Influenza – Flu – The Simple Facts And The Cures

What is Influenza – Flu: Influenza is commonly called or known as 'the flu', it is a contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. Although the flu affects both sexes and all age groups, kids and senior citizens tend to get it the most. The illness even has its own season, which is from November to April, with most of the cases occurring between late December and early March.

What causes Influenza – Flu: The Flu is caused by the Influenza virus. Health professionals classify the virus as influenza type A and type B, each of which includes strains. These strains are different from the original virus but retain some of it's characteristics. The Influenza virus changes often, so having flu caused by one strain does not give you full immunity to other strains. This is why a different vaccine is necessary every year to help prevent infection. Influenza (Flu) is easily spread by virus-infected droplets that are taken or sneezed into the air, and by touching door handles and other items that have been handled by others who are infected, the flu is very contagious.

Symptoms for Influenza – Flu: The flu generally last a week or less, with the main course of symptoms being over in a 3 day period. The symptoms of Influenza (Flu) are Fever, chills, headache, body or muscle aches, loss of appetite, tiredness, cough, sore throat, runny nose, upset stomach, weakness, diarrhea. After 3 days, the fever and other symptoms may have disappeared, but a cough or severe weakness may continue at times for a few more days. All symptoms are usually gone within a week or two. However, it's important to treat the flu seriously, because it can lead to pneumonia or other complications, particularly in infants, senior citizens, and people with long-term health problems. I seem to get the flu every year, and every year it seems to hit me worse than the year before. I also seem to get it towards the end of Janurary or early in February of each year.

Treatment for Influenza – Flu: Once you get the flu there is not a lot you can do to get rid of it, except to wait until it has run it's course. The best thing is to stay in bed with a warm blanket and rest as much as possible. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and weakness. And you may want to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen to relieve head and body aches. You should avoid giving Aspirin to children. There are some new over the counter medicines that seem to shorten the duration and severity of the flu, that you may want to try, such as: Zicam and another Oscillococcinum, often called Oscillo. I have tried the chewable Zicam tablets myself and the product did seem to make the flu symptoms less severe.

Prevention for Influenza – Flu: The best way to prevent Influenza – Flu, is to get the Flu Shot, without your allergic to it like I am. Two years in a row I got the flu shot and both times I got very sick within 2 days, I got a very bad headache and had a severe upset stomach. You should try to avoide close contact with others that have the flu. Wash you hands and forearms often, espicaly after using public restrooms, opening doors and drinking at public water fountains. Never share cups and eating utensils and do not use other peoples tissues, touching the box is an easy way to pick up the flu bug. Stay home from work or school when you're sick with the flu and rest.

Treatment Resistant Sciatica

Treatment resistant sciatica is the most common form of lower back and leg pain syndrome. Sciatica has a well earned reputation as a chronic and stubborn symptomatic expression and is known to be extremely difficult to cure. In fact, patients who experience symptoms lasting more than 6 months have a better chance of enduring a lifetime of suffering than they do of ever really recovering 100%.

Sciatica is not a condition or diagnosis itself. It is a term reserved for a set of symptoms which generally includes pain, tingling, weakness and / or numbness in the lower back, buttocks legs and / or feet. Sciatica can be caused by a diversity of mechanical, vascular, neurological and psychosomatic sources, although the vast majority of affected patients are diagnosed with a spinal causation of one type or another.

The usual diagnosed spinal sources of sciatica may include such conditions as: degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, osteoarthritic bone spurs, foraminal stenosis, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, chemical radiculitis from a ruptured disc and extreme lumbar hyper-lordosis. The most commonly diagnosed non-spinal structural sources of sciatica include piriformis syndrome and sacroiliac joint dysfunction. While it is true that virtually all of these conditions can create sciatic nerve pain in the lower body, it is also a fact that these symptoms are rarely long lasting and will almost always respond well to appropriate treatment modalities.

If sciatica caused by a structural source is not generally a chronic concern and typically conflicts with indicated therapy, why do most patients never recover from their pain? This is an age old question which has plagued sciatica sufferers and care providers for generations. The answer to this question is becoming ever clearer, as new research points to the epidemic incidence of ischemia as the logical causation of most sciatica and general radicular pain syndromes. Ischemia is also known as oxygen deprivation back pain, and can come about due to a variety of anatomical causes often associated with poor cardiac or vascular function. However, the overwhelming major of ischemic pain syndromes are the direct result of a psychogenicly driven or psychosomatically perpetuated pain impaired enacted by the subconscious mind as a defense mechanism against repressed, suppressed and completely unconsistent expressions of anger, fear, insecurity, poor self esteem, guilt, regret and other negative and highly sensitive emotional issues.

