Alopecia Areata

Alopecia is the name of a condition that causes hair loss. The most common form is known as Alopecia Areata and people suffering from this condition often become anxious and self-conscious about their appearance.

Alopecia Symptoms

Early symptoms are small, bald patches which are most usually round and about the size of a large coin, commonly on the scalp and beard but can appear on any hair-bearing part of the body. In some cases, the nails can become pitted or ridged.

What are the causes of Alopecia?

Alopecia is usually referred to as an auto-immune disease, but a better description might be ‘A condition that is symptomatic of an underlying emotional cause’.

The function of the immune system is to generate white blood cells and antibodies to attack germs, bacteria and viruses. Sometimes it becomes as if the immune system becomes confused (faulty wiring), and it can then mistakenly attack healthy tissue in the body.

Viruses, infection, medicines or other environmental factors canal be possible triggers. Unfortunately, underlying emotional causes are not always explored and addressed. It appears that many people who suffer hair loss will have been under moderate to severe stress in the previous 1-2 years. For example: job loss, bereavement, divorce or relationship problems, financial difficulties, or accident trauma.

For some people, Hypnotherapy can be very helpful in identifying the emotional cause and neutralising the resulting negative effects, thereby allowing the immune system to re-programme itself and revert to doing what it was designed to do, and normally does brilliantly.

Who is affected by Alopecia?

Alopecia can occur at any age but most often in teenagers and children, male or female, prior to the age of 20.

It is thought that around 2 in 100 people will be affected at some point in their life.

Hair re-growth

Hair will re-grow within a year, without treatment, in about 50% of cases. In more severe cases, the condition can progress to Alopecia Totalis (complete baldness) or even Universalis (complete loss of scalp and body hair).

Alopecia is an unpredictable condition. Hair re-growth may be complete, partial, or non-existent. Even if the hair grows back fully after one episode, it is possible there will be further recurrences in the future.

Conventional treatment

Where there is severe hair loss, typical conventional treatment will include steroid creams or injections and oral corticosteroids. All of these drugs can have averse side-effects, and success is not guaranteed, so should be avoided whenever possible.

The psychological effects of Alopecia

Embarrassment caused by visible hair loss can lead to the sufferer becoming anxious, low in confidence and even depressed. They will often avoid public or social situations to the point where they become increasingly isolated.

Making a plan of action

Firstly, make an appointment with your GP for a diagnosis. Ask about treatment, side effects and consequences before making any decisions.

If you can believe there is an emotional component or cause to the condition, then you may consider seeking the help of an experienced, qualified Hypnotherapist who will help you identify and neutralise the cause, whilst at the same time coaching you in powerful visualisation techniques to promote healthy new hair growth.

Are Hair Loss Medications Safer Than Natural Supplements

If you’re anything like a lot of men with thinning  hair , then it probably feels like you’ve tried every  hair   loss  medication in the world. If you’re still looking, it’s most likely because nothing you’ve tried so far has actually worked. Sometimes, these medication causes side effects that are too problematic to ignore; other times, there is no noticeable benefit in taking a particular medication, and you end up throwing it out. Frustrating, isn’t it? One of the biggest problems with a lot of products today is that they’re geared for use by both men and women – and a man, your problem is probably androgenic alopecia.

Natural Treatments And Androgenic Alopecia

You’re most likely more familiar with the common term for androgenic alopecia – male pattern baldness. This is the most common culprit behind  hair   loss  in men, by far. Yet so many kinds of medication completely disregard the science behind what causes male pattern baldness, hoping to cash in on and appeal to as many customers as possible. Today’s natural products are the few kinds of medication available that are specifically designed to deal with the underlying causes of male pattern baldness.

Nip Thinning Hair In The Bud

DHT Blockers are an exciting type  hair   loss  medication that work in two very distinct ways. Their oral supplements work to block the hormone known as DHT – or dihydrotestosterone – preventing it from being produced in the first place. Some DHT Blockers also contain a topical serum to gently massage into the scalp to help create a fertile environment for fresh, new hair to regrow. Men who have tried virtually every medication under the sun swear by DHT Blockers because they actually work – and keep on working. Since they are all natural, they can be safely used every single day.

