From the time one first incomes college, it will take the student six to seven years to complete their education in order to work as a physical therapist. The Association can also assist potential students with selecting the school that is most appropriate for their needs and budget. As the field is predicted to grow at an impressive rate, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, those pursuing an education with the intent of joining this field are making a wise investment in their future.

Insights About Drug Addiction

Drugs are used for medication of different ailments. It is sometimes prescribed alone for home treatment or it is advice with equipment like Elisa kits. The problem with home meds is that, they can make the patient take the medicines in high dosage or even if it is not necessary. Unlike in the hospitals, the attending nurse or physician supervises medicine intakes. With this kind of situation, patients tend to drink medicines even after the treatment. They became addicts to the medicines.

Drug addiction is not only about the use of prohibited drugs like marijuana, cocaine, heroin and such. As long as there is an excessive use of drugs, there is always an abuse.

Why people engage in this kind of situations? Most of us may think it is because of society or maybe it is because of the influence by others. As an observation, here is the most common factor why teenagers and adults result in drug addiction.

o Peer pressure- this depends on the society we live in. Now for some, the people around them is the main factor why they become drug addicts. At first, it will be just for fun, a one-time event. Then after, it will become a hobby.

o Influence – in our modern times, everything is accessible- web, televisions and other stuff. Some young men and women adopt the things they watch. For example, they are watching this TV series, and one of the characters uses drugs. He or she also will use drugs TVs claim it is okay.

o Problems- now, it can be family problems or any kind of problem. When you are in the influence of drugs, somehow, you are able to neither relax and think nor feel anything. For some, it is an outlet of their emotions.

o For fun – during parties, teenagers use different kinds of drug for a different kind of pleasure. They are not contented with the intoxication of alcohol; rather, they use drugs for fun.

Having a drug addict in the family, does not only affect the person, but the entire family. Of course, parents usually blame themselves for not raising their children well. In fact, it is the fault of their child.

Parents help their child by taking them to a physician to run some drug test using Elisa kits. After which, if the child is positive to certain drugs, it is the discretion of the parents to take their child to a rehabilitation center or not. Most important is that drug addicts need the support, attention and love of their family. Remember that they are in a state where they cannot even help themselves, so give them the support they need.

Causes And Treatment Of Gum (Periodontal) Disease

Our mouths are generally packed with bacteria. These, together with mucus and other elements, continually create a colourless sticky "plaque" on our teeth. Flossing and brushing assist in getting rid of plaque. The plaque that doesn’t get eliminated could harden on your teeth and form "tartar" which even repeated brushing can’t clean. It is only with professional cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist that could remove tartar. Smoking has been strongly linked with periodontal disease.

The Australian Dental Journal considers periodontal disease to be an opportunistic infection due to the causative agents such as dental plaque and the host reactions that might be modulated by environmental, genetic and other acquired risk factors. Gum diseases range from the simple inflammation to severe disease that could result in some major damage to your soft tissue and the bone supporting the teeth. In the worst of cases, you could lose your teeth.

Who can get Gum Disease?

On average, people typically don’t show gum disease signs until they’re well into their 30s or early 40s. Men are generally more predisposed to gum disease compared to women. Even though teenagers will rarely develop full blown periodontitis, they could develop a more mild form of gum disease known as gingivitis. In the majority of cases, gum disease will only develop when plaque and tartar are allowed to accumulate under and along your gum line.

How Can I know if I Have the Disease?

Symptoms of periodontal (gum) disease include:

– Bad breath which won’t just go away

– Swollen or red gums

– Teeth that are quite sensitive

– Gums that are tender or bleeding

– Loose teeth

– Painful chewing

– Gums that are receding gums or teeth that appear longer

Treatment of Gum (Periodontal) Disease

The key objective of periodontal treatment is control of the infection. The methods and types of treatment vary, based on the scope of your gum disease. Whatever mode of treatment adopted, it will require that you keep up good oral care while at home after the treatment. The dentist could also recommend certain behaviour changes such as quitting smoking so as to enhance your treatment outcome.

