Male Hair Loss – the Causes of and Treatments For

Male hair loss, also known more once as Androgenic Alopecia, is a very natural and gradual response to a lack of tolerance of some hair follicles to male sex hormones. Male hair loss is a genetically passed trait, and is very common, affecting roughly 2/3 of the male population. An estimated 35 million men in the United States, and approximately 7.4 million men in the UK are affected by this genetic trait. The population of men affected by Androgenic Alopecia is also subject to discrimination based on their ethnic background. The men affected the least by genetic hair loss are Native Americans, who are completely unaffected by it. Chinese and Japanese males experience the lowest range of effects, while Afro-Caribbeans follow and are only topped by Caucasians who experience the highest rates of genetic male hair loss. You can most successfully determine if you will be a victim of male pattern baldness by studying the age at which your male ancestors began to lose their hair, particularly on the maternal side of the family. It appears that the strongest influence towards whether a man will develop male pattern baldness is determined by the male ancestors along the mother's genetic side. If all of the men within the female's family have a tendency to develop male pattern baldness, chances are their descenders will as well. The age at which the condition begins to develop will also be pre-determined by the mother's side as well.

The primary culprit in the case of male pattern baldness is the male sex hormone Testosterone. More specifically, it is the sex hormone that is developed by the body from testosterone, called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is responsible for stimulating facial and body hair and the prostate gland. It is widely thought that hair follicle's over-sensitivity to DHT causes it to shrink, sometimes over time, to a size at which they are no longer able to perform the task of producing hair. The follicles themselves never die, they just are no longer able to function properly. This sensitivity to sex hormones is also the reason why it was commonly believed for many years that bald men were considered more virile. It is now, however, much more commonly understood that male pattern baldness is the result to this over-sensitivity to DHT, rather than elevated levels of the sex hormones in the blood stream.

Aside from over-sensitivity to DHT, there are also other conditions under which both men, and even women, may experience hair loss. However, while there can be alternative culprits, most premature hair loss is a result, one way or another, of a hormonal imbalance. Women may notice a loss or thinning of hair after a pregnancy due to changing hormone levels, for example, or both sexes may notice hair loss as a result of lower hormone levels resulting with age. Both sexes may also experience hair loss as a result of Thyroid dysfunction. In the situations involving pregnancy and Thyroid dysfunction, once the levels of hormones have been corrected to normal levels, normal hair growth can usually be re-established. However, premature hair loss or male pattern baldness can, in rare cases also be attributed to a few other exceptional circumstances. For example, some medicines, such as blood thinners (anticoagulants), those used to treat gout, high blood pressure, heart problems, birth control methods and some antidepressants, can also affect hair growth. Exceptionally high doses of some vitamins, such as Vitamin A, can also affect hair growth negatively as well. Treatments such as Chemotherapy for Cancer can result in hair loss as well. Fungal infections can also affect hair growth, as well as diseases such as Lupus, and diabetes, if not properly diagnosed or treated. Specific cosmetic hair treatments and styles can also affect hair growth, such as perming, or rather the chemicals utilized to create a perm, and cornrows, curlers or tight hair rollers. All can create inflammation and scarring on the scalp after repeated use and can permanently impair hair growth. Stress can also have a huge impact on hair loss, however, this is more so bodily stress related to injuries, surgery, or illness. Stress can result in two types of hair loss, Telogen Effluvium, where the hair halts growth, remains dormant and falls out, only to have a new hair grow and replace it in 2 to 3 months later. The second type of stress related hair loss is Alopecia Areata, in which white blood cells attack the hair follicles. This type of hair loss generally affects hair over the whole body and may or may not require treatment to recover the hair loss, depending on the severity of the damage to the follicles.

