Edema and Lymph Edema Compared

Both, lymph edema and edema involve swelling, but there is a vast difference in these conditions. Edema is generally the body’s reaction to an injury which manifests as fluid retention in the body tissues. Once the healing process starts, the edema reduces as the accumulated fluids move out of the affected area. An injury or the malfunctioning of the lymphatic system causes lymphedema. It is the swelling of the extremity that has been traumatized due to a surgery to remove the lymph glands or nodes resulting in the lymphatic system not being able to drain the lymphatic fluids properly.

An underlying illness which may either be heart, liver or kidney disease may show up as an edema. Often, in such cases the body can’t process the salt or eliminate it, which gets accumulated and causes a swelling. Edema may be present in the legs more commonly, but it might also show up in the chest region, the abdomen or the lungs. Pulmonary edema, a condition associated with heart failure may be fatal in case it is not treated in time. Lymphedema is an acquired condition, usually the consequence of a cancer related surgery but primary lymphedema is the outcome of hereditary factors that hamper the lymphatic system from developing.

Edema can be treated quite easily and is always curable. With a simple diet change like reducing the salt intake, edema can be taken care of. In severe cases however, the doctor may prescribe a diuretic to drain off the excess salts and fluids. Sometimes even bed rest or elevation of the legs for a certain period daily can do the trick. In some instances, the edema goes away on its own. Treating lymph edema is a complex procedure and involves Complete Decongestive Therapy which can only control the condition but does not cure it. The therapy involves a special lymphatic massage to stimulate the fluids, compression bandaging as well as special exercises. There is no medication for lymphedema and it can only be controlled with therapy.

Once a patient develops lymphedema, the condition remains for life. Therapy to reduce the swelling is the first step. Then to maintain the reduction and to prevent the swelling from returning, compression bandages have to be applied and compression garments must be used by the patient. Flexibility of the limbs and stimulation of the lymphatic fluids is important; hence, the patient is advised to exercise regularly. An injury to the lymphatic system also weakens the immune system leaving the patient vulnerable to infections. Often edema is a temporary situation which can be taken care of by treating the primary cause of the swelling.

The massage is performed by trained lymphedema therapists. Edema on the other hand, can be treated at home. Only in severe problems like pulmonary edema, doctors must be consulted immediately for treatment. Lymph edema patients are usually prone to infections as the immune system is weakened and they may need immediate medical assistance for secondary problems as they have a delicate state of health.

Rheumatic Heart Disease – Effects and Causes

Rheumatic heart disease

Rheumatic heart disease occurs as a result of heart damage from rheumatic fever. This damage to the valves or muscular tissue of the heart is caused by rheumatic fever. This usually occurs in early life, usually between 6-12 years of age.

Early manifestations of this rheumatic heart disease which may occur singly or in combination are in the joints and muscles, twitching of muscles, frequent nose bleeding, pallor, poor appetite, and failure to gain weight. Evidence of these signs and symptoms does not necessarily mean that the child has rheumatic kind of fever. A period of medical observation and special tests may be necessary to determine the presence of rheumatic fever.

The rheumatic fever does not always cause heart disease, but the heart is the only organ which may be seriously affected by the disease. Repeated attacks of the disease are more likely to cause heart failure.

Recurring attacks usually cease by the age of 15 or 16 years. It is the usual medical recommendation that those suffering from fever stay in bed for weeks or even months after the inflammation has died down. This is to avoid unnecessary heart work.

Rheumatic heart diseases cause more deaths than any other disease as rheumatic fever attacks mainly children of school age.

Adequate nutrition, a full play life, sufficient rest, and lots of time out – of doors are other important factors related to the control of the rheumatic heart disease.

Cardiologists and pediatricians believe that a great deal can be done in the prevention and control of the disease through special care in the avoidance of colds, and some throats and communicable infections.

Causes and Effects of Anoxia

Below I have listed five causes of anoxia:

Obstruction to the air passages, for example in strangulation, smothering, pressure by haematoma, or any pressure from outside the womb.

Lung conditions which prevents the air sacs filling with air, such as pneumonia, where they are filled with exudate, pulmonary oedema, or a collapsed lung.

Damage to the respiratory centre in the brain, or to the nerves supplying the muscles of respiration. This may be caused by a stroke, head injuries, barbiturate or morphine overdose, electric shock, tetanus, and in babies prolonged labour or any brain damage around the time of birth.

Poor oxygenation of the blood. This occurs in chronic bronchitis with emphysema, and with congenital defects of the heart in children, because not enough blood reaches the lungs owing to the mechanical defect. It also occurs in carbon monoxide poisoning, because carbon monoxide combines with haemoglobin and prevents it from carrying oxygen, and at high altitudes if oxygen equipment is not carried.

Haemorrhage. Because of the loss of red blood cells, there is too little haemoglobin to carry enough oxygen. Severe anaemia may also cause anoxia for this reason.

There are many effects on the body that can be caused by anoxia. The brain is extremely sensitive to lack of oxygen. Sudden anoxia causes unconsciousness, and if the anoxia is complete and lasts more than two minutes, permanent brain damage can be caused, and if much longer, death.

Prolonged anoxia at the time of birth is a cause of mental handicap. More chronic anoxia, as in congestive heart failure causes mental confusion and irritability. A child with congenital heart disease who is anoxic has stunted growth and perhaps somewhat arrested mental development.

The kidneys are also damaged by anoxia. If the anoxia is acute, the patient may develop anuria and acute renal failure. If it is more chronic, there may be chronic renal failure.

The usual signs of anoxia is that the patient becomes blue, especially at the extremities and around the mouth. This is the main sign to look out for.

