How to Live 100 Years

Would you like to live to the ripe old age of 100? Most of us would or, perhaps just be happy to be able to stretch our life span by a few more years.

But despite all of today’s modern medicines, clinical diagnosis and scanning techniques, many will notch up little more than the Biblical three score and ten.

Perhaps, then, the reason that so many can’t manage to achieve a full century – like Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, George Burns and Bob Hope – is because of the lifestyles we lead. Our bodies are deprived of sunshine, our food is highly processed and we often over-indulge in food and drink and under-indulge in exercise.

But this is nothing new – the great debate about living healthily has been going on since time immemorial. One little book produced in the early 1900s entitled ‘How to Live 100 Years’ was recently discovered by qualified nutritionist Elizabeth Harfleet when she was sorting out her great aunt Lillie’s possessions.

Aunt Lillie had always carried the book about with her and made notes in it and, amazingly, she managed to live to the age of 103. One picture in the family album shows her on her hundredth birthday in front of a cake and with the local town mayor stood proudly next to her.

The book, priced one shilling (equivalent to 5p today), provided a fascinating variety of cures and remedies, some of which are still relevant today.

Of the common cold it says ‘soak the feet in hot mustard and water, as hot as can be borne. Wipe them dry and retire to bed. Drink freely of an infusion of elderflowers and peppermint.’

For those troubled by freckles the book suggests ‘a paste of mustard and lemon juice applied to the face four nights in succession and washed off in the morning. Alternatively try half a teacup of rain water and two teaspoonfuls of powdered borax and wash the skin twice a day.’

For those suffering from PMT the book states: ‘Ladies who have used the following assert they have never found anything equal to it. Grated horse radish, half a teacupful, good gin, one pint. Half to a tablespoonful three times a day.

Others remedies include:

Sciatica: The Oil of Wintergreen has proved most effective. Dose – five or six drops on sugar before each meal and before retiring at night. It has recently been discovered that Spirits of Turpentine will relieve sciatica in its worst form but should be used cautiously.

Measles : Keep the child in bed on a light diet and get one packet of saffron and half an ounce of hyssop. Infuse with one pint of boiling water, sweeten with honey or black treacle and give one dessert spoonful every two hours.

Jaundice: Fringe Tree Bark is the most effective in this complaint. After taking this a few days, a gentleman writes: ‘In a few days my appetite began to improve and my skin very rapidly cleared and in some ten days my jaundice was gone.’

Boils, bunions and carbuncles: treat with slippery elm.

Nose bleeds: This is an alarming symptom but not always dangerous. A good remedy is simply to raise the person’s arms.

Nervous headaches: Apply hot water to the temples and back of the neck.

Elizabeth Harfleet, 46, who is a qualified nutritionist and lives in Manchester, England, said: I was only a girl when great aunt Lillie was alive, although I do remember going to her hundredth birthday party.

“You have to remember that in her youth there was no National Health Service and it would have cost money to get the doctor. She was surrounded by nature so it isn’t surprising that she turned to natural cures.”

She added: “You can’t argue with the fact that she lived to 103, particularly given that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in a time when very little was known about the disease.”

Aunt Lillie did, however enjoy the occasional treat – right up to the end of her life she would ask staff at her nursing home to take up a slice of apple pie and cheese to her room at midnight. That, at least, seems to prove the theory: a little of what you fancy does you good.

Facial Paralysis and Birth Injuries

Parents who are expecting a child typically have many concerns to deal with, whether it be preparing their home for the baby or learning about how to care for a newborn infant. For many parents, giving birth to their new child is at once exciting and daunting. Unfortunately, complications with the birth or errors made by medical professionals during the birth process may result in serious injuries to the infant or mother.

A commonly reported birth injury is facial paralysis, which may be temporary or may have lasting effects on the child’s health and well-being. Facial paralysis may be caused by a high birth-weight of the infant or can occur during the birth process if pressure is placed on certain bones in the face during childbirth.

When it comes to birth injuries, the use of forceps during delivery contributes to nearly 67%-91% of all birth trauma, including facial paralysis. If a doctor chooses to use forceps during delivery, it is essential that he or she take extra precautions to make sure the baby is not harmed during delivery. During childbirth, forceps can compress the bones over certain sections of the facial canal, sometimes causing paralysis of the nerves in the face.

For many parents, childbirth can be a very difficult process, even without unexpected complications. It is all the more difficult for parents to deal with injuries to their newborn baby during the birth process. In some cases, the parents may be forced to pay for medical procedures to correct the problem, or for physical therapy or other treatments. If your child has been injured due to a medical mistake made by a doctor, nurse, or other medical professional, you may be eligible for compensation for present and future medical expenses and other damages.

It is the responsibility of medical professionals to perform their duties in a responsible manner and to be conscious of the effect their actions can have on their patient, especially when it comes to mistakes with treatment. If a newborn baby is injured during childbirth and the injury was caused by the delivering doctor, the parents of the child may be eligible to pursue legal action against the doctor or the practice.

