For many people, reading before going to bed may be a form of relaxation or a way for them to unwind. If you need to do this to help you sleep or relax, get a book reader or holder so that your arms don’t have to do all the work. Also make sure you are in a position that does not cause your shoulders or head to fall forward. Erb’s Palsy, What Is It?

Erb’s Palsy is usually caused by a birth injury. Known also as Brachial Plexus Paralysis, the injury affects the primary nerves which control movement and feeling in a baby’s arm. It can cause partial or complete paralysis of the arms, depending on the extent of the injury.

What is the Brachial Plexus?

The brachial plexus is the group of five primary nerves which give movement and feeling to the arm.  Consider dietary changes

Maintain a diet that keeps carbohydrates to no more than 50 percent of total calories. The best results in reducing excess weight has been in controlling diet and a moderate exercise program. Small drops in weight have created lower health risks for the person. Most dieters that achieve greater weight loss tend to regain the weight they lost within the next several years. Other methods of weight loss include drug therapy and surgery. Both of these come with risk of complications and mortality risks as well.

In many cultures, obesity represents attractiveness or wealth. This is represented in some of their art work. Someone that I talked with once commented that they were doing work overseas for their embassy. They threw a party and invited several guests. One of their guests commented to them that everyone thought they were very wealthy because they put more than one slice of meat on their sandwiches. Other people in foreign lands receive comments of their apparent wealth because they are over weight. When asked about the comment, the reply is that people of that country could not have excessive weight unless they were wealthy because they could not buy sufficient food to be overweight.

In the last 20 years, the obesity problems in the United States has become a very serious problem. Obesity among adults has doubled and among children has tripled. Children under 19 years of age have an incidence of obesity of just under 20%. In adults, the rate is just over 32%. The recent increases in the obesity rates has public health concerns. A quick look at the environmental issues related to this would reveal some interesting problems with activity levels in addition to marketing of foods that lead to obesity. There are so many other factors that can effect this increase in rate. The change of job types to more desk jobs and less physically demanding jobs adds to these factors. There has been a decrease in walking since you can drive everywhere. The fast food industry has tremendously increased during this time as well.

The bottom line is going to be people taking personal responsibility for controlling their weight problems, exercise programs and general health concerns.

Jesus Christ Our Savior – Was He a Scientist?

Many people across the globe continue to ask themselves about the nature of Jesus Christ, the son of God and what made Him popular across the world in the 33 years that He lived here on planet earth. Was He a political leader, a magician, a sociologist or a scientist? This article examines the nature of Jesus Christ in relation to science.

Up to today many are puzzled about the birth of Jesus Christ by the Virgin Mary who slept with no man. Although she had Joseph as her husband, the Bible says that she did not sleep with him but got pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit, a situation which did not involve the normal biological phenomenon of fertilization. This type of birth, however, is also biological because biology talks about parthenogenesis, a type of reproduction that does not involve fertilization in certain organisms like aphids. Therefore the birth of Jesus was scientific and biological.

He changed water into wine- This was the first miracle that Jesus performed at the wedding of Cana of Galilee (John 2:1-9). This is the chemistry of fermentation but this time from water and not carbohydrates. Was Jesus therefore a chemist? Why change water to wine and it was served to the people at the wedding? This should not be taken wholesale because the dangers of alcohol are well known to everyone. Wine was the drink of the time and He did this out of His concern for the good of the people.

His first sermon on the mount in Matt 5, Jesus refers to His followers as the light and salt of the world. Jesus here is ecologically explaining to the world the importance of light as the source of energy for all living things. Primary producers, the plants, obtain their energy from the sun and the former pass on this energy to other living organisms at higher trophic levels such as herbivores and then to the carnivores. Jesus therefore, urges His followers to be the source of life to the whole world and to provide direction to the many who live in darkness.

The chemistry of salt as a preservative, taste giving, wound healing and its importance in the body’s coordinating system was well understood by Jesus Christ. Without the knowledge of Science Jesus would not have used this example in His teaching. He calls upon His followers to be the salt of the world-preserve, give taste, heal and coordinate the world’s activities accordingly in order to bring harmony among the people.

What about His many miracles of healing and deliverance? Can we call Him a doctor? Since He was concerned with the health of individuals, their need for feeding to prevent them from ulcers and malnutrition as well as their emotional concerns, Jesus can be regarded as a doctor. His love, care and none-discriminative approach are all characteristic of a good medical doctor. So Jesus was a real doctor.

