Follow the above home remedies and the tips below to relieve the symptoms and effects of chicken pox:

1. All juice diet – Put the patient on an all juice diet for a couple of days. Give the patient plenty of raw fruit and veggie juices. Lemon juice is known to be one of the best juices to give the patient.

2. Well-balanced diet – At first, put the patient on a 100% fruit diet. After the condition seems to be improving, switch the patient to a more well-balanced diet.

3. Well-ventilated room – Keep the patient in a well-ventilated room. Be sure to keep the patient from any direct light.

4. Warm baths with neem leaves – Give the patient a warm bath with neem leaves included in it. Neem leaves should be added to the water for the best results.

Vaccinations – 5 Vaccinations Everyone Should Have

Any disease that can ravage and kill a population is one that we should do everything we can to prevent. Unfortunately, we often do not do it until after the damage is done … if even then. Here are a few of the diseases you may want to protect yourself against. Many diseases are harder on adults than on children.

1) Measles : There are several risk factors if you contract measles. One you may not have thought of is blindness. This disease can rob you of vision, even if you take the precaution of not using them while you are ill. The best hope for preventing much damage is to stay in a dimly lit room without television, books or any other visual means of amusement, usually for quite some time. The second risk factor is worse … it can kill you.

2) Rubella : This is also called German measles and three day measles, though the two are not related. It is usually a mild disease, a slight rash and a touch of fever being the main symptoms. The problem is catching it during pregnancy. If it is done during pregnancy … especially the first trimester … it can cause miscarriage and serious birth defects. It is also very easily transmitted.

3) Polio : I may be a bit premature in suggesting you update your polio vaccines, but I have good reasons. Several areas, including parts of Eastern Europe and Africa are having serious problems with the disease. Those areas are a long way from the US, but all it takes is one or two people on an airplane under the right circumstances and that problem will be transmitted to us. This is such a devastating disease, getting protection is a small price to pay.

4) Tetanus : This disease has become so rare in the US that many doctors have never seen a case. This makes diagnosis difficult and often too late. While it typically is transmitted by something causing a puncture wound, that wound may not be noticed … once again until it is too late.

5) Whooping Cough : This disease is easier on adults and older children who catch it, but it is by no means a picnic even then. The cough comes from deep in the lungs and can make the muscles in the area very tender.

What's worse is if an infant catches it. They are not strong enough for the intense coughing episodes and die painfully within a short time of catching it. It is considered epidemiological in several states, and protecting our children should be an imperative.

There is good news. You do not have to have five shots to be protected, just two. TDAP will cover tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough and the MMR will cover measles, mumps and rubella. Talk to your doctor about these immunizations and ask if there are others recommended in your area. It is much better to be safe than sorry.

H1N1 Swine Flu – Ground Zero

Some scientists believe the Swine flu H1N1 virus could have been circulating in humans long before it reached La Gloria Mexico. H1N1 virus was known to have been in pigs on hog farms in California, and actually originated on a California-based pig farm, although the huge corporate farm in question was jointly owned by American and Mexican partners.

The new H1N1 strain’s genetic ancestry also has ties to a pig farm in North Carolina where in 1998; scientists discovered that pig, bird and human viruses had combined in pigs to form a new strain of swine flu. H1N1 virus strain in the United States has been used as the latest emotionally-charged platform in opposition to Mexican immigration. La Gloria’s Mexico residents believe they were sickened by the factory commercial pig farms in the area, which are polluting their air and water with massive lagoons of pig waste.

The pork industry retorts by wanting a closer scrutiny of pigs raised in the residents’ backyards, which may not have been vaccinated for Swine Flu as a preventative measure. The origin of this virus being La Gloria is strongly in doubt so many sources are saying they just don’t know rather than saying it likely came from the USA. Gleaning the news there is no mention at all about where the pigs that were being raised in La Gloria Mexico came from or where the original swine came from, which these herds directly descended from.

The failure to explore or allow full common disclosure of this information, given the circumstances smacks of conspiracy. The reasonable person can not help but think of the facts. Smithfield Foods a USA based corporation out of Virginia has its dependent company raise swine on a hog farm in the secluded mountainous region of Mexico with the blessings of the Mexican government. The Mexican government still has not provided details about its tests on humans and pigs. This looks like a clear case of “follow the money”, Smithfield Foods has the money, the Mexican government needs money, The USA government encourages overseas outsourcing, Smithfield Foods needs cheap labor, and the Mexican government provides cheap labor, bang another NFTA nightmare. Smithfield Foods, the nation’s largest hog producer and pork processor is a Corporate Hog Baron on steroids and being the dominate hand of the pork industry has the clout of the sow pork lobby to suckle the pork barrel politics of Washington DC, they are able to do just about whatever they want.

There is no doubt that the boar’s share of the pork meat produced in La Gloria Mexico is bound for markets in the USA, and Mexico is a runt Third World piglet of corporate lactating greed. The message seems to be that Mexican lives don’t matter, even though the H1N1 virus is capable of charging out to gore humans anywhere in the world as an equal opportunity pathogenic killer.

“At this point, learning the source won’t change how the world must respond to this epidemic”, said Dr. Sylvie Briand of the World Health Organization’s global influenza program in Switzerland. “It’s possible the virus has mutated. In autumn the mutated form could spread to the northern hemisphere and back to Germany,” Hacker told a news conference in Berlin. Labs capable of testing for the H1N1 Swine Flu strain are focused on helping sick people not finding scientific evidence pointing to the starting place of the pandemic, which has now sickened thousands of people around the world and no one really knows how many H1N1 virus has killed.