Medical doctors do not receive comprehensive training in mind / body medicine and are taught in the well established Cartesian tradition of engineering the human body as a great and complex machine. This approach to care is poorly understood, ineffective and directly responsible for the epidemic of chronic pain which is burdening our healthcare system to the point of failure. Doctors need to wake up to the facts that the mind and body do indeed work together to create all conditions of disease and health. Doctors need to address the emotional side of chronic pain. Most of all, doctors need to stop blaming ongoing pain on coincidental and completely normal spinal scapegoats, such as disc abnormalities and spinal arthritis. The medical approach to restoring back pain is a deficiency failure and it is time for care givers to acquiesce to the idea that they are completely misguided in almost all that is accepted about common back pain and sciatica. Once this occurs, then true progress towards effective treatment can begin …

Luckily, in the meantime, there are a growing number of doctors who have embroidered the truth about chronic pain and have been rewarding it very successfully using a completely psycho-emotional approach. The treatment statistics are incredible using knowledge therapy, as opposed to the plethora of mostly punishment and wasteful medical modalities, such as spinal surgery, ongoing chiropractic manipulations, risky pharmaceutical treatment and invasive injection therapy. It is amazing how well psychological therapies work at permanently resolving physical pain, while physical treatments do little more than provide temporary placebo effects and fatten the wallets of care givers …

The Impact and Importance of Window Displays

Creative design and visual merchandising have increased beyond belief in recent times. With more and more companies using these tools to grab the buying public's attention, the window display industry is now big business. With current headlines surrounding the economy, as a nation we are being careful with our spending so it is no wonder companies are pulling out all the stops to get buyers through the doors.

There is no better way of grabbing someone's attention than at the first instance and a well dressed window display does just that. With more and more companies realizing the impact of displays, we are beginning to see more unique designs and increased efforts in this area.

So knowing that retail displays are an effective tool, where do we start and what should we be trying to achieve? In the first instance brand image should be at the forefront of our minds. As the supplier, you need to feel comfortable with the displays reflection on the company. We should not be afraid to be bold with our display statement but should feel happy with the displays message and general image. If sourcing an external designer to carry out your window displays, do not be afraid to question aspects of the design and have a fair input with your own ideas. A designer will bring great artistic flair to any project but you will bring brand knowledge and the two aspects should result in a pretty fantastic display.

OK so you have a concept you are happy with, does it work? You need to stand back and question the purpose of the display. Does it attract attention? Will people stop to look? Will it capture the imagination of potential customers? If you feel you meet all these points you are half way there. You next need to be sure that you have addressed the particular products or theme you are trying to promote. If it is a seasonal display, is this obvious enough? Do your products or product message shine through the props and gimmicks, the props are an essential part of the display but so is your business!

Props are a fundamental part of any window display. They will spark interest, catch your potential customers' attention and will form the basis of any good display. All good props work well when used in the correct context. Whether the props appear quite run of the mill or very outrageous, as long as they are in keeping with the theme the idea should be depicted. A good place to start is with things that attract and excite you. For example; food props quite often capture attention as we all have that connection with the things we like and can easily associate with. Giant sweets and candy displays for example are always a winner! The bright colors attract the eye and the temptation of all things bad for us holds our attention. They may only be props but they have a familiar place in many peoples' minds! At the other end of the scale seductive high end props can be very welcoming. Items like chandeliers, candle sticks, fake diamonds, champagne and silk fabrics can capture that part of us that likes to be spoiled and pampered.

Seasons also play a very big role in all window displays and as your products change through the seasonal year, so should your window displays. Spring and summer have seen some great nature inspired displays this year and flowers have played a big part in many large stores. Halloween is possibly one of the shooter celebrated holiday events yet it is one that is still big business. Halloween props can be either very comical or very spooky, giving you multiple display angles to attack. Christmas for retail outlets is understandably a busy time. With increased competition and high volumes of passing trade you need to ensure your display is the one that gets people off the street. There are quite literal thousands of Christmas props and themes available for you to experiment with. Do not be afraid to be different, it does not have to be about Santa and snowmen!

Whatever display idea you opt for and whatever way you go about it, remember your displays portray your brand or business, they attract custom and promote your products. Window displays are one selling device we should not be ignoring.

Is Horror Dead?

I've noticed a big shift away from traditional horror recently, in books, shorts and in subs to E2M.

What's happened to the werewolves, devils, demons, ghosts, vamps and other nasties?

Some claim that the above has been done to death. Do you think so? Can anything really be "done to death"?

I do not think so. Sure there are thousands of traditional horror in the written field these days as there were 20, 50, 100 years ago. But, the way I see it is that every book is written by 'a person' whose experiences and culture is different to others. People have not lived my life and have not had the exact same experiences as me and sure as hell do not see everything the same way I do.

There's always something that can be added, changed, twisted.

Vampires: Man gets bit, becomes vampire, bites others. Hmmm. That's an idea of an outline. It is not a story. The story is what happens before and after the mentioned incident. If it was not, Ann Rice would be working in McDonalds.

Zombies: Done to Death? Resident Evil (Biohazard), 28 days later and others.

Werewolves: Night of the Werewolf, Blood of the Wolf, American werewolf in London, American werewolf in Paris.

If the writer can think 'outside of the box', a new reason for the story involving one or the other can be found in the real life around us, and even better, our dark imagination of what if …

Zombie story: A Middle-East country drops a chemical bomb on the US, England or little ole New Zealand. Creates a world of Zombies, especially when retaliation occurs. Now we just need a few subplots and sometimes a way to clean the world. Just do not use a government experiment to create the zombies.