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research notes in its NIH Publication of September 2013 that treatment outcomes will be dependent on several things, such as how far the disease your gum disease has progressed, how well you keep up with good oral care at home after treatment and certain known risk factors like tobacco smoking, which could slow or lower the rates of success.

– Deep Cleaning

The dental specialist removes the plaque accumulation using a deep-cleaning technique known as scaling or root planning which scrapes off the tartar and helps in removing bacteria contributing to the gum disease. In some instances, a laser could be employed in removing the tartar and plaque. This modern method results in minimized bleeding, swelling and general discomfort.

– Medications and/or Surgery

Medications could also be employed with therapies that involve root planning and scaling, although these cannot always be used as a substitute to surgery. Based on the disease progression, the periodontist may suggest surgical management, either through flap surgery or bone grafting.

The Effect of Speed on Vision While Driving

Visual Acuity

One of the primary effects of speed is to decrease for objects in the foreground, which are rendered unclear because of the motion and vibration of the car. Investigation has shown that this range of sub standard foreground vision increases by approximately 20 feet for each increase of 10 miles per hour in speed. Thus at 20 miles per hour we cannot see details clearly within 40 feet ahead of the car; at 60 miles per hour, not within 120 feet or more.

Let us imagine a driver with 20/20 visual acuity driving at 60 miles per hour. There is a highway sign ahead with three lines of writing on it. This driver does not know the area – his memory cannot be of any help – so he must read the sign. We have seen earlier that this driver can read 5 inch letters from 280 feet. We now know that when his car reaches a point 120 feet from the sign, he cannot clearly see the details. He has only 160 feet, or 1.8 seconds, to read the sign.

A driver with 20/60 vision cannot see that same sign before he reaches a point 93 feet from it – but his close up vision is affected the same as the first driver’s. Will this driver be able to read a three line message? The problem of reduced close up vision explains why some drivers make emergency stops or slow down abruptly at road junctions, especially at super highway exits. You must always be aware of this danger and be ready for any sudden action by other drivers. If you know the area you are driving in, a short glance at the sign will be sufficient – but remember that strangers who do not know their way will need longer periods of time.

Road departments, having studied this problem, use symbols as much as possible, or make the written message as brief as they can. Super highways always have signs with large and easily read letters.

Field of Vision

Your field of vision is reduced by concentration and speed. When you concentrate on one single object, the field of vision is nil – which is generally what happens with new drivers, because they tend to stare at what they believe to be important. Field of vision is also narrowed by speed. When stopped, a driver’s field of vision may be as high as 190 degrees, but for the same person, the angle will be narrowed to 40 degrees at 60 miles per hour. That is why, whenever possible, highway signs are positioned above the roadway.

Distance Judgment

Good distance judgment is dependent on good visual acuity. Since acuity is reduced by speed, distance judgment will also be adversely affected when you are driving fast.

Understanding IVF Treatments

IVF treatment, is a method of helping a couple to conceive a child if they have been having difficulties in obtaining the child they want. Typically, IVF treatment is the last stop on a road that consist of many different methods to help conception happen naturally, and if all other methods have failed, then normally, IVF treatment is considered.

What is IVF?

IVF is an abbreviation for In Vitro Fertilization, which is a technique that has been around for over 30 years, and babies who have been born as a result of this method of conception, are often nicknamed, 'test-tube babies'. Before this treatment is attempted, doctors and specialists will look in depth in to the couple's medical history, and although that will include both the man and the woman, it is the woman's health that will need to be looked at more closely. This is because there may be underlying and previously undetected health problems that may have a detrimental affect on the embryo once it has been replaced in to the womb.

Various kinds of Treatments

Traditional IVF treatment is universally, the most popular form of the treatment, however, there are a number of variations from the traditional one, and this is to accommodate people who have certain religious beliefs, or because specialists feel that there is a better chance of a successful treatment.

ICSI or Intra Cytoplamic Sperm Injection is another method of IVF style treatment, but one that has one major difference in the technique used from the traditional form of IVF treatment. The main difference between the two treatments is the method in which the sperm is introduced to the egg, in a standard treatment, the sperm and egg are placed in a dish and left to conceive the normal way, with ICSI, the sperm is actually injected into the egg, so that conception is quicker and assured.