For most causes for hair loss, there is either a treatment or an alternative measure which can be taken to prevent, or, in some cases, reverse the damage to the hair line. These may involve switching medications, taking medications, or taking non-medicinal measures. However, in the specific case of male hair loss, while there is no specific cure, there are homeopathic, natural remedies, and more traditional medical remedies available to treat the condition. While for more medically serious conditions, such as Alopecia Areata, an immediate consult with your GP is best, however, a good place to start searching for treatment for male pattern baldness, is a visit to a registered trichologist, (a doctor that specializes in both the cosmetic and medical aspects of hair loss and treatments). There are many treatments offered by traditional medicine for male pattern baldness. The following treatments are listed in chemical form only and not by their marketed commercial names. One such treatment is Minoxidil which is a topical cream treatment licensed for treating premature male hair loss; originally it was a pill developed to alleviate high blood pressure, though doctors soon noticed it also had the added side effect of producing increased hair growth in patients, and that reformulated it for this purpose. Another treatment, based on the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT, inhibits this conversion, which, in theory halts the hair loss process. This chemical treatment is called Finesteride. Anti-androgen therapy utilizes a variety of hormonal drugs to directly block the action of DHT. These drugs are similar to those utilized for female oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapies and are something there before controversial in nature. Still other treatments, which involve surgical methods, are Hair transplant surgeries. These surgeries include transferring skin grafts from areas bearing hair to bald areas, micro-grafts, or hair plugs (smallest versions of grafts), Scalp Reduction (which is most suitable for men with smaller balding areas), and Flap-Surgery (which is accomplished by making the area of the scalp with hair, larger, and again is better suited for those with smaller balding areas). However these types of treatments are often pricy and involve considered financial investment. While specific options for women who are experiencing long term hair loss are limited, Regaine for women is, unfortunately, the only current licensed treatment.

Other less invasive or more natural treatments include altering your hair care routine to reduce the physical stresses and chemical treatments applied to the scalp (no dying, perming, cornrows, etc). Some products, like shampoos can enhance the physical characteristics and appearance of hair, and always remember to handle your hair with care when it is wet as this is when it is most fragile. Cutting your hair to a shorter length will minimize the contrast between areas with and without hair. Ensure you are eating properly, including sufficient amounts of protein, which is the building blocks for healthy hair, among other bodily functions.

However, natural or homeopathic remedies also offer other successful and less invasive treatments for hair loss. Saw Palmetto extract is a natural treatment shown to be very effective in encouraging new hair growth, as well as an oil treatment combination of olive, tea tree, rosemary and lavender oils. Pumpkin seeds have also been said to aid the liver in breaking down DHT and thus reducing its levels within the body and its effects on the follicles. Other herbal supplement combinations, such as Procerin, have also been shown to be highly effective, particularly at levels of less hair loss. Applying such herbal treatments is said to be most effective if done prior to major hair loss, so the earlier one is able to seek out herbal treatments, the better the chances they may have of being effective in fighting hair loss.

After the method you choose to combat your hair loss, educate yourself on the side effects (if any exist). Make sure you are well aware of the financial implications, and if there is any continuing treatment required following the initial procedure to maintain the positive impacts. There are many treatments available, seek one that best suits your needs and abilities. And finally, it is always recommended to seek medical advice from your doctor before trying any new treatment or medication, medicinal, herbal, or otherwise. A doctor will be able to best assist you with selecting the treatment that is best suited for your circumstances, and may even be able to offer suggestions on new or improved treatment methods. If You Don’t Read These 7 NO’s in Pregnancy, You’ll Hate Yourself Later

It must be lovely to find out that you have a baby inside your womb. Imagining how to give birth to him/her, searching for the right name, shopping for cute baby outfits, baby shower party. Oh yes, those are very lovely.

However, it is necessary for you to keep yourself alert–without having to trim your excitement down.

There are 7 NO’s in pregnancy that you have to know:

1. Smoking. Do not smoke or be around those who do. Smoking raises the levels of carbon monoxide in your bloodstream and cause dropping off on the amount of oxygen available to your baby. Nicotine constrains the blood vessels on your side of the placenta, which means oxygen is less efficiently released to the baby.

2. Medicines. The problem caused by medicines taken by the mother is that they can cross the placenta and enter the baby’s bloodstream. This might cause problems in the development of the baby. Medicines can also indirectly have an effect on the baby by interfering with the environment within the womb. Some medicines can trigger contractions of the womb, lessen the blood supply to the baby, cause early, delayed or even prolonged labor.