Herniated Disc Exercises

Herniated disc is one of the most common spinal problems in the United States. Unfortunately, this medical condition can be both confusing and painful for people suffering from it. There are so many ways of dealing with a herniated or bulging disc that it is difficult to decide what is right for you. Should you choose surgery? Medication? Herniated disc exercises? What are your options for leading a healthy, active life after that?

Causes of Herniated Disc

You spinal column is one of the most complex structures in your body. Running down your back, you have a vertebral column that is made up of a long series of discs. These discs all have a covering that is tough, which keeps the soft, inner part from bulging out and pressing on the spinal cord. When you have a disc herniated, something has happened to weaken that tough, fibrous coating. This allows the soft part to push through and place pressure on the spinal cord. This painful, debilitating condition can be dealt with either through medication, surgery, or herniated disc exercises. Each of these options has a unique set of pros and cons.

Does Medication Help?

The most common treatment for a herniated and bulging disc is medication to help the patient handle the immense pain. While this is a good “Band Aid” strategy, it is not a long term solution because it does not correct the underlying problem that has caused the herniated or bulging disc to begin with. Medication is also not a long term solution because it comes with its own set of difficulties. Not only is pain medication addictive when used over a long period of time, it also is expensive and may interfere with your ability to drive, go to work, or live a normal life. This is why medication is often prescribed along with a long term solution: surgery, herniated disc exercises, or another treatment.

Is Surgery the Answer?

Most doctors think that surgery is the best way to deal with this problem, despite the fact that over half of all people who choose surgery do not see an improvement in their pain. Not only is surgery less effective than it is billed, it also can cause dangerous complications. A long recovery and yet more time missed from work is necessary. People who have back surgery also need medication and long, painful months of physical therapy doing herniated disc exercises. Surgery is a possible solution, but for many people it only makes the problem worse.

Alternative Therapies for Herniated Disc

Luckily, there are many ways of dealing with herniated or bulging disc that do not have the dangers and many drawbacks of medication or surgery. Many people have heard of chiropractic adjustment, which can align the spine so the disc no longer bulges and causes pain. This is definitely a better option than surgery or medication, but it still has drawbacks. Because it only addresses the spinal alignment issues and not the muscle imbalance causing it, most people will have to have chiropractic treatment for the rest of their lives if they don’t want their pain and symptoms to recur. Combined with herniated disc exercises, this is a solution but not a cure.

Herniated Disc Exercises

Everyone with back problems has been handed the standard sheet of back and herniated disc exercises. These are recommended by doctors and other therapists all over the world. Herniated and bulging disc exercises are definitely a better way to deal with the problem, but you need a customized solution intended for your exact muscle imbalance. In a recent article published in the Healthy Back Institute’s Journal of Back Pain Relief, muscle balance therapy offers the personal, effective, and long term solution to herniated/bulging disc. This program, known as “Lose the Back Pain”, helps people suffering from a herniated disc to determine the muscle imbalance causing their musculoskeletal issues, and then create a regimen of herniated disc exercises that will address the problem once and for all. If you are tired of living in pain, muscle balance therapy offers the ticket to a pain-free life that you have always dreamed of.

I Got A BONE To Pick With Ya!

Thankfully, due to the forward thinking of most Americans nowadays, lifting weights is not that uncommon anymore. However, some men and women do not realize how important it is to maintain bone density for their later years. Osteoporosis, a disease linked to low bone density and structural deterioration of bone, is one of the leading causes of hip fractures, wrist fractures, and spine fractures in elderly citizens. This ‘silent threat’ is a major risk factor in the lives of 44 million Americans 55 years of age or older, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation. In addition, there are 10 million people in the country that have the disease and some 30 million more are said to have low bone mass, placing them at risk for Osteoporosis. (Just when you thought you were safe to take your next step….)

Navigating away from being a candidate is not such a difficult task. The name of the game, build bone mass! How do we do that? Well, keep in mind that your bones are comprised of calcium and other vital minerals. There are several reasons why the bones must donate their calcium and other vital minerals, which could lead to decreased bone density. A few reasons may be:

1.) Practicing a diet deficient in minerals.

2.) Practicing a diet that causes a highly acidic environment or diets high in protein.

3.) People who are cola drinkers (due to the phosphoric acid).

All of these cases are great bone robbers! While dipping into the bone’s mineral stores is inevitable, chronic demand leads to osteoporosis. So, cleaning up ones’ diet is helpful and important. The next step is increasing the load!

There is no question that bone will get stronger if you stress it. However, you want to stress it in such a way that you DO NOT get hurt! Yes, walking will help somewhat as it is weight bearing. Yes, a stairclimber may help also. But, there is no substitute for putting good ol’ fashion weight in someone’s hands and ‘alarm’ the body to say, “HEY!” “Heeeeeey….I’m not used to this at all!!” Usually, when the body is ‘stressed’ in what I like to say, ‘a choreographed fashion’, the response is ‘negative’ which is usually good news to you! The body does not like stress and will adapt to its surroundings to make dealing with this stress easier. If picking up a 10lb dumbbell was difficult for you and you continued to become sore from doing it, the body would soon realize it would need to adapt to this stress and the body would no longer become sore and you would be able to pick up that 10lb dumbbell. That is until you move to the 12lb dumbbell!! And the process begins all over again. That is the magic. The body will adapt to this ‘negative stimulus’ and make it positive by increasing the body’s ability to handle the stress. And too, as a result, the BONE will get stronger as the increasing stress on the body continues. This causes the body to lay down more bone mass to deal with the increased loads on the body. Science is great ain’t it??