One method of IVF treatment has been designed specifically to fit in to the religious beliefs of couples who belong to the Catholic Church. GIFT or Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer, is the only method of IVF treatment that is accepted by the Catholic Church. In this treatment, either the sperm nor the egg is allowed to leave the body in order to be fertilized, and fertilization has to take place naturally.

Hopefully, this article has given you some insight in to the options open to couples who are having difficulty in conceiving the child that they so desirely want, as well as given you more detailed information about the IVF treatment as a whole.

Brain Stretching

Stretching can be a difficult concept for humans to embrace. While most would agree that the idea of stretching, whether it be in regards to muscles, thinking or creativity, is a good idea many of us have trouble practicing it ourselves. People are creatures of habit and when a pattern is learned and it works it's very hard to get someone to reach beyond what they already know. But stretching is essential to not only developing the human body but also the brain. Our minds are just like the other muscles in our body and if not exercised properly will not be as fit or as sharp as we might like.

Brain stretching is the practice of forcing the mind to process new information and to be creative in using that information to solve problems, retain memory and sharpen cognitive abilities. If you do not stretch your brain then you will stagnate in the thought processes that got you this far in life but may not get you much further.

Developing the brain is essential to survival and maintaining a healthy and fit mind. The more you can stretch your brain the more creativity you allow and in turn the more adept you become at solving problems, finding solutions to puzzles and riddles and sharpening your brain's reflexive ability so you can think faster and more clearly.

Mathematics games are just one way you can train your brain to stretch beyond its learned patterns. Algebra, geometry and other math branches force the mind to analyze a problem from several angles to find a solution. Research has shown that many people struggle with math problems and other brain games because they can not "see" the problem and therefore can not be expected to find a solution.

Brain stretching helps open the mind up and allow new information and perspectives to be processed in the hopes of finding a solution to a problem. In school each grade you succeed to come with new challenges and problems that you will not be able to solve simply relying on the skills you learned the year before. After school though many people stop exercising their brain stretching capabilities and fall back on thought processes that have worked in the past. But in so doing you actually hinder the mind's ability to develop and grow.

Through simple yet creative brain training games including chess, crossword puzzles, memory match games and riddles you actively exercise the brain's many skills and in a sense stretch the mind's information processing ability. When you practice brain stretching you will notice in time how much more creative you are at finding solutions to common everyday problems and how much more clearly you are able to think.

Chronic Pain – How to Heal With Spiritual Prescriptions (Part Two)

Part two of a series, this article looks at our option and ability to 'go inward "to access our own innate healing abilities – rather than surrender the income to someone else.

While everyone has the option to have their own best healer, it is not a choice that many have faith and trust in. We've been professionally trained to seek outside ourselves for health and healing.

Ayurvedic medicine, the world's first and oldest system of medicine and healing, states that all illness is caused by a failure of intellect. As odd as this may sound I believe this to be true. With the core beliefs and the stories we make up in our minds, (which are usually rooted in one of the three universal fears), we create physical, mental, emotional, and energetic constrictions in our mind, body, and spirit.

When we decide to unlearn these beliefs about ourselves and the world we unlearn fear. We move toward self-love and our Divine health state.

–We stop accepting fear based medicine and media.

–We stop accepting and believing societal systems that are designed to control us and make "big money" for special interest groups and businesses.

Even in the holistic healing community I've seen fear-based practices used to keep clients "coming back for more" … more therapy, treatments, and herbs.

When I made a conscious choice and decision to get out of my wheelchair and heal my body I also chose to stop believing that worker's compensation and disability systems were designed to support me, or anyone else, for long-term health and prosperity.

I stopped stop settling for the lies and I move toward the truth:

We are energetic creatures filled with a magical, mystical divine life force created by love, destined for the full expression of itself as peace, health, and happiness.

If I can do it, anyone can! You just need the right tools and support.

