Worms in Dogs

Worms are internal parasites that live in your dog’s gastrointestinal tract. They can cause serious health problems especially to the puppies because their gastrointestinal systems are very sensitive. The most common types of dog worms are tapeworm, roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm. It is very important as a pet owner, that you know how to identify the type of worm that is attacking your pet because each worm requires different forms of treatments. Listed below are the different types of worms and how to identify them.

Tapeworm

Tapeworms are named as such because of their long, flat, and tape-like structure and rice-like appearance. These parasites affect the intestines of dogs and can easily be seen by the naked eye. They can be found in the feces of the dog, in his anus, or in his bed. Symptoms of tapeworm infestation include vomiting, weight loss, itching around the anus, nervousness, and abdominal pain. Tapeworms can be transmitted from one dog to another through the ingestion of infected soil and infected insects such as fleas.

Roundworm

Roundworms are the most common type of worms in dogs. They affect the intestines of the dogs and they are the main reason for the pot-belly appearance in most dogs and puppies. Unborn puppies can be infected with roundworms through the mother’s milk or uterus. Dogs can get infected through the ingestion of infected insects or infected soil.

Roundworms may be present in your dog’s vomit or stool. They are usually about 7 inches in length and appear like spaghetti. Roundworm infestation in dogs can cause an obstruction in the intestine and can lead to death if left untreated. Common symptoms of severe roundworm infestation include weight loss, dull coat, diarrhea, pot-belly appearance, and vomiting.

Hookworm

Hookworms are very common intestinal parasites in dogs which can cause anemia and diarrhea. They live in the small intestines of dogs and can easily be transmitted to humans through walking bare footed in infected soil. These parasites are smaller than the roundworms and cannot be seen by the naked eye. They have either cutting plates or teeth-like structures which they use to attach themselves to the intestinal walls where they suck blood for food. Dogs that are infected with hookworm will manifest weight loss, low energy level, diarrhea, pale gums, bloody stool, anemia, and in severe cases, skin irritation.

Whipworm

Whipworms are dog worms that are long, thin, and whip-shaped. They live in the colon of dogs and cannot be seen by the naked eye. They attach to the walls of the intestines where they feed themselves, causing the intestine walls to bleed. Symptoms of whipworm infection include diarrhea with blood, flatulence, weight loss, mucus in the stool, lack of energy, and anemia.

Different types of worms require different kinds of medications. So if you are in doubt with the kind of medication to give to your dog, it is best to consult first with a vet. To prevent worm infestation, it is necessary to deworm your puppies and dogs in time.

Diet For GERD Patient – What Are the Foods to Avoid GERD?

Reduce GERD Risks By Eating the Right Foods

Finding a good diet for GERD patients is crucial in order to help them avoid the pain and discomfort usually associated with this disorder. Just by making some changes to the kinds of food you eat, you can greatly reduce your risks of suffering from GERD, or even prevent the condition from occurring altogether.

GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease, is a common digestive problem resulting from the back-flow of stomach acids up into the esophageal tube. There are certain foods that can trigger this disease but there are also foods that can prevent it. In order to create an effective diet for heartburn sufferers, you will need to learn some things about these foods.

Excess Weight – One Of The Causes of GERD

The main idea behind formulating a diet for GERD patients is to make sure that everything is taken in moderation. It is also essential that all unhealthy foods are avoided at all costs. Furthermore, studies have shown that excessive weight is one of the possible causes of GERD so it is also important to eat foods that will not make you gain more weight.

Diet For GERD Sufferers

According to health experts, the ideal diet for GERD patients should include several small meals taken several times during the day instead of just three large ones. These meals should consist largely of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low fat milk. Fish and lean meat are the recommended protein sources, along with beans and poultry.

Foods To Avoid GERD

Among the foods to be avoided are those that contain a lot of sugar, fat and acid, which can all cause further harm to someone who is already suffering from GERD. Specific foods that have commonly been cited as potential GERD causes are chocolates, tomato-based products and peppermints. Also, alcoholic and carbonated beverages and drinks that contain caffeine should be excluded from the diet for GERD patients. Instead, you should drink plenty of water and fresh fruit juices to keep the body hydrated and toxin-free.

For some people, only a few minor changes need to be made to their regular diet but for others, a complete diet overhaul may be necessary. In the latter case, it might be a good idea to make the changes gradually so as to give your body ample time to adjust to your new healthier lifestyle. Once you start eating the right foods, you will notice the symptoms of GERD decreasing. Pretty soon, you will be living a GERD-free life, all thanks to good food and some determination.