In summation, bone health is critical to preventing Osteoporosis and other diseases related to bone density. Bone density disorders can be simply avoided by practicing a diet that is not overwhelming in protein, rich in minerals so the body does not rob the bone of its minerals, and placing a stress on the musculo-skeletal system in a safe, yet overbearing manner that causes the body to lay down more bone mass to deal with the stress. You may also benefit from a blood workup and good advice from a nutritionist or dietitian about acid/alkalinity balance in the body and what specific dietary considerations you may need to consider. In addition, a qualified fitness instructor that can help you build that bone mass at the prevention level, not when you’re in danger of becoming osteoporotic! So don’t be a procrastinator! Get a move on it! I’ll give you 212 reasons why you should!

7 Things to Know About Backhoe Loader Parts

Functions such as digging earth, lifting and moving supplies make backhoe loaders extremely useful in construction, landscaping, paving roads, small demolitions and so on. It is a smart piece of equipment that combines three distinct pieces of construction equipment-a tractor, a loader and a backhoe. To figure out what makes backhoe loaders such a popular piece of heavy machinery, it becomes essential to understand the contribution made by its parts to collectively result in great performance and endurance.

The standard parts of this product comprise an engine, a transmission, axles, brakes and a sturdy steel frame atop which they are all assembled. Each of these is further designed to provide great performance individually with the help of high-precision, durable components which work together in absolute harmony. Let’s have a look at some facts about backhoe loader components:

• The engine is usually diesel-powered, with a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke design that could be direct-injection, turbocharged, etc.

• The transmission carries out the important function of applying the engine power to the tractor, backhoe and loader hydraulic systems. Like in a small vehicle, here too, the transmission is enabled by shifting between gears, which can result in increased speed. In a pair of gears, if one has a larger number of teeth than the other, it revolves more slowly.

• Modern backhoe loader components normally feature planetary gear systems, which offer the advantage of striking a good balance between getting a high torque transfer and compact design, thereby positively increasing performance. Such a gear system consists of a sun gear, a ring gear and several planetary gears which rotate between them.

• A gear pump is an-oft used backhoe loader part that supplies oil to the hydraulic systems. It is also called a fixed displacement pump, as it pumps a fixed amount of fluid for every revolution. The other complex kind of pump is the hydraulic variable displacement pump.

• The axles help the wheels turn in a backhoe loader. The standard rear axle in all the well-known brands of backhoe loaders is one of particular importance, because it has to be designed thus that it becomes capable of withstanding rough terrain and harsh environmental conditions.

• The rear axle shaft, manufactured of solid steel, is responsible for imparting the power to the wheels of the machinery for driving the vehicle. Splining the inner end of the rear axle shaft helps to make it fit snugly inside the rear axle differential.

• Brakes, again, are important backhoe loader components. Hydraulically actuated, self-adjusting disc brakes are used by many top brands to ensure high performance. There could also be the added benefit of a special parking brake, applied by the operator with the help of a hand lever.

Disorders of the Nervous System

The central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord, the nerves proceeding from them being known as the peripheral or cerebrospinal nerves. The nervous system is a very delicate and complicated set of nerves which spread throughout the body and control all bodily and mental functions. The slightest disturbance in the finely-balanced conglomeration of nerves produces disorders some of which are quite difficult to handle. The autonomic nervous system is situated in the neck, thorax and the abdomen and acts independently of the brain and is connected with plexuses or nerve fibers.

The spine and the brain being beyond the reach of direct examination, disorders of the nerves are very difficult to diagnose and treat. The existence of the disorders can only be found from some external symptoms of behavior.

The factors that cause nervous disorders are many: some diseases may be induced by a particular temperament or a way of life. You would notice that people with a high IQ and great intellectual power are generally born with a nervous temperament. There are somatic (bodily) factors too and heredity also plays an important part in disorders of the nerves. The stresses and strains of modern life aggravate nervous maladies. The loss of a loved one, reverses in business, an unfortunate love affair, an accident or a shocking news may trigger a nervous shock which unhinges the mind. Poisons-those produced in the body by disease or ingested accidentally or by design-also lead to many nervous disorders. Syphilis, for example, gives rise to locomotor ataxia (disordered movement of the limbs), paralysis and tumors of the brain or the spinal cord. If a person is an incurable alcoholic, he may suffer mental derangement.

Like many other diseases, nervous disorders are also categorized as (i) organic-due to disturbance in the arrangement of the nerves or injuries to them; and (ii) functional. The first category includes disorders in which there are bodily changes, e.g. paralysis; and in the second category are those disorders for which no somatic factors are responsible. Epilepsy, hysteria and neuralgia (pain of nervous origin) are functional disorders.

