Different Types of Rhinoplasty – Nose Jobs

Depending on the complexity of the surgery and the patient's nasal structure, one of three common techniques may be used: open rhinoplasty, closed rhinoplasty or tip plasty.

Open Rhinoplasty :

Open rhinoplasty is used for reducing the overall size of a large nose or when more access is required to re-sculpt the bone and cartilage. A small incision is made in the column between the nostrils (the columella ), allowing the nasal skin to be lifted back off the underlying structure of the nose and allows the plastic surgeon to have a clear view of the nasal anatomy. The bone and cartilage are then sculpted to create the desired shape and size of the nose and the nasal skin is then re-adhered.

Closed Rhinoplasty :

Using this procedure, several incisions are made inside the nostrils without lifting the nasal skin. The bone and cartilage of the nose are altered from within to achieve the desired contour of the nose. This procedure is usually performed when only minor changes are desired.

Tip Plasty:

This procedure is used when only the tip of the nose is to be surgically altered. The surgeon may use either the standard or open rhinoplasty to achieve the desired effect.

Alter Size and Shape: The surgery can alter the length and width of the bridge, span of the nostrils or change the angle between the nose and upper lip in order to achieve a nose size and shape that is more in harmony and balance with the patient's facial features.

Remove a Hump or Bump: One of the most common procedures is the removal of a hump or bump on the bridge of the nose to achieve a more aesthetic and smooth profile.

Refine the Tip: Another common procedure is to reshape the tip of the nose by removing and reshaping the cartilage to bring it more into balance with the size and shape of the nose and create greater definition.

Correct a Birth Defect or Relieve Chronic Breathing Problems: Rhinoplasty surgery can correct abnormally small nasal passages to improve breathing. Also, common birth defects such as crooked nose or separation of the bone, deviated septum or detracted cartilage can be corrected.

Consulting with a Board Certified plastic surgeon is the only sure way to know which Rhinoplasty technique will be used. Many times multiple techniques may be used to achieve the patient's desired result.

Why Posture Correctors Actually Make Your Posture Worse

Poor posture — an epidemic in 2010?

We all seem to be spending a higher percentage of our days hunched over our computers. Whether we’re at work, at the local Starbucks, or at home, most of us spend hours a day at a computer. Email and social media have become an integral part of our daily lives, and most of us are slouching while we’re at our computers.

To make matters worse, most of us are still spending significant time watching TV and driving, two activities where most people are not in ideal posture.

Remember you’re mother telling you to stand up straight? Well, think about today’s kids who are at a computer or playing video games for most of their days. Poor posture is rapidly becoming part of our culture and the negative effects go far beyond a sore neck and bad back.

Bad posture = poor health

People with poor posture suffer untold numbers of negative consequences. These can include obvious issues such as neck and back pain, misaligned spine, rounded, slumped shoulders, osteoporosis and arthritis. But it can also lead to less obvious side effects including decreased energy, poor organ function, abdominal discomfort, and scores of other problem.

Additionally, poor posture gives one the appearance of poor health, low self-esteem, and an overall lack of confidence.

Posture corrective braces, the miracle cure?

Traditional posture braces come in various sizes, materials and configurations. From thin, elastic, over-the-shoulder posture bras, to Velcro vests and back braces made of surgical tubing, they all attempt to do the same thing: pull one’s shoulders back to maintain an upright stance and straight, correct posture. The problem with most posture braces is that they actually do put the user into correct posture. So why would that be a problem?

The problem with traditional posture braces is that they do the work for you. The passive nature of having one’s shoulders pulled back serves to weaken the back muscles, which actually worsens one’s posture over time, thus defeating the very purpose of using a posture correction brace.

Most people who have tried traditional posture braces have experienced the discomfort, the chafing under the arms, and the difficulty of use most devices offer, but most don’t realize that in the process of trying to improve one’s posture, the user could actually be causing long-term atrophy of the muscles in the back that are required for good posture.

What is Phacomorphic Glaucoma?

Phacomorphic glaucoma is type of angle closure glaucoma in which it occurs as a complication of mature large sized cataract. It occurs more common in old age people who have less access to eye care, so this condition will be ignored and also it can occur after trauma in which the cataract can become large with time.