Acid Reflux and Gallbladder Stones – A Connection?

One of the symptoms of a gallstones attack is very similar to acid reflux. These attacks are sudden, painful and can cause some confusion that the acid reflux attack is connected them. This is myth and misunderstood.

The symptoms of the acid reflux and gallstone attacks may lead you to believe that they are connected. To make matters worse the circumstances that these attacks begin, can also lead to the conclusion that acid reflux is caused by gallbladder stones.

Symptoms

These attacks can occur late at night and may be also come with indigestion. Other symptoms that you may have are gas and belching. Sometimes these attacks will usually happen after you have had a very fatty meal. These symptoms are very similar to an acid reflux attack but they never lasts as long the attacks.

Some gallbladder stone problems have no symptoms at all. These are known as silent stones and do not require treatment. Silent stones would seem to confirm that these problems are not connected

Treatment for gallbladder stones: Surgery

Surgery to remove the gallbladder is the most common way to treat gallstones(Asymptomatic gallstones usually do not need treatment). The surgery is called cholecystectomy.

Oral treatment of gallbladder can be done, in some cases, whereby an acid is administered in an attempt to dissolve the gallstones. This treatment is not always successful in solving the problem. Sometimes after treatment, the gallstones have a possibility of appearing again.

The other option is to have surgery that removes the gallbladder. This provides the patient with very slim chance of the gallbladder stones reoccurring. There are no real negative side effects to having your gallbladder removed.

It comes down to the similar symptoms between having acid reflux and gallbladder stones. The pains can lead you to believe that the two are connected. Always seen professional medical advice.

Acid Reflux And Alcohol – Do They Mix?

Acid reflux and alcohol do not go well together. If you are a suffered of this painful problem, also known as GERD you will know that the pain is quite debilitating and the last thing you need is a hangover AND heartburn.

I’m going to demonstrate why, if you are an acid indigestion sufferer, you should give booze a wide berth.

Why don’t they combine well?

Well, firstly, alcohol doesn’t combine well with anything at all. You’re essentially poisoning your body. But I’m not here to lecture anyone on the evils of the demon drink, as I like to drink beer and wine myself. The simple fact is though, that nearly every adverse condition you may face will be made worse with the help of booze. Got a headache? Booze will make it worse. Got the flu? Having a few beers will make those symptoms even stronger.

Secondly, alcohol, or any relaxant really has a direct effect on the amount of stomach acid that will get into your esophagus. To be specific, your lower esophageal sphincter becomes more relaxed after the consumption of alcohol meaning it is less effective at keeping that acid in its proper place. What this means is that when you drink enough to relax your muscles there’s more chance of reflux effecting you and causing that terrible pain you just wish would go away.

In addition to that bad news, there’s more. Alcohol actually increases the amount of stomach acid that is produced.

And to make it even worse, the more booze you drink, the worse it will be.

So, what’s the solution? Is there a way to limit the effects or are you stuck being forced to choose between pain and a few glasses of wine?

  • Moderation works to a degree. Only drink small amounts
  • Water your drinks down. I know that’s a terrible thing to suggest but it will certainly help
  • Drink beer and wine as opposed to spirits
  • Switch to white wine
  • Try non-alcoholic beer. There’s some good ones out there that taste virtually the same as the real deal

Of course there are only two real solutions..

  1. Stop drinking. While this may seem like sacrilege to many people there aren’t many downsides to it. Alcohol will never be good for you really. If it will hamper your social life to not drink, you might need to try solution 2
  2. Pursue acid reflux cures. Some of them work, some don’t.

If your acid reflux and alcohol combination is causing you a lot of issues, please, at least until it clears up, cut right down on the booze.

Swelling After the Workout

Most of us have probably experienced muscle swelling or soreness after a workout. Although this doesn’t happen all the time, this swelling often happens after having intense workouts. But what causes this pain in the first place?

Muscle soreness or swelling is a common consequence of hard and vigorous exercises like intense weight lifting, lengthy sessions on a stair climber, and sprinting around the track. When our muscles are working hard, they produce a substance known as lactic acid. Lactic acid can cause irritation and discomfort to the muscles, which can then lead to uncomfortable swelling. However, muscle swelling caused by lactic acid only lasts a few hours after a workout. For the kind of swelling that stays for two days or more, there’s a much different explanation.