Nervous disorders sometimes give rise to physical discomfort and actual disease. An example is the dyspepsia of nervous origin. The digestive system may be all right, but extreme worry may hamper the functioning of digestive organs. Tension, as is well-recognized, gives rise to techycardia (palpitation) and hypertension (high blood pressure) among other diseases. The diseases of the nervous system can be broadly categorized into two main classes: (i) those in which there is a disturbance of sensation, or perverted sensation, as in insanity and delusion; and (ii) those in which a part or the whole body is paralyzed. In other words, the second category comprises diseases in which the nervous system fails to carry out its nutritional purpose and some of the limbs are starved of sustenance, and die. If the sympathetic system is diseased, the functioning of the internal organs of the body is impaired. For example, natural functions like the clearing of the bowels and the bladder are seriously impaired if the spinal nerves are affected. Diseases of the cranial nerves would disturb the sense of smell, vision, hearing, touch and others.

How To Enjoy Anal Sex

If you’re feeling like one day you woke up and suddenly it was all about anal, you’re not alone. It’s like the vagina has become the boring older sister. She was hot once but now they’re all lusting over the smaller tighter one…

So with all this attention on the rear, the question is, do women enjoy anal sex and what’s in it for you? Thankfully, the answer is yes! Many women love it and even prefer it to vaginal sex with more intense, full body orgasms. So how do you learn how to have anal sex properly and get you some of that?

Firstly it’s not for everyone but if you would like to learn how to have anal sex, understand it’s a process. If you have tried it once, maybe twice before with regrettable results, like a lot of first timers you may not have taken the full necessary measures to prepare the body. Understandably just the thought can lead to a lot of anticipation. But thinking about how to have anal sex for the first time is a lot like considering regular vaginal sex as a virgin. It’s a little scary and a little exciting. You’re expecting a bit of pain and you know it will be awkward but still you trust all the information you have ever received, you know you will eventually enjoy it. So why should anal sex be any different?

How To Enjoy Anal Sex

Start by learning to love and acknowledge your bum. If you’ve never really considered your back passage before, learning about it can be quite liberating. What wonders and mysteries does it hold? Have you have been neglecting an area of your body that is potentially capable of extraordinary sexual experiences?

A good way to begin is by experimenting on you in your own time. This is an incredibly foreign area to many people. You must become familiar with your own body first and comfortable with touching and experimenting with your anus before moving on to a partner.

Start by lubing a finger and gently rub around your anus taking time to explore. Light movements will help to heighten its many nerve endings and should feel pleasurable. Start to apply more pressure and insert your finger. At this point, you will hit your internal sphincter that might be quite a shock. Your likely reaction will be to get your fingers as far away from your bum as possible.

Learning to understand the internal sphincter is essential when learning how to have anal sex. Unlike the external sphincter that you can tighten or relax, the internal sphincter is an involuntary muscle. Its important job is to keep bodily product in that is not ready to be expelled and assist when its time to get it out.

Many people falter with anal sex when they hit the internal sphincter. Because you can’t control it, its normal reaction is to contract and tighten when a finger or something larger is poking at it from the other end. However, it can only tighten for a certain length of time before it tires and loosens on its own. With gentle persistence, usually after about a minute, the muscle will stop contracting and relax. At this point, you should be able to continue with slow pain free insertion.

Over time you will become more accustomed to how this feels. Small vibrators or a dildo are excellent tools to help you practice and gradually get you used to the sensation of larger objects. It is important to start out small than boldly try with a penis straight away. The anus has the ability to stretch, however as you progress with toys, beware. The bum really is like the black hole. The body will without mercy suck objects in like a vacuum. Ensure your toy of choice has a flat end to prevent any mishaps that would require surgical removal.

How To Have Anal Sex With A Partner

When moving on to include your partner, understandably, the ewh factor is very real and hygiene preparation is a must. Your body cannot be at its most relaxed when your mind is not at ease. Enjoy an erotic shower with your partner beforehand and start the foreplay by cleaning each others bits until they are squeaky clean.

It also goes without saying that a pre sex bowel movement is essential. When it’s not possible to go on command, over the counter enemas are a popular and effective way to ensure your peace of mind.

Now that you are clean, your body then needs to be worked to the point where you can’t wait for anal penetration to begin. As well as regular foreplay it is best to also participate in Anallingus. If you don’t feel comfortable with the idea of your partners tongue up your bum, you may need a rethink. You are preparing for a large erect penis to enter a very tight downward chute. The sensation of a loving partner tickling and teasing, licking and blowing is a very sensible way to prepare your whole body and mind for the bigger and better things to come.

Before attempting penetration you must firstly apply lubricant liberally all over his penis. Also have him insert it right up in to your anus using his fingers. Doggy style is usually perceived as the easiest way to begin, however your muscles are far more relaxed in the missionary position. As well as allowing for easier insertion, missionary position is also beneficial for beginners due to its intimate nature. You can continue to kiss, and talk to each other directly, guiding him to continue further or stop when you need a break.

When you are ready, breathe out and ‘push out’ as he begins to push in. You may feel a stretch or a pinch. Insertion is the hardest part of the process but it should never be forced. When you are ready it will be easier to build momentum once his penis gets past a certain point, usually a couple of inches past the shaft.

