Chiropractic Care For Sciatica – What Do They Do?

Chiropractors are a conservative, noninvasive and drugless form of medical care. In fact, it is generally accepted that this kind of care should be done before any invasive procedure is pursued such as back surgery. Chiropractic care has been well documented in being successful for conservative medical attention. Sciatic pain is right up a Chiropractor’s alley. Chiropractors are legendary in treating patients with back problems. They routinely diagnose (test) and successfully treat back and leg pain. Whether you have a pinched nerve, muscle, ligament or tendon ailments that may be causing your pain a chiropractor will take the proper time to examine your back and leg pain to determine the exact source of your sciatic pain. Essentially, chiropractors help your body heal itself.

It is important to understand that sciatica is not an actual diagnosis but rather an underlying symptom of your problem. A chiropractor will start by assessing the known five culprits (guilty parties) of the symptom sciatica. These five culprits include:

• Herniated disc problems

• Spinal stenosis (narrowing)

• Facet joint problems

• Nerve entrapment

• Presence of tumors, infection or metabolic complications

It is necessary for a chiropractor to determine if your pain is caused by a herniated or ruptured disc. This condition in medical terms is known as sciatic neuritis. Neuritis means the nervous system is involved (neuro = nerves and itis = inflammation). The diagnosis (evaluation) and treatment program will be for “disc injury”.

If you don’t have neuritis, then the chiropractor will check for spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is another common cause of sciatica that is a narrowing of the spinal column that can generate inflammation of nerves. If this is your diagnosis for your leg pain, then you will be treated specifically for that.

So far, you don’t have a herniated disc or spinal stenosis so the chiropractor will look for lumbar facet symptoms. Your facet joints come in pairs at the back of each spinal vertebrae. These facet joints link the vertebrae above to the one below to form a functioning joint that allows for movement of the spine. This is not so different from knee joints only you have many of them up and down your spine between each of your spinal bones. This allows you to slightly bend your spinal column up, down and sideways as well as twist. Think of all the movements your spinal column can do when you work a hula-hoop. It’s amazing. So facet joint syndrome is referring to pain that occurs in your facet joints. These joints are filled with synovial fluid just like your spinal discs. Your discs act as cushions between your vertebra and the fact joint allows your vertebra to move in a number of different directions. If this is your problem, the chiropractor has a therapy that works on this particular problem.

Don’t have any of the above? Now the chiropractor will look for nerve entrapment syndrome. What this is about is mechanical imbalances in the spine and hip with damaged discs (but not herniated) with facet joint movement restrictions. This can lead to muscular tightness that may lead to nerve entrapment of the sciatic nerve. The muscles involved here are the piriformis muscles. Chiropractors will perform muscles therapies on these muscles to loosen them and restore balance to your spinal joints and release pressure on the sciatic nerve.

If none of the above is diagnosed, your chiropractor will refer you to another doctor to determine if you have any tumors, infections or metabolic problems.

Therefore, the goal of a chiropractor is to diagnose (find out what you have) and treat you for that specific problem in a conservative way (noninvasively, no surgery). This involves active hands on care to return full motion to the spine by treating disc, joint and muscle problems. Spinal manipulations may include thrusting techniques, non-thrusting techniques, instrument-assisted therapies such as the Graston technique for muscle problems, trigger point therapy, stretching and resistance techniques, electrical stimulation, ultrasound as well as alignments. The chiropractor’s goal is to return normal back function. The chiropractor’s job doesn’t end there. Overly, the chiropractor knows that prevention of back problems is important and will instruct you on how to keep your back healthy.

Respiratory Allergies – 8 Specific Symptoms and Causes

What are respiratory allergies? We must have all asked this question sometimes. We are all effected in one way or another, whether it is summer or we are cleaning our basements. These type of allergic reactions are those that affect the organs and the airways that help us to breathe. In this article, I will be sharing with you some specific symptoms and causes of this sensitive condition.

The thing with people with allergies is that they are overly sensitive to certain things that most people don’t have a problem with. This would include pollen from plants, mold, dust, cockroaches and food.

When a person that is sensitive comes in contact with what causes them to be sensitive, the allergen, the immune system releases a large amount of a chemical called histamine. A large amount of this histamine causes tissue swelling or inflammation or the tightening of muscles.

