New Multiple Sclerosis Treatment – Hope For the Future

I remember a time, not too long ago, when there weren’t as many disorders as there were just crazy people. Almost daily I encounter someone posting about their eating disorder on social media and for me, that’s a dead giveaway of self-diagnosis and makes me cringe every time. Having had someone very close to me go through the nightmare, I would say the hardest part about the whole experience was the fact that I, nor anyone else, could protect them from it. Not just because of the victim’s blatant denial of the illness, but because you usually don’t even know it’s happening until it’s too late. Eating disorders don’t want attention. In fact, they require just the opposite in order to fester and rewire your brain without interference from others. When you falsely claim you have an eating disorder for whatever the reasoning behind it may be, what this is actually doing is conditioning us to believe that an eating disorder isn’t to be taken as seriously as any other sickness. If anything, eating disorders should be held on a heightened level of caution as they have the highest mortality rate out of all mental illnesses. As a hypochondriac, self-diagnosis is tempting but extremely unhealthy, and not to mention it causes needless stress. It will always be worthwhile in the end to ask a medical professional while sitting in that awful, paper-covered hot seat.

A big part of confidence is showing ownership of your life choices and letting go of any excuses for yourself. Do some critical thinking. If you want to get healthier, analyze your eating and exercise regimen and see what needs modification. Soy foods – soybeans, tofu, miso, tempeh, soy milk, soy protein and textured vegetable protein (TVP), but not soy sauce – offer all the healing benefits of the other beans. In addition, they contain unusually large concentrations of chemicals – isoflavones and phytosterols – with cancer-preventive value. These chemicals may help account for the low rate of breast cancer among Asian women, who eat soy foods as staples.

Breast cancer . Soy isoflavones and phytosterols first came to American scientific attention at a National Cancer Institute conference in 1990. isoflavones, also known as phytoestrogens show the most powerful anti-cancer effects. They are structurally similar to the female sex hormone, and they bind to the same receptor sites on breast cells. But unlike hormonal estrogen, isoflavones and phytosterols do not spur the growth of breast tumors. When the soy chemicals bind to estrogen receptors, they prevent hormonal estrogen from doing so, which in turn prevents tumor growth. Soy foods' marked influence in estrogen metabolism was demonstrated on six women in their twenties with regular menstrual cycles adding two ounces of TVP to their usual diets. Within a month, their menstrual cycles were two to five days longer. Longer menstrual cycles mean less lifetime exposure to estrogen and, many scientists believe, less risk of breast cancer. It was also then substituted the same amount of miso, a fermented Asian soy food, for the TVP and found an even greater effect.

Hot flashes . In Japanese, there is no word for "hot flashes," the uncomfortable feeling of heat that plagues many women during menopause. Hot flashes develop as production of hormonal estrogen declines. It is suggested that the estrogen-like chemicals in soy replace declination hormonal estrogen and prevent hot flashes. Japanese who eat a traditional Japanese diet consume about 24 pounds of soy a year. Americans consume about 3 pounds annually, mostly because soy protein is added to many processed foods. Some continued eating as they had been, while the others' diets were modified to include generous amounts of soy. After four weeks, the ones whose diets were unchanned showed no change in cholesterol levels, but among the soy eaters, average cholesterol levels plummeted 27 percent, to 257 mg / dl.

All About Raindrop Technique

I've been practicing Raindrop Technique (RT) since 2001 and it always amazes me how much better I feel and others feel after receiving a treatment. The essential oils used in RT are very powerful, more so than we can ever imagine!

The essential oils used in RT are only Young Living's essential oils. I do not use nor recommend any other essential oils for this technique. If you receive / give RT with oils other than Young Living's, it's not Raindrop Technique.

ANYONE can learn how to perform RT. You do not have to be in the health industry to be able to give a RT session. If you have a desire to assist people in their healing process you can learn this technique.

What is Raindrop Technique (RT)?

RT is an amazing healing technique using nine therapeutic grade essential oils that are dropped like rain drops along your spine from about 6 inches above your body. The essential oils are worked into your back using light strokes and gentle massage. The essential oils are dispersed through your entire body through your nervous system.

The essential oils are also applied along the vita-flex spinal points on your feet. Applying the essential oils on these points on your feet aid in removing toxins released during the RT session.

RT will help to reduce spinal inflammations which can cause pain, illness and vertebral weakness. Studies have validated that RT can help correct spinal curvatures like scoliosis. What essential oils are used in Raindrop Technique (RT) and what are their healing properties?

What should I expect during and after a Raindrop Technique (RT) session?

RT is most often performed on a massage table. However, it can be done in a separated position (leaving forward and resting on a pillow) with your back exposed. Usually elderly clients who can not maneuver on a massage table will opt for the seated position.

Your RT practitioner will drop the essential oils (one by one) along your spine and lightly massage them into your back. After the application of the essential oils, a warm towel will be placed over your spine to help drive the oils deep into your body.