With age, the size of cataract will increase in size in both the anterio-posterior level and equatorial level. The lens lies behind the iris and there is a space between the iris and the lens in which the aqueous will follow naturally from the posterior chamber to the anterior chamber through this space. As the size of the cataract increase, this space will gradually get smaller and aqueous outflow resistance will occur, leading to increase in intraocular pressure. Sometimes, this cataract will push on the iris leading to complete close of this space with sudden increase in intraocular pressure. This type of angle closure glaucoma is called pupillary block and it is an acute condition and can cause sever damage to the ocular structures if not treated as soon as possible.

The patient with phacomorphic glaucoma will come will see eye pain and headache with nausea and vomiting and on ocular examination there will be corneal edema due to high intraocular pressure which can reach 50 MmHg or even more. Also the anterior chamber will be due because the iris is pushed anteriorly by the large cataract. Also be examination, there will be large mature cataract and we can see touch between the cataract and the iris.

Treatment of this condition should be done by cataract surgery extraction but before this surgery, your eye doctor should decrease the intraocular pressure by antiglaucoma medicines which can be either eye drops, oral medications or sometimes with laser iridectomy which is a hole created by laser on the iris to allow the aqueous humor to flow from the posterior chamber to anterior chamber. Once the intraocular pressure is reduced, a cataract surgery should be done to extract the cataract and replace it with artificial intraocular lens.

Psychic Chat – The Top 5 Reasons to Check it Out!

Although some people do not really want to admit it, you might be surprised as to who and why they engage in psychic chat. This kind of chat or chat room activity is very much like a consulting with a psychic; only this time, a person is doing so via a virtual or online portal. Although this time and age, people boasts of technological advances and scientific progressions, there is still that gray area where the unexplained flourishes. Here, people with psychic abilities are doing brisk business catering to people who want their futures read, or their dreams interpreted, or even their past lives explored. If you are still trying to figure out what the hype is with psychic chat, here are the top 5 reasons why anyone should check it out.

1. Anonymity is the name of the game. It is a given fact that there are some people who may not want to advertise their "need" to consult with psychics. With the prevailing concept today of embarrassment and even shame, there are some people who do want to keep in touch with the mystical forces of this earth without really broadcasting it. A psychic chat room provides a secure place to do so, and the person can keep his identity and the occurring changes away from discriminating eyes.

2. Jumping from one dimension to another is easier online. Some people are still on their psychic exploration mode. This means that they are not yet sure as to what kind of psychic encounter they wish to engage in. There are those who prefer Tarot card readings, while others prefer more intuitive readings into repeating dreams (or nightmares) that they are having. Instead of paying for services that they might not need, chat rooms that allow communications with psychics is the best place to scout for for answers.

3. Speaking of communications, chat rooms and forums are also great places for other clients to hook up with other clients and exchange ideas as to what psychic website really works, as to what psychic gives the most accurate reading and what packages are worth investing in . This is also a great place to learn about possible scams and shams that one should never patronize.

4. Chat rooms like these are also simple but effective means of communicating with people per se. According to studies regarding the demographics of psychic chat rooms and forum halls, some clients engage in psychic conversations as a way of reaching out strains, with the intent of unloading some emotional or mental baggage. Similarly, similar chat rooms work with the same principle as telephone based help lines. The facelessness of the psychic on the other line helps keep that feeling of being "judged" by others at bay, making the client feel more secure, and suddenly open up with all his or her problems in life.

5. If you think chat rooms for psychic are only for psychic-client and client-client interaction, then you are wrong. Chat rooms like these are also great avenues for other psychics to socialize with like minded people. Novice psychic can pick up tips from veteran readers, and even ask for advice on the business side of this endeavor.

What is Myopia?

Narsightedness is caused by a refractive error in the eye and this occurs at times when the eye has a surplus of optical power lengthwise from the front to the back. As a result the eye projects the light rays from faraway objects to a mid point of the eye instead of onto the retina. Such images are perceived by the brain as blurry in appearance. When glasses or contact lenses are worn the problem is solved as the light is once again refracted in order to project the image to the place it belongs, on the retina.

In a similar way to which some people have larger hands than others, when the eye is larger or elongated, Myopia occurs. The condition is also considered to be hereditary and children born of two nearsighted parents have a 33% chance of developing the condition. For the most part, myopia tends to show itself in a hereditary way in children aged between 8 and 12 years. As the eyes grow there could well be a period of rapid changes until stabilization is reached in adulthood.

