Measles, Mumps, and Rubella

Having good martial arts drills is the key to keeping your students, plain and simple. But, the more difficult part is figuring out how to do this? How do you keep the students excited and the lesson planning fast and easy?

The first thing you need to do is take a good look at your own energy level. Surely, you can not expect your students to have a high energy level if you are not bringing on into classes yourself. So, before your classes throw on some blood-pumping music.

Secondly, you need to know your students. Are you dealing with beginners or with more advanced Karate students? The more advanced your students are, the more challenging karate drills need to be. One of the biggest mistakes karate instructors make is to dumb-down their martial arts drills for their older students leaving them bored and ready to quit.

Third, you need to make sure that the other instructors in your Dojo are all bringing in positive energy to their classes. Having a bad day? You need to leave it at the door – bringing in negative energy is a sure-fire way to lose students.

But I have to say that the most important part about retaining your students is having fun, challenging drills each week. Your students wishfully want unique karate drills and kata, not the same repetitive drills you do week after week. Keeping things fresh and exciting is a sure way to keep your students happy and to keep your karate Dojo thriving!

Burn Fat and Lose Weight While You Sleep

Numerous studies show that if you give people the same diet and make the follow the same exercise period, the ones who are sleep-deprived (sleeping 5.5 hours or less a day) lose about 55% less body fat compared to the ones who sleep at least 8 hours a day. Imagine this – you can actually burn more fat just by sleeping more. How is that possible at all? Read on to find out.

There are at least three factors that facilitate the fat burning process in good sleepers.

First of all, it is well known that you produce the greatest amount of human growth hormone at night, but only if you are asleep (and moreover, primarily if you are asleep between 10am and 2am!). This hormone, notorious for its antiannging function, not only helps you build muscle tissue but it also protects your muscles. And, as may have already heard, the more muscle the body carries, the more fat it burns.

Secondly, when you are sleep-deprived (and applies specifically if you are awake between 10pm and 2am), your body produces excess amounts of cortisol , at the wrong time. Cortisol is a stress hormone and it triggers a process that burns muscle tissue, slows down metabolism and encourages fat storage. In other words, cortisol sets off the breakdown of your proteins and their subsequent conversion into fat. So you really want to be sleeping at night to avoid excess cortisol production at the wrong time. (NB: You do need cortisol, of course, but early in the morning so you can have energy to move around).

And last but not least, when you sleep well at night, your body produces melatonin which, as indicated in a recent study published in The Journal of Pineal Research , is a powerful fat burner. Melatonin is another hormone, and it practically increases your brown adipose tissue (ie good fat) which functions similar to your muscle tissue in that it burns white adipose tissue (ie bad fat). In effect, melatonin helps increase your metabolic rate. In addition, melatonin has been recognized as a powerful anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory agent. But you can only produce it at night and only if you are sleep!

So if you want to look good and feel good, hop in bed early and treat yourself to a sound sleep. Stay up late and you will gradually turn into a fat ball.

I remember being twenty nine and feeling like I was the only single person in the world. Comparisons can be useful sometimes. They can help in acquiring certain life skills. When we meet someone for the first time we quickly and sometimes unconsciously compare similarities and differences to know whether it suits us or not to have them in our lives. Professionally, it's good to have a role model to compare to as we grow and improve ourselves and our business; this can create the fire we need to keep growing and get better. Olympians are aware of other great athletes that they have to compete against; they know their strengths and weaknesses and compare them to their own strengths and weaknesses and then come up with their own edge.

But most of us do not practice the art of constructive comparison. We do not use it to feel better and to do better.

The truth is that we do not really know that other people's lives are better than ours. Just because someone is in a relationship it does not mean they are happy. Just because someone is making more money than us it does not mean they appreciate it. Just because someone is slimmer or more beautiful … a lot of people think that they are not good enough, they do not have enough, they have not achieved enough.

Good enough for what? Good enough compared to what? I say.

Respecting or wishing others' accomplishes does not require that you dishonour your own.

This is where the vaccine comes in handy. What it does is that you start to identify your strengths and your assets. You start to be more aware of these, and you play up to them while you keep improving your life, acquiring new useful skills, feeling good, and doing the best you can. Because that is all you can do, the best you can. What Causes Lumbago?

Who has not experienced pain in their lower back? Older people refer to it as lumbago: translated literally, it would mean "weakness in the loins", but this Latin term signifies all-too-familiar lower back pain, a condition that the majority of the population is going to suffer at least once in their lifetime.

It's such a common ailment! However, it has not been so prevalent in the past as it is today. Or, more precisely, the causes of lumbago have not been the same. In ancient times, lower back pain was most likely the result of degenerative diseases like arthritis. Today, it is bad posture and sedentary lifestyle that is causing or aggravating pain in the lower back.

What could be the cause of your lower back problems? Often, it is hard to tell what exactly is causing the pain. Even after getting all the necessary medical tests done, the true cause of lumbago can remain a mystery. In any case, the lumbar area is the one most susceptible to different mechanical problems: small wonder! – it bears most of your weight, while allowing for a wide degree of movement at your waist. This can be hard on your ligaments, tendons, joints, and muscles.

Some doctors will use the term "lumbago" when the cause of the lower back pain is not known. The term itself is not used descriptively: the pain in the lumbar region can be either constant or occasional, acute or chronic, mild to severe, sharp to dull, and it can sometimes radiate into other areas, most notably your legs and buttocks. Stiffness and general discomfort in your lower back can be called "lumbago" as well.

