5 Risk Factors for Missed Colon Cancer or Polyps During Your Colonoscopy

The first and possibly the most important is an adequate bowel preparation

The ability to see pre-cancer polyps and colon tumors is dependent on you having colon clear of residual stool. This is dependent on you completing the bowel preparation as prescribed as well as drinking lots of supplemental fluid during the prep. All preps require you to fast from solids for a full day before your exam and only drink clear fluids. If you have had a prior poor prep or have tendency to be constipated, take medications or have conditions that slow the movement of your bowels then you may be asked to stop eating solids two days before your exam.

You will be asked to take one of several bowel preparations as directed by your provider. It has been proven that split dosing (dividing the preparation medications into two separate timed doses, typically the evening before very early on the day of the exam) achieves the highest success rate in adequate clearing of the colon. It cannot be over emphasized that no matter what prep you use; all of them are work the best when you drink lots of clear liquids.

Despite being given very detailed bowel preparation instructions some individuals fail to follow these instructions especially drinking plenty of fluids. Some just fail to drink adequate fluids during the prep or fail to avoid eating the day before or start too late to have adequate time to clear out all the stool and fluid. The patients in whom inadequate bowel prep is noted must be rescheduled for a repeat exam. You don’t want to go through the bowel preparation half-heartedly only to have to have to be canceled or have an incomplete or inadequate colonoscopy that requires a repeat exam.

Non-gastroenterologist preforming exam increases risk of missed lesion

Multiple studies have confirmed that the risk of missed polyps and colon cancers is much higher when a physician other than a gastroenterologist performs the colonoscopy exam. The risk of missed polyps has been reported as high as 50% when colonoscopy is performed by a non-gastroenterologist. If possible you should insist that either a gastroenterologist performs your colonoscopy or a colorectal surgeon who routinely performs many exams a year. Most gastroenterologists perform over a 1000 colonoscopies a year.

Incomplete exam during your first colonoscopy risks missed lesions

Failure to reach the end of the colon is known risk for missed colon polyps and colon cancer. Inexperienced endoscopists and non-gastroenterologists may fail to reach the cecum but not be aware. Photo documentation of the anatomical landmarks of the cecum are increasingly used by endoscopists to document the extent of the exam was complete. If it is not clear from your report that exam was complete you should as

Women and older age

Several studies have shown that the female gender and older age are independent risk factors for missed polyps and interval colon cancers. If you are a woman or an older individual you should be aware of these risks and not be dissuaded from insisting that you had adequate bowel prep, complete and careful withdrawal examination. Some women have more difficult examinations technically than men and older patients may also have significant diverticular disease making the examination more difficult so an experienced endoscopist is important. Also older patients commonly have multiple other medical problems that may influence the endoscopist to try to complete the exam quickly to avoid intra-procedure complications including sedation issues.

Inexperienced endoscopists or those with poor technique or too rapid exam

More experienced endoscopists miss less lesions than trainees and less experienced endoscopists even when time of withdrawal is equal. The accepted standard for withdrawal time is now six minutes or more. Almost all exams report withdrawal time and many endoscopists have known withdrawal time averages correlated with their polyp detection rate. Subpar withdrawal times and polyp detection rates would be an indicator that an endoscopist’s technique is below that generally accepted within peers. Poor endoscopy technique is related to training of the endoscopist as well as number of procedures performed in the past. As the number of procedures increase the skill of the endoscopist almost always improves

Monster Bluegill – A Key to Successfully Producing Trophy Bass in Ponds and Lakes

The Coppernose is a subspecies of bluegill native to extreme southeast United States. It is now commonly stocked in ponds throughout the south. Coppernose bluegill look similar to native bluegill, however the Coppernose can be identified by the copper colored band around the nose. They also have similar diets consisting of insects, crustaceans, and other aquatic invertebrates. Bluegill have small mouths which limit them to a diet of small meals. However, they can consume small fish, including juvenile largemouth bass. This is the main reason not to stagger your bass stocking too long after your forage stocking. Life span is around five years for both native and coppernose bluegill.

Coppernose bluegill have a story comparable to the Florida largemouth bass and in warmer climates, including Texas, Coppernose bluegill thrive. Research conducted in Texas suggests Coppernose bluegill grow faster and reach a larger ultimate size than native bluegill. The largest Coppernose bluegill taken from private water in Texas was 3.25 lbs. Because Coppernose grow faster and get bigger they will produce more offspring than native bluegill. One adult female bluegill can produce more than 10,000 eggs per spawn. This is why they are stocked as the primary component of the food chain to support largemouth bass. Bass have to eat 10 pounds of bluegill to gain a single pound in weight.

Many times we recommend feeding the bluegill to get a good number larger than 10 inches, which gives you a protected brood stock. This means that even your largest bass won’t be able to swallow those bluegill that achieve lengths in excess of 10 inches. Use a pelleted floating fish food of 30-32% protein. You can hand feed or use an automatic fish feeder to disperse feed up to twice a day. Children, especially enjoy watching the fish feed, nearly as much as catching them. Feeding fish regularly will not significantly affect the overall catch rate, but it will at least double their growth rate.

