What Are the Warning Signs of Pneumonia You Should Know

Pneumonia is an inflammation and subsequent infection of the lungs. It can cause difficulty with breathing, produce a cough and cause chest pain. Pneumonia can affect either one or both of your lungs and various forms exist of the disease. It is known that the most common cause of pneumonia is a pulmonary infection associated with viruses or gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria. Even pneumonia, or even a severe chest cold, or the flu can often cause chest pain. It is also one of the symptoms of lung cancer. There are other vital organs that your chest also contains, that will cause thorax pain, if they are diseased, or malfunctioning.

Your gal bladder and also your pancreas, are both contained in your chest and any one of a number of problems with these two organs, will lead to chest pain. It can be a symptom of gall stones, which is a very painful condition. So if you experience severe pain, you should always seek immediate medical help, but don’t try to diagnose yourself because the causes are many.

Acute Bronchitis Treatment

To treat a case of acute bronchitis, one must take some steps in reducing the bronchitis symptoms. This is not a difficult task, especially if you are a healthy person, your only problem being bronchitis. Antibiotics are not one of the medication that work in case of bronchitis. Furthermore, if there is already a problem with your lungs, or with your heart, the bronchitis treatment will be a little more aggressive.

– realiving the cough, which is the trade mark for bronchitis; this is done by drinking a lot of fluids, taking cough drops and staying away from any irritants that may irritate your lungs even more if you have acute bronchitis; a person can also use in cases of bronchitis cough suppressants; these may help you from coughing; another way to go is using expectorants in cases of bronchitis, because these make coughing much easier and also bring up the mucus that is create when having bronchitis;

– if you have a case of acute bronchitis, the best thing to do is avoid alcohol and caffeine; these products may case the loose of fluid in your body;

– if you are a smoke and also suffer from bronchitis, the best thing to do is cut back on the daily number of cigarettes or even stop smoking, if possible;

– because acute bronchitis is an infection, there is a lot of energy used by your body to fight against bronchitis; so in this period you should get a lot of rest and give your body a chance to recuperate and develop the necessary strength to fight bronchitis;

– to fight against fever and the body aches that you might have when suffering from acute bronchitis, you should take aspirin or ibuprofen; however, be careful not to give aspirin to any bronchitis patient that is under twenty years old;

These are some of the things that need to be made at home in order to heal from bronchitis. However, if your doctor considers that in your bronchitis case, there is the need for medication, these may often include the following:

– beta agonists, which can dialate your airways, thus realiving the bronchitis symptom, coughing; but the bad thing about this bronchitis medication is that it may have some side effects, which include tremor or shaking;

– antibiotics are only used in cases of bronchitis where there is the risk of complications;

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy – New Treatment for Shoulder Pain and Rotator Cuff Injuries

Platelet rich plasma has been used for over a decade in treatment of individuals affected with injured and torn ligaments, tendons as well as knee pain due to torn meniscus or arthritis. Shoulder impingement is a painful condition that causes shoulder pain due to tendonitis or bursitis at the acromioclavicular joint or tendonitis of the rotator cuff. The acromioclavicular joint is where the clavicle articulates with the front part of the scapula.The theory is the that excessive impingement associated with rubbing of the rotator cuff tendons under the clavicle and over the scapula causes shoulder pain. Many patients that undergo arthroscopic shoulder surgery continue to have pain after the procedure. Additionally, they must have weeks, if not months of rehabilitative therapy. Even with this, shoulder pain can continue.

WHAT IS THE COMMON TREATMENT FOR SHOULDER PAIN?

Arthroscopic surgery for “impingement syndrome” including A-C joint or rotator cuff injuries has become a standard, commonly performed procedure in the United States, on the premise that this will relieve the patient’s shoulder pain. The use of arthroscopic surgery for this condition was developed in the 1970s.. With arthroscopic shoulder surgery, the orthopedic surgeon will shave away some of the bone and “trim” any fraying of the cartilage in the area of the A-C joint and shoulder cartilage. The thinking is to make more room for the rotator cuff and relieve the pressure. The problem is that these problems are not always the cause for shoulder pain. Shoulder pain has many causes, many of which are not always easy to identify – very similar to low back pain. Like low back pain, surgery is frequently not the answer to relieving pain. Conservative therapy with shoulder rehabilitation should always be tried first, using anti-inflammatory agents, physical therapy and holding off on certain activities that are exacerbating the pain. Home stretching exercises should be done regularly. Cortisone injections can provide lasting relief as well.