Symptoms:

Some people are allergic to different things. One person may be allergic to pollen, somebody else may be sensitive to something else.

1) Itchiness

2) Watery or red eyes

3) Coughing

4) Sneezing

5) Stuffiness in the nose

6) Shortness of breath

7) Wheezing

8) Airways that are constricted and swollen (in extreme cases – called anaphylactic shock)

Common Allergies That Affect The Respiratory System:

1) Hay Fever – This affects many people all over the world. Hay fever usually happens in the summer from pollen such as from the grass or even flowers.

2) Food and Drug Allergies – You can get this situations from eating such things such as fish and shellfish. You will usually develop an upset stomach or even a skin reaction and breathing problems. Medications can also cause some problems. Sometimes, you may develop a reaction if you eat peanuts, milk or eggs.

3) Insect Allergies – Insects such as cockroaches is another major cause of problems. This usually takes place in cities. It also affects children in big urban cities. Bees stings for example can be very dangerous to overly sensitive people.

4) Allergic Asthma – Asthma is a fast growing disease all over the country. This problem is a major cause of hospital admission for children each year.

Causes Of Respiratory Allergies:

1) Family history

2) Exposure to air pollution

3) Exposed to some workplace substances

4) Second hand smoke

5) Some health conditions – If you had infections when you were a child growing up

Treatment:

The best way to avoid an attack is to prevent the allergen. Not always easy to do at times. You could place pets in another room where you are not in all the times. You should also make sure to regularly clean your home, so that you do not have a build up of dust. Also, make sure you do not spend a lot of time being in damp areas. This will definitely expose you to mold. If the problem gets worse, make sure to see your doctor or pharmacist.

Does a Sore Throat Or Stuffy Nose Make You Miserable? Humidify!

Dry winter air is well known for causing sore throats and stuffy noses for millions of people across the country. Low humidity creates havoc to nasal membranes and makes your throat scratchy and irritated. If you suffer from these issues every year, you might want to take action and prepare yourself with a humidifier.

Adding moisture to the home environment is a common way to deal with dry air in the winter. More moisture in the air provides relief to sufferers and makes for a happier family. Adding moist air is done by using the common electric humidifier or steam pot that uses heat from a wood stove or fireplace. Either way you go, your family will notice an immediate difference in their comfort and ability to breathe.

One of the main pros to an electric humidifier is the amount of flexibility you have with locations. All you need is an electrical outlet and you’ll be able to provide relief to that room. A stove steamer limits your location choice since it needs to be placed on the stove or inside the fireplace to be used. If you have a wood stove or fireplace, a cast aluminum or brass steamer may be just what you are looking for. Because they come in different shapes and sizes, they can also be a unique conversation piece.

These little devices combine a practical way of adding moisture to the air, while at the same time, blend very well into your decor. A dragon stove steamer even emits little puffs from the nostrils creating a funny little spectacle.

Because they hold up to 1.5 quarts of water, the unit can puff mist into the air for hours without using an ounce of electricity. If you are looking for a unique way to combat a sore throat or stuffy nose, a dragon stove steamer may be just what the doctor ordered.

Autism – Genetic and Environmental Causes

Autism causes are a complex mix of genetic and environmental factors that researchers have yet to fully understand. Studies of identical and fraternal twins reveal that genetics play an important role in autism.

A Brief Description of Autism

Defining autism is difficult, as the disorder covers a wide range of symptoms and severity can range from mild to debilitating. A neurological disorder, it causes impairment in social interaction and communication. A person with autism may have restricted interests or engage in abnormal, repetitive behavior. Depending on the severity of symptoms, it causes mild to debilitating impairment.

Autism is part of a group of related disorders collectively called autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). The autism spectrum, as its name implies, describes a range of symptoms, rather than specific disorders. Other ASDs include Asperger’s syndrome, Retts syndrome and childhood disintegrative disorder, as well as pervasive developmental disorder, not otherwise specified.

Genetic Autism Causes

Most cases have no known cause, but the tendency for disorders of the autism spectrum to run in families suggests a genetic component. Families with one autistic child have a 3 to 8 percent chance that their other children will be autistic.

Twin studies demonstrate the importance of genetics in establishing causes. If one identical twin has autism, studies reveal a 30 percent chance that the other twin is also autistic.

In addition to twin studies, autism research reveals that families of autistic children have a much higher rate of communication defects, impaired social skills or restricted interests, all of which are hallmarks of classic autism and fall within the autism spectrum.