It is therefore; appropriate to call Jesus Christ a scientist. Although He did not attend any formal Science-teaching schools and colleges, all He did and the examples He used during His teachings were scientific. He was a scientist by nature and all prospective scientists should pick a leaf from Him.

Stress Rash – Anxiety Can Cause Hives and Unidentified Skin Rashes

Just as anxiety can cause headaches, stomach problems and insomnia, a stress rash is also a common expression for underlying tension. Stress and anxiety can affect our bodies in a number of ways and the skin is a vulnerable area. If one has an existing rash due to another cause such as an allergy, scabies bacterial infection, stress can make things worse as insomnia weakens one’s immune system and can prevent healing.

Whether stress it the whole or partial factor in the rash, finding effective ways to manage daily tension and stressors without internalizing things to the point of your health deteriorating is very important. Repetitive negative self-statements and excessive worry can wreak havoc on our immune systems.

Ask yourself if the events you are bothered by will be on your mind three months from now. Many things that disturb us are very temporary. For instance, the attitude of someone in a drug store towards you, disappointment at getting a traffic ticket or anger about another pimple will fade away quickly. However, in the presence of the moment, they can seem huge and snowball with other thoughts. The traffic ticket situation can grow into negative thoughts such as, “Nothing ever goes my way. I am always getting the short end of the stick.” It is these types of thoughts that can drag us down and give us somatic complaints such as headaches, loose bowels and the hives stress rash.

In addition to asking yourself if the situation will bother you in three months from now, have a way to diffuse the inner agitation. It can be through taking a long walk, swimming, having a funny YouTube clip you play, using relaxation CDs, doing a yoga routine or remembering what really matters.

Situation in life will always be happening and we need to master them in order to not feel victimized. If you get a stress rash, you may need an antihistamine to get relief from the itching. Take this so you can get a good night’s sleep. Use anti-inflammatory creams to control the rash. An oatmeal bath is very therapeutic. Find ways to look at your boss, in-laws and even kids with humor and not as such intense melodramas.In the US one out of 8 people have an anxiety disorder and this is close to 20 million people. A stress rash is very common but it’s also good to diagnose it to see if the root may be an infection,excessive perspiration, insect bite, poisonous plant or allergic reaction.

Sore Penis Syndrome the Causes Symptoms and Best Treatments

A sore penis can be painful, ache or throb, and even show signs of swelling or inflammation. In fact, a sore penis can refer to any part of the penis, internal or external, that is causing some kind of discomfort.

Typically, the penis consists of four main parts, the bulb, which connects the penis to the abdomen, the shaft or body of the penis, the Glans or head of the penis, and the urethra, which is sometimes referred to as the urinary and seminal tract. Penis pain can develop in any one, or a number of these areas depending on what the cause of the penis pain is. Or, it may develop in the surrounding areas of the body such as the prostate, testicles, bladder or abdomen.

Sore Penis Causes

Penis pain may be a dull ache or a sharp pain that can often be accompanied by heat and inflammation, which is a sign that the body is trying to repair damage. There are more than 15 different causes of penis pain. Some may be the result of trauma or aggressive sexual activity, while others are caused by infections and other illnesses. The most common causes of penis pain are as follows:

Allergies– an allergic reaction to something that the penis has come into contact with. This can include soaps, detergents, creams, condoms, latex, fabrics and other materials;

Balanitis– an inflammation or swelling of the head (glans) of the penis;

Bladder Stones – hard mineral deposits that accumulate in the bladder;

Legions and Sores – open wounds, cuts and abrasions on the penis, which may be the result of vigorous sexual activity, aggressive sex or the fact that a sexual partner has stubble or other objects on their genitalia that may irritate or scratch the skin of the penis. Also on list of causes of open sores are STD’s.

Paraphimosis– the inability to retract the foreskin of the penis on an uncircumcised male due to tightening of the skin;

Penile Cancer – a growth, legion or sore that is malignant and can be found on the surface or within the tissue of the penis;

Penile Implants and Surgery – an implant in the penis or a surgical procedure that has been recently performed may be irritating the penis or it may have become infected;

Penis Fracture – a rupture of one or both of the cambers within the penis that enable it to become erect;

Peyronies Disease – scar tissue in the penis that results in the penis developing a curve or abnormal bend;

Pimples – an infection of skin pores or hair follicles that is the result of bacterial build-up;

Poor Hygiene – regular showering and cleansing of the penis and surrounding areas is a must, if this does not occur then the skin may become irritated or infected;

