P90X Insanity Vs

So you decided to get yourself into prime shape. Good job, now must decide what kind of shape you desire. You must first ask yourself whether you want the body of a dedicated runner or a muscle maniac.

Cost

Initially, both programs cost the same ($ 119.85). However, if you decide to go with the P90X, you should be aware that you will also need to purchase some dumbbells and a pull up bar. Both of these are relatively cheap and necessary if you wish to focus on certain areas of you your body.

Focus

This is where the differences become most obvious. The P90X is designed to build muscle fast while improving cardiovascular health. Insanity will get you into top notch condition, but you will not be likely to acquire a six-pack. That does not mean that it is not just as effective as the P90X. It just means that it's focus is not muscle building. If your primary focus is weight loss than Insanity should be your choice because it burns the most calories.

Time

The P90X workouts will require anywhere from 45 to 75 minutes per day for 90 days. You will see dramatic results if you stick to the workouts and follow the Nutritional Plan.

Insanity requires less time, but that does not mean that it is less effective. If you follow the plan, you will be committed to 40 minutes workouts for 60 days.

I hope this gives you a simple yet knowledgeable understanding of the two programs. Whichever one you decide on, I am sure that it will bring the results that you desire. Good Luck!

Constipation – Why Exercise And Water Are NOT Giving You Relief – What Most Doctors Do Not Know

It’s so frustrating! You’ve increased your exercise routine and water intake, but so far, it’s not helping your constipation.

Why not? After all, it makes sense that exercise and water would help your digestive system move better.

But the fact is, while exercise and water are vital for overall health, they are unsuccessful as constipation-relievers for more folks than you may imagine.

Before I give you some relieving tips, and tell you how you can learn the biggest mistakes you’re making when you eat, let me reveal the real problem.

What’s going on?

Constipation is more than just a slow-moving digestive system. It’s an issue rooted more deeply, at the cellular level.

The early stages of constipation begin when you do not chew your food thoroughly enough. When you don’t chew thoroughly, your saliva doesn’t interact with your food long enough to initiate carbohydrate digestion.

You see, digestion begins in the mouth, and saliva is the first step of the digestive process. When you swallow food before it’s adequately chewed, you place an extra burden on your stomach and pancreas. This sets the stage for constipation, excessive gas, burping, painful bloating, and a host of other digestive complications.

There’s something else happening!

There’s a second reason why inadequate chewing leads to constipation- and sadly, it’s a reason about which many doctors are ignorant. It has to do with hydrochloric acid production.

Once you swallow your food, your stomach receives “HCl”, or Hydrochloric Acid, from your blood. It takes approximately 1 hour for your stomach to receive enough HCl. HCl is extremely acidic, and vitally necessary in the digestive process.

Once the appropriate pH level in the stomach is reached, your body can now accomplish two essential tasks:

1. Protein digestion

2. Mineral absorption

Now, here’s the problem: if your digestive process is compromised, then minerals from your food are inadequately absorbed for use in the body. One of these minerals is sodium.

Why is sodium so important? Sodium is a key player in the formation of bile, a substance that allows you to move your bowels smoothly. Perhaps you have heard the term, “bile salts”.

If you’re not absorbing sodium, your bile will be too thick, and you’ll become constipated. The thicker your bile, the worse your constipation!

So, if your stomach is already exhausted and your digestive organs are stressed because you’re swallowing your food in chunks, can you be at all surprised that the production of HCl in your stomach is also faulty?

An incredible amount of your stomach’s energy is wasted by cleaning up large portions of unchewed food strains. When this occurs, HCl production will be compromised, you will not properly absorb your food’s minerals, you will not absorb enough sodium, your bile will be too thick, and you’ll become constipated.

Phew!

So, does this mean you should eat more salt? NO!

Consuming more salt in your diet is NOT the answer. The answer begins with chewing more thoroughly. Without the added burden of digesting big chunks of food, your digestive system will have a better success rate of absorbing the sodium it needs from the food you’re already eating.

Your bile will be the correct thickness, and your bowels will move more regularly.

“Besides chewing better, what else can I do to get faster constipation relief?”

Start with these 5 steps:

1. Consume three servings per day of raw, organic fruits and vegetables. They must be raw! Raw produce supplies your body with digestive enzymes necessary to help digest your food.

2. Decrease your intake of red meat, chicken or turkey. Meat is devoid of fiber.

3. Ever heard of “hempseed”? It’s a tremendous source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and it keeps your digestive system moving. Add a TBSP into your cereal or smoothies each day. Visit your local health food store- one of the more popular brands is “Nutiva”.

4. Because the G.I. tract and brain are closely linked, do your best to decrease emotional stress. Emotional stress aggravates symptoms of constipation. Eat in a calm environment.