The United States has ramped up preparations for a possible swine flu epidemic. Canada has confirmed cases of Swine Flu as researchers work to determine how contagious the virus could be. Humans have built the transport system perfect for viruses. Swine flu is now crisscrossing globe in refrigerated trucks which has certainly helped the possible transmission of the virus because it is no longer confined to any specific area, region, or even country.

The U.S. Agriculture Department reported 584.14 million lbs of pork in storage, down from 612.3 million in April, but up from 579.4 million a year ago. What they are not saying is very scary and that is, that whenever all this frozen pork is released to the market the H1N1 virus will be tagging along for the ride, although the government and the corporations remain mute on the subject of viral transmission of H1N1 virus from the carcasses, meat and meat by products of pigs to living human hosts. This is likely the reason no studies or research has been done on the infectious potential of pork meat.

Pigs are often used by the government and corporations for drug and medical trials because the pig has many characteristics in common with humans, in fact pig organs have been transplanted into humans for medical purposes. It only stands to reason that transmission of viruses between the 2 species is more than possible, it is reality. Therefore the danger that swine meat of carcasses poses for potential transmission of decease which includes viruses is essentially the same as that posed by human cadavers, neither is fit for live human consumption being biohazards. Adding insult to injury although the transport of “live” pigs, swine, hogs has been reduced it has by no means been curtailed.

Doctors have confirmed cases of the H1N1 Swine Flu virus in 20 countries, now, for the first time, sick farms worker have infected pigs, per the World Health Organization. H1N1 virus transported in planes from country to country inside farm workers from Mexico has reached hog farms in Canada and re-infected herds of pigs in Alberta Canada this past April. The H1N1 Swine Flu pathogen has gone through a mutation into its current form. The result of the mutation, humans have no protection from the virus. This is why governments worldwide are concerned about the pandemic, the first pandemic in 41 years.

For people with underlying health conditions, there is a higher risk of complications or even death if they get the swine flu. If an outbreak of H1N1 Swine Flu occurs and your baby has a lung condition, your baby may be more likely to have serious complications or even die. People who suffer from asthma have a much higher likelihood of developing severe complications than others.

Almost 41% of Swine Flu hospital patients in New York City suffered from asthma. Within the past weeks, seven deaths relating to swine flu were reported in New York. Of seven fatalities, six of the individuals had asthma. The H1N1 virus is definitely taking the path of least resistance it targets helpless defenseless health compromised members of the human population subsequently these are the ones that often die, not being able to stand the test of actively fighting the virus. However understand that we are the facilitators and defender of the Swine Flu H1N1virus by default or indirect intention. Man creates the correct circumstances for the H1N1 virus’ reproduction and distribution, hog farms slaughter houses static and active refrigeration locations and vessels of transport for pork based food and manufacturing purposes.

If things continue as they have corporations and governments will continue to do what they have always done, provide products based on human demand and totally disregard the health and mortality consequences. H1N1 virus will reciprocate by doing what it genetically programmed to do, kill any living organisms it can invade that has no defense or a very poor one for whatever reason. The Swine Flu virus will do what it did in 1918 kill the weak the sick, the very young, the very old, pregnant females, and anyone that does not have the proper or enough antibodies to fight it. H1N1 virus is on the verge of culling us, we know it lives and hides in pigs, so logically it is better to cull them (pigs) and thereby control the virus.

If not controlled effectively, the virus free will to kill as it chooses like it is doing now! There will be no efforts to commemorate the thousands of “fallen” that are already been, and will be victims of the intentional commerce in H1N1 viral infected pork flesh. There will be no laser lights marking the spot of death, no shiny engraved stone monuments, or even mass memorials for those who died or will die because of pork industry corporate greed and government complicity. There will be only the usual familiar semi celebrity corporate roasts to commend a job well done, for the executives, pork industry lobbyist, and federal regulation cronies. Of course all followed by the great news of another round of golden parachutes as financial rewards for dirty deeds done while the consumer sleeps!

Sciatica In Pregnancy

The period of pregnancy is full of struggles. Women face various problems during pregnancy, and sciatica is one of these. Therefore, you should know the nature, reasons and the ways to deal with it. In this article, we will give you an insight into this problem.

Nature And Reasons For Sciatica:

Sciatica is the pain in the lower extremity. The other name is lumbago. Lumbago is particularly, felt from the lower back, to behind the thighs. The pain may travel down below the knees.

When the sciatic nerve, located on the back, and running through the lower extremitudes, experiences firmness or irritation, you experience lumbago.

Pregnancy and Sciatica:

The main reasons for this pain during pregnancy is your bad body postures. Due to the weight of your baby, you sway forward, and your center of gravity moves forward. Due to this, you are unable to maintain the correct alignment of your body, and to bad body postures. As the baby grows, your abdominal muscles are stretched and can not contract. Due to this, your lower back muscles do not align properly. The result is a severe pain.

Poor or bad body postures during this period are a natural phenomenon, and these may also put your baby at risk. But, you can avoid this by learning how to get better control of your body postures. Due to a change in the center of gravity, your body is right to tilt forward. You can avoid this with a little practice. Your body, then, will automatically adopt the correct postures, without any difficulty.

Treatment for Sciatica:

You can deal with this pain by adopting natural techniques. Medication, at this stage, can hamper the development of the fetus and you may also face problems at the time of delivery. By adopting the correct body postures, you can avoid this pain.