Priapism – an erection of the penis that is persistent and will not subside;

Prostatitis – an infection of the prostate gland;

Sickle Cell Anemia – a blood disease that affects the hemoglobin, or the protein in the blood that carries oxygen through the body and can restrict penile function;

STD’s and Other Infections – Chlamydia, genital herpes, scabies and crabs, thrush and other forms of infections;

Testicular Bruising – discoloration to the testicles as a result of a trauma during activity of some kind, this may occur during sports or other recreational pursuits or during sexual activity;

Urethra Damage – damage to the tube that runs from the head of the penis to the bladder or seminal duct. This can include bruising, cuts and abrasions, blockages, and other forms of trauma; and

Urethritis – a bacterial infection of the reproductive system, which may also affect the bladder and prostate in men.

Sore Penis Symptoms

The symptoms of penis pain vary, depending on the cause of the pain. However, the most common symptoms of a sore penis are as follows:

Erectile dysfunction, difficulty urinating, painful ejaculation, penis bruising, bleeding and swelling, penis lumps and sores, penis rashes and itching, and urethral discharge.

Sore Penis Treatment

If any pain is experienced from the penis or the penis is sore, it is recommended that immediate medical attention be sought as some conditions can have long-term side effects and in some cases can be life-threatening. Medical advice also reduces the risk of permanent skin damage, impairment of penis and sexual function, and possible complications that can result in major organ damage. Treatments, for the causes listed, typically include abstaining from any sexual activity, oral and prescription medicines, crèmes, injections and other forms of therapies, as well as surgery.

Psoriasis is one of the most common skin problems and can be caused by a wide range of factors often working together. Psoriasis is an indication that the body has toxic build up. The toxins have overloaded the liver and kidneys in particular. The toxins are circulating in the blood and the body is trying to remove them via the skin. What you can do to treat psoriasis

  • It is important that you assist your body to remove toxins and limit your exposure to as many toxins as you are able. This means helping your colon, liver and kidneys in particular. You also need to remove as many toxic chemicals from your environment as you can – anything that you do to reduce the toxic load that you body has to deal with will be of benefit.
  • Avoid alcohol as it has a toxic effect on the body and places a great strain on your liver.
  • Undertake measures to manage stress levels.
  • Eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as possible.
  • Avoid eating wheat, oats, barley and rye, to which you may have a food sensitivity.
  • Increase your intake of essential fatty acids, particularly omega 3 (this is well known to help psoriasis).
  • Take a good multivitamin and mineral supplement. Make sure that the supplement has vitamin A, E and Zinc as these are needed for healing. The vitamins and minerals recommended on this site contain the nutrients that are needed for you to heal in a balance that will enable then to be used and absorbed effectively.
  • Cleanse your colon. The basis of internal cleansing starts with your colon. When your colon is clean then the other organs of elimination such as your liver, kidney and of course your skin are less likely to be overloaded. You can use a combination of a healthy diet plus the addition of probiotics, fiber and digestive enzymes as an effective way to cleanse you colon.

Herbal remedies for psoriasis

Certain herbs are indicated in psoriasis and most of these are alternatives. That is, herbs that correct toxic situations in the blood stream and restore healthier functioning. It is uncertain how alternatives actually work but they are most often used in the context of skin conditions such as psoriasis. The herbs include:

  • burdock root
  • cleavers
  • dandelion
  • figwort
  • mountain grape
  • red clover
  • sarsparilla
  • yellow dock

The herbs dandelion and yellow dock also work on the liver. Cleavers and figwort act on clearing toxins from the kidneys. The use of one or more herbs to work on the nervous system may also be appropriate if stress is an issue. If you wish to prepare your own herbal treatments the following basic herbal formula can be added to with other specific herbs as needed.

  • 1 part burdock
  • 1 part cleavers
  • 1 part sarsparilla
  • 1 part yellow dock

Combine the herbs. You need about as much of the combined herb as you would for a cup of coffee. Then add a cup of boiling water. Allow this to stand for 10-15 minutes and let the mixture cool slightly. Strain the mixture before you drink it. This tea should be drunk three times per day over a long period.

External remedies will ease irritation or help to remove the scales, but will not give permanent relief. Ointments for this purpose can be made from comfy, chickweed or marshmallow.