When we try to subject our muscles to workouts far beyond their capacities, the muscles will often tear. When this happens, white blood cells, along with other fluids and nutrients, flow to the muscles to repair the damage. The sudden influx of these elements causes the swelling. These substances continuously flow through the muscles until they are fully repaired. The damage, in this case, is microscopic, and the amount of it depends on the intensity of the workout. This explains why some swelling can last for two days, and some can last for up to five.

A common misconception among some fitness enthusiasts is that muscular swelling is required for better muscle growth. However, muscles still grow and individuals do get stronger even when they don’t experience swelling. Muscular swelling does cause several uncomfortable consequences like difficulty in walking, reduced strength, and being uncomfortable for several days.

An anti-inflammatory agent may come in handy as a remedy for muscle swelling. One thing to keep in mind is that there’s a certain difference between taking an anti-inflammatory agent before and after a workout. Several studies have revealed that taking an anti-inflammatory drug (like ibuprofen) before exercise, instead of after, can prevent more swelling and soreness. In some cases, gym enthusiasts rely solely on stretching to help either prevent or reduce muscle swelling following their workouts. But careful investigation exposed that stretching provides no notable contribution to the prevention or reduction of muscle soreness.

Massages can also help in reducing swelling of the muscles. Several studies have shown that those who received massages after their work outs reported 30% less muscle swelling compared to those who didn’t receive one. There are some people who still insist in continuing their work outs even when they have muscle swelling. If you’re in this group, it is important to determine the specific part of your muscle that has swelling. You may then try making that certain muscle undergo some exercises. If the soreness does not get in the way of your work out, by all means, continue. But if the soreness worsens, it is better to take a rest, rather than overexert your body with some additional exercises, which only causes you to need more time to rest, recover, and grow.

Heart Disease – The Effects of an Unhealthy Heart

The most important muscle in your body that you cannot do without is the heart. The heart is a muscle that pumps blood around the body. It has two main objectives and that is to take the oxygen from your lungs and then pump the oxygen into your blood. The blood is then pumped around your body.

As with any muscle in the body the heart needs exercise to keep it fit and healthy. When the heart is healthy your body works and functions efficiently and effectively. With a healthy heart you will be able to carry out the daily tasks and routines of life easily and in comfort. A healthy heart will be able to cope effectively with the pressures and demands that life throws at it.

A heart that is out of condition is less effective at pumping blood round the body. This in turn makes the body less able to do daily tasks such as walking upstairs or lifting objects. The heart that is out of condition has to work harder than the healthy heart to do the daily tasks of life.

As it is a gradual process for the heart to get out of condition many people do not realise their heart is unhealthy. If you answer yes to the following questions then you are highly likely a person who has an unhealthy heart.

1.When you arrive at work do prefer to take the elevator to your office rather than climbing the stairs because you do not want your office colleagues to see you panting and sweating?

2.Even though you live only a 5 minute walk away from the shops do you still take the car and park as close to the shop as possible even if you are just buying a pint of milk?

3.Do you get more satisfaction and enjoyment by lying on the couch watching the sports channel than you do participating in sports that will not only be fun but will make you fit?

4.On a beautiful sunny day do you prefer to slump back down on the couch with a packet of crisps and a can of fizzy drink watching brain numbing TV rather than going out for a nice healthy walk?

A heart that is out of condition is the first step down a path that will lead to very serious health conditions that can result in heart disease and other conditions associated with an unhealthy heart.

Impotence – Common Causes and Relation to Heart Disease

Impotence or erectile dysfunction is a condition wherein a man cannot get an erection or cannot sustain an erection for the amount of time required to have a satisfying sexual experience. There are some men, who find it difficult to ejaculate after sex. Even such a condition is called impotence. Most men suffer from impotence, in its various forms, at some point or other in their lifetime.

Common causes of erectile dysfunction

Impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED) has a host of common causes associated with it. Whatever the causes, the condition must not be treated lightly. Modern medicine in conjunction with the ingenuity of health experts has brought forth many a treatment option that helps treat or manage erectile dysfunction. The foundation of ED rests on an insufficient blood supply to the penis. The causes can be divided into two main categories including physical causes and psychological or relationship issues.