PLATELET RICH PLASMA CAN HELP CLEAR UP SHOULDER PAIN

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) can offer patients an alternative treatment for their shoulder pain and rotator cuff injuries. Platelet rich plasma works by the body’s own natural healing process. Your own blood is drawn and processed in a sterile technique. The PRP is drawn off, with concentrations of platelets of up to 700% of baseline. It is the platelets that contain the growth factors, proteins and cytokines that trigger the cascade of healing and tissue regeneration. Kyphoplasty, the Latest Treatment For Vertebral Compression Fractures

Vertebral compression fractures may occur with major trauma, such as a motorcycle accident, or with something as insignificant as a sneeze, or stepping off of a curb. With a compression fracture, the bone compressed and collapses into itself, similar to squeezing a Styrofoam peanut between your fingers.

How much force it takes to cause a compression fracture, depends on the quality of the bone. Elderly women with osteoporosis have frail, thin bones, which are easily crushed. But even the young strong bone of an 18 year old, will collapse if sufficient force is applied. These fractures may also be caused by metastatic disease, and multiple myeloma, which can weaken the bone to the point that it simply collapses.

A large majority of these fractures are termed wedge fractures, which refers to the shape of the fractured vertebra. The anterior, or front part of the vertebra, is compressed, and the posterior or back portion maintains its height. But in some cases, when sufficient force is applied, the entire vertebra is flattened.

Compression fractures cause the sudden severe pain and disability. The compression fracture itself will generally cause only back pain, focused at the sight of the fracture. Occasionally, when fracture fragments are forced out of place and begin pressing on nerves, there may be buttock and lower extremity pain as well.

Historically, the treatment for these fractures has been bed rest, and pain medication. Depending on how stable the fracture was thought to be, sometimes a brace or body cast would be added. Young people were more likely to survive the period of immobility. In the elderly population, with multiple medical problems, there was a high rate of mortality from the immobilization. People often had complications with pneumonia, blood clots, and loss of muscle. In many cases, even though the fracture would heal, people were never able to return to regular activity.

In 1998 the first kyphoplasty was performed. This new procedure has been shown to restore the height of the vertebra, and quickly stabilize the fracture. There is almost an immediate reduction in pain making it possible to mobilize patients the day after surgery. Braces or body casts are generally not necessary.

This surgery is performed through a tiny 1/2 inch incision. A large needle is threaded precisely into the center of the damaged vertebra, using flouroscopic x-ray guidance. Then a balloon is inserted and inflated in the center of the fracture. This pushes the fracture fragments back out to their original position, re-establishing the dimensions of the vertebra, and correcting any deformity.

When the surgeon is satisfied with the shape and height of the vertebra, the balloon is deflated and withdrawn. The void that is left is then filled with methyl methacrylate, which is the same bone cement that is used to glue prosthetic joint replacements in place. Within minutes this hardens and immediately stabilizes the fracture fragments.

Most people are up the next day. If their pain is not completely resolved, is greatly improved. They are generally able to return to their normal activities within a few weeks.

Ironman Tips You May Find Helpful

Here are a few bits of information I’ve thought of along the way that may be helpful to you. Please read them. Some are extremely important and could have a profound effect on your Ironman effort…

1) As race-week approaches, avoid any changes in your sleep pattern if possible.

2) Don’t make any last minute changes to your equipment. If you are trying anything new, make sure you try it out 3 or 4 weeks before the event. Two serious mistakes I made: In my first ever Ironman–buying new tubes for race-day and having the wrong size and finding out an hour before the swim start of the biggest race of my life. In another race, buying new goggles at the Ironman fair because they looked pretty cool–and they leaked through-out the entire race… Don’t even think it…

3) This is important! Don’t get a bike-tune up just before the big race! Do it a month before or 3 weeks before and RIDE IT! These guys make mistakes and you don’t want to find out on the race course or have a disaster just before the race.. One year I made this mistake. Before my last training ride, I had a new chain put on with only 8 days to go until race-day. The chain was not put on properly with the correct tension and flew off while I was standing up in the pedals. I ended up with a concussion and a broken collar-bone. My Ironman was over for the year–before it even started. I should have been more careful and not left it so late. Never should have happened.

4) Don’t change your diet the week prior to Ironman. Stay with what got you there. If possible–get a room with kitchen facilities and buy your own food. Cook what you cook at home. Be careful at the carbo load. After one carbo load pre-race dinner I developed food poisoning and it greatly effected my race. BE CAREFUL!

5) Practice wet-suit stripping at home. Get used to reaching around and pulling the zipper down. On race-day, unzip it as soon as you get out of the water and pull it off your arms and down to your hips. As you approach the wet-suit strippers, just lay down and they will each take one side and pull it off and hand it back to you.

6) Sometimes there will be chafing on the back of the neck from swimming with a wetsuit. To be safe, you can put a patch of waterproof tape on that area and that will be more comfortable.

