Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment For Common Cold

Viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory system is known as common cold by common folk. Medical term for this disease is acute viral nasopharyngitis. Among human diseases, this is the most common and contagious disease that affects adults and its recurrence rate is average of two to four times per year. Recurrence rate can go up to twelve times in a year if it attacks school children. When weather changes from one season to another season in tropical countries, common cold will become widespread, and it usually occurs after school holidays. November to January and March to August are the two alarming periods. Common cold in bodies can be aggravated by haze, which is released from the open burning of biomass such as paddy and wheat straws. A weakened immune system, which is mostly due to not enough sleep or rest, can do the same harm as the haze. Secondary bacterial infection of the sinuses, pneumonia and asthma is due to the untreated prolonged cases of common cold.

Most common colds are caused by the infection of virus known as rhinovirus. Coronavirus, human parainfluenza viruses, or human respiratory syncytial virus are the other types of viruses that also can cause a common colds. Types of viruses that can cause cold can go up to 200 types and most of them are already present in the environment. A resistance is never built up against to these viruses in our body is due to the variety of these viruses and also the development of new viruses. Because of this, cold quite often recurs. Before the body’s immune system defeats the cold virus, it can infect the next person.

Sneezing or coughing can spread virus particle through air and when a person breathes in these particles, it can cause that person catches cold. The second ways, where a person can catch cold is through person to person contact such as shake hand, hug and etc. A cold can also be spread by accidentally touching the mouth or nose with a rhinovirus contaminated hands. Nevertheless, the most threatening is sneezing because a significantly high concentration of virus can be expelled from sneezing. The falling rate of the virus cloud expelled from sneezing can last for hours in air. The virus cloud is invisible because parts of the droplet nuclei evaporating in air. Due to the evaporating of parts of the droplet nuclei and leaving much smaller and invisible droplet nuclei in the air, the virus cloud is unable to be visualized with bare eyes. Droplets from turbulent sneezing or coughing, which have been spat on any surface, can last for hours. Surface that has been contaminated by droplets through hand contact also can last for a few hours. When the virus enters the cells of the lining of the nasopharynx , which is the area between the nose and throat, it will multiply rapidly.

One to three days is the incubation period, which is the time between becoming infected and developing symptoms. About one day before symptoms begin, that is the infectious period begins. During this time, the infected person can infect others and the infectious period will continue for the first five days of the illness. In a crowded room with the close proximity of an infected person will cause the virus spread more rapidly. That’s why children get infected easily in class-rooms or playgrounds.

Sore, scratchy, and phlegmy throat together with congestion and runny nose, sneezing and coughing is the first indication of cold. Side symptoms such as muscle aches, fatigue and weakness may accompany sometimes. Heavy fever or headache, which leads to extreme exhaustion is rarely caused by colds but mostly caused by influenza, a very virulent virus. Cold in severe and rare cases may accompany symptoms of conjunctivitis such as red, itchy, or watery eyes. If infants or young children catch cold, the symptoms mentioned above may be more severe. For a sufferer who has recovered from common cold will develop immunity in his or her body to the particular virus. However, different kind of cold virus still can easily infect this person. Generally, cold usually will end after five to seven days, but residual symptoms such as coughing and sneezing can last up to one to fourteen days depending to infected person health condition.

Hence, to prevent ourselves from contracting a cold from this person, the best way is to avoid contact with such person and also stay far from this person. Moreover, we should not share towels or eating utensils such as glass, bottle with someone who has a cold. If you are the one who catches cold, try to practise good hygiene such as washing your hands thoroughly and frequently after blowing your nose. Besides, you should try to avoid touching your mouth and face in order that your hands will not contaminate with droplet. To prevent from transmitting the disease to other unaffected people, you should cover your nose and mouths with handkerchief when coughing or sneezing.