People usually feel very relaxed and often enter a meditative state during a session. Your practitioner will make sure the essential oils do not create a burning sensation, but sometimes a warm sensation means that the oils are attacking the bacteria and viruses along your spine.

Your practitioner will also apply the oils to the bottoms of your feet with a reflexology technique called Vita-flex.

A session typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour and the essential oils will continue to work in your body for a week or more following the treatment.

After your RT session you will feel quite peaceful so it's best to take it easy for the rest of the day and drink LOTS of water. Try not to shower off the essential oils for at least 24 hours, if possible.

RT supports your immune system and helps bring your body into energetic and structural balance. RT helps to release toxins and disease, and assists your body in its healing process.

The Center for Aromatherapy Research and Education (CARE) provides workshops on how to learn RT and also other essential oil applications such as Vita-flex, releasing emotional patterns with essential oils, healing oils of the bible and detailed learning on the chemistry of essential oils .

I attended this seminar years ago and found it to be an extremely valuable asset to my natural health lifestyle.

Many spas offer RT. Search the spas near you for those who offer RT. Make sure to ask if they use Young Living's essential oils.

Many massage therapists who do not work in spas also perform RT. If your massage therapist is not a RT practitioner, ask them if they are open to learning RT and lend them the instructional DVD from Young Living. Most LMT's are excited to learn new techniques to expand their practice.

What if I can not find a Raindrop Technique (RT) practitioner?

You can easily give yourself a treatment by applying all of the RT essential oils to the bottoms of your feet. Granted, this is not as relaxing (or thorough) as having someone else properly apply RT on you, but your body will absorb the essential oils through the pores of your feet and you will receive benefits.

Just apply 3 drops of each essential oil (one by one) on the bottoms of your feet and cover your feet with socks.

When I feel myself coming down with a cold or flu, I grab my RT oils and apply them to my feet. This boosts my immunity and I remain healthy. Also, if my back is sore, this technique helps to alleviate my back ache.

How to Focus on Folate

Vitamin B-9, most commonly known as folate, plays many critical roles in the body. Folate, along with other vitamins, is an essential nutrient that human beings need to function properly. Your body can’t produce vitamins on its own (except for vitamin D, but you don’t make enough on your own so it’s still considered essential), so you need to ingest them from exogenous, or outside, sources.

Folate’s Function

Folate is needed in order to adequately produce red blood cells. Folic acid also works with B12 in reducing dangerous compounds in the body and for driving multiple metabolic processes. Folate is of the utmost importance to women of childbearing age, as folate is integral in the formation of the fetal brain and spinal cord during pregnancy.

Folate is found in green vegetables, such as spinach, asparagus, and broccoli (the word folate is derived from the word foliage). Like most B vitamins, folate is very easily destroyed by cooking and light, and folate levels decrease rapidly once the vegetables are harvested. The good news is that many foods are fortified with folic acid, an easily-metabolized and stable version of folate. Once serving of most fortified cereals contains your daily dose of folate. Lentils and other legumes such as pinto beans are also good sources.

Folic Acid Supplements:

Women of childbearing age should consider taking a folic acid supplement. Birth defects caused by inadequate folate intake can occur before women even know they’re pregnant, and the damage is unfortunately irreversible. As soon as a woman becomes pregnant, her daily requirement for folate doubles and it may be difficult to meet this requirement through diet alone. Folic acid is a commonly recommended supplement during pregnancy and for women who may become pregnant.

Folic acid supplements are just like getting folate from your diet – they are one and the same and your body processes them the same. Most multivitamins sold in the U.S contain 400 mcg, which is the Recommended Dietary Allowance. Check the vitamin’s label to be sure it says 400 mcg or “100%” next to folic acid or folate. Another option is to take a simple folic acid supplement if you prefer.

In Conclusion:

Making sure you get your recommended daily folate is yet another reason to eat your veggies. Folate is important for everyone, and women of childbearing age should be even more aware of how much they’re getting. Fresh, raw green vegetables are a great source for many vitamins and minerals, not just folate. Keep in mind, fortified cereals are also a great source and doctor recommended supplements are safe for pregnant women. Don’t let this important vitamin slip under your radar!

Weight Loss Versus Weight Gain

In the last few weeks my sudden heart attack sent me into the cardiology ward of the local hospital. Although thinking my body was generally healthy and because I do not take in sugar or salt I was somewhat amazed at the food served in the ward. Much of what I had excluded from my diet was presented to me on the tray for lunch and dinner over the course of the first day.

Not only was sugar and salt included in the meals but it was there in abundance. Observing other patients in the ward the most obvious condition was overweight. The question we all face is how to get rid of it?

While my legs, arms and upper body are relatively fat free my mid spare tyre and obvious deep fat around essential organs has seemed impossible to shift. After 2 years at the gym and a careful diet of less meat and more fish has not seen any change.