3. Alcohol. Babies born to mothers who drank alcohol during their pregnancy are usually small and underweight. And, they might suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome. It is the leading cause of mental retardation in the US.

4. Stress. Try your best not to be stressed out. It might make you find it difficult to sleep, get headache, back pain, etc. It might also influence your baby’s mood. Worse, it might cause early birth.

5. Chemical. Be careful with the chemicals you use at home such as cleaners, paint, thinner, or pesticide. If you work with those chemicals for such a long period during your pregnancy, your baby is exposed if the chemical passes from your blood. This will harm your baby and slow down your baby’s growth and intelligence.

6. Hot tub. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) affirms that becoming overheated in a hot tub is not recommended during pregnancy. ACOG also recommends that pregnant women never let their core body temperature rise above 102.2º F. Hot tubs are often factory programmed to maintain a water temperature of approximately 104º F. It takes only 10-20 minutes in a hot tub to raise your body temperature to 102º F or higher.

7. Animal feces. Make sure you don’t clean up your dog or cat’s poo. It contains an organism called Toxoplasma gondii which is very dangerous for your baby. It might cause a miscarriage, stillbirth, blindness, deafness, or learning disabilities.

For your own and baby’s good, be very careful wit your pregnancy.

Saving Lives Around Drunken People

During the summer of 1987, I had a girlfriend with three boys, the oldest was 5 years old. If I thought long enough I could probably come up with his name, but that's not important. Being like most 5 year olds was was quite active and amazing to spend my time with.

I was working many hours during that time and decided to take a day off, which allowed me time with my girlfriend and her kids for the day.

The boys with their mother would spend most of their summer days at whiskey town lake west of Redding CA. There was a nice sandy beach with a tree line along the south side of the swimming area which allowed people to sit in the shade or sun along the beach area.

On the average weekday there would be 75 to 100 adults with their children.

As the kids were swimming, the parents were staying cool in the tree line, having an everyday party with wine coolers and such.

I was watching my girlfriend's 5-year-old boy as he played with a friend he meet. They were not swimmers yet, but they were having fun bouncing around in the shallow water throwing a ball back and forth. Well as it goes with 5 year olds, they were testing each other by throwing the ball a little farther out, where the water was a little deer and again just a little deeper. As they bounced around on their tippy toes on bottom, only dog paddle swimming but not really able to swim yet.

I watched as it happened, The one boy who was playing with my girlfriend's boy, stepped into the deep, just a little to deep to bounce on his toes off the bottom and keep his head out of the water.

I jumped up and ran toward him down the beach, by the time I reached the water's edge he had gone under two times, he was going under for the third time when I reached him in the water. I lifting him up and out of the water and carried him to shore.

He did not drowned, but was totally exhausted from the experience.

He would have drowned if I had not been there, watching, preparing to react to the situation as it occurred.

The first sign that anyone person on the beach had a clue this child was about to drowned, was when I cared him out of the water on to the beach, fully dressed and soaking wet.

After about five minutes of the little boy being comforted in his mother's lap, he raised his head and told me thank you. I could see in his eyes that he knew, he was about to die and I saved him.

I guess it was the shock of the situation that caused me to do what I did next.

I walked up to the beach head where everyone on the beach could see me standing.

I proceeded to call out to everyone on the beach, that they were a bunch of losers and drunks, that partying was more important to them, than the lives of their children.

That's the polite way of saying what I really said to the crowd that day. Not one person on the beach said a word, for they all knew what had just happened. I was mad and for good reason, I went to my vehicle and left, never to return again.

As I know, an angel placed me on that beach that morning to save that little boy.

Did my words fall on deaf ears? I do not know?

The Timex watch I was wearing when this happened, did not survive. Jo

Hair Loss Natural Remedies and Treatments for Women

Thinning hair is not a condition which only affects men. Nearly half of all women will start losing some of their hair by the time they reach middle age. Some will notice that their strands are thinning at a much younger age. Many women are related to use medications to grow their hair back and for good reason. Some of these treatments can cause side effects. Fortunately, hair loss natural remedies can offer the same results without posing a risk to your health.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is one of the most simple hair loss natural remedies you can use. It is traditionally used for relaxation. Stress can cause thinning hair, so reducing stress can help you grow back your hair.