Maintaining Healthy Posture While Standing:

1. Your ear, shoulder, and hip should be all aligned in one line.

2. Your lower back should not sway forward, so, maintain your pelvic tilt at all the times.

3. You should not stand in the same position for a long time.

4. Avoid high heels during this period. Wear low heels comfortable shoes.

5. Wear a maternity support belt.

Maintaining Good Postures While Sitting:

2) Sit in such a position that your knees are at an equal level with your hips.

3) Do not cross your legs. This posture will decrease your blood circulation.

Correct Postures While Lying On Your Back:

You should not lie on your back for a long time. Your large blood vessels may be compressed, reducing blood flow and oxygen supply to your baby. And, if you lie, you should place a pillow under your knees.

How to Display Pictures Well

Everyone wants an attractive comfortable home, but with a lot of possessions to store or display it can be a balancing act between a cluttered look and the "just right" feeling. Good storage is important to help you stay organized and your household running efficiently. However, storage does not just mean tuck items out of sight. A good storage option is to show items that will offer your room personality, whether it's functional or purely for show, like a jeweled picture frame.

As far as storage methods go, everyone has different needs. The same thing does not work for everyone, but there are still a few guidelines that just about anyone can discover to be useful. Possibly the most important tip to get into your head is that you need to declutter. If there's something that you really never use, then you should throw it out so that the things you really must have can be organized well. This means going through everything you have and giving away, donating, or even selling those things you simply do not use. The happy feeling you get when you do this just might surprise you. If you really like it, keep it, but if you are not sure about it, get rid of it.

Everybody's taste in design is different, just like everyone's storage needs. Your display bought to reflect your personality and likes and dislikes, so go with your intuition when arranging your display. Try and think of a display that you typically liked. What was its arrangement? In all probability it considered of repeated themes and things that related to each other. Displaying odd amounts of items together is more pleasing to the eye. When you display items like square gallery picture frames that match in a series, it shows a theme and adds appealing to your arrangement of pictures.

If you simply put things randomly around your room or carelessly suspend pictures on your wall it will not be nearly attractive as it would be if you look at your presentation with the perspective of an artist. One classic theme to go with is arranging things together by color or shape. If you have a big wall space then the perfect thing to fill it with is picture shelves as well as floating shelves. You might even consider bookcases and leave open shelves for picture frames and other favorite objects. These kinds of displays are wonderful because whatever you choose to do right now can be changed in the future to indicate your current mood or new interests.

Make a display on your wall from gallery photos to display your family. You could either use a wide range of styles and shades of picture frames, or you could use the exact same style and color of picture frame for each picture. Make sure you connect them with some kind of similarity though so that they look like they all work well together well. Installing your frames in a random arrangement will allow you to easily add to your display. There are numerous eye pleasing arrangements for wall photo displays and you can create a colorful and creative arrangement with your selection of matting and frame material.

If you'd rather not create a wall display, you can arrange your photo gallery on a table using picture frames that have easel back stands. If you are short on table space, basic double picture frames and triple picture frames are fantastic for creating a picture gallery in limited space. Another excellent option for presenting your photos is a "coffee table" arrangement. Share your photos with all of your loved ones by putting either a beautiful photo album or an embellished box of photos on the table.

Keep in mind that protecting your framed photos by keeping them out of moisture and harsh sunlight is very critical. You may also make sure your photos will not stick to the frame's glass by using acid free mats that are good museum quality.

Put these suggestions into action when you decorate and you're sure to love the results.

Toenail Fungus Treatments – How to Cure

Toenail fungal infection is a relatively common condition. It is becoming more and more common for several reasons. If someone has a toenail fungus they know just how disgusting toenails can become. If left untreated the condition usually worsens.

It makes sense then to get rid of the fungus as soon as you can. Even once treated, toenail fungus can reoccur and must be regularly monitored and preventive measures taken at every corner. Fortunately there are reliably easy ways to prevent further infection.

It is important to first identify the source of your toenail fungal infection. Possible sources are many. Do you workout at the gym and take public showers? Do you go to a public swimming pool? If you walk around barefoot in the locker room this could be a problem as well. Sweaty sneakers could be a cause as well. The best advice to prevent further infection is to wear sandals consistently as any of these places. If you have sweaty feet make sure you have absorbent socks.

An extreme measure to treat toenail fungus is to have the nail surgical removed. Another extreme measure is to take heavy drugs such as Lamasil. These and other heavy drugs have very severe side effects and can result in liver disease or possible death.

Over the counter topical solutions and creams are often expensive and rarely treat anything beyond the most mildest fungus infection. They are usually pretty expensive as well. I've tried numerous of these remedies with little success.

Facts About Ski Trips: Common Skiing Injuries

Changes in modern ski equipment, improvements in slope design, and maintenance helped reduced the incidence of serious injuries. However, we must take note that there are still a significant number of ski injuries that can possibly occur during your ski trips.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), studies have showed that major of injuries that occur to skiers are sprains, fractures, lacerations and dislocations. At present, injury to the ligaments of the knee is a more common injury that occurs to skiers.

Several studies have shown that the most common injury to the knee is the damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL). Physical therapist Jennifer Lewis of Athletes’ Performance in Phoenix, Arizona explains that “MCL injuries occur when a sudden force or twisting motion is applied to the outside of the knee forcing the knee inward, most often when the foot is planted on the ground.” Usually, all degrees of MCL sprains can be managed with bracing and limited range of movement.

Another type of knee injury is the damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). ACSM explains that the injury occurs when the lower leg is suddenly twisted away from the upper leg as in “catching the edge.” Usually, this injury is triggered by a backward fall as the lower leg moves forward. This type of injury often requires surgical repair and extensive rehabilitation.