Werewolves: A camper is digging a toilet in the forest. While digging, something scratches him, he checks it out and sees a pointed tooth, digging further he finds the skull, a medallion and a silver bullet lying in the ribcage. Now it's up to the writer to add new elements from his / her imagination of "what if …?"

Is not nothing dead in my opinion.
Spielberg found a cool way to make a dinosaur movie.

Back Pain Products to Help My Back Pain

If you suffer lower back pain, you are not on your own. Probably nearly all adults at some point in their lives will experience this condition that interferes with their work eg there is a high incidence of lumbar pain in drivers, everyday activities, sports (eg lumbar pain in golfers) or hobbies. Lower back pain or sciatica is considered the most common cause of job-related disability and the highest contributor to absenteeism in the western world. For example, it is second to headaches as the most common neurological ailment in the United States. Generally, most occurrences of lower back pain or lumbar pain subside after a few days, although some instances may take much longer to resolve or very occasionally lead to more serious conditions.

Short-term pain (Acute) generally lasts from a few days to a few weeks, and this condition tends to be mechanical in nature, the consequence of trauma to the lower back or a condition such as arthritis. Back pain from trauma may be caused by an injury sustained through sports activity, household jobs or working in the garden.

Sometimes, sudden jarring from a minor fall, or other stress on the lower back bones and tissues could be the root cause of low lumbar pain or sciatica. Symptoms of lumbar pain may range from aching muscles to shooting or sharp stabbing pain, limited flexibility and/or range of motion, or an inability to stand straight. Sometimes, pain felt in one part of the body may stem from a disorder or injury incurred in other parts of the body. Very occasionally acute low back pain syndromes could become more serious if untreated.

Definitions of what period or duration constitutes chronic back pain vary but pain that persists for over 12 weeks would generally be described as chronic.

Often the initial cause of the back problem is not known and this condition can sometimes be progressive The good news is that the vast majority of occurrences can be treated without surgery. Back pain treatments include analgesics, to reduce inflammation, to restoring proper mobility and strength to the back, by a variety of back pain products and therapies, to strategies for the avoidance of recurrence of the injury.

Usually patients suffering lumbar pain recover fully and don’t incur continuing loss of functionality. It’s advisable to contact your GP if there is no improvement or reduction in the back pain and inflammation after 3 days There is a plethora of exercises, medication, or therapy products and gadgets available to sufferers, designed to provide either, relief, prevention or both.

Although some of these back pain products (such as Magnatherapy or aromatherapy) would be described as ‘alternative’ or pseudoscientific ie they have few empirically or scientifically proven benefits, many are developed through the application of sound medical principle and theory. It’s worthwhile asking your GP for recommendations on any therapies as well as making sure that the cause is not more serious

Back pain therapy devices PGAT devices

Inversion Tables

Inversion is a natural form of passive gravity assisted traction (PGAT) that uses the patient’s body weight in conjunction with gravity to decompress weight-bearing joints. While the patient is rotated and suspended, gravity effectively creates a traction, resulting in a customized stretch that extends the spine, from the sacroiliac to the cervical joints of the neck, increasing the space between the vertebrae, which relieves the pressure on the discs and nerve roots. By reducing this pressure there is less interference with the spinal nerves thus reducing lower lumbar pain. Inversion is considered to be an effective therapy This is typically performed on what’s called an inversion table.

The table allows you to lie on your back relaxed, in an inverted position. This position eliminates some or all gravitational compression, depending upon how far back you position your body. Inversion therapy relieves back pain, and it works even better when it’s part of a well-rounded therapy plan that addresses the specific muscle imbalances you have. But even by itself it is highly effective. A recent study done at Newcastle University found that over 70% of patients who performed inversion therapy were able to cancel their scheduled back surgeries.

CPM Mobilisers

Backlife

Backlife is designed to apply a Continuous Passive Movement (CPM) to the lower back pain sufferer in a similar way to how a healthcare professional, as part of his back pain therapy, would apply in order to help relieve pressure between the vertebrae, and therefore relieve pain in the lumbar region. In order to apply CPM the user would lie on the floor bending their knees over the upper section of the machine. As the upper section moves, it gently rotates the pelvis in a circular fashion, allowing the joints to move, whilst the joints remain relaxed. The advertised benefits of Backlife for pain relief are that it reduces the stress and pressure on the lower back, restores back mobility and improves stability. In addition it reduces lumbar pain with regular use, improves posture, and reduces muscle tension.