Continue slowly, always talking to your partner. As he moves in further you may have the feeling that you need to go to the toilet. If you have done everything to prepare beforehand, this is only a natural reflex. Your body is used to pushing objects out the other way. Stop for a moment until the urge passes.

If you are finding it painful it is important to stop and retrace your steps. Your body probably wasn’t prepared as much as it could have been. Practice and good preparation should lead to a pain free experience.

Finally, it’s unlikely you experienced an orgasm the first, or first few times you had vaginal sex and anal sex is no different. Many women report that while learning how to have anal sex it’s the sense of erotica that is different to vaginal sex, that keeps them persisting and practicing to reach the ultimate in climax.

Choose the Best Trumpet Straight Mute

Every trumpet player knows a great mute is going to make your playing sound stellar. But how do you choose the best mute for your type of playing? Let’s look at what mutes are and the types that are available. Trumpet mutes are devices which are placed inside the instrument, or are hung or clipped on to the bell in order to alter the sound. They are made from copper, brass aluminum, plastic, wood and sometimes cardboard. There are three main types of trumpet mutes, the straight mute, the cup mute and the wa-wa branded as a Harmon mute. You will want to purchase one of each especially if you are going to be playing in a band or orchestra. But we will focus on the straight mute in this article.

Many different manufacturers offer some great straight mutes, they are Bach, Denis Wick, Jo Ral, Tom Crown, Leblanc Vacchiano and Yamaha. It is very important to try them and listen carefully to the sometimes subtle and other times very different sound which each one produces. Since the straight mute generally makes the trumpet sound more metallic and or nasally, especially when playing loud, you will want to find a quiet room in order to carefully listen for the differences. Each will have unique blowing resistance and tone color. If the ensemble you perform in prefers a specific manufacturer, then it’s best to go with that one. It might be a good idea to ask your trumpet teacher or band leader for their preference. Since mutes make distinct sounds, as a section all of the trumpets should be playing on the same brand for the ideal sound quality.

If I may make a few recommendations of straight mutes which I have played on for many years. The Jo Ral company offers a great straight mute. The 1C is made of spun aluminum and has a copper bottom. They also offer brass bottoms for a slightly warmer and darker sound. Both will give you excellent tonal quality resulting in a near-perfect intonation. But let me interject a word about intonation. Any mute usually will make the trumpet go sharp. You must adjust by pulling out the tuning slide enough to make yourself play in tune while using a mute. With that said Jo Ral offers many styles of straight mutes and a complete line of other types of mutes, all of which can make your trumpet playing and that of your section sound professional.

My second recommendation is the Denis Wick straight mute. Using high purity spun aluminum Scotchbrite finish for a silver brilliant look. This mute offers a bright sound and excellent intonation and projection. The Denis Wick company offers a complete line of straight mutes with variations on the shape with bottoms available in aluminum, copper, or brass designs. They also offer every type of mute for the trumpet.

I know investing in a high quality trumpet is important to sound good and help you play in tune. The same goes for a straight mute or any mute for that matter. Because you cannot perform well on a poor quality trumpet or mute. No one is going to the rehearsal having just ripped out the upstairs plumbing to save a few bucks and now will try to perform the Hummel Concerto. Although I bet Malcolm McNab could probably do it. What sounds good to you may sound awful to someone else. So make an informed decision and don’t be cheep. It is true that you get what you pay for. Challenge your ears to what sounds best. Listen to professional recordings of the top trumpeters in the world and train your ears to that sound. Try imitating that sound and settle for nothing less. You won’t go wrong doing that. When it comes to music, if you haven’t noticed yet, everyone is an authority, so they have told me. You decide what you like and let others make their choice.

Available Autism Behavior Interventions

Given the lack of interventions that can deliver cure for patients of autism, they are limited to therapies that can improve the quality of their lives. The main goal of an autism behavior therapy is, in general, tri-fold – to lessen the impairments and distress associated with the symptoms, improve the lives of the patients, and allow them to become more capable of functioning independently. Although there are a lot of contradictions in the efficacy of various therapies, evidence still suggests that conducting interventions is more preferable and relatively more effective at achieving the aforementioned goals than not doing anything at all. There are a number of therapies currently in use today; some of them are briefly discussed below:

Educational interventions

Educational interventions are not exclusively focused in helping patients of autism acquire the necessary skills to understand academic subjects as well as ready them to traditional school settings. Instead, these interventions give more weight to helping patients develop skills that can make them more functional in most types of situations, cognitive skills to help them exercise mental functions, social skills to help them build social relationships and respond better to social stimuli, communication skills to develop their capacity to interact with others and to use acceptable means of expressing their ideas and feelings, to try to reduce their unwanted behaviors, along with others.

There are many educational interventions that can demonstrate varying degrees of efficacy. Applied Behavior Analysis includes all other methods used in behavioral analysis. These basically objectively measure the observed behavior of autistic children based on their responses to stimuli and the effects of rewards on their behaviors. In general, this group of techniques has demonstrated results in controlled environments, but it is not known whether these results will hold in actual settings.