Anxiety Heart Attack – How to Tell the Difference Between Heart Attacks and Panic Attacks

For first time panic attack sufferers, the experience of these attacks could easily be mistaken for that of a heart attack or a stroke. No doubt both are terrifying, extremely uncomfortable and highly distressing situations to be in. Thousands rush to emergency rooms all across the country only to be told later that their hearts are indeed in perfect working condition.

Some people call this an anxiety heart attack, but the correct term is panic or anxiety attack. Anxiety attacks and heart attacks have surprisingly similar symptoms but both are quite different from each other. So how do you tell the difference between a heart attack and a panic/anxiety attack? Here is some helpful information:

o    During an anxiety attack, pain does not usually follow the rapid heartbeat symptom. Heart attacks, on the other hand, will have pain accompanying the rapid heartbeat symptom.

o    These attacks will have the sensation of numbness on the left shoulder and arm (or on one side of the body, in general). This would not be present in an anxiety attack.

o    Sudden trouble seeing (in one or both eyes) is present in a stroke but not in an anxiety or panic attack.

o    Sudden loss of responsiveness is observed during cardiac arrest, while a person undergoing panic attacks is still actually capable of staying alert and responsive.

o    Fingertips or fingernails that have turned a bluish-color are not symptoms of panic/anxiety attacks.

Anxiety heart attack symptoms that are commonly mistaken for a heart attack includes:

o    Rapid or Increased Heart rate, dizziness, lightheadedness and breaking-out in cold sweats.

o    Tightening, discomfort or pain in the chest area or stomach.

o    Rapid breathing or shortness of breathes, or the sensation that one is unable to breathe.

If you are unsure that what you are experiencing is an anxiety heart attack or an actual heat attack, stroke, or cardiac arrest then do not hesitate to call for emergency assistance immediately. A panic or anxiety attack will be gone in about 10 minutes but you do not want to waste precious minutes deciding if it is something else.

Holistic Approach to Heart Disease

The holistic approach to health is based on the belief that the body can heal itself if given the right tools. Heart Disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. The holistic approach to Heart Disease is to focus on diet and nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and energy healing and vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements. The holistic approach to Heart Disease focuses on reducing cholesterol levels, stop smoking, and bringing blood pressure and weight down to normal levels

With respect to Heart Disease, it is important to maintain a healthy weight and to end obesity and smoking. It is important to reduce body fat (measured as BMI) to acceptable levels. The holistic approach to achieve this is through diet, exercise, stress reduction and natural supplements.

For Heart Disease, a high nutrient diet is recommended. This consists of a diet primarily of whole fresh vegetables, fruit and berries (with some, but very little, nuts and seeds). These foods contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. Avoid starchy vegetables such as white potatoes. For protein, consider plant based proteins (from foods such as broccoli, spinach, chorella and spirulina. Try bee pollen for protein. If you want to eat animal protein, stick with egg whites and fish. Look into protein/amino acid supplements.

Avoid trans fats and saturated fats. For fats, eat olive oil, avocados and coconut oil. But, at least 80% of the diet should consist of whole, fresh, non-starchy vegetables. Organic and raw vegetables are best. Whole fresh vegetables provide vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants so needed by the body.

Avoid refined sugar and starches and processed foods, soda and sugary drinks and artificially sweetened drinks. Processed foods often contain a lot of sodium, refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup (and other refined sugars and starches) along with trans-fats and other fats. These ingredients are the primary culprits in raising cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

Avoid or greatly reduce your consumption of saturated fats (fats found in dairy) and trans-fats. Good fats include those found in fish oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil, seeds, nuts and avocados and coconuts. Organic is best. Consume whole vegetables, fruit and berries fresh and raw to maximize nutrients (I.e., in salads and fresh juices). Lightly cooking and steaming vegetables is fine. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale along with beets, broccoli, sprouts and mushrooms are a good place to start. Try super foods such as chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass and garlic. They can be taken as supplements.

If you want to eat grains, make sure they are whole grains such as kasha, quinoa, barley and brown rice.

Do not refined table salt. Substitute unrefined sea salt and Himalayan salt for refined table salt.

For Heart Disease, it is important to take natural supplements. These supplements include good sized doses of vitamin a, b-complex, c, d3, e, k1 and k2 along with full spectrum colloidal trace minerals supplements. While all vitamins and trace minerals are important for good health, vitamin D and potasium, magnesium and calcium are most important for good heart health.

Also, take good sized doses of Omega 3, 6,7 and 9 fatty acids (fish oil/flaxseed oil) supplements and turmeric or curcumin, cayenne pepper. garlic, lechtin, ginseng, gingko biloba and very large doses of Co q 10 or Ubiquinol and grape seed extract. Also beneficial for heart disease: lycopene, lutein, quercetin and black cumin seed supplements, Resveratrol, Alpha Lipoic Acid, L Carnitine, Lysene, L Proline, L Taurine, Pantethine, L Arginine, L Citrulline,Berberine and Jiaogulan (a Chinese herb for heart health) supplements. L Agnine and L Citrulline help the body produce ntiric oxide, which the body uses to repair artery walls, flavanoids, garlic, full spectrum amino acid supplements, silica supplements, ormus/monoatomic gold and colloidal gold and silver. Also, holistic research indicates the benefits of N-acetly cysteine (NAC) to help replenish cellular glutathione to fight disease. All of these supplements along with vitamins and trace minerals fight oxidation and inflammation at the cellular level. Heart Disease involves cellular oxidation and inflammation, so it must be fought with anti-oxidants and anti inflammation supplements.

Holistc research indicates the benefits of the following supplements to lower bad LDL cholesterol and raise good HDL cholsterol: beta sisterol, pycogenol, alpha lipoic acid., beta glucan, gamma linolenic acid, quercetin, red yeast rice, phytosterosis, coleus forskholii/forskolin, cardamom, hawthorn, olive leaf extract and alpha linolenic acid.