Physical causes of ED

It’s not abnormal to face erectile problems off and on. But, if a person suffers from erectile dysfunction persistently, it’s important to find its underlying cause and to treat it. Some of the common underlying causes of erectile dysfunction include medicinal side effects, addiction to smoking, alcohol and drugs, medical conditions like atherosclerosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, spinal cord injury, low levels of testosterone, and obesity. Other conditions that also play a significant part in interfering with penile erections are treatment procedures like prostate cancer treatment, trauma to the penile region and multiple sclerosis.

Psychological causes of ED

A number of people suffer from ED as a result of anxiety or apprehensiveness pertaining to sexual performance. If the emotional balance of these men has been affected by some kind of insecurity or the other, their ability to get and maintain an erection decreases. Stress also takes its toll on penile erections.

Impotence and heart disease – Relation

Men suffering from impotence need to be wary of a potential or underlying cardiovascular problem. It’s like a red flag that the body might be waving at you. In many cases it’s seen that ED is the forerunner of angina. Impotence should be regarded as an early warning signal for heart disease or other cardiovascular diseases. Studies conducted show that the arteries of those people suffering from ED expanded with less efficiency than those not suffering from ED. The reason being clogged arteries. This is one of the possible signs of ensuing heart disease.

Fighting impotence when you suffer from diabetes

It’s estimated that a very large percentage of men suffering from diabetes are prone to suffering from ED. The question is how you fight this impotence. You could fight it at various levels:

Medications

There are various medications that could be used to fight impotence. There are many medications that have an appreciable success rate. Most doctors not only prescribe a medication but also a lifestyle change to go along with it.

Avoiding alcohol, tobacco and other addictions

Addictions are injurious to your health whether its addiction to tobacco, alcohol or drugs. The intake of tobacco constricts the blood vessels making them smaller. This makes it difficult to pump blood to the penile region. The intake of alcohol decreases the sex drive of a person. A person suffering from diabetes should control his intake of alcohol.

Managing the levels of blood sugar

One of the best treatment options for treating impotence if you are diabetic is the consumption of the right kind of food. Fruits, spinach, tomato, peppers, broccoli should form a part of your diet, if you want to control your blood sugar levels.

If you are really serious about treating your impotence, if you have diabetes; you should talk to you doctor. You shouldn’t be embarrassed about it.

Finding the Best Topical Hair Loss Treatment – What’s the Secret?

How would you like to find the best topical hair loss treatment the first time around? This article will explain what you should look for in an effective topical hair loss treatment so you can avoid all the trial-and-error that most people go through looking for the same thing.

With all the different solutions available on the market today, it’s almost IMPERATIVE that you properly educate yourself before getting a hair-loss or balding solution. This article will help you do just this.

The best thing you can do to assure you get a reliable and effective topical hair loss treatment is to make sure it’s primary ingredient is approved by the FDA.

There are a TON of different active ingredients used in these type of treatments. Save yourself the time and heartache and only take your chances on the ones approved by the big boys. They kinda know what they are talking about…

One of the best topical hair loss treatment ingredients to look for is one called Minoxidil. This substance performs a very important function, which i will try to explain in the simplest way possible.

In a nutshell, a substance called dihydrotestosterone (or DHT) is responsible for most hairloss and balding. DHT is a byproduct of testosterone in which the enzyme 5-alpha reductace helps produce. This enzyme is mainly found in your hair follicle’s oil glands.

What DHT does is bind to your hair follicles and shortens their lifespan, causing them to grow smaller and smaller until they seize to grow at all. Minoxidil actually inhibits the production of DHT.

So make no mistake about it: The key to finding the best topical hair loss treatment as possible is to look for one that contains Minoxidol, which again is approved by the FDA. It’s also worth noting that a quality topical hair loss treatment will also come with an oral supplement to go along with it.

Revealed – The Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis Symptoms and Triggers

Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, which is also often referred to as AECB is a condition where the symptoms of the ailment suddenly take a turn for the worse. Here, not only do the symptoms become more severe, but they their frequency of appearance increases as well. This is a serious condition because though bronchitis as a disease will not be fatal, but it can cause a lot of problems nevertheless. And in an acute state like AECB, the situation turns really grim. Almost anyone can become a victim of this condition and this includes children and even pregnant women.

What Happens When Someone Is Suffering From Exacerbation Of Chronic Bronchitis?

When someone is suffering from bronchitis, the bronchi in the air passage that takes air to the lungs and brings out air that is exhaled gets inflamed. There is also excess mucus growth here. As a result of this, the air passages get blocked, thus causing breathing problems for the person. In an effort to breathe easily, the person takes deep breath and this causes breathlessness, which is a symptom of the disease. In acute exacerbation, the air passage or the tracheal gets narrower and the mucus growth also increases and it becomes thicker.