Despite the strong evidence for genetic causes, parents of autistic children are rarely autistic themselves, although they may display personality traits suggestive of autism. Genetics alone, then, does not necessarily account for autism.

Environmental Catalysts and Autism Genetics

Many researchers believe that the potential for autism lies in genetics, but environmental factors are required to “trigger” the disease. Over time, a number of environmental causes have been identified that may act as catalysts for autism, including:

  • bacterial meningitis
  • cytomegalovirus
  • developmental brain disorders
  • fragile X syndrome
  • lead encephalopathy
  • rubella
  • some metabolic disorders
  • toxoplasmosis
  • tuberous sclerosis.

These disorders are not considered definitive causes. Most children who experience these conditions do not develop autism. However these conditions may interact with existing genetic factors, resulting in autism.

Vaccination and Disproven Autism Causes

Some suggested causes have proven false. The early theory that a distant or uncaring mother causes autism has long been disproven.

More recently, an argument was made that the mercury preservative used in vaccinations caused autism. Despite significant research, no link between vaccination and autism has ever been found.

Genetics, Autism and the Future

Most researchers doubt that causes can be traced to a single gene. Instead, they believe that a number of different genes contribute to the development of autism. Some autism experts have even speculated that in the future, what we now label autism will be recognized as a group of similar, but separate diseases.

It may take years to unravel the roles genetics and environment play in autism, but the goal is attainable. Understanding autism causes will help the search for effective treatments and better therapies for autism.

Bee Pollen And Diabetes

Diabetes and bee pollen is not something you would normally expect to see together in the same sentence. However, bee pollen has positive effects for diabetes sufferers.

Before we discuss the benefits, I think a brief explanation of diabetes is needed for the people who are not really sure what it is.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes occurs when the body is not able to produce the necessary insulin required by the body which in turn leads to blood sugar levels rising to a dangerous level.

This condition is known as diabetes and it is chronic or never ending.

This is often described as a “lifestyle disease” as it is frequently found in people who are overweight, obese or who do very little physical exercise.

There is another condition known as pre-diabetes where some of the indicators of diabetes are seen, which can eventually lead to diabetes.

At this point diabetes is still reversible by people who make the right lifestyle changes, such as being careful with their diet, taking regular exercise, and controlling their weight – all of which are very important.

The US CDC states that pre-diabetes is estimated to be found in 79 million people in the USA which gives some indication of the problem.

The most common form of diabetes affecting almost 18 million Americans is Diabetes 2, which is itself not reversible. Statistics show that diabetes occurs most in people who are overweight and over 40 years of age.

Regardless of whether people are taking medication or insulin for this condition, the above mentioned lifestyle changes are an essential part of the treatment for diabetes.

This is where bee pollen comes into the picture.

Bee pollen and diabetes

Bees collect nectar from flowers, and at the time they are doing this they are also collecting pollen. This pollen is collected by it sticking to the bee’s body and legs.

It is then mixed with some nectar and some bee saliva and this is where “bee pollen” is created. This is the food used by the bees which allows them to lead their incredibly busy lives, and to provide all the nutrients for growth.

This superfood is extremely dense in all the 96 known nutrients and comes with trace elements, enzymes, minerals and essential amino acids. This is often referred to as nature’s perfect food.

There are many benefits that can be obtained from bee pollen but the following benefits are of particular interest to people with diabetes problems:

– weight gain can be controlled as it increases the metabolism and normalizes chemical imbalances in the body,

– it is a great source of anti-oxidants,

– it contains Nicotinamide that has been used in diabetes treatment and prevention,

– by boosting the immune system it helps with wound healing and fighting diabetes (Vitamins A,C and E)

– stamina, endurance, energy, and strength is increased (Vitamin B3 complex)

– physical and mental reaction is improved,

– and it relieves stress.

– also at only 90 calories to the ounce it is a low-calorie food giving a high nutrient value per calorie compared other sources of food.

You can see that this is a powerful addition to your fight to minimize the ongoing effects of having diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Combined with a healthy lifestyle this will increase your overall feeling of wellbeing.

How do I take bee pollen?

The easiest way to gain the benefits of this superfood is to take it in the form of supplements which will not only contain a measured dose but will be boosted even more by the added natural ingredients.