Another benefit is found in the herbal oils used in aromatherapy. These oils help minimize the effects of female pattern baldness. Mix some of these oils such as lavender oil and bay oil together and massage the mixture into your scalp. You can also add some of these natural oils to your shampoo to thicken your hair.

Garlic and Onions
Garlic and onions are effective hair loss natural remedies because they contain a mineral which stimulates the strands to grow. These two vegetables are loaded with sulphur, which is essential in order for the hair to grow.

You can use it as a topical treatment by gently rubbing an onion bulb or garlic clove directly to your scalp. If the smell is too strong for you to tolerate, you can filter it out by soaking the bulb or clove in a glass of milk for about an hour.

Herbal Hair Loss Natural Remedies
Nettle root extract and saw palmetto are good hair loss natural remedies for women who are losing hair due to female pattern baldness. These herbs reduce the production of a hormone which causes this condition.

The Differences Between Classical And Popular Vocalising

Singing is one of the oldest forms of communication. When I give Pop Singing Lessons to new singers without any singing experience at all, there is usually one thing that strikes me the most. Everyone of them has a need to communicate through vocal expression. No matter if they "have the X Factor" or not. No matter if they sing in tune or not. Even the singers with no ear at all feel the need to sing.

Before I start the first singing lesson with any new student, I always tell them that we need to consider what is fundamental to singing in any style. One of the great distinctions between teaching "classical" singing and popular singing is that popular song has evolved out of years of free experimentation with sound and style. This means that the range of choices for popular song production is greater than the range for those you may hear in local choir societies. For Classical artists, the training is incredibly demanding, and the vocal skills necessary is daunting to most of us. For popular singing, as we know neither of these is necessary. It takes a generous heart to think of Johnny Cash as a skilled singer, and no one imagines for a moment that Bob Dylan had much training. But popular music is an awesome category and most people know that a voice like Whitney Houston's is both very skilled and has probably had the benefit of some training. Although the relatively forgiving nature of popular music when it comes to technical skill, there are still some bottom line skills that are really helpful in enhancing a singer's ability. And since the importance of these skills, the bad news is that there is relatively little known about how they work – and even less known about how to help the singer who does not possess them!

The first of these is the need for any singer, popular or Classical, to pitch notes with accuracy. The tone can be like a gravel-mixer (Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen), or as piercing as that of a screaming cat (Kate Bush or Bjork); improvisational ability may be negligible and the delivery rather artless (Carole King or Suzanne Vega); and even the overall audibility / comprehensibility can be completely obscured (Rickie Lee Jones or Chet Baker) but when or not the voice is technically exact, a singer needs a pretty reliable ear.

There are some exceptions to this, and almost every studio engineer I've ever known has endless tales of how they managed to save some recording from the woeful pitching of some artist or other. But if a reliable ear is an important quality, sadly there is not much remedy available to help poor pitch, and I've never found any quick cures. Any number of people have suggested possible solutions to pitch problems, and many singing teachers will insist that there is no "tone deafness" – just a lack of confidence and familiarity or problems of one sort or another in vocal production. While any or all of this may be true, there is still very little of a practical nature that has ever been produced to truly help someone "build" reliability into their pitching. While there are some good theories, there is still little evidence to suggest that anyone understands exactly how we improve pitch in all cases. And certainly, the more I read, the more contradictory is the advice I'm given. Many people warn of the difficulty of learning pitch from hearing notes on a piano, yet I know of one singer who, after years of being told that he had a lovely tone but flawed pitch, decided to take some action. He spent more than a year practicing daily with a piano and a tape recorder, matching the sound on the keyboard with his own and listening to the playback. He found that for the first time he could hear the pitch problem (but only when playing sounds back on the tape recorder) – which was an important first step towards correcting it. He kept at it with amazing perseverance, and found that by the end of the year he was being asked to do much more lead vocal in his band. He did not stop there, but carried on recording and listening for another year. He was 21 when he sat down with the piano and the cassette recorder – he has now been singing solo professionally for more than a decade.