Structured teaching, short for TEACCH or Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children, uses highly structured methods and environments to treat patients of autism.

Communication interventions or speech therapy, on the other hand, tries to resolve the patients’ inability to express themselves more effectively. One striking symptom of autism is speech impairment. This therapy attempts to help diminish, if not correct, speech development-related problems.

Other educational interventions that are widely used nowadays are patterning, pivotal response therapy, therapies that focus on Sensory Integration Dysfunction, music therapy, animal-assisted therapy, a home-based program called Son-Rise, neurofeedback, aversion or electric shock therapy, and others.

Parent-mediated interventions

This group of autism behavior therapies concern parents more than their autistic children. These commonly provide practical advises to make them more capable of handling their children’s condition.

Medical management

Medical management is a body of interventions that involves the use of supplements, drugs, and changes in diet to alter factors that are known to stimulate the onset of the symptoms. Other medical management methods include chelation therapy, craniosacral therapy, chiropatic, electroconvulsive therapy, stem cell therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and prosthetics. To know which autism behavior therapy can help a patient best, it is advisable to seek medical advice.

Why Do Men Have Fear of Approaching Women? How to Kill Approach Anxiety

We can’t deny the fact that approaching a girl really gives us the creeps – especially when it’s our first time. Of course, if we’re really going to think about it, we’re not scared of girls really – it’s being scared of ourselves. There are a million things swimming inside our heads as we attempt to come over that pretty girl we’ve been daydreaming about for a couple of weeks now. What if she doesn’t like me? What if she says no flat out to my face? What if she actually flees away? The “what ifs” in your mind is probably driving you insane. But why? Why the need to get all stressed pressured? Girls don’t bite, believe me. To enlighten you up, here are a few reasons why men have fear of approaching women – and what you can do about it:

  • Messing up. Being pessimistic will never get you anywhere. Feeling a little nervous and anxious and scared can be normal but too much of it will definitely lead you to screw things up. Relax. Take a few deep breaths before coming right up to her. When you think your heartbeat had started to normalize, just go over there and say hi. She won’t flee, I promise you. As long as you keep your cool.
  • Not cool enough. Most guys still suffer from a lot of insecurity issues within themselves. You think you’re too fat, or too ugly, or not just man enough for her. A little confidence will do you some good. Build one now. Nothing will happen with your life if you remain thinking that you’re stuck up. Girls will never find you attractive if you do.
  • Stammering. It’s true that sometime, when plagued with that overexcitement, we can’t help but stammer – and no matter how hard you try, things wouldn’t straighten up. We want to say something that will impress her but totally say something else. How totally disturbing is that? Solution? Don’t think too much. Be yourself!

A Few Advice to Someone Who Stutters on Stuttering Therapies

Over the years, I have attended many support groups for stutterers, and I even helped to run some of them. One thing that I have noticed about the stutterers was that after trying a few stuttering therapies to correct the problem without success, they eventually lose hope of ever speaking more fluently. After a while, some of them do not want to try to do anything to correct this disorder. There is one thing that is much worse than failing. It is not doing anything at all!

If you have spent money on some of those stuttering therapies that have failed, you have done yourself a favor. At least, you presently know what does not work for you. You are ahead of someone who does not try anything at all. Based on all those failures, you may make one distinction or two in the future that may put you on the right path to speech improvement. From my own experiences, I will tell you that I never regret spending thousands of dollars on different doctors and programs. Without spending money on different things in order to correct this disorder, I would have never found alternative medicine tools that do work.

Please try different stuttering therapies and programs. Do spend money on them! Every dollar that is spent on speech improvement is worth it even if you fail! This is the only way to find out what works and what does not. Asking people around may not always be a good idea. What works for one person may not work for another. It does not really matter if you spend money on this program or on something else. PLEASE DO SOMETHING THOUGH TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM NOW! You need to ask yourself one question. WHAT WILL IT COST ME IF I DO NOT CORRECT MY PROBLEM NOW? Well, if you do not know the answer to this question right away, I got a full answer for you.

1) LOSS OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES- Please open your local newspaper and look at the job classified section. You will see that more than 80% of the job openings in your town require you to have great communication skills. What is even worse is that many employers who offer only low-paying jobs are asking you to have some oral skills presently. How are you going to get that job? Unfortunately, we live in a very competitive environment where good jobs are scarce. We would have to compete for those jobs with fluent speakers who are just as qualified as you are for them. Who do you think is going to come out as a winner and be hired? A fluent speaker is likely to be hired even if you are more qualified than he or she is for a job. Stutterers face job discrimination every day. There are many scientific studies that indicate it. I decided to post only a small number of studies here.

Opp, K.L., Hayden, P.A., & Cottrell, G.T., in Stuttering and Employment: A survey report, Annual Convention of the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association, Boston, MA (1997) have done a large number of surveys among people who stutter. The results were astonishing. By the way, the severity of stuttering did not seem to matter.

These surveys reported that people who stutter have high rates of unemployment, discrimination in attaining employment, and the lack of promotions because of the fact that they stutter.

Perhaps, the most alarming studies were scientific studies that were done in 1983. According to all subsequent scientific studies, it is doubtful that things have changed for the better today.