However, it is always best to make sure that you buy only from the most reliable sources, from places where there is a clean and healthy environment and the supplement is produced under the strictest manufacturing processes.

The Dangers of Morbid Obesity

Synonyms for morbid abound: bleak, grim, cheerless, dismal, foreboding, joyless, morose, ominous, and hopeless. No wonder people are offended to be diagnosed with a condition suggesting such grisly unwholesomeness.

Medically speaking, however, the word ‘morbid’ denotes a condition that has progressed to the level of unhealthiness or disease. Morbid obesity is defined as being 100 pounds over ideal body weight, or at least 200% of ideal body weight.

Just as alcoholism leads to liver damage and family disruption, morbid obesity is associated with predictable patterns of disease. While it’s true, not every person who fits the definition will suffer from any of these, the following problems are common enough to be classified as dangers of morbid obesity:

1. Diabetes Type 2. Obesity is associated with insulin resistance, a condition which may require greater insulin output than the pancreas can supply. When glucose levels outstrip insulin production, diabetes results, a risk factor for heart disease and a multitude of chronic problems.

2. High blood pressure. Just as weight loss can lower blood pressure, weight gain will increase both systolic and diastolic levels. Fairly often diabetes and hypertension are found in the same individual, thus multiplying the risk for cardiovascular problems, including heart attack and stroke.

3. High cholesterol. Both high food intake and high body weight contribute to elevated cholesterol levels, a third factor for cardiovascular disease.

4. Sleep apnea and breathing difficulties. When fat accumulates in the upper body, it may contribute to airway obstruction, especially during sleep, producing periods of decreased oxygenation and frequent awakening. This leads to daytime sleepiness and the feeling of never being refreshed. Additionally, breathing becomes more of an effort as the body must lift additional tissue to allow the lungs to expand. As exercise becomes more difficult, a person often becomes less active, leading to deconditioning and further difficulty breathing.

5. Degenerative joint and disc disease. The body is a machine, created with certain tolerances. Our knees, hips, and back were not designed to carry an extra hundred pounds all day long, year after year. Just like shocks on an overloaded truck, the weight-bearing joints give out with time, leading to pain and impaired movement.

6. Heart disease. The heart was designed with the ability to pump blood effectively, but only within a certain capacity. As the body expands, the heart must work harder. Eventually it can’t keep up and congestive heart failure occurs. Additionally, obesity is a risk factor for accumulation of cholesterol within the coronary arteries, which may lead to angina or myocardial infarction (heart pain or heart attack).

7. Fatigue. Lugging around a spare tire day after day would make anyone tired. Carrying around a whole set seems impossible, yet many people carry this much weight and more every moment of their lives. It’s no surprise that transporting the equivalent of a dozen bowling balls makes a person fatigued.

8. Venous stasis edema. Excess fat sometimes chokes off the circulation returning from the lower body. Just as sitting on a garden hose would limit water flow through the hose, compression of the large pelvic and abdominal veins by a large abdomen decreases flow through these blood vessels. It’s easy enough for arterial blood to reach the feet – it’s downhill all the way. But the return blood flow is uphill through the venous circulation. When venous circulation is compromised, swelling of the legs results. When this continues year after year, it causes chronic scarring and darkening of the stretched skin.

9. Blood clots. Obesity is associated with increased inflammation, which tends to make the blood stickier, thus clotting more easily. Sticky blood, in association with inactivity and slower venous blood flow, increases the risk for blood clots. Most commonly, these begin in the legs, then sometimes move to the heart or lungs where they can, indeed, be fatal.

Although the above list does appear bleak, grim, cheerless, dismal, foreboding, joyless, and ominous, it is far from hopeless. Weight loss can improve or reverse every one of these conditions. Start today and make a difference.

Scabies Rash – How Long Does the Itching Last After Applying the Cream

Scabies rash is one of the itchiest skin rashes and also has the drawback that is very contagious. Direct touch of the skin by someone with the mites can cause them to transfer to another person. The rash is an allergic response to the foreign material in the body.

The areas most written about for scabies are the creases in the elbows, webs between fingers, wrist areas, stomach and back areas. Some doctors will do a skin scraping with mineral oil to test for scabies, but many dermatologist won’t do this procedure. Sometimes a biopsy is sent to the lab to analyze if scabies and their organisms can be detected.Though the female mite will make a burrow when burying under the skin, this isn’t often visible due to the fact that it can be scratched away and it is such a thin line for the eye to see.