Coppernose bluegill will serve a dual purpose in your pond or lake. Not only are they fun and often easy to catch, they are the backbone of the food chain. They spawn shortly after bass in water temperatures from 67°F to 89°F and can spawn up to five times a season. Also, they mature to spawning capability at only three to four inches. Bluegill spawned early in the season will mature and begin spawning later the same season. Early maturity and frequent reproduction make them an ideal forage fish, and a necessity to grow trophy largemouth bass.

Myths Regarding Math

Math, as a subject, has always been revered by certain people (read mathematicians and scientists) and feared by the rest of the world. Research shows that most U.S. students do not acquire the level of quantitative skills necessary for future studies or even brighter career prospects. We can see it all around us: Increasing numbers of college students taking remedial courses, and comparisons that show US students far behind students from other countries. In fact, statistics show many students who entered college having studied calculus, have trouble with elementary math!

Answers to the above concerns can be found by facing the so called ‘myths’ about Math.

a) Math skills depends on the country we are from

Math as a subject, core or application, is universal in nature – A student from any country or background can compete equally with any other in the world, unlike geography or diction for example, which vary by background. Math being factual and logical by nature, students can grasp the main concept no matter where or how they’re taught.

b) Only scientists and engineers need to understand math

Mathematics is now considered to be a language for all disciplines. It is a science that is useful in most areas of life. The basic understanding of math concepts is not just required in our day to day life, but is also extremely important in several areas like accounting, banking, finance and computing.

c) Only one way to solve any math problem

Teaching math through methods? Think again. A math problem is something related to a real life situation, and every child may have a different way of approaching it. Be open to ideas, and let children figure out their best way, rather than restrict them to traditional approaches.

d) One must memorize a lot of facts and formulas

As discussed before, math is all about getting concepts right and implementing ideas. Rather than just having kids know that 2×3 equals 6, it is important to make them understand that it also means 2 groups of 3.

e) Math can be learnt by repetitive problem solving alone

Parents often think the best way to learn is through repetitive practice of the same kind until kids get it. The reality is, it’s important to realize when a kid isn’t learning, and teach him using a new method or real life analogy then and there. Overemphasis on solving worksheets and repetitive exercises just leads to the development of negative attitude in return.

f) The ultimate aim of solving any math problem is to get the right answer

If you are launching a satellite, it is important to make sure that you counted everything right. No one would like to hear that the satellite failed to launch just because certain calculations went wrong! But the question really is – are you a launching satellite? Or simply learning math? Getting to the right answer should certainly be important to you, but the process of getting there is just as important. Most kids are preoccupied with the thought of getting the correct answer – But the important thing is to understand what you’re doing, rather than just do it.

g) Math is all about Logic without creativity

The truth of the matter is that math does require logic – but not without creativity! Like any other science, mathematics also involves a fair deal of creativity, experimentation and intuitive thinking. In fact, math is an abstract art.

h) You have to be great at calculations to understand math

It is a common notion that a person can be good at math only if he or she is good at calculations. He or She should be able to count quickly, multiply/divide in seconds mentally. It’s usually perceived that use of calculators and other tools like fingers, abacus etc. indicate poor arithmetic skills. The good news is that mathematics is not just about calculating, but rather, understanding the concept and applying a logical problem solving approach. Mathematics today is science of ideas – not just an exercise in arithmetic.

i) Math Aptitude is an Inborn Ability

People believe that success in mathematics depends more on an inborn ability than on incremental learning. But the reality is that like any other subject, sustained efforts can bring students to a satisfactory level of achievement.

j) It’s the Concept that works – not Practice or vice-versa!

This myth talks about the classic case of different opinions of people. Some believe that understanding the concept is enough and you need not practice to do well in exams. On the contrary, some people emphasize on practicing more than understanding.

But the reality is, to do well in exams, practice, as well as clear and thorough understanding of concepts, are both equally important. While the former can be done by extensively solving straight math problems, the latter is developed by solving more of contextual problems, where understanding, as well as practice needs to be implemented.

How Dental Implants Work

Dental implants are 'teeth roots' used in dentistry, to support the 'artificial teeth' which are in turn used to fill in gaps, left after loss of natural teeth for one reason or another. Contrary to what most of us imagine, the difficult thing in this restoration procedure is not creating the 'artificial tooth.' Creating the artificial tooth is really an artistic venture, which almost anyone provided with the right tools can get done. Rather, the difficult part is getting the support for this artificial root on the jaws, seeing that the body tends to be very 'relevant' in accepting foreign objects that interact with it on a fundamental level.

In order to understand how dental implants work, it is there worth noting that in restoring teeth after loss, we are usually not only looking for 'cosmetic restoration' but also for functional restoration. The person in wh the restorative teeth are fitted not only wants teeth that will be 'seen' on their mouth, but also teeth that they can actually chew stuff with.

As mentioned earlier, restoring the structural bit of the restoration tooth is not really challenging. The problem is in restoring the function of it, so that it can be part of the person's active dental formula. The aim to get a tooth that can respond to nervous stimulation, a tooth that blood flows into its root, really – a tooth that is thoroughly integrated with the rest.

For many years, getting such a thoroughly integrated artificial tooth was an insurmountable challenge. Structural integration could be quite easily achieved, even by having an artist study the shape of one's teeth, their arrangement, and then creating an artificial tooth that could seamlessly integrate with the rest at a cosmetic level. But getting functional integration would have called for the development of a tooth (or at least a tooth whose root) the body would integrate with completely – and this was no mean task.