Since this happens very rapidly, the person does not really have any opportunity to adapt and the situation worsens. However it needs to be mentioned here that the acuteness of the disease varies from one person to another. In other words, it is more acute than in others. But even those who do not show acute symptoms can suffer from AECB.

Here Are Some Of The Common Symptoms Of Chronic Exacerbation Bronchitis

1. Shortness of breath becoming worse

2. Coughing becomes more severe and the frequency increases too

3. More mucus is coughed up than normal

4. The chest congestion becomes worse

5. The phlegm has pus that appears greenish or yellowish

6. The person begins to feel weak

7. Feverish tendency

8. The phlegm may contain blood

What Causes The Symptoms To Worsen?

The valid question here is, what is it that makes the symptoms suddenly worsen. This is a very important question because if these factors can be identified then the person could avoid them. And this will naturally at least not worsen the bronchitis.

Here are some of the triggers of exacerbation of chronic bronchitis:

1. A bacterial or viral infection like the flu or common cold

2. Sudden acute change in weather conditions

3. Irritation to the lung from fumes, pollens, dust and smoke

Seeking Remedies For Acute Bronchitis

There are quite a few treatments available, and though most of them cannot offer a permanent remedy, but in most cases, at least the symptoms can be largely reduced or eliminated. Some of these treatments include conventional therapies such as the use of antibiotics, oxygen therapy, bronchodilators that can open up the airways to provide relief, anticholinergics, methylxanthines and corticosteroids that can reduce the inflammation and restrict the growth of mucus.

There are alternative treatments too such as homeopathic cures and holistic remedies. Some people are not too confident with conventional remedies – they thus turn to alternative cures.

How long you will suffer will depend on how acute your symptoms are, and how quickly you seek treatment. So do not delay. Get your exacerbation of chronic bronchitis treated quickly.

Anterior Hip Replacement – What is it All About?

As a Fellowship Trained Joint Replacement Surgeon, I am often asked about the latest developments in arthritis surgery. With the advent of minimally invasive techniques in orthopedic surgery there has been a renewed interest in performing hip replacement through the front (anterior) of the hip as opposed to the more traditional posterior, or backside approach.

The logic behind anterior hip replacement is to try to minimize muscle damage by separating muscles to gain access to the front of the hip as opposed to releasing and repairing the muscles to gain access to the hip joint form behind. In short, there is no perfect way to deliver implants to the hip joint. If there were, we would all be performing that approach only for hip replacement surgery. Having given you this background, these are the most frequently asked questions encountered in my office:

Is anterior hip replacement a new technique?

No. The anterior hip approach was first described by Smith-Petersen in 1917. It was used by the French surgeon, Robert Judet, in 1947 to perform an isolated femoral head replacement. This later evolved into other French surgeons performing complete hip joint replacements through an anterior exposure in the 1960’s.

If this technique has been in existence since 1960, why all the interest now?

Early surgeons found that the visualization of the hip socket was excellent through the front of the hip; however it was very difficult to insert a long straight metal stem down the femur through an anterior approach. If complications occurred during surgery it was very difficult to change or extend the anterior approach to overcome difficult surgeries and provide for better visualization. Therefore, most surgeons opted to perform hip replacement through posterior, or posterior and lateral exposures. The posterior approach has become the standard of care since that time. By using specialized instrumentation, newer generation hip implants, a custom operating table, and real time intraoperative x-ray equipment, anterior hip replacement has made a resurgence. These additions have allowed the the anterior approach to become easier and more reliable to perform than before.

What are the drawbacks to anterior hip replacement?

Performing an anterior total hip replacement requires positioning on a special operating table with the legs attached directly to the table. By manipulating the table, the leg is positioned to insert the hip stem. Since it is difficult to judge how much force is applied to the leg, fractures in the leg bones have occurred on the operating table. The implants are placed using real time x-ray equipment; if that equipment is malpositioned the implants can be misplaced leading to potential increased wear or dislocation and a painful joint.

Is it true that hips done through an anterior approach will not dislocate?

No. All hip replacements can dislocate. Historically, the incidence of dislocation from an anterior approach is less than through a posterior approach. However with a new generation of hip replacements, the use of larger femoral head replacements has reduced the incidence of hip dislocations for all approaches.