Because the scabies rash can look like atopic eczema, poison oak and other rashes, it isn’t always as simple to diagnosis as other skin conditions. For instance, a herpes cold sore has featured that can be easily identified.

The most common way to treat the rash is to use the elimite permethrin cream which has a 5 percent concentration. It is a topical cream applied for eight to fourteen hours from the neck to the bottom of the feet. After this time period people still may itch for a few weeks and this can create anxiety that the scabies cream wasn’t effective. The body is still ridding of itself of the allergic reaction to the scabies mites, eggs and waste material.

If one has applied the cream properly, washed clothing and bedding according to instructions in very hot water and not continued to be in contact with others that are infected at school, work or an elderly facility than the

rash will clear up over the next few weeks. One reason why they advise family members to also apply the cream is to prevent the re-infestation of the mites by an untreated person.

Psychologically, dealing with an itchy skin rash can be very draining due to insomnia, fears of being contagious and anxiety that the skin condition won’t heal. Following the instructions properly will assure  the fastest recovery. Remember that over the counter lice creams are not strong enough to treat a scabies rash as they are formulate at one percent and not five percent.

A Natural Cure For Psoriasis – Are There Home Remedies to Treat Scalp Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a common problem and it is believed up to 7.5 million people in America suffer from this disease. Psoriasis can take many forms but a lot of people suffer from scalp psoriasis.

This can be a very real problem as it can be wrongly perceived to be dandruff by other people causing suffering and embarrassment to those with the disease.

If you suffer from psoriasis then it is no fun at all. The National Psoriasis Foundation in one study in 2008 noted that 58% of sufferers were embarrassed by their condition.

I am a psoriasis sufferer myself and have had scalp psoriasis for over 7 years now. I have been to the doctors and skin specialists and their prescription treatments didn’t really help.

I needed to try something else and someone suggested aloe vera gel. I am glad they did. The method I used was to use fresh leaves from an aloe vera plant. I carefully removed one side of the skin and scraped the inside jelly out.

I then took this gel and put it in a mini food processor and liquefied it. I then took the metal tip off my poultry flavor infuser syringe and sucked up the liquid. Then I got my boyfriend to apply this liquid onto my scalp.

I came up with the syringe method as it made it easier to apply the gel through my hair to the scalp itself. I do this most nights and it has really improved my scalp psoriasis with less flaking and itching.

Symptoms Of a Honey Allergy – How to Treat and Prevent Them

A few people are allergic to honey. They cannot eat or apply honey to their skin because their immune systems would react badly. Are you one of the people who suffer from a honey allergy? More often than not, people who have this allergy also react badly to bee pollen, wax and propolis. They develop mild or severe symptoms depending on the bee product they have taken. Also, a person can suffer severely for eating honey if he or she is taking some drugs to cure a certain disease. If you react terribly to this substance, it is sensible to avoid it altogether.

Most Common symptoms to expect

Many people develop signs in the mouth and respiratory system. For example they suffer from a runny nose, swollen lips or tongue, sneezing and itchy throat after consuming honey. There are some who have watery eyes and hives on the skin. Severe signs may include extreme congestion, headaches, skin irritation and a foggy brain. Some of us get stubbing stomach pains after consuming a considerable amount of honey. If one is greatly affected by this substance, their immune system may become very weak thus allowing germs to cause sicknesses.

How to get rid of honey allergy symptoms

Honey affects adults and children differently. In addition, it causes different signs in different people. Treatment therefore depends on the age of a person and how severe their symptoms look. Diphenhydramine-a type of antihistamine- is commonly used to treat honey allergies. Most of you know it as Benadryl. It provides relief in fifteen minutes thus giving you enough time to take a person to a doctor. There are certainly many other antihistamines in drugstores and chemists. The problem they have is that they provide relief very slowly. Some of them take up to twenty-four hours to reduce the signs of a honey allergy. The main thing is to see a doctor if symptoms persist.

How to prevent hypersensitivity caused by honey

This will mainly depend on how bad your reaction to honey is. If you have mild signs that go away on their own, you may continue to use honey in moderation. On the other hand, if you suffer badly after consumption of this bee product, you must avoid it altogether. This means that you will stop eating foods that contain this substance, too, including Greek pastries and tea with honey. So it will be sensible to ask foods and drinks vendors if their products have honey. If you cannot avoid this natural food, you may ask your doctor if it is fine to consume diphenhydramine prior to eating honey.