A breakthrough came in 1952, when a Swedish surgeon name PI Branemark, made the observation that given appropriate time, titanium implants could eventually become so well integrated into the body that flood started flowing through them, and they started receiving noisy messages. It is from this that modern dental implants were born. Interestingly, Braneberk's work with titanium was not initially centered on the mouth, though this is where his invention has come to find the greatest application.

So the way the dental implants work is by being put into a part of the jaw where restorative teeth are to be placed, and then given time to heal and integrate. The integration is supposed to be so well that they come to be served by the blood vessel passing thereat. Before their placement to the part of the jaw mouth that they are placed, it is ensured that they are made in such a way that the restored teeth will fit into it perfectly. Once the implants are in place, completed healed and integrated, the tooth for which they are supposedly to serve as a root is introduced: and the person in question ends up with not only a cosmetic restorative tooth, but actually a fully functional restore tooth or teeth, as may be the case.

Drug Free Sleep Aids to Improve Your Life

In recent years the American Drug companies have opened a floodgate of drugs onto the American people. Often times the drugs are designed to treat minor irritations, or as more often is the case, disorders that simply did not exist fifteen years ago. And its not that we've recently discovered many of these disorders, its that many of these disorders were invented as a marketing campaign for a near useless chemical compound that a drug company has found a use for. Which is not to say that all drugs fall under this terrible category. Plenty of conditions out there warrant the use of drugs, and without these drugs many people would suffer far more than they have to now. The problem lies within the fact that drug companies are now chemically treating lifestyle symptoms, and not just medical conditions.

There are several lifestyle conditions out there that are easily treatable without the use of drugs, and that, without having the horrible side effects that taking these drugs come with. Medicines for certain types of high blood pressure are treated with drugs that come with risks of death, when all these people really need is just to take it easy, change their diet and learn to breathe properly. Obesity is being treated chemically more and more often, when really proper diet and exercise is the key. It is an out of laziness that many people take medical options, such as drugs and liposuction, over a jog, and salad. Sleep aids are handed out to people who are already suffering from compound drug and physical addictions, in order to make them fall sleep. But these sleep aids are often just as addictive (if not more so) than the caffeine, sugar, and television that they're already addicted to.

Sleep aid drugs do not actually promote healthy, natural sleep. They are sedatives; they sedate you. Sedation and sleep are not the same things, though they do appear the same. But you have to ask yourself, "does my body go through the proper REM cycles under sedation that it does with healthy natural sleep?" "Am I really rested when I'm using sedatives instead of sleep?" Just because a chemical tranquilizer knocks you out for eight hours does not mean that your body is going through its sleep cycles for eight hours.

Certain things happen to your body when you sleep. One of sleeps functions is to, in essence, check all of your systems and make sure they're working properly, rejuvenate the ones that may be lacking in some way, and basically run your brain through a sort of re-boot and systems check process. However, sedatives sedate your whole body, not just the part that's keeping you awake. There are healthy, natural ways to enhance your sleep cycles, without the use of drugs. These are lifestyle changes that will actually improve more than just your sleep!

Caffeine is a highly addictive drug, more so than most illegal narcotics, but because it does not have any mind-expanding properties, and because it is so heavily capitalized on by major US companies the FDA will not ban its use. Remember, caffeine was originally used as a substitute for cocaine when it's use was banned by the FDA because of its mind-altering properties. Caffeine is equally addictive and chances are, if you're having problems sleeping, you probably have an addiction to caffeine. This is a good place to start. It is a tough drug to beat, but it can be done. Getting yourself off of caffeine will drastically improve your sleep, and will also (because of better sleep) improve your wakefulness in the morning as well.

Another issue with healthy natural sleep is modern distractions; lights, television, music, or video games. When you sleep you should try to make the room you are in as dark as possible. This means no television or games in the bedroom. Sure they're great, but they're also keeping you up! The darker the room, the more naturally you will sleep, and the fewer the distractions the more restful you will remain. Music can be good if it remains consistent, but often times music contains lyrics, drastic changes, crescendos and other anomalies that disrupt sleep. If you feel you need some sound in the room, often to block out sounds of traffic, try a white noise machine. Or, if you're really adventurous get a CD of nature sounds that will loop continuously for hours. These are great because, not only can they help block out disabling traffic sounds, they also simulate realistic sounds of nature that have been shown to be soothing, and rejuvenating to the listener, and they make great sleep aids that will greatly impact your dreams, thus invigorating your REM cycles. Nature sound CDs can also be used for meditation or for creating a peaceful ambiance to your house or office during the day as well.

Another lifestyle change that can help improve your sleep is diet change. Yes, I know; everything these days wants you to change your diet and exercise habits. There is a reason for that. By improving your diet and increasing the amount of physical activity that you get every day you will sleep better! And it will decrease your weight as advertised! Plus, improving your diet and exercise can help lower your blood pressure, as will learning good breathing techniques. The reason there is so much emphasis placed on diet and exercise is because it works, because that's what our bodies have evolved to do! That is how we are meant to function, and when we neglect those things, health and sleeping problems will occur!