According to ACSM, 30 to 40 percent of all injuries are caused by the injuries to the upper extremities. The most vulnerable part of the upper body is the thumb. Injury to the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb occurs when a skier falls on an outstretched arm that is still gripping the pole. The thumb is suddenly pulled outward, injuring this joint. Sprains of the thumb are graded as first degree, second degree or third degree depending on how severe the damage to the ligament is. It may just be a thumb, but when an injury to a thumb is not attended to properly, it can result to long-term disability.

Another injury in the upper extremities is the dislocation of the shoulder. After rehabilitating the dislocated shoulder, protection of the joint to avoid recurrence is important. Despite rehabilitation programs design to strengthen the shoulder, dislocation is still possible. Surgical repairs are often necessary to repair dislocated joints to restore its functional state.

Experts speaks

According to ACSM, skiing should be stopped if it causes further pain. In case of injuries during a ski vacation, just remember this initial first aid: rest, ice, compression, and elevation. They also recommend that injuries should be properly evaluated and treated by appropriate medical personnel. In addition, performing sport specific exercises will help delay muscle fatigue which often contributes to the injury.

Moreover, they also advise taking lessons to increase one’s skiing ability and appreciation of varying ski conditions. Likewise, good equipment that is properly fitted and maintained by a certified ski shop will minimize risks. Skiers who understand the risks of the sport have greater chances of avoiding any serious injuries.

With the enhanced equipment used in skiing, the risk of getting serious injuries on ski trips is minimal. However, let’s not forget that certain injuries can still happen if we do not observe proper safety measures.

Seeking for Relief From Trigeminal Neuralgia – 4 Things You Need to Know

Trigeminal Neuralgia, also referred to as tic douloureux, is an inflammation of the 5th cranial nerve (the trigeminal nerve). When triggered, the nerve shoots very intense pain in to specific areas of the face, which is supplied by that nerve. These areas include the forehead, scalp, cheeks, gums, chin, lips, nose and eyes.

• Although typical cases are generally found in men and women over the age of 50, Trigeminal Neuralgia can occur at any age, including in children. A triggered attack can happen simply by a gust of wind, brushing your teeth, applying makeup or touching your face. Normally, these attacks are sudden and unexpected, causing an intestinal reaction that can last for several minutes up to several hours.

• Some medications have been found to be effective, including anti-depressants and anti-convulsions. Seeking out qualified and experienced pain doctors, specializing in Trigeminal Neuralgia treatment, is highly advised, when seeking an effective remedy. Surgical intervention may be required when pain medication has not been successful in treating the ailment, but is generally used only as a last resort.

• Sometimes the disease can have a comprehensive effect on relationships in the family, as any normal interactions such as caressing or stroking can trigger an intestinal attack. Because the episodes come on suddenly and unexpectedly, psychological counseling may be appropriate in learning how to cope with the ongoing fear of unbearable attacks. The symptoms of Trigeminal Neuralgia can sometimes be reversed completely, if a qualified diagnosis has been made within the early stages of the disease's progress.

• Of the clinical studies done on effective treatments for this debilitating ailment, results are shown that medication can make a dramatic improvement in minimizing the symptoms in a large percentage of those afflicted. However, some of these prescribed medicines have serious side effects including skin rashes, constant dizziness and damage to nerve tissue. It is always suggested to have serious discussions with your pain physician when dealing with reactions to side effects.

An effective pain management therapy, conducted by specialized experienced doctors can reduce or illuminate intense painful episodes. Finding a qualified pain management physician is the first step in taking control of the attacks caused by Trigeminal Neuralgia.

How to Help a Sore Throat With Herbs and Natural Treatments

A sore throat can make life unpleasant, whether you are an adult, or a parent caring for a child. Most sore throats respond well to natural treatments, potentially alleviating pain and discomfort, as well as reducing throat inflammation.

A sore throat is usually the result of inflammation, and can result in soreness extending from the back of the mouth to the middle of the throat. A sore throat is a symptom, not a condition on its own. The soreness arises from an undercoming inflammation or infection, and in some cases may need a visit to your doctor and some medication. The body responds to the infection by sending blood and white blood cells, causing redness, pain and swelling. Very uncomfortable!

Allergies, bacterial and viral infections can all cause a sore throat. The virus causing the infection and inflammation may actually be attacking the throat itself via the mucus membranes. Post-nasal drips further cause inflammation and discomfort. A strep throat will normally require a visit to the doctor and you may need antibiotics.

Viral infections develop over a few days, and are different to bacterial infections which can come on very quickly, sometimes in hours. Bacterial infections can cause quite severe pain and may include a fever.

Apart from a visit to a doctor for medications if required, and to rule out tonsillitis, some herbal treatments may help by strengthening your immune system, healing the inflamed tissues and lessening the pain.

Vitamin C can help the body fight upper respiratory infections which may cause colds. Anything up to 1000mg a day could help.

Vitamin A may help with healing the mucus membranes in the throat, and herbs such as echinacea and garlic are thought to have antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Zinc has long been thought to help the body's natural immune system, and to function as a natural antibiotic. Studies have shown zinc may shorten the length of time you have a sore throat.

A tea made of slippery elm or marshmallow root may make swallowing easier and relieve some of the pain from the sore throat. Slippery elm contains compounds which coat the throat, and is available in lozenge form from a drugstore, chemist or supermarket.

Gargling several times a day can help your sore throat heal. Warm salty water may be useful, as may a tea of equal parts slippery elm, raspberry leaf, goldenseal and licorice in a cup of warm water.