Back in action Mobiliser

The Back in Action Mobiliser is an extremely powerful medical grade spinal joint mobilisation system, available for home or professional use for back pain relief. It’s described as usually very effective at decreasing the symptoms of long term and chronic musculo-skeletal problems. The system applies very localised pressure to the muscles either side of the spine, simulating a practitioners ‘thumbing technique, whilst mobilising the spine, flexing and extending the spine, freeing up stubborn vertebrae. In addition to this the mobilise provides a continuous passive motion (CPM) considered to be beneficial to health and aid healing The mobilise has been used to treat conditions such as: lumbago; prolapse /slipped disc, sciatica; scoliosis, arthritic hips, sacro-iliac dysfunction, whiplash injuries; fibromyalgia and many other disabling conditions. It is also comprehensively tested and endorsed by medics, so that it is probably the most commended back pain therapy care system available. Its most significant disadvantage is that it is made in small numbers and is expensive to buy however they are available to hire.

Backstretcher

The Backstretcher, also known as the Rolastretcher provides relief with a combination of massage and stretching movements, allowing the user to move and stretch different parts of the spine by moving up and down the frame. The rollers also provide pressure (acupressure) on the back muscles either side of the spine where dysfunctional trigger points (knots) often occur. It provides back pain sufferers the opportunity to complement their therapeutic treatment with a device, which is portable, The effectiveness of this device has been confirmed by scientific study by the University of Iowa’s Spine Centre.

Flexibak

Flexibak is back support cradle that is designed to ease lower back pain problems, reduce discomfort, and promote relief, by decompression of key joints, allowing natural movement to return to the user. Flexibak, developed by 2 leading British osteopaths, is designed to encourage the lumbar and sacroiliac joints to open up, and encourage the return of natural movement as pressure on inflamed muscles is relieved.

Back cushions and wedges and Supports Cushions

Back cushions

These are custom shaped soft cushions which are tailored to the natural shape of the user’s lower back and designed to offer support whilst maintaining an ergonomic and comfortable posture whilst sat on a chair or in the car, thus providing an element of relief for low back pain.

Seat wedges

Seat wedges provide lumbar pain relief in a natural passive manner. Sitting on a seat wedge has the effect of moving forward the pelvis which has the effect of causing the users spine to adopt a more ergonomically correct upright posture. Seat wedges maybe useful for lumbar pain suffering car drivers by angling their backs into more comfortable driving positions, or in sedentary workplace situations where the back pain sufferer may be adopting a suiting position for several hours, for example call centre workers. Ideal for everybody working in a sitting position, especially PC users. A variant of the seat wedge is the coccyx wedge which incorporates a cut away section to reduce or avoid pressure on the sacrum or coccyx which could be causing lower back pain or tail bone pain.

Back Braces

These aim to constrict the affected area of low back pain low afflicted area, these strap-on body braces help reduce lower back pain and help to correct poor posture.

TENS units

TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is the application of electric current produced by a device to stimulate the nerves for therapeutic purposes. In this case we are referring to portable stimulators used to help with back pain. The unit is usually connected to the skin using two or more electrodes or semi adhesive pads. Although the first units developed in the US for testing tolerance of chronic back pain sufferers to electrical stimulation in preparation for surgically invasive implants, many patients reported deriving relief from the TENS itself. A number of companies began manufacturing TENS units after the commercial success of the Meditronic device became known TENS is regarded as a non-invasive, safe nerve stimulation intended to reduce pain, both acute and chronic. Controversy does exist over its effectiveness in treating of chronic back pain. In 2007 a feature in the Pain Journal concluded that ENS was effective for chronic musculoskeletal pain whereas the journal Neurology advised against recommending TENS for chronic lower back pain, but other neurologists in the same journal suggested that in some patients TENS is useful. TENS units available from high street retailers Baxolve offers immediate relief for lower back pain through a combination of TENS therapy and lumbar support in one easy to use convenient belt.

Heat and cold back pain products

There is little empirical evidence that the application of hot and cold compresses actually effectively relieve back pain conditions, although the use of hot and cold compresses may provide relief by helping to reduce the lower back pain, spasms, and inflammation, in turn allowing for improved mobility for some back pain sufferers. Immediately after the trauma, the sufferer would apply a cold compress (generally ice packs or refrigerant gel) to the affected area of the lower back pain, maybe after a strain, for up to about 20 minutes a few time a day, for a couple of days to help reduce tissue inflammation. After a couple of days the back pain sufferer would then apply heat to the affected area, using a variety of methods such as heat pads, heat lamps etc for short durations. This has the effect of dilating the blood vessels which increase blood flow to the affected tissues, and encouraging the healing process. It also has the effect of relaxing the muscles similar to having a warm bath after exertion. As with any back pain treatment it’s advisable to consult your GP before commencing a treatment.

