and even that their brains were more active as well. They then did the crucial follow-up test: they divided a group of elders into two groups, one which participated in an aerobic exercise program, and one which did not. They have found that the group which exercised increased their brain size compared to the sedentary control group, in the brain regions which are known to shrink when people have mood problems. Extrapolating just slightly from these results, we now have preliminary evidence that exercise, like other effective antidepressants, can reverse brain shrinkage.

Although it may be difficult for a depressed person to think about exercising, even a regular walk can have the desired effect. Most people, though depressed, can still walk. Walking has the absolute best record for easy access. The Harvard Bipolar Program leader, Dr. Sachs, says "here's your exercise program: go to the door, look at your watch. Walk 7.5 minutes in any direction, then turn around and walk home. And that's it.

Specialized Psychotherapies For Bipolar .

In April 2007 a major research program published their results showing that when the three psychotherapies listed below were added to mood stabilizer treatment for bipolar patients experiencing significant depression, the patients reclaimed more quickly and more were likely to stay well.

o Bipolar-specific cognitive behavioral therapy

o Interpersonal therapy with social rhythm therapy

o Family-focused therapy (for patients with family who could join in treatment)

The problem is finding a therapist who can provide one of these treatments. Currently, these psychotherapies are primarily found in large treatment programs that have adopted one or more of the new methods. For those interested in sourcing a sympathetic therapist, the internet is a good place to start.

There is no doubt that the non medication treatments for depression in bipolar are making a difference to the quality of life for some bipolar sufferers. They are able to wean off high doses of antidepressants, and also benefit from the positive side effects of good sleep patterns, exercise and light therapy.

History Of The Guava

The early Spanish explorers of the 1500’s found Strawberry Guava, ‘Acca sellowiana O.,’ growing as a native tree in America, where they were firmly established from Mexico southward to Peru. History records that Seminole Indians were growing guava trees in Northern Florida in 1816.

Strawberry Guava, ‘Acca sellowiana O.,’ can grow into trees 25 feet tall and frequently they are planted by homeowners as a privacy hedge that is easily trimmed or grown as an untrimmed windbreak. The guava tree can be trained to single or multiple trunks by pruning and will grow into an excellent specimen plant that is covered with exotic flowers during late spring. The wood is gray in color, and the grain is very hard and dense. The leaves are small, distinctly colored flat green, making the plants easily recognized at a distance.

The guava tree or shrub is slow growing and requires the planting of two plants for cross-pollination. The tree is cold hardy to 15 degrees Fahrenheit and is salt water tolerant. Bees and hummingbirds visit the red and yellow flowers, and the pollination visits result in a heavy fruit set.

The guava fruit is classified as a berry by most botanists, and it occurs in clusters with individual berries in sizes just under one inch. Each guava berry is covered by a rough rind and the pulp inside occurs in colors of white, pink, or red.

The guava tree grows best in partial shade in acidic soils. The plants are virtually disease free, and the fruit is usually harvested by shaking off the mature guavas when the color change occurs, then, they are collected onto sheets or tarps. The fruit will keep well in a refrigerator up to a week and can be peeled and eaten as fresh fruit, as a dessert, or in salads. If the fruit is dipped into diluted lemon juice, the color of the pulp will remain bright.

The fruit is commercially made into puddings, pies, juices, and jellies, and is a rich source of Vitamin A and C, as well as many beneficial minerals. The guava is grown commercially in Florida and California, and in many southern forests the shrub has become naturalized and mistaken as a native historical plant

“Guavaween” is a traditional central Florida event and fund raiser that is held every year to celebrate the advent of the guava corresponding to parades and festivals that are scheduled near Halloween at holidays Ybor City, Florida, an outskirt of Tampa, Florida. This “Guavaween” event is celebrated during the last of October each year.

There are many kinds of guavas; one tropical guava, ‘Psidium guajava L.,’ is an important crop in Hawaii, with fruit production exceeding 15 million pounds per year. These guava fruits are technically considered to be berries, and the trees grow in the wild on the island of Kuawai as a native plant. Before harvesting, the plants are vigorously pruned, fertilized, and irrigated. Fresh vigorous shoots grow in response to the pruning, and the delicious fruit forms within the flowers that mature on the new wood to form guavas and require about seven months to fully develop.