Ditch That Ineffective  Hair   Loss  Medication

Quit wasting your money on those medications that don’t do a thing to improve your situation. Invest in a natural product that actually works. Natural  hair   loss  products work with a man’s body to combat  hair   loss  safely and naturally. A proven  hair   loss  product that may be able to help is Procerin. My Dog Has an Itchy and Smelly Ear! Help!

If your dog has a smelly ear it’s usually accompanied by a tickly inflammation that makes him scratch it, shake his head and perhaps hold his head to one side. Read on for free vet advice on how to give the necessary pet care whilst avoiding unnecessary vet fees.

What causes it?

Well, most of it is down to us. It’s our fault because of the way we took the basic wolf-type dog and then, through breeding, started to tweak things – adding a bit here, taking a bit off there, shortening this, lengthening that.

Just think of the wolf – erect ears actively moving around to pick up sounds, no loose skin folds, an outdoor life with fresh air circulating around and through a medium-length springy coat, and grooming other pack members ensuring body areas inaccessible to individuals are kept clean. Now think of many of our modern breeds leading a modern life – heavy folded-down ears, long hair, skin folds, a mostly sedentary life in a warm house usually with no other dogs. With all this going on, our dogs’ ears are a wonderful site for all sorts of things to set up camp – bacteria, yeasts and parasites being top of the list. And once they’ve found a home they start causing irritation which causes more ear wax to be produced which makes it party time for still more bacteria, yeasts and parasites.

Anatomically, dogs’ ears (like ours) are divided into three distinct parts: the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. Given that problems tend to come from the outside, not surprisingly it’s the outer ear (which extends in as far as the ear-drum) which is most often affected. Usually the ear drum stays intact and the bugs and mess is kept on the outside – this is fortunate because it allows effective treatment from the outside too.

Occasionally infection becomes established in the middle ear where the mechanical components responsible for transmitting sound to the inner ear reside. This usually happens because the ear drum has ruptured but it can also happen in the absence of an outer ear problem – if infection travels in the blood stream or up the Eustachian tube which links the middle ear to the throat. Infection here tends to cause more pain than irritation and also interferes more with hearing. Infections of the inner ear, which is where the balance organs and the cochlea (which converts sound waves into nerve impulses) reside, are fortunately quite rare. It’s fortunate because damage here can be permanent and disabling, and because problems such as infection here are too close to the brain for comfort.

Having said most problems are basically our fault, for breeding all shapes and sizes of dogs, nature is also partly to blame – but for excusable reasons. For ears to work well sounds are best gathered from high up – so each ear flap (the ‘pinna’) is located to draw down sound from the top off the head, channelling sound down to the middle ear within the skull. This ‘channel’ is a vertical tube which turns to become horizontal before ending in the ear drum. Vertical tubes open at the top and closed at the bottom aren’t the cleverest of shapes for allowing wax, dirt and any foreign bodies to easily escape. In this respect dogs’ ears are quite unlike ours – we have only short horizontal tubes between pinna and ear drum so we don’t have the same difficulties with dirt and wax building up.

Coming back to inflammation in the outer ear, ‘  otitis  externa’ as it’s called, it’s clear that ventilation, or lack of it, and poor natural drainage is a big problem for many dogs. This becomes even more of a problem once inflammation gets hold because it causes the skin lining the ear canal to swell, and also to produce more wax and that in turn cuts down ventilation still further. Repeated bouts of  otitis  externa keep adding to the problem by causing chronic skin thickening. All this goes to emphasise the need to act quickly to try to clear up infection fast.

The parasites sometimes associated with ear infections are ear mites. These are only just visible to the naked eye and can sometimes be seen moving around on the waxy discharge removed from affected ears.