However, there are medications we can take to relieve the symptoms of the cold. For the last 50 years, herbal formulation to treat common cold already available in Europe. Phormium – How to Grow New Zealand Flax

The Phormium, or New Zealand Flax, is a truly striking plant that adds a touch of the exotic to any garden. As fully hardy plants, Phormiums are almost certain to thrive in any garden and they also tolerate many soil types. After buying your plants you should move them in to their final positions as soon as physically possible. Fertilise your plants as and when needed with a good quality general fertiliser during the growing season and this will help to ensure plants grow well and produce deeply coloured foliage.

Add a surface mulch around the base of plants in Autumn. Organic matter or bracken leaves can be used to protect plants from cold Winters and ensure that they grow well the following year. If growing plants in containers you can move them into a shed or frost free greenhouse. Failing this you may wish to move pots closer to the house for the radiating heat will help warm plants at night.

Warning Signs

Skin cancers rank the most common cancer in dogs, while bone, blood, gastrointestinal tract and lymph nodes are also sites where cancer cells develop. Cancer accounts for almost half of the deaths of dogs older than 10 years of age.

Watch out for these signs and behaviour changes which are indications that you should schedule a physical checkup at your vet’s office as soon as possible: an abnormal new lump, changes to an existing lump, sores that refuse to heal, discharge or bleeding from any opening (nose, mouth, urinary, etc), difficulty in passing motion, difficulty in breathing, vomiting and diarrhea, limping, foul breath, body odour, and loss of stamina. Remember that early detection increases your canine’s chances of survival.

Amongst other factors, poor diet and nutrition based on processed foods are largely blamed for our modern day health problems faced by humans. Similarly this is what our furry pets are facing too – they rarely eat raw and are eating heavily processed dry foods. A change in diet especially during the time when they are suffering from cancer plays a key role in helping the animal fight cancer.

7 Facts You Need to Know About Pneumonia Vaccine

1. Pneumonia is an illness that is typically the result of a pneumococcus bacterial infection in the lungs, and there are more than eighty different strains and varieties of this bacteria type. The vaccine given will not protect against all of these bacteria, but it does protect against the twenty-three most common types. This vaccine also will not protect against the illness caused by other factors, such as fluid or food particles lodged in the lungs.

Comfrey Leaf is an Effective Healer

Comfrey has a long history of effectiveness as a healer plant. It has the reputation of being able to knit bones together thus accounting for many of the common names (boneset, nipbone, knitbone, and healing herb).

Comfrey leaves are similar to Foxglove leaves, though they have smaller veins not extending into the wings of the leaf-stalk. Care should be taken when using Comfrey with very deep wounds as its rapid healing power can lead to tissue forming over the wound before it is healed deeper down, possibly leading to abscesses. Make sure that wounds are thoroughly cleaned and protected from infection.

Bronchitis With a Rattling Cough

Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchi, which are situated in your lungs and sometimes in the trachea, the windpipe conveying air from your nose to your lungs. Any inflammation in your lungs is going to cause difficulty in breathing regardless of the cause, which can be many and varied.

You may feel congested and may have a lot of catarrh. Bronchitis can vary in form from a mild acute problem, to a full blown chronic and serious problem. While it is not wise for anyone untrained to treat any serious respiratory problem, you can treat yourself for the mild forms, for the recurring types and in addition to normal treatment.

This article is all about a rattling cough which seems to come from your throat or deep in your chest. A rattling cough means you have a lot of catarrh. You feel congested. Often you can’t cough up the mucus although you want to and try really hard to. It just won’t come up. For any cough which fits this picture, the homeopathic medicine Antimonium tartaricum (Ant tart for short) can be a god send.

Frequently this type of moist cough comes at the extremes of life. New-borns may have it. The elderly may experience it, so it is often referred to as the death rattle.

Winter is a bad time, with this cough and congestion recurring several times. Your immune system is not able to shrug this off. Those who will benefit from Ant tart can be, but not necessarily, in a weak state. They may fall asleep during a coughing fit.

The disease label, of say bronchitis, is not indicative of this effective use of this medicine. What is important is your unique symptoms. So if you have bronchitis, but the above symptom picture doesn’t fit you, Ant tart won’t do you any good at all.