This story is the living example that recording and analyzing are a cruel part of any singing lesson, no matter if classic or popular.

History of Hip Hop Music

Many point to the origins of hip hop music starting in the Bronx, New York during the 1960s and 1970s. Kool Herc (real name: Clive Campbell) was a Jamaican resident in the Bronx and is accredited with founding this music genre. Considered a pioneer of the style, this Jamaican DJ created a style of reciting different rhymes over instrumentals.

Starting in the late 1970s, other artists entered into the scene, including Grandmaster Flash and Jazzy Jay. They took rap music and expanded it by utilizing back-beats, as well as cutting and scratching. Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" was the first song recorded and released by a hip hop group and considered to be the very first release of this type of music.

In 1985, the "Golden Age of this music genre" was introduced and was characterized by quality, influence, diversity, and innovation. Through rap, popular themes, such as Afrocentric and political militancy were introduced. More emphasis was also put in experiment in this musical genre. Public Enemy was one of the major faces of this period of rap music, along with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and Jungle Brothers. As well in the 1980s, a hip hop was crossing many boundaries as many punk and new wave bands, including The Clash and Blondie, incorporated the styling of this music genre into their music. In a famous example, rap group Run-DMC incorporated rock into their music with their performance of "Walk this Way" with Aerosmith.

Occasionally females started to enter the genre with acts like Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte, and Queen Latifa. They led the way for future female acts, including Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige.

Hip hop music still exists today with artists like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Nelly. However, it has moved away from the original message according to many leaders of this musical genre.

Treating Heavy Periods – Heavy Menstrual Bleeding and Fibroids

Why do we bleed so heavily?

Is it because of the amount of estrogen in our body?

The pill we take?

Is it because of the foods we eat?

What is the cause?

The foods we eat causes our bodies to be full of toxins and pesticides and this counteracts the growth of fibroids which in turn, causes the fibroids to grow larger. With the growth of the fibroids, this causes blood loss, anemia and loss of weight too. Through the loss of blood and heavy menstrual bleeding, other symptoms could be lower back pain, bloated stomachs, and longer periods as well as blood spotting during the long period.

Women suffer differently when they are experiencing fibroid growth – but once the fibroids continue growing, and the fibroids continue feeding on the pesticides and toxins which are present in the body, more blood will be released from the body which in turn causes anemia and therefore causes frustration and embarrassment to the woman in question.

Heavy blood loss can demonstrate a whole host of embarrassing situations for the woman. Sitting on a seat and all of a sudden a whole gush of blood just pours down or standing in a queue and a whole gush of blood pours down the legs is very, very embarrassing! I know because I have been there!!!

So its all about the foods we eat – I know so! Also bear in mind that the contraceptive pill could also be increasing your hormone levels therefore causing more estrogen and in turn causing heavier periods – and loss of blood too.

The pill

Check the pill you are taking because this could also be the cause of your blood loss. The pill is full of estrogen – estrogen in your body in abundance is the cause of fibroids growing and some of the ailments that we are faced with. So changing your pill to a non estrogen pill may be more beneficial to you.

You may not be aware but some of the contraceptive pills that we consume do have side effects that we may not be aware of. Some contraceptive pills although supposedly keeps our blood flow at bay, causes other indicative problems to our wellbeing.

Your Weight

Being overweight can cause our fibroids to grow which in turn cause menstrual blood overflow. As mentioned previously, it would be good to bear in mind what your diet consists of and eradicate certain foods from your diet in order that you can try and maintain your hormonal balance coupled with herbal organic supplements which will control and steady the flow of blood.

Five Top Tips For Tightening Loose Skin and Improving Your Skin's Health Naturally

Tightening loose skin without surgery is absolutely possible. Loose skin can be caused by rapid weight loss, by aging and by a lack of both exercise and good skin nutrition.

Whatever the cause, here are five top tips for tightening loose skin while you improve your skin's health and youthful appearance – all naturally.

1. Food:

One of the big flavors you can do your skin is to eat more vegetables, salads, fruits, lean meats and fish.