Performing close work may affect an already existing myopia condition but it will not simply appear in someone doing close work that does not already have it. Middle age often sees the onset of myopia and it is recognized as an early symptom of cataracts forming. It can also be an indication of the rare condition of keratoconus which makes the cornea of the eye change shape and become conical as well as a side effect of uncontrolled diabetes.

Whilst there are several other symptoms of nearsightness which may occur such as burning or tired eyes, headaches and a restricted tolerance to reading, these are not indicative of myopia being present as the only true symptom of myopia is the fact that objects in the distance tend to appear fuzzy. It's worth bearing in mind that when a youngster chooses to sit up close to the television, it does not necessarily mean he or she can not see it properly – it's simply a matter of personal choice.

The results of a new study suggest that children who spend more of their time out in the fresh air are less likely to have this condition than the ones who channel their energy into playing video games or looking at a computer or television screen.

Treatment for myopia is reliably straight and the problem can be effectively rectified with glasses or contact lenses. Children's eyes should be tested for any changes on an annual basis and adults need their eyes examined every two or three years if they have no reason to believe their eyes have altered since the last test took place.

These days more and more people are deciding on surgical correction such as using LASIK or PRK. LASIK works by making a flap in the cornea and by taking away a small piece of tissue prior to the flap being reattached. The eye can then focus again normally as the length of the eye from front to back is reduced.

As with any surgery being considered it is important to carry out some research into the possible or likely side effects before going ahead with the treatment.

Massage Therapy and Its Types

As the lifestyle of people is changing, so are their needs. Earlier, people used to live carefree life but with the change in times, the hustle bustle of city life has made it difficult for the common man to lead a healthy and satisfied life. Different types of tensions revolve around man and make him totally helpless. For relieving the burdens and tensions of life, people have now shifted to taking massage therapy. This therapy is a highly beneficial practice that involves the soothing and relieving of muscles and other tissues in the human body.

All About Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is also considered to be the best tension buster and in some cases this therapy is an integral part of the CAM or the complementary and alternative medicine. The term "massage therapy" does not only include the different practices and techniques that are used to soothe the senses of the patient, it also covers a large number of related procedures as well due to the fact that the massage therapy includes approximately 80 kinds of different therapies.

The main intent behind the massage therapy is to relax the muscles and tissues of the person thereby increasing the oxygen and blood delivery to the areas where massage has been performed and in turn decrease the level of pain suffered.

Various Kinds Of Therapies
The different types of massage therapies include the following:

Trigger point massage
In this type of massage therapy, the therapist uses different strokes of strong pressure in order to relax the trigger points or knots.

Swedish massage
Long strokes are given to the person along with muscle friction and kneading in order to make the joints flexible.

Deep tissue massage
Deep finger and hand pressure is given on the particular parts of the patient's body where the muscles and tissues are knotted or tight. Focus is paid on the muscle layers that are located deep inside the skin.

Shiatsu massage
In this kind of massage therapy, the professional applications rhythmic and varying pressures from his fingers on the body parts, which are critical for the vital energy flow.

This type of massage therapy is often known as the zone therapy and the main focus of the therapy is paid on the ears, hands and feet of the person. Foot reflexology is the more famous of the other two-reflexology therapies.

Thai massage
This is also called as the Thai yoga massage therapy and involves the unblocking of the energy pathways. In this kind of therapy, the person getting the massage remains completely clothed and the therapist begins to give the compression massage on the body parts that need special care. The patient is made to be placed in different yoga like postures in order to relax the muscles and soft tissues.

In all of the different types of massage therapies, the professional therapist rub, press and manipulate the soft tissues and muscles of the relevant person often varying the movement and pressure executed in the massage. The therapists use their fingers and hands but in some cases when there is a need to do stronger massages, even the elbows, feet and forearms can be used to treat the patient.

7 Keto DHEA – Why DHEA Might Be Important in 7 Keto DHEA Form

What is DHEA?

DHEA, or Dehydroepiandrosterone, is a naturally produced steroid often supplemented by athletes to improve their testosterone levels, allowing for fat loss, muscle gain, heightened energy, and increased libido. DHEA gained massive public appeal when average people looking to become more athletic, lose weight, or gain muscle discovered that it could do the same things for them.