An occasional cause of ear problems is grass awns becoming stuck in the ear after a dog goes for a walk snuffling through long grass or undergrowth. These awns are shaped in such a way that they can easily go down the ear canal but won’t come back out unless physically removed – this is a job for your vet as it involves introducing forceps deep into the ear canal.

What can I do to help?

Your role is to keep on top of things for the future – for now, and for the immediate needs of your dog, you need to see your vet if there’s smell, inflammation and itching. Once your vet has given the prescription medicines necessary to sort out the probable  otitis  externa, and you’ve applied them effectively, the best thing you can do to prevent recurrence is to keep your dog’s ear clear of wax and dirt. You can get many effective ear cleaners for dogs without the need for a vet’s prescription.

When should I call my vet?

Ear problems need to be dealt with correctly to give the best chance for a quick and effective cure. Your vet will examine your dog’s ears with an auriscope to help arrive at a good diagnosis and decide upon treatment. You should take your dog to see your vet for any new ear problem that emerges, but once the immediate problem has been solved, and having discussed it with your vet, you may be able to deal with any mild recurrences yourself, and you’ll certainly be able to contribute to your pet’s wellbeing by keeping his ears clean with wax-dissolving ear cleaners available without prescription.

Ears cause dogs more problems than ours cause us, so make sure you help your pet deal with this by adopting a routine of keeping them healthy – remember the wolf’s grooming of its pack mates, keeping clean those things like ears that an individual can’t keep clean itself. Underneath it all, your dog is just like a wolf – and so must you be!

Hearing Loss Treatments – Options Available to You

Hearing loss treatments vary depending on what is causing the condition. If you have a permanent condition one of the options available is to use aids. Some people associate this condition with aging but this is not always the case because there are various factors that can lead to the condition therefore it is essential for you to seek medical help. The condition can result in depression and loneliness especially among older people therefore it is important to deal with it as soon as possible. The options available do not restore your ears to the condition that they were in before the condition but they will improve the way you communicate both at home and in the workplace. It also helps to make your daily activities more enjoyable.

Some of the hearing loss treatments are used to treat the reversible form of this condition. These include the ones that are caused by medications, ear infections, injuries to the head or ears and too much ear wax.

If the condition is permanent and caused by aging or noise, you can get an aid to improve how you communicate. They are designed to make different sounds louder but they cannot restore hearing. Some of them are supposed to alert you if there is a noise that you are supposed to listen to. They let you know if the doorbell or telephone is ringing.

The condition can become worse if you are exposed to a lot of noise. If the problem becomes worse, you may ask your doctor to adjust the settings on your aid.

For severe conditions of this problem, you may need to have surgery done or get cochlear implants.

If you work in a place that has a lot of noise, it is important to make sure you have protective gear. This will protect you from the conditions that are related to too much exposure to noise. For those who work in this kind of environment, it is also advisable to get regular tests done on your ears. This is a good way of determining if you suffer from the condition. If the condition is detected early enough, it is easier to treat it. Recreational noises in bars and clubs can also be detrimental to your ears therefore they should be avoided.

Reconstruction and the Post Bellum South

Cunning connivance is the thought that comes to mind when uttering the phrase “conjure tales.” The word “conjure” itself is rich with meaning; it conveys the idea of a deliberate falsehood when someone conjures up a tall tale. Yet within the context of “Conjure Tales,” it likely takes on the meaning, “of or practicing folk magic; a conjure woman.” The oft-repeated phrase spoken by Julius, to “cunjuh wuk” likely seems to reference the latter of the two definitions, but takes on a myriad of meanings — possibly even a double entendre – as Julius refers to the work of conjurers such as Tenie or Primus, all the while conjuring up tall tales himself! These clever yet untrue tales, which are met with great delight by his employers, most often relay a message that is supposed to not only entertain, but serve as a warning (i.e., not to knock down the schoolhouse, or not to purchase the vineyard). It is usually learned quickly thereafter that there was another reason for these tales: Julius had other designs.