One of the worst things we do to our skin – and overall health – is to eat a lot of starches and sugary foods. The body turns all starches (bread, cereals, potatoes) to sugar during digestion; add sweet drinks, candy or desserts, and plenty of bad things happen. You tend to get fat. Your blood sugar gets elevated. And you create a very bad thing called glycation.

Glycation happens when sugar molecules attach themselves to healthy proteins, damaging and distorting them. That's a huge cause of collagen destruction – so you lose collagen and your skin gets thin, saggy and loose. One great treatment: Cut way back on the stars and sugars. Another follows …

2. Supplements: Take an excellent supplement. It must contain a nutrient called Carnosine (not carnitine; just sounds like it), 50 mg a day or more. The tablet must be enteric-coated to prevent Carnosine from being damaged by stomach acids. Carnosine is the only known natural substance that causes and stops glycation.

3. Exercise: If you never get any exercise, you need to begin. Start gently, but build up some muscle tone and flexibility. You'll be helping your skin regain strength and elasticity as you do.

4. Skin care: Your skin needs nourishment, not just a moisturizer, in a skin cream. Look for modern ingredients that rebuild your saggy skin. One is Cynergy TK, which contains an extremely bio-available form of keratin, an essential protein in nails, hair and skin. It has been proven in clinical trials to stimulate natural collagen production in the skin, and to increase skin cell growth by 160 percent.

5. Once you're giving your skin the help and nutrition it needs, inside and out, the final tip is: Give it some time!

Your skin needs time to adjust, to repair itself, get its natural flexibility and firmness back. Your skin is not a useless, useless piece of leather. It's a living, sensitive, body organ that can heal, recover its strength and elasticity, and snug itself around your body again.

See my website for specific recommendations on tightening loose skin .

Latex Allergy Is Not Just A Rubber Allergy

Natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy has emerged over the last decade, it is an allergic sensitivity to the proteins in NRL that often worsens with each exposure, which is a process called allergic sensitization. It may be difficult to recognize that various symptoms can be caused by latex allergy due the nonspecific nature of symptoms and lack of awareness of this type of allergy. Some people may have been sensitized to latex without yet showing external allergic symptoms which may ever develop if exposure is sustained (exposure can occur through direct contact with the skin, eyes, nose, mouse, etc.). It is also known that some foods have similar protein profiles to those of natural latex rubber (Foods that have similar protein profiles and cross react with latex: Banana, avocado, chestnut, kiwi, tomatoes, apples, carrots, celery, papaya, potato, melons.). It is also claimed that food allergy blood tests have poor indication for fruit intolerance or allergy for people with latex allergy. Some of the affected individuals may have serious generalized systemic reactions due to latex exposure

There have not been any major and reliable studies to accurately measure the number of people affected by latex allergy. Some reports claims that almost 15% of health care workers are affected, while others say less. Some reports claim that less than 1% of general population is affected, while others claim over 6%. One fact we do know is that latex allergy has been on the increase for the last decade.

Allergic symptoms range from irritating to life threatening, becoming progressively worse with repeated exposure.

Most effective strategy in the treatment of latex allergy is complete avoidance of any products that may include natural latex proteins, other tips include:

Latex proteins are water soluble, for example health care workers may sensitize themselves after removing gloves and touching their mouths or eyes with unwashed hands.

Latex allergy sufferers should avoid products that may contain latex as well as "latex-prone" areas (such as roadworks when asphalt is being used)

Diet adjustment may be considered

If you have latex allergy, it is important to wear a special necklace or bracelet to inform medical staff about this condition and carry an emergency epinephrine kit at all times.

Vitamins For Hair Loss

Similar to every part of the body, there are several vitamins and minerals you can take to maintain a healthy hair growth.

Vitamin A is an antioxidant that promotes the production of healthy sebum found in the scalp. A good supply of this vitamin can be found in fish liver oil, meat, milk, cheese, eggs, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, apricots, and peaches. Limit your intake to around 5,000 IU. Consuming more than 25,000 IU a day is toxic and can aggravate hair loss instead of curing it and it can lead to other health problems as well.