Magnet therapy

Magnet therapy can be described as an alternative or pseudoscientific method of back pain treatment, using magnetic fields on the body to promote back pain relief and healing, with a perceived, though not understood positive effect on blood oxygen content. There is no scientific basis to conclude that small, static magnets can relieve pain It has its origins in Traditional Oriental Medicine (TOM) dating back some 2000 years, centered around ‘Chi’or ‘energy flows’ around the body and instrumental in health and wellbeing, with magnetic wave therapy having associations with acupuncture or and acupressure. Although it is regarded with an element of scepticism due to seemingly physical and biological implausibility, in Eastern countries, therapeutic magnets are licensed as medical devices, and it does appear to be gaining some recognition within the US medical community, with an example of affirmative research of published in the MDBR Journal of Rheumatology. The downside to this is the difficulty associated with establishing true blind testing of magnets and associated ‘placebo or Hawthorne’ effects within test groups. By all means have a look at what’s available but remain sceptical.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is often used as a method of pain relief by physios and therapists in combination with other pain treatments, such as manipulation, massage, ice treatment and interferential (electrotherapy). The ultrasound device causes millions of sound waves to penetrate deep into tissue in order to promote healing of inflamed or damaged muscles, tendons and ligaments. It’s claimed that ultrasound can reduce tissue inflammation by stimulating blood flow, promote healing by stimulating soft tissue, and assist in the absorption uf analgesics, and reduce pain. Again there is conflict over the effectiveness for lower back pain treatment with both positive user testimonials offset by inconclusive meta analysis. See Physical Therapy article Jul 2001 and New Zealand Journal of Physiotherapy Jul 2008

Ultralieve

Ultralieve Pro is a mains operated or portable hand held medical grade device designed for home use to help with pain and promote healing by conducting ultrasound waves into the damaged tissue. Although the device is easy its perhaps best if the user has received ultrasound treatment previously from a physio or healthcare professional, and again it’s advisable to check with your GP or physio before using one to derive pain relief It should not be used as a replacement for conventional help with back pain but in conjunction with it in between sessions. Again there is conflict over the effectiveness to help with back pain with both positive user testimonials offset by inconclusive meta analysis.

Reduce Cravings For Fattening Foods in 14 Seconds With a Unique Form of Weight Loss Hypnosis

One of the most difficult, and frustrating issues facing those who want to experience rapid – and lasting – weight loss is this:

CRAVINGS!

The urge to eat fattening foods… to eat lots of them… and to eat them at the “worst” times destroys most every attempt to drop pounds and keep them off. So, this is where this unique form of weight loss comes in, as explained in just a moment: You can feel the power of reducing cravings – in under 14 seconds – by experiencing a remarkable new method of “updating some old lines of code in your inner mind” – which is your feeling and weight controller.

Please let me explain:

Many different techniques are used in weight loss hypnosis CDs and during private practice, the most effective all involving changing perceptions at the “gut” – or “inner/subconscious mind” level. Because, changes in your conscious mind… willpower… and other superficial methods will always fail… and fail big time. While changes at the gut level last.

For instance, if you get a craving for a fattening food, there is most likely a picture that goes along with it your mind.

One of the easiest ways to reduce the craving is this: Close your eyes, and see the picture as you want the food.

For most of us, the picture is in color. CHANGE it to black and white. Then, shrink the picture down to 1/4 of it’s original size. Then, make the picture fuzzy… like the fuzzy hair or legs of something you find distasteful. Then, move the picture to much further away from you, and to your left. If you do this with NO INTERRUPTIONS, your cravings will diminish. CONGRATULATIONS.

There are other techniques that are far more permanent to crushing cravings forever… but this will give you a “handle” on food urges. Control over what foods you eat is one of the key variables in weight loss success… and doing it without willpower is CRITICAL. Because willpower never lasts.

Other techniques are available… consider using hypnosis and other state of the art methods to permanently put you back in control over food, your weight, and your life. Enjoy this method, and be open to exploring other weight loss hypnosis methods. Taking the road “less traveled” will often yield far better results than the “same old, same old”.

BTW: In hypnosis, you in complete control… and can actually use hypnosis as your secret weapon to gain control of stubborn weight issues… other problems… and to improve your performance in your career and most every area of your life.

GI Diet Facts

THE BASICS

The Ethos of the GI Diet is a simple one: To eat a healthy balanced diet, that is easy to follow and you never feel hungry. Great eh?

HOW IT WORKS

The system is divided into traffic light symbols.Green means you can eat as much of these foods as you want. Fill up on many vegetables, salads and some fruits. yellow you eat in moderation, but this can include some cereals, spreads and pulses, red you guessed it – these are the "no-no's"! Unrefined sugar, candy, cakes, cookies – that sort of thing.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I have had gastric band surgery. However, directly after the operation the weight loss was very slow. My consultant established, through various expensive tests, that there was a problem with the way my body absorbed carbohydrates. Basically, I had eaten too many carbs over time and my body was not able to distinguish between carbs and other foods, so everything I ate was actually rated as carb, causing an insulin problem. The consultant suggested that I try the GI diet. This, in conjunction with the surgery made me lose over 40lbs in my first 6 weeks. Even now, when I need a boost, I revert to this diet.

TREATS

So, what about treats, goodies, candy, CHOCOLATE !? Do not be alarmed! There are various low carb chocolates and cigarettes available. Some are so fundamental that they can be used as meal substitutes. Some are better than others, but it really is a question of personal taste. I particularly liked the Atkins Bars. They were very filling and handy to keep with me in case of emergencies.