Get rid of McDonalds, get rid of Burger King, they have little nutritional value and are doing nothing to improve your life! Start eating high quality foods. It's not expensive. Based on your digestive system, and on the design of your teeth, your body is built to have a roughly 30% meat diet. A soy and horse by-product burger from McDonalds is poor substitute for what your digestive system is actually craving. Start preparing foods at home. It is cheaper to buy groceries for a week than eat out every night, and the foods you eat will be higher in quality as a result.

All of these things, if applied, will greatly increase the quality of your sleep, and as a result will increase the quality of your life. Bad habits are hard to break, but good habits will make it worth the effort! Eat better, exercise better, sleep better, and live better! You will not regret the changes you make!

Ways to Become Healthy in 14 Days

Want to become a very healthy person? Follow these steps and you’ll be on your way to becoming a very healthy person.

Healthy Diet

The most important factor in transforming the body is your diet. You will become what you want to be only when you eat what you ought to eat. Maintaining a poor fast food diet would make you gain fat and lose muscle mass. Follow a strict diet with a lot of fruits, skimmed milk, nuts, a lot of veggies, legumes, lentils, and limit your carbs.Avoid drinking alcohol and don’t smoke cigarettes. Drink lots of water throughout the day and control your urge for food with avocado juice and other fruits.

But first, you need Eggs. Yes! Eggs need additional care and importance on the topic. You have got to eat more eggs and workout a lot to reduce your fat level and increase your protein consumption. Eggs consist of all the nine amino acids for muscle growth (which burns fat more).Cut off your smoothie’s consumption and eat more eggs. White eggs are good for your body. Take that yolk out and use it as a hair product. Eggs give you a testosterone boost which helps you maintain an active lifestyle. As the old saying goes: you just need one hen and cow when asked to choose from a list of animals.

HIIT and Tabata

If you want to see visible results in a few days or few weeks’ time you should work very hard. Sweat is fat crying! And so, get to the gym! After active stretches, hit the treadmill and do a lot of fat burning, circuit training workouts after that. High Interval Intensity Training (HIIT) is the best way to improve metabolism. Burpees, jumping jacks, and high knees will be your best friends. Tabata is the ultimate level of HIIT workouts. Within 4 minutes, your whole body will get tired, and you’ll be gasping for breath.

Strength Training

If your aim is to lose weight as well as an increase in strength, then follow this pro-health tip: Start doing squats, deadlifts, overhead press, bench press, and rows. Your body will thank you for the hardcore workout sessions. Within 45 minutes, you’ll leave the gym but, the benefits these exercises bring to your body is phenomenal. The legendary 5*5 program will create a massive growth of healthy growth hormones. Invest in a pair of good weight training shoes and start killing fat in the rudest of ways ever known to humanity. The Milo of Croton is the best example of strength training.

Active Lifestyle

Sedentary office jobs and online markets have placed a high amount of risk to our body. We should get up and start thinking about the world, walking down the corridors of workplaces. Quit workstations for every one hour and drink more water. Never carry a bottle of water to your workplace. Always get up and take a few steps before quenching your thirst. Never sacrifice your time to do office work. Your body is walking to the grave, and you should delay the journey by all means.

After waking up, drink water and start doing yoga. Get to work. Get up from the seat every one hour. Eat a power packed lunch filled with veggies and scrambled egg whites. Get to your home. Wear your shoes and go to the gym. After a beautiful steaming session, eat your dinner and hit your boozy bed.

Sleep

You can’t get your desired physique by just eating good food and keeping your cortisol levels low. You should get proper sleep for the body to recover properly. Drink milk before bed to stop the intensity of catabolism. A lactose-allergic person can grab a pre-dinner snack and then go to sleep. Most of the people reading this piece will fall into the category of an endomorph (People who have low metabolism and accumulate fat easily). Adequate sleep is necessary to build quality muscles and low-fat levels. Sleep like a child for 7-8 hours and continue your fat burning sessions in the morning.

Life – The most beautiful of all

Remember to appreciate life and don’t be fooled by lame stories of people trying to shut you down. If you want something, you should go and get it. Set the alarm and wake up early in the morning to finish off cardio workouts, HIITs, and killer Tabata. Leave home early to go to the gym. Become confident after seeing your body in the mirror after a week. This arduous journey (if you think that way) shall take you to your fitness goals within six months.

In a year, your friends, relatives, and colleagues will start asking you about your fitness routine. Stay positive and take at least 8,000-10,000 (WHO’s report) steps per day to become healthy and virile. Motivation is the key to succeeding! Stay healthy by reading and working out with these healthy tips.

Esophageal Cancer Symptoms – The Deadly Signs of Acid Reflux Cancer

There are two types of esophageal cancer, depending on the type of cells that are malignant. The first type is found in the lining of the esophagus which is made up of flat, thin cells called squamous cells. Squamous cell carcinoma arise in these squamous cells and usually occurs in the upper and middle part of the esophagus.

The other type is called Adenocarcinoma and usually develops at the bottom of the esophagus that are lined with columnar cells.

Esophageal cancer starts in the esophagus but it can develop outside the esophageal wall and spread to other body parts such as bones, lungs, liver and brain through the lymphatic system.

What Lifestyles Trigger Esophageal Cancers?

While squamous cell carcinoma is related to alcohol and any kind of tobacco use, adenocarcinoma is more related to gastroesophageal reflux disease. The development of adenocarcinoma from Barrett’s esophagus is considered relatively rare, however its number is increasing higher than any other esophageal cancers.