5. Make sure you consume at least 25-30 grams of fiber per day. But don’t be fooled . . . some of the foods you think are high-fiber may actually be low-fiber, so be sure to make the right choices.

Last but certainly not least . . . STOP making these mistakes!

Even the most health-conscious folks are making mistakes every time they eat, that are making their digestive problems worse. To summarize the most important points for you, I’ve written a FREE report, called “The 5 Mistakes You’re Making Every Time You Eat!”

We’ve briefly touched upon one or two ideas, but if you want faster constipation relief, you’ll certainly want all of this information. Get your FREE copy right now by clicking here: thedigestiondoctor.com/smartdigestion [http://www.thedigestiondoctor.com/smartdigestion]

How to Reduce Fibrin in the Blood

Fibrin accumulation in the blood vessels may be a common disease among middle aged people but is nevertheless fatal causing heart attacks, arterial blockages, blood clot formation inside blood vessels and thickening of arterial walls thus causing high blood pressure.

The conditions like fibromyalgia, joint pain, inflammation etc brought about by the presence of excess fibrin should not be treated with pain killers. Pain killers will only help reduce the pain but do not assist in the healing process. Contrastingly, proteolytic enzymes act as the primary defense for bodies facing a chronic disease condition. It heals the body by acting upon the fibrin and thus reduces the symptoms like soreness and inflammation related to the presence of excess fibrin or thickening of the walls of the blood vessels. Also, it helps eliminate any trace of a chronic condition like joint pain or inflammation.

Most drugs are prescribed to suppress the symptoms and to cure the diseases temporarily without considering the real reason behind this. Since there are practically very less number of supplements available in the market for thinning the blood and breaking down excess of this insoluble blood protein, the natural and inexpensive way to decrease blood fibrin is to take some natural foods regularly. Here are some fruits and food substances that help thin the blood and surprisingly with no side effects. Take a look at these easy to access food items.

Pineapple & Papaya

The acidic fruits like Pineapple and Papaya are effective clot busters. An active enzyme bromelain present in the fruits not only digests the insoluble excess protein in the blood but also reduces cholesterol levels and reduces the soreness, joint pain and inflammation caused due to excess fibrin. Since bromelain includes fibrin’s natural enemy plasmin, the intake of this enzyme prevents platelets from adhering to each other as the Prothrombin cannot be converted to thrombin in the absence of fibrin protein.

Apple

Apple does not directly dissolve the blood clot. However, a complex compound Quercetin 3 rutinoside present in this fruit prevents the precursory compound fibrinogen thus preventing the formation of the insoluble protein fibrin. IT is also known to reduce the chances of DVT, deep vein thrombosis which ultimately break down and gets deposited in the liver thus causing pulmonary thrombosis which can be fatal if not treated immediately.

Natto

This particular Japanese staple is not exactly a favorite among people owing to its slimy appearance and pungent odor. However, the Japanese cuisine which is actually made from fermented soya bean is rich in the highly effective enzyme called Nattokinase. This enzyme not only breaks down the existing blood clots, but also prevents new ones from forming. Guess you need to give a second chance to this gooey substance.

For those who cannot afford to take in this food item or are allergic to it, Trevinol, a food supplement for reducing inflammatory symptoms and reducing fibrin levels can be the perfect substitute. Trevinol is rich in the Nattokinase which proves helpful in eliminating the chances of reproduction exces fibrin or thickening of the blood and also supplies probiotics to the body for a more functional immune system.

Hope Chests – One Would Be a Nostalgic Selection

Back when some of our mothers were teenagers who dreamed of having a hope chest. This was generally a cedar chest that would hold all of the things that they needed for married life. In this chest was the young girl's valuables and it was often part of their dowry. This was something that was given as a special gift.

The hope chest was also made out of cedar because it contained the linens, quilts and sometimes a bridal gown that was passed to the daughter and cedar keep away bugs and fungus; it also added a pleasant smell to the items put into it.

Today hope chests are usually not given as a privilege before marriage but they will keep similar things. As an example, many woman and young girls use them for keepsakes from childhood. Some will use them in their first apartment as a decoration.

The other way that these have changed is that they are not only for girls today. Boys and men also use them as ways to keep special things from childhood, keep special clothing in or to keep important papers. The point is that these are great pieces of furniture that have a variety of uses.

Also, hope chests still come in cedar, but you also have the choice of wicker and wood. Some have a cushion on top for sitting and can come with casters. This is a very important part of being able to move them around.

One of the nice things about a hope chest is it has a sturdy design. There are a variety of finishes you can choose and they can contain scroll work or other decorative designs.

Uses for Hope Chests– besides the uses we have already described here are some other uses for hope chests:

As a place to store blankets –many people use them in the bedroom or living room as a place to store extra blankets.