Thyroid Cure

Hypothyroidism occurs when your thyroid gland fails to produce enough thyroid hormone. This could be a problem with the thyroid gland itself, or it could have to do with the hypothalamus or pituitary hormone. Both of these stimulate the production of the thyroid hormone. Hypothyroidism disease is an endocrine disorder which is quite common and is seen more in men than in women.

If you are wondering what causes hypothyroidism, most of the cases, around 95% or more, are caused from a problem in the thyroid gland. About 5% or less are caused by a pituitary gland problem or problem in the brain. Causes can include interference from drugs, radiation, treatment postpartum thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis, treatment of thyroid tumors and a condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Symptoms of hypothyroidism many times are subtle. They are not specific, meaning they might look like symptoms of other conditions, and they are often attributed to aging. People who have mild hypothyroidism may not even have any symptoms or signs. As the condition gets worse, the symptoms will usually become more apparent. The bulk of the complaints from this disease are in relation to the metabolic slowing of the body.

Digestive Symptoms – Even with loss of appetite, hypothyroidism can cause mild to moderate weight gain. It can also be the cause of constipation. Patients suffering from this disease can experience severe edema, especially in their lower extremities due to the weight gain mainly being fluid in nature.

Fatigue – A very common symptom, fatigue and also loss of energy will likely be seen when you have hypothyroidism. Plus, this may include low mental energy, which can lead to problems with your memory or concentration.

Sensory Disturbances – Decreased hearing, numbness or tingling in your feet and hands, plus blurred vision are also possible symptoms. Also not uncommon is an intolerance to cold or feeling cold even in warmer temperatures.

Dermatological – You may also see less perspiration, hair loss, and dry hair and skin with hypothyroidism.

Psychological Symptoms – Mood swings, depression and cognitive impairment can all point to this disease.

Pain – Joints and muscles may be achy or in pain, plus you can have feelings of muscle weakness. You could even experience muscle swelling.

Fertility – The inability to conceive and irregularities in menstrual cycles can also occur due to hypothyroidism.

Other symptoms of hypothyroidism can include the yellowing of your skin, brittle nails, hoarseness and a rise in your cholesterol levels.

Symptoms in Children, Teens and Infants

Hypothyroidism is rare in these age groups, but it can occur. For infants, symptoms can include choking on food and a poor appetite. It can also include scaly, dry skin. For teens and children the symptoms are behavioral and also changes in performance at school. They may also gain weight but have a low growth rate. Teens can also have delayed puberty and look a lot younger than their real age.

Progression of the Disease

As the disease progresses and becomes more severe, you may see puffiness around your eyes, a decrease in body temperature, your heart rate getting slower and also heart failure. At its worst, severe hypothyroidism can even lead to a life-threatening coma, or myxedema coma. This coma can be triggered because of a severe illness, stress, surgery or a traumatic injury. The patient then requires hospitalization and treatment right away with thyroid hormones by injection.

With the hypothyroidism tests and the right diagnosis, this disease can be easily easily and completely with thyroid hormone replacement. However, hypothyroidism that goes untreated can lead to cardiomyopathy, or a heart which is enlarged, which worsens your chance of your heart failing, and also pleural effusion, or the collection of fluid around your lungs.

Typically, the severity of your symptoms will depend on your age, how long you've had hypothyroidism and how serious your condition is. Your symptoms could be so mild and going so slowly that you do not notice them for many years. The older you get, however, the likelier you are to notice the symptoms.

Does Your Dog Have Epilepsy?

What is epilepsy?

It is a condition of recurring seizures wherein uncoordinated firing of the neurons in the cerebrum takes place. In dogs, it is not fully understood but it has some similarities with the causes in human beings. Neurotransmitters are chemically imbalanced so the nerves are uncoordinated. An epileptic dog will show uncoordinated firing of the neurons within his brain. These are called seizures, also known as fits or convulsions. It usually starts in dogs at the age of 6 months to 5 years.

Different types of Epilepsy:

1. Idiopathic Epilepsy- The cause is unknown, it may be inherited.

2. Secondary Epilepsy – Normally, a vet will run some tests to rule out possible toxic, or physiological causes before he makes his diagnosis as the dog having idiopathic version. There are many types of seizures seen in dogs and often, the owner is not aware of his pet's condition. Epileptic seizure is the abnormal brain activity manifested in the part of the brain called the cerebral cortex. These abnormalities that cause convulsions vary from petit mal to generalized, full body grand mal.

4 stages of seizure:

1. The Prodome – It lasts from minutes to hours and sometimes days before the actual convulsion. The dog will show changes in his behavior or mood.

2. The Aura – The owner will notice the initial signs during this stage. Some pet dogs will begin trembling, salivating, licking, pacing, wandering aimlessly, hiding, urinating, or whining. Some other dogs may show stranger behaviors like excessive barking and attempts to get the owner's attention.

3. The Ictus – This is the actual seizure stage, wherein the dog may lose consciousness, gnash his teeth, thrashing about his legs and head, crying, drooling, losing bladder and bowel control, and paddling his feet like he is running. Some strange types of seizures in dogs will make the dog suddenly go blank and just stare into space, while others will frantically run in circles. The ones with partial seizures will experience twitching in one area of his body only, it could be in one leg, his face, in his hips, or in the shoulder.

4. The Ictal – It happens just after a convulsion. The dog will act like he's doped, drunk, deaf, or blind. Some dogs may endlessly pace, or drink lots of water. Others pass out and sleep.