Holistic research indicates the benefits of ozone/oxygen therapy combined with the other holistic techniques.

Get reflexology and energy cleansing and healing (Reiki/energy healing) to cleanse and heal the energy body (aura, chakras, meridians and nadis) and to get your energy to flow better. With respect to Heart Disease, it is especially important to cleanse and heal the heart chakra and meridians.

Detoxify the liver and kidneys with chelation therapy, milk thistle and dandelion supplements along with hot water with whole fresh lemon and sea salt and cilantro.

Exercise is important. Do daily cardio exercises and lift light weights. At the very least, walk briskly for a few miles per day (ideally with weights in your hands) and lift light weights. Get your heart rate up while exercising.

Stress reduction is very important to reduce blood pressure.

Natural supplements that help reduce stress and relax the body include valerian root, b12 vitamins, holy basil, hawthorn and magnesium, dark chocolate, kava kava and chamomile.

Exercise, stretching and yoga are important to reduce stress and get energy to flow through the body to help heal it. Daily meditation and deep breathing exercises are also important to relieve stress. Essential oils help reduce stress. These include rose and floral essential oils and lavender and vanilla.

Take hot salt baths with lavender in them. This helps relieve stress. Work with healing crystals. Crystals that help promote inner peace and calm include fluorite and angel light. Crystals that help promote health include citrine and green aventurine. In addition, gold will help balance your energy. Hold these crystals and gold in your hand when you meditate and carry them in your pockets.

Stress and negativity often lead to heart disease including conditions such as anxiety and depression. To reduce stress, it is important to minimize stress factors. Reduce conflict and drama in your life and negative and impulsive reaction to situations. Avoid and/or build strong boundaries with negative and toxic people. It is important to avoid stressful environments and situations. Your focus must be to maintain your health, energy and inner peace while healing.

Most stress comes from our thoughts and emotions. To reduce stress in our lives, we must asset control over our thoughts and emotions and choose peace of mind, happiness and inner peace. This requires us to let go of the painful past and negative and painful incidents and stop ourselves from thinking about them. It is important to not suppress negative emotions, but rather to let them go. Forgive, detach, let go and release and return to peace of mind and inner peace. Stay heart centered and in the moment and experience the moment in your heart and senses and not in your thoughts.

Meditation is important to get the mind and body to relax and get us out of a state of stress and negativity. Reiki and energy healing, along with emotional release techniques and massage are also important to reduce stress and negativity. They, along with meditation and deep breathing techniques, will help get the mind and body to relax. When you are in a relaxed, positive and happy state, energy flows through you more freely. This is the best medicine of all.

Take time each day to de-stress and relax. Lie down and do deep breathing exercises into the heart and focus only on your breath. Meditate and pray from the heart each day, even if it is only for a few minutes.

Be mindful of your thoughts, acts, speech and reactions. If they get negative, return to inner peace, balance, positivity and happiness as soon as possible. Do not hold onto negativity and do not suppress it. This is stressful. Instead, through visualizations, meditation, deep breathing and prayer, flush out negativity and stress and let it go.

A lot of stress comes when we judge others or try to control them and when we do not forgive them. This often leads to conflict and stress along with ongoing negative thoughts and emotions, and a negative inner voice. Be mindful of these thoughts, stop them and let go. Understand that you cannot change or control others. So, accept them for who they are. If they cause you stress, then avoid them and/or build strong boundaries with them.

Take control of your thoughts and move them from negative to positive thoughts, from uncontrolled and unfocused, to controlled and focused. Positive thoughts are focused on the details and processes of positive activities- work, errands, hobbies, day-to day matters. They come from the middle of your forehead, a location where you assert control over them. Also, heart disease is often accompanied with depression and/or anxiety. There are holistic approaches to depression and anxiety too.

Negative thoughts lead to negative speech, a negative inner voice and negative acts. All this generates stress and negativity. Negative thoughts stem from negative and rigid beliefs. Change your beliefs from negative to positive through positive affirmations. Open your mind and let go of rigid beliefs. This will help alleviate stress.

Spiritual prayer from the heart is important to reduce stress. This brings us peace of mind and inner peace. Pray to the Divine from your heart daily. Give praise and thanks to the Divine, ask for forgiveness, and ask for protection and blessings. Recite in your heart the powerful prayers of your faith. With your eyes closed, offer all negativity to the Divine and ask the Divine to lift all this from you. Visualize that you are offering up this negative bundle with your eyes closed and feel it lift from you.

Grounding is important to do to fully focus your mind and to be in the moment. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and your feet firmly planted on the ground. Take off your shoes. Visualize that roots or laser beams shoot out from your feet and into the earth, going all the way to the center of the earth. Visualize that they anchor you firmly to the earth. Visualize that you draw the energy of the earth in through the soles of your feet and up your body.

Improve your posture and center yourself. Center yourself in the middle of your heart and the middle of your forehead and stand or sit straight. Posture is important. Negative thoughts and a negative inner voice come in when we are un-focused and slouching. Visualize a big white sun where your heart is located. Close your eyes and put your hand over your heart and shift your consciousness and energy to that spot. Alternatively, visualize an orb of white light above your head and below your feet and visualize that a beam of white light shoots out from the orbs and the light beams meet at the center of your body. With respect to centering in the middle of your forehead, put your fingers on your forehead and shift your energy and consciousness there. Center and focus. To fortify your ability to center and focus, do directed or seed mediation set forth above. Negative thoughts and a negative inner voice come from the sides and back of the head. Therefore, centering your energy and consciousness in the middle of your forehead is important to still the negative thoughts and negative inner voice. Be mindful of negative thoughts and a negative inner voice. When they come, switch to positive thoughts and images, positive affirmations, deep breathing exercises, centering yourself and staying focused in the moment. Live in the moment and your senses and not in your thoughts. Thoughts tend to always go negative when we live in them. Stop angry thoughts about the painful past or worried thoughts about the future especially. Just Be.