Give to your daughter – even though it looks old fashioned you can give your daughter a hope chest in the traditional way. A couple of ideas for what to put into it would be baby pictures or albums or homemade keepsakes.

Give one to your son – if your son is going away to college or getting his first apartment this is a good sturdy chest to give him for special things from home.

As a decorative piece – many hope chests make beautiful decorative pieces in hallways or other small rooms.

Types of Hope Chests
In the past you had one or two styles of hope chests to choose from and they were generally in yellow because this was the color of cedar. Today, there are a variety of styles and colors. The type you choose will be a matter of choice.

Shopping for a hope chest is easy because there are hundreds of websites online. You can find many in some of the more contemporary furniture stores and you may even find some of the older ones at garage or estate sales.

How To Read Jewelry Marks

The number markings on precious gold jewelry are a bit of confusion to lots of people. We are generally used to seeing a karat or silver mark like this: 10K, 14K, 18K, Sterling, etc. The numbers mean the same thing.

For 14k the number is technically 583 but most manufacturers adopted the European way and make 14k gold a tiny bit over 14k, so the mark is 585 in most 14k jewelry. 18K is marked 750. If the mark is valid and there is a makers mark also in the jewelry, the number means these items are 18k gold.

Here is where the numbers come from. Pure gold is called 24 karat. For 18k gold, there are 18 parts of pure gold mixed with other metals to make the metal suitable for use in jewelry. 24k is too soft alone to stand up or to hold stones well. 18 parts pure gold divided by 24, or 18/24 equals 750. That is where the number comes from. The jewelry is 75% pure gold, 750 parts gold with 250 parts other metals out of “1000” parts. It is easier to think of it as a percent which is pure gold in the recipe.

Sterling silver is marked 925. Sterling is 92.5% pure silver and the rest is other metal, generally copper.

What does it mean if the ring marked 14K PR? The 14K simply means it is 14K (Karat) gold and because of the K means it would have been made in either South East Asia or The United States. The PR marks are just the Maker or Store ID or even a design mark, and have no relevance to the Value.

The basic decimal formula to work out the quality of gold content is quite simple, as they are all measured in ‘Parts per Thousand.’ This means that 9ct gold is calculated like this: 9 (for 9ct) is divided by pure gold (24) and then multiplied by 1000 (for pure gold as a decimal). ie: 9/24*1000=375 That 375 is the decimal quality for 9ct gold and is sometimes shown with a decimal point in front – .375

The old Victorian standard of 15ct gold is calculated the same way – 15/24*1000 = 625 (Not quite the numbers you have on your jewelry. Dental gold is 16ct or 666 recurring. But you can also reverse this formula by starting with the decimal and working back. ie: 375/1000*24 = 9

In your case we can use 698/1000*24 = almost 17ct

I have a platinum engagement ring and found a wedding ring that I really like but the band is made of palladium. Is it safe to wear these two metals together without one damaging the other?

It will wear the softer metal OVER TIME but that could take many years. My Grandmothers wedding ring eventually wore away the band of her engagement ring but it took over 20 years to do.

Platinum and Palladium and quite good together but I would take the advice of your local friendly jeweler and have them check both rings. Sometimes the Platinum may be a lower grade in order to make it harder – so have that checked.

What Causes Anger?

Anger is a strong emotion of displeasure caused by some type of grievance that is either real or perceived to be real by a person. The cognitive behavior theory attributes anger to several factors such as past experiences, behavior learned from others, genetic predispositions, and a lack of problem-solving ability. To put it more simply, anger is caused by a combination of two factors: an irrational perception of reality (“It has to be done my way”) and a low frustration point (“It’s my way or no way”). Anger is an internal reaction that is perceived to have a external cause. Angry people almost always blame their reactions on some person or some event, but rarely do they realize that the reason they are angry is because of their irrational perception of the world. Angry people have a certain perception and expectation of the world that they live in and when that reality does not meet their expectation of it, then they become angry.

It is important to understand that not all anger is unhealthy. Anger is one of our most primitive defense mechanisms that protects and motivates us from being dominated or manipulated by others. It gives us the added strength, courage, and motivation needed to combat injustice done against us or to others that we love. However, if anger is left uncontrolled and free to take over the mind and body at any time, then anger becomes destructive.

Why We Need to Control Anger

Just like a person who is under the control of a street drug—a person under the influence of anger cannot rationalize, comprehend, or make good decisions because anger distorts logical reasoning into blind emotion. You become unable to think clearly and your emotions take control of your actions. Physiologically speaking, anger enacts the fight or flight response in our brain, which increases our blood pressure and releases adrenaline into our bloodstream, thereby increasing our strength and pain threshold. Anger makes us think of only two things: (1) Defend, or (2) Attack. Neither of these options facilitates a good negotiation.