Symptoms

– Chest pain or heartburn

Acid reflux is known to be one of the esophageal cancer culprits. The esophageal lining is not designed to be exposed to the acidic fluid from the stomach so it will cause inflammation in the esophagus and create a burning sensation or chest pain, also known as heartburn. Frequent exposure to the gastric acid can damage the esophageal lining and turn the squamous cells into glandular cells that are commonly found in the intestines. This adaptation develops Barrett’s esophagus which is more resistant to the acid, however people with Barrett’s esophagus have a 30- to 125-fold increased risk of developing esophageal cancer, according to Dr. Romero, a gastroenterologist from Mayo Clinic. Around 10 percent of patients with GERD develop Barrett’s esophagus, and the only way to confirm whether a patient has it or not is by doing endoscopy and biopsy, although endoscopy can’t 100% detect all BE cases. People with Barrett’s esophagus normally seek help because of GERD symptoms such as acid reflux or heartburn. Barrett’s esophagus itself creates no clear symptoms so if a GERD patient experienced no acid reflux symptoms, he/she will probably never be aware of the BE existence.

Barrett’s esophagus can turn into adenocarcinoma, the esophageal cancer that develops at the bottom of the esophagus.

– Swallowing Problem

People with esophageal cancer will find difficulty in swallowing – whether liquid or solid foods – and suffer from pain during swallowing. Food may stick in the esophagus and when regurgitation happens undigested food can be vomited.

– Weight Loss

Many people want to lose weight but definitely not due to esophageal cancer. Swallowing problems may lead to malnutrition because their difficulty to swallow prevent them from eating enough to maintain their weight. The uncontrolled development of the cancerous cells also increase the metabolism in these cells leaving almost nothing to feed the remaining non-cancerous cells.

– Blood Vomiting and/or Tarry Stools

When the cancer is spreading already to the intestines it may cause blood vomiting, blood in the stools and iron deficiency anemia.

Most of esophageal cancer cases are discovered at the later stages of the cancer development, for example when the patients have difficulty to swallow. Due to this reason the cancer is considered highly lethal, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 15%. However if the Barrett’s esophagus is diagnosed at its early stage the patients can make some action plans such as change of lifestyle, do medical check up periodically and anything that can improve the quality of life. Despite there is nothing we can do to stop or cure the Barrett’s esophagus, a study by the Kaiser Permenente Division of Research showed that drinking a glass of wine every day may lower the risk of Barrett’s esophagus by 56 percent.

How to Treat Feline Bloody Stool at Home

Feline bloody stool is something to be concerned about. This can be a sign of a number of medical problems, so it is important to take your cat to the vet. Before you do, you should have a list of the symptoms you have noticed, which will help your vet make a conclusive diagnosis. Beyond that, knowing the best way to treat these symptoms and cure the underlying cause will prevent your cat from having to endure this condition in the future. In the article you’ll learn the symptoms, causes and treatments for blood in cat stool and how to help your cat.

Symptoms of Feline Bloody Diarrhea & Blood in Stool

Beyond seeing blood in your cat’s stool or diarrhea, you may also notice one or more of the following symptoms. Since noting these symptoms will be helpful to your vet, make sure to write them down:

  • Sudden weight loss
  • Drinking excessive water
  • Loss of appetite
  • Frequent bowel movements (more than usual)
  • Decrease in activity, lethargy
  • Exertion or pain during defecation

Causes of Feline Bloody Diarrhea

The causes of blood in diarrhea can include one or more of the following:

  • Bacterial infection
  • Bowel inflammation or colitis
  • Parasites
  • Ingestion of household poisons or foods that cause allergic reactions
  • Antibiotics

Treating Feline Blood Stool

Since blood in diarrhea or stool can be indicative of digestion problems, make sure to feed your cat quality food. Many pet owners do not understand that canned cat food and kibble are processed foods. Some of these food contain dyes, fillers, additives and preservatives. These are not healthy for your cat. Feed your cat natural food that is high in fiber, low in fat and has good quality protein. Refrain from giving your cat table scraps.

If your cat has worms, use a de-worming medication to get rid of them, but do your research before considering the use of other medications or drugs. One of the causes of feline bloody diarrhea is antibiotics, so administering them to treat a symptom that is caused by them is obviously not a smart course of action. Antibiotics have side effects and suppress symptoms, but do not cure the problem. This is why pet owners around the world are turning to homeopathic remedies to treat and prevent problems in the colon and urinary tract.

These remedies contain ingredients that work as effectively as antibiotics, but have no side effects. They work at the cellular level to heal symptoms like feline bloody stool and the conditions that gave rise to it. They will fortify your cat’s immunity and since they are gentle and affordable, they can be used daily to prevent problems from recurring. Best of all, they are convenient: you just sprinkle them on your cat’s food or put a few granules in your cat’s mouth.

Since all natural remedies are not created equal, be sure to do your research. Look for remedies that contain proven ingredients like berberis, cantharis and uva ursi.

Why Practice Yoga? The Mental and Physical Benefits of Yoga

A student comes to yoga because of illness, hoping that yoga can rejuvenate them, and restore health. Another comes to come yoga after hearing of the many benefits, hoping to maintain good health and prevent illness. Others may come hoping to challenge themselly physically and emotionally. And many come to relax and reduce tension and stress, drawn to the contemplative side of yoga. All will find what they are looking for in the practice of yoga.