What hip approach do you recommend?

I recommend finding a surgeon who is versed in anterior, posterior, and anterolateral hip replacement. Since every hip exposure has specific pros and cons, it is the job of the surgeon to match each individual patient’s need to the specific approach. Patients and surgeons want to minimize pain and speed recovery, yet the main objective of hip replacement is to provide patients with a well done operation, with good component position, and the expectation that it will last for the next 20-30 years.

Causes of Back Pain After Using A Trampoline

Internet forums are full of questions concerning the connection between back pain and trampoline use. There are many different types of injuries that can occur from jumping on a trampoline, from pulled muscles to head trauma. The types of injury below may cause back pain.

Pulled Muscle

Back pain after trampolining may be caused by muscle strain. Jumping on a trampoline works muscles throughout the legs, pelvis and back, particularly stabilizer muscles. Stabilizer muscles work to protect the spine; they engage before you perform an activity, bracing the spine against harmful compression. Ideally, this bracing protects spinal discs and joints by keeping the spine aligned and absorbing some of the impact exerted on the body by movements like jumping up and down.

If your stabilizer muscles are weak, they will likely become strained (or “pulled”) from trampolining. Strained muscles suffer small tears that normally heal within three days. Localized inflammation causes pain, swelling and tenderness to the touch. A pulled muscle also hurts when it is used. Since the muscles of the back are used in nearly every motion, they can cause a significant amount of pain when pulled and take a little extra time to heal.

It is particularly easy to strain stabilizer muscles if you have an awkward or uncontrolled movement on a trampoline. As mentioned above, stabilizers engage before movement to protect the spine. If a movement occurs unexpectedly, your body doesn’t have time to prepare; the stabilizers will tense up suddenly in a last-second attempt to protect the spine. This sudden tensing can cause muscle strain.

Trampolining is generally viewed as a leisure activity, but it is also exercise. As such, it is important to warm up with dynamic stretches prior to jumping and to cool down with static stretches after jumping. It is a good idea to develop core strength before spending prolonged periods of time on a trampoline; stronger muscles suffer less strain.

Spinal Injury

It is also possible for a more severe injury to the spine to occur. This is mostly a concern if you fell off the trampoline, hit the side of it or already have a degenerative spinal issue.

If you fall off a trampoline, you may incur a dislocation of a spinal joint (subluxation) or a vertebral fracture. These may occur in spinal segments from the lower back to the neck, though subluxation is less common in the thoracic spine. Symptoms of subluxation are pain, tenderness and soreness surrounding the affected segment, muscles spasms, stiffness and weakness in the surrounding area, reduced spinal mobility and/or pain, weakness or numbness in the extremities. Vertebral fracture causes sudden and severe pain that is worsened by standing, walking, bending and twisting. If you or your child experiences any of these symptoms after an awkward landing or fall on the trampoline, seek examination by a medical professional.

The jarring associated with jumping on a trampoline can exacerbate preexisting disc degeneration. Discs work to absorb shock between vertebrae; when a disc is worn, bulging or herniated, it fails to cushion the bones around it. Herniated or bulging discs may compress nerves as they exit the spine, causing pain, numbness and weakness along the nerve pathway into an arm or leg. Jumping on a trampoline can cause asymptomatic disc abnormalities to become symptomatic or can make already-present symptoms worse. Though disc wear can occur in younger people, it is more of a concern for people over 30.

The above injuries are not the only concerns associated with trampolining. Statistics of severe injuries, mostly incurred by children, have spurred the American Academy of Pediatrics to call for a ban on trampolines for backyard use. For a list of statistics and other injury types, see http://physical-therapy.advanceweb.com/Article/Bouncing-Back-Treating-Trampoline-Injuries.aspx.

If you choose to assume the risks of trampolining, make sure any children using the trampoline are supervised and following basic safety guidelines provided at http://www.livestrong.com/article/134355-trampoline-safety-rules/.

Your Family Comes First? Ease the Tension Between Boss When Missing Work For Serious Family Issues

It happened to my husband, his family is first. His boss did not want him to leave work early one day to meet with our 4 year old daughter’s doctor about her injury from a fall. My husband went directly to the head guy who has children and told him that I am not coming to you as an employee but a father. He showed him the picture of our daughter in the emergency room from his phone and said I need to go, my family is first and the head guy said, o.k, do what you have to do, and off went my husband.