Causes of seizures

Seizures can be caused by many conditions: Liver disorders Brain tumors Congenital defects Low sugar (hypoglycemia) or conditions like diabetes mellitus Fever or hyperthermia Heart problems, difficulty breathing, or anemia Kidney disorders Brain damage resulting from trauma or poor blood flow to the brain Infections like canine distemper Low calcium in females that are nursing young Toxins such as antifreeze, chocolate, or lead Primary / idiopathic epilepsy Certain medications the dog is taking What triggers a seizure?

It is unknown but a lot of dogs experience convulsions when excited. Very often, the dog seizures while playing, or when children have just returned from school. One dog had seizures after visiting the vet hospital. Other dogs have seizures while sleep. Do not confuse this with dreaming since it is not uncommon for dogs to shake or bark while sleep. You can awaken a dreaming dog, but not a dog having seizures.

How is epilepsy diagnosed?

Firstly, the vet will obtain detailed history. Neurologic, physical exams, and laboratory tests are then be performed. Sometimes x-rays are also taken. If the vet can not identify the cause of the convulsion, the condition is then diagnosed as idiopathic. No test is yet available to diagnoseose epilepsy per se, the tests simply rule out the other causes of convulsions.

What type of facts about your dog can you hand to your vet to help make the diagnosis?

It is useful if you, the pet owner, can provide your vet answers to the following questions: How does your pet look like when he is having convulsions? How frequently do convulsions happen? What is duration of each convulsion? Observe both sides of your dog if there are symptoms that appear on one side only. Does one side appear much worse? Does your pet dog have hyperthermia? Has he been exposed to poisonous substance? Has your pet undergone any traumatic experience lately or many years ago? Is your pet updated on vaccinations? Has your pet been poorly lauded or with other dogs? Has your pet been sick? In the past weeks, has he been running loose? When and what does he eat? Has he been acting strange laTely or did you notice any changes in behavior? Do the convulsions happen in related pattern to certain activities such as eating, sleeping, or exercise? Does your pet exhibit unalike signs right before or right after convulsions?

Do some dogs have more tension of having epilepsy?

Usually, epilepsy begins to show at 6 months to 5 years of age, typically at 2-3 years. It happens in all dog breeds, that includes the mixed breeds. Epilepsy can be familial, it can be passed on through generations. The Golden Retrievers, Labrador, Cockers, Dachshunds, German Shepherd, Collies, Poodles, Irish Setters, St. Bernards, Beagles, Malamutes and Huskies, Springers are some of the dog breeds with high tension to have epilepsy. Since epilepsy can be inherited, the dogs which has it should not be used to breed.

Treatment

Treatment begins when convulsions are patterned, multiple and severe. You should know your pet dog's pattern so your vet can judge if the treatment helps.

There is no known cure for epilepsy. The aim is to reduce the prevalence, duration, and severity of the convulsions. Oral medications are given to treat epilepsy. Dogs show nonidentical responses to the medicines. The vet may try various combinations of medications to see which is right for your pet. On the start of the medication, most dogs will feel sleepy, but eventually this wears off in a matter of weeks.

The usual drugs used to restrain epilepsy are Phenobarbital and Potassium bromide. They may be used as a single drug or in combination. They should be administrated daily. Before putting the dog on phenobarbital medication, he should have his lab test. Blood levels are also regularly taken. Do not skip or discontinue the medication once it has been introduced, otherwise severe convulsions could result. Almost all dogs taking anticonvulsant will have to continue taking it for life. Some other drugs used for the treatment of epilepsy are carbamazepine, felbamate, primidone, valporic acid, chlorazepate, gabapentine, and clonazepam. Intravenous drugs like valium for fast effect are given to dogs with prolonged convulsions or also known as Status.

Anti-epileptic drugs like phenobarbital may have side effects on liver if high dosage is required. Prior to increasing dosage, liver function test must be taken just to be sure you are on the safe side. Although liver damage is rarely seen even at high levels. It is usual for a dosage level to be effective for a period of time and then the convulsions will multiply in frequency and duration. The dosage then may be increased. On the other hand, if the dog does not exhibit seizures, the dosage may be lowered and still control the convulsions. Keep a calendar of the convulsions with the date and their duration. This will help in determining if there are adjustments needed.

What must I do if my pet dog is having convulsions?

Stay calm. Never put your hand in your dog's mouth. You may get bitten! And it does not help your dog. Put away sharp objects nearby such as tables and chairs to prevent injuries. Place the dog on the floor carefully if he is in a couch or bed to prevent falls. Clear the area of other pets and children. Watch your dog closely and get in touch with your vet if the convulsions last more than 3 minutes or if he has repeating seizures for this is a medical emergency and could be fatal. One mild seizure is not considered an emergency and does not need long term medication. Although you should still report it to your vet. Be sure to record the date, time and duration of the seizure.

Is the BMI Chart an Exact Indicator of Obesity?

You know a BMI chart, with height in feet and ins along the Y axis and weight in lbs along the X axis. How can this weight chart be passed off as real science?

BMI chart is actual science because it conveys really information – a human combination of height and weight suggests an increased risk of dangerous health problem. While Body Mass Index is severely infallible on a individual basis, there's a reason it's been adopted by the WHO (World Health Organization), the Centers for Disease Control and others. Mostly, it works!

Numerous assume that the notification of weight chart was hatched quite recently, some other product of weight-loss modern culture. It's not so. It comes back to the mid-1800s and the writings of the Belgian mathematician statistician and astronomer Quetelet. He compiled extended statistics on the proportions of the anatomy in an endeavor to define the physical features of the average human. He discovered that if he divided people's weight in kilograms by the square of their height in ms, he could use the results to compare several persons body types independently of their size – a useful conjuring trick in his job.