Boost your energy with meditative visualizations, Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and your feet firmly planted on the ground. Clasp your hands together. Visualize and will the energy from the earth come up the soles of your feet, up your legs and accumulate as a molten mass of energy in your solar plexus. Hold that energy there. Alternatively, visualize a bright white sun in the middle of your solar plexus or an orb of white light in front of you that shoots white light in you. Visualize this white light accumulate like a molten mass of energy in your solar plexus. Hold the energy in your solar plexus for awhile. Meditate on the color green for healing, yellow for energy and power and orange for happiness.

The foregoing is not intended to be medical advice. It is information based on holistic health research. It is a holistic approach intended to be used in combination with conventional medicine. Consult your physician for medical advice.

Diseases Spread by Flies

Not only are flies a nuisance when they are around the home but they do also bring diseases with them both to human beings and domestic animals.

Over the years, flies have been said to be spreading diseases like malaria, typhoid fever, anthrax, leprosy, cholera, conjunctivitis, tuberculosis, dysentery and diarrhea in human beings. They cause parasitic tape worms on poultry or parasitic tape worms on horses.

Flies increase rapidly during warmer seasons this means that diseases will now have to spread faster if proper hygiene is not observed in our homes. Here is a reason for you to prepare for the fly season in order to reduce the spread of diseases. Flies are known to carry bacteria in their feet and mouths that cause mastitis. These flies do not transmit diseases by biting but rather the moist materials of food particles that remain in their mouthparts when they feed contain bacteria that will be transferred to a different place where the fly will land to feed or even to rest. Flies like feeding on rotten plants or any decaying matter, from there they will leak milk that has mastitis bacteria.

When this fly that has leaked the milk containing mastitis bacteria bites the thin skin of a cow’s teat, they cause a lot of damage and irritation that leads to formation of wounds. The teats are exposed to bacteria’s like staphylococcus that grow in the wounds. As it is with any open wound in the teat, it will lead to mastitis. In calves, flies feed on the moraxella bacteria that cause pinkeyes that are found in calves discharge and tears. Pinkeye spread rapidly from calve to calve when the flies population is high.

Kala-azar is a rare disease caused by sand fly. It spreads through sand fly and is a parasite in nature. It affects the skin membrane and in most cases can cause membrane ulcers. It is spread by fly biting; for example, when a fly bites an infected animal it transmits the disease to human beings.

Dysentery can be transmitted in human through the food. When we leave our food uncovered the flies come and leak them with the moist materials that remain in their mouths after feeding on the decayed materials they carry bacteria with them that causes dysentery. Flies like moist places and are attracted to smell of fermenting materials. They can transmit parasitic worms that cause skin infection in human beings and leaves droppings on food and utensils that makes the food contaminate.

Bacteria that causes cholera is found in human feces and is carried by flies that will come and feed on our food and water that we drink.

When we consume food that is contaminated or water we contact typhoid, it is a food borne disease and is caused by a bacteria called salmonella typhy, flies transmits the bacteria causing this disease. Malaria which is the most dangerous disease in the world is spread by mosquitoes; it transmits the disease from one person to the other through biting.

Hair Cloning – The Technology Which Promises to Cure Baldness

The main problem today in hair transplants is the need to redistribute existing hair on the scalp, so that successful transplantation also achieves less than desired hair density. A new method of hair transplantation, already in use since September 2004, aim to solve this problem, even if only partially, and send the field of hair transplant to a new era.

Hair Replication vs. Replication of hair follicles

The first method already in use is replication follicles, a method developed by the GHO Clinic. In this laboratory study, it is revealed that hair follicles can grow at two different parts in them. Based on this discovery, follicles are cut into two parts separately transplanted areas where there is thin hair or no hair at all, as if one of the parts is too small, it won’t grow hair thus the cutting should be done fairly accurate. GHO argue that constant improvement achieved in the process of crop of follicles, and now success percentages are approximately 80% (compared to only 50% Not so long ago). During the study of this method, another remarkable discovery called “Pili Multigemini” has been discovered – scalp hair follicles are organized in small groups. When the upper parts of the cut hair follicles implanted in groups of two or three units, they can grow up to five hairs! So this method can increase the density of the recipient scalp hair twice or more and get close to the density of natural hair.

Second method developed by the GHO Clinic and Bazan Institute called hair cloning. It supposed to provide an unlimited amount of hair and allow reaching normal density and will appear as an entirely natural looking hair. The method is based on the transplantation of skin cells taken from the skin layer of the donor’s area. These cells (also testing the option of harvesting them from another person), would fertilize the areas of transplanted skin, causing them to produce new hair follicles. Those follicles are supposed to be resistant to the hormone DHT. This method is already available at Bazan as the experimental group but cost full charge.

Is the promise of unlimited amount of hair makes hair cloning the ultimate method?

Although this method entails great promise, there are still some question marks about it. Bazan and GHO also rarely provide details about the system. However, it is already known that some of the new hair follicles are not resistant to the effect of DHT. If these news are correct, there may an issue regarding the uniformity in the density of the hair at the implanted areas where too many follicles not resistant to DHT, grow such hair. This lack of aesthetics, completely deny the possibility of using this method the front areas of the scalp, where the patient will have to pass another hair transplant with methods that exist today.

So what to do?