The next day his boss was not happy, she wrote him up for a day he missed because of the accident and leaving early. She implied, if this happens again that he would be fired. My husband refused to sign the write up on him because he believed he was in the right. He knew by signing that document he would be fired if he had another family emergency and had to leave. There was a lot of tension between him and the boss at work and it was very uncomfortable.

Ease the tension by writing an apology letter to your boss about the missed days. Remember your boss is under pressure too from their bosses about performance at work and sometimes that stress gets passed on to the employees. Don’t let your pride get the in way of saying sorry and keeping your job. Here’s an example of the same exact apology letter that was written to my husband’s boss that helped him go back to work and see his boss without all the stress:

Dear Mrs. Santos,

Friday morning June 5, 2009 at St. Augustine, my 4 year old daughter fell out of the bed. She was screaming in pain and not knowing at the time what was wrong with her, I didn’t dare move her because of the possibility of making the injury worst. I called 911 right away and they took her to the emergency room. While we were there, the nurse told us that her collar bone was broken and that she may need surgery. Later the doctor came in suggesting we see a specialist as soon as possible where we live and said she needs to be moved as little as possible for the next few days.

Due to my daughter’s accident on Friday, the swelling on her injury and the doctor advising me from the emergency room after he viewed the x-rays, not to move her for a few days, I was unable to go to work because the two in half hour drive sitting up in the car from St. Augustine for my daughter would have been too painful. I was forced to leave Sunday which according to the doctor, sitting my daughter in the car for two in a half hours was a little too soon, but I managed to make her as comfortable as possible on the way home with her medication, plenty of pillows surrounding her and stopping almost every 15 to 20 minutes to calm her down.

My intention was to be at work on Sunday, however with the unexpected accident of my daughter and the sensitivity of her injury to the car ride home, I was unable to be present that day. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused to you or the resort.

Most people can communicate better with a letter because you can take your time to find the correct words to express yourself in the right way. Sometimes face to face the words do not come out the way you wanted them too because you loose your train of thought with all the distractions and interruptions that may be occurring during your meeting. This letter cleared the air for my husband and his boss and he was able to work without any tension from the previous day when he had to leave early. With this letter and the proof he provided of our daughter’s accident the days he missed work, his boss never mentioned the write up again. Remember sometimes you need to swallow your pride and just say you are sorry to clear the air of any tension and get back to normal.

Birth Injuries – Improper Neonatal Care Can Cause Brain Damage and Cerebral Palsy

Birth injuries can result from different scenarios. It can be an unavoidable accident during childbirth, or it can also be a result of negligence on the part of the physician. Brain damage resulting to cerebral palsy is one of the most common birth injuries incurred during childbirth. Cerebral palsy is not easily detected upon birth; in fact, it can go on for months or years without being noticed. The cost of care for a child with cerebral palsy can be very expensive, considering that this condition does not improve over time. Your child has to deal with cerebral palsy for the rest of life.

You have to remember that you can totally file a lawsuit if there is any medical malpractice involved in any type of birth injury. Birth injuries can result from improper care given to the mother during pregnancy, so you can sue your doctor using those grounds. But before you file a lawsuit, you first have to find a lawyer who will help you in your case. There are many birth injury lawyers in your area, and all you have to do is research about them. Most birth injury attorneys specialize in a certain condition, so if your child is suffering from brain damage and cerebral palsy, find a lawyer who specializes in that said condition. You can ask for a free consultation to see if your needs match the lawyer’s knowledge.

After finding your attorney, you need to consult birth injury consultants. These people are physicians who can assess your case in order to know if a certain birth injury is caused by medical negligence or malpractice. Their expert testimonies will be able to make your case stronger.

Of course, once you file your lawsuit, the attorneys defending the other side will also have to investigate your medical history and your child’s. They will be saying that the birth injury was not caused by medical negligence but by a congenital defect or impaired parenting. Negotiations will start once both sides have presented evidences. If you accept what they are offering, there is no need for the case to go into trial. Most cases are settled during this stage. You will need the advice of your lawyer since he knows the appropriate settlement amounts. If you are not satisfied with the negotiations, you can take your case to the court and go into trial.

Start a Home Base Business Without Analysis Paralysis

There is a statistic that really disturbs me about the failure rate when starting a home base business – that 97% will fail. Personally, I find that totally unacceptable.

I want to ensure that you do NOT become another statistic.

What I am outlining here, is of course my personal opinion. Not all the gurus will be pleased with my suggestions. However, I believe these ideas will not only help you succeed but will ultimately help you make a very good living online.