Vitamin B3, or niacin also promotes circulation in the scalp. This vitamin is found in brewer? S yeast, wheat germ, fish, chicken, turkey, and meat. Recommended intake is 15 mg, and it should be noted that taking more than 25 mg a day may cause a burning sensation due to blood cell dilation called niacin flush.

Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, prevents the graying of hair and hair loss. This vitamin is found in whole grain cereals, brewer? S yeast, organ meats, and egg yolks. The recommended daily dose is 4 to 7 mg.

Vitamin B6 is another nutrient that prevails hair loss and promotes the production of melanin within the body. Melanin is responsible for providing the hair with color. Sources of this vitamin are found in brewer's yeast, liver, whole grain cereals, vegetables, organ meats, and egg yolks. Limit consumption to 1.6 mg a day, as high doses cause you to feel numbness in the hands and feet.

Vitamin B12, found in chickens, fishes, eggs, and milk, prevails hair loss. The recommended daily dose is 2 mg.

Vitamin C is another antioxidant that is helpful for the skin and hair. This vitamin is found in citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwis, cantaloupes, pineapples, tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes, and dark green vegetables. The recommended dosage is 60 mg per day.

Consumption of vitamin E helps circulation in the scalp. It is found in cold-pressed vegetable oils, wheat germ oils, soybeans, raw seeds, nuts, dried beans, and leafy green vegetables. Recommended dosage is up to 400 IU. It is important to take note that vitamin E can raise blood pressure and lowers the clotting ability of the blood. If you have high blood pressure or are taking medication, consult with your doctor before taking vitamin E supplements.

Biotin food supplements also help produce keratin, which is a substance in the body that prevails graying of the hair and hair loss. It is found in brewer? S yeasts, whole grains, egg yolks, liver, rice, and milk. Limit intake to 150 to 300 mcg.

Inositol makes the hair follicle cells healthy. It is also found in whole grains, brewer? S yeast, liver, and citrus fruits. The recommended dosage is 600 mg.

Are You at Risk For Meningitis?

Yes, you are. Anyone can get meningitis. The highest risk groups, though, include:

1. Travelers (especially out of the country).
2. College students (especially freshmen).
3. Adolescents and pre-teens.

Did you know that 10% of people infected with meningitis will die? And some of those who do not die will experience a long-term disability (deafness or brain damage).

How Meningitis Is Spread
It is spread through the exchange of either respiratory droplets or saliva (with an infected person). This can include sharing of cigarettes, eating utensils, or drinking glasses, coughing, sneezing or kissing.

How to Tell If You Have Meningitis.
Meningitis is an infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord. There are two types – bacterial or viral.

Bacterial Meningitis

The symptoms of meningitis are:

* Nausea and vomiting
* Extreme sensitivity to light (photophobia)
* Stiff neck
* Head ache
* Fever (may have sudden sunset)
* Severe fatigue
* Severe pain or ache in the muscles
* Rash

Although both bacterial and viral types can kill, the bacteria type is more dangerous and deadly. The symptoms can appear quickly or over the course of days and typically occur 3 – 7 days after exposure. If you have any of the symptoms listed above or suspect you have been exposed to meningitis see a doctor immediately. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Viral Meningitis

The most common cause of viral meningitis is enteroviruses (and this type appears most often in the summer and fall). Viral meningitis usually clears up without any specific treatment. The symptoms of the viral type are very similar to that of the bacterial type.

Treatment

The bacterial type can be treated with antibiotics. These antibiotics should be started as early in the course of the disease as possible. As for the viral type, antibiotics will not help. In 7 to 10 days, most people with normal immune systems will recover without treatment.

Preventing Meningitis

The single best prevention method is proper hand hygiene. Wash your hands often. Use alcohol-based gels only when your hands are not visibly soiled. Another prevention method is proper cleaning of surfaces. At home you can use a strong bleach solution (1 cup bleach to 1 gallon water) to wipe down hard surfaces (door knobs, counter tops, sink controls). The last method is vaccination. It should be part of the routine childhood vaccination regimen. Other high risks groups should also be vaccinated. If you think you want to be vaccinated, ask your health care provider.