Though Julius’s warnings are ignored with respect to purchasing the plantation, his later screeds frequently result in decisions that are favorable to the African-American community: though the schoolhouse was supposedly haunted, and its wood not used to build their new kitchen, Julius nevertheless quickly used it for their temperance meetings, remarking that if there were a spirit within it, “no doubt the preaching would do it good.” What this emphasizes, as well, are the subtle yet powerful actions that were necessarily employed by African-Americans in the period of Reconstruction – and later the Jim Crow South. In order to transcend the intentional and repressive acts perpetrated by white Southerners who greatly resented their emancipation and suffrage, these recently freed men and women had to battle predatory credit practices, racist labor policies, and even murderous lynch mobs. Nothing short of cunning tactics and oftentimes a conjured up tale (or spell) were all that could be done.

From the outset of Reconstruction, formerly wealthy aristocrats, landholders and great planters of the South sought by means of artifice to deny the recently-freed slaves their right to vote, their say in a representative government, or the ability to own land. These impediments were levied in the form of the Black Codes; the rise of the Ku Klux Klan; and poll taxes or other sorts of extremely difficult reading tests meant to disenfranchise. Of course, these tests also had the unintended (or intended?) consequence of disenfranchising poor, undereducated white males as well. Not surprisingly, unique and clever means were devised by the freed African slaves to circumvent such repressive tactics. Their efforts notwithstanding, the Republican Congress also sought – often by overriding Johnson’s vetoes – to moderate these pernicious acts engaged in by the Southern leaders.

Interestingly enough, these tales also highlight a pervasive ignorance that can be seen not only in Julius’s superstitious stories, but in his speech as well. In reference to the often inane stories, John, who is white, stated frankly: “your people will never rise in the world until they throw off these childish superstitions and learn to live by the light of reason and common sense.” This is closely akin to the words of Booker T. Washington, who in reference to the freed slaves’ inability to lift themselves up from poverty and discrimination, said that “Blacks should, moreover, refine their speech, improve their dress, and adopt habits of thrift and personal cleanliness; they should, in short, adopt the standards of the white middle class.”

While any of these changes might have helped incrementally during the period of Reconstruction and the subsequent era of Jim Crow, it was more the pervasive ignorance of the white Southerners that perpetuated these injustices. Today, we have a rich and unique cultural heritage to draw from when reading tales such as these. Nevertheless, changing habits and dress to better “assimilate” into white culture would not bring true equality; it would not come until white males in power had the moxie to “conjure up” some fitting legislation in response to the 1960s civil rights movement. Only then were African-Americans truly able to reap the benefits of Mr. Lincoln’s efforts nearly a century earlier.

Creating a Winning Phone Call Conference

Starting the Meeting

  • Test the dial-in number and access password 10 minutes prior to start of meeting to ensure the phone call conference service is available and scheduled properly.
  • State your name first, before the business meeting begins.
  • Appoint someone other than moderator to take meeting minutes. Whoever   is  taking minutes should have their phone  muted  because the clicking of typing will  be  too distracting for others.
  • Have a prepared reference list of who is attending the conference call meeting.
  • Conduct a roll call so you know who is on your conference call.
  • Request that each participant use the “ Mute ” button on their local phone to reduce background noise problems. Instruct participants to only “Un-mute” when they need to speak.

During the Meeting

  • Do not put your phone on HOLD. This usually puts music into your conference and prevents others from continuing the meeting.
  • If no one in your room needs to speak, use the “ Mute ” button on the phone to prevent background noise from disrupting the meeting. When someone needs to speak, simply release the “ Mute “.

Concluding the Meeting

  • Make a last request for additional questions or concerns prior to ending the call.
  • Establish the day and time for your next phone call conference.
  • After closing the meeting and bidding farewell to your audience, be the last person to disconnect from the call.
  • Forward meeting minutes to the audience within 24 hours following the phone call conference.