There is divine order in our bodies, please appearances. Our bodies know how to be healthy. We can let go of believing that we are not worthy of vibrant health or that our bodies are going to break down and turn against us We recognize that we do not have to earn it, beg or pray for it. It is our natural and divine state and birthright. All we have to do is allow it.

How do we allow it? We allow it by aligning ourselves with the truth. We go within, unravel the false beliefs and choose to move toward our wholeness. This is how we become our own best healer and inner authority and stop giving away out power.

This is what I came to know on my 10 year journey. I share the insights that I learned and the tools I used in my book, "God is a Pink Cloud". I was forced and guided by God / Spirit to look inside myself. I was given the opportunity. We are all given the opportunity. But our current beliefs and free will often distract us from it. If you are living with chronic pain or illness your solution may just be a spiritual prescription, not a medical prescription.

Acne Scars: Treatment and Prevention

Acne scars are one of the most pervasive dermatological problems. They are common for people of all ages. Typically, they are a result of inflammation that occurs when bacteria, dead cells and access oil combined together and started pressing on the walls of the skin pore and breaks the follicle wall. Up to 80 percent of people in their teenage years are getting affected by acne. While many of these people recover from the said skin condition without permanent effects, some are left with scars.

There are a few topical skin care medications that can help improve mild scarring. Most acne scars can also be treated by means of skin resurfacing and surgical procedure combinations.

Treatment Options

Not all scars can be avoided even with careful treatment. But the good news is there are now a number of treatment options that you can choose to minimize the appearance of acne scars. Your doctor will check how different your scars are and may recommend you any of the following treatment options:

• Dermabrasion. This is a kind of skin smoothing surgery where the skin's top layers are removed. A special device is used in this treatment option to gently sand the surface of the skin to normal and healthy skin. Normally, an antibiotic ointment or petroleum jelly is applied on the skin to less scaring and scab formation.

• Chemical Peels. In this procedural treatment, a chemical or exfoliating agent is applied on the skin. Among the most common agents used include lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid, glycolic acid, carbocilic acid and salicylic acid. Chemical peels usually range from light to deep strength, depending on the chemical agent used and how much time it should stay on the skin. How much peeling should be made also depends on the skin condition and expected results. Chemical peels are often suggested to those who have mild acne scars.

• Laser Treatments. There are two (2) categories of laser that are used to treat acne scars. These are ablative or resurfacing laser and non-ablative lasers. Ablative lasers take off the skin's outer layer, burning scar tissues and tightening the dermal collagen. Through this way, the visibility of the scar is reduced. In laser resurfacing, erbium YAG laser and ultrapulsed carbon dioxide laser are commonly used. Since the skin is damaged and unprotected tissues are exposed, effort should be performed in wound care and avoiding infection. The skin may redden for a couple of months or even a year afterwards.

Non-ablative lasers sets off changes in the dermis without damaging the epidermis. The newest FDA approved laser for this kind of treatment is called "smoothbeam."

• Filler Substances. For shallow and saucer-shaped acne scars, filler substances are commonly used. There has been an increase in the amount of filler substances used in plumping up acne scars. Cosmoderm, Fascian, Restylane, Artecoll, Cymetra and bovine collagen are available.

Acne Scar Prevention Tips

As soon as acne develops, treat it! The most effective means in avoiding acne scars is by preventing the development of acne into a severe form. Do not wait for acne to go away on its own, but start treating it right away. Consult a dermatologist to know if your acne is unresponsive to topical medications or over-the-counter treatments. As possible, avoid doing things that could irritate your skin like using harsh skin care products and aggressive scrubbing.

What Are the Common Therapy Options?

Therapy has the potential to help people in many ways. It can be useful for those suffering with emotional problems or simply having a bad time, but unable to personally sort out the issues. For many, a therapy session can be more productive than relying on medication. The main purpose of therapy is simply to make someone feel better. There is no guarantee it will completely fix the problems. But it can make a person feel happier and more able to cope with the wide-ranging problems in their life.

Let's take a look at a few of the most common options:

Mental health

One of the major types of therapy relates to mental health which can include an addiction, a phobia, an eating disorder, anxiety and depression. Also, it can be helpful for serious conditions, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.