How to Sound Decent When Singing

There's a saying that if you can sing then you were probably born to sing. Now that may be true, but who knows what we were really born to do. I just feel that people who can sing just have a good ear when listening to music. They hear notes in a song differently than others who believe they can not sing. They learn to emulate what they hear whenever the radio or television. I call it the copycat effect. Now in order for you to be good at singing, you would really have to be committed in doing so. The amount of training you will go through is absolutely necessary, but the end result will be worth it.

One of the first things that you should work on is controlling the way you breathe. Everyone must learn to control their breathing, not just singers. This is a vital step in singing. The ability to hold your breath long enough to get the note you are trying to sing will be a difference maker in the way you sound. Breathe support is just one of the many steps you need in order to sing well.

The next step is to set the tone and quality of the way you would like to sing. Basically what I mean is, you should sing at a level that does not strain your vocal cords. To sing with a good tone, you should follow this format. When singing high notes, you should use your head voice. For singing low notes, you should use your chest voice. In most cases, you can use, what teachers call blended tone in which the sound is coming from both the pharynx and the head. The combination is called mask resonance.

Another thing you should watch out for is the type of foods that you consume. Certain foods such as dairy products or any cola drinks can leave your throat filled with phlegm, and that can interfere with the way that you would like to sing. Instead of singing you will be coughing up the phlegm, and that will be a huge deterrent in your ability to sing smoothly.

Overall you have to feel what you are singing. The emotions you feel will help you sound the way you want too. The same way we all learn to talk, is the same way we can all learn to sing and sound good. Maybe if you want your kids to become a singer, you should teach them how to sing instead of talking normal. I'm just kidding.

Of course they're a few exceptions, some people do not even sound good when they speak so it would be impossible to understand them when they sing. You can also get a singing coach that will bring out the singer in you, and they can show you all the necessary steps to being a great singer.

Mastering the basics is the first step in learning to sing and everything else should fall into place. It will take time, effort, and practice. Sometimes if you have the patience and set up a perfect system for yourself, you will see results.

How Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells Can Be Beneficial to Treating Diseases

Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) are used in several types of research. The PBMC are actually any type of blood cell with a single round nucleus. They consist of lymphocytes, monocytes and macrophages, plus basophils and dendrites. Healthy donors are used to collect the peripheral blood cells. They are carefully screened for a large variety of diseases before they can donate blood.

The peripheral blood mononuclear cells are essential to the immune system, in order to fight infections. Mononuclear blood cells are a combination of cell types, which are isolated from the bone marrow, fetal liver, umbilical cord blood and peripheral blood. These blood cells are important for immunology related research. The cells are extracted from blood using a process referred to as ficoll. The complicated process involves using a hydrophilic polysaccharide, which separates the layers of blood. The top layer is plasma, and the second layer has the PBMC cells.

These blood cells are used extensively in research, which includes immunology, infectious diseases, malignancies, hematological malignancies, vaccine development transplant immunology and high-throughput screening. PBMC is produced as needed, fresh or from a frozen inventory. There are numerous diseases being researched at this time.

High Throughput Screening (HTS) is a widely used process of drug discovery by the pharmaceutical industry. Its ability to rapidly screen distinct compounds, such as small molecules, has led to a phenomenal explosion of new data in the past few years. This complex process has demonstrated it can screen 1000 times faster, at 1 millionth of the cost. This recent innovation is possible due to robotic advances and high-speed computer technology. New drugs are discovered more quickly, and it also measures dose response.

There has been a great deal of research and progress has been made for HIV patients, with promising new data. Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a virus found particularly in the salivary glands. This virus is dangerous for infants, organ transplant patients and any person that is immune suppressed. Healthy people usually have no symptoms, but for infants and the immune suppressed population, the virus can be lethal. Thanks to the new research using PBMC, the virus is more easily detected and treated.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, (an auto-immune disease affecting several organ systems), is another disease being researched in relation to PBMC. The conclusion of a large study indicates interferon and protein levels are higher in those patients suffering from renal disease and arthritis. A new medication that specifically treats this disease has been developed.

Squamous cell carcinoma is another disease being researched at the present time. The possibilities for treatment of diseases utilizing PBMC technology appears to be unlimited. The new medications alone are a phenomenal stride toward healing.