Using the tips listed above, your next phone call conference can be a winner for all attending. Plan in advance, and take the time to ensure the conference number works just before the meeting. Be flexible and even humorous about small problems that make occur during the call. Your professionalism in handling such situations will be evident.

Speaking to a Diverse Audience

Any professional speaker will tell you that one of the most important rules of speaking is to know your audience. For most speakers, this means hours of preparation researching the company or organization to which they will present their material. Speakers know that by reading trade publications, in-house newsletters and promotional materials, they will learn the jargon that is the language of that company.

Real pros will also inquire about the audience members themselves. They will ascertain something about the corporate structure, the VIP’s, those employees who have won awards, etc. This gives a speaker an “insider’s edge” when he or she stands before what is otherwise a roomful of strangers. By the time the speaker takes the lectern, a great deal is known about the audience. However, there is one more piece of information that a speaker might not know but must take into consideration when preparing a talk: Are there any attendees with disabilities? Below are a few tips that will help you to make all of your talks more accessible and inclusive.

When planning the audience seating arrangements, ask if there is adequate access for wheelchair users. Provide an extra-wide aisle for wheelchairs to sit amongst the audience. Wheelchair users should not be forced to occupy the very back of the room, or the very front row, if they do not wish to.

If you are using written materials, make copies available in a twenty-four-point font size. This is a standard large print text size, and will enable most people with low vision to access your valuable talking points. If you are making a presentation using slides or video, make a point to read the text as you go, or provide a brief narrative of the content. This can be accomplished smoothly and with discretion, so as not to needlessly draw attention to any individual.

For attendees who are deaf or hearing impaired, allow for seats to be reserved up front if you are not using a microphone, or near speakers if using amplification. Ask your assistant, sergeant-at-arms or the facility set-up crew to help attendees identify these seats. Remember that if a sign-language interpreter will be needed, provide an extra seat.

If speaking at a function that does not involve a meal, try to arrange for some water and a snack, at least. If no food is available, provide some fruit, candy or even trail mix. This can help attendees get through a long program. Remember that audience members with diabetes or hypoglycemia require access to food. Besides, hungry attendees are inattentive attendees.

When incorporating humor in your presentations, think very carefully about the jokes you choose. If you obtain material from humor websites, use the humor from their “clean” section. When in doubt, don’t use it. If you want to make a joke about an executive or supervisor in the group, approach him or her privately and ask permission first. While this is a good trick to ingratiate you to the rank and file, it may backfire. You never want to risk ruining what may be a well-crafted image. Stay away from the big landmines. You know the ones – no jokes about race, religion or sexuality.

On the other hand, self-deprecating humor almost always works well. Don’t overdo it, though. You don’t want to come across as though you are a victim seeking sympathy. Sprinkle observational humor throughout your presentation, and restrict it to subjects, such as bizarre policies or ridiculous procedures, equipment snafus, or humorous storytelling, with a point as well as a punchline.

As our society becomes more diverse, so does our workplace and so must our speaking skills. Remember that it is unwise to make assumptions about any group. The specific nature of that diversity may not be apparent, but that does not mean a careless remark will not deeply affect or offend a member of the audience who may have friends or loved ones who are proud to belong to a group you just disparaged. No one will remember your silly jokes, but someone is likely to remember that you took the time to provide large print materials. Accommodating the needs of a diverse audience is an act of consideration and respect that can only enhance your professional reputation.

I Need Somebody Who Needs Me

Sometimes when I am travelling in different countries and sitting in an airport waiting for my flight to be called, I observe the variety of people passing by. They are all strangers to me: they represent various nationalities, cultures and speak different languages.

How could we possibly relate to each other? Of course we live on the same planet and we need to care about this planet. Also we are all human beings, despite all our differences; we need love and warmth for psychological health and well being from childhood.