The list of health related issues that yoga offers relief for is a very long one indeed. The ability of yoga to lower blood pressure and reduce stress assists in recovery after heart attacks. Dr. Dean Ornish, best selling author, has done considerable research into yoga and heart patients, and recommends yoga both to prevent heart attacks and as part of the recovery process. People suffering from Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis have reported a reduction in symptoms after a regular yoga practice. Yoga improves balance, muscle tone, and sees to help fight the fatigue that is part of these illnesses. Because of the focus on strengthening, gently twisting, and lengthening the spine and small muscles that surround it, yoga has a therapeutic effect on many types of backaches and pain. Some sufferers of back pain report complete freedom from pain after maintaining a regular yoga practice. Yoga can also bring relief from sports injuries, ranging from strained hamstrings, IT band pain (common in runners), and repetitive motion injuries at the joints, to strength and loss of flexibility as muscles develop and shorten from athletic training.

Nothing can prevent aging, but yoga can surely make growing older a more graceful and enjoyable process. Although we associate people who do yoga with pictures of the young and beautiful seen in magazines and commercials, most yogis are middle aged and older. They know first hand the numerous preventive and protective benefits of a yoga practice for physical as well as mental health. In the physical realm, yoga builds strength in the arms, legs and core (the center of the body). Strength allows us to lift things, carry groceries, yard waste, and move our own bodies with ease. The practice of yoga also maintains and improves the range of motion in the spine and joints. A flexible spine allows us to reach up to get something from the cupboard, bend down to pick something up, and turn our heads to see as we drive.

Mentally, yoga sharpens and focuses the mind. The postures are always done with focus and awareness on the breath and the body. There is not mindless repetition or chatting while practicing. Focus on the body and breath, how the two work together, the effects physically and emotionally, engage the mind and increase the ability to concentrate. A flexible, strong and active mind is just as important as a flexible, strong and active body. The breathing exercises are meant to remind us to take deep full breaths in and out, not the shallow breath as adults we become accustomed to taking. As the inhalations and exhalations become fuller, the mind becomes calmer and more peaceful. Moreover, yoga instills a deep sense of well-being. The inward focus teachers the mind to let go of stress and negative thoughts. Areas in the body that may be misaligned or holding tension are identified and the tension can be released.

The challenges involved in practicing and studying yoga are on going. The sheer number of yoga postures, with infinite variations, keeps the body stimulated and the mind engaged. There is a complex system of philosophy and writings behind the practice detailing why the breathing and postures are done, and discussing the benefits of meditation as well. Yoga philosophy includes a system of ethics, including non-harming, non-stealing, non-hoarding, truthfulness, steadfastness, and self-inquiry. Legends and histories explain the essence of these teachings, most notably The Bhagavad Gita. If drawn to reading and studying, there are numerous other books offering opportunities to learn about and discuss yoga in this dimension as well.

The postures, breathing, and philosophy of yoga all lead to deep contemplation. The ability of yoga to relax body and mind, leading to a reduction of tension and stress is arguably, its most important benefit. Yoga allows us to become still. During a yoga class, frequent pauses are taken so that we can really notice how we are feeling; the effects the breathing and postures are having on our bodies, and what our thoughts are. A yoga class traditionally ends with students lying on their backs in relaxation pose while the teacher leads a point-by-point relaxation for the body and mind. Occasionally, an interest in formal meditation practice may develop. All of the parts of yoga class are preparation for sitting in meditation.

Penis Health and STIs: Understanding Syphilis

Clearly, one of the key components of maintaining good penis health is the avoidance of sexually-transmitted infections (STIs), as well as the prompt treatment of same in the unfortunate event that one is not able to avoid contracting one. There are numerous STIs, but one of the most well-known – and most dangerous – is syphilis.

Stages

Caused by the bacteria treponema pallidum, syphilis is typically divided into four stages, each of which has its own set of symptoms (although there may be some overlapping).

These stages are:

– Primary. The first stage of syphilis is usually marked by the presence of a sore or sores in the area where the bacteria infected your body. In men, this is often the penis, but it can occur in other places, such as the mouth or anus. The sores tend to be painless and are round and firm in appearance. Sores generally last from 3 to 6 weeks; they will go away even without treatment, but getting treatment is important, as it can stop the syphilis from journeying on to the second stage.

– Secondary. Skin rashes and/or mucous membrane lesions appear in the secondary stage. The rashes may be anywhere on the body, but usually on the hands and feet. It doesn’t itch and sometimes is very faint and hard to detect. The mucous lesions are typically on the mouth, anus or penis. Sometimes there are other symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, sore throat, headache and swollen glands.

– Latent. No symptoms accompany the latent stage, leading many people to believe that the syphilis has gone away. Unless one has received proper treatment, however, it is still there, and it often remains in the latent stage for years – sometimes decades.

– Tertiary. In the final stage, syphilis causes problems with the heart, blood vessels, brain, and the nervous system. It damages organs, may cause blindness and can lead to death.

Fortunately, nowadays there are very effective antibiotic drugs that can treat and cure syphilis; however, to be their most effective, they must be begun as early as possible. That’s why it is very important for anyone who believes they have been exposed to syphilis to get tested and treated right away.