Two of those methods of hair transplantation are quite expensive and cost of treatment can reach tens of thousands of dollars. For those of you already on the way to pack suitcases, the recommendation is to wait. Besides cost, there is concern about the durability of new hair follicles over time. Since these hair transplant techniques developed during recent years, there is no way of knowing that new hair follicles will function normally for many full growth cycles as regular hair transplant.

Can A Particular Alternative Cancer Cure Truly Fight Breast Cancer Tumors?

Using an alternative cancer cure so that you can treat breast cancer is seldom spoken of in the doctor’s office or hospital. This is because when a breast malignancy is present, the doctor’s principal focus is to eliminate the cancerous growth along with the cancerous cells as soon as possible by zapping the actual cells away and also cutting the actual malignant tumor out.

Traditional treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation, never get rid of the underlying cause of the illness. In fact, the potential cause of the cancer is rarely mentioned. This is the major reason why countless numbers of cancer fighters relapse and consequently pass away. This is the biggest factor that separates alternative cancer cures with standard cancer treatments. Alternative treatments address the root cause so that the tumors and cells will not reappear.

The fact remains, countless individuals have been cured of breast cancer making use of alternative treatments. Actually, alternative cures have been in existence for countless years. Alternative remedies that eliminate tumors in the breast and throughout the body are becoming a lot more sought after currently because patients and families are little by little starting to get completely fed up with the medical industry.

Folks simply do not rely upon doctors as much as they did in the past. Toxic medicines and chemicals are the rule when it pertains to orthodox practitioners healing any medical conditions. But you need to ask, with so many breakthroughs in technology and billions of dollars paid out on breast cancer research, drug treatments, and other innovative treatments every year, exactly why are more people succumbing to cancer now far more than at any time in history?

Alternative cancer cures tackle recovery by utilizing purely natural therapies. Alternative therapies are designed to treat the total body. Zapping cancer cells as well as removing tumors can deliver a short-term resolution, but as the majority of us realize by now, cancers continue to spread inside of the body unless the root cause is addressed. Anytime the root cause is addressed using alternative solutions, the full body will heal. Not only will the cancer malignancy disappear, but a variety of other conditions will leave the body too.

With natural cancer treatment options, the practitioner views the cancerous cells and tumor serves as a sign that the body system is not in balance. An alternative cancer cure will help get the total body well, given that cancer cells will neither remain nor thrive in a body that is healthy and in balance.

Easily Prevent Pneumonia By Taking A Pneumonia Vaccine

Pneumonia is an illness that affects one or both lungs and that used to be one of the main causes of death 2 centuries ago. It is caused by microorganisms that attack the tissue from the lungs, causing it to inflammate and leading to a severe condition if the infection is not treated in time.

Nowadays pneumonia can easily be cured with the help of antibiotics. But the medication must be taken as soon as possible, before any complications start to appear. Many people confuse pneumonia with a tough cold when its first signs start to appear, and they only realize that it’s in fact pneumonia when their condition gets worse because the affection starts to spread.

So, the best thing you can do in order to avoid this illness is to prevent it from appearing. How can you do that? By taking a pneumonia vaccine…

The pneumonia vaccine can protect you from the microorganisms that cause pneumonia. These microorganisms can affect other parts of the body too, including the brain, so getting a pneumonia vaccine would be a very wise idea, especially if you know that you have a weak defense system, or if you are over 65 years old, because in this situation a pneumonia can damage the body seriously.

Also, if you work in a hospital or if you must spend some time inside one, it is highly recommended to get a pneumonia vaccine, because the pneumonia virus spreads through the air, and if one patient sneezes or coughs it can get into the hospital’s ventilation system and spread in a wide area. With a single shot you can avoid a lot of trouble, and the best thing about this vaccine is that it lasts a lifetime for most people. Those with other illnesses and with a weak defense system should periodically get this vaccine though, because they are at a higher risk.

People with HIV can die from pneumonia so they need this shot quite often.

If you got a pneumonia vaccine a long time ago and now you are over 65, you should consult your doctor in this matter. He will probably advise you to get another one because at elder people the risks are also higher.

Remember that the vaccine begins to work 2 weeks after you’ve had it, so do it in time if you know that you will be exposed to the virus in the future.

The shot is 100% effective, but certain factors may weaken it. Stress is know to do that. Some people that work in a stressful environment must take it yearly.

It rarely presents side effects like fever or irritation, but in most cases this does not occur.

So consult your doctor for more information about the pneumonia vaccination, especially if you know that you are at risk. One shot can spare you of the illness that affects thousands yearly because it can easily spread through the air.

Controlling Fluid Retention in Your Legs and Ankles

Fluid retention in the legs and ankles is the most common type of edema. This retention can be caused by a dietary imbalance, bad circulation, insufficient exercise, or a combination of all of these. This type of fluid retention can be difficult to get rid of, especially if you are on your feet a lot throughout the day and find it hard to find the time to slow down and put your feet up. Aside from ensuring you eat a healthy diet, here are a few other things you can do to help alleviate excess fluid retention in your legs and ankles.

Exercise regularly – Exercise is essential to the body’s normal functions. The lack of exercise will severely affect your circulation and your body’s ability to regulate fluids. When circulation is weak, fluids often pool in the ankles, legs and hands as well as other areas of the body.

Avoid standing or sitting for extended periods of time – Standing or sitting in one place for extensive amounts of time can also restrict circulation and cause excessive fluid retention. If you are required to stay in one place for several hours at a time, especially if you work in an office or as a cashier, try to take a break every hour or so to walk around a little and stretch out to get the blood flowing again. If you do not have the option of getting up, such as in trucking, try regularly flexing various muscle groups at regular intervals to help the circulation.