Most commonly reported complications

If you take too long to see a doctor or take diphenhydramine, you could experience terrible complications. Good examples include spells of dizziness and fainting, shortness of breath and even convulsions. All these are signs of anaphylactic shock. It is good to know the emergency numbers you could call to request an ambulance if you suspect that a person has this shock.

Depression – The Secret Of

The secret of depression is that it is a none life threatening condition being treated by the medical industry with mood alternating drugs which can threaten you life, even destroy your life and are very profitable for them. None life threatening means that the depression will not directly cause your body to not function and die as with cancer or heart disease. This depression treatment seems validated by the fact that at first the symptoms are treated fast and the problem seems to be solved. The problems begin later when more or stronger drugs must be taken to mask the original depression or the original problem.

The long term effects of taking these drugs along with the drug side effects is the dependence on the drugs to be able to relate to others as close to normal as possible. Depression is caused by stress, life style, difficult problems, diet and others which cause our brain to use up it supply of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are a chemical messenger used by neuron (nerve cells) to communicate in the brain . This is why with most of us can correct our depression with a vacation. Time, diet and lack of 24/7 stress is the answer for most of us. Given these our body can corrects the chemical imbalance which causes unclear or incorrect messages which we call depression.

The reason that more or stronger drugs are needed for the long term treatment of the symptoms of depression is that our bodies are self adjusting with lots of the automatic functions out of our control. Such as the productions of neurotransmitters and breathing. These drugs cause the brain to function with less neurotransmitters, which seems like a good thing until the body decides that the demand for neurotransmitters has dropped and less is needed and produces less. This causes a cycle of more drugs and less production of neurotransmitters, and a downward spiral into deeper and deeper depression. This vacation solution seems simple, but the application is impossible.

To get the nutrition necessary from our over used, mineral depleted and over processed food supply would take more foods than one could eat. And the 24/7 stress is so much a part of our life that we do not know how or do not want to change. The ideal solution is to give the body what it needs to make and replace the neurotransmitters which are causing you to be depressed. This involves large doses of natural nutrition designed to give the body the means and way to correct the chemical imbalance.

Are Phobias Controlling Your Life? You Don’t Have to Live in Fear Forever

In everyday language the term phobia is often used to simply mean fear or dislike of something. Medically however, it refers to a form of anxiety disorder where one experiences unreasonable, intense, and persistent fear of certain objects (including animals and people), situations, or activities. It is believed that these fears stem from childhood experiences. Phobias in some individuals can lead to panic attacks. A recent study by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) found that more than 6 million Americans suffer from a specific phobia.

There are no laboratory tests to diagnose phobias. However there are certain characteristics that can help establish the diagnosis.

  • The fear must be persistent and does not diminish although the degree varies from one patient to the next. Some people can actually feel the fear by just thinking of the object or situation, and they spend a lot of time worrying about it.
  • There has to be an acute anxiety, which can occasionally lead to a panic attack, when the stimulus (feared object or situation) is present.
  • The fear is excessive and irrational (the patient is in little or no actual danger).
  • The sufferer attempts to avoid the object or situation as best they can, even to the point of disrupting their normal daily functioning.
  • The fear and avoidance are not due to other mental disorders or a medical condition.

Whether or not you should seek treatment for a specific phobia depends on how severely the condition affects your normal life. For instance, if you have a fear of flying but you don’t ever need to fly, then treatment may not be necessary. However, if you have a social phobia and you start to avoid going to work or school, then you definitely need to seek professional help.

Treatments for specific phobias include cognitive behavioral therapy, medications, hypnosis coupled with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and more recently, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). The effectiveness of these treatments vary from person to person. Some therapists also use a combination of different therapies for maximum benefits. It is important that you work together with the specialist to determine which treatment method will be the best for your specific phobia.

Anxiety – 3 Natural Treatments For General Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

We all know what anxiety feels like. Whether it’s our heart racing before a speech or test, or right before meeting someone new, everyone gets anxious here and there. But if your anxiety and fear is preventing you from living the life you know you deserve, there’s a chance you may be suffering from general anxiety disorder. But don’t worry, there are treatments for general anxiety disorder, and I’ll go over them below…

What is general anxiety disorder?