The Real Truth About Caffeine & Parkinson's Disease

Once a medical study was published on the application of caffeine for treating Parkinson's disease, it stirred up a lot of controversy. I can not help but think that caffeine is a high cost, even if it does help. In my book "The Truth about Caffeine" I explain that extravagant caffeine consumption depletes the dopamine neurons. Since caffeine is known to be addictive, you may start out having a moderate amount, yet later on, the amount keeps growing. Caffeine's stimulation becomes nulified as the body adjusts to it, leaving no option except to consume more for it to work. Even still, a lot of caffeine can cause cause harm and take away life.

Known worldwide as a brain energizer, caffeine eliminates dopamine, sending strong emotions, motivation, and keen awareness. Similar to various drugs, caffeine is thought after for a fast surge of dopamine, as it stimulates our brain. As the chief neuro-transmitter, dopamine performances as a messenger for the brain, taking care of the energy levels, vigilance, acuity, ability to respond, spontaneity and similar functions. Even so, dopamine in addition, determinants stimulant addiction.

The body's growth of dopamine manufacturing brain cells is greatly diminished, as dopamine gets depleted with a massive consumption of caffeine. Then, comes a feeling of being exhausted and worn out. Then, to regain that good feeling, more caffeine is ingested. The outpouring of dopamine neurons keeps going while in this cycle.

The process of aging's taking away dopamine is significantly increased with caffeine consumption. A large reduction of dopamine neurons is termed Parkinson's disease. Caffeine can be beneficial for those who suffer from Parkinson disease because caffeine clears dopamine release. Previous to seeing any signs of this diseases, 70 to 80 percent of dopamine neurons have vanished.

Damage to your health in all sorts of areas can stem from caffeine. The adrenal glands empty as caffeine expands the production of our tension hormones. A single caffeinated drink is plenty to start the brain, pituitary gland, sending messages to the adrenal gland to let out the tension hormones adrenalin and cortisol directly into our bloodstream.

Most often, in an emergency situation, a surge of warm blood flow is felt, as our stress hormones are sent out. The stimulation delivered from caffeine is really from a stress hormone. As a effective stimulant as well as an irritant, caffeine alerts the body's defense mechanisms which send out our stress hormones. But, eventually, this defense mechanism weakens.

Relentless false adrenalin sent by caffeine deficiency, wears out the glands until they can not secure enough hormones. Looking to experience the former adrenalin jolt, a caffeine user begins to increase his caffeine consumption, placing more pressure on the glands, which can not cope with the addict 'demands. These events will not go on without consequences.

Gradually, adrenal depletion occurs for caffeine users. Negative changes happen in the correct operation of the immune, endocrine, and nervous system as daily overproduction of tension hormones, which too much are poisonous, gradually altering the blood makeup.

Thinking of Replacing Your Mattress and Beds? Consider These Tips

If you need to replace your mattress and beds, you may have already discovered just how complicated the mattress industry has become. What was once a simple choice between “blue” or “green” has now become a decision that is based on material, construction, brand, warranty and longevity.

Today, choosing a mattress is almost as complicated as purchasing a house or a car. And while the wide variety of options is supposed to help everyone get exactly what they want, you now have to ask yourself a few very important questions:

What DO you want? How much of what you want is actually beneficial for you while you sleep? How aware are you of chemicals and their dangers? What is the difference between comfort and support? What are the best materials for a mattress? How do you avoid mattress buyer’s remorse? These are just a few of the questions spinning through the heads of consumers that are searching for new beds and mattresses. This buying guide will explore the answers to these questions so that you can better decide which mattress is right for you.

Support vs. Comfort

When searching for new mattresses and beds, most consumers confuse support and comfort. Make no mistake about it; support and comfort are rather different. Comfort is what you feel when you lay on the bed. A lack of comfort can make it very difficult to fall asleep at night, which can further diminish the number of sleeping hours. A lack of comfort can also cause wakefulness at night, further depleting your hours of beneficial sleep.

Support, transversely, is what you feel in the morning. If you wake up with aches and pains, then your mattress isn’t offering the right kind of support. Moreover, a mattress that is comfortable may or may not have good support and a mattress with good support might not be comfortable. You have to find the balance between these two so that you can get the sleep you need.

The Hidden Dangers of Mattress and Beds

If you haven’t spent much time researching the chemicals that come into your home through things like paint, carpet, mattresses and more, you might be surprised to learn just how dangerous mattresses and beds can be. While all things are composed of chemical compounds, there are some chemicals that are not healthy for the human body. As a result, people experience allergies, asthma, rashes and even more long-term, life-threatening complications, like cancer, when they experience prolonged exposure to certain chemicals.

Sadly, many of these dangerous chemicals can be found in mattresses and beds. Some are worse than others. One of the biggest offenders is the foam mattress. While this isn’t true for all foam mattress models, it is true for the majority of foam mattress brands and models. Many consumers, when they first bring their foam mattress home, are surprised at the strong odor that their foam mattress gives off. This is the scent of chemicals. And while the smell does dissipate with time, the chemicals are still present for the life of the mattress.

