Pain in the upper back and shoulder blades can be excruciating. It may be a referred or local pain.

Causes

Anatomy of the shoulder

Shoulders form an important part of the upper back. Their anatomy makes them highly vulnerable to pain due to sprain, strains, tears and inflammation. The muscles and ligaments in the shoulder joints can themselves be the cause of back pain.

Rotator cuff

A rotator cuff is made up of four main muscles. It binds the shoulders joints together and is very sensitive to tension and stress.

Bursae

The movement of the shoulder blades is also controlled by small sacks of fluid called bursae. The bursae can become swollen, infected and inflamed leading to acute pain at the point of shoulder.

Neck and arm

Arthritis and disc herniation in the neck can lead to pinched nerves. The resultant pain is referred to the shoulder blades.

Trigger points

The trigger points in the front and side muscles of the neck often cause annoying pain in the shoulder blades in the upper back. It is known only to very few people that some times the upper back pain is caused by these trigger points. Trigger points located under the arm can also cause pain at the lower tip of the shoulder and the middle back.

The role of trapezius muscles

The movements of the shoulders are also controlled by the two triangle shaped trapezius muscles which together form a trapezoid. The trapezius muscle lies at the back of the neck and covers the shoulders. It makes the two shoulders blades move towards the midline in the back. It also rotates them and makes them move up and down.

The muscle is very sensitive to anxieties, frustrations, tension, stress and poor posture. Sitting in the same position over long hours in the office or driving the car shortens and tightens the fibers in the trapezius muscle. It develops spasms that send shooting pains to the shoulders.

If there is a pain under the shoulder blade, it may be a warning that it is being triggered by some other organ of the body. For example, it may be referred by some problem in the stomach or the heart. Heart attacks often cause pain in the shoulders.

Treatment

Initial back and shoulder blade pain caused by spasms or stains can be cured by simple exercises that rotate the neck and shoulders or move them up and down. It may also go away by applying balm or massage upon the affected areas including the trapezius or taking over-the-counter medicines. You should consult your physician, if the pain refuses to go away by such home treatment.

Signs Of Cerebral Palsy

Signs of cerebral palsy are often shown in the way a child motor skills. In most cases, children with cerebral palsy show varying signs of the illness that may range from mild to severe.

Cerebral palsy can be detected before 18 months of age. Within such time, a normal child learns how to sit, crawl, walk or smile. These are what may be called as developmental milestones. However, a child with cerebral palsy is not able to reach these milestones within 18 months and is showing signs of abnormal motor development.

In some cases, children with cerebral palsy also have abnormal muscle tone. The baby looks floppy and does not show signs of normal activity. Such a condition is called hypotonia. Meanwhile, there are some children with cerebral palsy who manifest the opposite of hypotonia. They show signs of stiffness and rigidity. This condition is called hypertonia.

During the latter years of life, children with cerebral palsy also show difficulty in writing. Often, they exhibit a very slow involuntary writing movement. This is called athetosis. Some children also show involuntary motor skills and find it hard to speak, see and hear.

Other symptoms involve excessive drooling or difficulties in speaking, swallowing and sucking.

Children with cerebral palsy also find it hard to control defecation. They cannot decipher the proper reaction to signs of defecation at an age where they should already be able to detect bowel movement. Other children also have difficulty urinating. They are unable to control their bladder.

While there may be no exact combination of the symptoms of cerebral palsy, parents should take responsibility in bringing their children to the physician once they detect any abnormal behavior from them. This way, the physician can validate whether the child’s reaction is normal or not such that it constitutes what may be called as a developmental disorder. If needed, necessary medication and therapy can be provided.

"Analysis Paralysis" Getting Unstuck

So for some time now you have wanted to improve your life with “personal growth”, that catch-all phrase to somehow ‘be better’, ‘feel better’, ‘do better’. Or to start, grow or improve your business.

If you are anything like me, you love information, to learn, to study, you love books and anything else that can teach you what you want/need to know. I could be a professional student! The other side of that coin is that I and those like me can become stuck in Analysis Paralysis. We are so focused on learning, researching what we need to know to improve ourselves and/or our career that we forget to put it into ACTION. And then we wonder why nothing changes. Or things are going far too slowly.

Light Bulb moment coming…… without ACTION there is no attraction! If you take care of the action, the attraction will always take care of itself. You think you are in action with all your research when in fact, what you are ‘into’ is “preparation syndrome”. It’s a kind of avoidance, it helps you hide behind the fear that is lurking in the background. The ‘what if I fail’ or ‘what if I succeed’ fear. Or the ‘maybe I’m not good enough’ or ‘what will others think’ fear.

Time to lock that junk in the trunk and find the motivation that will propel you into real action. That is your sole (soul) responsibility, because if you are looking for someone else to motivate you, it won’t happen. What you can do is put yourself into certain circumstances or environments wherein you can find your own motivation.

As an illustration, think of a time when you tried to motivate someone. How difficult it is to ‘motivate’ your child! Rather than cajoling, giving orders or downright threats, a parent could spend daily, 30 minute, one on one time with their four-year old playing a game, going for a walk, interacting, (not watching TV) and doing something that is of interest to her. Within a very short time parent will experience how much more cooperative he is.

The wise parent has provided an environment for their child to be motivated (want) to do the things or behave in the ways asked of him.

This is what the Universe (your parent) does for you. It provides an environment through the Law of Attraction wherein you can feel your own motivation. Just look at the word “motivation”. The root word is ‘motion’.

By now you know the Law of Attraction works. You’ve learned that what you focus on you attract, both positive and negative. You’ve watched “The Secret”, read the book, listened to other teachers. You have done as instructed and written daily goals, and created your Vision Board. That’s the learning/study part. You are now inspired (root word ‘in sprit’)!

For some, this is the analysis paralysis point. You think that by studying more, reading more, buying more courses, attending more workshops and spending all your time with endless preparation, you will achieve your goals. You think you are in action and in some ways you are, but not in the way you need to be.

Let’s say one of your written goals is to own a brand new luxury Hybrid car (because, of course, you want to do your part to improve the environment!). So you study Hybrid technology, you work out gas mileages for trips, and work out all the reasons why you should own a Hybrid car, when what you really need to be doing is the how to own a Hybrid car. What are the first steps?

You choose a brand of Hybrid car. You go down to the dealer. You drive the car. You have your picture taken with the car (and put it on your Vision Board!). You talk to the salesperson about prices, colours, options. Action steps! Now the Universe is really perking up. The attraction vibes are resonating!

It’s the same with starting a new career or business. At some point you must get out of the preparation stage and go into action. Graduate from school.

You know what you want, you’ve meditated on (studied) it, you have visualized it with written goals, vision boards and pictures in your mind. Now it’s time to take definite action.

Do not worry if you’re unsure of what action you need to take, by staying focused on what it is you want to attract, the action you need to take will come to you. Be aware, keep your antennae up. It may come as an inspired thought, a “Bingo!” moment or a moment of clarity at an unexpected time such as driving your car, or through something a person said. The way it comes is not important. Trust that the answer will come.

So do something, anything to move you toward your goal(s). Definite action, when applied toward your goal, manifests miracles through the Law of Attraction. One of the greatest mistakes is to over-analyze whether you are doing the right thing, or you don’t know enough or you are not prepared enough.

Start with baby steps, what you think to be right. As you go into action, things will occur to guide you towards the end result. Stay aware, look for them, recognize them.