7) Races like Ironman Canada can be cool in the morning. When you head out on the bike I would suggest arm-warmers if it is cool at all. Take a pair of those long sports socks and cut them off at the heel. They will slip nicely up your arm and will keep you warm and then you can just toss them at an aid station along the way. Save your brand new, expensive arm-warmers for training.

8) If you use a fuel belt, you can leave a (old) water bottle at special needs with your drink supplement and re-fill your small bottles from that. Then just toss the water-bottle at an aid station.

9) Make sure you wear a hat on race-day. You must stay as cool as possible. Fill the hat with cool water or ice and put it back on your head. Use sponges regularly on face, neck and shoulders. This is really important on those super hot days.

10) This may seem radical to some, but it you’re planning your first Ironman and have not ever done a short tri, don’t worry about it. Some people will say… “Oh, its a good way to practice transitions.” Hey! If you’re at home, unzip your wetsuit, lay on the floor and have 2 people pull it off. Go into bedroom, put on cycling clothes, put on helmet. Go to living room–get on wind-trainer. Congratulations! You’ve just done transitions one! Get off wind-trainer, run to bedroom with cycling shoes and helmet on. Come out with running shoes and cap on. Congratulations! You’ve just done transition two!

My theory is this. There is really nothing in that one short tri that is going to help you on Ironman day. As a matter of fact you could have a problem somewhere on the course and just have a plain, bad day. Now what are you going to think about your upcoming Ironman if you have problems with a short course? It can REALLY damage your self-confidence. It can cause self-doubt. Leave it for Ironman day. I even left my first open-water swim for my first Ironman race day.

11) Flat tires do happen. Practice changing a flat until you know exactly how you will do it and what tools you will need on race-day. Practice on the rear tire, because 9 times out of 10 thats the one that will go flat.

12) Some times it can be little confusing how to pin your numbers on if its your first Ironman. Here is the simplest method. Use a number belt. It goes around your waist and is secured with some sort of clasp or velcro. I used to wear a trisuit under my wetsuit and would put the belt and number on before the swimstart (you would only use one number). Remember: It’s on your back for the bike and your front for the run. With this method all you have to do is take off your wetsuit and put on helmet and bike shoes and your transition is basically done. When you leave run transition just flip the number around to the front for the run portion. Even if you make a complete change for bike and run, I would still suggest a number pelt. It just doesn’t work well to pin numbers directly onto the clothes you’ll be racing in.

13) When I started out doing the Ironman I would leave my shoes and helmet with my bike. I found this is not a good idea for several reasons. You never know where your shoes will end up in all the action that takes place around the bike racks. There’s not a lot of room between bikes. Your cycling shoes could end up anywhere. They can get kicked or run over and end up 4 bikes down from yours. I found it made more sense to just put them in the transition bag and change in the tent. Sure its awkward to get from the tent to your bike in cycling shoes, but you should be taking your time anyway. Don’t run. Let your heart-rate come down. Relax. You’ll be on that bike for a long time. Saving 20 seconds by RUNNING to your bike makes no sense at all. Put your sunglasses and helmet on as you make your way to your bike.

14) DURING THE MARATHON! There is tons!!! of different stuff at the aid stations. Don’t try everything! You don’t need stomach upset at this point in the race. Don’t mix, cookies, fruit, power bars, gels, grapes etc. etc. etc.

If you take pop it will give you a short burst of energy. Then you will crash! The key is, once you start with the pop thing, do it at EVERY aid station for the rest of the race! Keep your sugar level even or do not start with the pop at all.

15) Some marathon aid stations have chicken soup. I know Canada does. you may have to ask for it. This can be a good thing for the heavy sodium content. Keep an eye out for it. Sometimes that extra sodium is just what you need as few triathletes consider sodium replacement during the course of the race. Especially on a very hot day.

Analysis Paralysis – The Mindset

So you are probably reaching the point in your business where you’re still wanting to learn all you can get your hands on, but not sure how to transfer this information into progress. So instead of taking a chance you tell yourself that you’ll just listen to one more training call, or finish one more training module. In other words you have analysis paralysis.

A procrastination method that can partly be blamed on the overload of information that is wildly available on the Internet on virtually any subject. So when sifting through all the information available think “Do I really need to know this right now?” “Will this have a direct and instant impact?” If you answer no or not yet, make a mental note or bookmark it and comeback later when it will be more useful to you.

Analysis paralysis can also happen when you start to hit the wall. You may start to get frustrated with the amount of work you have put into your business and have yet to reap the benefits. You may think the answer is to keep adding to your knowledge database. Sometimes this may work and trigger an unknown fact or marketing method, but most time this just ends as another method of procrastination.

In order to overcome this analysis you need to ask yourself “How much do I really want this?” If you are ready to take the leap into a successful business than you need to fink a way to break through the wall. You will never be successful if you don’t try.