Finding Chemical Free Mattress and Beds

Some companies go the extra lengths to provide you with a natural mattress that contains little to no harmful chemicals. This is also true for consumers that want a natural foam mattress. Search these companies out and take the time to research the company. Not all companies are honest, and some stake claims that they offer a natural mattress to consumers when, in fact, they only place organic material on top of materials that contain harmful chemicals.

When researching a company to determine if they offer natural mattresses and beds or natural foam mattress options, look for terms like “Certified Organic” and “third-party testing.” When you see third-party testing or the label certified organic, it means that the company has had their product tested by third-party organization that have nothing to win or lose in the selling of that mattress. Because of this, you can take comfort in knowing that, by purchasing beds and mattresses from this company, your exposure to harmful chemicals will be greatly reduced.

Psoriasis – What is this disease?

Psoriasis can be in the form of a mild infection, severe or chronic disease. It can show up on the surface of the skin as raised red or silvery skin or flaky skin. It can be crippling as in Psoriatic arthritis inflaming joints and as well as mail and toenail changes.

Over history it has been feared and misunderstood disease wrongly diagnosed from leprosy to dandruff. It is only in the last few decades through scientific research that inroads have been made. It is partially a genetic disease passed down through the family, and partially triggered by ill health, stress, environmental causes such as UV light, toxins etc. What happens is that the immune system breakdown creating a reaction that surfaces as the symptoms mentioned before.

There are five types of Psoriasis each with their own severity and form-

. Pustular Psoriasis

. Plaque Psoriasis

. Erythrodermic Psoriasis

. Guttate Psoriasis

. Inverse Psoriasis

Once properly diagnosed by your doctor. He will ask a number of questions to find the cause and condition how it is affecting you etc. Then before prescribing the treatment again a series of question have to be answered to evaluate the correct therapy. eg It is no good suggesting Photo therapy if the patient has to travel a long distance to receive it.

The purpose of any treatment of this disease is containment and reduction of the infection giving the patient a better quality of life. It will not be totally cured and has the habit of returning should it be triggered by any of the causes it started with. So for any sufferer of this disease you need to be educated so that you can either change your lifestyle or avoid the cause that triggered the disease in the first place.

HEPA Vs. HEGA Filters – What’s the Difference?

Many of us retreat to our homes for security and relaxation, only to find that our senses are constantly being attacked by a variety of asthma and allergy-related culprits.

The EPA has repeatedly warned the public of the dangers of poor indoor air quality, and unfortunately, even the most immaculate home can be teeming with pollutants. Virtually every home is affected by indoor particulates, and this is especially true if your home was built in the last 20 years or so, as energy-conservation efforts enacted in the 1970s required homes to be built especially air-tight. Common sources of indoor air pollutants can include dust, carpet, furnishings, household cleaning products, pets, and cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, exposure to these contaminants can result in a range of health problems such as asthma, allergies, respiratory disorders, and even cancer.

One way to combat these airborne irritants is to use a high-quality air purifier to clear the air. Air purifiers can also help remove vapors from carpets and textiles, cleaning products, and other pollution particulates that can jeopardize your health.

Studies have shown that clean air helps you sleep better and breathe easier, and looking for an air purifier may seem confusing at first. One of the most effective ways at controlling particulates is through the use of a high-efficient particulate filter, but finding the right kind of filter can even be difficult. Two popular types of air filters are HEPA and HEGA, and while these two terms may seem interchangeable, they are also quite different, as they are used to filter out different types of pollutants.

HEPA technology has been around since the 1930s and is essentially a type of filter media that allows air to pass through. This type of filter is highly efficient at particle abatement, and is 99.97% effective in capturing particles 0.3 microns or larger (including common pollutants such as dust, hair, dander, and pollen). HEPA technology was originally developed by the Atomic Energy Commission to create clean and safe environments for troops, researchers, and scientists.

Because of a HEPA filter’s ability to remove particles from the air, it is the most common method of air purification. When purchasing an air purifier with HEPA filtration, look for True HEPA filters, as these must pass independent tests and perform at a certain standard to receive the distinction of a True HEPA filter. Also, when deciding on a HEPA air purifier, pay close attention to the filter’s construction. Warm-rolled HEPA filters are best, as these are not prone to cracking, and air purifiers utilizing warm-rolled and pleated HEPA filters also increase filtration efficiency.

On the other hand, HEGA filters serve a different purpose. HEGA stands for High Efficiency Gas Absorption, and this type of filter was developed about a decade ago by the British Army as a defense against chemical warfare. HEGA filters are composed of a carbon cloth and are considered to be many times more efficient than granulated activated carbon at adsorption of gaseous pollutants, chemicals, and odors. Because of their efficiency, light weight, and easy workability, air purifiers with HEGA filters are now becoming more popular, especially in air purifiers geared towards allergy, chemical, gas, and odor control. In fact, some air purifiers even use HEGA filters in combination with HEPA filters to provide complete air purification.

Therefore, by choosing a HEPA or HEGA air purifier, you can rest assured that you will get the same purification technology used by the government and have complete and thorough filtration of particulates, gases, and VOCs.