In the 1960's, when those analyzing the relationship 'tween body weight and cardiovascular health began to honestly think about how to measure what kind of shape people were in. Succeeding analysis showed that the Quetelet index, rechristened the Body Mass Index in 1972, as a matter of fact correlated well with other more linear measurements of body fat. Experts have concluded that BMI chart is both a reliable and convenient indicator of obesity.

A great part of weight chart (BMI chart) value resides in its ease of use. Plugging 2 really readily obtained pieces of data into a simple formula gets you a figure that with sensible truth sorts people into 4 classes. Underweight (Body Mass Index below 18.5), normal (18.5 to 24.9), overweight (25 to 29.9), and obese (30 and up). And many analyzes find a clear direct correlation 'tween BMI and incidence of diverse unhealthinesses as arterial sclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, apoplexy and various types of cancer. Mostly the danger factor jumps as BMI chart gets into the obese grade; mortality rates from all causes are 50 to 100 pct greater for those with a Body Mass Index of 30 or higher compared to people with weight chart as normal.

This is not to say that BMI chart is without limits. It's good for estimating the condition of groups of people, only used to assess anyone human it can sometimes make an ify result. Because it does not differiate 'tween fat weight and muscle weight, and because muscle is heavier than fat, people who are muscular tend to score as fatter than they really are. BMI chart also hushes up the effect of fat distribution – superfluous weight carried around the waist is less healthful than extra ins on the hips. The link 'tween Body Mass Index and health Is not all of the time straightforward. For the aged a BMI can be a risky sign. Also found that people with weight chart in the overweight grade may face no greater mortality danger than people in the normal range.

Are there formulas that gauge body fat several precisely? Certainly, but they tend to involve calipers, multistage body measurements, water submergence, etc. So, the BMI chart (weight chart) is seeing your situation as direr than is warranted, only do not ignore the bottom line. The BMI chart, the nurse practiceer, and you yourself all agree, you could stand to lose some weight. At least a 3rd of adult Americans can currently say as is.

I was lucky enough to have mine occur while I was at a hospital for an outpatient visit with my cardiologist. I was put into a wheel chair and taken to emergency right away, which really helped minimize my after effects.

* Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg on one side of the body only.

* Sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding when others talk around you.

* Trouble seeing in one or both eyes.

* Problems with walking or being dizzy or losing your balance or coordination.

* Sudden or severe headaches with no reason that you can think of.

You should call 911 immediately if you or someone that you know has these symptoms. You need to make sure that you are doing what you can so that you are able to keep yourself or your friends or family living as long as you can. A stroke is a very serious problem and anyone that thinks that they may have signs of having one need to pay attention and keep in mind that this is your life and body and you should not take it too lightly. My gosh man, YOUR LIFE!

When I had my stroke I was visiting with my cardiologist and my wife and the cardiologist both recognized my speech was really baddly slurred. Being diabetic, they thought maybe I had high blood sugar (which causes similar effects) and just needed to take a shot of insulin.

We left the cardiologist annd walked down the hall to the elevator. I walked a good 50 yards and then my legs, mostly the left, got really heavy and I could barely lift it. I knew something was wrong and called my wife's name. We were 10 feet away from the elevator. I do not remember taking that last 10 foot walk, but I did it and fell into my wife's arms. Good thing she was strong enough to catch me or I would've gone down. My wife "carried" me out of the elevator into a chir right beside the elevator. She ran to get my cardiologist and they tested my blood suger. It was high, but not enough to cause what was happening to me.

At this point, I passed out again and do not remember the trip to the emergency room, the time in the emergency room or travel to my bed there in the hospital. This memory will never come back and I feel a great void in my life because of just that. A stroke is so scary it is not unusual for a full grown man to cry, knowing he could have just lost his life or been seriously handicapped. I was very lucky. Minimal damage but a very very big warning sign.

Female Hair Loss Types and Causes

There are four main categories of hair loss that affect women. These include androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium and cicatricial alopecia. Cicatricial alopecia is the only type of hair loss that is permanent and irreversible. Cicatricial alopecia only accounts for three percent of all hair loss cases. For the other 97 percent there is potential for improvement.

Hair loss only becomes permanent if the underlying follicle has atrophied or been damaged. Usually this happens slowly and progressively, allowing time for intervention. The best opportunity for re-growth occurs when hair loss issues are addressed and treated promptly.

Identifying the cause of hair loss is the first step in taking the necessary steps to re-establish healthy growth. Each type of hair loss has identifying characteristics.

Cicatricial Alopecia

Cicatricial alopecia, also known as "scarring alopecia," refers to a wide variety of hair disorders in which patches of hair follicles are damaged or destroyed and replaced by scar tissue. Once the follicle is destroyed and scarring has occurred, hair loss becomes permanent. It is important to seek treatment immediately to halt the inflammatory process and to prevent further irreversible follicular damage. Although the hair that was lost will never grow back, treatment may help stop the progression. . There are many types of cicatricial alopecia. Combined, they only make up three percent of hair loss cases.

Androgenetic Alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is also known as female pattern baldness. With this condition the hair does not actually fall out. The hairs in certain areas become thinner and weaker, resulting in less scalp coverage thereby giving the appearance of hair loss.

Only certain pre-determined follicles are affected. These follicles begin to shrink as a substance called DHT mixes with sebum and travels to the susceptible follicles. With each new hair cycle the follicles shrink a little more. Sometimes they may atrophy. If this happens the follicles will cease to produce hair. As long as the follicle has not atrophied, the follicle-shrinking action can be decreed and improvements may be achieved.