Internal Sources of Anger

Our internal sources of anger come from our irrational perceptions of reality. Psychologists have identified four types of thinking that contribute to anger.

1. Emotional reasoning. People who reason emotionally misinterpret normal events and things that other people say as being directly threatening to their needs and goals. People who use emotional reasoning tend to become irritated at something innocent that other people tell them because they perceive it as an attack on themselves. Emotional reasoning can lead to dysfunctional anger in the long run.

2. Low frustration tolerance. All of us at some point have experienced a time where our tolerance for frustration was low. Often stress-related anxiety lowers our tolerance for frustration and we begin to perceive normal things as threats to our well-being or threats to our ego.

3. Unreasonable expectations. When people make demands, they see things as how they should be and not as they really are. This lowers their frustration tolerance because people who have unreasonable expectations expect others to act a certain way, or for uncontrollable events to behave in a predictable manner. When these things do not go their way, then anger, frustration, and eventually depression set in.

4. People-rating. People-rating is an anger-causing type of thinking where the person applies a derogatory label on someone else. By rating someone as a “bitch” or a “bastard,” it dehumanizes them and makes it easier for them to become angry at the person.

External Sources Of Anger

There are a hundreds of internal and external events that can make us angry, but given the parameters of a negotiating situation, we can narrow these factors down to four general events.

1. The person makes personal attacks against us. The other side attacks you along with the problem in the form of verbal abuse.

2. The person attacks our ideas. The other side chops down our ideas, opinions, and options.

3. The person threatens our needs. The person threatens to take away a basic need of ours if they do not get their way i.e. “I’ll make sure you’ll never work in this city again.”

4. We get frustrated. Our tolerance level for getting things done might be low or affected by any number of environmental factors in our lives.

Factors That Lower Our Frustration Tolerance

1. Stress / Anxiety. When our stress-level increases, our tolerance for frustration decreases. This is why there are so many domestic disputes and divorces over financial problems.

2. Pain. Physical and emotional pain lowers our frustration tolerance. This is because we are so focused on taking care of our survival needs, that we do not have time for anything or anyone else.

3. Drugs / Alcohol. Drugs and alcohol affect how our brain processes information and can make a person more irritable or bring forward repressed emotions or memories that can trigger anger.

4. Recent irritations. Recent irritations can also be called “having a bad day.” It’s the little irritations that add up during the course of the day that lower our tolerance for frustration. Recent irritations can be: stepping in a puddle, spilling coffee on your shirt, being late for work, being stuck in a traffic jam, having a flat tire.

Recognizing the Physiological Signs of Anger

By recognizing the physiological signs of anger, we can attune ourselves to know when it is time to take measures to make sure that our level of anger does not get out of control. Here are some symptoms of anger:

1. Unconscious tensing of muscles, especially in the face and neck.

2. Teeth grinding

3. Breathing rate increases dramatically

4. Face turns red and veins start to become visible due to an increase in blood pressure

5. Face turns pale

6. Sweating

7. Feeling hot or cold

8. Shaking in the hands

9. Goosebumps

10. Heart rate increases

11. Adrenaline is released into your system creating a surge of power.

Am I Right to be Angry?

Damn right you are. You have your own perception and expectation of the world that you live in and when the reality that you live in fails to meet your expectations, then yes you have the right to be angry. Afterall, if everyone thought alike, then the world would be a pretty dull place to live. You are going to run into situations that you don’t enjoy. You are going to run into people who don’t respect your views and ideas. The feeling of anger is totally justified according to your beliefs and so don’t repress or deny those feelings.

Having to right to feel angry does not mean that you have the right to lash out in anger by attacking the other person. You can’t change the views of other people to conform to your own because, like you, they have their own right to uphold their view of the world. The best thing you can do is recognize your anger and focus it on the problem instead of your counterpart.

Key Points

Being angry or frustrated is just like being under the influence of a drug. It prevents you from rationalizing and thinking logically.

Anger is caused by a combination of an irrational perception of reality and a low frustration point.

Anger is a natural response and you have every right to be angry, but you must learn to keep that anger in check during a negotiation because once you react in any negotiation, then you lose the agreement.

Project Planning For Project Sponsors: Why You Need To Be Involved

So you've just handed a project and a project manager and told that you're going to be a project sponsor.

Oh, joy!

And of course, you really do not know what a project sponsor is and what they do. So now, you have to figure out your role in the project.

Or maybe you're a hand-off type of project sponsor and your new project manager has started asking you to be involved. So now, you're wondering why you should be bothered. And you're probably resenting the time commitment you are being asked to provide.