General anxiety disorder is a condition that causes one to experience moments of extreme anxiety, or uncontrollable panic attacks, and it can take a big toll on the quality of your life. But it’s not hopeless, and it can be “cured”. You can reduce the effects you experience if you want – if you follow these treatments for general anxiety disorder.

Anyone who has experienced extreme anxiety knows that the overwhelming and excessive worrying associated with GAD can completely dominate your thoughts, and it can seem impossible to stop the endless cycle of stressing out over everyday things. The good news is, you can take control of your general anxiety disorder and your life if you follow these 3 steps.

What are the natural treatments for general anxiety disorder?

1) Change your diet – It’s very important that you reduce, or better still, eliminate as many stimulant as possible from your diet. This includes caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and excessive sugar. Eating a healthy diet is not necessarily a cure for GAD, but it will help reduce your general level of anxiety.

2) Exercise – exercise is not necessarily a cure for GAD either, but its physical and psychological benefits can greatly reduce your symptoms. Exercising regularly has been shown to reduce stress, boost confidence, and it’s just plain good for you – so get in the habit of exercising for at least 30 minutes every day.

3) Psychotherapy – understanding how anxiety effects you and how to stop it from controlling your life is the most important thing you can do to treat general anxiety disorder. While it can get quite expensive to visit a psychiatrist for therapy, you may want to try it. After all, the positive impact it could have on your life is priceless.

There is also another option…

You can also treat GAD on your own. These days there are many great resources and communities online that can help you learn about your condition and how to end it. Many people have reported outstanding results using internet based, do-it-yourself anxiety treatment programs.

Basically, what these programs do is help you learn about and understand your personal anxiety triggers, and give you the right tools to deal with and prevent your attacks from happening. If you’re short on cash for a psychologist, getting one of these programs is definitely the route you should go. The longer you hold off on taking action, the longer it will be until you end your anxiety attacks forever.

Famous People Who Suffered From Insomnia

Throughout history there have been great numbers of famous people who are known to have suffered from insomnia. The list below includes writers, poets, scientists, political leaders and many others in different walks of life.

In spite of their inability to enjoy the benefits of a full night of deep, peaceful, relaxing sleep, these gifted individuals had the strength of character to cope with their sleep problems and achieve eminence in their lifetime

NAPOLEON: Napoleon is a striking example of a person who managed to get by on as little as three hours sleep. Another famous personality who appeared to need very little sleep was Winston Churchill.

WINSTON CHURCHILL. It is a well-known fact that, for the most part of his life, Churchill suffered from insomnia. He also suffered from severe bouts of depression that persisted until old age. Churchill referred to this depressive state as his “black dog”.

SIR ISAAC NEWTON: The famous British mathematician, astronomer and philosopher, one of the leading pioneers of scientific discovery, whose name is associated with the laws of gravitation, was also known to have suffered from inability to sleep and also severe depression.

THOMAS EDISON, the most famous and prolific inventor in history also had great difficulty in falling asleep.

ROBERT BURNS The Scottish poet, in his personal writings frequently referred to his inability to enjoy the comfort of a full night’ sleep and his fits of melancholy and anxiety.

JOH STUART MILL The famous English economist and philosopher John Stuart Mill was also known to have suffered from bouts of depression and as a result found great difficulty in falling asleep.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, who achieved world renown not only as a statesman and diplomat, but also a scientists and inventor, is also someone who suffered from severe bouts of insomnia.

American presidents who were also insomniacs were

ABRAHAM LINCOLN and THEODORE ROOSEVELT.

And in more modern times the name of MARGARET THATCHER has been mentioned as someone who had great difficulty in falling asleep.

Well known writers, who were known to have suffered from insomnia were Shakespeare, Dickens, Marcel Proust, and Scott Fitzgerald.

Actors and actresses were also not immune: The names of Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe come to mind.

In spite of the discomfort, frustration, stress and tension these famous people must have suffered from insomnia, they still managed to achieve distinction in their chosen fields. They never allowed their insomnia to stand in the way of their goals.

It is interesting to note however, that so many of these famous people, forced to cope with their sleep problems, also suffered from problems of depression and anxiety.