Hurst, M.I. & Cooper, E.B., Employer attitudes toward stuttering, Journal of Fluency Disorders, B, 1-12 (1983) surveyed a large number of employers. Amazingly, 85% of all employers who answered those surveys stated that stuttering decreases a person’s employability and opportunities to be promoted on a job.

Hurst, M.I. & Cooper, E.B., were so intrigued by these findings that they conducted another scientific study. The results can be found in Vocational rehabilitation counselors’ attitudes toward stuttering, Journal of Fluency Disorders, 8, 13-27 (1983). Vocational rehabilitation counselors who participated in this study all agreed that stuttering was vocationally handicapping.

2) LOSS OF EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES- If you are still going to college, you may do your best to avoid speaking in class. Although it is not always possible, you may try dropping or switching classes in order to avoid making speech presentations in the front of your class. However, if you decide to continue with your education and go on to a graduate, business, law, or medical school, you would not be able to avoid speaking in class. Why not? Your grade in that class will be based on making speech presentations or just answering questions correctly when you are being called on. How are you going to handle all of this speaking out when the majority of people who stutter cannot even handle speaking one on one?

3) POOR SOCIAL LIFE- Your dating opportunities may be very limited because of your stuttering. You want to ask a person of your dreams out. However, you are afraid that when you come up to that person, you will make a fool of yourself when nothing will come out of your mouth or when you will be blocking severely on every single word. Then, you simply do not try anything at all and allow that person to slip away. Eventually, you will find yourself without a partner that you always wanted to have in your life, and you will be in pain. Moreover, you cannot even take advantage of some of that fun stuff out there that your fluent friends are taking advantage of. You do not join political associations, sporting events, or social clubs because they may require you to do the speaking out.

4) LACK OF MATERIAL THINGS- We live in a very financially driven society. Yet, many of us do not feel comfortable talking about having more money or things. Let’s face it. You have been put on this planet for a limited period of time, and you need to make your life the best possible experience it can be. This includes having material things that you enjoy. Unfortunately, many of us do not have even a basic comfort in life. Because of our stuttering, we may not be able to get well-paying jobs that will allow us to have a lifestyle that we truly deserve. As we get older, our dreams of having things that we always wanted to have simply die out. Life becomes one miserable experience indeed.

5) EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE- On the top, you will have to go through life always being afraid of speaking to others. You will have panic attacks that will never end, anxiety that will never stop torturing you, nervous break downs after having to go through constant and never-ending stress that is associated with speaking out, feelings of helplessness because you do not know what to do to make things better, feelings of hopelessness because you do not think that things can get better, and depression because things always stay the same way they have been before. All these emotions and feelings will cause you to have a very unhappy life that you may never be able to enjoy.

Of course, there are many more reasons to do something about your stuttering RIGHT NOW, which I did not even mention above. PLEASE DO NOT LET TOO MUCH TIME PASS YOU BY WITHOUT CORRECTING YOUR SPEECH! The time that you waste on stuttering will be a regretful one. There are so many opportunities to take advantage of, so many things to experience, and so many things to enjoy when you are speaking fluently. LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ENJOYABLE JOURNEY AND NOT A PAINFUL ONE. If you do not know what to do, let me help you figure this out.

If you tried several stuttering therapies without success, there are only two ways left to deal with this problem. I know that this may not be something that you are ready or you want to hear at this point of your life. The first way can be using a combination of different conventional medicines to deal with this problem. This is a very expensive way to deal with stuttering. Once again, this knowledge is coming from my own experiences in dealing with different medical doctors and their medicines. Using this way to correct stuttering will cost you a lot financially, and it will cost you even more when it comes to your health. All conventional medicines have long term side effects that are very serious. Even short term side effects may well be unbearable for the majority of people who try medications. The second and the last way to deal effectively with this problem is to use different alternative medicine tools in combination to try to address every symptom of stuttering. This is indeed a better way to approach this disorder. It is certainly cheaper to use alternative medicine tools than it is to use conventional medicines, and there are virtually no side effects.

Instead of trying stuttering therapies, try alternative medicine therapies first! I know you will find out they will change your life.

Female Hormones

Functions of Female Hormones

A woman’s body produces two prominent hormones: estrogen and progesterone. Both hormones are produced in the ovaries and play important roles in a woman’s reproductive system.

Estrogen is the hormone responsible for the healthy development of certain female sexual characteristics such as the breasts, the vagina, the menstrual cycle, body shape, and hair growth under the arms and around the pubic region. It also regulates the release of ovarian eggs and works with progesterone to stop the ovulation cycle during pregnancy. Particularly for women, this hormone is necessary in the proper development of the bone and the metabolic processes.

Progesterone, on the other hand is the other hormone that regulates menstruation. It supports pregnancy and tempers the highly stimulatory effects of estrogen. Progesterone also helps in the development of the embryo produced by the ovaries by providing a source of corticosteroids.

Progesterone improves bone density and has beneficial influence on the cardiovascular system and cholesterol. Progesterone also increases metabolic rate. It has anti-inflammatory actions and regulates the body’s immune response.