It is said that in only about thirty percent of cases the cause of pain in the lumbar area can be pinpointed. But when the cause of lumbago is diagnosed, it is most often – muscle sprain. Keep in mind that weak back and stomach muscles can also contribute to back pain.

It is not rare for lumbago to be caused or worsened by a pressed or compressed nerve – a condition some would call a pinched nerve. Lumbar pain can also be the result of "wear and tear". This is referred to as rheumatism and often occurs in older people.

Rheumatoid arthritis, infections, some bone disorders and cancers in the spinal area can cause pain in the lower back. However, do not panic: most often, the cause (and the course) of lumbago is quite unremarkable.

Hemorrhoid Removal – The 2 Most Common Procedures

Hemorrhoid removal is something most sufferers of hemorrhoids or piles have considered at some point or another. However, in most cases this is the last resort given the majority of conditions can be remedied without the need for surgical procedures. I will later discuss a treatment which removes the need to have a hemorrhoid removal procedure entirely but for the purposes of this article we will look at two of the most common hemorrhoid removal treatments.

2. Hemorrhoidectomy

A further common hemorrhoid removal method is what is known as a ‘Hemorrhoidectomy’. This is particularly useful for hemorrhoids which have clotted and is one of the last resorts for sufferers. A trip to the local hospital is required. A small injection is made around the anal/rectum area thereby numbing any pain when a surgical procedure is performed (involving an incision and suture) to cut away the swollen pile and any surrounding affected tissue.

If you are suffering with extreme hemorrhoid symptoms then a visit to your doctor will clarify whether your symptoms are severe enough to call for this type of treatment. Thankfully for the majority of cases surgery is a last resort and alternative treatment methods are preferred by patients. There are various creams and suppositories which all can help reduce and relieve the symptoms associated with piles although most of them will do nothing to cure the condition and therefore stop it from returning.

Having suffered with hemorrhoids for many years and considered myself hemorrhoid removal, I can tell you that the procedure is something that you would not want to put yourself through if possible. The History of the Game of Croquet

When people when go out and buy Croquet sets, how many pause to think about the history of the game? Well for those with a more inquiring mind who do wonder about it. let's take a look at the history of croquet.

Modern croquet is a game that has not been around for all that long compared with some others. However its origins go right back to the 14th century if not earlier. The equipment used then did not look like the croquet sets that today's players use. Having said that there were similarities, such as the use of mallets and balls. The name, "croquet," was not used then and the manner of playing was rather different. It's only after a long evolutionary process that we've arrived at the kind of croquet sets that the players of today use and the game they play with them.

There is more than one version of the tale of how croquet evolved and which is correct, no-one knows for certain. It may be that both are right in parts !.

Some say that it's descended from bowls. The theory is that bowls players wanted to continue playing their game indoors in the winter. Because the playing area available indoors would be much smaller they added hoops and mallets to add interest to the game. That would have created a different game entirely.

Then next summer the players tried their new game outdoors and liked it. All this seems to have been happening in France where they called the new game, "paille-maille," or "ball-mallet," in English. Not unexpectedly the name was never actually used in the English form.

According to others paille-maille derived from an outdoor version of billiards It's as hard to see how billiards transmogrified into croquet as it is that has bowls !.

One problem the billiards theory is that although there is precious little documentary evidence, what there is seems to indicate that billiards appeared about a century after we know that people were playing paille-maille. Maybe it came about the other way round so that billiards developed from paille-maille as an indoor version of that game.

The truth is we do not know for certain how all this came to pass. We do know however that that the game of paille-maille was played for centers though never on a large scale. Golfers in Scotland apparently used the game for a form of golf practice in the 16th Century. When King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England in 1604 and moved to London, he introduced both games to the English Court where of course they were made on having been introduced by the King himself!

A hundred years later King Charles II regularly played paille-maille at St James' Palace in London with his courtiers. About then the name of the game became anglicised to "Pall mall." Because it was played there so much a nearby street became known as "Pall Mall," the name it bears still, evidently derived from the English name of the game.

"Croquet," sounds French and it is. In the 1830s a French doctor invented a new version of pall mall as a pleasant way for his patients to take healthy exercise out of doors. He called it, "croquet," which is a French term for a shepherd's crook.

Croquet soon became popular in the fashionable spas in the South of France and, in 1851, an Englishman, John Jaques II, is credited with introducing the game to England. There are accounts of croquet having been bought over to England in the 1850s from Ireland but that may be simply because it was politically expedient to play down the French connection. Ireland would have been acceptable being, at that time, part of the United Kingdom.

Croquet soon became sufficiently popular in England for the Wimbledon All England Croquet Club to be founded in 1868. The club established standard rules for the first time. Then, in 1877, lawn tennis was introduced to the club and more or less took over. The club adopted its new name of the "Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club."

In 1896, the "United All-England Croquet Association," was formed to revive interest in croquet and to be the sport's governing body in England. It fulfills both roles to this day despite now called, "The Croquet Association." The supreme authority today is the "World Croquet Federation".

The game is still popular with people who have a reasonably large, level lawn. The version played in those situations, "just for fun," is known as "Garden Croquet," and is a simplified edition of the more serious, "Association Croquet," played in competition at clubs. Association croquet is played at international level so you can see it is a sport that's still very much alive.