But as I sit in an airport café waiting for my next connexion I feel tired and lonely. What do I do? Oh yes, thanks to modern technology I will phone my family on my cell phone. I know they are worried about me, especially my mother. I just need to hear her voice and feel her love and I will be alright.

I know my husband will be waiting for me on the other side of the world. It takes me long hours to see him. But I know he will be there despite any obstacles: snow, storm, or tropical rain. I am sure he will manage to arrive at the airport in time to meet me. I can rely on him totally. I just need to call him too to tell him my flight has been delayed and I hate it when I arrive late at my destination. He knows me so well and knows how I will feel about this inconvenience.

So, I see other strangers doing the same. They phone and talk to people who love them and care about them. Yes! This is the answer – our family, partners, children and friends. This is part of our happy life we belong to. This is part of our identity – a connection with people who need us and we need them.

We may rush through our whole life to strive and fuss to acquire material things: we must trade old items in for something newer and better. However, what do we need in reality?

To feel important for someone. To be the only one for whom you are the most precious person in this individual’s life. And when you find such love; you never would leave such a person. This is what you really need.

If we discovered that we had only five minutes left to say all that we wanted to say, every telephone booth would be occupied by people calling other people to   stammer  that they loved them. Christopher Morley

This is why we look for love, for partners and we create a family. We want to feel loved, warmth and care. We need somebody who needs us. Who understand us and make us feel we are very important to them.

I believe that two people are connected at the heart, and it doesn’t matter what you do, or who you are or where you live; there are no boundaries or barriers if two people are destined to be together. Julia Roberts

Coping With Children Communication Problems

Communication is the important part in human life. So, the communication problem should be handled soon when it is potential to bring any problems. Now, we will talk about the communication in children. We should remember that sometimes saying something will be difficult for them, thus paying the great attention to such matter is all parents need to do.

Dealing with communication problem on children, the parents should be the active party to do the observation. There are many children who have problems with their speech from an early age. In this article I am going to write about the speech impediment known as stuttering.

In this case, stuttering normally starts for people in childhood. Commonly, it will be simply called as a childhood stutter. Some people find that it is a very worrying time for parents and the child. Besides, it is difficult to know where to look for help. Actually, there are many different views and advice given to the parents.

You will see that some people will simply ignore the communication problem in children and let everything happened and find its own solution. While others will say that an early course of speech therapy will be the great solution to choose. The important thing is to remember that stuttering comes in many forms.

Even, family and friends may not even be aware that a person they know has a stuttering problem. In this case, the person who has the stutter may be a closet stutterer who is very good at hiding it. It is done by avoiding certain words or by finding alternative words. Anyway, such communication problem are normally happened when a person is either under pressure, very tired, meeting new people, speaking in an uncomfortable situation, and so on.

By considering a stuttering therapy, you can cope with such communication problem easily.

Bruxism Is One Of The Causes Of The TMJ Syndrome

When a friend of mine recently complained of experiencing agonizing pain in her jaw each time she opens her mouth, I thought I have heard of a similar case from my husband’s office co-worker with whom we had dinner not too long ago. It was during that dinner-meeting when I first heard about the TMJ syndrome (later I would know that TMJ means temporomandibular joints – jaw in layman’s language), what causes it, and how it’s treated. Sensing that the two cases are indeed of the same nature, I advised my friend to see a dentist immediately (that’s what my husband’s co-worker said he did the moment he felt he had the TMJ syndrome); she did.

True enough the dentist consulted by my friend confirmed she had the TMJ syndrome. A further check of her case revealed it was caused by her apparent habitual grinding or gnashing of her teeth. Many people exhibit this teeth-clenching tendency, called bruxism, which they do when they are asleep, or which they mindlessly do even while awake. Apart from its wearing down the teeth, bruxism also causes severe pain in the jaw.