Many fitness supplements throughout the 1990's and early 2000's used DHEA as part of their selling point. Numerous studies had come out detailing the effects of DHEA on all the athletic pursuits mentioned above, as well as a number of surprising positive benefits. Some of these included increased insulin production, better sex drive, improved mood, better memory, heightened levels of HDL "good" cholesterol, and various immune system benefits. Indeed, you can still see many DHEA supplements on the shelves in your local vitamin store – however, in recent years studies have surfaced showing the potential harm of DHEA.

DHEA has been shown to increase levels of certain sex hormones in the body – various powerful androgens and estrogens. These sex hormones regulate a number of important processes in the body, and their over supplementation has caused all sorts of unwanted side effects like excess facial hair (for both men and women), mood swings, hypergycemia, or even cancer growth within the body.

Why is 7 Keto DHEA better?

Luckily, scientists have developed a molecule nearly identical to DHEA, without its propensity for throwing off the body's natural hormone balance. Known as 7 Keto DHEA, it is a natural metabolite (breakdown product) of DHEA. This means that when you ingest DHEA, it is not actually DHEA that causes a lot of the desirable benefits you want. The body metabolizes DHEA into 7 Keto DHEA and various hormone enhancing compounds. By pre-metabolizing DHEA into 7 Keto DHEA and throwing out the unnecessary compounds, scientists can produce the exact same effects as DHEA, with none of the unwanted side effects.

What are some of the proven benefits of 7 Keto DHEA?

* Fat reduction
* Increased energy production
* Immune benefits – increase in anti-viral antibodies
* Effective treatment for muscle and weight loss for sufferers of HIV or wasting disease
* Improves HDL cholesterol, reduces risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke

There are a few important details regarding these benefits. First of all, fat reduction requires at least 200 mg per day to get weight loss results. This is only the minimum – some people take up to 1400 mg per day depending on their weight loss goals. Many supplement companies sell 7 Keto DHEA in capsules that only contain 50 to 100 mg each, requiring a daily minimum of two or four pills. The companies do not tell you this, because it is quite expensive to take 7 Keto DHEA at the required daily dosage. 7 Keto DHEA is actually exponentially higher in cost than pure DHEA as a supplement.

Also, the increased energy production can come at a cost. The reason energy production is increased is tied into 7 Keto DHEA's use as a weight loss product. DHEA does two things related to energy production: makes it easier for the body to metabolize fats into energy, and it makes the body less efficient at burning fat. This makes the body produce more energy by burning an exponentially greater amount of fat. This is great if you have a lot of fat you need to burn off, but if you do not have any fat on your body, 7 Keto DHEA can actually be a dangerous product. By making the body less efficient, you can actually experience an energy reduction.

Regardless of these details, the studies proving 7 Keto DHEA's effectiveness in these areas are unassailable.

Some other benefits of DHEA

This list comprises a number of benefits of DHEA that have been proven, but for which studies of 7 Keto DHEA have not yet been done:

* Decreases lupus symptoms like rashes, anemia, arthritis, and heart, lung, or kidney problems
* Better mood
* Increases libido, better sex drive
* Normalizes blood sugar, prevents diabetes
* Anti-aging – reverses tissue deterioration

While there are not any studies specifically on 7 Keto DHEA, these have been proved benefits of DHEA, its "mother" molecule. While it only makes sense that it would have similar benefits, one should be wary of websites or products that advertise it making claims of these benefits. Especially the heightened libido / sex drive claim is somewhat dubious, because it is not supposed to increase sex hormone levels.

Dangers of 7 Keto DHEA?

As mentioned above, if you do not have any fat to burn, DHEA can actually decrease your energy levels.

Also, studies have shown that it may actually decrease levels of sex hormone in the blood. This result is believable, because it does not increase them like pure DHEA does.

Regardless of these dangers, it is a powerful weight loss product that can be useful in a number of other areas in your life. Be sure to consult with your doctor or health professional before taking this or any other supplement. Research says if you supplement with 7 Keto DHEA you should consume 200mg per day.

How the Experts Find a Veterinarian Part 1

Your cat or kitten is relying on you to give him a good home and to provide him with the best care possible for his entire life. It is up to you to make sure that he receives all the necessary veterinary checkups and vaccinations. The best way to keep your cat healthy is to find a veterinarian who will help you every step of the way, through each stage of his life.