Does the following describe where you are at right now:

– You dream of making a successful, full-time living from a home based affiliate business. This will give you financial freedom and the lifestyle choices that come with that.

– Not long after you begin to research the opportunities, you find yourself on numerous lists. You seemed to have ended up on every internet marketing guru’s list. You wonder how on earth you ended up on half of these lists. The result is that you are being bombarded by dozens, if not a 100 emails a day from these gurus.

– You log onto the internet searching for the best way to make a success of your home based business. You see new ideas daily; many are too good to pass by. You are constantly reading e-books, watching videos, listening to audios – all with the latest money making systems.

– You have probably bought a bunch information products and methods that you’ll never use. As a result you have a bunch of private label rights, scripts, software, ‘how-to’ methods and membership to all sorts of programs. Each of these promise you the ‘guaranteed’ way of being successful with a home based affiliate business. Most of these are clogging up your hard drive gathering ether dust.

What happens is that you can end up with analysis paralysis from an overload of information. You are probably not taking any action despite having attained all that knowledge.

If you believe you are taking action and the description above is not you then I sincerely hope you are succeeding beyond your wildest dreams. However, I can’t help thinking of the other 97%.

OK. What to do? Here are three basic actions you can take.

– First thing to do is to reduce the number of lists you are on. This is easy – just click the ‘unsubscribe’ section at the end of the emails. This feature is a requirement of all legitimate list holders. Forget about missing all the latest information. The internet is rapidly evolving. When you are more experienced, you’ll be better placed to take up offers that haven’t yet been conceived.

You already have enough knowledge to be successful. Just use what you know now. Stop continually reading, studying and looking for the latest ‘can’t miss’ deal. There is no way the gurus succeeded by analysing ad infinitum everything they could get their hands on. At some stage they took ACTION.

– Secondly, organise your time so that you get maximum return each day. Yes, it is a proper use of your time to read e-books, watch videos and listen to podcasts but in the end that doesn’t make you money. Essential as they are, you have to allot your time between learning and taking action that makes you money.

– Thirdly, one word. Focus. Concentrate on taking one step at a time. It doesn’t matter about the speed of your action. As long as you ARE taking action. Internet marketing (and now Network Marketing within the Renegade System) mostly follow these steps. Find a profitable niche, identify keywords, find an affiliate product or create your own, build your website, drive traffic and track your progress.

Keep in touch with your opt-in subscribers by use of an autoresponder thereby building a trusting relationship with them. Send them good content. Don’t abuse their willingness to share their email address by bombarding them with offer after offer. This is a definite ‘no-no’ when building a home based business. Be personal and sometimes just pass the time of day with them.

Building a home base affiliate marketing business is not rocket science. Follow the simple steps above at a regular pace that suits you and sooner or later you’ll get results.

To your success.

Cervical Spine MRI

Cervical pain can be caused as a result of maintaining poor body postures or due to dislocations or fractures of the neck joints. For analyzing the real reason behind the disorders, physicians may advise patients to take a cervical spine MRI. It is a procedure adopted to make an accurate assessment about the condition of the cervical spine.

A Noninvasive Procedure with Several Benefits

Cervical spine MRI is a noninvasive method used in evaluating the disorders of the cervical spine, especially for patients who are in pain. The main advantage of using MRI technique is that it can create better images of the soft tissues than conventional X-rays. This enables the doctor to distinguish the healthy and strong tissues from the ailing and weak ones. With an MRI of the spine, you can receive detailed images of the structure of the vertebrae that constitute the spine, the spaces between the vertebrae through which the nerves pass and also the disks. From these images, physicians can make a proper assessment about the disorder, its intensity and suggest potential treatment procedures.

MRI Process

The entire scanning process is carried out with the assistance of magnetic fields, radio waves and a computer. While undergoing the scanning process, the patient should not wear jewelry, hairpins, or watches as these can cause variations to the image, due to the presence of magnetic fields. In addition, those patients who have pacemakers or any other metal inserts in their bodies are not advised to undergo this procedure. It is also necessary that the patient must remain in a stable position during the scanning process, because even minute movements can cause variations in the scanning results.

After the scanning process, the patient can carry out his or her normal activities. Mild sedatives are given to those patients who have anxiety and claustrophobia, in order to make them stable throughout the imaging process. Cervical spine MRI is a painless procedure without any side effects and is also free from any harmful radiation.