Symptoms of the Three Stages of Dementia

People over the age of 65 are those who are most often stricken with a brain disorder known as dementia, which, contrary to popular belief, is not the same thing as Alzheimer's. There is no cure for the disease which is both progressive and degenerative. The condition can rob a person of brain functions, such as memory, cognitive functions, reasoning, and language. At more advanced stages, it can take away the individual's ability to take care of themselves or participate in everyday activities which they formerly enjoyed doing. Advanced dementia means that the person is going to need round-the-clock supervision and assistance.

Most people who develop dementia start out by showing a lot of forgetfulness. Since this is a normal part of the aging process, people tend to ignore it in the initial stages. It's only when the condition worsens that people begin to notice. Many cases of dementia have been analyzed, and it has been determined that there are three definitive stages that are pretty much a pattern in every dementia case. Although not every patient will show every symptom, the disease progresses in all patients in a similar way.

The three distinct stages of dementia are:

1. Early stage – Symptoms of this stage include forgetfulness, apathy, absent-mindedness, loss of interest in taking initiative in activities, confusion, disorientation, memory loss, personality changes, diminished judgment, sudden mood swings, and irritability. Since these same symptoms can be part of other diseases as well as aging, it's often difficult to diagnose dementia until it progresses to at least the moderate stage.

2. Moderate stage – During this stage symptoms become easier to identify in order to positively diagnose the condition. Patients show a decline in cognitive abilities, the inability to recall even recent events, failure to identify family members, confusion about where they are and the time period they are in, ability to do simple tasks for themselves, such as eating, bathing, or grooming, a higher level of irritability, anxiety, frustration, agitation, and may experience visual or auditory hallucinations.

3. Advanced stage – At this point in the progress, patients need continuous care. They no longer speak or communicate in any way. They show no response to people around them and can no longer recognize family members or everyday objects. Some of the severe symptoms that develop include random movements, incontinence, mobility issues, insomnia, significant memory loss, and the inability to perform simple daily tasks for themselves. In the advanced stage, the patient requires nursing home or assisted living care.

In a few cases, dementia may be reversible if done and treated early. For most patients, though, treatment consists of presenting the patient with activities to help the mind stay sharp, feeding them a nutritious diet, and making them as comfortable as possible.

Understanding Anxiety Disorders in Children

Stress and anxiety are not limited to only adults, but even children are equally vulnerable to various anxiety-related symptoms. While it is easy to ascertain an anxiety disorder in adults, children could be left in a limbo because of a gap in understanding symptoms and reaching out for treatment.

Unfortunately, not availing treatment options usually worsens the symptoms. Hence, it does augur well to understand the symptoms for managing children’s anxiety problems. Let’s take a look at various anxiety disorders that my affect children and their apparent signs:

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)

If a child is suffering from GAD, he or she will fret and fume a lot about a variety of issues, like grades in school, familial problems, peer relationships, performance in sports and much more. When a child is affected by GAD, he might be a little harsh on himself and always aspire for perfectionism. A need for constant approval and reassurance from others is a veritable sign of GAD in children.

Panic disorder

A child may also suffer from panic or anxiety attacks for no reason and usually it happens abruptly. They have this fear of losing control and going crazy, and once an attack takes place, there could be another one within a month.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD)

Even a child may suffer from SAD, which could jeopardize his or her school performance, attendance, ability to mingle with peers and nurture healthy relationships. The disorder is characterized by intense fear of facing public or coming in contact with others.

Separation anxiety disorder

This is a serious problem that could afflict a child. Separation anxiety can occur in children between 18 months and three years old. Though it is normal for children to experience some anxiety when a parent leaves the room, children suffering from separation disorder are greatly distracted by these feelings.

For instance, a child left behind in a daycare may cry for some time, but can get pacified after a while and settle down. But a child suffering from separation anxiety disorder is not easy to handle in such a situation. He or she may create quite a scene by howling, crying and throwing excessive tantrums. At least 4 percent children are afflicted with separation anxiety disorder.

A child may suffer extreme anxiety while away from home or parents when under an attack. Unwillingness to go to school, envisaging bad things about parents and caregivers or imagining vague things, all stem from separation anxiety disorder in a child.

Selective mutism

Sometimes a few parents are taken aback when they receive an unexpected feedback from their children’s teachers in school. A child who appears normal at home and talks incessantly is reported not to speak at all in the class or when expected. This hampers his academics and other developmental areas. In such a condition, a child simply refuses to budge or talk when expected.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

Mostly, children are afflicted by OCD around the age of 10, but even children who are two or three years old could be affected by it. They are compelled to indulge in repeated rituals to ease the intrusive thoughts within.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

It usually occurs when somebody witnesses a traumatic life-threatening event and are plagued by the devastating aftereffects. Even children can suffer from PTSD and may have intense fear and anxiety, become emotionally numb, easily irritable, or avoid people, places or activities. Not every child will develop PTSD after a traumatic event, but those who tend to suffer will fairly exhibit symptoms.

Leading a stress-free life

Whenever a child shows signs of anxiety disorder of any kind, there shouldn’t be any delay in seeking treatment, because early intervention holds the key to a permanent cure.