When the colon, liver and kidneys are cleansed and there is a reduction in the toxins in the body the skin has a chance to heal from the psoriasis. This is not something that is accomplished overnight – it takes time for the elimination organs to clear and begin to work effectively and to clear toxins from the body. These can only be accomplished with a comprehensive approach to healing and health. This approach needs to include cleansing, diet and nutritional support, vitamin and mineral supplements, stress management and reduced exposure to toxins.

The Migraine Headache – Allergy Connection

Most everyone has had a headache at some time, but there are people who cannot function on a daily basis due to headache pain. Many people go to physicians for headaches, in fact, headaches are the ninth most common cause of physician visits. Some headaches are caused by serious medical conditions and may need medical treatment.

Migraines, which come on an average of 1-2 times per month, may last anywhere from 3 hours to 3 days each. The pain, may vary from throbbing to moderate, often comes on gradually. Sometimes it starts on one side of the head and then switches sides. People report seeing lights, rainbows and blurred vision. There may also be loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting.

More women than men complain of headaches. Usually migraine patients have a family background of headaches 80% of the time. 43% of migraine sufferers complain of eye symptoms. According to many studies, most sufferers have other symptoms: hay fever, eczema, travel sickness and a history of digestive tract problems.

The Allergy Connection

Migraines are often a reaction to an allergen, which in turn, irritates the blood vessels. In migraines, an artery, most commonly the superficial temporal artery, becomes constricted at first, then the same segment of the artery becomes widely dilated, and overstretched. The pressure of the blood carried in the artery increases the pain, whereas compression of the artery with the hands on the side of the head over the dilated segment will cause relief of pain. The control of blood vessel tone is through the autonomic nervous system. Thus many natural treatments are directed at the nervous system and blood vessels.

Triggering Agents

The most common triggering agents for migraines are alterations in serotonin metabolism (a deficiency), food allergies (in order of the most common- wheat, citrus fruit, eggs, tea, coffee, chocolate, milk, salt, corn, cane sugar, yeast, alcohol, cheeses, onions), low magnesium levels, hormonal imbalances, histamine-induced platelet aggregation (blood platelets sticking together). There may also be factors that aggravate migraines such as poor air, constipation, getting cold, noise, carbon monoxide poisoning, very low / high blood pressure, altitude changes (air travel), bright or flashing lights (a recent study showed 30% were in the sun when the migraine started), loud or low frequency noises, electromagnetic fields (cell or portable phone), emotional stress or trauma, strong odors (including news print), pet allergies, and others. Can Foods Cause Migraines?

When allergy producing foods were avoided there was a dramatic fall in the number of headaches per month, 85% of patients becoming headache-free (Lancet) Migraine users may want to stay away from food with dairy and wheat.

Eating too many varieties of foods at one meal is a common cause of headache. The many chemicals from the various foods, even though naturally produced, still make war inside the system. For people with headaches it is wise to take two dishes at a meal of very simple foods. (Dr. Agatha Thrash).

Natural Relief

* When the headaches first starts, applying an ice pack can provide quick relief. The ice pack can be placed on the top of the head or on the forehead.

* Tension headaches result from stress and reduced blood flow to the brain, causing the neck muscles to tighten. To soothe the neck muscles apply heat. Applying a heating pad or taking a hot bath can provide relief.

* A massage can relieve stress and relax the muscles in the neck and other parts of the body. With the fingertips, massage the scalp and temples, using a circular motion.

* A hot foot bath with a cold compress or ice pack over the painful area can also be helpful.

* Studies show that Feverfew and Ginkgo reduce migraines and vascular headaches. The leaves of the Feverfew contain parthenolide, which inhibits the production of substances that dilate blood vessels and cause inflammation. Ginkgo also relieves ringing in the ear, and dizziness often associated with headaches. Feverfew and Ginkgo are available at health food stores.

* Ginger relaxes blood vessels in the head and reduces swelling in the brain. It activates natural opiates in the brain that relieve pain. Ginger can be taken in the form of tea or in tablets available at health food stores.

Since diet can play a part in migraines, reducing allergy producing foods is recommended. If you can’t afford the $100 food allergy test from your alternative medicine provider, you can instead try going 1 month each without wheat, dairy, and yeast. Those are the most common offenders. If any of them is involved, you should notice a difference!

Although it can be a challenge to change your diet, if the end result is migraine headache relief, it will be well worth your effort. There are an increasing number of non-allergenic food mixes and seasonings on the market today that have no dairy, are easy to make and healthful and fun to eat. You may want to consider some of those options while testing your diet to see if you can determine what foods, if any, are the ones that give you a headache.