Prevention

Needless to say, preventing syphilis is far more desirable than treating it. Syphilis is contracted from having sex – oral, vaginal, manual or anal – with an infected person. Although no form of prevention can be 100% effective (other than refraining from sexual contact), wearing a condom when engaging in sex is the most effective way of preventing syphilis. Individuals who have syphilis should refrain from having sex until they have been effectively treated, in order to avoid passing it on to others.

Although there sometimes are visible, physical symptoms of syphilis, often they can be hard to spot or may be mistaken for signs of some other condition. It’s important to ask a new partner if they have syphilis.

It’s also important to remember that just because a person has had syphilis once, it doesn’t mean they can’t get it again.

Checking for STIs like syphilis is an extremely important component of maintaining good penis health. But it’s also essential that a man regularly utilize a top drawer penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) on a regular, preferably daily, basis. Take time to find the best crème, which will definitely include vitamin C. Popularly known for its ability to fight colds, vitamin C is needed for proper blood flow, which is essential for adequate penile functioning. It also is a component of collagen, which gives penis skin needed tone and elasticity. In addition, the crème should include L-arginine, an amino acid that contributes to keeping penile blood vessels open and flowing.

Alcohol Poisoning Symptoms

Alcohol is a depressant especially if you drink large amounts of alcohol. Your liver can no longer metabolize the alcohol take therey making your blood toxic. Typically, alcohol drinkers may consume three to four alcohol drinks an hour. They may even start their day drinking. Because of too much alcohol content in the blood, it becomes toxic theby producing alcohol poisoning symptoms. Your body reacts with the high alcohol level through altering the organ functions or vomiting. Generally, aspiration from vomiting is the most common cause of death among drinkers if not changes in the breathing pattern.

The survival rate of an alcohol drinker clearly depends on how well he can recognize the symptoms. Some people believe that only those heavy drinkers suffer from alcohol poisoning. However, this is not the case for all. An individual who drinks first time may have a different reaction to alcohol. This can also depend on the body type and nutritional status of the drinker.

It is important to keep the signs in mind for you to know if someone is in danger of getting intoxicated. These are:

• Hypothermia. Skin may be cold or clammy if touched and observe the person for a bluish appearance.

• Unconscious. Some thinks that passing out after a long session of drinking is fine. However, this can actually lead into coma and this might mean he could die because of asphyxiation or choking. Try to awaken the person by pinching his skin to know if he can be aroused or not.

• Slow breathing. Check the person's breathing and make sure he has a normal and regular breathing pattern.

• Confusion. Observe for mental instability or stupor since it can be another warning sign.

• Seizure. Safety is the priority for someone who is shaking uncontrollably. This is usually caused by alteration with the reflexes and inoxication with the brain cells. Make sure to offer a safe place and call for help.

These signs can also become signs for alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Make sure that you are knowledgeable enough on each one especially if you are a drinker. A glass of liquor may take away your life so being careful is most important.

Penis Protection: Daily Do’s & Don’ts

A man has only one penis (well, except in exceedingly rare cases), so he really needs to practice proper penis protection to ensure nothing untoward happens to it. Maintaining penis health is a major goal for guys, and there are some daily routines they can practice that can help move toward that goal. With that in mind, the following dos and don’ts may prove educational and beneficial.

Penis protection tips

– Do wash daily. Keeping the penis clean is one of the best ways to help maintain its health. Washing regularly can help keep down on harmful bacteria and fungi, as well as battling the persistent penis odor that plagues too many men.

– But don’t wash mindlessly. There’s a right way to wash the penis – using warm (but not hot) water and a gentle cleanser. Hot water can scald the penis, as well as dry out the skin. And harsh soaps can also de-moisturize the penis or cause allergic reactions to chemicals and fragrances.

– And do wash under the hood. Men who are intact need to be sure to pull back the foreskin and gently wash there as well. This can help prevent smegma from building up.

– Do stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is crucial, especially for men in hot climates and/or those who work up a big sweat. Staying hydrated not only is good for overall health, it also provides penis protection. A well-hydrated man is less likely to have dry, flaky penis skin, and he’s also less likely to develop kidney or urinary tract issues.

– Do use a condom. This is one of the key penis protection tips. Unless in a monogamous relationship with a trusted partner, using a condom is necessary to help cut down on the risk of acquiring a sexually-transmitted infection (STI). Condoms are not a 100% guarantee against infection, but they reduce the risk significantly.

– Do ejaculate. Studies have shown that regularly ejaculating may cut down on the chances of a guy developing prostate cancer later in life. Plus, regularly using the penis allows a guy to gain greater familiarity with it, aiding him in his skill with using it.

– Don’t smoke. Smoking is bad for health, period, and works against proper penis protection. It can impact the immune system, which is not good. More specifically, it can also cause cardiac function problems and damage penile blood vessels, both of which can impact erectile function.

– Don’t skimp on sleep. Sure, there’s not enough time in the day to accomplish everything that needs to be done – but cutting down on sleep is no good. Men who get a proper amount of rest on a daily basis are generally healthier – and generally have livelier sex drives and fewer erectile issues as well.

– Do perform a self-check. Feeling around the penis and balls for any lumps or bumps can help alert a guy to potential problems. Also keep an eye out for sores, blisters, bumps, rashes, pains, or unusual discharges. If something seems out of the ordinary, talk about it with a qualified doctor.