Some people believe that bruxism is caused by stress. (Incidentally, stress is likewise known to have a role in the intensification of the problem caused by the TMJ syndrome.) They, therefore, conclude that the gnashing or clenching of the teeth is a means by which they can vent the anger or frustration inside them. A poor bite is also thought to be another cause of bruxism. This imperfect bite, or improper occlusion, is likewise believed to be one of the direct causes of the TMJ syndrome. In this condition, there is an abnormality in the coming together of the teeth. Specifically, the teeth do not work together as neatly or as exactly as they might.

Dentists usually recommend the use of a bite plate to help in preventing bruxism. This plastic dental aid is made from an impression of the patient’s mouth and is worn over the lower teeth when the patient goes to bed. While this mouthguard may help in breaking the teeth-gnashing habit, it will not be able to deal with its causes successfully.

The troubles associated with the TMJ syndrome are characterized by any, or all, of these symptoms: a sharp pain in the jaw; difficulty opening the mouth (as well as in keeping it open); a clicking sound when moving the jaw; and difficulty masticating. In most cases, too, there can be severe headache, dizziness, and sinus problem.

The TMJ syndrome may have more serious causes, as in the presence of fractures, tumor (either benign or malignant), or cyst. Neurological disorders are likewise possible causes. All these, of course, can be ruled out by X-rays. In treating the pain caused by the TMJ syndrome, dentists usually recommend certain relaxation exercises, massage, heat treatment, and a diet consisting only of soft foods for easy chewing.

It was many years ago when the TMJ syndrome was first studied and researches relating to it were conducted. Still, cases of the disorder appear to be on the rise, affecting men and women almost evenly. The good news is that there is an all natural method that can permanently eliminate your TMJ pain at the soonest possible time.

Are you being tortured by TMJ? If you’re at the end of your wits with your jaw pain, then discover an all natural method that permanently eliminates TMJ as soon as today. Visit The Natural TMJ Relief Program at Natural Relief Program for TMJ Pain.

Chron’s Disease

Crohn’s  disease  is often confused with other inflammatory bowel disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis, thus making it difficult to diagnose. Crohn’s  disease  can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus. Crohn’s  disease  is characterized by an inflammatory reaction throughout the entire thickness of the colon and bowel wall. This inflammation can penetrate deeply into the affected organ, causing pain and diarrhea.

Symptoms associated with Crohn’s  disease  include abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding (which may lead to anemia), weight loss, malabsorption syndrome and nutritional deficiencies. The onset of Crohn’s  disease  is typically between the ages of fourteen and thirty. Cases of this disorder tend to be 2-4 times more common in Caucasian whites than non-Caucasian, and 4 times more common in Jews than non-Jews.

Crohn’s  disease  is typically experienced as flair-up, with attacks occurring every few months to every few years. Over time, if the  disease  is active, bowel function can gradually deteriorate, with the risk of cancer increasing by 20 fold.

Scientists believe that chronic imbalances in the intestinal flora set off a chain of events that, in the end, damages the intestinal mucosa. This theory is strongly supported by the parallel in the number of cases of Crohn’s and other inflammatory bowel disorders and use of antibiotics over the last 50 years. In turn, it has also been found that the incidence of Crohn’s  disease  is higher in cultures consuming a “western diet”, while it is virtually non-existent in cultures consuming a more primitive diet. Studies also reveal that patients with Crohn’s  disease  were found to be individuals who habitually ate, prior to the onset of symptoms, more refined sugar, less raw fruits, vegetables and dietary fiber when compared to their healthy counterparts.

While the exact causes of Crohn’s  disease  is still unclear, there is much that can be done to lessen symptoms and even put this disorder into remission. The goal for treatment of this disorder is to control inflammation, correct nutritional deficiencies and relieve symptoms such as pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding.

Recommendations for Wellness

1) An elimination diet, such as Gottschall’s Specific Carbohydrate Diet have been shown to reduce the symptoms experienced within 3 – 12 weeks.

2) Avoid sugar, both white sugars, and the sugars contained in white flower, white rice etc.