Life events

Therapy can be a great benefit for those trying to deal with a difficult life experience. This can refer to an upsetting or a sad time, such as losing a job, finding out about a serious illness, or coping with the loss of a friend or relative.

Physical illness

Anyone that is suffering with a health condition that is likely to have a long-term impact on their life may start to experience issues with depression. Beyond the use of medication, a therapy session for those suffering with heart disease, multiple sclerosis or diabetes can see positive benefits and enjoy a better quality of life.

Relationship issues

Therapy for couples is very common and can help those that are just starting to have relationship problems or those experiencing the type of difficulties that come with separation or divorce. This type of therapy can be most effective when both parties of the relationship are involved, but it can still be useful if only one decides to attend.

Troubled families

Many families experience issues that can have a negative impact, but can benefit from therapy. A typical use of therapy is to help children when the parents are splitting up or those with behavioral problems or depression. Other issues may refer to addiction, a mental health condition or an eating disorder.

Overall, the use of therapy can be a benefit in many different situations. Even a minor difficulty can become a major issue over time if no treatment is requested. For those suffering with an issue in their life, it is useful to seek guidance as soon as possible.

How to Prepare For a Cosmetic Dental Treatment

Are you confused about how to deal with your dental misalignment? Well, you need not be anymore. The advancement in cosmetic dentistry has reached a point where it can satisfy all your expectations, but of course, only if you can afford the cost. Anyhow, if you are ready to have your teeth restructured, you must have made necessary provisions you would need to face a full-fledged orthodontic treatment course. Anyhow, you should know that nowadays there are special insurance plans available for cosmetic dental treatments.

This is a new addition in the field of medical insurance industry. However, insurance covers for cosmetic procedures can cost you dearly. Yet it is something to think about when you consider it in the light of constantly rising prices for various orthodontic treatments. Your dentist can provide you with better guidance in this regard. Alternatively, you can enquire with your private medical insurance provider. You might also find online sources claiming to offer cosmetic dental insurance coverage but you never know how reliable these sources can be.

Proceeding further, your next responsibility is to find a good cosmetic dentist, also called as an orthodontist in the medical world. Orthodontic treatments are generally lengthy. It would take anywhere between 6 months to 2 years for a single treatment to conclude. The duration naturally depends on the severity of your issue. During this treatment course, your dentist would require you to have several appointments. Depending on the treatment modality, you would be visiting your dentist at least once in a month. Keeping this aspect in mind, it would be more feasible if you find a cosmetic dentist functioning near your locality. Thus you can save time and energy on traveling.

You should also check the credentials and service quality of your dentist before agreeing for any kind of treatment plan. Remember, apart from being time-consuming cosmetic dental treatments are highly expensive. Hence, unfortunately if you end up with an incompetent dentist, you could be robbed of your money as well as time. Even your dental health can be in jeopardy. So, be cautious of unskilled and inexperienced dentists who are in this profession only to become rich. Ensure that your dentist holds a master’s degree in dental surgery.

Finally, ensure that you are fit enough for a long-term dental treatment. Orthodontic treatments generally require high levels of oral and dental hygiene. You might not be able to continue with your old eating habits. Depending on the safety requirements of your orthodontic equipment, your dentist would dictate new diet rules which may limit your choices. Before starting the treatment, you should discuss all your dental issues in detail. These issues are not limited to the present ones. You should disclose your entire past dental history to your doctor. If you are prone to toothaches or inflammatory gum diseases, you would be requiring special care and treatment. If you are suffering from weakened teeth or gums, your dentist would not proceed with any orthodontic procedure until you are successfully treated for your other issues.

Drug Addiction Success And Regressive Behavior Habits

Drug addiction is known to be difficult to overcome. Sadly, the success rate is countered by a high percentage of relapses. Many can not maintain their ability to stay clean and end up returning to rehab. However, the number of people who have to repeat rehab can be when the person realizes that they can take control of his or her own life. Too often, the addict feels that the addiction is controlling him or her. If the addict is made to feel that he or she is in charge, then real change can take place.