In other words – why should you be involved?

In this article, I'm going to discuss that very question. Why should the project sponsor be involved in the project planning process? And how much involvement is actually required?

First of all, you need to understand your role in the project governance process. There are three major players and one minor player at the project planning table. Management needs to be represented because they own the project. It's theirs. They pay for it. They're responsible for it. The second major player is the customer. They're the ones most affected by the project. They determine the requirements. The third major player is the supplier. These are the individuals or department representatives who will actually be delivering the project. The fourth player is seldom represented directly. These are the non-customer stakeholders. These are the people who will be affected by the project.

Three groups represent management for the project: the sponsor, the steering committee and the project manager. The steering committee is an approvals group. Their responsibility is to review the progress of the project and to approve major changes. The sponsor is the manager given the responsibility for the project. They own the project. However, they are typically very busy executives. And typically, they manage operations or operate at the strategic level. So they are given an avatar to deal with daily issues. This is the project manager – a specialist in managing projects rather than operations or strategy.

In short, the sponsor is the owner of the project.

The sponsor will be extremely responsible for the project. Your duties as sponsor, including assigning the players, approving changes (or forwarding them to the steering committee), communicating upwards and to the steering committee, and providing political support.

The first and last duties are the most important during the planning stage of the project.

Your first responsibility is going to be to assign your representative and give them their marching orders. You need to give them the information they are going to need to succeed. They need to know the why of the project, the limits of the project, the purpose of the project and the criteria for success. In short, although the project manager may produce the physical charter, you are the one writing it.

Your next responsibility is to assign his or her project team. Typically, this is done in two stages. The first is an informal assignment – usually by the individual's regular manager. The second stage consists of a kick-off meeting for the project team. Your responsibility is to expand on the assignment. Basically, you need to repeat the charter for the team members. In most cases, you'll actually just support your project manager while they do the presentation of the charter. However, only you can communicate the level of support that management is prepared to give the project.

The importance of the third responsibility can not be overestimated. Your responsibility is to politically support your project manager. Typically, a project manager has little or no authority on their own. People being what they are, there will almost always be one or two team members who want to dominate the show. You need to lend your authority to your representative – the project manager. By doing so during the planning process, you can help to avoid later issues.

Glaucoma – What to Expect in a Visual Field Test

Visual field testing is done for a number of different reasons but most frequently to test or manage patients who have glaucoma. So just what is this test that your Eye Doctor wants you to have? It may be referred to by different names; automated perimetry, visual field test, threshold test, SITA (slang for Swedish Interactive Thresholding Algorithm) or various other terms. The original testing method was called a tangent screen which is a black square of material hanging on the wall. The Goldmann Bowl Perimeter was next and it was a manual version something like the automated devices your eye doctor uses today. Your sensitivity to light on the retina (the light sensitive layer lining the inside of the eye) resembles a topographical map of a hill. The most sensitive point is in the center like the high point on a hill and the farther you move away from this central vision point the less sensitive the tissue is to light (like the lower elevations on a topographical map). The central high point corresponds to the macula, which is why macular degeneration only has to compromise a small area to have devastating effects on vision. A visual field test measures the eyes sensitivity out into the peripheral parts of the retina. Most eye exams only test the small central peak of the hill. The visual field test measure not only the peripheral retina but to some extent the pathway of the eye nerves through the brain.

Your visual field test will be either a screening test or a threshold test. Screening test are used by an Optometrist to check for eye diseases and vision problems in a method similar to how your family doctor would do a single blood pressure reading to screen for high blood pressure. If your family doctor was more concerned they would want multiple readings and more refined testing methods, sometimes a cardiac stress test to see how your heart and blood pressure performances under different conditions with a much higher number of data points. Likewise, a threshold visual field test done by your eye doctor is much more detailed testing. Since the hill of vision shrinks with age, a threshold test will compare your results to an age matched population sample without glaucoma and other eye diseases. The eye test will yield a detailed statistical analysis.

You can expect to take the test to take about 3 to 5 minutes for each eye in most cases. The vision test is standardized for eyes that are dilated so you will need to plan on 30 to 60 minutes in the office even though the visual testing itself is fairly brief. For the actual visual field test you will be listed with a half of a bowl like instrument in front of you. If you wear contact lenses they will need to be removed. The visual field instruments calculate a different prescription compensating for the distance you are viewing. Prescription lenses are placed in a holder in front of your eyes to substitute for your contact lenses or eyeglasses. One eye will be covered and you will need to fixate on a central light through the testing. A device resembling a computer mouse will be held in one hand and you simply click it each time you think you see a small point of light flash anywhere in the bowl. The flashes are very brief and may be close to the point your eye is fixing on or very far off in the peripheral field of sight. The brightness of the flash of light also varies from very dim to very visible. In our Eye Center we typically start the testing sequence in demonstration mode to familiarizeize patients with the process.