How do you find a veterinarian? If you have never owned a cat before, do not worry, finding a vet is easy. Ask everyone you know who has a cat which vet they use and how they like the service. After you have gotten several recommendations, call each practice and explain that you are looking for a vet for your cat. Ask the following questions:

– Is it a cat only clinic?

– Does the vet own cats?

– What are the clinic's regular hours? Does it offer night and weekend appointments?

– Is there a vet on call in case of an after hours emergency? (If not, what does the clinic recommend that you do with your pet?)

– What are the fees for office visits and vaccinations?

– What are the payment options?

Based on the answers you receive, you can either schedule an in person meeting with the vet or keep searching. Remember that the professional what you choose will be vital in maintaining the health of your cat. Take your time and find the right vet, not just any vet.

Once you have narrowed your choices down to two or three candidates, go to each office and talk to the staff, ask for a tour of the facility, and meet the vet (if possible). Bring a list of questions that you have about her experience with cats, and discuss her practice, what veterinary association she owns to, and if she also practices general animal care. Do not be shy about getting straight answers.

Ulcerative Disease and Crohn's Disease Diet

After being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, the first question you ask your physician is "is there there a cure for it?" He would probably tell you that there is no cure, but treatment (medications, surgery, etc.). These therapies, however, do not work for everyone. In fact, they can lead to complications in some patients. If you are one of those Crohn's or ulcerative colitis victims, do not be depressed; it exists diets and natural remedies that can effectively make your life less miserable.

It is, however, important to avoid all foods that trigger the symptoms of those diseases. Whenever it is possible, reduce the consumption of fatty food (fish oil and flax oil are, however, highly recommended): milk (and milk products), and fiber supplements; these products increase your stool volume and irritate the inflated intestines. Both Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis are chronic diseases; your diet must be healthy and non-irritating mainly consisting of natural products. These medical conditions may cause deficiencies in protein, vitamins (A, folic acid, B12, C, D, E and K) and certain minerals (calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium), an increase of these substances is highly recommended. Along with diet, certain herbs can also be taken:

German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) – German Chamomile has antispasmodic and analgesic properties. This plant has long been used in natural medicine against insomnia, digestion difficult (painful digestive spasms), and in the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders: diarrhea, stomach ulcers. German Chamomile is also used effectively in treating dyspepsia, swelling, flatulence, and more. No adverse effects have been reported.

Boswell (Boswellia serrata) – In traditional medicine, Boswell is used to treat fever, rheumatism, asthma and gastrointestinal problems. In addition, Boswell is shown to reduce inflammation of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune conditions by blocking the lethal pro-inflammatory enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). This remedy can be taken in capsule or tablet, three times per day; no negative effects have been reported.

Probiotics – Probiotics are non-pathogenic living microorganisms involved in the proper functioning of the digestive system. Lactobacillus acidophilus acidophilus is one of the Probiotics; it is beneficial for the health of the intestinal flora. Without these small organisms, intestinal flora can be infected by many disorders such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. You can buy probiotic dietary supplements on the internet or in any health store.

Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides (AMP) – this is the most effective supplement you can use to fight digestive disorders including ulcerative colitis disease and Crohn's disease. It has anti-inflammatory property, it regulate normal functioning of your intestine to prevent both diarrhea and constipation; it repairs the protective mucosa lining through the digestive system; it ensures healthy intestinal flora, and much more.

However, it is not easy to take all these supplements separately in a daily basis; you need an herbal remedy that combines all of them plus other ingredients. Our herbal remedies are safe and all natural made of Certified Organic Grown plants. They are 100% safe for children and adults of all ages and may be taken in conjunction with prescription medications with no incident of side effects. The Men's Health Taboo

In a previous article I spoke about my research for my new health information web site, and, of course, one thing that became familiar about people's health issues. In particular those 'hard' ever talked about annual prostate examinations and testicular cancer.

Men do not teach their sons about male health issues like women teach the daughters about female problems to watch for. In fact, it seems there is a taboo for men to speak naturally about any health issues between the thighs and the belly button.

And, heaven forbid if they have to teach their boys about examining their 'bits' like women have to regularly do breast examination for lumps.

And, in the issue of testicular cancer, it is a young man's cancer – so the imperative becomes critically important – yet, like discussing emotions, men, in general, shy away from such subjects.