So what am I doing wrong? What steps do I need to take to achieve weight loss when it is all about weight gained? The latter has piled on over the years of changed life-style and more sedentary behaviour. The next question is how does this affect my heart?

An angiogram performed prior to discharge showed no blood clot or blockage was responsible for the attack. So what was it?

A recent CT angiogram showed a narrow blood vessel was the likely cause and the prognosis for another attack is rather grim. The doctor informed me that I will probably need a stint to open the vessel and prevent that from happening.

There remains the question of how to get rid of the fat that is causing my waistline to be so extended. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke. Nor do I snack on ‘goodies’ from the takeaway counters or supermarkets. My only indulgence is raw almonds to which I seem more addicted than ever.

If one is doing all the right things and still at risk of a heart attack or diabetes there must be a more direct and easier way of achieving weight loss. Unfortunately, I have not found a solution to this ongoing problem.

8 Types of Lymphoma – All Inclusive

Lymphoma is cancer that begins in the lymphatic system. There are 8 types of lymphoma, but lymphoma is not discussed in terms of 8. There are the two major types of lymphoma and over 30 subtypes. More are discovered every year.

Lymphoma is classified as either Hodgkin’s or non-Hodgkin. The difference is in one specific cell type that is found in Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is named after Thomas Hodgkin who discovered it in the 1830’s. This is more rare than non-Hodgkin’s. Researchers believe Hodgkin’s lymphoma is closely associated with the Epstein-Barr virus. This is dormant in most people but can become active and infect a person.

The chances of getting Hodgkin’s lymphoma after the Epstein-Barr virus has attacked are greater. Hodgkin’s lymphoma usually begins in one lymph node and spreads to other lymph nodes and tissues. People between the ages of 15 and 35 and those who are over 55 are at an increased risk for this type of cancer.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma begins when there are abnormal cells in the lymphatic system that divide without control or older cells in the body don’t die a normal cellular death. Unlike Hodgkin’s lymphoma, this type can spread throughout the body without order. It can affect the organs such as the bone marrow, spleen and liver. The stages of classification are based on where the cancer is spreading in the body.

If a patient has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, it means they have one of thirty

subtypes. These are categorized as:

Aggressive or non-aggressive. This refers to how fast the cancer is multiplying and growing.

Affecting the B-cells or T-cells in the immune system.

The exact subtype must be found in order for the doctor to prescribe the best treatment. Each different type responds differently to specific chemotherapies.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma does not have an age group favorite, but there are some factors that can increase the risk of certain individuals getting non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. These are immune deficiencies caused by AIDS, Epstein-Barr and Hepatitis C.

As with every other cancer, the earlier the cancer is found, the better chance a person has of surviving.

Is It Good To Use Vitamin C For Acne Scars?

Being one of the wonders among vitamins, using vitamin C for acne scars is a great treatment. All vitamins are important, but this one is responsible for strengthening the immune system, it is an antioxidant, and it actively participates in the wound healing process. Since acne leaves behind many scars and open wounds, vitamin C is an important element to be taken into consideration when dealing with pimples, zips, and everything related to this condition.

How exactly is vitamin C good for acne scars?

It produces collagen. Collagen is important in healing and scaring, as it is found in about 25-35% of our body protein content (in tendons, ligaments, bones, cartilage, skin, and so on). It is also an important factor in counterfeiting the aging process.

It is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are very important for our bodies, the essential ones being vitamin A, C and E. Thus, vitamin C protects the body from infections and helps it fight against free radicals (the enemies with which antioxidants fight). How can I provide my body with vitamin C?

Foods that contain high levels of vitamin C include bell peppers, apples, oranges, lemons, broccoli, kiwi, papayas and strawberries. Of course, the list can go on, as the number is far greater than just the examples provided above. If you feel like the dosage you get from these fruits and vegetables does not provide you with enough vitamin C to treat acne scars, you can always ask a pharmacist to give you a bottle of vitamin C supplements.

Another option is to treat your scars locally with vitamin C. For example, apply lemon juice on the affected areas and let it act for half an hour. Your skin will become smoother, younger, and the redness from your face will slowly fade away. All you have to do is be patient.

Is there any possibility that I can take an overdose of Vitamin C when treating my acne scars?

It is very unlikely. It is water soluble, which means that your body will not store it; it will be eliminated very soon after ingestion. This is why you have to consume it daily. However, you will know you took too much when diarrhea or cramping install. Do not exaggerate in your treatment with vitamin C for acne scars!

Acne scars can be treated effectively with vitamin C, but an overdose can have exactly the opposite effect. After all, everything that is too much is harmful to our bodies. But the side-effects will pass in a short period of time. You may want to reduce the dosage for the next couple of days, though.

It is important to keep in mind that a single type of treatment is often not enough to fight severe acne. Combine it with other treatments and you will have better and faster results. For a professional advice, however, always visit a doctor (in this case, a dermatologist) to prescribe you the best treatment with vitamin C for acne scars.