Many people worry about their responses; if they clicked too late, clicked accidentally, and are uncomfortable with the dimness of some light points just on the edge of visual perception. This should not be a concern. Visual field testing is still sophisticated today and measures your mistakes, retests them, and gives an index telling us how much variation there was in your eye exam. If the reliability is too low we repeat the test on another day and almost always find the reliability of the eye exam goes up to acceptable levels. There are even adjustments made by the software to factor out the fact that you may have cataracts or other conditions that are not in the retina or visual pathway through the brain. With most visual field instruments you can pause the test yourself by holding down the clicker. That can give you a chance to relax, change position, or ask a question to clarify what you responses should be. We usually start on a demonstration mode to familiarizeize patients with the process and change over to actual testing once patients appear to be comfortable. You can always request a demonstration period first.

Beside glaucoma, a visual field test can be used to diagnose pituitary tumors, neurological problems, and unexplained loss of sight and headaches.

One last point- if you live in area like Fort Collins the Colorado sunshine is extremely bright after your eyes are dilated. Be sure you leave with temporary sunglasses if you do not already have quality sunwear.

Eye Doctor – What You Need to Know About Laser Eye Surgery

In recent years, corrective laser eye surgery became a staple choice for patients, with more than one million patients opting for such a procedure. But what exactly is it and how does it work? Well, we suggest you put on your landau scrubs and allow us to take you on a tour that will let you explore the world of corrective eye surgery.

For one, it owes its popularity to its effectiveness. First performed by an ophthalmologist in Greek during the late eighties and introduced to American surgeons in 1990, laser eye surgery soon made a name for itself in the medical field. It is often viewed as the best alternative to contact lenses and eyeglasses, and is used to correct astigmatism, farsightedness, and nearsightedness. Also, the said procedure can be done safely and quickly, with the patient experiencing very minimum discomfort.

Things to expect before surgery

Just like any other medical procedure, the patient will have to be educated regarding the whole process by the assigned expert. The information is usually given through a seminar or a free consultation. During this time, you can freely ask the surgery coordinator specific questions about the process and options. Should you decide to proceed with the surgery, the next step is to schedule an appointment for a consultation and comprehensive examination. At this point, your medical and ocular history will be reviewed. You may have to undergo a series of tests in order to assess your appropriateness for surgery. These measurements may include testing of the retina and optic nerves, measuring intraocular pressure, determining your dominant eye, and above all, measuring the thickness of the cornea.

Seeing through the surgery

Conventional eye surgery is done reliably quickly. It is basically a painless outpatient procedure that does no require hospitalization. Yes, you can go home right after undergoing eye surgery. So on with surgery itself …

While you are awake during the surgery, you will be given anesthetic eye drops, numbing your eyes in the process. To keep your eyelashes out of the way, a plastic drape will be used and placed on your eyelids. To hold the eyelids back, a speculum will also be used during the entire operation. A suction cup will then be placed over each eye, creating the flap. After being gently rolled back, expect to feel a little bit of pressure. A laser will take care of the actual correction of the vision indemnification by reshaping the cornea. This will usually take about several minutes per eye. Aside from the "clicking" sound made by the machine, expect to smell a slight odor as the laser vaporizes the tissue. After the actual laser treatment, you will be ushered into a recovery room to rest. Expect to feel a slight tingling or burning sensation as the anesthesia wears off. Finally, you will be given a final check up, complete with post-operation care guidelines. You will also be given eye drops and protective eye shields during the final check-up. After that, you can go home to rest your eyes-now you're on your way to recovery.

Can Astigmatism Be Cured?

Astigmatism occurs in individuals who have a cornea shaped like a football. The cornea should be shaped like a baseball in order to reflect light correctly. When it is shaped like a football there is more than one curve on the cornea, generally a steep one and a flat one. This causes light to reflect on more than one point in the retina which results in blurry vision for the patient. Frequently nearsightedness or farsightedness occur with astigmatism.

There is not necessarily a cure for astigmatism. However, there are a variety of ways to correct astigmatism that include surgery, glasses or contacts.

Surgeries used to correct astigmatism most frequently are astigmatic keratotomy and LASIK. Astigmatic keratotomy is performed by cutting a microscopic incision in the eye and reshaping the cornea. LASIK is performed by cutting a small flap in the eye and then reshaping the cornea through lasers. Although these procedures are performed somewhat differently, they are used to reshape the cornea and provide clear vision. The object of the surgery is to make the cornea more spherical like a basketball instead of shaped like a football.