A person who has inherited the genes for this condition can delay the sunset and minimize the effects by keeping the scalp clean, healthy, and free of excess sebum. Extreme care may keep a person with this genetic tendency from ever exhibiting symptoms. Applying essential oil formulas to the scalp can help keep the follicles healthy and functioning by increasing circulation, oxygen, cellular regeneration and providing nutrients to the hair follicles.

Any hormonal imbalance can trigger the onset, or exacerbate the effects of androgenetic alopecia. An anti-inflammatory diet may help hormonal function.

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition which causes hair to fall out in patches. Alopecia areata can progress to alopecia totalis – total loss of scalp hair, or alopecia universalis – loss of all scalp and body hair. With alopecia areata the affected hair follicles lie dormant but remain alive. People with this condition have been known to re-grow hair in patches that have been bald up to ten years.

The activation of alopecia areata requires a trigger. Common triggers include viral or bacterial infection, illness, allergens, toxins and emotional stress. Identifying and controlling triggers can deter progress or recurrence episodes.

Anti-inflammatory diets are proving to be helpful in autoimmune conditions. Natural therapies such as scalp massage with aromatherapy or ayurvedic oils have been successful methods to re-grow hair.

Telogen Effluvium

Telogen effluvium is also known as diffuse hair loss because the hair loss occurs evenly from all over the scalp instead of in localized areas. Telogen effluvium is caused by a disturbance to the body. The disturbance may be minor and easy to correct; or it may involve a more serious physical condition requiring medical attention.

Hair loss from telogen effluvium may grow back on its own once the problem is identified and corrected. It is important to pinpoint the cause in order to implement the proper treatment.

The condition of one's hair is an indication of one's total physical and emotional well-being. Hair loss is never an isolated problem. All systems must be working synergistically in order for healthy hair to be produced. Taking optimal care of one's total health can greatly improve the quality and quantity of one's hair.

Understanding female hair loss is the first step to recovery. Learning about the types, causes, solutions and methods of prevention help enable women to understand and take charge of their own hair loss condition.

Treat Cold, Flu, and Ear Infection the Natural Way

With or without medication, the cold or the flu can give you real trouble. You can choose from a variety of medications that can give you some relief in symptoms or you can take the natural approach that may prevent, speed your recovery and help you to feel better along the way.

When is coming to children a cold or flu or other upper respiratory infection can also ends in an ear infection – acute otitis media – that appear in the space behind the eardrum, that is called the middle ear.

This is very common in children younger than age 8, as their immature ear can be easily infected. Their Eustachian tube (the tube that connects the throat and the middle ear) is shorter, softer and more horizontal which is more easily blocked by secretions than those of older children or adults. Also, very exposed could be infants because of their sucking habit. Always keep a breast or bottle feeding baby under an angle to prevent entering the liquid into theirs immature ear.

During a cold, throat infection, allergy or other upper respiratory infection, the Eustachian tube swells and prevents air from entering the middle ear, leading to allowing the secretions to enter to the middle ear and be trapped there. This leads to viruses and bacteria to grow and cause infection.

Using salt therapy you can prevent or reduce the symptoms in cold, flu or ear infection. If your baby has a stuffy nose and has difficulty breast- or bottle feeding or seems to be short of breath, the Salin device is the best. Using Salin during the night, while sleeps, your baby won’t wake you up because of the stuffy nose. He or she will be able to breathe normally, the inhaled saline will open the airways, will clean secretions and kill bacteria, reducing the duration of cold or flu and preventing an ear infection.

In the range of 0.1-2.5 microns – the same size as the most damaging micro particles from auto and industrial pollution, and invisible to the human eye — the micro particles of salt penetrate into every corner of the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli and deposit upon the surface, cleaning secretions, killing microbes and bacteria, leading in turn to a reduction in inflammation. Acting as a mucokinetic, they restore the normal transport of mucus and unclog blockages in the bronchi and bronchioles and upper respiratory tract. The inhaled saline (NaCl) is hydrophilic, so it absorbs the edema from the mucosa lining the airway passages.

In the bronchial tree: Absorption of the inflammatory edema from the mucosa lining the bronchial tree, causing asthma, will be diminished, leading to widening of the airway passages. Also, it humidifies and fluidizes the bronchial secretions in the bronchial tree leading to the relief of the broncho- spasm assisting and improving the treatment of asthma.

In the nose and para-nasal sinuses, edema of the nasal mucosa, causing nasal obstruction, will be diminished, leading to widening of the airway passage in the nose and the tubes of the sinuses and improves the sinuses drainage.

In the auditory tube: Edema of the Eustachian tube mucosa, causing obstruction and otitis media, will be diminished, leading to widening of the airway passages, better drainage of the inflammatory secretions & better aeration behind the tympanic membrane (drum).

The hygiene of the respiratory tract has a very important place in treating an preventing a respiratory infection or ear infection. Here are some tips:

1. Use Salin device and Salt Pipe to clean all the respiratory tract.

2. Correctly blow your nose often – don’t blow your nose hardly as the pressure can carry secretions back into your ear passages. Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently the other.

3. Clean your nose with saline solution: mix 1.25 g salt in 1 cup warm water (body temperature) or you can also add in half-half quantities salt and baking soda. Put few drops in every nostril.

4. Place an extra pillow under your head creating an angle. The best way is to place it under the mattress to create a smooth slope. This will help with nasal congestion and also prevent ear infection.