Wear controlled socks or hose – Find some socks or hose that are specifically designed to promote good circulation. These products are generally marketed to diabetics because of water retention issues related to diabetes and can be found in most discount or clothing stores.

Make sure your shoes fit right – If your shoes hurt your feet then get rid of them, no matter how much you like those shoes. Sore feet are a sure sign that your shoes are not correctly fitted to your feet and are likely causing circulation problems. Invest in shoes that fit well and wear them with some controlled socks and you will definitely feel the difference.

Elevate your feet – When you have excess fluid retention in your legs, sometimes it’s best just to let gravity do the work. Try to prop your feet up above the level of your heart at least once a day for 10-30 minutes. Ideally, take five minutes to lay flat on the floor and stretch your legs up against a wall and relax, allowing your legs to fall to either side a little and preventing overextension of the leg muscles. Additionally, you can buy leg wedges that will keep your feet and legs properly elevated while you sleep through the night.

Massage – Gently massaging your calves, ankles and feet on a nightly basis will help you sleep more comfortably and also further stimulate circulation that will aid in fluid regulation.

Drink plenty of water – Your body can’t properly regulate fluid if it doesn’t have enough coming in. Be sure to drink at least the recommended eight cups a day to ensure your body is properly hydrated.

Allergies Can Cause Chest Congestion Symptoms – Cure Allergies

Allergies this time of year can cause a lot of major health issues so it is important to find a remedy that help you prevent it. You need to make sure if you have an allergy it is not from something like mold that can be inside your house. It is important that you take vitamin D because this is a natural way that you can prevent any allergies from occurring. If you contract a cough or congestion you need to go to your doctor so that you can treat it before it gets worse. The quicker you take action on the allergy the faster you will be able to get over it.

Certain times of year there is more things in the air that can cause you to have issues. Spring time is especially bad because there are many flowers and plants that are blooming. It is a good idea if you try to eat healthy foods and get plenty of liquids because this can increase your immune system and prevent you from getting any symptoms. If you feel like you have an allergy coming on then you need to be proactive because this will allow you to make sure your allergy does not turn into something worse.

Remember that if you have an bad allergy you need to get treatment for it before it gets worse. During the spring season you are more likely to have an issue because the flowers and plants are blooming and there is a lot of stuff floating around in the air. If you eat health and take more vitamin D it can help to increase your immune system and lower the chance that you will get an allergy.

Bronchitis Natural Remedies – 5 Natural Ways To Control Bronchitis

Bronchitis is considered to be one among the most common respiratory disorders in the world. Infants, people with a weak respiratory system, children, old people, smokers, and people living in highly polluted atmospheres are vulnerable to this disorder. It constitutes the last stage of infection of the upper respiratory tract. People commonly contract this disorder during the cold months of the winter. Fortunately, there are a number of natural remedies for bronchitis.

Bronchitis normally follows bacterial or viral infection. Most cases of bronchitis are caused by viral infection. Sometimes bacteria are responsible for this condition, and in rare cases, fungal infection can lead to bronchitis. Natural remedies for bronchitis are available, whether it is acute or short-term bronchitis or chronic or long-term bronchitis.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

Only laboratory tests can tell you whether bronchitis is bacterial, viral, or fungal. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you visit a doctor as soon as you suspect bronchitis. Physicians will properly diagnose your condition with the help of laboratory test results.

These are the symptoms of acute bronchitis–hacking cough, contracting sensation around the areas of the eye, pain in the chest, breathlessness, and headaches. It is easy to treat viral bronchitis, especially with the help of natural remedies. The treatment plan includes plenty of rest, fluid intake, use of a humidifier inside your house. If you do not have a humidifier, simply hang wet blankets or towels inside your house.

Although it is easy to treat acute bronchitis, a lot of care is required for complete recovery. If neglected or mistreated, acute bronchitis will lead to chronic bronchitis, a condition that can permanently damage your pulmonary system and affect your day-to-day life. It is therefore crucial that you tackle it in its early stages by making use of natural remedies for bronchitis.

Natural Remedies

There are a number of natural remedies for bronchitis. They can, at least, be used to provide relief from bronchitis symptoms. However, these natural remedies for bronchitis cannot be taken on their own. A combination of these remedies with the usual, conventional medication constitutes the ideal treatment plan.

The following is a list of natural remedies for bronchitis that you can use:

1. If you are a cigarette smoker, quit smoking for good. In addition, avoid smoke from other smokers.

2. Take a long, hot shower or soak in a bathtub filled with hot, steaming water.

3. Wrap a towel around your head and inhale the fumes from a pot or a sink filled with hot, steaming water. Maintain a small distance between the hot pot or sink so that you don’t get burnt.

4. Do this before you go to bed. Apply hot, damp towels to your chest and back for many minutes. Dry yourself and change into warm clothes.

5. Avoid dusty, smoky, polluted places as these will worsen your condition.

In addition to the above natural remedies for bronchitis, consider the use of vitamin supplements to give your body the required energy to drive away the bacteria or virus. Other alternative methods you could use to treat bronchitis successfully include acupuncture, aromatherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and even oil massages.

An ideal combination of natural remedies for bronchitis with the usual medication can help you effectively treat this disorder without suffering from any side effects. Consequently, it can help you live a healthier, more productive life.

Taking special care of your body, especially your respiratory system is the best way of keeping respiratory disorders at bay. If, in spite of your care and precautions, you do contract bronchitis simply apply the previously mentioned natural remedies for bronchitis in conjunction with the conventional methods.

Pain – Shoulder Pain Causes, Tests, and Treatments for Pain

Shoulder pain conditions that limit movement are common, and are caused by problems with the shoulder joint and its surrounding structures. Your shoulder is more prone to injuries than other joints because of its wide range of movement and you need to know how to deal with the pain.