Glasses correct astigmatism by redirecting the light to the retina. This produces clear vision for the astigmatism sufferer. Contacts work in a similar way also and are used to redirect the light. Many years ago there were only rigid gas permeable contacts available for astigmatism sufferers, but times have changed and today there are soft lenses available as well. Depending on your eye prescription and how much astigmatism you have, will affect the correction options available to you. If you suspect you have astigmatism, or know you do, talk to your optometrist about the variety of correction options and the ones that would be most effective for your vision and lifestyle.

iDesign Wavescan Studio

The nature of eye surgery technology has changed drastically over the past few years, and the iDesign Wavescan Studio is one of the most innovative systems on the market at the moment. This studio has been based on the designs of the Abbott scientists that work on the James Webb Space Telescope built by NASA. Now, the same technology is being used to improve the lens of the eye and the sight in humans. It uses the same basis as LASIK surgery, but patients can look forward to an even better and more enhanced experience.

What is it?

The iDesign Wavescan Studio has the capacity to capture more than 1,200 micro readings of the eye. At the same time it can also identify the shape of the cornea, its curvature, how light passes through the eye and how pupil changes in diameter in different light settings. All of this is done in one single 3-second scan that can be used to correct vision. It actually personalises the entire eye surgery for the patient, because no one human being has exactly the same eye shape. This will allow surgeons to give the patient a better result at the end of the recovery period.

The details that can be detected by the iDesign Wavescan Studio can analyse details of the eye that no other piece of equipment has ever been able to do before. It has even been tested to see if it can improve the vision of people who have no visible symptoms of myopia or presbyopia. These patients reported that they could see clearer, reduction in glare, and better vision whilst driving the night and day time. This studio has been improved in several countries and is available in the United States of America.

A Credit Card For People With Bad Credit – $10,000 Guaranteed Starting Credit Line

The recent financial crunch has caused many would be credit issuers to tighten up on approvals for those consumer applicants with less than perfect credit. Even new credit seekers who do not have poor FICO scores, but also have not had the opportunity to establish a good credit profile as of yet are being turned away and treated as high risk applicants.

The problem for people who fall into either of these categories is that they have a legitimate need to either establish or re-establish their good credit profile and raise their FICO score, however without easy access to credit card approvals their ability to accomplish this necessary task is extremely difficult. Ironically, it’s these same card issuers who would like their applicants to have established solid credit histories who will not approve them in the beginning to help them prove that they are worthy of a new card approval. This vicious credit circle affects over half of the households in American today.

A few companies have recently stepped in to fill the credit needs of this growing consumer segment and offer instant online approval credit cards for people with bad credit or no credit history at all. These credit providers will typically issue new credit cards without a credit check and regardless of the applicants past or present credit history. Some of these cards are issued as major brand logo credit cards, prepaid debit cards, secured credit cards and online catalog shopping cards which allow the card holder to purchase household and gift items from the credit grantors web based store.

One such card offered with no credit check is a new Platinum Card that boasts a huge beginning limit of $10,000 for all of its approved applicants, even those with poor credit or no history at all. As long as the applicant is at least 18 years of age and has a valid U.S. checking or savings account, the applicant will be approved. The Platinum Card also features 0 % interest on any unpaid balance and there is no employment verification required for approval. The card does require a minimal initial membership fee, however once the new member is approved, the card issues each user a whopping $2,500 bonus to use towards unpaid balances in addition to the generous starting limit of $10,000.

For consumers who are having trouble getting approved for a traditional credit card with strict income and employment requirements, this particular card for people with bad credit may be a valuable option to acquire a high limit credit card with no credit checks or employment verification.

Getting What is Due

College athletes whose names are used to make profits for their schools should receive some portion of the profit. Universities are moneymaking entities that currently profit from free labor of their athletes. College athletes bring in millions to their schools through the selling of jerseys, hats, and other memorabilia. The players whose abilities popularize the items for sale do not get any credit for the sales. Their universities are exploiting these top-notch college athletes. Colleges offer student athletes scholarships as meager compensation for full access to all the potential profits. Moreover, NCAA players are not allowed to earn income while participating in sports. Players can not have a part time job of any kind. These NCAA regulations are completely unjustified and wrong. Therefore, athletes should have paid a percentage of the profit received from their sports.

Colleges have developed a cartel. A cartel is a business agreement to level the playing field. In this case, the field is talent in athletes. The agreement states that colleges and universities can not offer players anything more than scholarships and tuition benefits. From a business aspect, this is an intentional lowering of labor wages. If a business tried to do this they would wind up in court, but colleges get away with it. Colleges use this agreement to make profits off the players they have acquired for free, or essentially free. Once the players are on the team, merchandise can be sold with all profits going directly to the school. The profits instead go to the coaching staff and other personal. For example in 1997 the head football coach, Steve Spurrier, for Florida University made 1.1 million dollars, money his players earned, but he received unfairly.