First of all, any enabling behavior by family and friends toward the addict must stop. The addict has to be made to see that his or her choices are their own, and not anything anyone else is pushing them to do. Allow the addict to experience the consequences of drug use. Do not bail him or her out of jail, for example. Let him or her her go to court and experience a consequence of using drugs. Also, do not lend money to an addict if you know it will go to buy drugs. The addict may give you an excuse and promise that the money is to pay an important bill. Do not believe it, and do not give in. That person may be mad at you for a while, but it will not be forever. In fact, when that person is finally free of the thrall of drugs, he or she may even thank you for being so tough.

Making things as difficult on the addict as possible when it comes to obtaining and continuing to use drugs is key. It is only then, once the addict experiences the consequences of his or her actions, that this person may realize that they need help, and will voluntarily go to rehab. People who go to rehab voluntarily, as a result of their own choices, have a much higher rate of success than those who feel forced. Even if rehab does not work the first time, the addict who realizes there is a problem will be much more motivated to try it again and to keep working at it until the addiction is over. It is only when family and friends become truly involved in the recovery process by quitting their enabling behavior that the drug addiction success rate will really improve through all levels of society.

Grief That Is the Ugly Ache That Will not Go Away

Of the 18,693 days I have been alive, there must have been several hundred that I could chalk up as resolute failures. Maybe a thousand or more. But there have been periods – series' of days – of my life when failure, as a contrast, would have been ten times brighter to what I was actually experiencing.

Grief that is inconsolable, as far as a life experience is concerned, is inestimable. In so many ways. I do not believe that there are potential circumstances in all our lives that bring us to the absolute end of ourselves.

Within this kind of grief that casts what was our lives into oblivion, there is an ache so ugly, a hole seemingly so daemonic, we may find it so hard to believe that God could allow this kind of pain.

The pain is unconscible. It is so searing that it completely malforms our existence. It throbs and it threatens. Ever beckoning at our door, it cowers and bustles through the moment we give anxiety a foothold. It comes through in depression that says, 'I can not do this!'

Having encountered this pain known as grave we severely reckon it could be possible. It swarms, then overwhelms. It tracks you and ambushes you intuiting trauma.

And still there is the ugly ache that will not go away.

How many days go past and the justification refuses to be reconciled. If we have enough strength to be courageously weak – the gentle strength of humility that can not be faked – we bear them all for a purpose. That purpose is inanely enigmatic. To a creature crying out for justice it makes absolutely no sense. It's only when we choose to throw justice away that we can make instantaneous sense of it.

That ache that will not go away insist on commanding our attention. It pummels and breaks us. And still we wake the following day for another foray on life. Sometimes we are surprised when a comparatively easy day comes; where energy and hope seem restored. Then, the very next day we are smashed up on the rocks again. And yet that dull ugly ache remains in the cavernous region of our soul.

Grief changes us. It runs over us like a tsunami, without apparent warning, even if we were warned, and it stays far too long, never returning us to where we have been.

Little wonder that people resent the grief in the phenomenon of loss.

Learning to reconcile what has been taken away and may never be returned to us, and may continue to run malformed, is still the option at hand. When we have the option of healing what is unsatisfactory or of leaving what is unfathomable there, we choose the former. We cut our losses. We settle our debts and agree to get out of the town of mental chaos.

Such as it is the ugly ache that will not go away. It insists on having its way. And though we fight it, it remains steadily stubborn until our wisdom kicks in: this can not be beaten, and it can only be accepted. Grief is a crude and cruel negotiator.

The ugly ache that will not go away is the evidence of grief we need to experience.

It is good for us to understand the nature of life that occurs in so many lives. It is a blessing to know the truth, that we do not have anywhere near as much control over life as we would like to think we have.

And strangely, that breeds an unconquerable hope within us; a joy that can not be quenched; a peace that transcends our understanding.

Grief opens up our thinking about life. It challenges us beyond what we comfortably bear.

Grief forces us to change, and when we change, we're fortified by hope.