A few facts. About 13.7 million people went to the doctor’s office in 2003 for a shoulder problem, including 3.7 million visits for shoulder and upper arm sprains and strains. (Source: National Center for Health Statistics; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2003 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey.)

One of the best ways you can avoid injury is to keep physically fit, through a balanced program of aerobic exercise, stretching and strengthening exercises for your whole body. There are a range of exercise programs available from local fitness centers, online services and even downloads for your MP3 or iPod players.

There are several conditions that generally cause pain and limit movement of your shoulder joint and you need to know what they are to effectively deal with your shoulder pain problem:

1. Rotator cuff disorders

Pain and Inflammation can be caused by general wear and tear that occurs with age, activities that require constant or repetitive shoulder motion (especially above shoulder level), heavy lifting, trauma, or poor posture. Serious injuries and untreated inflammation of the tendons can cause the rotator cuff to tear resulting in pain.

The pain associated with rotator cuff problems is normally felt at the front or on the outside of your shoulder, particularly when you raise your arm or lift something above your head. You may also notice the pain more when lying in bed. Severe injuries can cause weakness of the shoulder muscles, restricted shoulder movement and continuous pain.

2. Rotator cuff tears

It is usually the rotator cuff tendons (the thick bands of tissue that connect the muscles to the bones) that tear, but sometimes the tear occurs in the muscle. Severe injuries can cause several of the tendons and muscles to tear. There are special movement tests that your doctor can use to help determine which of the muscles or tendons has been torn.

3. Frozen shoulder

Frozen shoulder pain is characterized by progressive pain and stiffness in the shoulder. The pain is felt deep in the shoulder joint and may become worse at night due to inactivity.

The exact cause of this condition is not known, but it sometimes develops following other shoulder injuries. Resting a painful, injured shoulder for too long can cause the shoulder muscles and connective structures to stiffen up, so when a shoulder injury occurs make an effort to keep it loose without putting to much strain on it.

Frozen shoulder can develop spontaneously, particularly if you have thyroid problems or diabetes seem to be at increased risk. Most people with frozen shoulder tend to improve within 2 years, with or without treatment. In the interim, however it can be quite painful.

4. Dislocated shoulder and shoulder instability

A dislocated shoulder is visibly deformed or out of place, and there may be swelling or bruising around the joint. Your shoulder movement will be severely restricted. Your Doctor can usually put the shoulder bone back into place using gentle maneuvers.

If you suffer a dislocation, keep in mind that the shoulder joint sometimes becomes unstable and susceptible to repeated dislocations. This causes pain and unsteadiness when you raise your arm or move it away from your body. Your shoulder may feel as if it is slipping out of place when you lift your arm over your head.

5. Arthritis

Arthritis causes progressive joint pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness. Both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis will affect the shoulder joint.

Sometimes shoulder pain can be due to problems in your neck or a mixture of several different problems. A visit to your doctor is almost always necessary when it comes to a shoulder problem because in rare instances, shoulder pain may be caused by infection, problems with the nerves, or a tumor located somewhere else in your body.

As with any medical issue, a shoulder problem is generally diagnosed using a three-part process:

o Medical History – You tell your doctor about any injury or other condition that might be causing the pain.

o Physical Examination – Your doctor examines you by feeling for injury and to discover the limits of movement, location of pain, and extent of joint instability.

o Tests – Your doctor may order one or more of the tests for you listed below to make a specific diagnosis.

What tests are needed to determine the cause of your shoulder pain?

Your doctor will determine the cause of your pain based on your symptoms and a physical examination. Where the pain is felt, both at rest and when moving the shoulder, is a clue to the cause of the shoulder pain. Your doctor will also test your shoulder strength and the range of movement in your shoulder joint.

You may need an X-ray, or other scans, such as an ultrasound scan or MRI. Sometimes, an arthroscopy is needed. In this test, your doctor can look inside the shoulder joint using a small telescopic instrument that has a camera on the end. This is not as painful as it sounds.

How your shoulder pain will be treated

In addition to relieving pain, treatment is aimed at restoring mobility in your shoulder joint. The choice of treatment depends on the extent of your shoulder problem and the level of pain.

Pain relievers such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are often used as an initial treatment for shoulder pain. Ibuprofen is the best and Aspirin should be avoided.

Another simple way of easing shoulder pain is by applying a cold pack to your shoulder for 10 minutes at a time three or four times a day. Cold packs will reduce inflammation, and are most helpful when applied for the first few days following a shoulder injury. After that, you can switch to using a heat pack; intermittent applications of heat can help relax the shoulder muscles.

A heat pad used at night when sleeping will keep the shoulder from stiffing up.

You should rest your shoulder for a couple of days after an injury, and if you have dislocated your shoulder, you may need to rest your arm in a sling or splint for several weeks after the joint has been manipulated back into place.

However, with most shoulder problems it isn’t a good idea to rest for too long. While you should avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects, you should still move your shoulder to help make sure that you regain full use of the joint. By returning to your normal activities as soon as possible (within the limits of disability and pain), you can help prevent the shoulder joint from stiffening up.

Physiotherapy can help treat you shoulder pain.

Physiotherapy can help improve your shoulder strength and flexibility as well as relieve the pain associated with most shoulder problems. Physiotherapists use a variety of different therapies, including massage, ultrasound therapy, laser therapy and electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) — a therapy that uses mild electrical currents to treat pain.