On top of being exploited, players are not allowed to hold part time jobs. Athletes have to dig in the couch for enough change for a slice of pizza. This regulation has recently been eliminated, but it still illustrates the unfairness the NCAA imposes on its athletes. Along with jerseys representing athletes, coaches make shoe contracts restricting the players choice of shoes. For example all the Kentucky Wildcats basketball players have to wear Nike shoes. The Kentucky coach signed the shoe deal and he receives the check from Nike. He is not forced to wear Nike shoes; His players have to wear them, but they do not receive an endorsement.

Do college athletes really deserve to be paid? After all they receive a free college education. Sports are not cheap. Universities and colleges pay for traveling expenses associated with away games. Without the schools support, students would have to pay for rooms at hotels, gas for the buses or planes, and food as well as other expenses. These expenses are a part of sports in general and student athletes should not have to pay those expenses. High school athletes do not have to pay for traveling expenses so it is unrealistic to expect that of college athletes. Ticket sales and television air time deals more than make up for the costs of travel.

Many people believe that athletes should be happy with what they have. They receive a free education worth thousands and they get to do something they love. Jocks do not deserve all this special treatment because they do not value the education they are obtaining. Well, the NCAA offers rewards to athletes who perform well in the classroom. Most athletes work hard at their areas of study. Athletes are under appreciated and exploited. Most are considered to be just dumb jocks. Most jocks work hard in the classroom, as well as in the sporting arenas. They deserve some compensation for the money they help bring in.

College athletes should receive some profit if their names are used to generate funds for the schools that they play for. The business of college sports is a money-producing machine that can afford to help out the athletes that make the machine run. Without the athletes, the universities and colleges would not make the millions they produce currently. Sure, athletes receive free college education, but this is a small price to pay compared to the large profits that are to be made by player name exploitation. Universities and colleges should share the wealth. Give the athletes who earn the dollars some of those dollars.

Is Prolozone A Viable Chronic Pain Treatment?

Prolozone is a relatively new form of alternative treatment for damaged joints, ligaments, tendons and spinal discs. It is administered as an injection, delivering a mixture of oxygen and ozone to injured areas of the body.

Prolozone is different from prolotherapy; this latter form of treatment is generally limited to ligaments and involves the injection of a solution of simple sugar water combined with an anesthetic into damaged ligaments. The introduction of a foreign substance sparks the inflammatory response. The body sends inflammatory materials to the injected area, meaning that blood flow is increased.

Inflammation has a definite role in healing; increased blood flow delivers nutrients to injured areas that help repair them. But inflammation tends to limit oxygen supply to the area, particularly when chronic. Oxygen is crucial to the healing of bodily tissues. Prolozone injects oxygen and ozone, the most energetic form of oxygen, directly into injured tissues to facilitate repair.

Prolozone therapy generally involves fewer injections than prolotherapy and boasts of immediate pain relief. Its proponents claim that it has the capacity to permanently repair tissues and bring an end to chronic pain. One of the most significant claims made is that prolozone can repair cartilage in joints, something desperately needed and long-awaited in the field of arthritis treatment.

If effective, prolozone offers hope to people suffering from chronic conditions like back pain, sciatica, sacroiliac joint dysfunction and arthritis. But, like most alternative treatments, there is very little research available to back up its claims. There are a handful of studies that promote reasonable success with ozone treatment for people with disc degeneration and osteoarthritis. See http://www.edmontonprolotherapy.com/Research/ProlozoneResearch.aspx for a collection of studies.

Even customer reviews are hard to come by for prolozone, possibly because of its newness. One review can be found on a forum at http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=120062421&page=1; the reviewer chronicles her early use of prolozone therapy for severe knee arthritis.

Prolozone treatment is generally not covered by insurance. An average cost is not available at this time, but the above reviewer mentioned that her injections cost $125 each, and she was receiving between 1 and 7 shots every 1 to 2 weeks.

There are many reasons to be hesitant about pursuing a new therapy like prolozone. Lack of studies, reviews, long-term risk analysis and insurance coverage are all plenty to make any patient weary. However, for those facing surgeries with high price tags, recovery time and risk, prolozone may be an attractive albeit experimental alternative.

Prolozone is a treatment option to pay attention to over the next couple of years; if scientific evidence grows in support of it, it may become eligible for insurance coverage and revolutionize the treatment of chronic pain problems like arthritis and disc degeneration. With regenerative properties unlike steroid injections and a wide range of application unlike prolotherapy, prolozone could be the future of pain injections.

Before pursuing alternative or conventional treatments, do your research. Understanding the pros and cons of treatments will put you in a position to make the best choices.