3) Keep a food/flair-up journal. Identify foods you are eating, or your emotional state just before and during a “flair-up”. In time, you may find a pattern forming

4) To reduce intestinal inflammation and begin the healing process, try products such as UltraInflamx – by Metagenics, Robert’s formula – by Phytophamric, or aloe vera juice.

5) Flax seed or fish oils (Omega 3 Oils) have been known to greatly reduce the inflammatory process. If you find you have a hard time digesting them, try freezing the gel caps before taking them.

6) Extra vitamins and minerals are important at this time, especially if you are not absorbing nutrients correctly. Incorporate a liquid meal replacement (one that is loaded with vitamins, minerals and protein, and low on sugar!) into your diet as well as taking a high quality vitamin and minerals supplement. Try to find one that is in a gel casing or capsule.

7) Find a good mineral supplement such as Alfalfa, barley greens, liquid chlorophyll or colloidal minerals. Many of these come in a powdered form that you can mix with water or juice.

8) Because of blood loss due to rectal bleeding, and the anemia associated with it, incorporation of additional iron is important. Look to find an herbal iron alternative, especially one that comes in liquid form for better/easier assimilation. If you decide to look to a single herb, Yellow Dock would be my choice. (Consult with your health care provider before introducing additional iron into your diet.)

9) Starting a program of re-inoculating the intestinal tract with Friendly Bacteria, namely lactoacidopholis can enhance recovery and restore bowel function to normal.

Social Health

Social health, along with mental and physical health, is one of the key aspects to determine the general well-being of a person. The importance of social health has not been a big focus when people talk about health. However, experts say that the social well-being of an individual is just as important. Social health refers to the ability of an individual to thrive in the society and interact with other people, a form of mental health. This incorporates different elements of a person’s character, personality and social skills. A healthy person should be able to function in society and reflect social norms. Social health could also refer to the general health of society, taking into consideration how people behave and treat one another. A healthy society is also a requirement for a person to function socially. Is Laser Acne Treatment Permanent?

One of the first questions people ask about when considering laser acne treatment is how effective the procedure is. After a series of treatments, usually removes about 90 percent of the active acne.

Laser acne treatment typically involves several sessions over a few months. Usually, the more sessions you undergo, the more effective your procedure will be at removing acne and keeping it away. Although you may see results immediately following your very first session, it may take several treatment sessions to produce visible results.

How long the effects of laser treatment for acne will last depends on your individual situation. If the main causes of your skin complaint are those treated by the lasers (including skin bacteria and oil production), the results will be better than if your problem is mainly caused by other factors, like genetics or hormones. Before undergoing laser acne treatment, there is no way to tell exactly how much effect it will have on your spots. However, your dermatologist can provide some insight. At your consultation visit with your dermatologist, he or she should evaluate your skin and its condition to determine whether laser treatments for acne would be effective.

The results of laser acne treatment are not permanent, but they are long-lasting. Most patients find that their outbreaks are reduced for up to two years, with no flare-ups or breakouts for about the first six months after their last treatment session. If you want the results of laser treatments to last, it’s important to continue caring for your skin properly after the procedure. Treatment with lasers does not excuse you from caring for your skin; if you do not care for your skin correctly, you can expect your spots to return faster.

For some people, laser acne treatment can have less drastic results than expected. To avoid this, choose the most experienced dermatologist you can find. Make sure that your dermatologist is fully trained in using lasers, because they have many sophisticated settings that must be adjusted correctly in order to give you the best possible results. The results also depend on the type of lasers being used; some have more lasting results than others.

When considering laser acne treatment, make sure that you remember it is not a permanent solution, and it will not cure your skin condition forever. You may wish to go back for a follow-up session several years following your initial treatment series, if your spots begin to return. Despite this, laser treatments for acne are usually much more effective than using messy creams or other treatment methods. If you are tired of dealing with your acne on an everyday basis, consider laser acne treatments for long-lasting results. Despite the chance of eventual flare-ups, laser treatments are still one of the most effective ways currently available to fight your acne.