These two hormones, along with testosterone and DHEA work together to provide great health for women. Along with the unisex follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), all of these hormones have specific functions in a normal female reproductive system.

Testosterone and DHEA

Another hormone produced by the ovaries is testosterone. Although not considered a female hormone, the female body manufactures this hormone in small amounts to work with both progesterone and estrogen in regulating the female reproductive system.

Normally, testosterone is hormone associated with males. It is actually considered the most potent among the male hormones. In the female body, however, this hormone plays a major role in reproduction. For one it is the steroid hormone that influences a woman’s sex drive. Testosterone levels in women are at their highest when the woman reaches the age of 20. This is also considered the best biological age for a woman to get pregnant since women in this age group have the best chance of a healthy pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

Another male hormone produced in females is DHEA. DHEA is often referred to as the “mother hormone” since it is a precursor to the other steroid hormones. DHEA is secreted mostly by the adrenal glands. It improves the body’s metabolism and promotes weight loss. When DHEA is synthesized in the brain, it helps improve memory and provides relief for depression.

DHEA also increases energy levels. It plays an important role in maintaining the body’s immune functions. People with inflammatory and auto-immune disorders usually have lower levels of DHEA than healthy individuals. It decreases the risk for cardiovascular disease and improves cholesterol levels.

In modern hormone replacement therapy, DHEA is one of the most valuable hormones. Since DHEA is metabolized into other hormones, supplementation with DHEA allows the body to choose which hormone is needed, be it either of the two female hormones or testosterone. This accounts for the astonishing range of benefits that many researchers attribute to this hormone. The use of DHEA hormone alone, in hormone replacement can cure any hormonal imbalance of the body.

Drugs Are Bad

You may have heard a certain cartoon character repeat endlessly, “Drugs are bad,” but what exactly are the reasons for such a statement? Why is there such a social stigma attached to using drugs, and why do people use them in the first place?

People use drugs recreationally, meaning that they do it for fun. Often it is because using a drug is more pleasurable then their real life activities, which can sometimes be boring. Unless you are extremely rich or extremely enlightened, real life is boring. Full of the same tasks over and over again, mundane to the extreme. Why not spice it up a bit? That surely makes sense. Unfortunately, while this sort of drug use can start off as a rather innocent attempt to get more excitement in life, tolerance both emotionally and physically can quickly set in, leaving the user with a dependence – a serious problem.

The other reason people use drugs is for escapism. They may not do it for fun; rather, it is seen as a way to escape the pain of their lives. Sometimes a person can be so down and out that it seems impossible that they will ever come back to live a happy life, so they drown their sorrows in drugs. Heroin, in particular, can often make it seem as if life is a dream, an alternate reality where things are not so bad. Yet it is the most dangerous recreational drug on the planet.

The stigma of being addicted to drugs stems from a lack of control; whether you started using it for fun, or whether you started using it to self-medicate, once you are addicted you have no control over your life. It is true that if people had the choice, they would choose a happy, exciting life over a miserable existence of drug addiction, but addicts just can’t see that as a possibility for them. The negativity takes over and they are seen by themselves and by the entire outside world, as a person who has lost at life. However, instead of stigmatizing such people, it is surely our duty to help them and not make their situation worse for them.

Drugs are bad, true, but just as bad is stigmatizing people who are addicted to them. Perhaps some people are beyond help, but there is always a significant proportion who would accept help if it were offered in the most genuine spirit. Many drug addicts don’t have anyone to lean on and that can make it difficult to get the motivation every day to stay away from their chemical security blanket.

Importance Of Medicine In Our Daily Lives

Medicine is considered as one of the most important necessity to all of us. It is derived from the Latin words ars medicina meaning “the art of healing”. It is a branch of the health sciences and is the sector of public life concerned with maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, treatment and possible prevention of disease, injury and other damage to a body or mind.

It is both an area of knowledge, a science of body system and their diseases and treatment. This branch of science encompasses treatment by drugs, diet, exercise and other nonsurgical means. It is also used to maintain our health. An agent such as drug is used to treat disease or injury. There are different types of medicine, we have herbal medicine, which came from different kinds of plants, medicines treat in hospital and etc. Herbal medicine, also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine, refers to use of any plant’s seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes. Long practiced outside of conventional medicine, herbalism is becoming more mainstreams as up-to-date analysis and research show their value in the treatment and prevention of disease. Some of us believe in herbal medicines, for it is pure came from plants and no other ingredients. Herbal medicine also uses for cough, fever, toothache and some other diseases that might catch from our environment. Herbalists treat many conditions such as asthma, eczema, premenstrual syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine, menopausal symptoms, chronic fatigue, and an irritable bowel syndrome among others. Plants had been used for medicinal purposes long before recorded history. For most herbs, the specific ingredient that causes a therapeutic effect is not known. Whole herbs contain many ingredients and it is likely that they work together to produce the desired medicinal effect

Some medicines may cause problems if you take them with other medicines. This is why it is important to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking. And some medicines can cause problems, even if you take them correctly. Call your doctor or pharmacist if you think your medicine is making you feel worse. We take medicine to make us feel better when we are sick.