There are all sorts of cultural, social and other excuses for the deplorable neglect of good health prevention practices among men, but in the long run they are simply hang ups mixed in with skewered ideas of what it is to be manly.

Youth, naturally, do not consider themselves vulnerable to death or injury, and older men need to provide the example. Especially in light of the fact that this cancer has one of the highest cure rates of all cancers.

As for annual prostate examinations – the embarassment factor increases by umpteen percent at the thought of digital rectal examination – so nothing is often done – yet early detection gives hugely increased chance of cure. The good news is that the PSA blood test is available and it at least should be a regular part of an annual check up for men over 40. PSA simply stands for Prostate Specific Antigen – a protein in men's blood used to screen for the cancer.

Education about preventive health care is an absolute necessity overall in our communities – the savings on the tax dollar alone are worth it.

More so for men is health education an imperative from an early age – preferably in schools and as part of normal family practice. And, it should include tests like the PSA so that as boys grow and mature they become accustomed to the normalcy of preventive health care and, the prostate (and testicular cancer) in particular.

Outdoor Mathematical Learning Through Syringes

Have you ever thought about increasing your kid's cognitive skills such as mathematical learning through outdoor play? You must have used different types of modular playground equipment to keep your kids active and healthy, but how about doing something different and teaching them mathematics through syringes? Unique, is not it?

Your kids might have used syringes for fun like water playing, as air pumps, or for mark making, but they must not have thought about learning mathematics through it. In this post, I am going to highlight how syringes can increase numerical learning and then list down five ways to use them in mathematical learning outdoors.

How Can Syringes Increase Numerical Learning?

Below is how a syringe can serve as a powerful tool in learning mathematics:

• The increasing capacity and different sizes of syringes are linked together. When kids get a hand on a syringe, they learn what their size is and how they can increase it, which, in turn, teaches them calculations.

• The divisions allow them to measure the smallest qualities that teach minor scales.

• All the capacities of a syringe are multiple of three-, 9, 12, … 60ml. It allows quick multiplication and makes your kids smart.

Ways to Use Syringes For Mathematical Learning

See the five ways on how to make the most of the syringes in teaching kids some numerical knowledge.

1. Measuring the Capacity
You can show the marks of syringes to your kids that are used to measure capacity. Teach them how to measure the exact quantity by reading the sub-marks and how to handle the syringe to ensure there is no air bubble inside.

2. Teach Distance Measurement
Since this is an outdoor activity, you can teach your kids the relationship between the distances you can pour water and the actual capacity of the syringe. This also helps in distance and capacity calculation.

3. What Does the Splattered Water Depends On?
Does the splattered water depend upon the syringe capacity or the angles and height at which it falls to the ground? Let your little one explore this on his own and see the angles and calculations he learns.

4. Make a Long Continuous Line and Measure it
It is a pretty challenging task, especially for kids who do not have mature motor coordination skills. Ask your kid to draw a long line without any interference in between, and then calculate the length. If you want the task to be more learning, ask him to calculate in both meters and centimeters.

5. Communicate Different Syringe Rules for Water Fight
Your kid's estimation skills will boost when you will make two teams for the water fight and allow each one to have different syringe sizes. Once you have communicated all the rules of the water fight, ask him which side is likely to win and why?

Finally, it is always a good idea to talk about the medical benefits of syringes. To create more awareness for your kids, ask them what will they do if they find a littered or used syringe on the ground? Correct them if they do not give a positive answer! Remember, there can be several options other than playing with different types of commercial playground equipment for fun and physical activities.

How To Treat And Prevent Scars

Scars are an inevitable part of living. A scar results when the skim repairs itself after being injured from an accident, illness, or surgery. Scarring is just a natural part of your body’s healing process. Depending on the severity of the wound, it usually takes a scar at least three months to dim. On the other hand, no scar fully disappears. Here are some of the ways that you can use to approach a scar.

Give it a good massage. After you have moisturized the scar, gently massage the tissue in circles, first clockwise, then counterclockwise, and then across. This will promote blood flow to the area and help to soften and break down the old scar tissue, promoting the growth of new and healthy tissue in its place.

Try not to move around. As much as possible, keep the injured skin mobilized because moving or rubbing increases the chances that the scar will become large and prominent. The same goes for any friction you expose the wound to. Try to protect the cut from any type of trauma that would re-injure the wound.