– Do aid your penis protection regimen by the daily application of a top drawer penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). Like all the body, the penis benefits from exposure to vitamins, so select a crème that includes a wide range – such as vitamins A, B5, C, D, and E. The best crème will also include amino acids, such as L-arginine. This ingredient works to boost nitric oxide production, and that subsequently can help penile blood vessels to expand and open when extra volumes of blood rush to the penis.

Lead Poisoning: Your Health, Your Insurance Coverage

It was not that long ago when the water crisis in Flint, Michigan took place and residents worried about the lead content. For years, home and property owners and managers, as well as mortgage companies have known about lead risks.

Recent studies about the metal exposure in many parts of the country have raised significant questions.

What is lead poisoning?

This form of toxic poisoning can happen when a perilous level of lead enters the body. Incidentally, small amounts of lead are not good for you, either, and can cause serious health concerns, particular in children under six years of age.

Where does lead come from?

Lead problems typically originate from lead-based paint and lead-contaminated dust. Older homes and buildings are problematic in regards to this. Lead can also be found in polluted air and water and soil. Those working with batteries, apartment or office building renovation may also be at risk, as are auto repair people.

How does one form of poisoning?

All it may take to reduce low levels of lead poisoning is avoiding spots where lead is contained. Patients who suffer from a high level of lead poisoning may need to undergo a treatment called chelation. Family doctors are the best source of guidance in this matter. Of course, avoiding contact with lead sources is the best antidote in the first place.

How does one prevent lead poisoning?

Here are several everyday tips that help residents prevent exposure to lead poisoning.

• After turning on the cold water, let it run for a minute or so before using.
• Wash hands before eating, bed time, and after playing outside
• Sanitize toys regularly.
• Mop all floors on a regular basis. Wipe furnishings and clean surfaces with a damp cloth to maintain a dust-free atmosphere
• Train family members to remove shoes prior to coming inside
• Plant grass over soil patches.
• Plant grass over bare outdoor soil patches, covering sand boxes after playtime
• Eat wholesome meals three times a day.
• Avoid toys, remedies, cosmetics and hair dyes that may contain lead.

What about Property Insurance? Does it Cover Lead Poisoning?

This type of metal poisoning is a controversial topic for most insurance companies – especially when it comes to older homes, buildings and property. Generally, home and property owners must hire a special inspector to confirm that lead is not a known problem before a provider will sell related coverage.

More information about lead poisoning as it relates to property insurance can be learned from an independent insurance agency that is experienced in all areas of real estate.

Hip Hop Blood Sport

The history of hip hop is complete with controversy. Fueled by money, fierce rivalries have been waged publicly by some of the most successful musical artists in the last 25 years. Unlike other music genres hip hop feuds have replied in the death of artists marking it a sport sport of sorts.

The origins of hip hop rivalry in general can be found in the nature of rappers themselves as they tend to do the utmost to best each other. Rappers are like boxers in their persistence to replace the top guy. Early in the 1990's Puffy Combs created Bad Boy records which met with great success as it became the darling of the hip hop industry. Based on the east coast, Bad Boy featured local artists bringing them national exposure.

Meanwhile a movement was happening on the west coast. Rappers like NWA and Ice Cube innovated a new hardcore style of music deemed "gangsta rap." The release of the "The Chronic" by Dr. Dre established west coast music squarely on the hip hop scene. Artist like Snoop Dog and Warren G, bracelets gleaming and chains hanging arrived hungry for the spotlight. These two commercial forces often collided with rappers hurling insults and threats at one another on record after record. Rappers like Mobb Deep, Jay-Z and Nas all participated. The tension culinated as two titans of hip hop, Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, went to war in what would come to be the most notorious of hip hop rivalries.

Biggie was Bad Boy's most successful rapper. Highly talented, he commanded respect in the hip hop industry for his rhyming skills. His counterpart on the west coast, Tupac was reputed as well for his aggressive yet poetic rhymes reflecting on the harsh realities of life. After joining forces with the infamous DeathRow record executive Suge Knight, Tupac began attacking Puffy Combs and Biggie labeling them soft. What ensued was a tit for tat series of verbal insults and accusations that ended with the death of both Tupac and Biggie within a six month span. This rivalry created so much interest that both DeathRow records and Bad Boy records benefited greatly through increased record sales. The lesson was hip hop controversialy sells. Since then there have been numerous attempts by artist to replicate the Tupac vs. Biggie scenario.

50 Cent, the top guy in the rap game today, has been involved in a few rivalries as well. He was in a beef with west coast rapper The Game over charges of disrespect. In the midst of this battle a shootout occurred between the relevant factions. It was ended in a public meeting where bother rappers standing together shaking hands. As a result they garnered worldwide publicity which translated into successful album sales for both artists.

50 cent also instigated a beef with another great artist of our recent generation, Kanye West. He boldly stated that he would outsell West or retire from rap. Much attention was attracted and both albums were hits. There have been recent rivalries involving some of the top hip hop artist including Jay-Z, Nas and LL Cool J.

Rivalry creates drama and controversies which translates to sales. Artists today have continued to manipulate the media by creating drama with other artists but have learned when to pull back without drawing blood. The commercial success of these controversial rappers proves definitively that these tactics are a winning formula which means for the consuming public a continuation of rap rivalries on demand.