Taping the shoulder joint can also help stabilize it and reduce pain during activities. Your doctor will refer you to a good Physiotherapist is he feels the extent of your injury warrants Physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists can also teach you special rehabilitation exercises to stretch and strengthen the rotator cuff muscles of the shoulder. Exercises that improve your shoulder’s range of movement help reduce the pain and stiffness that occurs after a period of immobility. Range of motion exercises may be followed by resistance exercises and weight training to strengthen the muscles.

Steroid injections can be effective but proceed with caution.

Depending on the cause of your shoulder problem, corticosteroid injections may be given to relieve the pain in the short term. The corticosteroid, which is often mixed with a local anesthetic, reduces inflammation and allows you to move the shoulder more comfortably. Make sure you understand what is involved in this kind of treatment to include the long term effect on your body. The jury is still out on the impact of this type of treatment.

Surgery may be necessary to treat your shoulder problem.

Because most people improve with the above treatments, only about 10 per cent of people with shoulder problems will need to be treated with surgery. People with shoulder instability or rotator cuff problems that are not responding to less invasive treatments may benefit from an operation, and shoulder joint replacement may be considered for people with degenerative arthritis.

There are also some conditions that need to be treated initially with an operation, including some rotator cuff tears and dislocated shoulders that cannot be reduced (put back in) with simple manual maneuvers. Sometimes frozen shoulder is treated with what’s known as manipulation under anesthesia. In this therapy, your shoulder is gently moved while you are under a general anesthetic to help improve its range of motion and of course avoid the treatment pain.

So make sure you do not self-diagnosis your shoulder problem, see your doctor. Keep in mind that it isn’t a good idea to rest it for too long or it will stiffen up. Use Cold and Heat intermittingly to speed up the healing process. Avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects, but remember to move your shoulder to help make sure that you regain full use of the joint by returning to your normal activities as soon as possible and you will regain full use of your shoulder in a reasonable period of time.

But, if you are still experiencing pain, listen to it, it is a signal trying to tell you something is still wrong with your shoulder.

Uterine Prolapse Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

The term prolapse means “fall out of place”. Prolapse is the condition where organs such as uterus slip out of place. Uterine prolapse is the condition of sliding and falling of uterus from its actual position in the pelvic cavity into the vaginal canal. A spinal disc herniation is also sometimes known as “disc prolapse”.

Uterine prolapse usually occurs in females and sometimes it does occur in animals also. Uterine prolapse generally occurs after an immediate delivery due to maximum force of contractions. Spontaneous abortion can cause serious uterine prolapse. Some types of prolapses are as follows –

Mitral Valve Prolapse

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a valvular heart disease defined as the dislocation of an abnormally thickened mitral valve leaflet into the left atrium during systole.

Rectal Prolapse

It is that situation where the entire walls or part of the rectum walls slip out of place, the rectum may stick out. Symptoms of a rectal prolapse can be –

1. Stool leakage
2. Protruding of tissues from the rectum

To secure the part of the large intestine a surgeon may operate through the belly. Sometimes surgeon removes the affected part of the intestine.

Female genital prolapse

Uterine prolapse is also known as female genital prolapse which occurs when the uterus falls out of the normal position. It is very common in women of all ages especially in those who have delivered large babies.

Causes

Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus falls out of the place. The uterus is held in position in pelvis supported by the muscles, special ligaments and other tissues. The uterus prolapses into the vaginal canal when the muscles, ligaments and tissues weaken. It also happens in women who have delivered large babies. Frequent abortion can also cause this problem.

Signs and symptoms

Some symptoms are mentioned below –

1. Shortness of breath
2. Fatigue
3. Dizziness
4. Cough problems
5. Backache
6. Inability to control urination
7. Protruding of cervix
8. Pain and vaginal bleeding

Treatment

A pelvic examination is performed to determine the organs involved. This is usually done without full bladder. There are also several methods of surgical treatment which are performed to cure this problem. Vaginal estrogen cream helps to improve vitality of vaginal epithelium. Non surgical treatment such as exercises can strengthen the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic floor which in turn helps to combat against uterine prolapse. Herbal remedies along with exercises are very helpful in this condition.

Plastic Surgery to Repair Cheek Bone Fractures

It is very common for people to get plastic surgery to repair cheekbone fractures. Four different legs in the deeper sections of the face attach the cheekbone and a fracture to this part is normally caused by car accidents and sports accidents.

When this occurs, the eye is no longer protected, and if you cannot afford to get plastic surgery to get this repaired, you will have to take some drastic measures to protect your eyes. The cheekbone is located below the eye and it protects the eye from all forms of danger. That’s why it is so important to get plastic surgery to repair this fracture. It does cost a lot of money, but this is something you need. Not only are your eyes no longer protected when your cheekbone gets fractured, it also makes the eye look like it has dropped a little lower.

Getting plastic surgery to repair cheekbone fractures is a time consuming process. First, the cheek is put back into place and one or more of the legs get secured with the right screws and plates. This procedure can be done either inside the mouth through one of the lower eyelids, or even both depending on the severity of the fracture.

This procedure can be done with a small amount of metal titanium. In today’s medical care, a lot of plastic surgeons use metal titanium to perform the surgery. It is also popular for plastic surgeons to use LactoSorb screws and plates because it has a record of effective results and a high level of safety. The only fracture that works pretty well with LactoSorb is cheekbone fractures that are very minor.

The only bad thing about repairing cheekbone fractures is that they will always leave a gap between it and the front wall of a certain sinus called the maxillary sinus. The plates have to be a little bigger than 2.0 mm because it has to be a certain size for the strength level to be where it needs to be in order to get the job done correctly.

For this extremely important surgery, do not put it off even finances are low. Repairing the eye can be far more costly if it is damaged and the procedure itself is much more difficult. Cheekbone fractures are unfortunate, but if you do not get plastic surgery to fix it, you are risking damage to the eye, or worse such as blindness.