Keep your skin exposed to sunlight to a minimal. Scars do not change color as much as normal skin does when exposed to the sun. This, of course, makes them more visible every time you are exposed to the sun or sunburned. Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15 to block sun and reduce the differences in color between your normal skin and scar tissue. Clean the wound daily. You are more likely to form a scar if there is an infected wound. Clean the wound thoroughly daily with soap and water and then apply some form of antibiotic ointment.

Moisturize the scar. Depending on your condition, you can shrink the amount of scar tissue and its appearance by moisturizing the scar. There are over-the-counter dressings that contain silicon or a silicone derivative that can be applied directly over the scar. These dressings can be worn overnight and literally can shrink the scar tissue.

Keep the skin moist. If the skin is moist, you are in fact optimizing the environment for healing and for promoting healthy skin to grow over the wound. Therefore, a wound heals more effectively if it is kept moist, as opposed to keeping it exposed to the air and allowing it to dry. You may even apply some topical ointments and petroleum jelly and even cooking fat to the wound, which will keep the wound moist and expedite the healing process.

Try multivitamins, zinc, and beta-carotene. Use a multivitamin that contains about 500 to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C, between 200 to 400 international units (IU) for vitamin E, and up to 2,000 IU of beta-carotene. As for zinc, take about 15 milligrams. All these multi-vitamins, beta-carotene, and zinc boost the immune system and promote healing.

The Most Dreaded of All Biblical Diseases

You’ve seen it in the movies and it was terrifying. The most dreaded disease of Biblical times was Leprosy. We’ve all heard of the term “Leper Colony”. These were actual places where those with Leprosy were sent to live away from “normal” people. The Hebrew word for Leprosy and similar skin illnesses is tzara’at. Leprosy is rare today and is know by the name of the nineteenth-century doctor who isolated the microscopic cause of the ailment — Hansen’s Disease. The Bible takes a very dismal position on Leprosy and Lepers. It considers them both physical and spiritual outcasts from society. When the AIDS first became an epidemic there was hysteria and great overreaction towards those with HIV and with full-blown AIDS. They were considered by many to be virtually untouchable. This hysteria was akin to how Lepers were treated in Biblical times even though many types of Biblical Leprosy were curable skin diseases.

A significant difference between Leprosy and other ancient diseases is that Leprosy was treated by the Jewish priests of the day, know as the kohen. Why? the fear of the Leper was so great that he was unwelcome in any community, even the community where the healers of the time, the early physicians, lived. It was only the spiritual leader who was able to care for the Leper, keep him quarantined from the community and help him back to health. Also, Leprosy was seen, (as was most illnesses of the time) to be a punishment from God for some wrongdoing. It was the job of the priest to figure out what terrible sin had been committed to make God angry enough to send this terrible illness. Before medicine evolved to understand the microbial cause of many illnesses, it was thought that illness was a form of punishment for immoral behavior and it was a teachable moment in redemption for the sick person.

The ancient Hebrew writings of the Talmud speak to a number of moral crimes that are punished by Leprosy. These include slander or libel, bloodshed, lying, incest, arrogance, robbery and envy. The role of the priest was not that of a medical healer as it was a security guard of sorts, who made certain that the Leper was kept under strict quarantine. The process for determining if the infected individual indeed had the dreaded Leprosy was based on waiting. The priest would look at the symptoms and see if there were the telltale signs of Leprosy, which included a white discoloration of the body hair in the area of the skin infection. If the priest suspected Leprosy, the “patient” would be placed under quarantine for several days. If the infection healed or there was no further worsening of the affliction, he was kept under quarantine for one more week. After that time the patient was usually pronounced to be healed and he was free to return into the community. Of course, if the condition worsened and spread, the person was thought to have a serious case of Leprosy and was kept isolated for an indefinite period of time during which he was expected to fast and to pray in order to win back God’s favor and to become healed.

The book of Leviticus 14:2-8 detail the ritual that was used to purify the person inflicted with Leprosy who was thought to be cured. The ritual carried three distinct parts. The first part was used to cleanse the home of the Leper and was done by the priest while the Leper was still under quarantine. The priest would prepare a mixture of fresh water and blood from a bird. These two elements were thought to have purifying qualities during Biblical times. Into the mixture the priest would dip cedar wood, crimson cloth, and a second live bird. The Leper’s house was sprinkled with this preparation seven times. Then, the live bird was set free, symbolically carrying away the disease. The second phase of the purification ritual had the Leper washing his clothing, bathing and shaving. After seven days, the final phase of the ritual allowed the Leper to return to his home after once again bathing, shaving and laundering his clothes. On the eighth day the Leper would bring to the temple oil and a sheep for the sacrifice offering after which the Leper would be allowed to return to work and become a regular member back into the community.