It is very difficult to know whether these moods of depression were the result of their insomnia or whether they were due to other unrelated factors. The fact that they were able to achieve such success in spite of their difficulties deserves our admiration and respect. But it is highly likely they would have accomplished very much more had they been able to enjoy the benefits of comforting sleep every night.

The benefits to both mind and body of deep, relaxing, refreshing sleep every night are universally recognized. People are able to function physically far more effectively. They are also able to think far more clearly and work far more productively.

Adverse effects on the body of insufficient sleep.

A great deal of research has been carried out recently with regard to health problems that can result from insufficient sleep. There is strong evidence to suggest that sleep deprivation can lead to serious health problems. There appears to be greater risk of heart attacks, diabetes and gastro- intestinal problems.

There are people who sleep only a few hours a night because of the demanding nature of their work. They feel they are able to “get by” with very little sleep. In doing so they disregard the potential damage they are doing to their bodies. Insufficient sleep, researchers tell us, eventually takes its toll on one’s health. Sleep is a time for rejuvenation.

Those who sleep very little at night because they choose to do so, are far better off than insomniacs. Once they realize the damage it is causing their bodies they can make a definite decision to change their sleeping habits.

Insomniacs, on the other hand, for a variety of reasons, find it very difficult indeed to sleep. They feel they have no option but to resign themselves to the fact that they will be lucky if they are able to sleep even an hour or two at night.

But insomniacs do have an option. There are positive techniques available that can help them fall asleep more easily and enjoy the health-giving benefits of peaceful, relaxing sleep every night.

Nail Polish – Nail Fungus Treatment?

Nail polish is a cosmetic product that is one of the leading in sales. Most women, I bet 99%, will have some polish on their finger and toe nails. This may be just for the purpose of making an attractive dressing or to conceal an ugly nail that is affected by fungus.

There are various products that have been used to make polish. Most of them are however solutions and pastes made from petroleum byproducts. If you did not know, petroleum or what makes a large part of your gasoline is a fossil fuel. This means that is actually made of animal and plant materials that have been compressed in the deep earth under enormous pressure over several thousands of years. In other words, 90% of the polish is dead matter! It is large structure of carbon.

We all know it, that every medicine should have some active ingredient that is reacts against the pathogen or intruder by either destroying its cells or stopping some enzymatic processes. In evaluating polish efficiency in treatment of nail fungus, one needs to consider the active ingredient that would be effective in stopping the growth process of the fungus.

The nail fungus is actually a colony of fungus that has developed and changed the chemistry of the nail plate. It is often caused by poor hygiene which may also lead to other fungal infections such as athlete foot. Other causes include weakening of the keratin structure that provides the hard cuticle like nail structure, or poor immunity due to HIV or cancer or diabetes. In the early stages of the fungal growth, the nail plate will develop yellowish color and later progress to green or black color. The nail then disintegrates.

Therefore the effective remedy is one that will stop the activity of the nail fungus by countering the pH of the nail and the surrounding tissues and also by rejuvenating the activity of the cells.

These abilities may not be available in the nail polish. This is because it is mainly a mass of dead matter made from the carbon. It cannot be able to reverse the effects of the fungi. Instead, nail polish may make the advancement of the fungi be even greater by preventing the air flow and oxygenation. The anaerobic fungi will thrive well under the masked condition provided by the nail polish.

The only way to convert nail polish into an effective medicine for fungus treatment is by using it as medium to dissolve the essential oils with curative properties.

The use of natural products and homemade remedies is one solution to the above challenges. These often have limited side effects and can be prepared locally. This makes them safe and cheaper.

Leucatin is a concoction of natural remedies. The ingredients include Jojoba oil, tea tree oil, gingsen roots, ginger roots an, almond oil, ethanol and echinaccea purpurea tops. Each of the ingredients of leucatin is a plant product that has medicinal value.

The most important to apply the leucatin cream correctly. When applied on uncleaned wound of the fungal growth, it will only result in coating of the fungus and allow them to grow under the coat. The first thing one must therefore do before applying the cream or lotion containing the leucatin is to clean the affected nail properly. One can clean it with soap and then dry it properly. In addition, the use of vinegar to clean the wound would improve the ability to completely destroy the fungus spores.

You can make your own preparation of leucatin from the various plant sources. This can be done at home and there is not likelihood of experiencing side effects. Leucatin does not have known side effects because of the fact that most of the ingredients are natural.