Most travelers to Florida last century will remember the many tourist stops on U.S. Highway #1 and U.S. 41 that have now been transformed into interstate highways I-1 and I-75. Tourist shops such as “Stuckeys” were loaded with souvenirs such as pecan logs. One of the most memorable items displayed for sale was guava jelly, jam, paste, or any other conceivable product that involved the use of the magical fruit of the guava tree. All these little jars of jelly and other guava products were visually stunning to the eye, revealing their contents in colors of mint green, red, yellow, and blue.

How to Deal With Panic Attacks and General Anxiety – 3 Proven Methods That Really Work

Learning how to deal with panic attacks is not as difficult as one might first envision.  Although the onset of panic attacks might be alarming and terrifying, dealing with panic attacks is a relatively simple endeavor in the majority of cases.  In fact, there are three proven methods for dealing with attacks that really work.

Proven Methods of Coping

  • Anger Management
  • Hypnosis
  • Therapy

Method #1: Managing Your Anger

How can managing your anger serve as a method for learning how to deal with panic attacks?  In truth, when you have buried anger it can bring on bouts of anxiety and, in turn, encourages the onset of an attack.

Anger is a seriously powerful and sometimes vicious emotion, and unexpressed angry feelings have a number of equally powerful bodily effects.  Increases in one’s heart rate, blood pressure levels, and stress are merely a start in terms of the influence that unexpressed anger has on an individual.  The latter bodily responses are associated with anxiety, bouts of minor and/or major depression, and panic.  Thus, when you learn to manage unexpressed anger, you can simultaneously fend off potential anxiety attacks.

How can you successfully deal with angry, unexpressed emotions?  Meditating, emotional diversions, slowed breathing techniques, and self talk that is positive in nature are methods for managing anger related issues.  You also have the alternative of expressing your angry feelings in a positive, constructive way in order to finally release pent up emotions.  Finally, some assertiveness training can also prove amazingly helpful.

Method #2: Hypnosis Sessions

Undergoing hypnosis is one way that many people learn how to deal with panic attacks.  When visiting a hypnotist, an individual is guided into a deep state of altered awareness and intense relaxation.

The benefits of using hypnosis to manage panic attacks and anxiety are two-fold; first, the individual is repeatedly guided into states of calm, tranquil, relaxation, and secondly, the individual gets the opportunity to explore some of the potential causes for attacks while in a hypnotic state.  Once potential causes for attacks are identified, the causes can be addressed further and treated accordingly.

Method #3: Therapy and Counseling Services

One of the most effective methods for how to deal with panic attacks includes the use of counseling services and therapy.  During therapeutic sessions and individual can begin to dig deep into his or her subconscious and to explore potential causes for the anxiety being experienced.  Trained counselors can also help the individual talk through issues, to discover solutions, and also offer suggestions on how to implement necessary solutions.

Finally, counseling can be coupled with assertiveness training and hypnosis if necessary in order to give the individual an optimal treatment plan for anxiety related problems.

Examining Childhood Insomnia

Sadly sometimes children are faced with medical problems usually associated with adults and adult behavior, While the age difference between children and adults can be substantial, the negative impacts can be as severe with a child as it is with an adult. Sometimes the child's negative impact can be more dramatic and harmful than the adults.

The effects of insomnia in children can be quite dramatic. There are a number of residual effects with a child that suffers from bouts of insomnia. These effects can make the child's life very difficult. Difficulty in school, an inability to maintain a social life and a host of other problems can result from a poor night's sleep. Treatment for insomnia in children always starts with a proper diagnosis. A proper diagnosis leads to effective proper treatment. There are lots of conditions that could lead to the insomnia. As with many disorders, there is an unfortunate standby for parents to downplay a potentially serious condition that is in fact quite serious.

Ascertaining a Proper Diagnosis of Insomnia in Children

Most people will have to deal with insomnia at one point or another within their lifetime. If the insomnia becomes continuous, that may indicate a serious under condition. Parents must take the insomnia in a child seriously. If it is not taken seriously, then a proper diagnosis can not be made and without a proper diagnosis, proper treatment can not take place. This does not help the child and may, in fact, lead to a worsening of the underlining condition.

Insomnia in Children and the Parent's Role

If you as a parent notice the presence of insomnia in children, it is your responsibility to make sure the condition is treated properly. In your primary role as caregiver you must not neglect this responsibility. Neglecting the condition will not help and in fact can make it worse. The ramifications can be dire.

As a parent you must not ignore potentially serious conditions and while insomnia may not seem like a serious condition, it can be. A wonderful analysis of a problem by an untrained person is not the way to go. Insomnia in children should be diagnosed and treated by a professional.