Leprosy Today

Leprosy is caused by an infection of Mycobacterium bacteria, which is a similar strain to the bacteria that causes tuberculosis. About 250,000 new cases of Leprosy occur each year. About 60% of the cases of Leprosy now occur in India, mostly in the Northern part of India. Following India is Brazil, mostly in Northern Brazil, in areas of more extreme poverty. Brazil has about 11% of the Leprosy cases. The rest are scattered around the world in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Madagascar.

Leprosy is an airborne bacteria and the infection is contagious from the germs of an infected person being sent into the atmosphere by a cough or a sneeze. Leprosy is a very strong bacteria and can survive in an environment for up to a month, which is a very long time. Fortunately, most people have an immunity to this bacteria and will not contract the disease upon contact. The first signs of Leprosy is a loss of nerve function in the hands and feet. People will feel either a numbness in those areas of the body or feel a loss of functionality. One misconception about Leprosy is that your fingers and toes simply fall off from the disease. This is not true. What is more likely to happen is that these parts of the body become injured because of the loss of sensation and feeling.

Today, we have very strong antibiotics for treating leprosy. the primary antibiotic is Rifampicin, which is combined with other drugs for a long-term therapy which can list between 6 or 12 months. Rifampicin is only administered once a month and the additional medications, also antibiotics, are taken daily. The medication does provide a cure for Leprosy. However, the body provides its own response and inflammation can last beyond the treatment period and often has to be treated with steroid medications to bring down the inflammation.

Type 2 Diabetes – Diabetes And Fainting!

People with diabetes, Type 1 or Type 2, can tell you that there are times when their disease can cause them to feel really lousy. They may feel "out of sorts", have sudden mood swings, even feel grumpy or irritable. In fact, a diabetic can pretty much predict how they are going to feel if they eat certain foods that are not good for them, or their condition. But is it possible to actually fault at inconvenient moments from diabetes? In a way, yes, it is.

Fainting is, after all, a symptom of another condition. In other words, no one faints without an underlying reason. While there are many reasons why a non-diabetic would fault, there are also plenty of reasons why a diabetic would.

Hypoglycemia, or blood sugar that is unusually low is one. This can occur due to several reasons …

  • one, is from medication … people with Type 2 diabetes who are taking hypoglycemic agents. This can inadvertently drop blood sugar too low even though it is supposed to help the condition.
  • another way that will cause it to dip too low is from taking a higher dose of insulin than is needed.
  • a third is from taking too long between meals. People with diabetes need to be aware of the possibility of low blood sugar, especially when skipping a meal or during bouts of strenuous exercise, which can rapidly lower blood sugar levels.

Low blood sugar occurs much more frequently in people with Type 1 diabetes, which bodies do not produce any insulin. Striving for tight blood sugar control can also increase episodes of low blood sugar.

The brain needs glucose or sugar, just like the rest of the body. When it is reduced of it, blood pressure drops too low. This causes the brain to act by releasing more cortisol to help handle the stressful situation that has been created, and adrenaline to react to the situation. All of this together is more than the brain wants to deal with so it temporarily shuts down, causing the individual to faint.

On the other end of the spectrum is hyperglycemia, or sugar levels that are too high …

  • not taking insulin when it is needed can cause this,
  • so can eating too many of the wrong foods at one meal,
  • even certain medications can bring on a faining episode.

Fainting is just the first step in elevated levels. If the condition is not rectified, next coma coma, and then death.

Believe it or not an individual can fault from damaged nerves . How? Nerves are the communication highways from the brain to the rest of the body. If certain neurons become neurologically damaged, it is like interfering these signals from making their way through … much the same way a traffic accident stops the flow of traffic. Once this function is interrupted, part of the brain shuts off for a short while, and the individual faints.

While a faining episode might seem mild, it is no joking matter when the person is a diabetic. Those around them need to have a good idea about what caused the pain and seek medical help immediately.
